5-0 out of 5 stars A must for any Simpsons superfan.
This has got to be one of my faveroite Simpsons CDs I own.
5-0 out of 5 stars 4 1/2 Springfield, You Rock!
Until I heard this CD, I never fully appreciated how much music was in "The Simpsons." Sure, I knew the theme songs, and was aware of guest appearances by The Who, The Red Hot Chile Peppers, and many other bands, and I know that Danny Elfmann and ALf Clausen are exceptional composers who excel in many other venues.Over the years, however, the show has produced a number of memorable songs, many of them satirizing some of the most popular (and often unctious) chestnuts of recent American music.
5-0 out of 5 stars the simpsons are great!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I've Got A Magic Toenail
Well, I don't know where to start. This is a great album if you happen to like ex-convict singing cartoon cat-like creatures from outer space. I happen to be in that small, vociferous minority who does, and find this album to be wholesomely strange and depraved. Any CD with songs like "Beeflog," "Big Fat Squid," and my personal favorite, the haunting "Magic Toenail," is worth a listen in my book.
5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE BRAK!!!
The humor on this album is sublime. We got it as a gift a couple of years ago and never listened to it.My 4 yo son discovered it and made me play it for him and I just cracked up!We've been listening to it several times a day for the past month and I still haven't tired of it.My 1 yo loves the music and just rocks out and my 8 yo likes figuring out the more subtle jokes.Fun for the whole family!

5-0 out of 5 stars BRAK IS A BONAFIDE CURE FOR DEPRESSION!
I don't use that title lightly.I inherited my Dad's chemical depression.I fought it for years, with happy-drug this and vitamin-that, and everything you can think of. One day a local radio show here in St. Louis (Dave Glover Show, 97.1Talk) played "Soup On A Stick" during rush hour while I was on my way home from work.My car almost went off the road halfway through the song with the line "But that's another Stow-ey!!" The next day the same show played "Things That I Like", and I was in almost in tears.I knew of the Brak Show, and had even seen it once or twice. But I had no idea of the real POWER OF BRAK! I went out and bought this CD and ever since then I have been infectiously singing, humming, or tapping it - and have been SMILING!! LAUGHING!!So far: Depression Drugs - 2 / Brak - 10!!! And no, I'm not making this up. I challenge any depressed person to frown while this thing is playing!!! It's IMPOSSIBLE! So go dip your pig in butter, ride it 'round the playground, and join Brak & I on a trip into forgotten memory, because when you are with Brakky, you are 4 years old again - and none of that adult stress crud has scarred you yet!! Enjoy with big smiles and lemonade! My little girl sings along too, she loves it!! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Actually, it's 3.5 stars in my opinion.
The 3 movies of The Lion King are very famous to many people who are or not Disney fans. This is one of the 3 of course. This is really a wonderful movie of stories that hadn't been told in the first movie of The Lion King. It's really filled with plenty of humor and the music in it impressed me much. So I found this soundtrack and bought it in a music shop near my college.
2-0 out of 5 stars Very Short, Not Good Enough
Since this is such a ridiculously short CD, I'll review it track by track.
5-0 out of 5 stars Lebo M and Nathan Lane highly represented
This album seemed more like the Lebo M and Nathan Lane album. They actually could have named it for them. Thats not a bad thing, though--I adore them both! As others have said, you wont get the cool Digga Tunnah from the movie and that sucks. But you will hear Lebo's beautiful voice on the "Lion sleeps tonight". Thats worth the price of the whole CD. ... Read more

When Duke Ellington began to slip classical motifs and structures into his jazz compositions in the '30s, two fellow composers took his example as a challenge to do the same. Raymond Scott played movie music, led the house band on the popular radio show, "Your Hit Parade," and supplied much of the music for Carl Stalling's famous cartoon scores; John Kirby led a jazz combo that included Ben Webster, Russell Procope and Charlie Shavers. All three bandleaders are saluted on Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm not a bloody jukebox!
This is the second CD of songs which were actually featured on the Simpsons TV show. There were two additional Simpsons albums of songs specifically recorded for CD, about which the less said the better. This CD is the real thing.Songs that Simpsons fanatics will recall from watching the show.Great stuff like the songs from the Mary Poppins parody and "The Simpson Family Smile-Time Variety Hour".Simpsons fans will love it.Of course, if you're not a Simpsons fan you won't be interested in it, so why are you reading this review?

5-0 out of 5 stars As Mr.Burns would say, 'Excellent'
The music plays a big part in the series as do the characters and such. GO SIMPSONIC WITH THE SIMPSONS is loaded with a heap of wonderful songs, and some funny tracks such as the ' Mr. Plow '
5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the Best.
Music plays an integral part of THE SIMPSONS. In fact, Alf Clausen has created so much original music for the series, most of it will never be available to own.Fortunately, a very small collection has been rounded up onto GO SIMPSONIC WITH THE SIMPSONS.In my opinion, of the four Simpsons album currently available, GO SIMPSONIC WITH THE SIMPSONS is the best. Unlike THE SIMPSONS SING THE BLUES and THE YELLOW ALBUM, GO SIMPSONIC is a collection of original music that was actually performed on THE SIMPSONS. It's most like SONGS IN THE KEY OF SPRINGFIELD. However, as a wonderful collection that SONGS IN THE KEY OF SPRINGFIELD is, GO SIMPSONIC is a better collection. Most of the music on GO SIMPSONIC comes from shows performed in later seasons of the show. THE SIMPSONS have always been an original show, but after the first five or six seasons, the series hit a rut and wasn't producing very much original material. After about a two year slump the show came back into its own for a few more years and most of the music on GO SIMPSONIC comes from that period.Interlaced throughout the tracks are also snippets of dialogue that accompany the music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Excellent Scott Release!!
I can't get enough music by Raymond Scott (is there any music more delightful?). When I saw this new release of original recordings of Scott's big band I snatched it up at an 'unbelievably low price'. I must say, it compares very favorably with the recent Metropole Orchestra/Beau Hunks arrangements.

3-0 out of 5 stars Zorn's first all-out cartoon excursion.
In late 1988 and 1989, John Zorn recorded music to serve as a soundtrack for four seven minute cartoons ("Cynical Hysterie Hour") by Kiriko Kubo.Released for a moment by CBS then lapsed out of print, the album stayed that way until Zorn was able to successfully negotiate a deal with them to secure its re-release on Tzadik.
5-0 out of 5 stars Cartoon music for the deranged
The fine people at Tzadik were kind enough to inform me that Sony still technically own the rights to this album, and have generously licensed it BACK to Tzadik so they could distribute it. The original pressing of this disc was Zorn's first major label release, made way back in 1989, and achieved some notoriety as such, which I'll explain presently... The disc is comprised of several goofy, cool bits of manic weirdness that have been grouped roughly together into four cuts, assumedly to match four separate episodes of series it was the soundtrack for -- a Japanese TV anime show called, as you may have guessed, THE CYNICAL HYSTERIE HOUR. Kiriko Kubo, the cartoonist/creator, even sings on some of the cuts, and writes some minimal lyrics (nothing intrusive or out-of-place, I assure you; stuff like the assertion, made against the diverse, cheerful, and bizarre background of the music, that she likes icecream -- said, of course, in Japanese). Sony somehow didn't NOTICE what a wonderful CD they had. Despite the presence of Zorn and other regular collaborators of considerable repute (Marc Ribot, Arto Lindsay, Wayne Horvitz, Bill Frisell, Robert Quine, Cyro Baptista, etc., etc.), they ISSUED THE ORIGINAL WITHOUT ANYONE'S NAME ON THE OUTER PACKAGING SAVE KUBO'S, and treated it "merely" as an anime soundtrack, of interest only to Japanese TV viewers. They didn't even market it outside Japan, and let it go out of print almost immediately. It then became, as Tzadik have dubbed it, "the Holy Grail for Zornithologists" until such a time as Zorn got the Tzadik label off the ground and acquired the rights to distribute it himself (for the time being). Really, it's too bad Sony didn't do more with this. The CD is some of the most accessible, listener-friendly, and flat out FUN stuff Zorn and co. have ever recorded, even more listener-friendly than the self-titled NAKED CITY CD or THE BIG GUNDOWN (which both seem pretty accessible to me too, for the record -- if they don't to you, you might want to bear that in mind). The disc's weaknesses, if it has any, lie in it almost being TOO playful for my ears -- I occasionally want to hear Yamantanka Eye shrieking and gibbering psychotically, in the midst of all the fun, or hear oblique references to S and M or death metal or torture or so forth, just to maintain a strong sense of the Zorniness of it all. But Eye isn't on it, and instead of occasional bursts of speedmetal hysteria -- on this album, you get jangly, delirous banjo parts courtesy of Bill Frisell. But really, borderline cute as it sometimes gets, it's all good fun, and well worth having. Anyone who simply loves cartoon music -- any Carl Stalling fans out there -- would doubtlessly grok it, too. Oh, yeah, I suppose I should note that it IS kind of short -- the whole disc runs less than half an hour -- but it's such a jam packed half hour that you won't mind, I promise. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This collection has a split personality. On one side, there's the youth Moment, led by 12-year-old Aaron Carter, the younger brother of Backstreet Boy Nick,No Authority, and Jessica Simpson. On the other side, there are the established artists, who are true surprises. Sinead O'Connor?Cyndi Lauper?Isaac Hayes? So, it's a battle between bouncy pop with its hyperextended beats and clear skin and the ragged tone of world-worn former heroes. Things begin with a surprisingly mellow track from TLC's Tionne T-Boz Watkins (perhaps she can't figure which side of the fence to choose here). From there, the beats step up, and Aaron Carter, Baha Men, and Jessica Simpson all deliver the kinds of catchy tunes you expect. Sinead O'Connor hasn't abandoned her sententious beginnings. Even with the addition of hip-hop beats and a few random electronic noises, she still sounds as solemn as ever, whispering and singing softly. Former Spice Girl Gerri Halliwell updates Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots" without adding or subtracting much. A better novelty is Cyndi Lauper performing "I Want a Mom That Will Last Forever," a sentimental tune perfectly suited for her emotive reach. Read more

my two and a half year old daughter saw Maya the Bee in New York City, and since has listened to this cd on average 1-4 times per day for a month! This is her first audio obsession. She enjoys learning about each insects character and song. She especially loves Bobbie the dung beetle. The music is phenomonal, the lyrics are so well-written (both myself and my daughter love them) the story is exciting and is inspirational for all children, but girls especially would appreciate this strong, brave bee, the heroine of the story. I think the planet would be a much more evolved place if more children could become interested and obsessed with music like this. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It Ain't Cartoon Music -- and that's GOOD!
The Raymond Scott Orchestrette is a new group who set out to prove that Scott's music, which is often associated with Bugs Bunny cartoons, is more than just animation soundtrack fodder. They prove this conclusively and creatively. The group, recorded in 2001 (Scott passed away in 1994 at age 85), explores some of the maestro's better known works, like "Powerhouse" and "The Penguin," as well as lesser-known tunes like the impressionistic "A Street Corner in Paris" and the noir-dramatic "Naked City." The RSO also recorded an acoustic version of one of Scott's 1963 electronic lullabies for infants, "Little Miss Echo." The expert players draw from modern jazz, progressive rock, musette, swing, chamber music, and lounge grooves to paint a colorful and exciting canvas. Their arrangements are clever, dynamic, and iconoclastic, as well as being laced with sophisticated humor. Don Byron and the Beau Hunks Sextet have recorded Scott's early "Quintette" compositions in renditions that are faithful to the originals. The RS Orchestrette clearly had more ambitious intentions, and they have succeeded. This album deserves the attention of any fan of Raymond Scott -- and that audience is growing. More info about Scott can be found at RaymondScott.com. The RSO claims to "bring Scott's controlled lunacy into the 21st century." I'm sure the late composer would be proud to know younger musicians are keeping his legacy alive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tickled mercilessly!
OH! I am EXHAUSTED!Let me just catch my breath and I'll play that again!Reminds me of the scene in "Roger Rabbit" where the toons get out of the box.Nothing holds still for an instant!Okay, so Raymond is rolling in his grave. He probably needed the excercise! If you want to hear the purest version- get Raymond himself: The biggest- get the Beau Hunks'Chesterfield Arrangements. This is not for musicological purists but, how to say...this music blew my skirts up!GREAT Fun!

3-0 out of 5 stars Diverting
This band has produced a pleasing recording of their own arrangements of Raymond Scott pieces. Most of the material is his well-known novelty music, while a few are based on his relatively obscure electronic music. This is a nice recording but not a vital one, unless one is a major Scott fan.Read more

Anime music. There has always been a charm to this music from Japan with words the non-speaker can't understand.Generally fast and upbeat, it is practically what would have happened to music if the 1980s never ended.Let's get one thing straight here - it would be outright impossible to compile a collection of anime music that everyone is going to enjoy. The sheer amount of available tracks is huge compared to how many you can cram onto one CD.Read more

Editorial Review

Prewar gems from a long-neglected master. Scott's career as composer, bandleader, and electronic-music pioneer is just beginning to be rediscovered. Here he mixes swing jazz with classical forms, exotica (long before there even was such a thing), and his own hyperactive melodies to create a timeless sound. Many of the bouncy tunes are recognizable from their constant use in cartoon soundtracks over the years: the classic "Powerhouse," a jittery mix of an edgy scherzo and a relentless march (as well as a favorite of Looney Toons composer Carl Stalling); the jaunty "The Toy Trumpet"; and the dizzying "Dinner Music for a Pack of Hungry Cannibals." Scott's original recordings with his Quintette (which, strangely enough, consisted of six musicians) are a delight, and the invention and energy never let up. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A brilliant composer
Raymond Scott cannot really be categorized. Constant references to the use of his music in cartoons are unfair. Scott approaches each of his pieces as a total composition, which is why they usually sound so good in even themost trite cover versions. Scott's curiosity about music & musicalinstruments was insatiable. The compositions on this CD are the core ofScott's art, & the starting point. 5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect music to do stuff to.
If you need music to wash your car, clean the house, bake a cake or juggle to, this is the stuff. These songs were in cartoons and conjur up wacky images in the mind of madcap chases and retarted farm animals withfirearms. Holy crap! this is a good cd! Sure, it's a little silly but notin a Puff Daddy way, in a good way! Perfect background music for everydayactivities. Excellent driving music. It makes you want to swerve into othercars and run over fire hydrants. ... Read more

Editorial Review

In this, Franklin's first record, the good-natured green turtle opts for a loosey-goosey musical romp over the predicaments that tend to prey on him and his TV forest pals. Devoted Franklin followers (ages 2 to 5, mainly) will find plenty familiar here: the down-home, pluck-heavy title track opens the CD, and original tunes "What I Do In The Morning," "Hello," "Friends," "The Dinosaur Song," "Georgia Camp Meeting," and "Rainforest Song" from the "Franklin's Big Adventure" stage show make up the bulk of the remaining tracks. The CD also features "I Wonder," "Brothers and Sisters," and "Wake Up Spring" from the video Read more
