4-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Music
Prior to purchasing this album, I had heard only one song before of Julio Iglesias and that was his duet, To All The Girls That I've Loved Before. This album has some great songs on it with one song that absolutely blew me away.It is a duet (Feelings) with a woman, which was recorded in concert, who has the most pure and beautiful voice that I have ever heard, be it man or woman. I don't know who it is as her name isn't listed, on the album information, and my internet searches have been without luck. The price for the album is worth it for that one song, in my opinion. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars He's come a long way baby.....
Listening to this early Cullum recording gives you a timeline for the expression of his talents. You can discern his emerging style in several of the songs, but his youth and inexperience are glaring. The promise of more to come is certainly there, and there is no doubt that you are listening to an exceptional person. When you follow with Catching Tales, it is astounding to witness the explosion that has occurred in the intervening 4 years. I don't know where he will go from here, but this recording gives the listener an historical perspective on where Cullum has come from.

Editorial Review

This 1960 recording was a landmark album in John Coltrane's career, the first to introduce his quartet with pianist McCoy Tyner and drummer Elvin Jones and the first release on which he played soprano saxophone. It also provided him with a signature hit, as his new group conception came together wonderfully on the title track. It's an extended modal reworking in 6/4 time that brought the hypnotic pulsating quality of Indian music into jazz for the first time, with Coltrane's soprano wailing over the oscillating piano chords and pulsing drums. The unusual up-tempo version of Gershwin's "Summertime" is a heated example of Coltrane's "sheets of sound" approach to conventional changes, while "But Not for Me" receives a radical harmonic makeover. This is an excellent introduction to Coltrane's work. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars JOHN COLTRANE -MY FAVORITE THINGS
A classic, I'm happy to have in my collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfection in sound
The title track, "My Favorite Things" is a lovely musical journey into the mind of a master. With Coltrane re-working the theme from The Sound of Music and McCoy Tyner lending audible gold on the keys, the song is a gem.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Coltrane in conventional terms
Coltrane, Davis, Tyner, and Jones went into the studio for a week and came out with material for three albums."My Favorite Things" is the standards album."Coltrane's Sound" is the originals album (pretty good), and "Coltrane Plays The Blues" is the blues album.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this!
Godspell was the foundation of my family. My parents met in a play of Godspell. They had the movie version, and we watched it so much. We even bought the soundtrack to the film and took it with us on vacation. We all knew all the songs and sung along. We all have pretty good singing voices, so it was a lot of fun! I still get choked up when I hear "On The Willows"...

5-0 out of 5 stars I find it unbelieveable
That this was released in March of 1973.I graduated from High School in June 1973 but swear I saw this movie when I was 15, in 1971.
4-0 out of 5 stars GodSpell
My family and I enjoy the CD, because in church I sing the song, Day by Day, a lot, so we enjoy listening to that song a lot.

5-0 out of 5 stars my favorite princess cd
i love this cd!my dad got it for me for my birthday3 years ago and i still love it

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for a Princess
I bought this cd for my daughter's 3rd birthday. She LOVES it! She asks me to play it every day and we both sing along to all of the songs. She has even picked up on the songs that she didn't know before she received it. I love it because now she is more interested in listening to the cd and dancing with me in the house than watching a video. In quiet times, she likes to sit on my lap and look at the pictures in the liner notes. The recordings are beautiful, it is the one children's cd that I can listen to over and over. If you have a little girl who loves princesses, this is definitely worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD!
I'm Also 18 and about to graduate HS and this is still one of my favorite cds! I actually bought this cd about 3 years ago (a different cover-same cd) and LOVED IT! I didn't give "Home" a chance at first but one day I listened to it and it is probably one of my all time favorite songs! I love broadway and I sing and its a very challenging song to sing! Susan Egan has a gorgeous voice! And none more gorgeous than Jodi Benson (Ariel!). My point is this is a great cd, don't ignore it becuase you don't know all the songs...you'll grow to love them as much as the favorites! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars finally the ultimate olivia newton john cd
this is by far the BEST olivia newton john cd available on the market.the 2 disc cd contains ALL her hits incl her hard to find 1970 hit " if not for you "( her first single ) its just a great cd & her voice is so lovely & she still looks great.this cd is well worth the money.im buying another one for my sister in colo.she will love it just like i do.

5-0 out of 5 stars Definately worth its weight in GOLD!!
This cd collection by Olivia Newton-John is definately worth its weight in GOLD!! Is by far her best yet! I personally prefer disc 1. As I am a little partial to her older songs of the 70's. "LET ME BE THERE" "IF YOU LOVE ME (Let me know)" "HAVE YOU EVER BEEN MELLOW" "PLEASE Mr. PLEASE" (Don't play B-17,) "DON'T STOP BELIEVIN" and "EVERY FACE TELLS A STORY." If you're looking for sadness, hope, love, happiness and heartache.. Then "GOLD" is the cd for you! This cd collection is every bit as MAGICal,and PHYSICAL. It will SUDDENLY give you a HEART ATTACK, cause you to be TIED UP, and have you LIVIN' IN DESPERATE TIMES. It will take you back to the 1950's with I HONESTLY LOVE YOU, HOPELESSLY DEVOTED TO YOU, SUMMER NIGHTS, YOU'RE THE ONE THAT I WANT, and cause you to have a GREASE MEGAMIX meltdown. All that's left to say is I HONESTLY LOVE this cd! Olivia Newton-John is a blue-ribbon songstress. If you are a true O.N.J. fan or a newcomer to her music, you will not be disappointed!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Female Vocalists Ever!!!
I heard Olivia Newton-John's song 'Xanadu' on the radio and I thought: 'That is such a great song'. I think 'Xanadu' is one of her best songs. This music is like ABBA but even better. It has pop music but as well as country music in it. Olivia is such a great vocalist too and the songs are unique. 'If Not for You' is a great opener. At first, it reminds me of Bonnie Tyler or Dolly Parton. There's many great songs: 'Let Me Be There', 'I Honestly Love You', 'Have You Ever Been Mellow?', 'Please Mr. Please', 'Every Face Tells a Story', 'Totally Hot'...and there's still one CD more. It is great to be a chronological collection. The CD is a great one too... 'Xanadu', 'Magic', 'Physical', 'Soul Kiss', Can't We Talk It Over In Bed', 'The Rumour', 'Deeper Than a River" just to name my favourites. I think quite disturbing that 'Grease Mega-Mix'...I think the songs are alright but not the best Olivia has made. This album has much to give for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Music, lyrics still pack a pleasing punch...
Although it sure isn't the 60's anymore, mostly a good thing since the decade had many tragedies, the music from the original Broadway show is great fun. It's hard to beat this combination of energy and poignancy, with its caste of politically naive, sexually aware, substance-abusing, wounded but funny characters. A milestone of American musical theater, for good or ill, anyone who loves Broadway should own a copy of "Hair."

5-0 out of 5 stars The Age of Aquarius brought to life onstage!
One of the best shows ever to hit Broadway! I am in a theatre group in my town and the teens did "Hair" for a musical. It was my first, and I fell in love with the show and all its unique characters. The show is about a young man named Claude who is going to be drafted to Vietnam and feels confused about how to look at the situation he's in, and, with the help of his hippie friends, learns to "let the sunshine in." From Berger and his imaginary girlfriend Donna, to Jeannie and her enviormental concern, to Sheila and her protests, to Woof and Mick Jagger, to Crissy and her dream boy Frank Mills, Ragni, MacDermot, and Rado have created a one-of-a-kind cast of oddities set in NYC in the 1960s, who get by by as a tribe and live a free and meaningful life.
5-0 out of 5 stars "How dare they try to end this beauty?"
"Hair" was before my time (coming out nearly a decade before I was born) but I fell in love with this soundtrack circa 1992 (I loved the song "Donna" as I was 16 years old when I first listened to it).

Editorial Review

This is an excellent collection of many of the high points of the Manhattan Transfer's first decade, demonstrating both their reach and their grasp as they draw material from swing, modern jazz, and doo-wop into their own distinctive style. There's a tongue-in-cheek cool that connects the swing of Erskine Hawkins's "Tuxedo Junction" to the elemental girl-group harmonies of "Boy from New York City" and the TV themes like "Route 66" and the variations on the "Twilight Zone." More traditional jazz skills, though, are apparent in their renditions of some Jon Hendricks vocal classics. Composer Jimmy Giuffre plays saxophone on their version of his "Four Brothers," a key theme for bandleader Woody Herman, while there are also stellar renditions of Weather Report's "Birdland" and the standard "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square."It's an entertaining collection by a group that's never let itself be confined by the expected. --Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Charles, Je t'adore
You can see from the title I am a devoted Aznavour fan and have been for 40 years.I have attended several of his performances and even met him once briefly. He is an extraordinary singer/songwriter and performer. He is 81 years old now and although he still records, he doesn't tour much outside France as he used to.He has, however, made a number of DVDs.Unfortunately, they have only been released in PAL format.I have so many Aznavour recordings. I bought this because it has a nice compilation for CD but it is by no means definitive. It's interesting, because I also have the Spanish version of this CD, "Sus Mas Grandes Exitos" which has the same cover, but a slightly different mix of songs. The French version omits "Que C'est Triste Venise" and "Mourir D'Amour,"two of my favorite songs, but they are included on the Spanish. There are so many more than 20 songs which I consider Aznavour classics, that it would take many more CDs to contain. That said, I highly recommend this CD for both the diehard fan and the casual listener. It's a wonderful example of the work of this extraordinary man.He has never made a bad recording.

5-0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING
You can take Edith Piaf, Gilbert Becaud, Yves Montand and put them together and don't even come close to Aznavour.Had the distinct pleasure of seeing him at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, as well as, the Olympia Theater in Paris, France, and other venues throughout Europe.Aznavour is the quintessence of the interpreter of songs (ala Sinatra and Ella), as well as, a most prolific writer of songs in the realm of Jimmy Webb, Gershwin, etc.His emotions and sentivities are eveident in EVERY performance that I have had the pleasure to witness.NONE BETTER!!!!!In addition, these traits are evident in very recording available by him.BRAVO!!! BRAVO!!! BRAVO!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Aznavour Magic
Although I have been researching my family genealogy and we're supposed to have "french" connections, I've not found them. My mother turned me on to Mireille Mathieu when I was a teenager and I thought she was great but never bought anything. When she told me about this man, some twenty years later, I thought I'd check it out. I am SO glad I did. What a treasure for france and everyone with taste for good music. He could be related to Mireille, they have the same phrasing when singing. I have no idea what the heck he's singing about but - I don't care. Like the commercial for Calgone, he just takes me away! And i don't care for male singers.I hope he never stops releasing CD's. ... Read more

A true musical theater classic.Wonderful melodies that will last for years to come.
5-0 out of 5 stars "I Have Dreamed"
As an avid collector of Broadway Cast Recordings and Original Soundtracks I have dreamed for years for complete recordings (including underscoring) of soundtracks to film versions of Broadway musicals. The one advantage to soundtrack recordings of film versions of Broadway musicals is access to large studio orchestras and Hollywood's best arrangers and orchestrators. The most satisfying result of this for me is the sound of each production number. What the large studio orchestra does is mirror the visual action of the large (or small) production number. The original LP versions of these soundtracks rarely included the orchestral tracks due to space limitations.I cite one example to illustrate this point though there are many others. That example is the dance preceding the barn raising in the soundtrack to "Seven Brides For Seven Brothers" included on the wonderful Rhino disc. This CD of "The King & I", along with other Angel releases, "Carousel" and "Oklahoma!" also feature generous portions of orchestral tracks. For this reason alone (though there are others)this CD is a must for any R & H fan. ... After reading Urinetown (never having seen it), I wondered what on earth it sounded like. Most of the book is just lyrics, and I had no idea what they sounded like. When I finally listened to the music, I found an incredibly complex, catchy, and moving CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Salty and Sexy, Subtle and Satisfying
Lizz Wright has a new fan--ME! Wright is the perfect blend of my favorite artists. I thought it was impossible to have the best of Me'Shell N'degeOcello, Cassandra Wilson, Tracy Chapman in one voice. But DAMN! Wright is original in her flow and even-tempered in her presentation. Her lyrics make everything in me move and when I listen to her, I cannot stop writing, I cannot stop crying for the real places her work lands in my spirit, in my life space. Poetic silk. This CD is a must-have if you enjoy any of the artists I mentioned, if you enjoy k d lang, Nat "King" Cole, silk and spice, smooth as the sun dips into the ocean at night. I can't wait to get her other releases. Go on, Sister Lizz. You doin' it right!

5-0 out of 5 stars Rarely is every song on a CD pleasing...
Every song touches the heart and moves the soul.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dreaming Wide Awake - 4.5 stars
The first review that appears by "Moved by Music" is right on the money with respect to the sound comparison between this, Lizz's second disc & Norah Jones' first.I was hesitant to make such a comparison because I truly feel that on a pure jazz vocalist level, Lizz blows Norah away. Also I did not like the comparisons between SALT & COME AWAY WITH ME because SALT was more of a jazz oriented creation while CAWM was definitely more smooth jazz/pop oriented.

Editorial Review

If Ricky Martin is the party boy of Latin crossover pop, Enrique Iglesias is more a romantic traditionalist in the mold of dad Julio. Even his uptempo, lust-driven tunes, like this album's "Love 4 Fun" and "One Night Stand," are hardly the frantic sweatfests Martin provides. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST
Enrique is my best male singer.. i love listening to any of his songs but my best is "Love for fun"..my friends thinks his style is sissy but i think he's music is unique..i never get tired of listening to his music day and night..'Don't turn off the lights" and "Escape" reminds me a lot of my days at an all-girls boarding school..we used to have social gatherings with a boys college and these two songs used to play at the dance programme..and we used to really love dancing to them...well, unfortunately, i don't really know the words to some of the songs..I'm kinda from a developing country and would love to know where i can get lyrics for enrique's songs... ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Sound
This album is very good but her first "oldies" with the N.R. orchestra still remains my favorite.

4-0 out of 5 stars You Take This In the Car, To Remind You Why You Cuddle To Her At Home
Astrud Gilberto may be the most romantic singer Brazil has ever yielded up. She's certainly the most pleasing to hear, whether the setting is a small group or an orchestra, whether it's pure bossa or jazz-inclining pop with the subtle embellishments of her native country. Put her in front of a Stan Getz quartet, a Gil Evans orchestra, a Walter Wanderley organ trio, or even a James Last ensemble, and she evokes a faraway beach that is at once as accessible as the sun and as elusive as the perfect wave. Which is just about what she has been herself in her musical personality---at the moment you think she has reached forth to touch you, she fades back and away at the moment you reach forth to touch her back, as if the yearning she so often exposes requires so much more profound touch to satisfy that you envy without shame the one who wins her love.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Dino Christmas CD to own
I own just about every Dino/Rat Pack Christmas album they have, and I think this is the best Dean one to get. The sound quality is great, it has all the songs in one place (plus alternate versions), quotes in the liner notes, and the picture on the cover and the one inside aren't too bad, either ;) .

5-0 out of 5 stars Nostalgic masterpiece!
Whenever I think about Christmas, I inevitably began to recollect of my childhood and the fond Christmas memories that go along with it.This album, along with those by Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra and Andy Williams takes me back to those simple days when Christmas meant family and waking mom and dad up at 5AM to see if Santa came yet. It's like the smell of chlorine at the swimming pool every summer....it's simply memory evoking..i love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars As it had to be done...
For years, I wondered, why there was no real Holiday album by Dean Martin: The answer is that simple: Dino cut two Christmas albums, one for Capitol and one for Reprise, but each of them contained only a bunch of Christmas-related selections. So, if you really want to get a Holiday album by DM, get this one!
