5-0 out of 5 stars Maturing gracefully, while keeping the fun
I don't understand all this talk about the Red Hots "putting down their guns", "hanging their mitts" .. and so on. It's like people are expecting a band to do the same thing for 23 years and produce the same type of music, ignoring the fact that bands and musicians like the rest of us, evolve, mature, change.. etc, the point is few bands do it as gracefully and as fantastically as the Red Hots. Sure some songs sound a little bit more tame "Hard to Concentrate", others sound a little bit more Pop "Especially in Michigan", others more stadium or melodic .. but how many bands you know can deliver something like "Snow ((Hey Oh))". This songs bursts out right after the first single - "Dani California" - as if to challenge the current music scene to produce something that's even close in creativity and musicianship. Then how many bands you can think of can deliver a first grade first-nature funk like "Charlie", or "Hump De Bump", or "Storm in a Teacup". The Red Hots sure have moved in several new directions over the years, but they have managed to keep a large enough distance from anybody else doing the same type of thing, to remainsounding original. This is a band that knows how to feel, chill, go crazy and party in their songs, and this is the type of album Stadium Arcadium is. Buy it, it's unique, double albums rarely come this natural and unbloated.

5-0 out of 5 stars Their BEST album yet!
I am a HUGE RHCP fan and so naturally i was very excited when they came out w/ a new cd and couldn't wait to get my hands on it! I wasn't disapointed when i first listened to this CD, it is TOTALLY AMAZING! There isn't a bad song on it and i simply can't keep it out of my CD player! All 28 songs are incredible and i cant praise them enough!

4-0 out of 5 stars RHCP's Mixed Fortunes
It is with mixed feelings that I review 'Stadium Arcadium'. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are 2.5 decades old and are extreme legends of alternative rock - their style of alternative rock that is. They are the kings of funk, mixing rock with punk as they only can. This album came very much anticipated by all RHCP fans and faced a mixed critical critique by the critics and fans alike. Firstly before I dwelve into the two in one album let me state for the record that the Artwork of this album is the best original idea the band could come up with. I loved the cover and the inside of the package. The back cover could have had a better band photo. But A+ for thought into the cover, very expressive and artistic.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another good album, no signs of fading here!!!!
I bought this album the day it came out, and the more you listen to it, the more it grows on you.Sure, nickelback has a sound that hasn't changed much from Silver Side Up, but that's what many good rock bands do, find a sound and continue to evolve it.This album is multiplatinum for a reason. It bridges gaps over many radio formats and listeners.SO they release different songs to different stations, have many fareweather fans, ect...that is what they are in the music business for, to get their music heard by anyone who wants to listen. I myself prefer the heavier songs on the album. But the album as a whole is pretty solid stuff.
1-0 out of 5 stars Album Number 5 but sounds like "number 2" pun intended.
Title says enough. Rockstar is the last song on the album and it is being played on the top 40 stations. Change the title to Pop star. get them a cover on Teen Dreamz Magazine. "stay skinny"

3-0 out of 5 stars I've said it before; I'll say it again:

Smothered by the indulgence of his rock star ranking, Jack White steps into the eccentricities of the supergroup, and at first glance, this seems to be a band where White's imposing presence could overshadow the rest. Not the case with these Raconteurs. Teaming with fellow Detroit songwriter Brendan Benson and Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler, the rhythm section from Cincinnati band the Greenhornes, White exhales a bit, deferring enough to his mates to make Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have!! Two thumbs up!
THIS is a great album!! I've always been a nominal fan of The White Stripes, but I heard "Steady As She Goes" and it just stuck in my head and I knew I had to buy this CD, and what a great investment it was. I would highly recommend it. The White Stripes are great, but I can only take them in small doses, if you know what I mean. The Raconteurs are different. I can listen to this entire CD over and over.

5-0 out of 5 stars wow!
I came to Amazon awhile back and listened to a couple of tracks, didn't think much of it.A few weeks later, I had some extra cash and decided to buy it, as I love The White Stripes. From the first listen I was blown away. I had heard "Steady as She Goes" on the radio, but the rest of the cd lives up to that song, and surpasses it.Loved the vocals on "Hands," the Middle Eastern flair on "Broken Boy Soldiers," and the silliness of "Intimate Secretary."The rest of the songs are solid, with "Blue Veins" being one of Jack White's best songs ever.Don't know if this is a one and done thing, hopefully not!Saw an interview with Jack and Meg on the Charlie Rose Show, and this guy is for real. What he did with Loretta Lynn was amazing, and I'll buy pretty much anything in the future from him.

5-0 out of 5 stars *****WOW*****
Wow, this is one of the best cd's I have heard in years, not a bad track on here! There are elements of great bands (Zeppelin, Beatles) here but with a modern edge that makes this effort sound almost experimental.Check out Broken Boy Soldiers and Blue Veins, freakin' amazing! The beat on the title track is driving, raw and practically primal.Blue Veins is bluesy with a provocative edge.Run, don't walk to your favorite music store and buy this!Be warned, tho, this cd has teeth, once they sink into you, it won't let go. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Subtly, strangely catchy..brave new world robotic pop..
From the beginning of the title song on Thom Yorke's new solo album, with the grainy piano sample and all, I was prepared to not like this album. This album is predominantly electronic, and I really like electronic music (Warp, Aphex, Global Goon, Boards, Plaid). I even liked Radiohead's last few albums more than anyone I know, most of my friends despise them. But I was hoping Yorke would do something on this "side project" more like old Radiohead, honestly. Right, expectations dashed, and once I got over that, I could appreciate this album for what it is.
5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant. You just have to give it time.
I was immensely dissapointed with this album the first time I heard it. But I kept listening and one day it just clicked. First it was Harrowdown Hill...possibly the best song of the year in my opinion, then "And it rained all night" then slowly every song on this album became a masterpiece, there is a certain gradiousity in this albums simplicity. Seriously, If you like Kid A, Amnesiac, or Hail to the Theif...you will come around on this. One of the top 5 albums I've heard this year.

1-0 out of 5 stars Thom Yorke: no talent big-mouth with nothing to say
Funny how black kids outta Harlem and Watts know the score when it comes to capitalism (it works if you let it) despite having never benefited from it, yet rich white kids view it with nothing short of contempt and disdain, as if "work" were another dirty four-letter word.

tool is weird because it takes all the sounds I was alredy hearing in my head and is able to make it into a song. when I am coming down,(thanx hofman) that whole whine changing pitch is alredy in my head before I even herd this song. so Its getting a chance to reveb in my head. You dont just listine to it. there is an interaction there. it also amazes me how they get that sound. you can challange every band to make new material and you still wont be able to get that sound and it just wont happen. I also like when they try to put tool in a genre. tool should be its own classifacation until further justifacation on this revelation and plausible hesitation w/o retaliation or condemnation............tion

4-0 out of 5 stars Not the best from Tool, but still leagues ahead of anyone else...
Tool are, of course, one of the greatest bands on the planet, and are therefore held to a higher standard than other ordinary 'rock groups'. I think its safe to say they've achieved cult status in the course of their career, and each new release is examined by the legions of Tool freaks like some mysterious artefact discovered on a distant planet. 10,000 days was highly anticipated (to put it mildly), and took its own sweet time getting here. Like many other Tool fans, I bought it immediately upon its release, and... was not disppointed. It doesn't cut as mercilessly as Lateralus, but after repeated listenings, I feel I am only beginning to penetrate its mysteries. A measure of its brilliance when most rock albums these days grow tired within a week or two. The band are incredible on this thing, particularly the guitarist, Adam Jones, who we can now consider as the leading master of the instrument. Maynard is Maynard, and does his thing like only he can. The songs are long, yes, but so what? A band this great needs room to explore and that's exactly what they do, taking us along for a wild ride in the process. Although it doesn't quite reach the heights of Lateralus (what does?) 10,000 Days is a fantastic album (in a really cool package) and no Tool fan will be disappointed. The only niggle I have is that there is a bit of filler on the album which shouldn't be there. Not after five years of navel-gazing and rumination (or were they actually working on their tans on the beaches of Majorca?). If there were two more great songs here instead of the noodling bits, this album would get 5 stars, no problemo. Let's just pray the next one comes a bit quicker... ... Read more

OK, fair enough, Green Day were the first band with the guts to actually call the Bush administration out for what it is (or what they think it is, anyways).I'm puzzled how people can say the lyrics don't even make sense - I have no problem figuring out what the songs are about! That's the lyrical review - 5 stars.I'm not a fan of punk rock so I can't fairly review this CD in musical terms, so I gave it the 3 stars of middle ground. The average # stars is therefore 4 stars.(I wonder if the people who can't figure out the meaning of the lyrics, will be able to follow that.)
1-0 out of 5 stars Brainless, mindless trash...if you like Greenday...you must be a retard.
Green Day is a completely talentless pop rock band.Ths type of music takes no talent what so ever. Its three chords played on a guitar...and nothing more. Then they put those three chords through a bunch of distortion and fuzz boxes to mask the lack of talent.Well Greenday, you little bas.ards didn't fool me with your noisy guitar pop.I know a lack of talent when I hear it, and Green Day are absolutely talentless at playing their instruments. And what are these lyrics anyway?Half the time you can't even understand what these punks are saying because the music is such a noisy guitar pop racket. And whenever the lyrics are audible, they sound stu.pid and don't make any sense."The New Media"?"The Redneck Agenda"?Lyrics like that are such a bunch of pseudo intellectual nonsense that its almost laughable.Green Day are a bunch of juvenile delinquents who probably aren't even old enough to vote, let alone know anything about politics. And the harder they try to be intelligent, the more idiotic they sound.SO Green Day, please stop writing those pseudo intellectual "social commentary" tunes that take no talent. You don't sound smart. You don't sound intelligent.Every word you sing on your pseudo intellectual "rock operas" just shows your ignorance abou t the topic you're writing about.ANd Green Day fans...how can you actually enjoy this noisy, three chord, guitar pop racket? How can you like listening to a bunch of bratty juveniledelinquents from the suburbs shooting their mouths off about politics when their knowledge is limited to riding skateboards, smoking joints, and playing 3 chords on a guitar?I'm begining to think that in order to be a Greenday fan, one must not have a brain cell. After all, that's the only way one could listen to this brainless, mindless cr.ap.Come on Green Day fans, this CD isn't a five star unless you're reta.rded. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Kinks - 'The Ultimate Collection' (Red X)
The title of this 2-CD Kinks compilation says it all,'Ultimate Collection'.Total of 48 tracks for our listening pleasure. Sound quality is over the top, which is to say it is simply S-U-P-E-R-B! The FM radio hits you all have 'etched' in the back of your minds like I do are all here, like "You Really Got Me", "All Day And All Of The Night", "Tired Of Waiting For You" (my personal Kinks favorite), "Sunny Afternoon", the so-so "Come Dancing" (I like the video better than I do the song), "Lola"," Mr. Pleasant" and the unforgetable "Celluloid Heros". Just all around great British Invasion rock&roll. A must-have.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of all the Kinks' greatest hits compilations
This is a quality double CD that tracks the history of one of the most talented and influential groups ever, not just of the 60's and 70's. There are some great "B" sides with all of their major hits included. There are a few songs left out that, if included, would have made this an even better collection - Misfits, 20th Century Man, Destroyer, Low Budget come to mind. But the Kinks have such a vast repertoire' I guess only a boxed set of 3-4 CD's could contain the entire depth and span of their music that many of us would like. But this is a gem for what it is.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Of The Best Compilations Ever For Any Band
This cd, which I have been looking for for ages, is a truly awesome collection of all The Kinks' best stuff. These two discs contain just about everything you need if you only want one Kinks cd in your collection. Everything from "You Reallly Got Me" to "Lola" to "Celluloid Heroes" to "Come Dancing" and so much more is included. There's a great wealth of lesser known tracks (including some Dave Davies solo material) that are just as good as their biggest hits, there's a great essay for the liner notes and the sound quality is pitch perfect.

In an era when pop nihilism fulfilled its dark promise all too regularly, Pearl Jam not only survived, but thrived to become one of rock's greatest bands. This 33-track double-disc career retrospective documents the arc of a career that went from arena and radio triumphs in the early 90's (while Nirvana's promise imploded in the wake of hype, Pearl Jam's crowd-pleasing fame only burgeoned) to the uncompromising, core audience-focused tack that carried the band into the 21st century. Shrewdly compiled by the band into an "Up" disc that chronicles the band's driving, Stone Gossard-Mike McCready fueled hard rock dramatics (including such early career landmarks as "Jeremy," "Alive" and "Even Flow" alongside more aggressive fare like "Go" and "Spin the Black Circle") and a "Down" side that focuses more on Eddie Vedder's brooding, often darkballads ("Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town," "Yellow Ledbetter," their unlikely hit cover of the oldie "Last Kiss"), it's a collection that underscores both the band's range and musical integrity. Though centered largely on the band's pre-Read more

This 2 disc collection is absolutely awesome. I was a HUGE PJ fan in the early 90's when they burst on the scene, but as I got older I drifted away from them. I've recently rediscovered them and wow, what a set! My favorite PJ tunes are here, and they flow great. Yellow Ledbetter, Alive, Even Flow, Dissident, Black to name a few.I'm listening to it now as I write this review, and feeling rather nostalgic. Some great times with Pearl Jam as part of the soundtrack!

Resembling at times a soft-sung Robert Plant, Buckley was an intuitive vocalist capable of dizzying arabesques and choir-boy sweetness. He is joined here by a tight band for 10 tracks highlighting his stylistic range--Pearl Jam bluesy on "Eternal Life," impossibly serene on Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," art-school noisy on "So Real," Led Zep daring on "Mojo Pin." How else can you describe the combination of his beautiful voice and well written music?I can't add anything to the volumes that have been written about this album already. An album with well over 500 reviews that is holding a 4.5 star average must have something going for it.

Jeff Buckley sounds like what Marc Bolan would have sounded like if Bolan had taken Perry Como as his musical muse.Seriously, think about Marc Bolan trying to sound like a '50's crooner and you'll know what Jeff Buckley sounds like.

Gone to soon. What would he have become we will never really know and we are not better off because of his untimely death. An artist with creative vision and the talent to back it up. There is so little of his original music available it is difficult to really understand were he was headed and were his creative would have eventually taken him. The multiple albums of his original music has captured his songs in different stages of develoment and arrangement such that no two versions are completely the same and document his development.

There's always been something a little mysterious about Gomez. Yet no one would mistake them for a dream-pop or shoegazer act. The UK quintet relies too much on acoustic instrumentation (violin, mandolin, harmonica, etc.) and rocks too hard to qualify. In fact, they've never been part of any "scene," British or otherwise. Their debut for Dave Matthews's ATO label, after live set Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Superb!
Am a true fan and finds this album truly eclectic. My favorite track is "girlshapedlovedrug" the story is brillant...the wicked girl. I think that Gil Norton did a great job at production and it's not "Split the Difference" but How We operate stands on its own. And these guys are great live....
4-0 out of 5 stars Folk rock vocal fun!
Gomez has something for everybody on this one.Great lyrics, great music, great arranging--- hard not to like.It rocks, it's whimsical, it's emotive, it's got a beat.Really hard to classify.Track 7, Tear Our Love Apart, is my 8 year old son's favorite song.I've bought 3 more to send to friends.

4-0 out of 5 stars Gomezing
i saw Gomex perform live touring with this album, and although I had never heard tracks from How We Operate I went right out and bought it.I think the best track is "How We operate," by far. There is more energy packed into that one song than into most "high energy" albums. The diversity between songs just shows the wide range of musical abilities within this group. There is variation in style, composition, and musicality in this entire album. "Hamoa beach" and "Tear your Love Apart" are also amazing. This is a must-buy. ... Read more

The Goo Goo Dolls have long since traded the bracing, Replacements-lite abandon of their early days for an ethos of heart-on-their-sleeve emotionality wed to a solid heartland pop craftsmanship that's too easily been casually mislabeled. Superstar producer Glen Ballard (who shares many a writing credit here as well) pushes that latter sensibility to its logical extremes, ensuring a slick sonic experience that won't disappoint those who hitched themselves to the Dolls' wagon circa their mid '90s commercial breakthrough. But there remains a nagging sense that this is a band that isn't pushing itself very hard: even the hook-solid opening single "Stay With You" seems downright cautious. Coupled with Ballard's penchant for polish, Johnny Rzeznik's introspection on "Without You Here" hews close to the center line before Robbie Takac's "Listen" gives the album a much-needed jolt of energy. The album's featured cover, a faithful, contemporary AOR-friendly take on Supertramp's "Give a Little Bit," is emblematic of the Goo Goo Dolls fortunes here: They often seemed boxed in by a past that's not necessarily their own. 1-0 out of 5 stars Man... can you say brainwashed trash?
This is the most ovhyped paltry piece of corporate garbage that has been my displeasure to enter my ears. -_-This album is terrible... not much more to say then that. The muscianship is terrible, the lyrics are more cheesy than you'd believe possible.I mean come on with a title like Let Love In you can basically tell this is the epitimy of all sellout albums.About anything up to before A boy named Goo is great with ACTUAL LYRICS!!!Plus its not a snoozefest they all have great songs to listen to!Guess its bands like this that keep the greedy corporate machine running.
5-0 out of 5 stars Another Great Goo Goo Dolls CD!!!
There are a lot of great songs on this CD...At first I only recognized the hits like "Better Days","Stay With You", and "Let Love In", but then as I listened to the other songs they kept growing on me, and now I can sing the words to all of them! One thing I really liked about this CD, and previous ones like Dizzy up The Girl, and Gutterflower, is that there are so many great songs on each CD. It really seems that Johnny and the boys have taken great care in making sure each song is great, not like some groups where 1 or 2 songs are potential hits, and the rest are filler. I highly recommend that you get this CD!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars What happened?
I will be honest here, I love the Goo Goo Dolls steming from the first album I bought, which was jed.I can understand to really make it in this business you need to be on the radio and the googs have done just that. They have metomorphed their music for the main stream. That part Im okay with, Ive actually enjoyed their previous mainstream albums. However with this one Im just plain dissapointed. It seems like Im listening to a 80's love ballards.Where is the power?Where is the rock? They are all mainly love ballards with no real power to them.I can really only enjoy the first couple of songs on the album and the rest just disgusts me.Even when the guitarist guy (ive forgotten his name) tries to have a go at a ballard its rediculous. He dosent have the voice to be singing those kinds of songs.I really feel they have lost their touch as a band. I am wondering what John was thinking when he wrote this album and put it together.Im really dissapointed. It way to lovey dovey and soft for me ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars BUY IT!!
Are the Red Hot Chili Peppers the best of the alternative-rock bands? This reviewer (who generally thinks alternative rock is an evil corporate piece of crap) says yes. And this is a great way to get into the group, containing all the big songs (Give It Away, Under the Bridge, Suck My Kiss, Breaking the Girl, Californiacation, Scar Tissue, Higher Ground), although there is one big mistake this album makes: WHERE IS THE ZEPHYR SONG? It sure as hell was a hit - in fact, it was a big one. And I loved it, unlike most other big rock hits of 2002. I also would've appreciated Aeroplane, as well as some of the older stuff (Johnny Kick a Hole in the Sky, True Men Don't Kill Coyotes, especially Knock Me Down). But I highly recommend this album, as well as the classic rock and funk that influenced the Chili Peppers.

4-0 out of 5 stars its chili peppers, so you know its good
however, its not what it could be. its missing some notable songs, including their biggest recent hit Can't Stop. it also has some fairly obscure 'hits' like Universally Speaking. however, it is a great album. although it may seem weird to consider the Red Hot Chili Peppers rock legends, they will be elligible for the rock and roll hall of fame in less than 3 years.

2-0 out of 5 stars Red Hot Chili Peppers Greatest Hits not so hot

Everything about Tool's fourth album is an experience, starting with the packaging, which consists of liner credits printed on a translucent plastic sleeve over the CD and a booklet that layers anatomical representations atop one another--the first page pictures musculature and blood vessels; the next, bones; the third, internal organs; and so on. It's worth describing the packaging of Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Some of the best music I've heard
Everything about TOOL is great. They are just geniuses.Everything from the guitar, the baseline, drums, vocals, is good, everything!definetively worth checking them out!
5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful Genius
One of the best albums in my collection.A powerful album with great songs. The title track Lateralus is probably the best song on the album. It doesn't rock as much as Undertow or Opiate, but I think this album captures the true spirit of the band.Get punched in the face with the Grudge, then mellow out a bit, then get hit with Schism and Parabola, then go into 30 minutes of deep trance.Awesome! What a perfect album.I think some of the reviewers don't like this album because it isn't true "Progressive rock". You're right it isn't. But that doesn't mean that the album is a failure. They should try to feel this album instead of trying to desect it.

5-0 out of 5 stars words cannot describe.
what can i say about this album. words cannot do it justice and it seems like everthing's already been said before. i guess i will just be one of the millions by saying that this album is a pure unadulterated masterpiece. it gets that claim for a reason. i think - no, i KNOW that in the future this album will be seen as one of the greatest albums of our time... and in my opinion it is the greatest album of my time. this album is a highly spiritual experience. when you're done listening to it you feel like you've just finished a long meditation... it is cleansing. listen to this album by yourself in dark room with a candle. close your eyes and don't think. just surrender yourself, because wants it starts it takes you over and that's all that you can do. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Listen Again...
I think the Lips suffer a similar fate as all the great acts that constantly reinvent themselves (Dylan, U2, Beatles...).That is that some folk love a certain album so much they want it again and if they don't get it then the band has failed.I have so much love for Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi. No two albums from the last 20 years are so close to me and my own dilemnas.Certainly the song "Race for the Prize"is enough to endear them to any scientist.Which brings us to At War.When I first listened I had certain expectations, immediately met by The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song. Then the rest was so different from my expectations I set it aside. Then in making a mix tape for the Lab recently, I listened again and found myself adding so many of these songs to it!"Yeah,Yeah,Yeah" of course, but also "Mr. Ambulance Driver", "Vein of Stars", and "The W.A.N.D."This album stands proudly for me with each of classics they made since Clouds...But just remember, it wasn't always so.Suddenly Everything Has Changed...

4-0 out of 5 stars Cliche? The Lips?
I'll give this 4 stars for a Lips album, as some of the songs sound like they were tossed off rather than crafted (Free Radicals, for instance). Compared with anything else currently being made, it'd have to be a 5. But what I really want to say is that anyone who dismisses anything the Lips have done as cliche doesn't understand the band. Go back through their entire oeuvre for long, repeated listenings, and you should discover that the Lips have never done anything based on industry or fan expectations, or genre pigeonholes. They do what they want, and it's almost always a combination of undeniable tunefulness, outright goofiness, and masterful musicianship (well, at least in the last decade), with some element of okie (guitar) noodling usually lurking underneath. They can sound like a drugged-out heavy-metal band, Prince, or Floyd, but they're always just themselves.
2-0 out of 5 stars Such a Let Down
I write from the perspective of a life-long fan. This was one of the first modern bands that I loved and I followed their every release from my preteen years onward. They seemed to never miss the mark creatively or sonically, and the increasingly strong imagination and coherence behind each record was only matched by the increasingly complex production. But on this release, they seem to have run out of ideas and melodies and passion. That hurts to say, but it is painfully true. I'll accept this as their auto-pilot record. The reason I give it two stars is because it makes me appreciate Yoshimi, an album I initially viewed as a disappointment in the shadow of the Soft Bulletin, as a proper album (albiet a lateral move). ... This CD has been in my 1000-disk collection for a decade.
5-0 out of 5 stars Two Words......Ear Candy
Okay, to start off this review, I am NOT a kid. In the middle of August I was at the music store browsing for something new. Then I remembered my friend telling me about Tool and saying how great they were. So I decided to give them a listen and picked up AEnima. When I got home, I put the album into my cd player and pressed the play button. At first I felt many mixed emotions, like I thought the album was way too weird but being the person I am, gave the cd a second chance and boy was I glad I did! after about a third listen I started to realise how amazing AEnima really was. A materpiece that is perfect in everyway.
