5-0 out of 5 stars Underrated classic of late riot grrrl
By the time this album was released, the riot grrrl hype was long dead, but most of the musicians involved in the scene were still making music- Heavens to Betsy and Excuse 17 became Sleater-Kinney, Kathleen Hanna was doing her Julie Ruin project, half of Team Dresch formed the Butchies, and Allison and Erin from Bratmobile joined Katherine (Cutthroats) and Nattles (Cutthroats, the awesome Teenbeat band Flin Flon) to form Cold Cold Hearts. The band cut exactly one seven inch and this full-length, which remains one of my favorites of the genre.
4-0 out of 5 stars fun
"Cute Boy Discount" alone is worth the price of admission. Sure, they're not for everyone. You already know who you are and you know your musical tastes are different from the mainstream if you're even considering this cd. It's refreshing to think that they will always remain our little secret from the rest of the grossly pop-stuffed top 40 forty ditto heads.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than Bratmobile
CCH isn't sharper musically than their much more widely acclaimed incarnation Bratmobile, but they are so much funnier. "Omigod she'sprojectile vomiting all over my vintage car!" That inimitable ValleyGrrl voice! I totally adore every moment of this trashy, screechy CD. It'sgross and fascinating like a John Waters movie. Buy this CD cuz it's apiece of crazy genius the likes of which you'll never find anywhere else. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Donnie Is Brilliant
Donnie Vie, John Lennon, Brian Wilson and Freddie Mercury. That's all you need to know. Get any enuff z nuff cd you can and definitely get Just Enough. I wish I could sing with half the emotion of Donnie. He has such a unique voice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Donnie Vie Rules!
I cannot find one song I do not like. Donnie Vie is not only a great singer, he is a brilliant song writer. Track 3 and 9 are really good ballads. I cannot say enough good things about this album. I do wish he would get back together with Enuff 'Z' Nuff..I really don't care if he used drum machines, or what..It isn't about the drums, it's about his voice and the way he weaves his voice through every song with such passion. You will not be dissappointed, purchase it..It's a must have...

4-0 out of 5 stars Amazing pop from Enuff Z'nuff amazing singer
Donnie Vie's Just Enough is an amazing disc. Right from Spider Web through Wastin' Time not a bad tune in the bunch. Better Days and That's What Love Is are the standout tracks. A must have for any Enuff Z'nuff fans. Anyone who is a fan of Beatlesque hooks should check it out. It would be a five star rating except you can tell it is a low budget record. With better production this is a five star record. Highly recommend this album. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Quite possibly the world's best album
Generally speaking, compilations are risky - you may only like one or two songs and hate the rest. For the low price of this cd, however, I decided it was a safe risk. I was ecstatic to find I was right. Covering a wide range of musical styles, the cd contains tracks by such seasoned indie veterans as Sleater-Kinney, the Bangs and Jim Carroll, and introduces other lesser-known acts on the Kill Rock Stars label. 5-0 out of 5 stars totally rocks!
This is the first Babes in Toyland CD that I ever bought.I was very lucky to find it at Borders, and this was the only one they had. So,I popped it in,and after a few listens,I really became into the CD.Favorite songs of mine on this CD are the live versions of "Bruise Violet", "Spun","Right Now" and "Ripe".Other great tracks to listen to are "Fake Fur Condom", "BlueBell","Sweet 69",and of course the mindblowing, pulsating "Eye Rise",with an amazing, bone chilling guitar solo by Kat and pain-drenched vocals. This CD is a must have for first-time Babes listeners,as you will find different degrees of their raw sound. It helped me decide on which Babes CD to get next.(I now have four, with another on the way! The sad thing is,is that most of the Babes in Toyland CDs you have to order from online.Good thing my birthday is just under 6 weeks,so maybe I'll be getting a Babes CD for it!I recommend this CD to any newcomers to the Babes sheer geniusness. Also, pick up "Fontanelle"if you get a chance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Necessary for Babes fans
There has been an avelanche of Babes in Toyland albums come out in the past year or so, with nothing other than price to distinguish them from one another. This is another entry in the pile, with live tracks, an early single, and a few unreleased songs thrown together into a nineteen track collage of the band's history. Read more

The self-titled EP from Shoplifting recuperates the riot grrl sound with a fervor all their own. Serrated vocals fray over seesawing dissonant guitars, pairing the dark weirdness of Emily's Sassy Lime with Fugazi's now-infamous discordance. The track "Raw Nails Now" has all the markings of a chase scene. It dodges through alleys and vaults over chain-link fences, sidling out from around a corner only to break across a parking lot.

This is an excellent album, although, of course, I am biased a bit. Sleater-Kinney is my favorite band. I love how they make such an effort to never "duplicate" any of their previous records!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best By Far
I have been listening to all of Hole's and Courtney's work for the past week, and my opinions have changed drastically.I thought Live Through This was her best work by far.No it isn't.Four songs on that release do stand as aces, but the rest is filler.Above average filler, but filler.Beyond that are the duds, "Credit In The Straight World" and another song I forget the name of.I like Celebrity Skin better. Its only weak song is the title track and it isn't terrible, the rest is great with "Awful" and "Northern Star" equalling "Gutless" and "Rock Star".The rest is filled with well written memorable songs. That leaves the disposable "Teenage Whore", I mean Pretty On The Inside and her best by far America's Sweetheart.Every song on the masterpiece builds from the previous tune and they all are tour de forces. An exercise in brilliant songwriting that ends with the only dud, "Fly", skip this and you are left with a perfect CD.If you want to ignore this CD or put it down because you hate Courtney I could care less, but you are the one losing out, and why would you buy it in the first place?

5-0 out of 5 stars The widow Cobain rips off the scabs and starts singing again
Undoubtedly it is because I watched the film "Sylvia" right before I first heard this album, but when listening to "America's Sweetheart" it suddenly struck me that the story of Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain is the flip side of what happened with Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes. She is talented but he is more famous and her first great success is overshadowed by a suicide. You can read this as an argument that if Hughes had been the one to end his life that Plath would still have achieved prominence, because what matters in this world is that you get people to look at or listen to your work. It has been a decade since Cobain ended his life with a shotgun blast and Hole's "Live Through This" achieved acclaim as much through the notoriety of its apparent prescience as its powerful punk sound. Since then the widow Cobain's career has been a long line of tabloid scandals with not much to show on the musical side of the ledger. Well, boys and girls, that is all over now.
5-0 out of 5 stars Courtney Rocks! But is Mono her only single????
I do love her solo cd, I have been the biggest HOLE since 1993, I've followed her career the whole way! The only song on America's Sweetheart that is actually really bad is Life Despite God, All the rest are good and catchy! I really like HELLO and BUT JULIAN IM A LITTLE OLDER THAN YOU! NEVER GUNNA BE THE SAME AGAIN is also a good song!!! The only problem i have is WHY has she only released MONO as a single, its been 5 months! Whats going on....I know Hold on to me was her next single but she didn't make a video for it or anything, Probably all her legal issues and her problems she been having :( I hope she gets herself together and releases another single!!!!!!!!!!!!This is getting retarded!!!! Editorial Review

For the turntable-challenged, Kill Rock Stars has released this diverse collection of cuts off various singles the label released between 1991 and 1994. This predominantly Northwest-flavored comp starts quietly with Elliott Smith's "Some Song," then rages to a close with Unwound's "Hating in 'D'." In between are strong cuts from Bikini Kill, Heavens to Betsy, Pee-Chees, Team Dresch, and several others. What separates this from so many other mediocre compilations flooding the market is that it highlights the best song from each single, sort of like an indie rock version of one of those '70s and '80s K-Tel "best-ofs." Outside this comp, however, most of these songs can only be found on the original Kill Rock Stars singles. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Third Sex - Card Carryin'
This is some great lowish-fi, punk-rock n' rollish, flat out catchy tunes.I actually found this in a pawn shop and bought it out of sheer curiosity.Underproduced, overquirky, but just right. You'll like it, unless you don't...but I think you will anyway.

4-0 out of 5 stars yay!
This was awesome, I don't even like punk rock and I was totally mesmerized by the passion and talent put into The Third Sex.If only they were still together!I'd love to see them live. Some of the tracks (particularly 6 and 12) I've just been listening to over and over, Trish and Peyton's voices are so appealing.
