4-0 out of 5 stars Get it for the Jawbreaker song!
If it wasn't for Sea Foam Green, this CD would only grab three stars.Man, this is the essential driving song. "I sleep with both hands on the wheel, white knuckle weekend". The lyrics speak of a confusinglong-distance relationship. Released between the 24 Hour Revenge Therapyand Dear You albums, and the sounds fits right in there...energy + niceproduction. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars chicagopunkrawk OWNS
chicago punk has its own gritty rough sound, and the cd showcases it well. the tracks by the arrivals, alk3, the dishes, the ghost, rise against are amazing. if you like chicago punk rock youll like this. if you dont kno chicago punk rock, check it out, this city has seriously some of the best bands in the country. the tracks by duvall and plain white ts are weak, but what else did you expect, polished pop bands arent gonna sound very good recorded in an oil factory. thick records put out some other great comps too, "love and rebellion" and "magnetic curses" so i would say if you dig this check those out too.

5-0 out of 5 stars You see, Back in the day.........
Back in the day, hip hop was flourishing and that was undeniable. That time brought out some awesome songs.....all of which are faithfully redone here on this cd. Every track is tight especially "express yourself" and "baby got back". Most of the bands on this cd you may have never heard of, but dont let that keep you from buying this. It is an awesome cd! It was hard to find out where i live, then again i live in ALABAMA! If u have trouble finding it ask the people in the cd store, they will know where to find it. Anyways, this cd is the best Hardcore collection i have ever heard.....Dont delay, buy it today, you wont be disapointed....i promise.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of the current Punk and Hardcore scene
From raging hardcore to post punk, old school punk and rapcore 'Songs' has it all.A truely incredible album, exposing the listener to an onslaught of different musical styles that all fit together.Recommeded, and youcan't beat the price for a 21 song CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars This CD is really cool if you like good punk/hardcore stuff.
I really like this CD. It's got a lot of cool bands on it like GhotiHook,Slick Shoes,The Cootees,90 Pound Wuss, and Project 86. The rest of thesongs are really good too. All of the bands on this CD are christian incase you didn't know, but if you're not for that stuff don't let it disturbyou. None of these songs are really preachy or anything like that, it'sjust cool.Try to get it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Music
I bought this CD because it featured songs from many D.C. bands that don't have records in print any more such as RAIN, and KINGFACE.I was not disapointed.Highlights of the compilation (for me) are Anger Means by Ignition, Worlds at War by Rain, and the acoustic Swan Street by Three. Some of the music is pretty poor, but it is easily made up for by the power and intensity most of these bands perform with.It is difficult to find music like this anymore.Get a copy before it goes out of print.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great DC Comp
If you are wondering what the DC scene was like back in the late 80s and early 90s pick up this comp. Its an incredible slice of the scene at that time and represents some of the best emo/punk bands on the East Coast. A couple of the songs don't appeal to me but the tracks by Ignition, SoulSide, Marginal Man, and Fire Party stand out. When this came out I picked up a copy and played it constantly for months. Even now, 11 years later, I still break it out every few months and listen to it with the same excitement I did then. ... Read more

I heard "Streamlined" in the movie Blair Witch II, and I had to have it.It wasn't on the soundtrack, of course, so I had to really search for it.I really love this CD, because its one of the best albums of this genre. You don't have to be die hard fans of either bands to like this cd, but you WILL be a die hard fan after hearing it.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a GREAT comp
I was turned on to this cd by a good friend. I especially liked the track by VENA CAVA. What a great band. This San Diego trio really rocks. I have seen them live and I can't wait to hear more studio work from them. Another good one was the track by The Thumbs. This band from DC has always been a favorite and it's cool Adeline has continued to work with them. If you like new music, don't hesitate to pick up this disc. ... Read more

There are some great (and by great I mean obscure and not often seen) tracks on this one. i would love to buy it but that isn't going to happen. If it's copy protected its useless to me, all my music is on Ipod or burned on mp3 CD-R's for the car. 4-0 out of 5 stars Great split
I've never been a huge fan of Kill Your Idols, and these songs didn't really change my mind.A lot of people I knew were really into this band, but they always seemed too dull and repetitive for me (even when they're playing live...I've seen them three times and their nice dudes, but c'mon...).That said, three songs is really enough from this band at any time. But, on the flip side (if you're keeping it real with the vinyl), you get three songs from the mighty Nerve Agents. The first one, "Planet Frankenstein" is just completely crushing with a huge sing along chorus that gets the kids jumping around.Their second cut, "Dead Man Walking," is more of the same, though a bit tougher (this song also appears on "Days of the White Owl").The last cut is the real gem - a faithful, yet updated cover of David Bowie's "Suffragette City."The Nerve Agents were one of the best punk/hardcore bands, so you can't really go wrong with this release, and if you're more into Kill Your Idols than I am, so much the better for you.

3-0 out of 5 stars BUY VINYL
Not bad, a decent sampling of both bands. The covers rule... but the songs are kind of weak coming from two really great bands.for those of you who don't know these bands, both are newschool copying oldschool thrash bands akin to Negative Approach or the like.overall, worth having - but not worth the price of the CD... dig up the 7" if you really must own this.

2-0 out of 5 stars Just Because it Sounds Old Doesn't Mean it is Any Good
Some of the most boring guitar riffs that only a hardcore band could bring you. This record also has some of the most bland and untalented vocalist in popular hardcore. Andy (the singer) was probably a gas station attendent before he joined a band. You want old School buy Agnostic Front. If you want politics, read the New York Times or buy a good book. If you want talent, listen to Bach. But for the sake of somthing admirable, don't buy this. These guys play like they are 14. ... Read more

This CD, though at a very reasonable price, packs a lot of punch. A wonderful blending of different bands and an excellent CD. I've always liked mixes because you're able to get a sampling of many different bands, which this CD does very well. It gives a few song from each of the bands so you can really feel what the band is like. Definitely worth buying.

This CD is a must for the collections of Hsker D fans everywhere. The bands on this compilation do a great job of adding their own talent to some of Mould, Hart and Norton's greatest songs. From Motorpsycho's hardcorehead-banger cover of "New Day Rising" and Engrained's grungy"I'll Never Forget You", to the laid back, 'unplugged'"Hardly Getting Over It" by Baysix, Hsker D's broad musicalspectrum is well represented in this eclectic collection.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good bands + good songs = good CD
Since this CD has no proper review (and, annoyingly, no way of knowing who's on it) I'll fill you in.It features 4 new songs from 4 different bands, all with an edgy pop-punk style.Screeching Weasel you all know,Moral Crux have been around so long with their stand-out brand of politicalpop-punk that you SHOULD know them, the Teen Idols have grown increasinglypopular in recent years with their greaser pop-punk pedigree, and Enemy Youare the underdogs here with their Bad-Religion-meets-The-Vindictives stylesound. All 4 bands are top-rank, talented, credits to their genre (theoft-maligned "pop-punk") and deserve to be featured on a 4-waycomp like this. They are leagues better than most, and show it by comingthrough with terrific songs. So, in short, if you have even a remoteinterest in pop-punk, then pick this up without hesitation. In fact, ifall pop-punk were this good, it wouldn't have the shabby reputation that itcontinues to be plagued with.

4-0 out of 5 stars not weasel's best, but enemy you...
i was a bit disappointed with the four screeching weasel songs, which don't really live up to their usual standards, and moral crux was whiney and boring, but then enemy you comes on. their four songs alone make thisCD worth the purchase. they're all better than anything on "where noone knows my name" also. the teen idols songs which wrap it up are funand energetic, if a bit conventional, but the female backing vocalistthrows an interesting curve in to the mix, and overall they still show upsw's tracks. buy it, and just start at track nine. you won't bedisappointed. ...
