5-0 out of 5 stars Enough songs so as not to completely drive a parent crazy
My nearly 3-year-old son did not appreciate this CD until he was about 2 1/2. Before that, I could listen to whatever I wanted. But now, it seems to ground my son, and reassure him. He asks for his music, and will not get out of the car until a song is over. The songs, often accompanied by children, are actually fun to listen to, and fun to be, well, fun with. My 1-year-old daughter remains unphased by anything except classical music.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son LOVES this CD!
He will only listen to this CD despite the other 3 in my CD holder in the car.My only complaint is that I am so tired of listening to it!!LOL

5-0 out of 5 stars happy and fun
my kids love the songs very much. it's nice to have children voice singing in the background too. My little one tries to sing along with the children voice. she is 2 years old. My first child (4) she knows most of the songs and she love it a lot. ... Read more

Editorial Review

For centuries the world over, mothers (and fathers) have been cradling, cooing, and crooning to babies and small children with song. There's scarcely a one of us that cannot recall a particularly gentle song a special someone sang for a wee self--to calm, soothe, and aid slumber. This tender music is to the soul what mother's milk is to the body, and we call it the lullaby. Rooted in age-old tradition, Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars More than a Lullaby CD
I recently went through at home hospice care with a loved one. We listened to this album over and over through that trying time.He died with it playing. The mood of the music was very healing and spiritual.I listen to it now and remember him. These songs and artists help heal grief, not just soothe temporary restlessness."All the Pretty Little Horses" is my favorite but the entire album is quite beautiful.I highly recommend it for grief work as well as bedtime.

5-0 out of 5 stars Baby falls asleep by 5th song!
Beautiful and calming music for babies to sleep by!Our son is 3 1/2 months old and has been listening to this CD as he goes to sleep for a month now. He's eyes start to close by the 2nd song and tends to be firmly asleep by the 5th. The spanish song gets a tad louder than everything else, but it never seems to disturb him.

5-0 out of 5 stars Who Needs a Baby to Enjoy This Music?
I've enjoyed this cd for several years now. If the day has been particularly stressful, I find it easy to unwind by listening to this beautiful and restful music. The selected lullabies reflect ethnic diversity beginning with the haunting "Swedish Lullaby" by Libiana, to the Spanish "A La Nanita Nana" by Tish Hinojosa, to the African "Be Still My Child" by Ladysmith Black Mambazo. It's comforting to realize that in every culture in our too aggressive, troubled world, caring parents soothe their children to sleep with beautiful music. All of these songs are found on individual albums but are seamlessly brought together in this thoughtful compilation. There are a lot of lullaby cds to choose from, but this one will entertain adults as well as babies. I recently ordered it again to include in a baby shower gift. Exhausted new parents need rest too! ... Read more

Dust off your blue suede shoes and polish up the tail fins on the Chevy: this album transports listeners back to the 1950s and early 1960s with all-time classic rock & roll. Children will love the strong rhythms, (sometimes) silly words, and easy-to-follow vocals. Adults will enjoy the cruise down memory lane with megahits like "Rock Around the Clock," "Willie & the Hand Jive," "Rockin' Robin," and "Name Game." Retaining all the spunk and sparkle they did when rock was young, these digitally remastered tunes are ready to inspire a whole new generation of little boppers. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Kids and adults will love this
A lot of the classic Rock and Roll songs of the late 1950s-early 1960s on this album. This is a great album to introduce to young kids and adults who love classic rock and roll songs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Toddlers Love Rock 'n' Roll
I purchased this CD for my 18 month old twins who absolutely just love it!It's great music for family gatherings because the old and young alike can enjoy singing and dancing along to it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun with the kids
Our two year old loves dancing and singing along to these 50's classic rock n' roll songs. These songs are the pure essence of the fun music can be.Yes, they are nonsensical. But that is the fun of it for the child. They are performed by the original artists. No cheesy dubbed kids vocals like other cd's we've purchased. This has been a treasured find for our family. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great collection of songs for Halloween
I have to add my 2 cents for the scariness of this cd. My 6 year old picked this out and we listened to it in the car on a long road trip. When the cd started my almost 4 year old covered her ears and started whimpering that it scared her.I told her "they were just being silly" so that my 6 year old could still listen to her cd.The 4 year old kept her ears covered for 4 songs all while I was trying to help her see how they were acting scary to be silly. After she had listened to the whole cd once she was not longer scared of it - and in fact now has most of the shorter songs memorized and constantly walks around the house singing "I'm a mean old witch with my hat... Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha".I'm glad I persevered and helped her overcome her fear so we now as a family have a blast singing Halloween songs together throughout the day.Now if you want to avoid any of this whimpering then definitely keep this cd for at least 5 year olds.My 6 year old wasn't scared of the cd at all and she loved how several of the songs have big "Boo"s at the end and other lightly suspensful moments.

5-0 out of 5 stars My child loves this CD!
I bought this CD for my son who was 4 at the time and he loves it!We listened to it all year long.Even as a parent I enjoy this CD and find myself sometimes listening to it when I'm in the car alone. My child didn't think it was too scary.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome musicianship, NOT too sweet or unvaried
I almost didn't buy this because of the comments about Tina's voice being too sweet and the songs sounding the same.A sweet soprano could sound irritating if not well trained and sensitive to the music. This is NOT the case with Ms. Malia. She breathes new life into old stand-bys like Rockaby Baby, which I didn't expect to want to hear twice. She uses her voice as an instrument and works to create subtle and enchanting effects with the accompaniment - particularly striking are the pennywhistle and the sax. And as for the songs, the arrangements are wonderfully varied. It's SO much better than the Disney lullaby cd I also bought, on which so many of the songs are so synth-saturated that even with different singers they do sound the same.
2-0 out of 5 stars Sticky Sweet
Not my favorite.Tina Malia's voice is a little too sticky sweet for my taste, and every song sounds alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Collection of Music.
A CHILD'S CELEBRATION OF DANCE MUSIC is a wonderful collection of music put out by the Music for Little People label. There aren't very many people familiar with the albums released by Music for Little People, but thier label produces some of the best collections of popular music suitable for families that I have ever come across. Most of their albums are centered around a theme or type of music (Country, Rock and Roll, etc.) and it's all good stuff sung by the original artists. No Britney Spears or boy band songs here. Instead, songs that at one time were fairly popular, but that are now somewhat obscure are brought together with a few better known hits. This collection includes songs that are fun to dance to.Some of my favorites include:

5-0 out of 5 stars We Love It!!
I put this on my 19month old daughter's Wish List for Christmas and we just listened to it today. She loved the animal sounds in the beginning and danced to some of the music. It's not something she'll sit down and just listen to as a storytime yet, but I think it will be a timeless addition to our CD collection. As an adult, I enjoyed listening to the stories and the music.A good buy for younger and older children as the music is very rythymic, but not too loud (I think my daughter would have liked it as an infant).

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful for our 2-yr-old
This album is a great hit with our toddler. Many, many nights she requests to listen to this CD as she goes to sleep. The rhythms are wonderful for young ears, she loves to sing the choruses with the children on the recording............it tickles me to see my daughter respond so positively to lyrics in a language foreign to her.

5-0 out of 5 stars no skip overs
being the mother of 8 children it is hard to please everyone (ages 18 to newborn)in the car at the same time.this cd is one of the few cds we have that we do not skip over songs.we love this cd.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a wonderful CD to give as a present!
I love giving this cd as a gift, to teachers or childcare providers, or new moms. It's kids' music you can stand to hear over and over (and some of us know just how rare that is), and feel good about exposing kids totraditions and musical concepts they might not otherwise encounter.Welisten to the numbers songs in the car, we sing the shoo-fly song when wego walking--it's been a gift to my little family to have these songs addedto our lives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet Honey in the Rock is Fantastic!
Although folk isn't a style a music much heard by anyone but its devotees, there can be some real treasures in this section. Sweet Honey in the Rock is one of them. As a young teenager, I find that this music doesn't fitinto the "fuddy-duddy" image that young people today think of asFolk. Sweet Honey provides you with cool, soulful tunes, with beat and fireto spare. Try listening to "Young and Positive", and see if thatdoesn't bolster your self-esteem. The complex harmonies appeal to meespecially, since I am a singer, but to the uninitiated ear, they are pureecstasy. This is a rare and amazing gem in the soup of today's music! ... Read more

This is a family album in the truest sense. With entertainers like Burl Ives, Danny Kaye, Pete Seeger, Loggins & Messina, Taj Mahal, and James Taylor performing some of their best-loved kids' titles, adults and children can share in the joy and fun of this multigenerational collection. Be it quacking with "The Ugly Duckling," singing along with folksy "This Old Man," bopping to the calypso beat of "The Banana Boat Song," or daydreaming to "House on Pooh Corner," every member of the family will find a favorite in this compilation of songs by the original artists. 5-0 out of 5 stars A "Must Have" CD for all children
if you are looking for a CD with more than "a couple good songs" this CD is for you.A mellow CD with classics such as "Baby Beluga" and "House at Pooh Corner."You will not be sorry when you purchase this CD for your music-loving child.Great for toddlers and preschoolers!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great CD for kids and adults!
You won't regret buying this CD. It has so many great songs by great artists, that "Over the Rainbow" is one of the worst -- and that's really saying something. My favorites are "Jelly Man Kelly," "Baby Beluga" and "Skip to My Lou." I hate cheesy children's music -- but there's none of that here! You'll be humming along with your kids.

4-0 out of 5 stars A hit with my 2 year old
My son LOVES this CD, along with Toddler Favorites, also by Music for Little People. Every single time we get into the car, he wants to listen to "Twinkle" (what he calls both of the CD's). I think it's a pretty enjoyable listen, and I don't really mind hearing it over and over and over...The tunes are quite catchy. I especially like the tone of boy(?)'s voice who sings "London Bridge is Falling Down", "Old Roger", and a few others. At first I thought it was a female singing, but there is a certain quality to the singer's voice that convinced me it was a pre-pubescent boy. Good choice.

4-0 out of 5 stars Kid Friendly
My daughter loves this CD.Almost every song is a pleaser and has her saying "more, more."It's a little sing-songy but well worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's a Hit!
I stumbled upon this CD in our local library for my 2 going on 3 year old daughter. She immediately fell in love with this CD! And I was not annoyed by the grown up singers or the children. (let's face it, most children's CDs can grate your nerves after a while). We took it with us for a road trip and she listened to it on her big brother's CD player. Talk about a quiet ride!! Who needs a DVD player in the truck?! We also used it as the background music at her third birthday party. It was a bonafide hit! All the kids loved it and all the mothers kept asking, "Where did you get this CD? It's great!" I'm buying two copies! ... Read more

What could possibly be cooler than hipping kids to some of the best pop music ever made? Music for Little People makes this project simple by producing a batch of the Beatles' sunniest songs performed by a prime adult band and your children's peers and slightly reworked in kid-friendly keys. The result is largely devoid of over-the-top cutesy-poo histrionics--these kids can really sing and the harmonies are quite commendable. Young listeners will be thrilled to sing along on the bouncy chorus of "Life Goes On," to count and do the alphabet on "All Together Now," and to distinguish the amusing sounds of a penny whistle, mandolin, and zither. Both Raffi and blues artist Eric Bibb make guest appearances, but the shining star at this party is child singer Bernie Steinberg, who takes lead on three tunes, including the touchingly performed "Mother Nature's Son" and the amazingly soulful "Birthday." 5-0 out of 5 stars Fun version for kids
Who can sing Beatles songs better than the Beatles? No one, of course! But it sure beats Barney!Or, at least it's a nice change from many kids'albums.I play regular Beatles' music for my kids too.But they also like this album a whole lot.Another reviewer said that children like to hear children singing and this is definitely true in our case.I think it's well done and I base much of my choices in childrens' music on what I can stand to hear repeatedly in the car.So this one definitey qualifies for that standard.I'd highly recommend it.

1-0 out of 5 stars lame
Birthday is as lame as it gets, except for the version on Bugs Bunny & Friends: Sing The Beatles. The better version is on White Album: disc 2

4-0 out of 5 stars The kids love it...and I like it too.
My two kids love it --- my daughter since she was 1 and my son since he was 3 - and we've had it for about 6 months now. Ok not all the songs are so great and yes the Beatles sing it better then a bunch of kids do (but kids like hearing kids singing) and every once and a while I try to skip something but my son usually stops me and says "No, I want to hear the ...whatever... song. " They especially love ObLaDi, Octopus's Garden, Yellow Submarine, Birthday and All Together Now. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the real thing
I grew up in Watson, Louisiana and can remember sitting on my daddy's knee while he sang the crawfish song and cotton fields to me. Then, in college, my friends and I went to the zydeco festivals to listen to the squeeze box of Buckwheat and eat pork chop sandwiches. How wonderful it is for me that Buckwheat decided to cut a record with two of my all-time favorite children's songs. The sound is authentic. The lyrics are fun for my child and me; I've been singing the cotton fields song in the shower all my life. I recommend this record for parents who have an interest in the Louisiana music of old. It really is fun to hear... again and again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Too much hype
After reading the reviews for this, I was soo excited to receive the cd.While I liked the idea of having narration introducing children to the music and the different instruments, I found the recordings themselves to be surprisingly flat.Where's the fun and excitement?? This is zydeco! This is zydeco for CHILDREN!The music and vocals didn't come from the heart, I felt no life in the recording.Even the Sesame Street zydeco song was better than this.My class (2 1/2 to 5 y/o) was not dancing around the room to it, either.

5-0 out of 5 stars AI-EEEEEE!
Absolutly my children's all-time favorite CD for the car! Children under three may be a bit young to appreciate it, but once they get to "sing-a-long" age they'll be hooked. My kids were three and five when we got it, and that was just about right.Though now getting to the "cool" ages of 10 and 12, they still pull this one out occasionally. The theme of the album is a musical journey through buyou country, MC'ed by the conductor of the "Zydeco Express."Between tracks he talks about the music and the songs. Some reviewers have felt that their children didn't like or appreciate this part, but I believe they soak in more of it than we realize, as evidenced by my kids' recall of some of details years later. It's a great introduction to a fun genre of music. ... I give this 4 1/2 stars, so I will round up. It's better than most children's music CD's.4-0 out of 5 stars Imaginative and unique
This album is different from the other children's albums our family owns, and it inspires the imagination. The songs are grouped in themes and have an authentic sound, with high production value.3-0 out of 5 stars Not our favorite
I bought this tape for my daughter, who is 23 months old. I purchased Toddler Favorites and one of the Disney classics at the same time. She prefers the Toddler Favorites to all the others. This tape (Children's Favorites) has an odd musical selection. Some of the songs are unfamiliar and rather outdated. I think we were looking for something a bit more cutesy and upbeat. Still, we do listen to it and a couple of the songs are cute. ... Read more

This is wonderful stuff, though I share some of the concerns below about the lyrics.Take "there may be lobsters on some of you mobsters"--that's just not logical. And it you said that to a mobster, he'd ice you, so you shouldn't teach your kids to say things like that.Otherwise, though, this is great.

5-0 out of 5 stars you'll love it too
My 3 y.o. loved it.The music is upbeat and fun, and you'll crack your kid up when you sing your own version of Ridin' in My Car.And Their Ain't No Bugs on Me is a great song.I don't know about your kid, but mine can handle a lyric like "How in the hell can the old folks tell ..." especially when sung so cheerfully and, um, innocuously.Mostly, it's a cd that you yourself will enjoy listening to ... even (believe it or not) the supplied version of Skip to My Lou.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Child's Celebration of Folk Music/Various Artists
Loved it except for the "Ain't no bugs on me" song. It uses the phrase "how in the (hell) can the old folks tell" In my opinion, that is not appropriate for young children. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Your best shot for easing fussiness!
These songs are great for helping to calm a fussy baby. I used both volumes with my newborns (even before they were born to get them familiar with the songs). In combination with other methods (bathing, rocking, massaging, removing stimuli, etc.), it is just another way to help soothe your baby. I found the songs soothing for me as well. They are very monotone, slow, and rythmic. The heartbeat sound carries through all the songs and even plays through the song transitions. If nothing else, it is a good "sleepy-time" routine for your baby to cue in that it is time to sleep. I LOVE to give this set for baby shower gifts!

5-0 out of 5 stars love it
I bought this when my daughter was one and still not sleeping through the night. This CD was a blessing. We put it on when she went to sleep and hit the button so it would play all night. As long as it was playing, she would sleep all night. On those nights we forgot to have it play over and over, she woke up.I just bought this as a gift for my sister in law, as they are expecting their first in a few weeks.I sure wish I had this long before my daughter turned one.But thankful for the sleep it gave me finally.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Celebration of Broadway
It's not just for kids!Originally checked this out from the library. My kids were THRILLED when I actually purchased it.It makes me realize why I love musicals -- they're usually upbeat and happy and everything works out in the end.I wish there were more of them out there to be enjoyed.

we love to wake up to this one. it has doowop/acapella versions of some classic children's songs.
5-0 out of 5 stars I'm So Glad!
"I'm So Glad" is one of many catchy tunes on The Goodship Lollipop. This tune is catching on around the country thanks to Noggin & Jack's Big Music Show. Jerry Lawson, former lead singer of the Persuasions debuts his new group "Jerry Lawson & Talk of The Town" on this wonderful new kid's show. You can learn more about this fabulous a cappella group at www.jerrylawson.biz -They've got lots more music geared for folks of all ages. Not to be missed!

5-0 out of 5 stars Eureka!the coolest song in rotation on Noggin today (I'm So Glad)
After much unsuccessful searching for anything by "Jerry Lawson & The Talk of the Town" as they're credited by Noggin (and Noggin's failure to respond to my emails) in order to find "I'm So Glad" -- a song my son ADORES -- I finally stumbled onto the Persuasions.I don't know if it's a different group of a capella singers accompanying Lawson from the singers in the Noggin video, but the song is the same and sounds terrific.

French is probably the only language in the world that can make the most trivial idea sound grandiloquent. Imagine what it can do when the poetic Romance language is set to children's songs. It entertains and educates, Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Okay, but not that good.
This CD is okay for parents who want to teach their children French. But Jean Rene's voice sounds like that of Chuck E Cheese. Mr. Rene probably dressed up in the costume to record this album, so I am not a fan of it. I do not recommend this album to parents who do not like taking their kids to Chuck E Cheese's.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tried Many - this is one of the best
I took French immersion in school for a few years and have fortunately retained some of it.I wanted my kids to have some base in other languages in case they ever wanted to pursue such learning.Besides - most of the world speaks several languages! Kid's songs seemed like a natural way to start to do it.I tried several CD's, and this one is by far the best. The kids immediately recognized songs they knew in English, and began to learn the French words as well. The voices are very good, the kids especially. It is very engaging to my kids when they hear the other kids sing.
2-0 out of 5 stars another disappointment!
Ugh! If you want to buy this to help your children learn French, be forwarned that there is VERY LITTLE French on this album. The female vocalist's voice isn't all that lovely and there is way too much English sung and spoken (and I can't quite understand why -- there doesn't seem to be much logic to when and why it's spoken).Sure, wheels on the bus is cute and fun, but it's mainly in English. What's the point?? ... Despite American schools' penchant for introducing foreign language at the middle-school level, research continues to prove that the earlier a child is exposed to a second language, the more likely she/he is to become bilingual. Based upon this tenet, in addition to Music for Little People's strong commitment to multicultural edu-tainment for children, the label has issued Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Lovely voices, nice CD, but...
Generally speaking, I like this CD, and my children enjoy it: the singer's voice is lovely, the idea is nice, but I am not too happy about a couple of things:
5-0 out of 5 stars My kids love it! (and me too)
I bought this music CD for my first child over 5 years ago. 2 more kids later I am buying it again. It has well-known songs in both English and Spanish languages. As a Spanish-speaking mother of three little kids ages 6, 3 and 1 I am very content with the way they translated the songs for the little ears. Despite the fact that my kids speak very well both languages, they love to hear the translation of frequently used words and I enjoy listening to the Spanish songs translated into English. It is absolutely a well spent money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Had it for years and love it!
Lost my original copy on a road trip and ordered another. We can't live without this. Our kids are bilingual and the mixing of the spanish and English in the songs has not been a problem. They know the words without turning off one language to hear another. A true bilingual is not translating in the brain...but is associating in both languages. Arroz is the white granules we eat and so is rice. There is no confusion for our 2 daughters and 6 niece and nephews who listen to these songs (and ALL are bilingual). This is a fun CD and very helpful! ... Read more
