Songs from this album were played at my mom's second marriage 30 years ago.Yesterday, selections were played at her funeral. She wore out her album several times and finally got it on CD.The music ands songs are as relevant today as they were 30 years ago.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gotta Love Her
My brother-in-law and I had a debate the other day (I know this sounds strange but you'd have to know us to understand) about who had the best female vocals and I of course had to say Mrs. Dion, hands down...I won't even mention who he picked (it's disgraceful) but he was wrong!Anyways, this album proves once again that Celine has the most angelic and heavenly voice I've ever heard. On this album she shines in every aspect of the word with ballads like the title track 'A New Day Has Come' which is just beautiful is every way, and her cover of 'At Last' is fantastic (my wife picked that as our wedding song), and 'I Surrender' is just as wonderful, soft and silky smooth...but Celine does somthing else with this album. She switches up her 'power ballad' formula for success and adds a few popish numbers, most notably 'Right in Front of You' which is one of the best tracks here.Celine covers the theme song to Moulin Rouge 'Nature Boy' and does it better than it's been done before, and on 'Aun Existe Amor' she shines in French. All in all this is a brilliant album by a brilliant 'angelic' singer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Soft and Touching,Actually.
I thought the album was touching as it talke about her marriage with her husband, and her life.I favored the song Goodbye's(The Saddest Word) because it reflects real life.Out of 1o stars,I'd give it a 9.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm Not Sadistic!
Hello all. This review is to help you decide whether or not you want this album, right? Well. i have to tell you, you're stupid if you don't buy it. but apparently. you need more than just an insult to convince you. so....On with the show. I'll rate the songs by tracks. But First, what you have to realize about the Dresden Dolls, is that their is only 2 members. Amanda is piano/keyboard/toy piano/Vox, and Brian is percussion/drums/guitar/vox. Their sound is VERY UNIQUE, there is no other sound like them. It's a mix of Punk/Cabaret/Rock. Now, you may think that if it's only got a keyboard and drums, then it can't be rock. it can't be viscious, it can't be head-bangingly beautiful. You're wrong.
5-0 out of 5 stars And no one cares if your back is bleeding
My introduction to The Dresden Dolls came in the form of Yes, Virginia... That CD blew me away and I expected nothing less from this, their self titled release. This CD doesn't pack as hard of a punch as Virginia does but it's there, and it's as swift as can be. The lyrics aren't as controversial and comical as they are on Virginia, yet there's still room for controversy with Missed Me and Coin-Operated Boy. The one thing that is completely the same as Virginia is the fact that Amanda and Brian sound amazing playing off of each other, and Amanda's vocal adventures from song to song are fascinating to listen to.
5-0 out of 5 stars Love this CD...One of the best I've heard. From a fan.
Love this CD. I purchased it not knowing what it was about and I'm glad I did. My favorite songs are:

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly produced.
Avoid this disc! The tempos on are too slow, the instrumentals are very synthisized, and the orchestrations are less than accurate.A friend of mine bught it and asked me to work "For Good" with her, neither of us could hear where we were supposed to be and it was just SLOW.The only plus is this is the only version you can get with graphics. The Pocket Songs version is better and the most complete of all available versions. If you can find it, Priddis put out what I think is the best version on 2 discs. The tempos and orchestrations are nearly exact to the show.I think it may be discontinued as I've only been able to find a few of the Wicked songs available through Priddis on a disc with songs from the Wizard of Oz.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great karaoke CD+G
I don't understand the bad reviews this CD has gotten. The vocalists are amazing for guide vocalists and there are some live musicians featured on this album which is rare for karaoke. The arrangements are not identical to the cast album, but having heard the cast album 100's of times - it's nice to hear it sung differently. The Elphaba is particularly good.If you want to hear the album, go to the stage-stars.com website, where the tracks are posted.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost Good... But not quite
Honestly, I was a little disappointed with my CD. At times it is hard to follow without the lyrics rolling in front of you, but of course it would be without a conductor! And sometimes there are very obvious instrumental mistakes, And I HATE THE KEYBOARD!!!! But it's okay. I still sing EVERY SONG!! EVERYDAY! If you like Broadway... and you LOVE Wicked... buy this Cd... oh, and if you love to sing! It's GREAT...ish!! ... Read more

Pop this on, close your eyes, and you'll be instantly transported back to the Vegas of 1966. The Sands Hotel was still the "class joint" where Sinatra and his Rat Pack buddies partied, held court, and occasionally even performed. This priceless document (Sinatra's first official live album) captures the Chairman of the Board in performance mode, ably supported by conductor-arranger Quincy Jones and Count Basie and his Orchestra. The set list comprises 16 Sinatra classics--including "Come Fly with Me," "One for My Baby (And One More for the Road)," "It Was a Very Good Year," and "Angel Eyes"--along with two Basie instrumentals and some seriously un-P.C. stage banter. Essential. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "My body may be 50, but I'm 28!!!"
Frank Sinatra, as you might expect, gives a flawless performance recorded here at The Sands Hotel in Las Vegas in early 1966. He is ably backed up by none other than the great Count Basie and his band. The effect on the audience is unmistakable: they love the chairman, they love Basie's music; and they can't get enough and cry out for more when the act is drawing to a close.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sinatra at his best
I bought this as a gift for a drummer I work with. He has trouble with his swing feel, especially west coast style. This recording features the Basie band. No one swings like Basie. Great CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Sinatra
This is probably the best Sinatra's show, where we can feel how he was the top entertainer in usa. You can almost feel his fisical presence. The sound is great, you have the notion that you are in Las Vegas!! The surround enviroment of the show is all there, you can even hear the dinner plates been picked up from the tables! This is one of the three all-ballad albums that John Coltrane recorded in late 1962 and early 1963. Johnny Hartman was apparently Coltrane's suggestion, and his deep, dark voice meshes perfectly here with Coltrane's tenor. The material is well-chosen, including definitive readings of "My One and Only Love" and "Lush Life." McCoy Tyner fills out the chords, augmenting the harmonies and keeping the tone of these ballads respectful but not overly sentimental. All the players get to the deep structure of the songs and are not afraid to play in the most essential and elegant manner. This is beautiful jazz. Read more

This is one of Sarah Brightman's best music cds. Absolutely magnificent. Sarah's voice is so beautiful, and the songs on this cd are all really good.
5-0 out of 5 stars Cosmic Experience
When "La Luna" came out, I was very skeptical because I was deeply in love with Sarah's previous album "Eden". However, I managed to get myself a copy and "La Luna" is one my prized CDs today. Sarah's voice is beautiful, as always, and the musical arrangements are just perfect hybrids of classical and contemporary. Sarah's version of "Whiter Shade of Pale" is better than the band who first played the song.

Andrew LloydWebber'sadaptation of T.S. Eliot's poems may not have become Broadway's longest-runningmusical without the original cast to begin the raves. Which is why every aficionado ofthis theatrical classic will tell you that this is the one you have to own (although they'llprobably tell you that you need the import Original London Cast album as well, the show having originated on London's West End and all). But this is the one with BettyBuckley singing "Memory"--the song that turned her into a star--and the two discs areappropriate for the musical that helped set off Broadway's "operatic" phase. The show isnow also available--in its entirety--as a home video, but the music still stands on its own, though some cynics have wondered why so much music only produced one hit standard.Read more

Is there anything that simply screams the 1970s' most indelible pop cultural clichés--the sunny romanticism, perfect vocal hooks, feathered hair, stacked heels, and flared sateen britches--more than the Swedish pop phenomenon Abba? And while many a pundit snootily dismissed them during their prime as some sort of prefabricated aberration, their worldwide popularity peaked somewhere just south of Beatlesmania. Indeed, Abba's music was as finely tooled and crafted as anything to come from a Volvo or IKEA factory--if occasionally more economically potent. This double-disc, 37-track anthology comes neatly on the heels of Read more

Editorial Review

Band leader and lounge kingpin Louis Prima will be best be known for the classic, "Just a Gigolo," immortalized by David Lee Roth for a whole new generation of swingers. But Prima's output went much further: in his day he recorded for Capitol, acted in a movie or two, even owned a golf course. Prima's genius is infectious: lounge, swing, and Dixieland all fuse together into medleys that are fun, dance-worthy, and upbeat. Prima's duets with Keely Smith are the obvious highlights here: "That Ol' Black Magic," "Hey Boy! Hey Girl!," and "I've Got You Under My Skin" are essential Prima tracks. Sure, the cheese factor occasionally runs high, but it is a fun trip. --Read more

The most surprising track on this collection isn't hidden between blockbusters selections from the blockbuster Lloyd Webber songbook but is located in plain view right at the beginning of the CD. The previously unreleased "Probably on Thursday" was originally written as a pop song in 1967 and indeed sounds very much like a forgotten gem by an obscure 1960s pop singer. It's absolutely delightful and the last thing you'd expect from a composer best known for neoclassical bombast. Another surprise is another previously unreleased song, this one from Read more

Having long been unfairly dismissed as an ingenious Sinatra impersonator in some critical quarters, it's easy to see why Harry Connick, Jr., has been reluctant to record the sort of pop standards cover album that's become the career refuge of rock artists as diverse as Bryan Ferry and Rod Stewart. But that's exactly what the New Orleans pop revivalist has done here on a slate of familiar chestnuts from the 1950s and '60s. But there's a notable conflict at work between Connick the arranger/conductor and Harry the pop crooner. The former seems eager to infuse his charts with the sort of restless, reinventive musicality he's displayed on recent works as diverse as the stage foray Read more

The years 1975-1988 contained big successes for Barbra Streisand, though she ran through an unsteady gauntlet of disco-fied pop and pseudo-Broadway show stoppers. This collection, originally released in 1989, brings together the hits of those years--like the two Barry Gibb duets, "What Kind of Fool" and "Guilty"--in a range of production scenarios utilizing the talents of Rupert Holmes, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Phil Ramone, Dave Gruisin, and others. The two new recordings added to begin and end the package, "We're Not Makin' Love Anymore" and "Somewhere," serve as bookends of the dance and ballad style Streisand revolved around throughout her later career.
