Absolutely the BEST Lullaby CD
I bought this CD before our son was born and played it to him in the womb. He is now 18 months old and expects his CD to be started at naptime and bedtime without fail! We even have to pack it when we travel to visit Grandparents out of state! This is an incredibly soothing CD, even if I still haven't learned all of the words! Highly recommended for every parent!

Not the usual lullabies.
This is a wonderful lullaby collection that is also a change of pace.Thesongs are not the standards to which you probably know all thewords...there are even a couple of beautiful foreign-language songs.Thevocals are also different -- not the usual soprano, but a richer, lowertone.I often play this CD when rocking my baby to sleep and it's a nicechange from my other favorite (Beautiful Dreamer by the Dreamsisters). ... Best Lullaby CD!
All my kids have listened to this CD before bed each night. It's one of the few lalluby CD's which actually calms them to sleep.

Perfect for bedtime
I love this CD and have ordered several copies over the yearsto give to prospective parents.As a professional singer/musician, I appreciate the high quality of this music. The songs are lovely and do not get old after listening to it several times.(Which is what many new parents do when trying to put a baby to sleep!)Also, a book is available with the texts for those of you who want to sing along.

Baby's Bedtime

Thank You Shushybye Band!

Essential Black music, real folk music, for all musicianers
I have heard some of these recordings, particularly"Knock John Booker (To The Low Ground)" for more than 40 years. This is the real thing, the core of Black traditional music. Too much is focused on the blues which sprang out of this kind of music and other traditions at the turn of the century. I came to this music in part out of my own leading participation in the current revival of Black string band music, especially fiddling and banjo.
the amazing and sublimeVera Ward Hall
this is probably the finest in the Deep River of Song series because it features so much of Vera Hall's singing. she is a truly wondeful, amazing, sublimely talented singer. as beloved as she is she herself has not had a cd released in her name, this cd being the easiest way to get a large amount of her songs. many of these songs are lullabies and secular songs. there are more recordings of Vera Hall Ward
Yes, Vera Hall Ward is a great singer, but these recordings made by John & Ruby Lomax 1937-1940, should have been cleaned-up more (pops were eliminated but not crackle & other constant backgroung noise). There are much cleaner recordings of her (perhaps in a later decade) on:Read more

Traditional heritage honored by elegant performance
With the voice of an angel, Miss Zindarsian pays homage to her family and her Armenian heritage with this collection of seductive melodies. As a non-Armenian, and someone who enjoys owning very few recordings of soprano voice, I was caught off guard by the beauty of these songs, and even more so by the way she sculpts the melodic lines and lyrical phrases into an end result that is nothing short of captivating. The Armenian language is not as inherently musical as Latin or Italian, but in these recordings, the artist weaves the words in a delicate and graceful manner, enabling the audience to quite literally feel the authors' (including members of the Zindarsian family) love of their heritage, faith, and family. Excellent Jim Henson performance!
This album has a wonderful range of songs, all sung by Jim Henson (as Rowlf the Dog) with only piano accompaniment by Derek Scott (as Rowlf, also). For upbeat, silly fun there is "Lydia the Tattooed Lady". For gentleness there is the A.A. Milne favorite, "Halfway Down the Stairs" and "Wishing Song" which was performed by Gonzo on the Muppet Show. The one that really blows me away is the version of Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind". It's both gritty and wistful and worth tracking down. Great for kids and adults and especially for any Jim Henson fan. ... Read more

When I first heard this CD,I immediately loved it. The vocal artists andthe musical selections are wonderful.I especially enjoy Taj Mahal'srendition of "The Little Brown Dog" and Lena Horne singing"Summertime".My four year old daughter loves the song entitled"Good Night"by The Roches.It is a delightful story about ayoung girl captured by an invisible monster. My 5 year old recovering co sleeper zonks out immediately
My daughter, who is 5 and a half and has always shared a family bed until recently has always had trouble falling asleep on her own. This cd, along with some clever aromatherapy, causes her to fall asleep immediately on her own without the 20 trips out of bed for drinks of water, hugs, bathroom trips, ect.This cd is AMAZING. I feel truly lucky to have stumbled upon it.

I bought this album without knowing much about it.I hadn't heard any of the tracks, and only had one review to go by.I'm so glad I listened to the reviewer, because this album is wonderful.Mary van Arsdel has such a beautiful voice, and these songs are obviously chosen and sung with great love.

Beautiful!
I don't know why this album hasn't been reviewed/isn't linkedwith other international lullaby collections. We received several as gifts for our first baby and this collection is by far our favorite. Not a clunker in the lot, unlike many collections. Each song is unique, but the compilation flows incredibly well.

It is wonderful to dance with your kids
It is a great CD I recommend to any parent who would like to see their kids jumping, dancing and singing along with her. We love it, and play the CD almost every night to let our kids jump up and down with a lot of laugh and smile in their faces. It is a lot more fun and involving than putting them infront of the tube.

Preschool teacher loves this cd!
Marcy Marxer's songs and voice are lovely, easy to listen to over and over.I love her rendition of If You're Happy, it is so melodic.Beautiful Day often brings tears to my eyes it is so pretty and sweet.Ibought the cd on a whim at a trade conference because she was there signingthem - boy am I glad I did!It's one of my favorites now and I have a*bunch* of children's music.As a teacher I think I've heard it all!Ihighly recommend it for teachers of infants, toddlers and preschoolers aswell as parents.Check it out! ...
