Editorial Review

Cut during a period when Buddy Guy was rarely recorded, this blustery and breathtaking live set is full of idiosyncratic solos that dart after virtually any musical urge that strikes him. Such unpredictable improvisational impulses are more familiar to jazz than blues, but along with his whisper-to-scream singing, that's what makes Guy commanding onstage. His fevered take on the standard "Outskirts of Town" is outright incendiary. This album was originally released on Isabel, a French label named--at the singer-guitarist's insistence--after his late mother, who never had a chance to see her son perform. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is IT for Buddy Guy fans.
It is hard to compare this album with anything prior to or after. It stands alone in my Buddy Guy collection, and I have all that I can get my hands on.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Public Service Announcement
If after one spin of "Stone Crazy", the listener still thinks Clapton is a blues guitar god, you now know that person is a no-taste clown."Me and Mr Johnson", my ass.

I'm not a blues expert. I'm a born and bred south Chicagoan, and a blues fan for over thirty years. Purists be damned, this IS a blues album.

4-0 out of 5 stars Look what Santa did!
Blues musicians don't record Christmas songs that often, but Rhino Records managed to find 18 Christmas blues songs for this CD.Charles Brown's definitive recording of "Merry Christmas Baby" is well known, but the rest of the tracks are pretty obscure. There are a lot of good songs here, with my personal favorites being the ones by Eddie C. Campbell and Canned Heat.If you have any interest in the blues, this is the Christmas CD to get.

5-0 out of 5 stars More Blue Than Yule!!!
Well, let's see. As I write this review, the date is December 8th, 2004, and it's another two weeks and three days till Christmas finally arrives on the 25th. Since virtually every place in Creation started playing Christmas music on November 1st, you've had 38 days to become thoroughly SICK of the same dozen songs played over and over again from every radio station and retail establishment. Want some relief? How about an album chock-full of great Christmas BLUES music, that truly sounds more like blues that like standard, overplayed holiday ditties? Well, folks, get this CD!! It's nice and long (18 tracks) and only one or two numbers are overly familiar (and one of those, Charles Brown's immortal "Merry Christmas Baby," is usually considered the top Christmas blues recording of all time!) Standouts include Canned Heat (Their song is straightforward blues, not the novelty track they spun with ALvin and the Chipmunks), Detroit Junior with his hard-driving boogie "Christmas Day", the Pilgrim Travelers and their delightful, close-harmony doo-wop gospel classic, "I'll Be Home for Christmas," and the always-irrepresible Louis Jordan with "Santa Claus, Santa Claus." There's not a bad number in the bunch, but the pick of this holiday litter must go to Edddie Campbell and his delicious take on the Junior Wells masterpiece, here titled "Santa's Messin' With the Kid". So don't delay! Order today, there's still time to get it rushed to you by Christmas. Do it, and the best yuletide blues and r and b will be home to you, if not by Christmas, then by New Years night.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Of The Better Christmas Blues Compilations!
I tracked this down during this Christmas season after hearing Canned Heat's "Christmas Baby" on a Heineken commercial of all places.Immediately hooked, I sent off an e-mail asking Heineken for the name of the song and to my surprise, they responded. Searching on Amazon, I found it on this CD and purchased it.What was bought for one song soon became my favorite Christmas compilation complete with Big Jack Johnson, Louis Jordan, John Lee Hooker and Sonny Boy Williamson.Even the lesser known Poppa Hop and The Pilgrim Travelers make notable contributions on this disc. 2-0 out of 5 stars Caution: Mistake
I got this CD specifically for the song "I'm Going Upside Your Head", which is listed as track #15 on CD 2.This song by Jimmy Reed is hard to find except on multi-disc boxes, which are generally more JR than anyone needs, since JR's sound and songs really do become quite repetitive from one track to another.Only problem is that track #15 on CD 2 is NOT "I'm Going Upside Your Head" -- it's something else, not very good.A major disappointment! The rest of the 2 CDs are as listed, and do include most of JR's best known numbers. So if you don't particularly mind not having "I'm Going Upside Your Head", this collection is really pretty good (4 stars).Again, if you don't mind not having the song mentioned here, the single disc collection on Rhino ("Blues Masters: The Very Best of Jimmy Reed") is really your best bet (5 stars).

5-0 out of 5 stars A CD for the ages
While Donald Fagen dates this CD by mentioning the wrap-up of Gulf War I, the music holds up, giving this gem a charm all its own. The selection of guest musicians is first rate, with Phoebe Snow and Michael McDonald giving it all they have on their rendition of " Knock on Wood", while Fagen himself provides a less electronic, more standard jazz version of " Greenflower Street", a number off his first solo album ( they were albums and tapes back then!) Boz Scaggs delivers with " Drowning in the Sea of Love", conveying just the right amount of poetic desperation ensconced in lovely arrangement of music. This was released when I was sixteen, already a devoted Steely Dan/Donald Fagen fan, and open to the interpretations of oldies by acts that had already stood the test of time. It's hard to believe that this CD isapproaching its sixteenth anniversary this coming March, but don't be dissuaded. This thirty-one year old is still grateful for the education.

3-0 out of 5 stars waiwaiwaiwai...!
I listened to this CD because a friend at work insisted on loaning it. Donald Fagen did his usual wonderful job of being Donald Fagen, Boz Scaggs did his usual great job of being Boz, and Charles Brown didn't have to be anyone but himself anyway. The band is as tight as The JBs. *However*...
5-0 out of 5 stars This is a fine live album!

Editorial Review

With his meteoric run of hits from early 1955 through late 1961, Chicago's Jimmy Reed reigned as the most popular bluesman of his day, rivaled only by fellow Mississippi transplant B.B. King. By the mid-'60s Reed was playing New York's Carnegie Hall and the Apollo Theater and touring England as a star. Reed's sweet, Delta-inflected singing complemented the cool, walking bass shuffles of his cleverly crafted songs, the finest of which are to be found in this tasteful contribution to Rhino's Blues Masters series. Included here are chart toppers like "You Don't Have to Go," "Ain't That Lovin' You, Baby," "Baby, What You Want Me to Do," "Big Boss Man," and "Bright Lights, Big City," all durable standards that influenced a generation of rockers from Bob Dylan to the Rolling Stones to Jimi Hendrix and earned Reed his proper place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. 5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Influential Bluesman On Fine Single Disc Overview
A budget price Blues Master series issue sounding great withbooklet from this loose down and out bluesman giant who so much influenced rock and roll and it's seniors such as the Stones,Dead,Them,Neil Young,The Yardbirds who covered these Reed originals as their own on their individual band cd's.
5-0 out of 5 stars Hard-Hitting Song Selection
MCA's pitiful "20th Century Masters" series made me skeptical of the cursory and careless patch-work that constitutes the "greatest hits" collections of most Blues and Rock masters. But Rhino, as usual, proves to be the industry's most adept anthologizing entity here and has gone quite far to put the work of Rock 'N Roll's many geniuses into the kind of perspective that does proper justice to the artists. This Jimmy Reed collection, with its careful, dense and precise song selection, is no exception. Its 17-song track list reflects exactly the kind of generosity that the "20th Century Masters" series lacks. Not a single one of Reed's original classics eludes the radar here, from the particularly raw and aggressive early numbers, "High and Lonesome" and "Aint That Lovin' You Baby" to the smoother and more casual knockouts that stole crowds from Carnegie Hall to London in the late 50s, such as "Bright Lights Big City" and "Baby What You Want Me to Do," admirably covered by Neil Young (one of Reed's biggest fans) & Crazy Horse on their 1996 album, "Broken Arrow." That Reed would earn such a tribute from an artist whose roots are steeped in a tradition so dramatically distinct from his own testifies to the immensity of his influence. This is the document of a true American innovator whose work and talent made Rock 'N Roll possible.

5-0 out of 5 stars Anything by Jimmy Reed is good
Haven't as yet listened to this cd but I don't really need to to know how good this man was in his time.Everybody in to the blues knows Jimmy Reed and his easy going soft flowing style. The man had it all with some of his arrangements having grown into some of the most recognizable blues licks anywhere on the planet. The Stones covered him earlier in their career as did many others, and it;s just a shame how Mr. Reed's own personal life must have been painfull to the point of him drinking himself to death at the early age of 50.What ghosts must have hauted this man to drive him to such an early grave?I suppose we'll never know and it's probably just as well?Jimmy Reed was a public performer it's true. But firstly he was a man deserving of the respect he's been given in death atleast if not in life, and we should leave him to rest peacefully and leave his old past ghosts alone.Sleep well Jimmy! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Right on
The review on Chris Duarte is the only one that has been bang on.
4-0 out of 5 stars Why is he not famous?
Chris Duarte is a true wonder of the musical world. He is a guitarist beyond gifted. I have long wondered why Chris Duarte is not more recognized for his mind blowing guitar playing. After all of these years and hearing all of his records I stil have no clue. Get on the bandwagon people! We have an absolute guitar genius in front of us and still he goes unnoticed. This record displays everything that is great about Duarte. His vocals seem to be much improved on this record and his riffs on this record are once again superb! His fretboard execution is flawless and he plays with as much passion an fire as anyone who has ever played. The songs are fun to listen to and the band as a whole is as one musician. Just another great album from Chris Duarte. Three things that we all must do..Buy this CD, See Duarte live once in our lives and tell everyone we know about Chris Duarte in hopes that someday he may recieve the recognition that so many inferior guitarists have already been given.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chris follows his soul
If you've seen Chris Duarte live, even if only one time, you know he has a depth of soul that draws you to not only his music, but to him personally.Following the musical development of someone like Chris who is truly unique (a word overused but in Chris' case, accurate) is rewarding no matter what style he may be playing at the moment. The 30-second bites from "Romp" DO accurately represent this CD.If you like Chris Duarte, you will like this CD.If you spend time picking apart blues vs. rock vs. whatever, you don't have a full understanding of Chris Duarte. This CD is dynamite. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great blues from great venues
You really, really should see the documentary that this soundtrack comes from. Then you really, really should make a weekend round trip to Clarksdale, Miss. to the Ground Zero, and to Jackson, Miss. to the Subway Lounge on West Pearl Street. (The previous reviewer made an error--it's the SUBWAY Lounge in Jackson, the Ground Zero in Clarksdale.)The Subway Lounge is only open Fri and Sat nights, starting just before midnight, as it has done for a long, long time.Thank God they saved it from demoliton. For blues, tearing down the Subway to put a road through would've been like tearing down Liverpool's The Cavern to make a new goldfish pond. These are the real folks, the real places. You'll do no better than to make this part of your planning for a Delta Blues road trip.

5-0 out of 5 stars Who ARE these people?
Who cares? They're great! This is the real deal, boys and girls and, because you're here, I can only assume the real deal is what you're looking for.Buy this. It'll make you want to move to Jackson, Mississippi so you can feast on this buffet on a regular basis.

5-0 out of 5 stars Too long a wait...
Adding this CD reissue of "Black and Blue" and "Tobacco Road" from 1963-64 was a no-brainer, for this was the first time I'd had a chance to hear two of the greatest albums Lou Rawls has ever recorded.
5-0 out of 5 stars A timeless classic!
Lou Rawls is one of the greatest singers of this era.I have several of his albums. But I rejoiced when I found songs not included on other CDs such as "Blues for a Four-String Guitar," "Stormy Weather," "Georgia on My Mind," and "Summertime" as well as some of his signature tunes like "Tobacco Road."Lou Rawls really makes the standards his own. This album is Lou Rawls at his best, and a must-have for any fan!

5-0 out of 5 stars Long Awaited Black & Blue and Tobacco Road
It's very hard for me to be objective about these two recordings by Lou Rawls and Onzy Matthews.I wore out my vinyl long, long ago and have been waiting for the CD issue of these records for 20 years.FINALLY!Great and creative big band writing by Onzy Matthews....The arrangements never get in Lou's way and such mature singing for a young guy.Lou's in great voice, the selection of material is first rate and the writing and playing top notch.Enough with the cliches........buy it..at two for the price of one! ... Editorial Review

Because of a lack of touring due to health issues (he's a diabetic who suffers from chronic fatigue as well as depression) and a recording contract with a Canadian indie label, blues guitarist Ronnie Earl is likely to remain under the radar. But on his fourth album in four years, Earl proves that he's robust enough to muscle through a set of swinging jazz (Jimmy Smith's "Blues for J"), sizzling gospel ("Walking on the Sea" with the Silver Leaf Gospel Singers), and explosive blues (everything else) with strapping aplomb. As opposed to his previous almost entirely instrumental disc, vocals are featured on about half of these tracks. Kim Wilson sings and plays electrifying harp on four songs, of which a blistering 10-minute version of Otis Rush's "Double Trouble" is a career highlight for both musicians. Earl's burning leads show both an emotional drive and a restraint that make these live-in-the-studio tracks so riveting. Although his body is ailing, his soul is still quite strong. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Ronnie Earl & The Duke Excel!
For those of you who truly appreciate those East Coast Blues this is a must have album.Ronnie Earl is one of the great blues guitar players in the world as is Duke Robillard. This album is very good and shows off their distinct styles. The CD starts off great with West Side Shuffle then picks up steam with Two Bones & A Pick then Magic Sam's What Have I Done Wrong. This CD has everything you want in a blues album; two masters and a great list of songs.Give it a listen and you won't be disappointed.

When looked back on, the world will realize that they've overlooked the mostsoulful blues player in their midst. When otherslose trackin their quest for variety and success, Earl keeps it fresh by learning more blues, and deepening his approach. Now that there's alarge Ronnie Earl catalog to refer to, it can be safely said that he is most consistent blues player of his generation. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the Best
I am an ABCD.I used to think my parents were crazy when they tried to get me to listen to Classical Music. At the time I would have much rather listen to Hip Hop.But this one, I've been listening to everywhere, since I was in highschool. Its great car and study music. But the best part is, it prompted me to learn more about classical music, and develop my own tastes. Now I listen to original classical music, as well as fusion and remixed.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good intro to Indian classical music; but there are better
The fourth star in this rating is as much for the historical importance of this album.Recorded in 1968, it was for many people the first introduction to Indian classical music, other than Ravi Shankar. In particular, it made Shivkumar Sharma and Hariprasad Chaurasia, then aged about 30 and on the cusp of great international careers, better known to audiences outside of India.4-0 out of 5 stars A great introduction to Indian classical music
If you are a newbie and planning to explore Indian classical music, then start with this album!

4-0 out of 5 stars Mildly Interesting
I really wanted to like this album and I do really like about three of the songs, but the rest didn't do anything for me.Maybe this is just not my style of music and it's not fair for me to be reviewing the album, but I have listened to it several times and own a copy.In spite of the untimely deaths a long time ago of two of the important band members (Alan Blind Owl Wilson and Bob Hite), the band is still around, kept going by Fito de la Parra.I still think this rates 4 stars, even though it didn't thrill me that much.

4-0 out of 5 stars Water Turning To Wine
Interesting band from the deph of the Woodstock era, and way short lived, due to the deaths of Blind Owl Wilson and Bear Hite what a tragedy. Anyways lets not bum you out too much with this review, they had some funfilled blues in this set, perfect driving song like On The Road Again, or a cool little peaceful jingle like Let's Work Together, from an anthem to Woodstock Going Up The Country, or to the stay away from the evil drugs Amphetamine Annie. This album really packs the punch of pure blues and jugband pleasures. I would recommend this for any 60's rock and roll lover, and would also recommend the Woodstock album that has them performing Change Is Gonna Come, that's a good number too.

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS ONE IS TIGHT, SCORCHER BLUES OF THE PSYCHE-SIXTIES

5-0 out of 5 stars One of Cray's Best!
"Surgeon General's Warning: This album may be dangerous because it is literally dripping with raw emotion and pure attitude. It contains so much good music it may cause a severe addiction to the searing guitar and vocals of Robert Cray."This cd blew me away when I first heard it and still does. "Moan" is the best song on the album but they are all really good. I enjoy Cray's previous albums with a horn section, but I have to say when it's just him and his band pared down, his voice and guitar playing are even more compelling. You really believe what he is singing about, he has so much conviction in his voice it's scary! If you are looking for music that will grab your attention on the first note and hold you there for the next 10 songs, then buy this cd! It is a must-have for any fan of American roots music.

i have a few of robert's cd's this one so far is my favorite.well produced great guitar work, exelent vocals, and song selection.a good place to start your collection of cray's music.

5-0 out of 5 stars This record soars high!
This is the best comtemporary blues album released in years and I am grateful to own a copy (second copy, 1st was stolen) and buying for the 2nd time! Aside from the most distinct Strat tones of Robert Cray is his ability to sing in such great harmony and melody and not miss a note picking his 6-string...incredible! I like "Moan", its got alot of energy, the drums, bass, organs, notable guitar chords and vocals. It is a very richly recorded album which stood out in all avenues. The most loyaled and talented musicians incoprates such subtleness one can only find in a blues record such as Robert Cray's. "Some Rainy Morning" is a feel good album as it is in the "Blues". I can listen to this album over and over again and if it gets stolen again, I will buy my 3rd. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars what a find!
I bought this cd on faith since I only knew one of the songs listed.I'm so glad that I did!Zucchero blends an intense and passionate voice with unusual but compelling lyrics.Give it a try.And don't underestimate the power of this cd for romantic mood-setting. Wow!

5-0 out of 5 stars A hidden gem
It is a real shame that this album only has one review, so I thought I would correct that.5-0 out of 5 stars Upbeat and fun
This is a great, cheerful CD. It's full of upbeat songs, although I love the beautiful melody of "Diamante. Zucchero's music is certainly as beautiful as Bocelli's, but in a lighter way. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GIVIN' IT UP!
Betwixt playing harmonica on early 60's Bruce Channel classic HEY BABY, giving John Lennon a lesson or two on said instrument, having his compositions covered by everyone from Emmylou Harris (TWO MORE BOTTLES OF WINE) to the Blues Brothers (B-MOVIE BOX CAR BLUES) to Vince Gill (VICTIM OF LIFE'S CIRCUMSTANCES), scoring his own Top 40 hit GIVIN' IT UP FOR YOUR LOVE, recording for predominant blues label Alligator (and scores of others), and winning a Grammy for a duet with Bonnie Raitt, Delbert McClinton has seen it, done it, and sung it all. The Lubbock, Texas belter of all things blues, RNB, and country has deservedly been given the "Ultimate" package treatment by retro-specialist label HIP-O. Here are eighteen tasty as BAR-B-Q tracks of honky tonk sweat shouted out in the world weary rasp of a thousand smoke filled roadhouses. These meaty slabs of soul include IT AIN'T WHAT YOU EAT BUT THE WAY HOW YOU CHEW IT, THE JEALOUS KIND, LOVE RUSTLER, and patented takes on the afore mentioned hits for others. Like John Hiatt, Delbert McClinton may still not be a household name after lo' these many eons, but true relishers of raw roots music will always know where to go for a satisfying fix. RATING: FIVE HARPS
5-0 out of 5 stars Best of Delbert
If you like Texas Twang this one is for you. Great music with rockin' sound. Delberts history with other musicians thru the years is unbelievable but after you hear his music you can believe. The guy the taught John Lennon to play harmonica.Country rock at its best

Editorial Review

That the trio recorded this stunning, spiritual-minded collaboration in the town of Unity, Maine, is one of life's fortuitous coincidences. Although their voices are dissimilar, Maria Muldaur, Eric Bibb, and Rory Block share roots in folk, gospel, and blues. Brought together, along with a three-piece backing band, in a barn-turned-recording-studio by producer Randy Labbe, the trio cooks up a feisty musical feast that sounds so comfortable and joyous, it seems they were lost soulmates finally joined in song. Bibb's smooth Keb' Mo'-style vocals join Muldaur's huskier, sassy approach and Block's deep blues on a combination of originals and covers that showcase each artist's strengths, both solo and in tandem with the others. From contemporary classics such as Dylan's "Gotta Serve Somebody" and Bill Withers's sublime "Lean on Me" to a languid version of Jimmy Reed's "Little Rain" and a swampy, roof-raising "My Sisters and Brothers," this upbeat album never gets predictable, preachy, or clichéd. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Collaboration Makes a Great Album!!!
I was drawn to this album due to my admiration of Maria Muldaur and her vocals on this album are truly superb. It is not pop nor blues. This is a folk album if it must be categorized and the songs are fantastic. There is true life and spirit in every track. It is invigorating and I found myself drawn into listen to each and ever song and once the album was over, I wanted more. I admire Maria for taking part with Eric Bibb and Rory Block. As one other reviewer suggested, they should go back to that barn in Unity, Maine and do another album. Unity is the message of this album. It is uplifting but not "preachy". The songs such as "Lean On Me", "Bessie's Advice", have soul and a message of brotherhood. I love this album and when it is over, it is easy to hit "Replay". I cannot recommend this great album which deserves five stars if not more, highly enough. It is so fine!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fervor, Wit and Great Blues Singing
Some might say that Maria Muldaur, Rory Block and Eric Bibb are as unalike as they are alike. But it's their "unalikeness" wrapped into their likeness that makes this recording something special. This album plays like a joint effort of three old friends having a jam session of sorts. Its totally relaxed, yet full of fervor, wit, and definitive blues/gospel singing. Some of the standouts are Block's version of Bill Wither's "Lean On Me" with great harmony from Muldaur, Bibb's take on Dylan's "Gotta Serve Somebody" and Muldaur's "Bessie's Advice" (cowritten with Bibb). That's just the icing. There's plenty more including two of Block's standards "Rolling Log" and "Maggie Campbell" where one gets to hear her wonderful guitar playing which sounds as fresh as ever. Bibb's languid, bluesy take on "Little Rain" is right on the money! Things close with Muldaur performing one of her old chestnuts, "My Brothers and Sisters". At the end when she cries out "Hallelujah..Thank Ya!..Thank Ya!" one knows that they've just experienced three great talents doing what they were born to do! If you're a fan of music at its most basic and stirring, this recording is a must! NOTE: Amazon has the son listings in the wrong order.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Agents of 6th Street, Austin, Texas
This is probably one of the best blues recording I've picked up in a while.I was curious to see what the early Fabulous Thunderbirds sounded like and all I can say is WOW.I picked this up on, of all things, LP at Half Price Book in Austin, Texas. All the songs are great, Jimmy Lee burns it up on Full Time Lover.
5-0 out of 5 stars don't be scared
This is the best and bluesiest of T-Birds cds. What I enjoy most is the absence of any second guitar or keyboard, or rather, the way these guys play without those 'extra' instruments:No fear. The space is beautiful, and when it's right, (and it is), there's nothing better than a bent note just sitting out in the air by itself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Thunderbirds "Girls Go Wild"
Ask any working professional blues guitarist or any other blues musician, including his younger brother Stevie Ray Vaughan, and he will probably say that Jimmie Vaughan is one of the greatest blues guitarists of the last 40 years, perhaps longer. Vaughan probably had as much of an impact with this, the Fab T'Birds first album, as Eric Clapton had back in 1966 with John Mayall (The Beano Album). In effect, Jimmie Vaughan helped convert millions of guitar wanking/noodling blooze players (myself included!) into more serious rootsy players. He succeeded in distilling Jimmie Reed, Jimmie Rogers, T-Bone Walker,, a young B.B. King, Lightning Hopkins, Slim Harpo, John Lee Hooker, and several others into an unbeatable blend-- himself. Problem is (well it isn't really a problem)-- there is only one Jimmie Vaughan, meaning that he is the original and can never be duplicated, let alone imitated. Nobody in recent memory has been able to "tell a story" with every solo the way he has. (This is no doubt the reason Stevie Ray considered his older brother Jimmie the better player.) As a rhythm player nobody has come close. Believe me, many have tried. Seeing him play live was overwhelming. And that's just the guitar player on this debut!

5-0 out of 5 stars Instrumental -Some vocals and fine blues-rock art
This beautifully packaged 15 track CD is mostly instrumental as the title implies. Track 1, Parthenogenesis is a visionary 20 minute blues suite opening with a modal jews harp and then moving through various sections. The sections of Parthenogenesis could all be separate songs in their own write, in this case though the way they seamlessly blend together makes for a solid continuous composition. When Bob Hite's voice appears it is mixed way down and somehow seems more tasteful that way.It is similar (somehwhat) with Mayall's Bare Wires and Blues from Laurel Canyon, not so much in style, (although there are similarities and Mayall does plays piano on one of the sections) -- but in the concept of a blues suite.

4-0 out of 5 stars ****1/2. Better sound, better mixes
The original seven-track Muddy 'Mississippi' Waters Live" album was a nice, but ultimately inessential record.
5-0 out of 5 stars and I thought I've heard it all
I guess I must have not read Muddys biography enough or didn't put two and two together. I thought with the Chess Box 3 CD set I have almost all of his recordings.5-0 out of 5 stars Best Blues Vocalist

Editorial Review

No slide guitarist since Ry Cooder has made his strings shimmer and soar, growl and cry the way Sonny Landreth does. Though his sideman credits extend from a zydeco apprenticeship with Clifton Chenier through his breakthrough association with John Hiatt, Landreth finds a unique musical niche on his own recordings, combining the literacy of a Southern storyteller with the chops of a guitar hero. This belated successor to 1995's South of I-10 evokes the spirit of Landreth's native Louisiana, in the atmospheric narratives of the t
