5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best bands of all time.
I never really was into punk music too much. I thought it was too much screaming, and not enough instrumentation. THen, I discovered Flogging Molly, one of the greatest things to ever happen. I listened to Drunken Lullabies, and was immedietely hooked on this band. THis is an amazing CD that truly deserves recognition. This was the first Flogging Molly CD I listened to, and got me completely hooked on this Irish/Folksy punk band.
5-0 out of 5 stars buy it!!!
My review comes with certain disdain for punk music and in my cd collection the only "punk" I own is Dead Kennedy's. My girlfriend bought this cd one day And it ripped my skull open. My favorite type of music is folk and/or bluegrass and this cd, in my humble opinion, is a cross between them two generes mixed with a dash of tasteful punk rock fury. The lyrics are as excellent as the music so pseudo-folk fans like myself can find gold here with this cd.....its a surefire CLASSIC! I seen them live in columbus recently and they brought the city down!!

5-0 out of 5 stars "Wipe that golden tear from your mother dear...And raise what's left of the flag for me!"
My first experience with Flogging Molly was actually in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, which featured "Drunken Lullabies" on the playlist. I heard the banjo intro and actually started laughing, but by the end of the song I was shaking my fist to the chorus. That was about 2 years ago. I bought this CD finally on St. Patrick's Day this year, and I was singing the songs with friends while consuming copious amounts of Killian's Irish Red. I absolutely love this album. So full of emotion and balls at the same time, this album is truly a masterpiece. The songs that I particularly loved are Drunken Lullabies, What's Left Of The Flag, If I Ever Leave This World Alive, Rebels Of the Sacred Heart, Death Valley Queen, The Rare Ould Times, and The Son Never Shines(On Closed Doors). This was my first adventure into Flogging Molly, so when I buy "Within A Mile Of Home" and "Swagger", they may not hold that special place in my green, white, and orange heart that "Drunken Lullabies" did. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars All Their Hits!
It's what I expected. All their hits, plus a couple more. The additions were a little off the wall of my normal Green Day likes, but all-in-all it's a good CD!

4-0 out of 5 stars A good album...and stop whining for the love of god!!!
okay, for one, enough with you greenday haters. I really like greenday, their my favorite band, but please,if you hate their guts, stop posting.people are on here to read reveiws from people who actaully have listened to the Cd's,not to listen to you whine and tattle about how metallica is way better.that's you opinion, and here's mine.

This album is a must have. It's all of green Day's all time hits, 20 of them.I bought this album and put like 12 of the songs onto my mp3 player. It's awesome. They got some good ones like Hitchin' a Ride, Waiting, Good Riddance, etc.Aww, it's great.Another must have by Green Day ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars The formula has gone sour
I love hatebreed, but it's now time to progress the style. This would've been a great cd if they had not already done the style 3 times in a row. The music sounds forced and generic. If this is the first hatebreed record you plan on buying, don't buy it. Anyone of the hatebreed records listed below will leave you more than happy, and will definitely be your moneys worth. As terrible as this album is, it's still worth seeing them live.
4-0 out of 5 stars Metallic Hardcore How It's Supposed To Be
If there is a hardcore band that I can appreciate these days for their musicmanship and originality, Hatebreed has my vote. This is REAL hardcore, no fashion involved here. The drumming is excellent, and Jamey Jasta sends actual messages with his lyrics. And I say "metallic", because Hatebreed may not exactly be considered a metal band, but they have the definite influence. This is a great record full of pure aggression. Recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Supreme Effort
Cant beleive this is only getting some average reviews.I think this could be one of the best hatebreed and hardcore albums i've heard.Defeatist is one of the most brutal they've put out.Other great songs include destroy everything, which will be a mosh pit classic.give wings to my triumph, divine judgement, immortal enemies, and my personal favorite spitting venom.

5-0 out of 5 stars This CD is AWESOME
This is a great cd to buy if you never listened to AFi. it will make you buy the other ones. if you have listened to AFI before, you definatly buy this. it is one of those CDS that you could listen to over and over agian and never get tired of it

5-0 out of 5 stars This is amazing, but don't try to categorize it
Is it punk? Is it goth? Alternative? Metal? Play this CD for 10 different people and I bet few of them will agree on how to categorize it. And that's one of the things that makes it great. If you were an AFI fan from their early days of three-chord songs on Answer That and Stay Fashionable, then this likely wouldn't appeal to you. This is not punk in the sense that their earlier CDs were (and yes, I have heard them). But the punk influence is still there, particularly in the vocals on "but home is nowhere" and "Bleed Black." To someone who only listens to pop on the radio, they would think this is punk. To someone who thinks Crass is real punk, they obviously wouldn't. If you look through the one-star reviews, a lot of them are from people who are mad that AFI "sold out" to sign to a major label and no longer sounds like they did when they were writing about breakfast cereal. Nor is this goth, per se, but if you only read the lyric sheet and looked at a photo of the band in this era, you might assume they are goth.
5-0 out of 5 stars AFI boldly goes in new directions...
Sing the Sorrow was my first introduction to AFI. Which is probably why I like it so much. I honestly find this album to be breathtaking. Its a true work of art, and a great sign of maturity from the band. The Art of Drowning is a great record, but this is really a step in a new direction for AFI. Have the sold out? Not at all. They just refined and have built off their old sound. While not abandoning the old sound completly, you can still tell that this is AFI, and there a few songs on this record that should please old AFI fans. But most the album is a step in a new direction, and I personally welcome that direction. A band can't keep creating the same album, it will get old. So no, this is not Black Sails, or Art of Drowning. But its a dang good record, and based off the number of copies it sold, alot of people think its dang good as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars very impressed..
i waited for this. downloaded it when it got leaked and ill buy it also. im really happy with the direction their going. it blends some of the old thrashy bb, with the off key, weird tempo, poppy sound of crimes..

5-0 out of 5 stars Dance party in my ears!
I have been waiting for this cd for a while now and i must say it definitley does not dissapoint. If your a fan of the BB you should like this one. Personally, I didn't like crimes all that much and liked their earlier material better. This cd find the area in between burn piano island, burn and crime. They have the creative BB sound with high pitched singing parodoxing with the lower vocal guy, crazy outbursts of screaming, catchy keyboards, and frantic guitar and drums. If your a fan of BB get this album.

5-0 out of 5 stars Believe it or not, a subtle masterpiece...
I'm not sure why some of the reviews are calling this the Blood Brothers' most 'accessible' album, as it is in fact more difficult at first listen than either "Crimes" or "Burn Piano Island, Burn."Some of the melodies are buried more deeply than before, and on hardcore freakouts "Nausea Shreds Yr Head," "Rat Rider," "Johnny Ripper," and "Huge God AK-47" (also songs 10-13) it might take three or four listens to be able to tell the songs apart. But the album picks up steam and power with each successive listen.Reading the lyrics is a big part of the enjoyment of "Young Machetes," as with all of the Blood Brothers' work.Much like The Mars Volta's last album, "Amputechture," this CD demands patience and time, but proves to be the band's most rewarding artistic statement yet. ... Recognizing that there's no such thing as bad publicity, manager-Svengali Malcolm McLaren molded the Pistols into the most confrontational, nihilistic band rock & roll had ever seen. Propelled by Johnny Rotten's maniacal vocals, Steve Jones's buzz-saw guitar, and (most importantly) bass player Glen Matlock's hook-filled compositional skills, the Pistols' early singles "Anarchy in the U.K." and "God Save the Queen" defined the raging style of British punk. By the time they recorded their lone 1977 album, Matlock had been bounced, replaced by the image-correct but utterly untalented (and ultimately group-dooming) Sid Vicious. Not a 10th as good as the singles, the album nontheless remains a bile-filled emblem of the times. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the sex pistols is punk rock the way it was meant to be
I agree, if you want to listin to emo and pop go ahead (You cant help it if your not grown up yet). But dont come in here and trash the best punk rock group ever because of it.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best album ever and you know it
i wish these kids that cant takereal punk rock would just admit it already emo is for kids!

1-0 out of 5 stars the most overrated album I know of
I can't get over the shock that people would actually like this album. Punk rock didn't really get good until bands like Pennywise, Descendents, and Green Day (their early stuff) came around. The only real good punk rock album in the style of the Sex Pistols is Wire's Pink Flag, which I'm pretty sure came first even but don't take my word for it. Anyway, it's an understatement to say I hate this album. I loathe it! I can't believe it, I just can-t.. URGH! How can this band have fans? They're like the Hawthorne Heights of the late 70's! The singer has no talent, the melodies just have no good chord progressions to offer (Anarchy In The U.K> is sort of good I guess, but other than that every track is just lame-o), and the lyrics are blah! If the Sex Pistols were trying to get a record deal in this day and age, they'd get laughed at because THEY SUCK! I'm seriously thinkin' that the 2000s is the best age of music yet in history. Classic rock is too inconsistent, only Van Halen, Quiet Riot, and Guns'N'Roses have come through for me there. Synth-pop was the worst era of music easily, and only starting in '89 with Nine Inch Nails' "Pretty Hate Machine" did good music start up again. Sorry, got off track there. I HATE THE SEX PISTOLS! For goodness sake, their name even is stupid.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
I bought this cd during the summer and haven't stopped listening to it since. Before this band i was stuck in this rut of mainstream pop, rap, and hip hop that i really couldnt get into. But this album made me look at music through a new perspective. (yah i know thats cheesy but thats the way it is...) The lyrics are so relatable and melodies catchy. William Beckett's voice is absolutly amazing thats one of the reasons this album is so great. It just grabs you emotionally and you need to hear more. When i play this cd i play the ENTIRE thing all the way through which is crazy for me cuz i haven't been able to do that with any cd for many years. There is a negative to this album and that is that its too short. Seriously.
5-0 out of 5 stars Overall amazing
I picked up this album at my local library after listening to 'Checkmarks' on my friend's ipod. I liked the song, but I wasn't sure how good the rest of it would be so I didn't want to spend money on something that might turn out to be bad. But as soon as I listened to it, I rushed out to Best Buy to get a copy. Believe me it was that good.

Green Day managed to produce another great heart pounding punk-rock gem. You get:
5-0 out of 5 stars Green Day Rocks in Concert!
After seeing Bullet in a Bible on FUSE, I knew that I needed to get this CD/DVD. Some may disagree with Samuel Bayer's choice in camera changes during the movie but I personally didn't find any problem with it. It sort of captures the spirit of the band itself, coming at you from many directions and you never know what's going to happen next. Green Day is AWESOME in concert and this DVD is evidence of it. From Billie Joe's crazy antics in St. Jimmy to his heroic and heartfelt performance of Wake Me Up When September Ends, Green Day shows it's versatility as a band and their highly polished skills as musicians/entertainers.
4-0 out of 5 stars Green DayBullet In A Bible(Live Album)
This is a great album 14 songs 65:36. All of the songs are live for one thing. Green Day makes realy good LIVE albums. I realy like the part where they introduces a band named Green Day at the end of Brain Stew or Basket Case. But otherwise it is realy great, especilly if you are a true Green Day fan. Whats great about it is you get alot of the new songs but you also get some of the songs from older albums like Nimrod, Warning, Shanegins, and Isonomic.

1-0 out of 5 stars COME ON NOW
Honestly who in their right mind gives these guys a record deal. They are a true example of the MTV music video money gubbin record producers world of music. I mean these kinds of bands are destroying the music world. I can prove it first of all these guys songs are not meant to appeal to the music fan they are to appeal to girls so that they all will come to their concert and become groupees so they can have sex. They don't feature any instrument whatsoever. There is no such thing as an instrument solo and if there is it's just a rif. And third of all the lead singer for Fall Out Boy sounds excactly like that of Panic! At The Disco. That just goes to show you how copycat the music industry is. In the world of music every great band has a sound that makes them unique from everyone else. They also show off their musical talent alot. Fall Out Boy does not do that which is why I am givnig this 1 star.

5-0 out of 5 stars Too great for words...
Tell me how in the hell a band like Green Day with their simple guitar and drum rythyms get to be so big and an alternative meets punk band like SD doesnt get near the props they should? Its all marketing strategy in my opinion.SD blows the lid off with this album.Johnny Cash's remake, Ring of Fire totally rocks along with the jazzy lyrics of story of my life and sick boy make you think about the "good times" that everyday people can relate to...a perfect five stars for me.This is easy listening that anyone can enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Favorite "New" Band since College
Every song is superb.Driving, running, daydreaming, this Social D classic makes me feel young and glad my hearing is still good."She's a Knockout" is as good as any song I've heard since college."Ring of Fire" is the only cover and it's worthy of the original."Story of My Life" is the best song and its lyrics are as good as the incredible music.Buy this CD and then "Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell" and you won't regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars SD rocks 15+ years later
Wow, this is such a great album throughout. One bonus is that it's relatively short and there are no wasted, throwaway tracks.

2-0 out of 5 stars Average at best
I never liked Cursive, until I heard "The Ugly Organ," which blew me away. Which is the real band?, I wondered.
4-0 out of 5 stars An evolution?
Cursive does it again, this album is another masterpiece. But it is not without its flaws. It would be a 5 out of 5 if compared to most other bands and their records, but when compared to Cursive's other work it doesn't do as well. Some "die-hard" Cursive fans (which I consider myself) find the album to be a dissapointing break from the older, shall we say, harshness that the previous releases have.Cursive's previous albums where the songs-about-relationships-love-and-lose-self-pity albums. The reason most of these stood out to me was Kasher's witty lyrics, his sarcasim was so well placed. On Happy Hollow he has moved from the love and lose standpoint to the criticism of Religion and the society around us.Now Kasher does these topics justice with his lyrics, much more than most any other band, but the subject has gotten trite.I know you are probably thinking "but singing about girls and ect.ect. is just as cliche...." but I really enjoyed Tim's perspective. This new album is just a witty renovation of the age-old "Church is corrupt, religion is bad, what have you.." argument. Some have said if you don't like the lyrics then you must be some brainwashed religious person (Oh no!) but this statement is totally ridiculous and hypocritical. To me the subject has gotten boring and I would have rather heard more of Tim's usual writing.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wow, I love this CD
Had to buy a copy when I heard 'Dorthy at Forty' on a radio station and was hungry for more. Boy, the full cd delivered way more than I expected. Awesome, very interesting lyrics, great tunes, and just really well put together. I'm no good at music review writing. 5-0 out of 5 stars The Offsprings' Best Release To Date
The Offspring has always been a fairly unique band. Even today they still are able to produce good sounding punk style music even with all of the mainstream radio and emo punk taking over the airwaves. Back then, in 1994, Instead of going up against bands like Nickelback or Fall Out Boy they were up against Alice n' Chains and Nirvana and still managed to sell a great deal of albums. Smash is probably the best album they have ever put out. The overall sound of everything on the album is just great. It's its own masterpiece. Just one big energetic, angsty, skate punk attitude album. I love the whole thing. Although, my favorite tracks would have to be "Gotta Get Away", "Come Out and Play", "Self Esteem", and "Smash". Pretty much everythings amazing though. Here's what I think of each track...
5-0 out of 5 stars Will always be a smash!
Ive been listening to this album for what feels like forever. and i still analyse the songs and relate. For those who know the offspring and what there newer albums have to offer please for the love of god check this out and it will be a life changing experience.. then thank me! After all who else writes legendary lines like "if you look away, you'll be doing what they say, and if you look alive you will be singled out and tried" i mean who? Also(going off the album) you get a cance to see them live, the atmosphere created is one of a kind.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE OFFSPRING'S BEST!
this has got to be the offspring's best album ever! with the classics "come out and play", and "self esteem" this IS a classic! "gotta get away", "bad habit", and "nitro (youth energy)" are a couple more of the great songs on this CD. so if you're thinking about listening to any of the offspring's albums - this should definetly be your first choice! the songs in the beginning are better than the ways later on the album.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nimrod- Possibly a classic with more editing
It's amazing how Green Day never release a dud album. Sure, everything between Dookie and American Idiot was largely unpopular. But if you ignore the critisism and actually listen to some of these albums, you may well be suprised if you have your doubts.
4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
Nimrod is a very good album by Green day. It has alot of good songs. My favorite and what i think is one of their greatest songs "time of your life" and it is the best one on the cd. It is overall a decent Green day album.

3-0 out of 5 stars NIMROD

5-0 out of 5 stars The only CD set you'll ever need
I didn't know I was a Clash fan until I bought this CD set. I went to the store and saw it on the rack. There were four songs that I already knew and figured there'd be at least a few more I would like so I bought it. Out of the 40 songs, I can listen to atleast 22 over and over and over again and never get sick of them! I copied the my favorite songs onto another disk and put it in my car's CD player... I haven't put another disk in in over six months. For the amount of great music you'll get, there isn't a better value out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Beatles of Punk
Out of all the classic punk-rock groups, the Clash were the most skilled, most important, and best. From their days of loud, intense screaming which you can barely understand (White Riot, London's Burning, Complete Control) to the London Calling/Sandinista! (not sure if I spelt that right) era, when they were experimenting with everything, to their last days, the Essential Clash covers the Clash perfectly, with very few fillers.
5-0 out of 5 stars This Is Real Punk!
Forget bands like Green Day and Good Charlotte. For real punk rock, I suggest going back to the core, to the originators, such as The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, and my personal favorite, The Clash. The Clash define punk rock for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars No Falling From Grace, Here
I love this album! A former co-worker of mine turned me onto it in the early 90's and I will be forever grateful to him for it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Adam and Eve
I was first introduced to the Pogues by an alternative radio station, reporting on Margaret Thatcher's censorship of the Pogues--presumably because the band was supporting the Irish who were allegedly (wrongly) accused of terrorist acts against England. The song of the Birmingham 6 is really beautiful. It really stands alone. And it's so different from the rest of the album which is so upbeat, wash-buckle rock! The lyrics are all nonetheless thoughtful and socially reflective.
5-0 out of 5 stars If I Should Fall from Grace With God~ The Pogues
If I Should Fall from Grace With God~ The Pogues is a very nice "folk-rock" album with nicely written lyrics, and vocals that sound rough and a bit uncouth but it just for the this kind of music. One can imagine seeing the singer in an Irish Bar with his mates drinking, playing music, and having a grand time. I love the book-let and the photos, font and the lay-out for it is simply put it grand. I love the clarity of the cover photo and the rest of the photos are also well done. Highly recommended indeed. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars The Unsolved Mystery
There are certain unsolved mysteries in life. The existence of the Loch Ness Monster.Jimmy Hoffa's whereabouts. The popularity of the Hold Steady.I bought this album after various media outlets from NPR to the New York Times fell all over themselves to proclaim these guys the New Saviours of Rock.I don't get it.If these guys are the Next Big Thing, then maybe rock and roll really is dead.
5-0 out of 5 stars "The Perfect Debut"

5-0 out of 5 stars Discovering Flogging Molly is better than falling in love.
I have long been a big fan of traditional Celtic music and never thought I would find myself liking music that is often classified as Punk.I got turned onto Flogging Molly accidentally on the internet and was instantly addicted to the driving beat mixed with awsome lyrics and more than one surprise per song.I immediatly bought this album and have never regreted it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Flogging Molly a great live band? Indeed, However I liked it better when it was called The Pogues.
Ahh!!, the genre of Celtic punk has really now just become a real cash cow comodity, thanks to bands like Flogging Molly, The Tossers, and to a lesser extent Dropkick Murphy's.First off Irish music is something that I hold sacred to my heart, I'm third-generation Irish-American, so bands like The Dubliners, The Chieftains, and the Clancy Brothers, are the godfathers of the genre.
