5-0 out of 5 stars Hard Driving Rage !
Probably my favorite album from this incredible band. Heck, all of their albums are great, I cannot really think of another band with the consistency as Mike Ness and the boys. What I like so much about this album is how hard it is. This album kicks off with a rockin' # and just keeps driving the pace and sound up up up. Mike Ness, you freaking rule!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Record Ever Made
I've been listening to rock and roll and other popular music since 1963. My tastes run from Hank Williams to Chevelle, from Donovan to Type O Negative, from Dinah Washington to Catherine Wheel. I rarely use words like "the best" because "the best" tends to vary over time and with moods - there is just so much good music out there. This recording, however, over the 10 years since its release, has proven itself over time. Ness and Co. set out with a mission: to make a great "punk rock" album. I don't think they did that at all, this isn't even "punk rock" to my ears. What they made is simply The Greatest Record of All Time. It is flawless in its writing, its performance, and its production. I will be forever grateful to them for making it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely gorgeous agony
Being a long time Social D fan, I greatly anticipated the release of White Heat...Mike Ness and co. had gone through some line-up changes and in the process acquired "Master of the Skins" and former Danzig drummer, Chuck Biscuits. This new arrival, while he had never been a core writer or personality in any previous band, made his presence more than known on this cd.The tempo and drumming, put to sadistic use in this collection perfectly matched the atmosphere that Ness created when he wrote the songs. Some may say that this cd is a bit depressing. Those people would be right but Ness's pain, loneliness, and frustration is beautiful to listen to unfold. In point of fact, this cd reminded me of why I love music so much.It allows you to explore the darker side of yourself and not to be afraid of it.Kind of scary, huh?

5-0 out of 5 stars Rare......
It is rare that on the first listen...Ican play a CD straight through and actually like it the FIRST time. It is even rarer for me to feel compelled to sit down and write a review on Amazon.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Raw, Powerful, and Haunting Album
I have to admit that the first time I heard this album, I was a bit taken back. Don't get me wrong, it sounded like Thursday, but it was just so raw and in your face, I couldn't believe it. This album has a really raw, rough around the edges feel to it. But I don't think its a bad thing by any means, it gives it unique feeling. I like when bands create albums that all have unique styles to them. Thursday has done this with A City by the Light Divided, and as a album, they've done a great job.
2-0 out of 5 stars Uninspired
Relative to "War all the Time" and "Full Collapse", "A City by the Light Divided" is a huge disappointment.Maybe it's in the production or maybe the songs are simply not as well written, but the entire release lacks the melody and hooks that are prevalent in the earlier material. The Other Side of the Crash is clearly an attempt to build on Understanding in a Car Crash, but without the urgency and punch. There are a few decent cuts, such as Running from the Rain, but mostly the band sounds uninspired. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Punk Rock's Id
Grading Criteria:
5-0 out of 5 stars What is punk?
Hmmmm, with the exceptions of (wait for it) Green Day and NOFX, there really are no "punk" bands around today.Luckily, we can enjoy THE MISFITS!!!!! This is by far their best album, although Static Age is FANTASTIC.....What more can I say? It's THE MISFITS!!!!!!!GET IT OR DIE!!!!!!Oh, and, if you bash Green Day for selling out, don't forget, the misfits sold out too.I was depressed.

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS REAL PUNK ROCK!!!
Today when you look at punk rock now you see a bunch of whiney idiots singing about their crappy life and how they broke up with their girlfriends etc. Now look back during the 70s and 80s when punk was about real rebellion and other interesting topics. I liked most of the old punk bands but my favorite punk group ever was Misfits. Misfits weren't like The Sex Pistols lyrically. The Sex Pistols were about rebellion against the government. Misfits took punk to a brand new direction, with horror themes. This isn't a scary album though. The horror part is light-hearted but funny as well. Glenn Danzig was a pure genius. A lot of people are scared of him but he is my favorite punk rocker. I do however like his new band Danzig more than Misfits. The songs on this album are very short. Even shorter than The Ramones but still the band with the shortest songs is probably Napalm Death. The whole album is around 21 minutes long which is very short but who cares?! This is just a fun punk album with horror themes and evil lyrics to add to. Sadly Misfits sucked ever since Glenn Danzig left the band. They 2 other vocalists but they sucked bad. Luckily Glenn Danzig is in his new band Danzig which is much more heavy metal than punk. ... Read more

This CD is certainly a good one. It starts off very fantastic for a good portion of the cd, and then i feel as though it fizzles out. I highly recomend this cd if you are thinking about ording it. it is definetly worth the money

4-0 out of 5 stars Smashing, indeed
I am only discovering Gish in 2006 because in the early 90's I was on a self-imposed moratorium from listening to rock music. (long story)Whether this album sounds dated to some or not, it sure sounds fresh to me!
5-0 out of 5 stars Grade "A" music, and maybe ever better......
If you like Rock music and you only settle for the best, buy this album. There are so many reasons why this album is so brilliant. The guitar work is extremely magical and exquisite. On the contrary to the other Pumpkins albums, it's all real performing. By this I mean no drum machines or synthesizers are used. The LSD the Pumpkins were experimenting with at the time obviously acted as a source of inspiration. If your a fan of the Pumpkins other albums, there is no reason you wouldn't like this one{their debut}. All I am really trying to say is get your hands on this record and officially experience it. Crank it up real loud on a quality stereo, find a comfortable place to sit, and let your mind be soothed. If it turns out you hate this record, go see a doctor.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just a great album
Gish in my opinion is by far the best album The Smashing Pumpkins have put out. Using the heavy Underground/Alternative rock sound they make an album that gets your attention, but at the same time using lots of catchy melodies, and well thought out chord changes, The Pumpkins create there own sound that doesn't seem to get overwhelming, boring, and annoying, Like many of the other bands of the nineties. The Overall talent and creativity of all the members seems to fit together and it all just seems to flow smoothly. Even during the lighter three song break of "Crush", "Suffer", and "Snail" the Pumpkins still keep the music interesting and incredibly enjoyable to listen to. A couple things that really stand out to me (not only in this album but throughout the pumpkins entire music career) is the heavy but flawless and smooth flowing drumming of Jimmy Chamberlin. No matter what Billy and the rest of the band comes up with he is always on top of his drumming, always seeming to come up with something for everything. Then there's Billy Corgan's unique and recognizable voice, which he uses to sing his amazing lyrics. And that just adds to everything else to make the whole thing a masterpiece in my opinion. Gish has been one of my favorite albums for a long time now and will continue to be a favorite for ever. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars elvis's 2nd album, one of the best by about anyone
i had been in a deer hunting accident. i awoke in a hospital and down the hall a boombox was playing this album very loudly. i knew everything was going to be okay.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth re-buying
I owned an older CD of this from the 80s, one of his rocking-est albums and my favorite, along with "Delivery Man". The definitely superior sonic remaster (not a lot of obvious re-mixing for a change!), the bonus disc and informative liner notes really made this worth buying. I subsequently bought the other remasters with bonus discs, and now have a huge library of THE Elvis (as I heard him claim on a radio interview in 1977), with loads of demos, alternative versions and tasty goodies.

5-0 out of 5 stars His masterpiece enhanced by second disc

Gang of Four went disco, Mission of Burma went deaf--and the Clash? Well, the Clash just went, but Fugazi have managed to escape the pitfalls that befell their predecessors. In fact, the Washington D.C. band formed by Minor Threat's Ian MacKaye and Insurrection's Guy Piccotto may well have become the world's most reliable source of no-sellout noise-pop. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is incredible...
Yes, indeed these EPs are absolutely incredible.I recently purchased this cd and was floored by Fugazi. This was my first Fugazi purchase and as typical with many who purchase an artist's recordings, the first impression is often the strongest.I have since purchased their discography and have enjoyed all of them, but none as much as this one. What craftmanship especially after being a Minor Threat fan all these years...they seem to had finally pulled it all together. Please do yourself a favor and buy this cd - punk ethos defined.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Conscious Of Modern Alternative Music
If you follow alternative music, I would be surprised if you havent heard of Fugazi. They are known as the epitome of a band that will not sell out. They sell all their discs at bargain prices, and their concerts are always reasonably priced, for admission. This is their masterpiece, and "Waiting Room" is their finest hour. I would recomend all their albums, but this is their best punk album. As their later discs get out, they tend to defy description. However, I think its fair to say this is the album that made them relevant.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
This is probably one of the best(if not the best) hardcore punk albums of all time. The songs are filled with a passion andintensity that is hard to find. On top of that they are also often quite catchy("Suggestion,"Waiting Room")and it is clear that they are great songwriters. This is also historically important, as mant of the personal lyrics and comparibly complex guitar work (as to say,Black Flag)laid the groundwork for Emo.On top of that, not a single weak track.Highly reccomended ... Punk rock is meant to be played loud and snotty. Blink 182 are a San Diego punk rock threesome whose interest in arrested development has led them to a sparkling array of sex jokes that cover everything from anal sex to masturbation to... Well, you get the idea--and that's just the between-song banter. This limited-edition live collection--a holding pattern until the band's fifth studio album is released in 2001--features a slam-dunk collection of the band's hits, fan favorites from their various studio albums, and new tunes ("Blew Job" among the enlightened tracks). One additional studio track, "Man Overboard" (already a hit on a radio near you), packs a harder punch than most, thanks to the studio finesse. But mostly these are revved-up versions of songs to break a skateboard by. With the added appeal of a color booklet and about seven minutes of "stage banter" tacked on at the end, guaranteed to either leave you in stitches or have you grounded for a month. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars good
this is a good live album. i dont watch mtv and i hope no one else does but this is good live. the jokes in between songs are hilarious as long as your not uptight or disgusted by their language. the bestpart is the 20 something tracks of them just talking.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good Cd
This is a good live blink 182 cd....Almost too good.I have a couple other concerts of them and the quality of their singing and playing isn't anything compared to this one.I thing their was some kind of tampering with the vocals. On the other blink cds, you can't even understand half of the things tom says, but everything is clear and understandable on this cd. Oh-well, besides that, the cd is good because they change the voice patterns on some songs like What's my age again and Voyeur and Pathetic.Even if they did mess with the cd, i still love them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brillient
Such good fun and humour. Tom and Mark are so funny and first time listening to it really made me laugh. Also the songs on it are awesome from their best album enema of the state.

So much has been said about disco-punk's King Midas, New York musician/producer James Murphy, that it's kind of hard to believe that we've had to wait until 2005 for the debut album from his dancefloor project, LCD Soundsystem. LCD's classic triumvirate of early singles--"Losing My Edge," "Give It Up," and "Yeah"--joined the dots between punk-rock, disco, and funk in a way that hadn't been seen since the New York downtown scene of the early '80s, but these are bravely relegated to a bonus disc in favor of a suite of new material that reworks the band's influences in new, often explicit ways: take "Movement," for instance--a homage to the Fall that finds Murphy barking "It's a fat guy/ In a T-shirt/ Doing all the singing!" over punchy analog synths, or the quietly majestic "Great Release," a doff of the cap to Brian Eno circa Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Confident Debut
Though the 2000s have suffered from a lack of decent electronic/dance-style music, LCD Soundsystem has come out with a surprisingly good collection of songs of that genre. The songwriting and the music come across as incredibly confident, for this being their first album. James Murphy's vocals have a sort of coolness (and even a hint of sarcasm) that really strengthens the album. Not for one moment do they give off the impression of a mediocre, unpolished group.
4-0 out of 5 stars Brought back fun, but hazy, memories!Make it 4 1/2 stars.
I INHALED this CD.After all the hype and hyper blowin' up about this dance/punk/rock genius, I finally broke down and bought it.Not that I was old enough to get into the discos in the mid 70's-early/mid 80's(I was still in elementary school, then middle school), but I remember(and still love) the groups that influenced this disc...The Buzzcocks, Heaven 17, PiL, Blondie...hell even the Rolling Stones "Some Girls" album. And yes, I have to say(after finding "Death Disco-Songs Under the Dance Floor 1978-1984" CD and I'm ordering it)the old stuff is more fun.But for the hipsters who don't know this is not original genre,it's pretty great. No, it's very great. The first song "Daft Punk is Playing at my House" was fun, and both discs made it worth driving throughsnowy/sleety/frozen rain covered streets to work out at the gym these last couple weeks.

4-0 out of 5 stars LCD Soundsystem Is Playing In My House... My House!
This is a band that doesn't care what the "sound of the moment" is. They just make music. Period. This double CD is a treat for the senses for anyone that appreciates good music. Indie, punk, funk, disco... You name it, there's a splash of everything everywhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars There is a "I" in Fantastic tho...
In my opinion you either love TBS, or you hate them. This is quite simply TBS at their best. I don't think they can ever really surpass this album. That doesn't mean they can't make worthy follow-ups, but there just won't be another Tell All Your Friends. Even after 2 follow-ups, this album right here is clearly the best and the defining TBS album.
5-0 out of 5 stars Cute Without the E.. I think TBS isn't cut.
I have stuck by Taking Back Sunday since the release of this CD, and must I say, this is by far the best TBS cd released.
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing

Im comparing this album to social distortions self titled album so of course it is not near as good.If you are going to buy this album make sure you listen to this BEFORE you listen to social distortions self titled because if you dont your gonna hate it like i did...honestly i wouldnt even buy it.the songs are so-so but i think they could have done way better.only two stars for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Social D: Between Heaven and Hell
Mike Ness doesn't try too hard.He just plugs it in, cranks it up, plays what chords he can (all three of them) and sings about what he knows.Although none of these individual songs are quite as recognizable as "Story of My Life" or "Ball and Chain," overall this album is much better and more consistent than their self-titled."Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell" rivals Oasis' "Definitely Maybe" for the title of best true "rock" album of the 90's.A rock and roll classic. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars i really do dislike rise against
i know i havent really examined ALL of this band's material with a fine tooth comb, but i definately am quite familiar with their songs. for one, my friend recommended me to listen to this band..and two, i really can tell when this band is being played on the radio as well because of the singers voice. i must say, that voice of the singer is the only thing separating this band from being another one of those carbon copy emo-core bands...seriously, just insert some random whiny guy in his place and there you go!..and im not going to even start with how much i loathe emo-core. first, i do think their previous album is pretty alright..in an anti-flag sense and i truely did sense a little bit of bad religion dashes in that album, but it isnt enough to make me want to buy it and play it out loud...but this album represents an already decent "could have been good" band lowering themselves a few notches into mtv, pseudo punk, and warped tour carbon copy oblivion. ..and yes, its another "political idealist" band trying to make it big on mtv.
5-0 out of 5 stars My strongest endorsement!
Don't be fooled by the melodic "Swing Life Away".Rise Against rocks, and they rock hard. I picked this CD up sort of on a whim, not expecting to be that into it... instead I was blown away. Every song on the album is unique, and they're almost all fantastic. I left it in my CD player for days! I'm a little suprised to see them described as punk, because to me they just sound like a hard, straight line rock band should. Order it now, you won't be dissapointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars What Punk Should Be
This is one of the best punk albums I have heard in years.Where as so much punk rock is released, and all the vocals are weak, and all you can hear are drums, Rise Against pulls together a strong tune, cutting rhythm, and a pulsing beat that just drills into you, and never lets go. The vocals are a cutting yell, but with a melody, and the occasional harmonic duet... That's right, yelling in harmony.

Editorial Review

You can tell a lot about a band by the company it keeps. Simple Plan's close chums include Good Charlotte and Blink 182, giving one a fair hint of the sound the group's debut, though, judging by song titles like "I’m Just a Kid," "The Worst Day Ever," and "God Must Hate Me," it’s clear these Canadian pop-punkers are aiming for a younger demographic still. Ignore the bikini-clad babes that festoon the sleeve--there’s none of Blink 182’s smutty double-entendres here. Frontman Pierre Bouvier writes about skipping school, crashing dad’s car, and lusting after girls that don’t know he exists. "Every day," he sob, "is the worst day ever." The music itself is far from glum. "I’d Do Anything" is a beaming Green Day-style chugger, while "When I’m With You" is a tale of obsession and heartbreak that owes more to the Go-Go's than Rancid. Seasoned punk fans will be put off by the excessive juvenilia, but the new wave should lap this up. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars please note all the five-star reviews by kids
Remember the style of music that came out in the late 70's called Punk?
5-0 out of 5 stars An awesome CD
This is one of the best albums I have ever heard. There's no songs on here that I don't like. All of them are great. Especially I'm Just a Kid, I'd Do Anything, and Perfect. I reccomend this to anyone who likes bands such as Yellowcard, The All-American Rejects, and blink-182 or anyone who is looking for some good music to listen too.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ill be nice... this should only get 2 and a half!!!
Whoah... this is Simple Plan's first album and i got the impression that they didnt know what to sing about!!!Green Day is WAY better Perfect and I won't be there are pretty well the only good songs on this album... oh i forgot so is I'm just a kid. But really... they have a lot to complain about it seems to me... Still Not Getting any is way better... this whole CD is whining... some of it is pleasurable whining, but most of it is annoying....

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good album
I enoyed parts of this album, but still found myself skipping some songs on it.Overall it's quite good and worth the money, and I have to say that the song "Letter from Iraq" is one of the most powerful punk rock songs I've heard in recent years.Liek I said, good, but not great.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bouncing Souls Bounce High with this One
Many fans are excited that the Bouncing Souls are back with 12 new energetic songs on "The Gold Record." They have been one of the bands paving the way for puck rock for nearly the last fifteen years with their DIY rock antics. Now after three years the Bouncing Souls return to out do themselves with this more musically diverse release. The lead off track, "The Gold Song" is a traditional punk rock song, but track after track the sound changes to a more diverse sound with a trumpet solo in "The Pizza Song" and even a song that is only harmonies ("The Messenger").
2-0 out of 5 stars Where's the Energy?
This album was mediocre at best.I really liked every Bouncing Souls CD before this one, because they all have a lot of energy to them and are fun to listen to.This one has a couple of decent songs, but nothing like what I'm used to out of the souls.I guess you might like this CD if you're into EMO, but not if you're looking for something like the Souls have put out in times past. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars not what i was hoping for
i bought this album after reading the "rave" reviews on here about it...what a let down.im still giving it the benefit of the doubt with 3 stars even though i didnt think it deserved that, notice i said i, its only my opinion.the songs all sound alike.before i could leave the mall parking lot i looked down and my player said song 4.i was like what the heck?i just popped it in and i couldnt even tell when the last song had ended and the next one began.

5-0 out of 5 stars Be Prepared For The Goth ( :<
This is no doubt a great CD. It's AFI at their goth point, so be prepared for some dark music. Especially if you only have AFI's first few CD's.
5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE GREATEST ALBUMS EVER!!
Ok, so I've been an AFI fan since about 1995 when I saw them for the first time.Great show.Since I got into know AFI through "Answer that and Stay Fashionable" and "Very Proud of Ya", I was a little shocked at the new style they were transforming into."Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes" was horrible.I hated that album and I was angry with the band for changing their sound so dramatically.I even talked to them before a show and asked them why they altered their style. They acted like they had no idea what I was talking about.

3-0 out of 5 stars Green Day's An Insomniac
INSOMNIAC is part of the record product that has led Green Day to be the band that it is today. Released in 1995, this album showed that Green Day still had a lot to learn in performing to the top of their genre, but the band was good at what they already knew. With a hard grudgy punk sound, the rock band played their hardest on their guitar, bass, and drums. Joel added his own uniquality to the group with his upbeat and entertaining lyrics. His words are what made this punk band stand out from many of the others they were in competetion with. A great apsect of the group is that they are in time with each other. That in itself is an accomplishment in the style this band performs in. INSOMNIAC is a fair rocker album, and one to give some attention to.
4-0 out of 5 stars Consistent, but lacking that standout hit.
Dookie was a great album, and Green Day's fan contingent was expecting their next album to follow a similar path. However, the majority of fans were left dissapointed by Dookie's follow up, 'Insomniac'. It maintains the core of the groups sound, but adds a shade of darkness that is cast over each song.Despite the critisism this album has received, 'Insomniac' is a massively underrated album.
5-0 out of 5 stars One Of The Best
I rated this before and gave it a three star. Now I realize it is worth five stars. Well, I'm also crazed about Green Day now too. I'm ordering it today, or sometime this week, and since I rented it before, I know what to expect. Some kick-butt songs! 86 is one of the best. Brat is also pretty good. And I especially love ALL 5 hit singles. 'Stuck With Me', 'Walking Contridiction', 'Brain Stew', 'Jaded', and 'Geek Stink Breath." My suggestion is to get a new copy. I'm buying it used, but it doesn't matter. It rocks either way! ... Read more

Editorial Review

In a few short years, the Clash transformed themselves from one of English punk's hardest-edged bands to an adventurous outfit with their hands in reggae, dub, dance, and funk. Nowhere is that range more evident than this collection of singles spanning their entire career, from the three-chord fury of "White Riot" through the swooning pop of "Train in Vain" to the dance groove of "Rock the Casbah." While no substitute for the likes of the self-titled debut, Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It's The Clash... Enough Said.
The Clash are my favorite band of all time, so of course I gave this cd 5 stars. If you haven't listened to The Clash's music before, you are really missing out! This is a good collection of their singles, and is a decent beginning to any punk collection. That being said, it's only a beginning. I agree with the reviewer below me who said that there are better cds compilations of The Clash's music. I'd reccomend "The Story of The Clash," which has 28 of their songs, including one of their best singles "Career Opportunites." But, any cd of The Clash is good.

2-0 out of 5 stars Obsolete!
This used to be an OK disc...until they c
