5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing
It's a shame that I am only now discovering the amazing band that is the Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra.Anyone slightly interested in ska music will love the sick horn licks and tight changes on this album. The lead singer's nearly incomprehendible rants only add to the charm. The album delivers high energy music with amazing arrangements and exciting tunes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, affordable Skapara!
I love all of Tokyo Ska paradise Orchestra...that is, all except the price of acquiring their music as imports. This is a set of some of their more outstanding pieces, from the energetic A Quick Drunkard to the soulful Lovers' Walk, and the music videos on the disk are a great bonus. In fewer words: pure fun for cheap. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wish I could give it more stars
Modified is one of my favorite cds of all time.I'm not even a big fan of the genre.Every song on the cd is incredible.A lot of times people buy a cd to get one good song, well every song on this cd could be that one song (except one more try being one minute long). This cd is fun, fast, and brilliant.Monique's voice is one of the best voices I've ever heard. The music on every track is awesome and very well produced.Every song is a stand-out track, but Let Me In is phenomenonal.IT IS ONE OF THE BEST SONGS, IF NOT THE BEST SONG, EVER WRITTEN, PERIOD.Let Me In is an epic ballad that sounds nothing like anything Save Ferris has done.If you can't feel the emotion coming from Monique's voice (Brian Mashburn, the guitarist, wrote the song) you my friend have no soul and are a horrible human being. That one song should be enough reason if you do not have this cd to get away from your computer, go to your local record store and buy the cd immediately. That song and this cd is that good.It just sucks that Save Ferris isn't making music no more.

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the Heartbroken
Ever known a band for ages yet not gotten into them till one day something happens, you listen to a song and suddenly you're hooked? That's how I feel about Save Ferris. I have 2 main reasons for loving this band: 1) Monique Powell's amazing vocals and 2) I'm trying to forget someone who really let me down; the music lifts my spirits and the lyrics just echo my thoughts, or at least what I should be thinking.
5-0 out of 5 stars All-round Great
Although many compare this album to their debut (and ultimately find it disappointing), I think it has turned out to be an all-round better piece of work. Modified gives the listener a taste of different music, from Turn It Up's upbeat ska-pop to Let Me In's extremely touching style. All around, shows that the group can be versatile, and has the best of their songs. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lucky Boys Rock!
I have this cd and every song is great...especially when you're playing it at parties.I have seen them play live, and they are amazing.Although they are a Chicago band, many people elsewhere are also realizing how great they are.I have met them, and they also help manage/tour with agreat group called 15 minutes late (AWESOME BAND!) also from the Chicago area. I just wish more people knew who LBC were...fred astaire, breaking rules, 40/80,saturday nite, city lights and one to the right are my favs on the album, but as a whole its worth having!I was just amazed at how well they performed these songs live. This is one band that I expect to see more of.I think they will get more a fan base and become more famous in the near future.Everyone should go out and get this album and Committment.

alright, lemmie just start by saying that this album isn't as good as their newest one. If you're only going to buy one LBC album, make it "commitment". However, if you already have commitment, get this one next...

So okay, this cd is a bit more mellow as far as the Bosstones type of music is concerned- but it doesn't mean it's bad! When I'm in a melancholy mood, I can continue my Mighty Mighty Bosstones playlist with this cd.
5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite CD Of All Time!
Wow!Lyrically this has to be one of the best CDs ever written. This album is full of morals about everyday life and it gives off a very positive message to the listener as well.I was going through some pretty tough times and I happened to stumble across this CD in my storage unit and figured that I haven't heard it in a while so why not.I took a long car ride and listened to the whole album all the way through and really learned a lot.I have to say, in all honesty, this album really gave me a whole different outlook on life and it really lifted my spirits.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Of Their Best
This is without a doubt my favorite O.C. Supertones album. And I believe it to be their best. one of the things that seperate these guys from alot of other bands out their that their album songs are great. But if you have seen these guys live they are even better. That is a mark of a truly great band. And they are Christian so you know that they are going to be clean. They are incredibly goofy in their songs and concerts. lol. I mean they bring a surfboard to their concerts and go crowd surfing that is hilarious. They have crazy stage antics. running around doing the first thing that comes to mind. It's like an ADD convention with lots of great music.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great cd. A true ska favorite
Amazing album. I've been listening to the Supertones since their roots. This is a true third wave ska album. It's more rocky than poppy like five iron frenzy(r.i.p.), but definately different than poopy third wave ska like No Doubt). If you like this album (which you will!) check out The Isrealites, Plankeye, Fanmail, Five Iron Frenzy, The Mighty, Mighty Bosstones, The Insyderz, The Skatalites, Tastysnax, The W's(more swingy), and Ghoti Hook.

2-0 out of 5 stars Question this purchase
This album did not hold a candle to "Don't Know How to Party" when it dropped in 94'. They also toured off this sell-out slab of stale sardines for 6 robotic years afterwards. If you are interested in getting into the Bosstones do not buy this. If you are a mild Bosstones fan and do not own this yet, don't buy this either. If you are 30 years old like me with fond memories of a fun little band, you look back at this ugly yellow album and laugh. It was the beginning of the end... the long timers knew it in 94'. This is a "question mark" in the career of a band that lost it's identity. What happened?

1-0 out of 5 stars The beginning of the end
This album broke many mainstream listeners to the MMB in 1994. Unfortunately, these younger listners must not of heard the real MMB albums prior, which are much more fun, energetic, and skacore. This album contains overproduced, sappy, depressing songs made for commerical audiences leaving behind the better days of the MMB. All the elements of a band selling out are here: a hit single, a slow ballad (ska style), and a cleaned up polished look for MTV. All of the TANG MMB albums are worth buying with More Noise being my favorite.I can't imagine what type of person would actual enjoy listening to tracks on this album like "pictures to prove it" or "jump thru the hoops" or what the band was thinking when they recorded these slow and uninspiring songs.THis album led many hardcore fans to leave the band as live shows lost thier energy and posers began touting this album as great. What a sham. The best song on this album "dogs and chaplains" is a third time remake of a classic first appearing on Devils Night Out on TANG.

This Southern California band certainly has reason to be in good spirits lately. Its fidgety brand of ska-punk went kaput a few years ago, and while they watched several of their contemporaries rinse away, the members of Reel Big Fish inexplicably now find themselves on the same label as platinum pop stars Britney Spears and 'N Sync. Good for them. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars One of FIF's Most Powerful Albums
Although I am not a Christian, I am still able to enjoy FIF's music, which is incredibly unique. On this album they have left their straight ska sound behind, and have gone down a more neo-New Wave path, a la Fountains of Wayne with horns.
4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good
Five Iron never fails to deliver. It took me awhile to get into it, because I was used to hearing some of the songs on their live cds. 5-0 out of 5 stars So very Powerful!
If you like Five Iron Frenzy, or ska music, or Rock music, you cannot dislike this CD!This is quite possibly FIF's hardest hitting, most powerful CD to date.Though, I cannot say it is better than the others, they have all captivated me in a way no other ban has come close to doing. This band is, in my opinion, the best our gerenation has yet seen!Buy it, you won't be disappointed. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars How Else Can I say This......WOW
This album blew me away big time. I was one of those intense op ivy fans who just wanted go get all of their later music. Rancid was dissapointing, so where Transplants, then, finally, my favorite member of the band, Jesse makes this. WOW. I like this almost as much as Energy and that is saying a LOT. Every track is great, just like energy, and while it isn;t as much ska or punk, it still has a little of both.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cool Album
This is a really cool Less Than Jake album. This was realeased just after Pezcore and has that same sound, sort of raw and rough around the edges, as opposed to the later albums like Borders and Boundaries, Anthem, and B is for B-sides, which have tighter horns and an overall smoother sound. This album has a lot of good stuff on it. It's energetic and fast like all of LTJ's work. This is a nice addition to your LTJ collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME CD
I have recently become a fan of less than jake.Their first song I heard of theirs was "All My Friends Are Metalheads" playing Tony Hawk 4 and decided to go out and pick up "Hello Rockview", since that time i have aquired numerous albums of theirs. The first taste i had of Less Than Jake was the more punkish version that shows up in "Anthem" and thier newer cds.

5-0 out of 5 stars amazing journey with some really talented people
From the first time I heard this back in 1991 I was hooked on this band - an amazing amalgam of different musical styles something between a ska, punk, rock, rap, funk, progressive jazz etc... position, with an intelligent attitude, brilliant musicianship and showmanship (they are amazing live) and a true creativity in their music - able to explore a lot of boundaries while making very listenable songs.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fishbone at their best
This is my favorite Fishbone recording.Their energy and passion come across beautifully, but are balanced by tight production that is missing from some of their later recordings. This album also features a wonderful variety of styles and moods."Everyday Sunshine" is going to be my funeral elegy, if my wife has anything do to with it (selecting the elegy, not the timing of my funeral!). She has seen how that song moves me, makes me dance, sing, and feel good about life.It is a beautiful pairing with thehard-rocking and nihilistic "Sunless Saturday."The two songs exemplify what makes this a special album.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Reality of My Surroundings(1991)
For anyone who walked in on Fishbone at the Truth & Soul party of 1988, the shock and disturbing qualities that now enter the landscape of The Reality of My Surroundings (TROMS) is most certainly a party let down. It's like your parents coming home earlier than expected, and reality sets in. Truth and Soul is certainly their most accessible work, and often hailed as their masterpiece. But that is only in terms of how approachable it is by the general consumer. The suburbanite and middle class citizen. The record buying public. In my opinion, with TROMS, one of the most important black bands in America's recording history set about writing their manifesto. And anyone who had heard Public Enemy's Fear of a Black Planet, and the pronouncement by Chuck D. in Thin Line Between Law & Rape, `' You can't take whatcha want,Dont cha know We aint got nuttin left? Cause you took the rest, We aint got jazz, rock & roll , Rappin the lose. Wit a few fat ladies left singin da blues.''

Despite popular perceptions, Jamaica's first internationalsuperstar was not Bob Marley but anidiosyncratic music arranger named Prince Buster.Buster's pre- and post-ska musical stylings were so left of center(sometimes his rhythmic structures focus on the after-beat rather thanthe downbeat) that he's largely thought to have created his own reggaesubgenre called blue beat (named after his label of the same name).Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Dissappointing sound
This disc is the first and the last one for my Prince Buster collection. The sound is terrible, I understand that this musician recorded its music more than 40 years, but there is no intention for remastering the original records. The music as well as the lyrics is not that good. I would rather recommend ska musicians like The Skatalites.

Without a doubt, PRINCE BUSTER is the almighty father of the SKA-BLUE BEAT style (NOTE: of course, LAUREL AITKEN is the godfather of SKA). These tunes are the original soundtrack for any REAL MOD or SKINHEAD and that fact cannot be denied.I have a copy of a PRINCE BUSTER live show in London from 1967 and it is absolutely awesome. If you can find this recording, please grab it.It will be worth every cent you spend on it.I also recommend the SEQUEL to this CD.The only thing that sucks about these CDs is the fact that they don't have Prince Buster's original recording of ONE STEP BEYOND.However, there is another listing for a CD that does include this recording.Check out all the PRINCE BUSTER listing on this website. Also, TROJAN RECORDS is releasing a double CD of SKA classics (original and neo-ska classics).Happy listening...............PRINCE BUSTER rules! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Go VGS!!!
These guys are awesome both live and on CD. This is one of the first that got me into punk/ska music years ago. They keep it real. They have their own destinctive sound/style and they stick to it. My favorite on this CD is, of cousre, "el coo cooi" hehe This is a must-have for any ska fanatic.

4-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF GGGGGGGARTH'S HIDDEN TREASURES!
I bought this CD when I was about 15 or 16 and it still plays in my stereo when I'm into a little underground mix of chicanos playing by there own set of rules. What I mean is that this record contains crisp hardcore with strong connecting ska riffs and choruses. This is probably all thanks to producer GGGGGGGarth who has worked with the best of the best and is probably one of the most influential unsung heroes in the music business back in the day of the 90's! Anyways the album never let's down and just like the cover of the CD it sounds like a hot rod on some hopped up fuel. If your into a little different mix than this is something worth checking out. The band contains a guitarist , a bass player, a drummer, and a singer but also with a horn section as well so expect the unexpected when you listen to the VOODOO GLOW SKULLS!

5-0 out of 5 stars don't worry about skipping over tracks, the whole thing rocks
Hey if you're a fan of ska music, hell, if you're a fan of music at ALL be sure to listen to Why Do They Rock So Hard. This album is filled with the genius of Reel Big Fish's wacky lyrics that they are so well known for, along with their original and fun sound the band carries. If you're looking for the usual stuff that is being played on the radio these days, you won't find it in Why Do They Rock So Hard? The whole production is something impressive that you'll be listening to for years to come.
