5-0 out of 5 stars Great album
We like the album a great deal. It wasn't a big hit at first, but the songs grew on us. Our baby likes to bounce to the hippity hop song and others. It is a mix of classics (Mahna Mahna and Rainbows) and some new ones. A good variety.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best kids tape out there!
When I was pg I was searching for good music that could grow with the baby. This CD had excellent reviews so I took the risk and am so thankful I did.
3-0 out of 5 stars It's ok
I bought this cd mainly because I saw the Bare Naked Ladies as one of the artists on here...My kids and I listen to tracks 1 and 2 and after that they're not that interested. Some of the songs are just a little boring. It's ok for the price, but definetly not our favorite. ... Read more

Tasha is the Princess lover Miss Editor person and I'll have you know that I love listening and watching the Backyardigans. They are very entertaining and the music is very diverse and fun.. Maybe she should just needs give another listen..

5-0 out of 5 stars More than tolerable...ENJOYABLE!
Ok, whoever wrote that editorial review doesn't know the first thing about The Backyardigans (Uniqua singing I Love Being a Princess?).And anyone who doesn't know The Backyardigans should NOT be writing an editorial review of this product! This CD epitomizes the fun, creativity and innovation of the TV show.
5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
My kidshave been huge fans of the show for a quite while now.It is so much fun to hear them learn the lyrics and dance to the different rhythms.Definitely a big hit for the whole family.I personally love this CD and enjoy watching the show too so this CD is great for the parents to enjoy with the children."Shake your body", "Eureka", "Super heros..." are their favorites, but as they listen to the CD, the favorite lists grows and grows...very catchy. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars not very satisfied
I got Vol 1 and Vol 2. But my daughter doesn't like them. She prefers children singing. So it is not a successful purchase for us. I also agree with some other customers that one person singing all the songs is a little boring.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good songs
Songs are great. it's a little slow for my kids. They loves the the beats. But they still love to listen to this CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son LOVES it & I don't get a headache!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Is this somthing that I would listen to everyday? No.
.....But It's genius is in the fact that this can be played in a children's room to help them sleep as it is quite soothing and infantile in typical lullaby fashion. but best of all you can stay in the room with your child and not have the urge to blow your brains out to a crappy predictable lullaby from the 'Play-school company over and over and over again. I can listen to this and enjoy it many time's. Get it if you are also ready to choke the stuffing out of mickey and Disney Babies: Lullaby and the such. I have also noticed that there are lullaby versions of Nirvana and Coldplay which I will also be getting. now if they will just release that Motörhead lullaby I'll be set!

5-0 out of 5 stars ...This is the coolest thing ever.
So, I'm obviously not an infant, but I have to say- I LOVE THIS CD. It's complete genius. I love Radiohead, and these lullaby renditions of their songs are very soothing and sweet-sounding. I like falling asleep listening to music, and this CD definitely does the trick.
5-0 out of 5 stars the thing i hate about radiohead
you know what I hate about radiohead? you know what i cant stand about the fact that they all know they're a bunch of frigging geniuses and their musical talents are completely unmatched by any other mainstream artist? you know what i hate about the fact that radiohead is probably one of the single most important contributions to the modern rock world that we will ever see? you know what i hate about the fact that radiohead has been voted most likely to find the cure for cancer? the thing I hate most about radiohead is that i love them some much that one day I may actually BUY this CD and I will ENJOY THE HELL OUT OF IT. No questions asked. if radiohead is involved, it is not a waste of your money. god help us all. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Enough songs so as not to completely drive a parent crazy
My nearly 3-year-old son did not appreciate this CD until he was about 2 1/2. Before that, I could listen to whatever I wanted. But now, it seems to ground my son, and reassure him. He asks for his music, and will not get out of the car until a song is over. The songs, often accompanied by children, are actually fun to listen to, and fun to be, well, fun with. My 1-year-old daughter remains unphased by anything except classical music.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son LOVES this CD!
He will only listen to this CD despite the other 3 in my CD holder in the car.My only complaint is that I am so tired of listening to it!!LOL

5-0 out of 5 stars happy and fun

5-0 out of 5 stars My toddler asks to listen to it over and over.
I bought this collection for my daughter when she was about a year old.I didn't care too much for the songs myself at the time but I wasn't really wanting to listen to children's music in the first place.I am really glad that I bought it.My daughter is now almost 2 and she asks to listen to "the music" everyday. She will play in her room by herself for about an hour while I have these CD's playing and when we are away from home or doing something else, she will often start singing some of the songs by heart. It has really helped with her vocabulary and I am amazed at how many of the songs she can remember. Some reviewers don't like the children singing on this CD but my daughter loves it.I also like that there are 4 CD's.If I get tired of playing one, I will just put in a different one.As long as my child loves it,I'm happy too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun for my toddler
This CD combines professional singing with children participating, which fascinates my toddler. It's very useful to hear the youngsters' voices alongside the adults'.

2-0 out of 5 stars I'd rather watch Bugs Bunny cartoons
I borrowed this disc from a co-worker.Initially, IO was interested in this disc because it seemed like it could be a very clever way to introduce classical music to children.I tried to like it, but I found the singers very cloying and saccharine sweet. The lyrics created for the music were very ricky-ticky and not very creative.Perhaps it is best used with very young children, but my students were less than impressed with the selections available on this disc. When introducing classical music to young children, I have found it is not necessary to find cutesy versions of the music with silly lyrics put to them.Watching old Bugs Bunny cartoons (quite a few use classical music as their background) caught my students attention and interest a lot more than the music on this disc did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kids love it
I have not actually listened to this one - we gave it as gift and have not heard from them either. But we started with Beethoven's Wig 3 which is OUTSTANDING!My kids love it, as do all the "kid" passengers who have ever heard it.We also have #2, which initially didn't seem as good as #3, but with more listening, we are enjoying it more too.#3 was a winner from the very first song. The lyrics are hilarious and the music is beautiful - and my kids love the instrumental pieces as much as the sing-along versions.

1-0 out of 5 stars Crap/KitchSAVE YOUR CHILDREN FROM THIS!
This is so much worse than silly phrases to remember a symphony and the composer. The singing is horrendous, and so much vibrato, that anyone who thinks it is an example of good musicianship will never learn that there is some good music out there - 'cause it ain't HERE!

Editorial Review

This is a real sleeper of an album, literally. Smooth-jazz musicians--including Peter White, Dave Koz, Norman Brown, David Benoit, and others--play music here to put babies to sleep. Fans of New Age music, specifically what came out of the Pacific Northwest in the '80s, may find many of these 14 tracks reminiscent of that period. Long-time listeners of smooth-jazz radio may be reminded of the kind of ethereal, spacey music that was played in the early days of the format. Many of the songs are as obvious as Brian Culbertson's somnambulating "Brahms' Lullaby" and Koz's "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," but some are inspired choices with creative arrangements and strong performances. Koz and his brother Jeff shine on the Beatles' title tune and the other Lennon/McCartney chestnut, "Blackbird." Brown's take on James Taylor's "You Can Close Your Eyes" is also moving, while not straying from the stillness of the concept. Perhaps the standout track is the superb performance of vocalist John Stoddart on Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely." Read more

Editorial Review

This anthology of children-related tracks originates from the globally conscious Putamayo Records catalog. Artists from Africa (Senegal's Touré Kunda, Congo's Ricardo Lemvo), Europe (France's Manu Chao), the Caribbean (Jamaica's Cedella Marley Booker), North America (Buckwheat Zydeco and Eric Bibb from the U.S.; Canada's Teresa Doyle), South America (Brazil's Nazaré Pereira), and Australia (Trevor Adamson) offer tracks, and while the styles and moods vary, the album gels excellently. Even if the multicontinent angle strikes you as too catholic, it bears reiterating that this is a "playground" session, a collection that begins with a Senegalese in-line dance and continues through "Mardi Gras Mambo," a bongo-playing French monkey, and much more. And while the songs are playful, there's nothing in the way of tossed-off music. It's all first-rate, with the artists at the top of their games.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The most wonderful children's CD ever made
My family grew up with these songs, we have gone through multiple copies as they have been well worn & misplaced as we took them everywhere. I am so excited to find that there is an edition still availble as I raise my kids for them to fall in love with all the music from my childhood heart. I have sung more songs to them from off of this album than from anywhere else. I can't recommend this highly enough.

Our son enjoys this and so do I. Some of the slow songs are a drag, but all in all it is great for kids.

The CD finally got way too scratched up to play so we have not had the pleasure of hearing it for over a year. :( Emily is 7 now and still asks me to please put on her favorite CD. For centuries the world over, mothers (and fathers) have been cradling, cooing, and crooning to babies and small children with song. There's scarcely a one of us that cannot recall a particularly gentle song a special someone sang for a wee self--to calm, soothe, and aid slumber. This tender music is to the soul what mother's milk is to the body, and we call it the lullaby. Rooted in age-old tradition, Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars More than a Lullaby CD
I recently went through at home hospice care with a loved one. We listened to this album over and over through that trying time.He died with it playing. The mood of the music was very healing and spiritual.I listen to it now and remember him. These songs and artists help heal grief, not just soothe temporary restlessness."All the Pretty Little Horses" is my favorite but the entire album is quite beautiful.I highly recommend it for grief work as well as bedtime.

5-0 out of 5 stars Baby falls asleep by 5th song!
Beautiful and calming music for babies to sleep by!Our son is 3 1/2 months old and has been listening to this CD as he goes to sleep for a month now. He's eyes start to close by the 2nd song and tends to be firmly asleep by the 5th. The spanish song gets a tad louder than everything else, but it never seems to disturb him.

5-0 out of 5 stars Who Needs a Baby to Enjoy This Music?
I've enjoyed this cd for several years now. If the day has been particularly stressful, I find it easy to unwind by listening to this beautiful and restful music. The selected lullabies reflect ethnic diversity beginning with the haunting "Swedish Lullaby" by Libiana, to the Spanish "A La Nanita Nana" by Tish Hinojosa, to the African "Be Still My Child" by Ladysmith Black Mambazo. It's comforting to realize that in every culture in our too aggressive, troubled world, caring parents soothe their children to sleep with beautiful music. All of these songs are found on individual albums but are seamlessly brought together in this thoughtful compilation. There are a lot of lullaby cds to choose from, but this one will entertain adults as well as babies. I recently ordered it again to include in a baby shower gift. Exhausted new parents need rest too! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars still great 6 years later
I bought the "Mozart Effect" CD and a few other classical CD's; Bach and another Mozart after my daughter was born in late 1998. We had a difficult time getting her to sleep at night and decided to try playing music to soothe her.The "Mozart Effect" CD worked every time.As soon as she heard the Toy Symphony play she would relax and just listen to the music until she fell asleep. It's been more than a year since we played the CD, and recently when she was ill, she asked to listen to "her music".It still has the same calming effect.Regardless of the controversy surrounding Mozart's ability to make babies more intelligent, I think this music is very comforting and enjoyable.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful CD
I received several classical music CD's as gifts before my daughter was born, and out of all of them (also including classical CD's I had already owned) this is definitely my favorite. It stands out because it is not full of simply "traditional" arrangements but rather is very light and playful - there are all sorts of cute little chirping and whirring noises that add to it as well.It is just a lot of fun, and provides the perfect background for cuddling with your new little one.4-0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised-
The Mozart Effect - Music for Babiesis a pretty good disc. Admittedly not the best Mozart recordings around, but then my child is not exactly picky. I prefer Genie's Angels All Around as a lullaby CD but either The Mozart Effect or Angels All Around would make excellent baby shower gifts. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Dust off your blue suede shoes and polish up the tail fins on the Chevy: this album transports listeners back to the 1950s and early 1960s with all-time classic rock & roll. Children will love the strong rhythms, (sometimes) silly words, and easy-to-follow vocals. Adults will enjoy the cruise down memory lane with megahits like "Rock Around the Clock," "Willie & the Hand Jive," "Rockin' Robin," and "Name Game." Retaining all the spunk and sparkle they did when rock was young, these digitally remastered tunes are ready to inspire a whole new generation of little boppers. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Kids and adults will love this
A lot of the classic Rock and Roll songs of the late 1950s-early 1960s on this album. This is a great album to introduce to young kids and adults who love classic rock and roll songs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Toddlers Love Rock 'n' Roll
I purchased this CD for my 18 month old twins who absolutely just love it!It's great music for family gatherings because the old and young alike can enjoy singing and dancing along to it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun with the kids
Our two year old loves dancing and singing along to these 50's classic rock n' roll songs. These songs are the pure essence of the fun music can be.Yes, they are nonsensical. But that is the fun of it for the child. They are performed by the original artists. No cheesy dubbed kids vocals like other cd's we've purchased. This has been a treasured find for our family. ... The party line on most Windham Hill products seems to be that it's either the greatest stuff since wave machines, or that it all sounds alike. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Relaxing & enjoyable for all age groups
I have a 4 mth old baby and both he and I enjoy music. He gets a little uptight during changes so I like to play calming music for us both. This CD offers a wide range of beautiful songs.I can see this one playing in our household for many years.

5-0 out of 5 stars We Luv, Luv, Luv This Album
I play this every night for my daughter (17 months).I often sleep in the same room with her and really look forward to playing this softly. We even keep the CD player on repeat and I still like this.Very soothing and interesting.I highly recommend this for any new parent.

5-0 out of 5 stars buy more than one!
I first purchased this cd several years ago for myself, it was a wonderful way to relax. When my son came along I put it in his room among other "kids" cds.My son, now age 9,(who won't listen to anymore "kid" cds) absolutely loves it.He has been falling asleep to this wonderful cd for the past 3 years.I loved being able to share "the world" with him through music.Recently we remodeled and unfortunately the cd was chipped! He was heartbroken... so here I am purchasing another!Soothing rhythms, soft voices, wonderful instrumentation. A cd that the entire family will love and not get tired of hearing.Even familiar lullabies are updated very nicely. ... Read more
