5-0 out of 5 stars Indians play super blues - also live!
I didn't know about Indigenous before I heard them on Amazon.
1-0 out of 5 stars Overrated boring performance.
I have tried several times to like this band. I have seen their live DVD and it is very similar to this CD. The vocals are weak and hardly understandable, every song sounds like the last one. There are absolutely NO dynamics in their music and anyone who thinks this guitarist is something special is either NOT a guitarist, or a beginner at best. They also have no stage presence, just looking like they're going thru the motions. There's too much great blues out there to be wasting your time with this.

3-0 out of 5 stars Blues, blues, blues
What can I say, Bobby Blue Bland and BB King. messin' around on stage. A great interplay of two great bluesmen just having fun.
5-0 out of 5 stars two alltime greats are better than one
Is there anything better than B.B. King?Only when he's with Bobby "Blue" Bland.Great.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Intimate Evening With The King... Mr. B.B. King
If you enjoy the live blues scene, you'll love this piece. You can almost feel the ambiance of a dimly lit, smokey blues club. Poor yourself a mellow bourbon, light up a fine cigar and enoy a laid back evening with the legendary blues of Mr. B.B. King & Bobby Blue Bland. The bond of these two long time friends is obvious in their free-flowing dialog and makes for a comfortable evening of easy listening. This release has been somewhat overlooked throughout the years..... share it with your friends. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Nobody plays rockin' blues with more heads-down authority than the current edition of the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Still led by singer-harmonica ace Kim Wilson, whose prowess on the instrument marks him as one of its all-time greats, the band surges through this February 2000 concert at full throttle. Which means the rhythm section keeps a flat-four chug percolating, pianist-organist Gene Taylor makes like Johnny Johnson on steroids, and Kid Ramos dishes out rhythm 'n' leads with reverb-drenched efficiency, while Wilson keeps his pushy baritone thundering above it all. 5-0 out of 5 stars Bluez Lover
This CD is a perfect example of Texas blues. It's as close to hearing them lived ( as I did last week) as possible.I recommend it to anyone who likes good old fashioned American music. M

4-0 out of 5 stars T-Bird blast
The California Geoseismic Institute must have sworn The Big Quake had hit LA when these guys hit the stage and let loose on "The Things I Used to Do."David "Kid" Ramos romps-there's no better word-on guitar behind the bulldozer drumwork of Steve Hodges, Willie Campbell's relentless bass, and Gene Taylor's cracking piano. However, it's Kim's love of singing that makes him the perfect lead vocalist:he can hold a phrase in his voice like Aretha Franklin until the dials jump on their own (check it out on the aforementioned "Things"), and there's that great baritone barrel chest to support it.Even better, when he grabs the harmonica and starts to pump, it literally buzzes like a giant barber's electric shears.Whooo, you can feel it right down to your shoes! This is what a house party should look and sound like.

4-0 out of 5 stars Big T-Birds Sound Live!!
In this February 2000 concert disc, the Fabulous Thunderbirds eschew the raw rocking sound that made their early records sound so vital for a full band sound complete with horns and (on the closing number) female background singers. Kim Wilson, like BB King before him, obviously sees that many concertgoers want a fuller sound when listening to their music live and the additional musicians certainly provide that sound. The horns in particular have the effect of taking some of the covers, such as "Wrap It Up" and "Things I Used to Do," away from pure blues and back to the rhythm and blues roots they originated from. Kim Wilson's vocals on these tracks are fabulous, and Kid Ramos plays some stinging guitar as well. Old favorites "Tuff Enuff" and "She's Tuff" sound tougher and finer than ever, while "My Babe" takes on the full-throttle rocking power of a high speed locomotive. Fans of Kim Wilson's harmonica playing may feel a little shortchanged; "Early Every Morning" is the only harp showcase on the album, with Wilson blowing like a maniac. A glorious, if all too brief, moment of solo improvisation. Overall, the band is tight, the numbers are together, and the music features many rockable, danceable moments, even though Live, like most such discs, cannot replicate the excitement of an in-person appearance. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Albert Collins live
I am a big fan of Albert's guitar playing and I bought this CD hoping that his last material before his death would be good to have and listen to. I am not disappointed with Albert's playing but the recording quality is woeful and it is not worth paying the money for unless you have to have all Albert's recordings, his other live material is much better. Sorry but it's simply not up to scratch for a 1990's recording

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Live Blues
This is one of my favorite recordings from one of my favorite guitarists. If you want to play in Texas, you have to play music that people can dance to.Cowboys, oil workers, black folks and Mexican Americans all love to dance in Texas and expect to hear dancin' music when they go out to clubs. This influence is heard in most of the works of Mr. Collins, a Texas native, and especially in this CD.
4-0 out of 5 stars Fine latter-day Collins
These performances were recorded shortly before Collins' death in late 1993, but rather than sounding tired, they offer proof that the "Master of the Telecaster" remained a commanding stage presence until the end.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BB King at his best!
I have been listening to this record for over 25 years, BB:s tone on this record still strikes me as it did the first time I heard it. One of BB:s outro:s in one of the medleys on this record is a fantastic value for the price paid for this alone. You can hear a young BB play really loud and strong making his amp sing in fantastic overtones on this one, not that nice and sweet studio tone. The two artists, BB and Bobby, works very well together and if their first record together was Bobbys, this is definitely BB:s.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Combination
BB on Lucille and Bobby on vocals is a great combination. The two compliment eachother's talents.
4-0 out of 5 stars Fine, but not as good as their first
This is a reprise of the wonderfully successful first album these two did together. It is worth having not only for their obvious enjoyment working together, but for the terrific job in "Let The Good Times Roll". Read more

Editorial Review

Louisiana-born Lonnie Brooks is an underrated blues great, capable of dishing out swamp-rock, bittersweet melodies, and fire- breathing rave-ups. The pyrotechnics won out in this 1987 live performance, recorded at B.L.U.E.S. Etcetera on his adopted home turf, Chicago. Brooks's "Two-Headed Man" and his take on Freddie King's "Hideaway"--which bookend the CD--find him plying slick, screaming string-bends and gutsy vocals that mix back-road gravel with down-home charm. It's the latter that makes numbers like "Got Me By the Tail" and "Eyeballin'" such colorful, appealing stories. They reveal Lonnie's still-vital country roots. At times the band plays with the velocity--and ferocity--of a guided missile. But Brooks is always at the controls. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars If Wolfman Jack sang for CCR you w/have Omar & The Howlers..
If Wolfman Jack sang for CCR you would have Omar & The Howlers. This concert was recorded in 1991 in Amsterdam. It seems that Omar is much more popular in Europe then he is here. Too bad because this is great Texas style rock n roll. It's a solid concert and the strongest tracks are "Mississippi Hoo Doo" which sounds an awful lot like "Run through the Jungle", and they stay in the CCR mode with a cover of John Fogerty's "Born on the Bayou". The rest of the concert is all original and includes their hit "Hard Times in the Land of Plenty" and some great blues guitar in a song called "Lee Anne".
5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the real thing, Omar truly is the man.
In the mid-80's I caught Omar and his Howlers at the Paramount in Seattle. This was before we were assimilated by California and now the east coast. In those days it wasn't real easy to get us fired up at a show, no matterthe artist. Well, to a four fifths house Omar and the boy's showed littleor no mercy. About half way through I was aware that I hadn't even sat downyet, looked around and people were litterally standing in their chairs, pumping their fists and giving reasonable facsimile's of a rebel yell.He/they blew the roof off of the joint and had us screaming for more. I waslucky enough to be able to hang out with him afterwords and discuss theawsome Austin scene including Miss Luanne Barton and Eric Johnson. What acool guy. He even invited us to dinner. I've been looking for a cd withsome of his older songs for at least 10 yrs, and finally, thank God, Ifound it. If you have not heard Hard Times in The Land OF Plenty and someof the others on this jewel, buy it. Now. If you've never seen the greatone live, do so. As soon as possible. He is the real thing, not a prettyboy poser.

Editorial Review

Fleet-fingered fretman Monte Montgomery has quietly carved out a name for himself on the competitive Austin music scene as a poll-winning guitar hero and a must-see live act. What's more, on a scene known for blazing Stevie Ray-style Stratocasters, he's done it all with an acoustic guitar! Montgomery's first live effort, a double disc recorded at Fort Worth's palatial performing-arts venue Caravan of Dreams, showcases his guitar prowess and the popular appeal of his live band's propulsive power. Most of the acoustic rock-oriented material comes from Montgomery, as self-penned staples from his live show are interspersed with such favorites as "Wishing Well," "Whirlwind," and "When Will I" from his two studio albums. Montgomery and the band make the most of the live setting, stretching out the songs--five go past 10 minutes--with creative instrumental interplay. Montgomery also successfully mixes in a diverse selection of cover tunes, including a percussion-driven rendition of Fleetwood Mac's "World Turning" and a radically reworked, almost satiric take on Merle Haggard's "Silver Wings." TheHall & Oates hit "Sara Smile" and Dire Straits' "Romeo and Juliet," the latter the 13-minute album closer, also appear in personalized versions spotlighting Montgomery's aggressive acoustic-guitar excellence and his crowd-pleasing personality as a live entertainer. 3-0 out of 5 stars Monte Montgomery Live at the Caravan of Dreams
I have had the privlidge of seeing him live in San Antonio a few times and he is great. However this live CD could be better. I would highly recomend the "Let Me In" CD by Ruben V. Or any other CD by Ruben V. He is the best Guitarist in Texas today.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
Start to finish this album is amazing. When one disc finishes, I put the other one in.A must have album.

4-0 out of 5 stars Virtuosity is a little boring
I don't doubt that Monte Montgomery is the best guitar player in the whole state of Texas, and I don't doubt that he's something to see in person, but all in all I found this live CD a bit repetitive and lacking in variety.Too many of the songs sound the same: virtuoso guitar licks and heavy drums.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best solo Texas Blues performance I have ever heard!
Whether you like hard-driving rock-n-roll or down-and-dirty blues, you will thoroughly enjoy this live performance from 1964 featuring Lightnin' and his pulsating acoustic guitar.Lightnin's unique skill with the trueTexas style of blues guitar playing proves that it does not take a three orfour piece band to either rock the blues or get soulfully low-down on ablues ballad. This CD has it all:rockin' rhythms, great melodies, soulfulmoanings, great lyrics, and Lightnin's quick country wit and interactionwith the audience. After listening to Lightnin' play the openingguitar solo to "Baby,Please Don't Go" it is apparent that he hasan understanding of how to play some incredibly deep sounding blues withthe guitar that few, if any, modern artists are capable of recapturingtoday. "My Black Cadillac" and "Come Go Home WithMe" are perfect illustrations ofhow Texas Blues have been a heavyinfluence on modern day rock-n-roll. On these two songs Lightnin' lays downa heavy Texas Blues beat with his acoustic guitar that is at the very foundation of rock-n-roll. In a slight contrast, "The Twister" isa ballad that also moves and grooves, but with more of a true blues thanrock-n-roll feel."It's Crazy" and "Mojo Hand" areclassic examples of howthe lyrics of a song can thoroughly entertain anaudience while at the same time being powered by the classic Texas bluesbeat."My Babe" and '"Mean Old Frisco" aremedium-tempo songs with memorable melodies that you swear you know you haveheard somewhere else and you know you will always remember."SunGoin'Down and "I'm A Stranger" areslow, mournful blues playedand sang the way you always thought blues should be rendered.Afterlistening to this CD it is obvious that Lightnin's voice and his guitarplaying perfectly complement each other and blend together to produce someof the deepest, most powerful blues ever performed. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Return to form
Much has been made about Bobby Bland's voice not being what it once was. He is still one of the great ones, and if one weren't aware how truly extraordinary he once was, listening to him now wouldn't be quite so depressing. But, except for the occasional trademark phlegm induced growl he'll let out, he is still great. This CD was recorded at the New Daisy Theatre in Memphis where Bland made a name for himself. He is in good form as is his solid rhythm section. The real treat is that for recording purposes Bland and Malaco Records added a keyboard player to his regular band. They got renowned songwriter and session man Carson Whitsett, who played on several Bland albums as Malaco's band leader. Whitsett is absolutely terrific. His B-3 organ work really adds life to this concert, especially since Bland's horn section unfortunately gets worse and worse as the show progresses. 5-0 out of 5 stars Perfection...
...superlatives fail me. You just gotta hear it/gotta have it. A masterful Beale Street performance of (the classics and the 'Malaco moderns') Bobby Blue Bland and his revue. Blues you can use. Do not, do not, do not missout...

5-0 out of 5 stars Dreams come true

I am a blues fan from Germany who saw Bobby several times in the States, in Chicago and New York City. Only negative side: Bobby, please look for a differenthorn section!! They are not in tune on this CD and not on other concerts. 5stars for the atmosphere, the sound , the rhythm-section (10 stars!!!) andthe star, only 2 stars for the horns. This is another favorite live electric blues recording. Albert absolutely makes that guitar sing. This guy should be at the top or near the top of any list of great eletric guitarists past and present. The only complaintis that there isn't more material here. Just 7 songs and about 36 minutesworth. All of it is good though. From the beginning you know your listeningto something special.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It Doesn't Get Any Better Than Albert Collins LIVE
Mr. Collins is without a doubt my favorite guitarist. If you want to play in Texas, you have to play music people can dance to, and this influence is evident in Albert's live music. His Telecaster set up produces a more powerful sound, and his sense of humor can be detected in all his CDs.His potent blues riffs cut "way down deep into your soul".
5-0 out of 5 stars A Blues Legend Makes His Guitar Sing!
Albert Collins unleashes the soul of blues guitar on this album! From beginning to end this recording cuts to the listener's core, as Collins' guitar performs musical surgery with a master's skill! All of the songs are great, but the real gem is "Stormy Monday." Collins' version is simply outstanding! In this song Albert Collins truly pierces the very soul of the listener, and lifts it to a higher place! The guitar solo is breathtaking! This album is full of great music, and should be owned by every real fan of blues.Buy it now and experience the depth of a blues legend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Explosive mix!!!
This cd is really an explosive mix, blended with the great presence of this power trio in one of perhaps, the best "Live"performances ever released.Casey Jones on drums;A.C. Reed on sax and the "Iced-hot Man" Albert Collins is really an explosive mix you must try on!!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful intro to Johnny Copeland
With his gravely voice, and hard driving bass, this was a wonderful intro to Copeland's Texas blues. Highlights include Cut Off My Right Arm, with a fluid guitar solo rarely heard these days, the upbeat What Goes Around Comes Around, and some gut wrenching blues singing. I love Albert Collins, and the fact that he had Copeland play with him on an album made me curious. I was not disappointed. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Lightnin' Hopkins, the seminal Texas bluesman, was rediscovered in the 1960s when the folk revival made folk and country-blues musicians hot news. This seven-CD set includes much of Hopkins's work during that period, though he recorded for so many different labels that getting everything is well-nigh impossible. This is a good start, though, including as it does some concert recordings in addition to studio reissues and interviews. Hopkins's mastery of mood and technique makes this a chronicle not only of historical interest, but musical as well; while Hopkins's musical style didn't change much over the course of his multidecade career, he was certainly among the best at what he did. 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Collection
Yes, it is expensive but if you are interested in the blues then it's a really good deal.As has already been explained, the 7th disc is only interviews. But the 6 discs of music are incredible.I had to work up my nerve to make this purchase a few years ago.Luckily, I did get a discount but I still say it's worth the hefty price tag.I'm listening to 'Last Night Blues' right now and it's just as haunting today as it was when I first bought the set.

5-0 out of 5 stars Blues in a box set
This seven disk, expensive box set is often a difficult pill to swallow, but I am glad that I did.On six disks twelve Lightnin' albums from the 60's are combined. If you are interested in Lightnin', do the math. The Complete Prestige/Bluesville Rocordings is a value. The seventh disk is full of interviews that may seem dull to some, but to a fan willing to spend $ to get the blues they are a welcome addition.A very interesting way to learn about the man is from his own voice in interviews like these. The liner notes are a simple histoy, a few pictures and a discography.Again, I am glad I bought it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rated Five Stars With A Footnote
This is one fantastic collection of music! However, I was a little disappointed by the apparent lack of effort that went into the finished product. With such a comprehensive assortment of music, I expected to find at least liner notes or a booklet with some biographical material or reviews. Also, it should be noted that the final disk in this set is only spoken word. While the novelty of it is awesome, and you get to here Lightnin's stories first hand, at my first listening I was somewhat off set because I wasn't expecting it. However, those things aside, this set is worth every penny! ... Read more

Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars happy listener, unhappy customer
the album is great...when I paid for the 2 day shipping I expected to receive the CD in 3 days, not 2 weeks...I paid for 2 day shipping from outpost.com, and got the item the next day, now that's how to run a business, not like amazon apparently does

5-0 out of 5 stars Addiction is fun!
I first became aware of Toni Price through a piece I heard on NPR on my way to work (side note: Thank God for NPR! Death to Clear Channel!).I was immediately attracted to her lean, soulful voice. It has that sophisticated West Texas thing going, where a voice can express space and freedom without descending into a twang.Later, I checked the sound bites from this page, and hesitated before buying the album.I'm very glad I went forward with the purchase. You need to relax and listen through the whole thing to really get it.The best thing I can say about this album is that it has resided almost full time in the CD player of my car since I got it.The second best is that not only do *I* love it, but so do my three kids (they are preteens, and NOT always receptive to anything as subtle as this music!).Try it.You'lllike it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Music to live to
This is a tremendous live album (and, if you write to Toni, you can order the 4 song video shot at the club where the album was recorded). Not only is Toni in fine voice, but her awesome band of Champ, Scrappy Judd, andCasper fit every song perfectly. There are songs that will make you laughand dance and make love and there are songs that will bend your heart backinto place. One song, "What's It Take?" is so soulful and candidthat you know Buddy Holly wishes he'd done it.Get this cd and tell AUSTINCITY LIMITS to get Toni and her band a full hour. ... Read more
