4-0 out of 5 stars Funk it up Fishbone!
Some may not agree, but I call this easily their best album. It should have made them huge. "Truth And Soul" is a wonderful mesh of funk/ska/rock/punk, and usually gets me jumping around the living room. Great lyrics too. Few songs have the energy that "Ma And Pa", "Bonin' In The Boneyard", and "One Day" do. This album is also a must for fans of the old movie "Tapeheads", as this includes "Slow Bus Movin' (Howard Beach Party)" which the soundtrack missed. But it's not all horn-blowing and bass-slapping. "Change" is a beautiful song played on acoustic guitar, that's about making the world a better place for all. Any fan of older Chili Peppers or Bosstones needs to hear this.

5-0 out of 5 stars If I could....
I would give this cd 10 stars. Fishbone, from go, have been that intense band that EVERYBODY needs to experience. With all of that energy on stage and can still hold the beat! This is the ORIGINAL line-up for the 'Boners. I TRULY miss everyone else (with the exception of Angelo, who continues to hold Fishbone). Even Dirty Walt is gone. I thought he would never leave!. Fish (drummer) is now in Wicked Wisdom with Jada. Kendall's group, Seedy Arkestra, has a cd called Puzzle. Reggae-ish. Nice and mello. Walt has a cd called Dirty Walt and the Sanitation. Funky and dirty. That's all I will say. Rest of the fellers, yo no se? Favorite songs: Slow Movin' Bus (Howard Beach Party), Change, Freddie's Dead, Bonin' in the Boneyard,-Damn, might as well just say the WHOLE cd!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome!!!!!!
This Fish bone cd is awsome, it is strange at first, i dident realy like it at first, and now that i have listen to it more then once i love it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Love it.
These guys give the best live shows, EVER.The album attempts to capture some of the pure electricity of their live performances and succeeds. The only problem is that it is not a full album, which is why i give 4 and not 5 stores.I WANT MORE!

2-0 out of 5 stars Cheesed-out mainstream mallpunk.
If you're looking for the missing link between mallpunk and N Sync, this is it.Lucky Boys have always had a mainstream sound, but they used to be a bit more eclectic and punky.Sure, the songs are pleasant to listen to, but so is anything on corporate radio. This EP is simply, completely devoid of bite.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lucky boys are back
I didn't know if I would see another album by these guys, but I have to say, now that "How To Get Out Alive" is sitting in my CD player... i'm more than happy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Angry Rancid
This is by far Rancid's most "punk rock" album. It is very fast, ver hard, and most of the songs sound very angry. It's a lot different from the other albums, once again continuing Rancid's ever shifting genre.Good album.

2-0 out of 5 stars ehhhh
this is by far the worst rancid record. people calling it a return to the bands earlier sound could not be further from the truth. this album sounds NOTHING like "lets go" or their s/t effor..it doens't even sound like 7" they point out on lookout records back in '92.Lars' voice sounds like total crap..i usually love the tracks he does vocals on. but i don't like a single song on here that he sings...he's trying to scream way to much instead of actually signing.there are a few pretty cool songs "black hawk down" "radio havana" "black derby jacket"but the bad songs realy really take away from the good...i always felt that this record was sort of in repsonse for some fans reaction to "life won't wait" (amazing album) but i could be wrong...overall..just not that impressed...I just gotta say i read a few other reviews below...i think someone said something how this album had "a lil dub influence" yeah i don't see it. No i mean there is not an ounce of dub on here. just thought i'd point on that

4-0 out of 5 stars a bit of a change of pace, but a fresh breath of air!
even though they are classics, lets go, life wont wait, and out come the wolves all contained the poppy worn out rancid that we have all grown to love...but life wont wait, still being really good, was starting to lag behind compared to the previous two....now along comes this album and it is a complete hardcore in your face album that really rejuvenates them.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Ska-tastic...
I caught a whiff of this great music late at night on the left side of the dial where the public sponsored stations all hang out in a small, little huddle trying to remain fiercely independent. Most of these stations play incredible music of all types and this was one of the records the midnight DJ spun....
4-0 out of 5 stars Right
I agree with Skibz here. The Bosstones, RBF, LTJ, FIF (ok, enough acronyms), et al. are not traditional ska - they are their own thing. There's connections and influences, but stepping up onto your pedestal and proclaiming that the heathens listening to these lowly recent bands should listen to 'real' ska does not make any sense. If someone likes ska-punk, they might absolutely hate traditional ska, and your admonitions will do nothing to change that. They'll just be given one more reason not to at least try to like it.If someone disdainfully reproached you for your musical interests, would that really inspire you to look into that person's musical interests?
5-0 out of 5 stars More entertaining than Mike Young's (Chicago IL.) reviews.
If your looking for the Skatalites then you know what to expect...buy this!If you've stumbled accross this album because your interested in the roots of various musical gendres then you have found this one for a reason...buy it!I also HIGHLY recomend checking out Mike Youngs other reviews, very entertaining.

One of a handful of pop groups in the latter half of the 1990s to exploit the renewed interest in American roots (swing, big band, soul) music, this Eugene, Oregon ensemble scored big with a neat modern update of the old school. Purists take note: Cherry Poppin' Daddies built a following by touring with third-wave ska outfits like Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Reel Big Fish, prompting main Daddy Steve Perry to wryly call his group "third-wave swing." 5-0 out of 5 stars Red Hot Swing ,Smokin' Horns,
This CD has been a fave for me over the last 8 years or so...I keep comin' back to it for an adreneline boost, literally. I've also got cds from BBVD,RCR,Squirrel Nut Zippers etc.,but for my money this is the real deal. There's not one bad track and several outstanding ones...my faves include Ding Dong Daddy(breathtaking opening)Mister White Keys,Master and Slave,Dr. Bones,Come Back To Me,Drunk Daddy(disturbing images, but killer track all the same)and Shake Your Lovemaker.I admire Steve Perry for his skill with lyrics .While at times dark and nasty ,it is honest, full of imagery and downright fun for the most part.He isnot blessed with much range in his voice , but uses what he has well. The music ,especially the horn arrangements literally jumps out of the speakers .Go ahead ,Try and keep still.Hopefully,we'll hear more ,even though swing has gone below the radar again, the music is too damned good to completely disappear.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cherry Poppin' Daddies bring swing back to life
I am 14 years old, and I love this CD. The way the music flows, it just makes you want to dance! This is perhaps the best CD I have ever owned. The Cherry Poppin' Daddies have thrown swing into my life from the bell of a saxophone. After I listened to this CD I realized what mindless [...] I has been jammin' to before (System of a Down, Linkin Park, Korn etc.). I strongly urge you to buy this CD either for you, or as a gift for some teenager, or even child. Who knows, they might be chuckin' all their System of a Down Cd's and start blastin' some music you like too. Good Luck!
5-0 out of 5 stars Swinging music
When I started hearing "Zoot Suit Riot" I would sing with my friends and we'd alternate the lyrics "throw back a bottle of beer" to "throw back a bottle of root beer," because we were in 6th and 7th grade and we didn't like the alcohol references. The title cut, "Pink Elephant" and "Master and Slave" are the top 3 songs on this CD. As said in one of the reviews there are a few songs with vulgar lyrics, but most of them don't have too many. The CD is very good, especially if you like swing music. ... Read more

The celebratory spirit behind tribute albums doesn't suit every subject. More than a single swaggering rock star has come off as limp and self-loving, and thoughtful chanteuses have gone sappy or sour--which is why saluting the California garage punks of Sublime makes a lot of sense. For one thing, it's nearly impossible to screw up the collapsed band's sunny, to-hell-with-it vibe--its music is a mood encapsulated--and for another, any artist cool enough to take on one of its songs knows instinctively to embrace the ska sensibility and not skimp on energy. 3-0 out of 5 stars Nice sentiment - poor execution
I bought this album on the recommendation of a friend after we had a conversation about Sublime... we both really liked Sublime's music and he told me how great this CD was, so I picked it up.Unfortunately, I can't agree that the CD is that "great."I enjoyed one or two tracks, and I really laud the effort that went into them - it's never easy to cover another band's hits. But some of the songs are just bad - and with most of them I know I'd rather just hear the actual version. If you like covers and want to hear a bunch of different bands pay tribute to a great band that is no more, pick up this CD.Otherwise, just put in "40 oz. to Freedom" or "Sublime" and listen to the masters at work.

3-0 out of 5 stars If you are a true sublime you'll want to hear this
Obviously no one can do a Sublime song better than Sublime but what I like about this album is how everyone put their own style into each of the songs. They didn't try to sound like Sublime but at the same time, you can still imagine Sublime being involved with the making of these songs. The book insert has a little input from each artist on what Sublime meant to them which I enjoyed reading.
4-0 out of 5 stars Decidedly Good
I've heard the originals to almost all of these songs many times, so naturally I don't really have the same affinity for these that I do the originals. That being said, I like how diverse the sound is, instead of being true covers, the various artists take liberty to change/add lyrics and create completely different sounding songs than the originals.

When Bob Marley and the Wailers recorded their legendary 1975 London gig, little did they know of its lasting power. From the opening shuffles of "TrenchtownRock" to the rabble-rousing "Get Up, Stand Up," this brief recording captured Marley'scombo of critical invective and languid musical power. The rhythm team of Aston andCarlton Barrett make time-keeping splendidly melodic as Marley's gently scouring voicegets woven in with his backup vocalists in a mellowly dazzling display. On fire, the bandjumps into the discovery of its power without regard to keeping the songs tidy orreflective of anything other than the moment of execution. No matter the years betweenits original release and the present, this recording will always breathe. BetweenRead more

5-0 out of 5 stars The real deal
This live album from Bob Marley and his band The Wailers was my introduction to Bob Marley and reggae music in general. It promptly turned all preconceived ideas I had about reggae inside out. From that moment on, I was a believer. The first time I saw this album, I was thinking to myself, "Reggae, what's so special about that? It all sounds the same, anyway."How wrong I was!
5-0 out of 5 stars YOU MAY ONLY NEED ONE BOB MARLEY CD IN YOUR COLLECTION
If that is the case, then let it be this one. Myself, I enjoy Bob Marley for what I see as therapeutic purposes. Chill control. That guy is the most chill guy that there ever was, mon. Don't be knocking. Only an A-hole would bring disrespect down. Personally, my collection has TWO Bob Marley Cd's. This one here and the earlier release CATCH A FIRE. I know I'm missing lots of hits and what not, but, man... dig this record. The hits mean nothing after this one. THIS IS THE GREATEST... its live, yeah, don't think twice about it. These are by far the most passionate versions of every one of the songs on here. This is the absolute best material he ever put out. NO WOMAN NO CRY... awesome, puts tears in my eyes...BURNIN AND LOOTIN... killer, studio version has nothing on this one... BELLY FULL.. way better than the studio... you get the picture so far? The album may not be as long as say LEGEND... but as a whole, this is quality, not quantity..this album is just right.

4-0 out of 5 stars 4.5 Stars.... Marley's (commercial) breakout album
Bob Marley was making critical waves but not until the release of "Live" in 1975 did he also break through commercially.

    5-0 out of 5 stars I'm happy.
I am a long time RBF fan.I've listened to every release they have, Turn the Radio Off still being my favorite throughout the years. We're Not Happy, I must say may be better than Radio. It's atleast on par.The album starts out great wtih The Fire, and doesn't let up at all.Reel Big Fish has always prided themselves in being a great cover band.I still think the lounge version of "Hungry Like the Wolf" I have by them is 10 times better than the original. This album includes Revolution by Tracy Chapman, Story of My Life by Social Distortion, and We Hate It by Morrisey, and they're great. That's not to say they're necessarily BETTER than the originals, but they're definitely RBF's own take on them, and I like it.The fist two are both songs I've listened to a lotgrowing up.In addition, it seems the band has really improved in their songwriting, with some creative bridges.I've had this album since it came out, so it's been a while since I've played this album a lot, but when it first came out, I dont' 'think I listened to anything else for about 2 weeks.I'm listening to it now as I write this, and It's still awesome.RBF should be proud of this release. It's definitely a great improvement over Cheer Up.I give this album 5 stars.I don't think it's a perfect album in the grand scheme of all albums in the world, but rather it's pretty much perfect for them. It's really much better than I thought it would be.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rock on forever, Reel Big Fish!
I'm a newer RBF fan, but I have to say this CD is my FAVORITE CD right now!! It rocks! When I got this CD, it was the only thing I listened to for about three weeks. I know some people think it isn't as good as other albums, but I have to say this: Just because this CD isn't good as others doesn't make it a bad CD. "The Fire" is a great opening song but sometimes the lyrics are hard to understand. "Drinkin'" was an excellent song as well; very power chord heavy. "Don't Start A Band" was definitly a standout track with great lyrics and sound. "A-W-E-S-O-M-E" was pretty good but the vocal distortion seemed kinda pointless. "We Hate It When Our Friends Become Sucessful" was a short but fun cover. "Turn The Radio Off" was one of my favorites. This track was pretty much perfect! "Talkin' Bout A Revolution" was also a good cover but not the best song ever. "The Bad Guy" is one of my favorite songs as well with good lyrics. "Story of my Life" is another one of my favs with a very cool sound to it. I don't care too much for "The Joke's On Me." "One Hit Wonderful" and "Last Show" were a pretty good tunes but not as good as some of the other songs on this album. I don't like "Say Goodbye" too much either. "Your Guts (I Hate 'Em)" made me laugh the first time I heard it. Though I don't get what's up with all those weird sound effects and noises at the end. This is a great album. BUY IT NOW. ... Having been born in '86, I unfortunately did not yet exist to experience the late '70's punk movement or was too young to be part of the '80's hardcore years. Instead, I got to grow up with the MTV generation.... how so very lucky I am.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Ranglin classic
This album makes really your day or night! It's honest. It has a lot of emotions, a mid-groovalistic-reggae-jazziz tempo, travelling mood and a lot of guitar magic-riffs. An Ernest Ranglin's classic.

5-0 out of 5 stars perfection
Ranglin first gained the world's attention in the 60s when he played a major role in developing Ska, and in this album his music still sounds fresh and exciting. The back-up group consists of acoustic bass, drums, percussion and famous Jamaican pianist Monty Alexander. My personal favourite tracks have to be 'Surfin', 'Below the Bassline' and the Reggae classic 'Ball of Fire' with outstanding sax solos by the mighty Ronald Alphonso. A stunning blend of Ska, Reggae & Jazz, Definetly worth checking out.

    5-0 out of 5 stars I'm hooked
The songs are tight but playful. The musicians are having their say while contributing to the group. One of the best music purchases I've made this year. Get it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars surprised
surprised to see them cover a song of the legendary Bob Dylan....but how isnt influenced one way or the other by the best ever.

4-0 out of 5 stars Something borrowed...
While this album is really good, it is not their best work, but it is still heads and shoulders above what most bands are able to produce. My only real gripe is that fact that about half the album is material they already released on an ep.It is not a unique tactic to put out an album quickly, but it is still disappointing.
5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible
Next to Redlight, this is probably the best album the Slackers have released. There are simply no bad songs on the album. The album is slightly more political, including the songs "Propaganda" and "International War Criminal" that both reflect opinions about the "war on terror."The album's diversity is amazing, however. The traditional Slackers ska sound we all know and love is apparant in "Crazy" and "Peculiar".However, one of my favorites on the album, "Set the Girl Free" has a doo-wop feel to it.Overall, this album nothing short of spectacular. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fight Song - Craziest 1:30 minute song out there
This album is really well done.Everyone out there should listen to the instrumental Fight Song! It has some really good drum work on the fast parts of the song, and will get you pumped for anything, especially a fight!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun ska at its best
I love this CD.The Aquabats have a great fun way of playing music and telling silly stories. The CD has a lot of funny songs like The Cat With Two Heads. The entire CD will have you smiling and feeling like dancing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easily Their Best
Although none of their albums are bad, this is by far the best one. The Fury of the Aquabats is 13 amazing songs that are hilarious and great to sing along to as well as 2 cool instrumental songs and one song im not crazy about (Attacked By Snakes). If you have the slightest liking for ska, funny music or just upbeat, fun music that makes you happy then this would easily be my number one reccommendation for you. All you need to do is pop it in and no matter how you were feeling before... you are guaranteed a smile after the first couple of seconds of Super Rad. It is just impossible to be sad when listening to these guys. My favorite songs are Super Rad, Red Sweater, Captain Hampton..., Story of Nothing, Idiot Box, My Skateboard, Lobster Bucket & Theme Song. This not only their best album but one of the best ska albums as well. ... Read more

    4-0 out of 5 stars [LEFT-OVERS] ARE ALWAYS GOOD IN {FOOD} & {MUSIC}
THE GREAT THING ABOUT THIS CD IS.
5-0 out of 5 stars Everything In Time
First off, I would like to say that I love No Doubt (but though I love Gwen, and her music is good in its own way, I think that the solo career was a mistake). I think that they are the most talented band of all time, certainly the most talented band that I have ever heard. I just started to love No Doubt recently, and ordered all their CDs. Though this is a CD of B-Sides, I think that it is one of their best and that the songs should have all made it onto the records they were written for.

No Doubt is one of those bands that trys new things, but still acts like.....themselves! They don't try to be someone that everyone likes, they just act like who they really are, and if fans don't accept them, then....fans don't accept them....but, saying that I would also like to add, that not everybody has the same taste---and therefore, don't always like the same genre of music.. but all I wanted to point out, is that Gwen is a beautiful hearted girl, and she loves being an artist and preforming and all that stuff.........this CD is one of the best that I've listened to in a really...really long time!!!! If you don't consider buying this CD, you're crazy! ... Read more

    Editorial Review

When Bob Marley and the Wailers recorded their legendary 1975 London gig, little did they know of its lasting power. From the opening shuffles of "Trenchtown Rock" to the rabble-rousing "Get Up, Stand Up," this brief recording captured Marley's combo of critical invective and languid musical power. The rhythm team of Aston and Carlton Barrett make time-keeping splendidly melodic as Marley's gently scouring voice gets woven in with his backup vocalists in a mellowly dazzling display. On fire, the band jumps into the discovery of its power without regard to keeping the songs tidy or reflective of anything other than the moment of execution. No matter the years between its original release and the present, this recording will always breathe. Between Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Get Up, Stand Up
Along with the Who's LIVE AT LEEDS and the Rolling Stones GET YER YA-YAs OUT, Bob Marley's LIVE! stands as one of the greatest live LPs ever recorded.5-0 out of 5 stars London burning!
Critical acclaim AND commercial success in one album, finally! Bob's earlier albums had achieved one or the other but not both. 'Catch a Fire' and 'Burnin' were well received in Europe, but less so in Jamaica, especially the former. 'Natty Dread' was welcomed with rapturous praise in Jamaica, but had a short life on the UK album chart. Singles from these albums were selling fairly well, specifically 'Get up, Stand up', 'I Shot the Sheriff' and 'No woman, no cry', but still it was only singles.5-0 out of 5 stars when it hits, you feel okay
I enjoy this superb performance very much. The crowd is receptive and lively. The band is playing tight but loose raggae in a way that only pioneers of the sound are able.Bob Marley is in fine form.He is responsive to the energy of the audience.I find his ironic music engaging with its bouncy rhythms supporting serious, sometimes disturbing, lyrical content. If you have an interest in the music of Bob Marley from the early seventies, this CD will be interesting to you ... Classic Five iron. and it got to me fast and brand new! thanks for the good service! five iron frenzy rocks!

4-0 out of 5 stars Upbeats & Beatdowns
It was a better than average album and I enjoyed it. I believe it ranks three in their best stuff.

4-0 out of 5 stars A little inconsistent, but a lot of fun to listen to
This album contains a good portion of Five Iron Frenzy's best songs, including their consensus best song, "A Flowery Song." There are some tracks I find a bit annoying, boring, or repetitive in the middle of the album, but the beginning and the end make it worthwhile. A lot of the songs won't be the type to be your favorite song, but they're enjoyable to listen to. Not just that, but unlike a lot of ska, Five Iron Frenzy songs often make you want to sing along. The lyrics are actually a bit heavy with political and social commentary, but that's easy enough to ignore if you want to.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent crossover of styles and talent
Entertaining and enjoyable listening.Nice remakes of classic Reggae songs using some crossover artists.

5-0 out of 5 stars A straight shot of feel good music
I didn't know Toots at all, but read a magazine review and gave it a chance.Boy have I been missing some great music.I listen on my commute home and arrive feeling happy and "cool" by association. If you love blues, Buffet, or Bonnie, this sound will hit you where you live. Not just for Reggae fans.Stop reading this and buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet and Dandy!
Unlike one reviewer who sounded like he never did love Toots, this is one of my favorite albums by Toots and the Maytals and I have been listening to them for *many* years.Toots has never sounded better and he made all of the other artists who played along with him on the CD put in some of their finest performances, as well. There is hardly a track on here I don't love, but Still is Still Moving to Me, Pressure Drop, and Sweet and Dandy are some of my favorites... and Blame on Me with Rachel Yamagata (who I honestly had never heard of before) just burns me up.I love it.This is a work of art, unlike some of other compilations which I personally thought were either okay, like BB King's, or sounded like they were just inviting younger musicians to play on their albums to reach new audiences and sell more music, like Santana's.Carlos said he was trying to prove how older people could still get it down, then only invited young women to participate and shake it up.Not Toots, man, he knows what's cool and everyone was invited - young or old, you will love it!!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I agree with Daniel - Joy Division at their rawest and best
Joy Division was a rock band. That comes through on this album. Thesound is raw as is the recording but for me it's the best one, the least compromised one the most rebellious one. Great band never to return. One of those inexplicable "clicked".

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy it, Love it, Be it
I owned this album for two decades as a bootleg tape that got passed around the Berkeley punk scene in the early eighties, and it never failed to become the favorite music of anyone I turned on to it. Joy Division always seems to sound better (to me) at their rawest, and the lower sound quality adds an edge of doom not found on the sanctioned version (of course this could just be that it reminds me of scratchy records). Either way, if you're a fan of "Closer" or New Order, I'm pretty sure you won't dig this. If you were immediately hypnotized by "Unknown Pleasures" like I was at fifteen, this is essential.

4-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for JD fans; this stuff ROCKS!

5-0 out of 5 stars Five Irons Gratest CD Ever!
This Was My First Five Iron CD my second was Chesses of Nazareth. When I first listened to One Girl Army, Oh, Canada, A Flowery Song, Dandilions, Suckerpunch, ansd so on I fell in love with Five Irons sound and had to get all of there cds. There one of my favorite bands and if you haven't got this cd i would highly recomend it. It has the awsomest mix of Five Irons early songs. Which I think are the best.I would give this cd 10 stars but they won't let me.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Quintessential Five Iron? Perhaps
Five Iron Frenzy makes a solid compilation of some of their best songs with the release of this live album, which will delight die-hard fans of the Denver ska-core ensemble and curious listeners alike. One of the things that has always set Five Iron Frenzy apart from other groups in their genre has been their unique stage presence and sense of humor, (which encludes dressing as the cast of Star Trek and crowd surfing a giant pinata filled with chili across their crowd) and these qualities are shown in this album. However, apart from the outrageously entertaining gimmicks of their live preformances, Five Iron Frenzy also offers fine musicianship and songwriting which is played out with even more energy than their studio records. These aspects distinguish the band from their contemporaries and make for an exillarating live experience. In short, Five Iron is a dish best ex
