4-0 out of 5 stars Not the best Punk-O-Rama!
It has its high points, but some real stinkers contaminate it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Easily the best Punk-o-Rama
This introduced me to the world of Epitaph punk. Good thing it was like 8 years ago instead of now because Epitaph sucks now.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not great.
I dont get why this got so many bad reviews.Sure its not exactly Punk but it does have a few quality tracks and for 15$ for 33 tracks whos complaining. This Compilation features some of "modern"punks most high profile bands Rancid,NOFX,Bad Religion,Pennywise,Millencolin,Tiger Army,No fun at all.But its not all good,God knows what the Hell Epitaph were thinking when they signed Matchbook Romance. If your a fan of Epitaph bands its probably worth the small price,If you are a punk "purist"this will just infuriate you.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cheapcashin-O-Rama
This is the poorest collection of "punk" songs I have ever seen put together, if you are looking for a real punk compilation rather than the trash you hear on the radio AND the trash produced by labels such as Epitaph who are just as much in it for the money then buy something like "100% Hardcore Punk" (goto www.interpunk.com). Only settle for buying a compilation if it is the last thing you do! Most of the songs on the punk-o-rama series are not even remotely punk anyway; a lot of what is put onto the compilations is emo just to sell the record to a wider audience. Sod that for a laugh, emo is not punk; emo goes against almost everything punk is for. Musically, I'm sure it's great (!) but as the majority of people reviewing this album are saying "buy it because it's so much more punk than anything you've bought before" I will review on this basis aswell. Buy some A Global Threat, Aus-Rotten, Unseen or Crass and get into some real punk rock rather than this garbage produce for MTV2.

1-0 out of 5 stars NO!
I just got this punk o rama from a friend, and its not a very good cd at all, in fact, it sucks.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
This album is ok but no big deal. It's not the greatest punk comp. Cd in the world but it's fun and it's [inexpensive], so I say buy it if it's the only punk comp in the store (I even saw this one at [my local store]). I think they should start putting live tracks on Punk O Rama CDs, but hey that's just me. Personally I've always preferred "Fat Music For Fat People" Or "Lookout Freakout" better. But like I said it's fun and if you have [money] to burn I say get it, unless you can get your hands on a Fat Music or Lookout Freakout CD. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Mix of Talent
Vagrant has done it again, mixing a great lineup of songs into a cheap comp.Highlights include songs by Hot Rod Circuit, Saves the Day, Audio Learning Center, Dashboard Confessional, Hey Mercedes, The Anniversary, and a song that I actually like by Alkaline Trio.I'd have given this cd 5 stars, but the songs by the Get Up Kids and No Motiv, two band I like, weren't exactly the greatest. Also, A song by Reggie and the Full Effect would've been nice. And Vagrant's lineup still includes Face to Face, so that automatically means that at least one bad song is on this comp.I do recommend you buy this however, because it's cheap, good, and we all have a skip button for when those face to face songs sneak up on us.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, Great Compilation
This CD is just so great.I picked it up for the Saves the Day B-Side "Ups and Downs" (which is the best song on the cd and is worth the 5-10 bucks you'll spend).I was pretty familiar with some of the other bands, but some I had never heard.Every band is represented with a strong track (or two). The music ranges from soft emo, to almost punk, and everything in between.I don't like to "classify" music, but this is some great emo. This Cd is a super way for people to explore more and hear some different bands.Vagrant is a great label, and this is a great comp.A..., must buy for all music fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet CD
This cd is one of the best present emo compilations. It has everthing from the hardercore emo to the more mainstream emo such as Saves the Day and Get Up Kids. Some of my favorites on this record are "Hands Down" by Dashboard Confessional, "nightengale" by saves the day...and tons more. I would have paid 25 bucks for this thing. but i got it for 5. If you are even reading this review, i recommend purchasing this cd ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Mad, Bad, & Dangerous to Know
I'm no expert when it comes to Brazilian music, but I've picked up a few Brazil-oriented CDs over the years, most recently the soundtracks to "City of God" and "The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou" (featuring those great Bowie covers by actor/musician Seu Jorge, aka "Knockout Ned"). This CD doesn't remind me of those releases--or of the music of Caetano Veloso, Os Mutantes, or even Sepultura. Some of the (non-Brazilian) names other writers have mentioned include Gang of Four, Bauhaus, and LiliPUT. I agree. This is the darker end of the post-punk spectrum. Not goth per se, but these folks do sound mad in a Pop Group--as opposed to a Sex Pistols--kind of way. For more Brazilian post-punk, see the Soul Jazz compilation, "The Sexual Life of the Savages."

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing music. Not only for punk funk fans.
Who would have thought that there was such amazing No Wave, post punk, and odd Devo influenced electro-rock going on in Brazil from 1982-88?? That's what this is, a collection of some obscure art rock, no wave and odd pop from Brazil during the mid-80s. I'd say these bands are more new wave than no wave but that might be splitting hairs. The influences are wide including more standard new wave, like Gary Numan and Devo and even some psychedelic sounds. Unlike a lot of American No Wave the funk and reggae influences are no there. Instead you'll find some Trapacalia influence (track 2 could be a Tom Ze track) and some sounds like that of XTC.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent post punk CD.
When you thought you heard it all in post punk, comes this CD compilation with impossible to find post punk from Brazil. Yes, they had their very own post punk scene down there, that incorporated what happened in New York, Berlin and London during the early Eighties. Mixing the styles from the North with their very own Brazilian music elements, bands such as AKT, Agentss, Black Future created the most exciting form of post punkl. Imagine Joy Division with batucada beats, A Flock Of Seagulls with a samba feeling - all to be heard of Nao Wave. A true musical revelation. I love it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars --
I laugh at those of you who don't like this cd because it has songs by liberal bands. Why did you even bother buying this if you are in support of Bush? The title should have given you a hint as to what kind of message it was sending out...

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
This cd rocks! I didn't like Bush since he became our leader and I still don't like him now! I love the way all the artists came together and made this cd. The song Favorite Son by Green Day is great. it's on of those songs that just gets stuck in your head because it's so catchy. Also Green Day is one of the best political bands that I've heard and met. So to wrap up what I'm trying to say is: this is a great cd, all the songs are catchy except for mabey one, the message that this cd is giving out is that Bush sucks. He might be the worst president ever!, This cd is great and it is one of the best cd's I've heard in a long time. So you should get it.

5-0 out of 5 stars good compileation
this is a very good compileation of classic alt/rock artists to relitivley new people, all with very good songs. many exclusive/new tracks, that if you are a fan of the band you definatly want to get. (i got it for 'favorite son' and ended up loving all of it). also sends out the message of punkvoter.com and against the criminal/ingornat bush administration. comes with a dvd that includes some great music vidoes, very hilarious comedy bits(by will fereal, greg proops, and patton oswalt), and informative political shorts. highly recomend it if you are pro-peace, anti-bush, a punk music lover, or all of the above. ... Editorial Review

This is not your father's Christmas music. Or even your little sister's Backstreet Boys sugarplum-fairy dream dancing in her head. But it is a galvanizing collection of 18 cuts deep in the heart of the season, by some of the finest punk bands from rock's '70s and '80s days of rage. As much a profile of the legendary bands that made the music world safe for alternative rock a decade later, Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Dee Dee drank our Xmas money
This is a pretty good collection of punk Christmas songs. It opens with a fun novelty song that is not by a real punk band. Then we move on to the real punks. The quality of the material varies, but some of the best cuts are contributed by the Dickies, Sloppy Seconds, the Greedies and (naturally) the Ramones. But my personal favorite here is "Homo Christmas" by Pansy Division, which is hilarious.I have to mention the contributions by a couple of guys who are not usually associated with the punk genre.El Vez, the "Mexican Elvis", performs a surprisingly credible thrash punk version of "Feliz Navidad".And Mojo Nixon performs an unsurprisingly sloppy rewrite of "Louie Louie" called "Christmas Christmas".It's not really punk, and it's not really good.It sounds like an outtake from Mojo's lousy Christmas album, although it's not.If you are a fan of punk, especially "old school" punk, you should enjoy this.

My friend just bought this CD (and volumes 1 and 3 too) and it's AWESOME!!!It's a 2-CD set and we both prefer the second CD to the first (although that one's good too)!!!The highlights have to be "Powder" by Yellowcard and "Up to Me" by Movielife!!!It's awesome and there are tons of songs!!!If you like this one, I would recommend you to check out volumes 1 and 3 also ... they rock just as hard!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect!
Now this is very good. A CD set with some of the best post-punk material to come out of Liverpool and Manchester. there is unfortunately some great overlap with the Martin Hannett story CD but this set is overall more satisfying since it is more varied and also contains more stuff as well as a few rarities that everybody will appreciate. Indeed, in additioon to Buzzcocks, the Fall and New Order, which were obvious choices there are also some old favourites like Ludus, Crispy Ambulance and Big in Japan that merit to be heard. If you are interested in thie very special period in british music history then this is an essential acquisition. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars There isn't a better way to spend $14.
I just got this CD a few weeks ago, and I think it is great. These charities are very deserving of the money.I am a little disappointed that only 3 others have reviewed it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great cd, with great heart, for a great cause....
After losing both my parents to cancer in 2002 & 2003 (Breast for my mom and Leukemia for my dad) I have made it my personal goal to do what ever I can to support finding a cure for cancer.I do the charity walks, were the ribbons, and am conscious about my purchases when they are benefiting this cause. This is why I gave this cd 5 stars. Not only is the music awesome, but it feels great to know that it is reaching beyond my own ears. Most of the other compilations out there supporting this cause are more mellow and mostly ballads (which are great and I also own), this cd is for the love of rock.I plan to buy more for Christmas gifts.Coincidently this cd is for the "younger" crowd and spreading the word to that crowd is key because you can not be "too young" to develop cancer.

5-0 out of 5 stars worth every cent
everyone should own this comp because A) proceeds benefit various cancer organizations and B) the bands are awesome. All of the acoustic tracks, whether is be Staylight Run/TBS/Motion City Soundtrack etc., are worth the 11$ are their own. Also, i think comps. give people the opportunity to hear some bands they may never find on their own (like Murder By Death).Overall this cd is an excellent buy and worth ever cent. ... Editorial Review

Power pop was one of those things that just had to be, somehow--an attempt to recapture the giddy feeling of '60s pop with the energy of punk. So how come it wasn't new wave, anyway? Simply put, to a lot of people, it was. And here, in one place, you can hear some of the early (and a few later) tracks that defined the genre. "Early" often translates as crap ideas and execution, and of the 26 tracks on this compilation, there are more than a few that fit that category--The Romantics, for example. But there are some tidy little things on this release--The Plimsouls (possibly the best power pop band ever), 20/20, and the eternal Shoes. Cheap guitars, three chords, and enough enthusiasm to run a nuclear power plant; funny how the basics of rock & roll never change--only the tunes and the tie widths. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A very good compilation of power pop!
All of the tracks on this collection are NOT"from the 80's" as mentioned in a previous review. Also, the same review implies that the songs here are "filler" and stated that the omission of more commercially successful tracks by the Romantics and Plimsouls was "very telling". All of these comments are incorrect, this is a ROOTS compilation and features EARLY tracks by the featured artists.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not Really "Roots" of Power Pop - More Like the B-Sides
Not much of collection - essentially the scraps of the Power Pop Colection barrel. First, since these are all tracks from the 1980's - these are hardly from the "root" era of the power pop movement/sub-genre. But more importantly, while the Plimsouls and Romantics are featured and yes, we really don't need yet another collection with MILLION MILES AWAY or WHAT I LIKE ABOUT YOU - the fact that those two tracks are NOT on this CD is very telling - Very few people need some filler tracks from the Plimsouls or the Romamtics. There are no hidden gems or forgotten tracks, just a collection of passable power pop tracks from the 1980's - if you're a completist and you don't have the original LP's/CD's, you might want this ...

2-0 out of 5 stars hopeless is goin downhill
is this cd 4 bucks? yes.does it have 'unreased' tracks from a7x? yes.does it have a a7x music video? yes.is is a good cd? no.hopeless has thrown out old bands from previous hd2y, and what did they gain?yellowcard clones, like amber pacific, melee, and stairwell.this definetly isnt a good thing.yeah its 4 bucks, but really the only thing worth it on this cd is the atom and his package song which is why a gave it 2 stars.but hey, some ppl disagree with me, and if you think its worth it to buy this for some wannabe pop bands, go right ahead.

5-0 out of 5 stars 10 Th Anniversry is Beautiful
A Beautiful Record filled with various types of artist who arent similar to each other so it would give you a chance to listen to what type of music they have to play but i am quiet disa-pointed that it was shorter that Volume Four and included less Against All Authority and Melee should get their spot of them being in this record , like new artistes in this record they are wicked as possible but Melee sounds more acrousic than punk . Isnt this supposed to be a Punk Compliation Called " Hopelessly Devoted To You " but where does their type of music come from this decision was up to Hopeless and Sub City records , what a terrible mistake . 3-0 out of 5 stars ALKALINE TRIO SAVED THIS ALBUM!
I have loved the RHPS for as long as I can remember..
1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I'm a huge fan of RHPS as well as a fan of all different types of punk music.I heard this album and was greatly disappointed in it.There were some alright songs but a majority of them were horribly done, ESPECIALLY the Time Warp.I definately do not recommend this to anyone, save your money.

2-0 out of 5 stars Overall, a dissapointment.
Only about 3 or 4 really solid tracks.Perhaps I was expecting a bit much, but when I purchased this album, I was expecting to hear punked up versions of the songs of RHPS, not songs from the RHPS performed by punk bands exactly like it is on the soundtrack, except with the gain cranked up.I wanted to hear songs hard and fast, and based on my experience with the body of work of most of the artists on the compilation, I expected it to be a pretty good cd.The majority of songs on this album are as I said, performed almost exactly the same as the original soundtrack, but that's not really what I feel is advertised. And so much talent on this cd! Man, I was really dissapointed.Really, all a few songs needed was the punk rock gallop on the drums, and maybe kick it up about 10-20 BPM, and would have been a kickin' cd.The stand out tracks are by Apocalypse Hoboken(Performed almost exactly the same, but the vocalist does such an excellent job of it), Luckie Strike, The Secretions(man, they rip the hell out of "In Just Seven Days," the song clocks in at about a minute-twenty, the way it should be.), and the Migraines did a fine job.Me First And The Gimme Gimmes did a nice take on Science Fiction Double Feature, Harmonies were right on, but I would have liked to have heard it about 20 bpm faster. As much as I like the Groovie Ghoulies other works, their rendition of Time Warp is excruciating to listen to.Flat, uninspired vocal delivery, and NO HARMONIES!!!Sucked all the life from such a classic, fun musical number.Pansy Division was awful here.Majorly let down by the Swingin Utters. Some of the songs didn't even last 10 seconds before I skipped them, and I don't usually skip songs on cds.Perhaps my expectations were too high.If you are a HUGE fan of RHPS, but maybe not so much into punk, and just want a slightly different take on the classics, give it a spin.If you want another copy of the RHPS soundtrack, it's an option.Just don't go in with expectations very high. You're likely to be dissapointed.

Lagwagon is awsome to, BUY THIS CD MAN

4-0 out of 5 stars Fat is good.
Good collection.Remake of "California Dreamin'" not as good as I'd hoped it be (really like the original Momma's and Poppa's) but "Country Roads" just kicks it.Thinking of buying stock in Fat Wreck Chords.

5-0 out of 5 stars Punk Rock Greatness!
If you love melodic punk rock, get this CD!All the songs on this compilation are great! This CD is over 5 years old though, so these songs have been out a while. Chances are you've heard them on the full length CDs from each band on here. There are a few exclusives though.Check out the song "Vincent" by NOFX...probably my all time favorite NOFX song! ...
