5-0 out of 5 stars TIME REMEMBERED
This wonderful collection of standards, given superb treatment by Steve Tyrell and his A1 musicians, takes me back to the time when music and lyrics had class.A CD to add to my top-drawer collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mister Smooth!
This collection of songs has to be one of the best collection of renditions I have ever heard.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wow--One of the Finest Albums in the Last Decade
The title may seem overstated by some of you, but honestly this is such a terrific CD.Steve Tyrell was an A&R man in the record business for decades, and always had the dream of producing a record of standards. This is it, and a more delightful blend of jazz, vocals and arrangement you will not find.Steve's voice is certainly not the crooner type a'la Frank Sinatra, but has a gravely tone that quickly grows on you.Of all his CD's this one is the best.If you come out to LA, check the Catalina Bar and Grill because he performs there quite frequently and I have seen Burt Bacharach and Rod Stewart in the audience. ... I haven't seen the show, but I certainly hope it works better on stage with visuals than it does listening to this tepid CD. Not a memorable note of music in the entire score.

4-0 out of 5 stars Such an awesome musical, but it wasn't the cast I saw, but a great soundtrack!
I loved this musical when I went to see it in late March of 2006. But unforutunately the only reason why I didn't give this 5 stars is because this soundtrack doesn't have exactly what I saw on stage, and I loved that better. This is an awesome soundtrack though.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good old dirty rotten fun
At first, I borrowed this from the library because I love Norbert Leo Butz. He was very good in Wicked, but the part of Freddy Benson seems made for him. I can't wait to see the show; the entire cast is amazing. Some of my favorite tracks:

2-0 out of 5 stars What a rip...
Yeah, the music is good (excepting the crappy "Godfather" remake), but this is a little over 60 minutes of music released on two CDs, for no good reason other than to charge the unwitting consumer more money. You could fit the entire collection on one disc, and have room for 8 more songs (they're saving those for "Mob Hits 2", ripping you off at store near you!). There are better compilations out there... and better deals.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Guilty Pleasure...
You know, I can remember the first time I hear "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight," and it was when I went to visit a family down in Livingston, on a farm, in California. The older son was singing one of the songs. The one I mention above.I remember the melody and the words were so inviting. And this was a "non-singer" attracting me to the song.Imagine how I felt when I finally heard the song.
4-0 out of 5 stars Sit back and enjoy.
England Dan and John Ford Coley did themselves proud with this collection. The songs are enjoyable and will bring the listener hours of pleasure as you listen over and over again.Turn the lights down low and listen with someone special.

4-0 out of 5 stars Poor sound mars this otherwise fine recording
If you can get past that flat "boxy" Warner Bros soundstage sound, this is a highly enjoyable performance.
3-0 out of 5 stars Trouble in River City
The album is quite faithful to the film but loses some of the effect since you cannot see the beautiful Shirley Jones or the engaging Robert Preston. The voices however are true and many of the songs are classics. The album is well worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Film Musical
They got it exactly right when they transferred The Music Man to the screen. One can quibble about minor aspects, Shirley Jones replacing Barbara Cook for example, and Buddy Hackett? First of all while I love Cook, Shirley Jones fits the role beautifully and certainly can sing it. Hackett actually comes of pretty well, no Borscht Belt humor there. The rest of the cast are perfect. And Robert Preston, well, this is film history, one of a handful of truly great musical comedy roles, performed magnificently!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful
The music takes a little bit to grow on you, but boy, does it!It's wonderful, charming, romantic, funny--just like the play itself.I loved almost every song and I was really impressed with "Long As I'm Here With You"-- I thought it was an old song written back in the twenties, because it so sounded like one. The cast is absolutely energetic and endearing, and Sutton Foster just *rocks*.Definitely worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars YOU WILL LOVE IT
If you like musicals, you will NOT REGRET purchasing this musical soundtrack. JUST DO IT. It's so great, you will be listening to it forever. I also saw the show at the Kennedy Center in D.C. and it's one of the best I've ever seen. (And I've seen A LOT.)

What is there left to say about this musical, deservedly one of the most famous in the canon? Created by what lyricist Stephen Sondheim described as "a unique concatenation of people" (Leonard Bernstein, Sondheim, Arthur Laurents, Jerome Robbins), the show remains as explosively vibrant, daring, and modern as it was decades ago. Bernstein integrated Latin percussion and jazz into his electrifying score, dazzlingly translating New York's unique vitality into a musical idiom. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Problem With Disc?
I have noticed on the Rumble Track - at the 12/13 s mark, what appears to bea high pitched click - Might have to turn up the volume to hear clearly. Is this a manufacturing defect that was never rectified

4-0 out of 5 stars Still Going Strong After All These Years
First of all, I bought the CD of WSS from BMG not sure if it was the Broadway or Movie cast since they didn't include the cast or a list of the tracks. I love the songs in this musical, from the camaraderie of Jet Song to the romantic Tonight, to the hilarious Gee, Officer Krupke, to the sad Finale. I have always compared the feeling of Tonight to We Kiss in the Shadows from The King and I. Still, however wonderfully these performers sound, I don't feel Chita Rivera's America can touch the vibrancy of Rita Moreno. I also preferred the way the guys and gals traded verses in the movie version of America, like when Bernardo's listing of unpleasant things in America was countered by Anita's "You forget I'M in America!" I never saw the play so I was puzzled at hearing I Feel Pretty so late on the disk, Gee, Officer Krupke sung after, not before, the rumble, and Cool sung before rather than after the same rumble. Good as the Broadway cast sounds, I still much prefer the movie soundtrack.
4-0 out of 5 stars Better than the Movie
To anyone considering buying the music of West Side Story, I would strongly recommend the original Broadway Cast over the movie sound track.

Editorial Review

As its title indicate, this CD sees popular vocalist Steve Tyrell pay tribute to the Sinatra songbook, and pretty much every track is a famous nugget closely identified with the Chairman of the Board. That Tyrell is no Sinatra is a given, but the combination of his slightly hammy delivery and old-school arrangements makes this perfect bourbon and leather-armchair music--familiar and comfortable. Three of the songs ("Fly Me to the Moon," "The One I Love Belongs to Somebody Else" and "Something Stupid") reproduce the original orchestrations--and really, how can you go wrong with those?--while the others boast cushy new ones by Bob Mann, Alan Broadbent or Count Basie arranger Sammy Nestico. In his press notes, Tyrell remarks that "Nice and Easy" features "the most modern of all the arrangements on the album," but fear not: It sounds exactly like the others, and modernity here only means extra-velvety strings and super-relaxed horns. Echoing the pairing of Frank and Nancy Sinatra on the original, Tyrell sings "Something Stupid" with his daughter Lauryn, though she seems to be pushed behind in the mix and is barely audible. But hey, Frank didn't like sharing the spotlight either! Read more

A great CD! However, it cannot compete with the hits from "FLASHDANCE".

5-0 out of 5 stars Almost? It IS Paradise
This has got to be one of the #1 best all around soundtracks of all time. There is not one throw away track; there isn't one song I have to skip. This movie was such a huge turning point for me as a child, I begged my mom to let me take dance classes other than ballet and she let me take a freeform dance class and I was obsessed with the song "dancing in the sheets" so that was my song of choice, I tore those mats up.

Originally released in 1971, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory was an imaginative film that drew as much inspiration from the leftover vibes (and drugs) of the psychedelic '60s as it did from Roald Dahl's fanciful children's book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. If you doubt it, check out this special 25th anniversary edition of the original soundtrack album, which features lyrics and music by Anthony Newley, who was a major influence on David Bowie and whose work on this film has clearly inspired '90s rockers from Veruca Salt (who took their name from the spoiled rich girl) to the Butthole Surfers (who could easily cover the sinister, trippy "Wondrous Boat Ride". C'mon, everybody, let's sing: "Oompa loompa/Doomp-ity-do/I've got another lesson for you...." Read more

One of the lovliest songs ever made is "Pure Imagination". I bought the soundtrack along with the original movie and my grandkids love it. "Candy Man" is also on this soundtrack, but only Sammy Davis, Jr. could really make it the wonderful song really is. I recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites
I loved this film as a child and have continued to as an adult. As a voice teacher I have taught most of this score to my younger songs. The songs are classic. I used to wish I could go to his garden! I am a huge fan of Gene Wilder's performance in this.

Try to forget the fact that Bing Crosby probably never had to record another song in his life after he immortalized "White Christmas." If you can do that, you'll find plenty more to like in this crooning Christmas collection. There's the Romantic Bing, charming the tinsel right off the tree with "The Christmas Song," and that cure for cabin fever, "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" There's the Reverent Bing, solemnly singing "Adeste Fideles." And of course, there's Bing the Showman, belting out "Good King Wenceslas" with a bit of that ole vaudeville shine. But no matter what you're told, "White Christmas" will be the number one reason for sticking this one in your stocking. And who can blame you? It's as timeless now as it was way back when. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best You'll See from Sarah
This CD is - wow!I have so much to say about it and so little time! This album features three pieces from "The Phantom of the Opera" - Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again, The Music of the Night, and The Phantom of the Opera theme. They're all beautiful. The second piece on the album is "Unexpected Song".It has beautiful octaves and orchastrations.Chanson d'Efance is an amazing French piece with vibrato - and then some.I forgot to mention that there is another piece from The Phantom of the Opera - All I Ask of You - except that the song is not sung by the original cast from the musical. The next few pieces are fairly decent, until you get to Memory from Cats.WOW - is it spectacular! Then we get to two other pieces from Cats - Gus: The Theater Cat and Macavity: The Mystery Cat.Gus is a song that just tells about a cat and his history.A man speaks the lines that Gus would say in the actual musical - and it makes the song interesting.Macavity is AWESOME!I know that I said that I didn't prefer this song for Brightman on her album "Surrender". I finally listened to it more carefully, and found that it's really interesting to listen to!My favorite song on the whole entire album - however - has to be "Tell Me on a Sunday".Beautiful lyrics, orchestrations, and overall spectacular voice talent ties the whole song together.Pie Jesu is a fairly nice piece from both Brightman and Paul Miles-Kingston - the 16 year old boy soprano. His voice is pure and straight with minimal vibrato. However, Brightman's voice shows a little bit TOO much vibrato!Overally, it's a good piece from Andrew Lloyd Webber's Requium.THIS CD IS AMAZING!If you love Sarah from the Phantom of the Opera, then this collection of Lloyd Webber's work is just for you.

This is the third copy of this I've purchased. I wear them out listening to them. Awesome, Awesome music. Sarah's range and depth is so powerful!

1-0 out of 5 stars Love makes blind, but....... deaf as well???
Andrew Lloyd Webber's music is excellent, but here it's wrapped up in a voice that doesn't do the music any justice at all. There are so many great sopranos out there, but perhaps he chose his wife out of duty or like I suggested before, because love makes deaf as well as blind....?

A year after his slickly produced recording debut launched him on a meteoric course to stardom, this combo CD/DVD set chronicles Michael Buble's crowd-pleasing live performances before amphitheater-sized crowds on a triumphant national tour. The audio portion kicks off with pair of new studio recordings again reinforce the 20-something Canadian heartthrob's 1950s-something artistic tack with mixed results: "Nice 'n' Easy" has a Sinatra-faithful jazzy swing; the overproduced, somnambulistic "Can't Help Falling in Love" evokes Perry Como more than Elvis. The remainder of the audio CD is comprised mostly of live versions of songs from Buble's debut, with his takes of "My Funny Valentine," "Fever," Van Morrison's "Moondance" and "Mack the Knife" again suggesting that Buble has an ear cocked wisely towards the Bobby Darin oeuvre. But with the notable exception of three elegant live-in-studio performances culled from Read more

Editorial Review

It's nice to see Bette Midler putting her spin on an American classic after less-than-convincing detours through adult-contemporary cheese. This tribute focuses on Rosemary Clooney in the early to mid-1950s--so we don't get any of the fabulous Nelson Riddle material--but it's a fairly strong offering. It was produced and arranged by Midler's old musical director, Barry Manilow--who actually dueted with Clooney on a couple of songs in the 1990s and here replaces Bing Crosby on the duet "On a Slow Boat to China." Mostly, the CD is about hits: "Hey There" and "White Christmas" are done in straightforward manner, while Linda Ronstadt fills in for Rosemary's actual sister Betty on a slinky version of "Sisters." Happily, Midler plays "Come On-A My House" down instead of up (the old Bette would have milked its comic aspect) but the singer lets loose on "Mambo Italiano." That's pretty much the only time the Divine Miss M peeks out from behind Clooney's elegant persona, and it's a delight. Read more

Rosemary Clooney had some beautiful songs that needed to be shared with the younger generations. And who else but Bette could do them with such passion! This is a treasured CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars dreamgirls (1982 original b'way cast)
it is a great piece of work and haven't seen anything that came close to it yet, to date. the cd put you back as if you are still watching the live preformance back in '82.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected...
I was disappointed with this CD.If you're looking for ALL the music from the show, this is NOT the CD you want.Get the concert version.6 or 7 of the songs aren't even on the CD!However, some of the vocals on this CD were a lot better than those on the concert version.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Cast Recording.
This is one of the Best Cast Recordings EVER! You definately get a feel of the actual show by listening to this CD. Jennifer Holliday deserved two Tony Awards for "And I Am Telling You...." alone. ... Read more

Editorial Review

A romantic's collection if ever there was one, this cachet of songs graced the equally heart-tugging film. King of the Croon and Swoon, Nat King Cole's "Stardust" is probably the most obvious of the young lovers' themes here. Louis Armstrong and Jimmy Durante, ordinarily not the most romantic of sorts, prove themselves worthy contenders with "A Kiss to Build a Dream On" and "As Time Goes By," respectively. "In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning" gets an elegantly simple treatment from Carly Simon, and Tammy Wynette's "Stand by Your Man" confirms her status as the late, great Queen of Country. The only disappointments with this collection are the absence of heart-wrenching numbers by Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, or even Johnny Mathis; and the inclusion of the horrendous rendition of "When I Fall in Love" by the over-rated Celine Dion with Clive Griffin. --Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Possibly the best movie soundtrack of all time.
I absolutely love this soundtrack. My parents and I watched "Sleepless in Seattle" as the in-flight movie on the way to America and the movie always congures up such warm memories for me. We bought the soundtrack after coming back home and it has become almost like a lullaby to me. We have played the CD so often it actually wore out. Such timeless, soothing music. I think it is one of the best movie soundtracks of all movie. All other versions of any of the songs on the soundtrack just don't compare. I definately recommend this soundtrack to all.

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic soundtrack for a classic romance.
This is one of the few album/soundtracks, in which I never skip a song, because each one is good and perfect. Each song's lyrics describes the relantionship perfect, about two people who don't meet intill the very end. Each song talk about the longing of each other and love. " As time goes by" by Jimmy Durante is pretty good and he puts his print on the famous song. " Stardust" by Nat King Cole is very romantic, and tells of two people who long to be together. " A wink and a smile" by Harry Conick Jr. tells of two people are meant for each other ( just like the main characters of the movie ). The theme to " An affair to remeber" is here, and is of course what the movie ( sleepless in seattle ) makes reference to! It's a gem of an album, and is romantic as the movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Moonlight And Love Songs Are Never Out Of Date"
"You must remember this

5-0 out of 5 stars Buble is the Current King of Swing
I absolutly adore Michael - he is the top performer of our current decade. Sinatra ruled and now it's Buble's turn! Talented just doesn't cut it when referring to Michael.Just a suggestion - perhaps you can perform a duet with Renee Olstead...your styles are complimentary to one another and I will purchase a ton of your duet CD's!!!! Love you, Michael and thanks for providing me with the milleniums newest and brightest talent!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Kings of Swing
Since I have loved everything that Michael Buble has done, I was intrigued to order one with him & Frank Sinatra performing. His style & Sinatra's are so similar.I love the CD & confess that I am enjoying Buble's songs even more than the one & only Sinatra!
