Michael Bublé's assured debut and the tireless year of globe-trotting touring he spent promoting it elevated the 20-something Vancouver native into the first rank of pop crooner revivalists. His sophomore studio follow-up largely turns on the same formula that helped make his considerable vocal prowess so attractive to mainstream audiences, mixing the nigh flawless, if expected Sinatra-channeling ("I've Got You Under My Skin") with more playful and inviting renditions of pop standards like the Gershwin's "A Foggy Day in London Town," "Feeling Good," "Try A Little Tenderness" and Cole Porter's "I've Got You Under My Skin." But it's the eclectic mix of more contemporary material the singer seasons them with -- apt tribute to Bublé hero Bobby Darin -- that keeps him walking the narrow tightrope between artistic intrigue (a blues-tinged vamp of Holland-Dozier-Holland's "How Sweet It Is," Leon Russell's lovely "Song For You," with a guest turn by Chris Botti) and the kitsch-laden abyss ("Quando, Quando, Quando"'s Euro-centric duet with Nelly Furtado, a ring-a-ding-fling with the Beatles' "Can't Buy Me Love" that echoes fellow Canadian crooner/rival Matt Dusk's more successful flirtation with Lennon-McCartney). A Rush
I rememeber the first time that I listened to this CD.I was in my car about a year ago waiting for an appointment.I would hear a new song, and I would scream with the excitement of a teenage fangirl.I love the arrangements of old standards. I love the new songs. I love the sound of the band, and most of all I love the sensuous sound of Michale Buble's voice. 10 out of 10!

Nelly, you only had to learn ONE WORD IN SPANISH.....
We loved the CD, but were disappointed when Nelly sang CUANDO CUANDO CUANDO. She only had to learn one word in Spanish, and instead of saying CUANDO (translation: when), she sang CUANTO (translation: how much), prostituting the song.
Another Great one
After thoroughly enjoying the DVD/CD release, "Caught in the Act," I also gave this CD a listen to by Buble, the second album of his that I have listened to. I have to give it 5 stars because I am very much impressed with and enamoured by Buble's emergence on the scene. He is a very capable vocalist and has given me a new perspective on what a jazz vocalist should sound like.

Dance Me To The End Of Love
I really like this album and Madeleine's song selection is superb with the exception of Dance Me To The End Of Love. This song written by Leonard Cohen really creeps me out. Most people think it's a love song between a man and a woman. Leonard Cohen explained the song in an interview:

Madeleine Peyroux has a great voice and terrific taste in songs to cover, and the band backing her up here hits all the right mellow, jazzy notes.If she keeps up the effort, she's bound to produce some classic recordings.But she isn't quite there yet.There's nothing really wrong with these twelve songs - certainly nothing jumps out as poorly done.The problem is more that nothing really jumps out, period.Hearing their songs so tastefully copied makes me want to listen to Bessie Smith, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Hank Williams, but Peyroux doesn't make much of a case as to why we should listen to her versions instead of the originals.Not bad at all, but only not bad.

It is not just the timbre of Norah Jones's voice that is mature beyond her 22 years. Her assured phrasing and precise time are more often found in older singers as well. She is instantly recognizable, blending shades of Billie Holiday and Nina Simone without sounding like anyone but herself. Any way you slice it, she is a singer to be reckoned with. Her readings of the Hank Williams classic "Cold Cold Heart" and Hoagy Carmichael's "The Nearness of You" alone are worth the price of the CD. Jones's own material, while not bad, pales a bit next to such masterpieces. They might have fared better had she and producer Arif Mardin opted for some livelier arrangements, taking better advantage of brilliant sidemen such as Bill Frisell, Kevin Breit, and Brian Blade; or if the tunes had simply been given less laconic performances. Jones has all the tools; what will come with experience and some careful listening to artists like J.J. Cale and Shirley Horn is the knack of remaining low-key without sounding sleepy--sometimes less is not, in fact, more. Read more

And while the young vocal star's good looks are smart enough for a boy band, his muse seems to have sprung from a more sassy and compelling musical era. Just Love This Guy
While we've heard them time and time again - Buble takes the classic standards and adds his own twist. No, maybe there is nothing terribly new going on - but he didn't mutilate the music either.Relaxing - Just lovely.

Rare to find - an entire CD of excellent music!
Michael Buble is simply incredible, and although I do own all of his CDs it's this one that I come back to time and time again.This is the perfect CD to play while sipping a glass of wine or enjoying dinner with friends.It's slow and sensual at times and then lively and fun.I simply cannot say enough good about this artist or this CD.

'Standards Lite'
While certainly a better presentation than the Rod Stewarts and Michael Boltons of the world and their flaccid stabs at music way different from a rocker's sensibilities, Buble is a standards singer for those who think Kenny G is a jazz musician and John Tesh is a pianist.

It's different from Come Away with Me, but it grew on me. Definitely different. It's still Norah Jones. Her voice continues to soothe, and at least half the song were written or co-written by her. Frank never needed luck to be a lady--he embodied talent!!!
Frank Sinatra is, without question, one of the greatest entertainers the world has ever known--or perhaps ever will know. Yes, this CD does try to cover a lot of ground; but it is a very good collection for a single CD that represents Frank's best when he worked at his own Reprise Records. I am in love with this CD; and you will be, too!
The Chairmen of the board at his best!
This is Sinatra at his swinging best. I am addicted to this album. Fantastic to think that any singer could have 29 very good years, and how many excellent ones! this CD includes his hits from 1960 to 1979 and include both studio and live tunes. Great bands and arrangers like The Count, Nelson Riddle, Billy May, and Don Costa. A great CD for any Sinatra fan!

"Just the Way you look tonite" makes it worthy
I got this CD a while back and recently have been listening to it again and in light of Madeliene's new CD, one must assume that "I'm All Right" is related to her relationship to Galison.Seemed like their romance turned sour and this CD has a lot to do with it.Anyway the master piece in this CD is the 1936 Kerns brothers "Just the Way you Look Tonite"It is genius!The backdrop is Bossa Nova, light and airy and Madeliene's phrasing is perfect, giving the right amount of inflection in the right spotand the Harmonica riff just adds even moreto the interpretation.Ginger and Fred would have been impress, the first singers to sing this song.Okay, now the CD itself, itsa good addition to your growing Madeliene Peyroux collection."Back in your own BackYard" is a fun song and there's the title track "Got you on my Mind" there's a lot of version to this old song, unfortunately this is my first time to hear so it sounds original to me.I like it,Madeliene makes it mournful and the string accompaniment is right on.Highly reccomended.

Peyroux is the real deal. She brushes off comparisons to Billie Holiday, but it's certainly not bad company to keep. This is a beautiful record flowing with sparse arrangements and sultry vocals. If you like Norah...wait until you hear this! The 12 songs found on Carless Love feature a mix of acoustic blues, country ballads and torch songs showcasing Peyroux's sultry alto. Highlights include "Dont' Wait Too Long" composed by Perouyx, producer Larry Klien (of Joni Mitchell fame) and Jesse Harris (best know for his contributions to Norah Jones' hit album, Come Away With Me). Diana Krall is one of the maxim exponents of the jazz genre, because as ny other singer, has known to blend her expressive, suggestive and warmth voice with filled of vitality, creativity, fabulous arrangements and fascinating sensuality, without mention the first-rate enraptured musical support.
Great CD
I've been a fan of Diana Krall since I first heard her excellent renditions of old classics on previous cd releases. Her albums have never disappointed me. Her lyrics, deep and emotional, not spappy--revealing. The first time I heard Krall moved me. This CD is a great addition to her catalog. I also think it has some of the best "sounding" music I have heard on any CD. Her voice is simple and pure with a live quality and piano is set forward like it should be. This is new stuff, not pop, not jazz or blues just the best of the three styles.

" Old Blue Eyes " is back and better sounding than ever in this 2000 digitally remastered cd of some of Frank Sinatra's most revered and cherished songs. I hope I'm not sounding too much like a commercial , yet it's true. I could pimp this cd forvever. I can be in any kind of mood and atleast two songs off of this packed cd , will suit me perfectly. From " Wee Small Hours " to "Witchcraft" , you'll be tapping your toes , mixing the martini's, calling up the lugs, and kissing the broads. This disc is a sure gas , baby. Hey wait.....I'm starting to sound like him !

Bruce Springsteen once said that Frank Sinatra had "a voice filled with bad attitude, life, beauty, excitement, a nasty sense of freedom, (love making) and a sad knowledge of the ways of the world." I doubt few people could describe Frank's voice better. His voice was rich, capable of expressing the finest of nuances in meaning, vibrant and thrilling all at the same time. My daughter wiggles to this CD
This CD keeps my 10 month-old daughter fully entertained while I take a shower.It's not "jazz" like you might be thinking (abstract, hard to sing to), these are catchy tunes that you have heard many times before.There may be a few you don't know like the great song about potato chips.It's just too cute.I also like the muffin man...it's a classic.

Kids love it and it won't drive the parents crazy!
We absolutely love the Jazz for Kids CD and we buy it as a gift for all the kiddie birthday parties. My husband and I love it just as much as my two year old and her baby brother. Favorites include Ella Fitzgerald's jazzy "Old MacDonald Had a Farm", "Yes, We Have No Bananas", which my daughter sings all the time with or without the CD, "Rag Mop," and "The Muffin Man". I agree with the previous reviewer that the only thing I'd like better about it is if it were longer! I played it at a baby shower I hosted and it was a hit with all the guests. A great introduction to jazz for kids.

English singer-pianist Jamie Cullum comes into view as an already heralded jazz-pop artist, signed to a million-pound contract and riding a CD that's already registered double platinum in the UK. The "jazz" label doesn't hang that comfortably on the 24-year-old Cullum--he's more in the mold of polished lounge swingers like Bobby Darin and Buddy Greco and has more in common with, say, Billy Joel (definitely a "New York State of Mind") than any traditional jazz artist you might mention. An ironist who covers both Cole Porter and Radiohead, he's aware of the contradictions that he embodies. Those contradictions drive the title track as Cullum's lyrics plumb "twentysomething" uncertainties ("Maybe move back home and pay off my loans/Working nine to five answering phones") while moving to a mock-primitive chanted riff that's pure '50s hip. What surprises most is Cullum's emotional and musical range, and the way he combines methods to create depth and complexity. "Blame it on My Youth" is delivered with the heartfelt delicacy of Chet Baker, while his reading of "The Wind Cries Mary" suggests that Jimi Hendrix might have just about invented smooth jazz. "I Could Have Danced All Night" explodes with playful energy and creativity, launched with scat singing over a rhythm pounded out on drums and piano wood. Cullum has energy and talent to burn, plus a postmodern knack for layering idioms that signals a welcome direction for jazz-pop. As "Lover, You Should've Come Over" attests, he can also project an emotional intensity that breaks through the clever arrangements. Read more

ONE OF THE BEST YOUNG ARTISTS
Jamie Cullum, in my opinion, is one of the best young artists around right now. And, Twentysomething is the best of his three CD's that he has released. If you have never experienced his music before, listen to a few tracks. You will think you are listening to a guy who has been around the block a few times and has been playing Vegas piano bars since the Rat Pack days. His songs are of the life experience and show a maturity well beyond his years (he is currently 26 and he was about 24 when he made this album).

Ol Blue eyes
I already had this double disc cd.But unfortunatly disc two got stolen. I guess thats a good testiment by itself.The chairman sings almost all of his cherished hits.My personal favorites "The Lady is a Tramp""New York, New York" and "Witchcraft".This is music you could listen to over and over.I became a Sinatra fan strangly enough by watching SNL. Saw dances to some of the music from this CD at Pacific Northwest Ballet and loved it.Bought the CD and love it even more.

Its not yet the greatest collections for me.

Best of SchoolHouse Rock! Audio CD: Original titles from orignial recordings. Also recommended for those car rides where you can sing along with your kids. My oldest has not been exposed for a week yet, but already can sing several in parts. Rating: 4.5/5
Schoolhouse Rock STILL Rocks!
I loved it as a kid, and now my kids love it -- they're going into 2nd grade and kindergarten soon, so neither has any real understanding of government, grammar, etc., but they sing along with most of the songs, and I think when they start to learn these things in school, the songs will make it easier for them.They're fun, they're catchy -- sure there are a few favorites that aren't there, but almost all the other ones will keep you humming through your day :)
