5-0 out of 5 stars cd
I love this music and had recently been to the stage play with friends. This was a wonderful way to keep the memory of the music for myself.. AND to give another copy to our hostess as a thank you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mamma Mia - the CD
Having seen the show in London, I was looking forward to the CD.I did not purchase the CD at the show, and was suprised that your price was less.
5-0 out of 5 stars For those who hate musicals
I love this CD.You have to like ABBA.If you don't, don't buy it obviously. It's great to listen to even if you don't like musicals. This is another broadway soundtrack that my fellow workers don't mind me putting in the CD player while working in the kitchen. They like ABBA and hate musicals, so this is right up their alley. The story is a little hard to follow by the songs, but you can get the very basic plot from them.I think you'll like it. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed Seeing The Play Twice
I saw the stage production at Hollywood's famous Pantages Theater some years ago, and was quite impressed. I then purchased the CD, which has been in my CD player many times. But I somehow feel the original Movie soundtrack was a bit more superior. Especially the powerful film opening of 'Circle of Life.' I just feel the strong African male vocals delivered much more impact. And not to sound sexist, but Rafiki was also better portrayed as a male, than the female actresses seen in the stage productions. But still an extremely enjoyable listening experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Flawless Material
The Lion King will undoubtedly bring you oodles of entertainment. After recently seeing The Lion King National Tour I just had to have this item. From the legendary opening Circle of Life to the astounded ending, you will experience constant harmony. The land of Africa is a remarkable place, and now you can experience it in your very own home. Buy it now! You simply can't go wrong.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
I Have yet to see this play but,the music is absolutley beautiful. it's more than just feel good musical it has a message that can been heared through the music itself. i personally don't even listen to the orgnial songs from the movie soundtrack anymore, because many of the other songs are so spritual amd moveing. songs like; They Lives In You, He Lives In You (reprise, my FAVORUITE), The Cricle Of Life, Soudowland(My Other Fav) and Endless Night. All the Music on this soundtrack are REALLY GOOD. It's a good mixture of fun, and spritual music and does an amazing job of telling the story. The vocals, the music just evrthing is spotless. i can't say enough about this play, it's a classic

4-0 out of 5 stars Lovely Recording
I personally prefer Rebecca Caine over Sarah Brightman, but it doesn't matter. This was a beautiful recording. :D

5-0 out of 5 stars A True Musical Phenomenon!
After 20 years since it opened, THE PHANTOM has become the longest running, most popular stage show, and highest grossing Entertainment venture of all time, bringing in more earnings than any other stage show, any movie, (including the series of Star wars, Titanic, and Lord of the Rings)!! This Double disc volume of the original London cast is a Spectacular Rendition of this timeless Masterpiece. Not only are the performances by the entire Cast including 'THE' Phantom himself, Michael Crawford, who's melodic, extraordinary range and powerful vocals, make for fantastic Vocal tracks that capture the essence of 'Phantom,' but the Score and the way the orchestra plays it is powerful and very Full. Compared to both the Canadian Cast recording and Movie Record, The London Cast's Orchestra is by far the Most Full sounding overall.
4-0 out of 5 stars 75% more words!And 20% less carbs!
At the time that I'm writing this review there are 379 reviews for the original 1986 London cast recording of "The Phantom of the Opera".It can be safely surmised that many people have opinions about this particular hallmark of musical theater. It also seems requisite that any reviews written after 2004 must bring up the movie soundtrack and compare the two leads, with varying levels of love for one and hate for the other.I shall attempt to summarize some of the more frequently repeated comments here, attempting to adhere to bare facts while impressing as little opinion as possible into what is a very personal musical.

Michael Bennett's 1975 tale of Broadway's gypsies--the chorus dancers--resonated with audiences as few shows ever have, examining with both hilarity and heartbreak the grueling life of ordinary performers always auditioning for an opportunity to be members of a faceless chorus line. And along the way, it picked up the Pulitzer, the New York Drama Critics Award, and nine Tonys, and became the longest-running show in Broadway history. The original cast (eight of whom contributed their real-life memories to the show) included no major stars, but are unmatched on this cast recording of Marvin Hamlisch and Edward Kleban's score, including Priscilla Lopez's poignant "Nothing," Donna McKechnie's yearning dance number "The Music and the Mirror," one of Broadway's most famous torch ballads in "What I Did for Love," and the ultimate high-kicking chorus number, "One." Fans of the show will welcome the 1998 remastered CD, which adds two and a half minutes to "Hello Twelve, Hello Thirteen, Hello Love." While still incomplete, the montage now includes "Four-foot ten," "Little brat," and "The worst thing in school...."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars chorus line cd
service and timing was exceptional on this purchase.order placed, shipped and received in a matter of a few days.

3-0 out of 5 stars Perfect First for a collection
The best thing about A Chorus Line is not only does it have great music, great lyrics, and a great script, but also it lets the entire world see what actors, singers, and dancers go through. Which is why I put this as the First CD to buy for someone interested in broadway. If you have a collection and don't have this, best get on that. This show is a great introduction into broadway and a wonderful study of the arts. Favorite Songs: "Sing" & "What I Did for Love"

5-0 out of 5 stars AN ABSOLUTE CLASSIC!
It's one of the finest soundtracks for a B'way musical I've ever heard. The CD captures the best moments of the show including some songs that will live forever such as "What I Did for Love", "One" and "I Hope I Get It". I've seen the play three times: twice in B'way and once in London (very good but not as good as the B'way version at the Shubert). It's one of those shows that remain forever in your mind and heart and that you know for certain it's a great classic of all times. No collectors of B'way shows can miss this one: it's a MUST, in capital letters. ... Read more

For his second Broadway musical (and first time out writing a full show directly for the stage), Elton John certainly set his sights high by turning to one of the grandest of all operas as a source. His continued collaboration with lyricist Tim Rice has produced a work far closer to the agreeable pop style and formula of the team's Disney musical, Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars One of Disneys Best!
So Disney has a tendency to take basic ideas and make them astheticly wonderful, but the real musical theater aspect is lost. Luckily, Aida does not fall in that category. The only main artistic license that Disney took with "Aida" was making her form Nubia (shes from a different country in the opera) so they could play the whole race card. That aside, I love this musical. The Music is great, the lyrics are great, I listened to it non stop when I first got it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. My favorite songs would be "The Gods Love Nubia" and "Written in The Stars."

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad... Not good...
One major reason to buy this CD is the EXCELLENT cast, Sherie Renee Scott, Heather Headly, Adam Pascal, but the score is lacking. There are a few good songs that make it into my favorites but the rest seem to be just fillers, I would buy the four good songs off of iTunes and leave the rest to be undiscovered.
5-0 out of 5 stars Aida is definitely worth buying
I became a "Renthead" as soon as I heard the music, and immediately fell in love with the voices of Adam Pascal and Idina Menzel. I heard about "Aida", and how Adam was in it, and how Idina had done it at one point, too, so I figured, "Why not?" So I tried it. And I'm really glad I did. Not only is Adam's rocker voice amazing, Elton John and Tim Rice really outdid themselves. "Aida" is a lot like "The Lion King", which was also really successful. At first I thought that I would be really biased against Sherie Rene Scott because she plays the part that Idina had. I was afraid I would totally blow off her voice, going, "It's not Idina. Whatever." But although she is not Idina, she is really good in her own way, and I think her voice is very beautiful and has a very strong tone. Then, I had heard so much about the "phenomenal" Heather Headley, but I have to say, I was somewhat non-impressed. I was waiting for this voice to totally blow me away, but I found her voice kind-of sharp and rough at times, not like the PLEASINGLY jagged voice of Adam, or the smooth liquidity of Sherie Rene. But even though I didn't think she had the best performance by far, this is still a very good buy. If you like uplifting Pop/Rock music, and beautiful love ballads, you will love "Aida". ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Recording!
I do musical theatre with a small group, and they were doing Les Miserables. When I was cast as Young Cosette my dad thought it would be good to buy the cast recording since I was in more than one song. When it came; I listened to it i fell in love with the music. If I were to rate the songs for the top 10 I would do it like this.
4-0 out of 5 stars My favorite song
I love the whole thing but my favorite song would have to be on my own.

5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!!
This was the first CD I purchased of Les Misérables, my first exposure to the music was a local High School performance which didn't do it justice, but I bought this CD after seeing it. It took awhile to get really into it for me, but this is incontestably my favourite musical of all time (yes even more than phantom of the opera).

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!!!
I went to see this play, where we live! It was just fantastic! One of my friends from school was in it! I just listening to the music and singing along! I recommend it to anyone who loves musicals!

5-0 out of 5 stars It gets the whole family singing and dancing
I bought this CD because my daughter was involved in a local production of Seussical The Musical. We play the CD all the time at home and in the car and the whole family dance and sing along to the songs. It gets you moving without realising it. It's a fantastic way to get to know some Dr Seuss stories and made me realise the importance of imagination in children, something that seems lacking nowadays. It's a beautiful story and sung wonderfully by all the performers. I highly recommend this CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Favorite Show
This is by far one of the BEST musical recordings. Each song has something fresh and important to say. And they couldn't sound better. I am always hesistant to listen to a new show before I see it, but believe me it is worth it. Unbelievable. Norbert Leo Butz is a god and Sherie Rene Scott delivers. They both bring such emotion to this show. Unstoppable. Amazing. Poignant. Daring. Ingenious. Not enough words to describe the joy that is "The Last Five Years." You'll love every minute of it. I own upwards of thirty musical soundtracks and this is the only one I listen to from beginning to end without skipping any songs. Just buy it. You won't regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE THIS SHOW
It is just fantastic music - well performed and moving. If you've ever done a musical audition you know that the audition song is truely inspired

4-0 out of 5 stars Great energy -- sometimes lacks emotion
Admittedly, I'm a little biased -- I'm a music director in the Twin Cities who regularly works with amazingly talented singer/actors.I had the pleasure of doing this show in 2004, and happily, we are remounting it this summer. Both of our casts are incredible singers AND actors, and bring far more realism to the characters of Jamie and Cathy than do the performers on this cast album.I would have to say I enjoy Butz' voice and energy, but I almost skip over Scott's songs, as I find her voice strangely lacking in emotion. The director of our production saw the original Off-Broadway show, and said he felt the same way about it when viewed live, so I feel my remarks have merit. If you have fallen in love with the CD, please do yourself the favor of trying to catch the show LIVE (hopefully with a cast as amazing as ours in MN), and you will likely gain a wider appreciation for the complexity of these characters than you can hear on a recording. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful
The music takes a little bit to grow on you, but boy, does it!It's wonderful, charming, romantic, funny--just like the play itself.I loved almost every song and I was really impressed with "Long As I'm Here With You"-- I thought it was an old song written back in the twenties, because it so sounded like one. The cast is absolutely energetic and endearing, and Sutton Foster just *rocks*.Definitely worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Music, lyrics still pack a pleasing punch...
Although it sure isn't the 60's anymore, mostly a good thing since the decade had many tragedies, the music from the original Broadway show is great fun. It's hard to beat this combination of energy and poignancy, with its caste of politically naive, sexually aware, substance-abusing, wounded but funny characters. A milestone of American musical theater, for good or ill, anyone who loves Broadway should own a copy of "Hair."

5-0 out of 5 stars The Age of Aquarius brought to life onstage!
One of the best shows ever to hit Broadway! I am in a theatre group in my town and the teens did "Hair" for a musical. It was my first, and I fell in love with the show and all its unique characters. The show is about a young man named Claude who is going to be drafted to Vietnam and feels confused about how to look at the situation he's in, and, with the help of his hippie friends, learns to "let the sunshine in." From Berger and his imaginary girlfriend Donna, to Jeannie and her enviormental concern, to Sheila and her protests, to Woof and Mick Jagger, to Crissy and her dream boy Frank Mills, Ragni, MacDermot, and Rado have created a one-of-a-kind cast of oddities set in NYC in the 1960s, who get by by as a tribe and live a free and meaningful life.
5-0 out of 5 stars "How dare they try to end this beauty?"
"Hair" was before my time (coming out nearly a decade before I was born) but I fell in love with this soundtrack circa 1992 (I loved the song "Donna" as I was 16 years old when I first listened to it).

Editorial Review

Andrew LloydWebber'sadaptation of T.S. Eliot's poems may not have become Broadway's longest-runningmusical without the original cast to begin the raves. Which is why every aficionado ofthis theatrical classic will tell you that this is the one you have to own (although they'llprobably tell you that you need the import Original London Cast album as well, the show having originated on London's West End and all). But this is the one with BettyBuckley singing "Memory"--the song that turned her into a star--and the two discs areappropriate for the musical that helped set off Broadway's "operatic" phase. The show isnow also available--in its entirety--as a home video, but the music still stands on its own, though some cynics have wondered why so much music only produced one hit standard.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars One Of a Kind
Saw Pippin on Broadway a couple times, and back then it was uncomparable. Fosse's staging, Vereen's performance, Tony Walton's sets and costumes and Schwartz's music were unique. It was a big old, dazzling carnival. Only wish I had seen Irene Ryan, but alas, she had passed away before I saw the show. Still, the CD preserves her performance as well as the rest of this highly imaginative and original piece. Skip the filmed version, somehow the magic got lost, while it is mildy diverting, it nonetheless, misses the impact of the live performance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Welcome Surprise
This CD was a welcome surprise. It contains all of the original 1972 cast of the hit Broadway Musical "Pippin" !The words to each song are included and 3 bonus tracks including 2 of early Michael Jackson and another of the Supremes. The whole CD had been remastered. It was a nostalgia "trip" and current enough for today!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great songs, great grooves
PIPPIN has such a unique mix of 70's soul and Broadway show biz.It works every step of the way, though, with unbelievably catchy songs, great melodies, and toe-tapping grooves. The play may occasionally run thin on story framework, but it's got the best soundtrack of any musical. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Still one of my favorite shows
Even after almost a decade, J & H stays in my CD player. The power of Cuccioli, the emotion of Eder makes this one a keeper.I disagree with those who prefer earlier versions... and the Hasselhoff CD is a joke.
2-0 out of 5 stars QUITE DISAPPOINTING WHEN COMPARED TO 1994 STUDIO CAST ALBUM

2-0 out of 5 stars Hackneyed Pastiche Larded With Obligatory Sex & Romance
I recently saw an excellent production of this deeply mediocre play. What a waste of talent and dedication.
