5-0 out of 5 stars One Of The Greatest Cd's Of Our Time
Epic and anthemic, and yet every track can be listened to without the others. It tells a great story and has a great set of characters.Jesus of Suburbia and Homecoming particularly stick out in my mind.If you don't have it already, get it.

4-0 out of 5 stars You tell 'em
OK, fair enough, Green Day were the first band with the guts to actually call the Bush administration out for what it is (or what they think it is, anyways).I'm puzzled how people can say the lyrics don't even make sense - I have no problem figuring out what the songs are about! That's the lyrical review - 5 stars.I'm not a fan of punk rock so I can't fairly review this CD in musical terms, so I gave it the 3 stars of middle ground. The average # stars is therefore 4 stars.(I wonder if the people who can't figure out the meaning of the lyrics, will be able to follow that.)
1-0 out of 5 stars Brainless, mindless trash...if you like Greenday...you must be a retard.
Green Day is a completely talentless pop rock band.Ths type of music takes no talent what so ever. Its three chords played on a guitar...and nothing more. Then they put those three chords through a bunch of distortion and fuzz boxes to mask the lack of talent.Well Greenday, you little bas.ards didn't fool me with your noisy guitar pop.I know a lack of talent when I hear it, and Green Day are absolutely talentless at playing their instruments. And what are these lyrics anyway?Half the time you can't even understand what these punks are saying because the music is such a noisy guitar pop racket. And whenever the lyrics are audible, they sound stu.pid and don't make any sense."The New Media"?"The Redneck Agenda"?Lyrics like that are such a bunch of pseudo intellectual nonsense that its almost laughable.Green Day are a bunch of juvenile delinquents who probably aren't even old enough to vote, let alone know anything about politics. And the harder they try to be intelligent, the more idiotic they sound.SO Green Day, please stop writing those pseudo intellectual "social commentary" tunes that take no talent. You don't sound smart. You don't sound intelligent.Every word you sing on your pseudo intellectual "rock operas" just shows your ignorance abou t the topic you're writing about.ANd Green Day fans...how can you actually enjoy this noisy, three chord, guitar pop racket? How can you like listening to a bunch of bratty juveniledelinquents from the suburbs shooting their mouths off about politics when their knowledge is limited to riding skateboards, smoking joints, and playing 3 chords on a guitar?I'm begining to think that in order to be a Greenday fan, one must not have a brain cell. After all, that's the only way one could listen to this brainless, mindless cr.ap.Come on Green Day fans, this CD isn't a five star unless you're reta.rded. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Loyal AFI Fan!!!
Decemberunderground is one of the greatest cd's ever!!! I love all of AFI's music and bands do change there style to keep up to date.Davey's style keeps the band going and his voice is great!!!Jade's style with his guitar is his own!! Every song on this CD is excellent and you will never tire of it. Even if you have never heard of AFI, you will love this CD, give it a try!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not a shabby followup

3-0 out of 5 stars A bold new direction.....in cruise control.
AFI is one of the more exciting acts in the quasi-rock mainstream. While they aren't risk takers in the Tim Buckley sense, they certainly aren't scared of adding fresh interesting levels to their maturing foundation. This of course accumliated in their best release to date,"Sing the Sorrow."This isn't the case with "December Underground" as they appear to have cut themselves down to the old punk quick so that they may construct an entirely different sound from the rubble.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest albums of all time
This is one of the best ever, of any genre. If you like punk rock, you have to have this.I'm really at a loss when trying to explain the album - there simply are no words.Even the picture on the cover is perfect.Even the colors are perfect. There may be other albums that I like as much, but none that I like better.
3-0 out of 5 stars .....I Don't Get It
Actually 3 1/2 stars .The Clash' third album London Calling is possibly the most overated album of all time . I understand if you're into punk you want a claim in rock and roll history , but most of the songs on this album are hardly punk . The bulk of the album is reggae or reggae influenced . The title song is great , Brand New Cadillac ( a cover of a Vince Taylor song ) is great too . Ditto for Lost In A Supermarket , a song that sounds like something from Genesis' Duke period . Spanish Bombs , Hateful and Clampdown are good too . There are 18 tracks on this album .What are the other standout songs ? I don't hear 'em . I would think that " one of the great albums of all time "would be solid from top to bottom . The bulk of this album is mediocre pop/ reggae songs . Where's the edge ? I don't hear it . This is one of those albums like Exile On Main Street that's cool too like ... possibly because the criticssay so ?

5-0 out of 5 stars Completely Deserves To Be As Popular As It Is
What a revolutionary album this was, released in 1979. I just love listening to the Clash's "London Calling" Album. It is a fun and entertaining, yet thoughtful masterpiece of 20th-century rock music. The lyrics are often very political. It gets a lot of hype, and I think it deserves all that attention. It truly is a great album! "London Calling" (album) contains a diverse range of musical influences, so it will fit in in almost any music collection. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars the white stripes?...or nirvana?
I like this album, and there's not really much I can say that other reviewers haven't already said, but I give it only three stars because of something a quite disgruntled reviewer said that I took to heart...
5-0 out of 5 stars Stripe me, baby!
I love this duo! Though this is the only White Stripes CD I own so far, I am a confirmed fan of Jack and Meg White. I am in my forties and have eclectic taste in music but tend to love rock best. I own and enjoy Audioslave, Alice in Chains, the Beatles, the Police, the Foo Fighters, Bonnie Raitt, No Doubt and even some French music among many other artists and genres. The White Stripes give me everything that I love about all of my favorite music: great lyrics, a compelling beat, hypnotic guitar and a truly unique voice. One of my favorite aspects of the music on the Elephant CD is the bluesy undertone to the music, expecially on Ball And Biscuit, which may be my favorite cut. Jack's voice is a physical, seductive sensation on this one. He seems to really unleash that voice and it is powerful! Black Math is another of my favorites because of the tempo changes. I have to stop whatever I'm doing during this song and let it carry me along. Jack's voice changes with the tempo also. Brilliant! Seven Nation Army is probably the most commercially successful song on the CD and it is still as fabulous as ever but there is so much more to love. All of the songs are very good. I highly recommend Elephant.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't belive the hype - belive the record
In all my days of album picking, I've never approached an album with more caution than this one. Before I picked it up, I read; read everything from the praise that "Seven Nation Army" has gotten from critics across the music spectrum, to the wonderfully glorious acceptance speeches fans of the garage rock genre gave to the fourteen track monster. You can see how poised I was to listen to the blasted thing.

3-0 out of 5 stars POWER POP ROCK
Firstly the new generation have a different understanding on the 'punk' vibe. Punk was more hard and aggressive than what is being pumped out today, take a listen to The Sex Pistols and Black Flag and this should give you a flavour of what punk is/was....
5-0 out of 5 stars Just funning...
Fall Out Boy "From Under the Cork Tree" is pure fun for me. I'm in my early 20's, probably over the intended demographic, but I love this band and their music. It's just fun stuff to dance around to or sing along in the car. I think the band had a lot of fun making the album, and I have fun listening to it. Okay, occasionally, some of their stuff is heavy-handed (to say the least), but I believe they meant it ironically, and even if they don't, I sing it that way.
1-0 out of 5 stars Poor
Ok, first things first, FALL OUT BOY IS NOT PUNK! Fall out boy is emo. Not punk. Punk Is black flag, agent orange...but NOT fall out boy! Their songs are bad, mostly about how their girlfriends wont sleep with them and they can not play their instroments at all. Listen to the bassist!

Emotionally over-the-top pop extravaganzas like the string-swelling "Tonight Tonight," the Metallica-influenced alternative rock of "Zero," the techno via new wave of "1979"--the 28 songs on this swell two-disc album are as eclectic as their themes are epic and ambitious. Billy Corgan's thin whine isn't much of an instrument, but he makes the most of it by writing smart songs that take emotional chances that more-typical alt rockers would deem uncool. Pessimistic and feeling trapped but still wanting to believe in love, in a future, in something--this is the sound of Gen X at the millennium, with all the self-indulgence and power that would suggest. I at first didn't care for the album that much and only listened to the songs which had videos playing on MTV. Later I decided to put the album on and just let it play through while I cleaned my room...it was then that I saw this album for what it is...a complete masterpiece!

I don't know, why it has taken me this long to write a review for this album.I purschased this album in 1995 when it first came out. After my first listen, I was impressed, but I did not truly apriciate this album, until I listented to it several times all the way through. This is truly a masterpeice of an album. It has every emotion on this album.Yes I love Siamese Dream and Gish, but this album is the best and I understand why Billy went a differnt direction after this album, because how do you top a masterpiece.

5-0 out of 5 stars one of the best albums I own
I love this album.I love the fusion of Irish/scottish music with punk rock.its amazing that you can listen to the entire album and not get board. These guys don't take themselves to seriously, which is one of the reasons why it is so great.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE DROPKICK MURPHYS AT THEIR BEST!!!!!
This cd got me hooked on the band. Their heavy sounding punk found in almost all of the tracks on this cd is stunning. I've listened to this countless times, and since I have I've collected every one of these guy's cds. Below is a run down of all the songs:
5-0 out of 5 stars Their Best to date
It is always amazing to me how this band keeps maturing. This album is just a way-station toward even better, more elaborate, meaningful work. When last seen and heard, this bunch of brash and brawny souls were not only playing and singing their hearts out, but were playing guitars, drums, accordion, bouzouki, mandolin, banjo, piano, not to mention the pipes. All of it fitting. All of it on the money. And, listen to some of the lyrics; "Take it and Run" "Last Letter Home," "Green Fields of France." I mean, some of the best, most relevant stuff out there today. Goes far beyond the self-pitying emo, the trash of rap, the crap of hip-hop, not to mention the Pablum of most of the other "Top 40" stuff. No wonder the record industry is struggling to stay alive - pushing that kind of junk... ... Read more

Take one part Ramones, one part Buzzcocks, and one part Husker Du, and you've got the basic foundation of Green Day, a punky, witty, melodic San Francisco Bay area trio who became overnight stars in 1994 when this album, their third overall release and major label debut, catapulted them to the top of the pop charts. Led by guitarist/vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong and their secret weapon, powerhouse drummer Tre Cool, Green Day put '70s and '80s punk in a compact '90s package with songs like "Longview," "Basket Case," "Pulling Teeth," and the hit semi-ballad, "When I Come Around." One the few modern alternative rock bands with a bona fide sense of humor. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!
Green Day rocks! I love the old Green Day. My opinion is you aren't a true Green Day fan unless you've at least heard their old stuff. It's so true. THIS IS A VERY GOOD CD. GET IT.

4-0 out of 5 stars Biased by Influence
Let's get some things straight before we start, yes?First off, I was in high school when the record released.I bought it, ostensibly to give as a birthday present to somebody else I knew, but for complicated reasons ended up keeping it.Over the course of the next few years, it was one of the few records I actually owned (hard to get those buggers when you don't have, you know, an income), so it got played a lot.Quite a lot.
1-0 out of 5 stars "Dookie..." an apt title
Let me put it like this: there is not ONE good song on this album. Not only that, but it's a collection of fifteen crappy songs, especially Longview, Welcome to Paradise, Basket Case and When I Come Around, all of which I have heard a million too many times on the radio. This isn't a punk album, the Clash and the Sex Pistols are punk. It sucks. That's the short and long of it. Get the Velvet Underground's third, self-titled album if you want an example of an amazing album. Get something by the Stooges if you want good punk. Or the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Cream, Who, AC/DC, Crosby Stills & Nash, Neil Young, Bob Dylan... all are much better. But if you MUST have some alternative rock, either the Chili Peppers, R.E.M., U2 or Nirvana will do. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Mix of Songs
I really liked this as a full album. The songs all fit really well together, but they all had very different musical influences to them from old timey to funky.I love a good beat and all the songs had that. The lyrics were also inventive and fun.It is really the type of record that you can get into and listen to over and over again.I highly recommend it for rock lovers and people who like to listen to music that makes them bop around in the house, car, or on the street with their ipod.Give it a try and have a little fun!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Instrumentals, but too Simple Songwriting
"The White Stripes" is a band that has some perfected examples of instrumental composition. Yet, the band's minimalist lyrics make them a little too basic when they begin to concentrate on them; and through that they then begin to loosen their sly, diverse, and devilish charm that they have propelled exceptionally onto the listener, otherwise.
5-0 out of 5 stars If you think the songs, Jack wrote em all wrong, well ya just don't belong man.If you like it but try to resist, do the twist!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad.
Bullet for my Valentine basically take emo/hardcore elements, and serve them up with a healthy dose of thrash and melodic death metal, to create a sound that is definitely a cut above the rest.Sure, frontman Matt Tuck can get a little emo-ish at times, but he's also a good screamer, and the band is always quick with a blazing riff, a scorching solo, an Iron Maiden-ish melody, or a blistering double bass attack.I'd say this album is really more metal than anything, so if you've always wanted a bit more metal in this type of music, then you're likely to find plenty of enjoyment here. These guys are great musicians, who really know how to rock hard.Best song is "The End", a 7-minute epic that alternates between dark, haunting melodies, and powerful climactic riffs. The rest are in the 3-4 minute range, and a bit more straight-forward, but still full of interesting dynamics. It never gets boring for a second.
5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, a band that does new metal the right way.
First off, I'm an 80's metal guy. I love bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Dio, Megadeth. And for years, it's been difficult for me to get into any new metal bands...until now! What an amazing band. Finally, you have a band that has the makings of a great modern day metal band, yet their music still firmly reflects their 80's roots. I love this album. If you love your metal with pounding riffs, killer solos, and a whole lot of attitude, buy this cd. This is the best British rock band to come onto the scene in years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stop listening to other people

1-0 out of 5 stars Make Damn Sure
If you happen upon the video for MakeDamnSure and the sound on your television is off, then you would think that the band Taking Back Sunday is ripping one hell of a energetic and explosive tune. They look like the MC5 in the video, jumping off amps, winging guitars around there head, looking serious as all hell. But if your like me and you turn the sound back on, your going to hear that it's another whiny and droning effort from the emo machine designed to make kids in high school feel self important.
3-0 out of 5 stars ugh
TBS is my favorite band, no matter what. Tell all your friends and where you want to be were amazing cds with amazing songs. Everything about TBS was perfect. I was really pumped for Louder Now and when I finally got it I was really dissapointed, yes their sound is different but thats not really the problem. The songs just didn't have that special something that the other two albums had. I do however very much enjoy "ill let you live", "error operator", "whats it feel like to be a ghost", and "make damn sure"
4-0 out of 5 stars Slightly Dissapointed...
Yes, I have to be honest, I'm slightly dissapointed with this album, yet I'm giving it 4 stars. My reason for being "slightly "dissapointed, is that the album really starts off with a bang, but then drops of a little. The first 3 songs are so strong and sound so amazing that the rest of the album really just can't keep up. What It Feels Like To Be A Ghost, Liar, and MakeDamnSure, are just fantastic songs, some of the best work that TBS has done. For those three alone, Louder Now is worth buying.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow, withstood time so far
For me a classic is an album you can listen to 10 years later and still be interested and challenged by it.Siamese Dream passes that test for me.It's a rollicking rock album with such a distinctive Pumpkins sound.I appreciate Billy Corgan's artistic integrity and demand to change and grow their sound, but, IMHO, it never got better than this album.Mellon Collie was excellent as well, but this is the epitome of the pumpkins' sound.
5-0 out of 5 stars PERFECT FROM START TO FINISH
I don't think this album could have been any better. Heavy distortion, crazy high-pitched solos, and loud pounding drums all come together perfectly for 13 amazing songs. There is not one song on this cd that I can skip over, it's just incredible.

Rock & roll is constantly splintering into multiple personalities. Big radioplayers layer thick slabs of studio shine on their albums, while back-to-the-basicsrockers keep the sound so raw it rubs calluses on your ears. The White Stripes fallin the latter category. The duo strips down to the fundamentals of Meg White's simpledrumbeat and Jack White's garagy guitar and pleading vocals. While the elements aresparse, the Detroit act create a noisy, hip-grinding batch of punk R&B, displayed againon Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars try redd blood cells
this is cool, i like most of their stuff usually, i dug that they played with jeff beck--takes guts!, tho meg seemed to be having a wee bit o trouble but who wouldn't with that guy!
5-0 out of 5 stars White Hot . . .
. . . enough to inspire insane amounts of jealously, that's fer sure. So this little review is a big middle finger to all the jealous music snobs that feel the need to spit venom at the Stripes. Hello? Anybody home? Open your ears! The White Stripes rock!!! WHITE BLOOD CELLS is loaded with first-rate blues-metal stompers. There's also some sweet and tuneful mellow stuff here too as well as other surprises. This is probably their best album, a deserving breakthrough for the band. Certainly stronger overall than the subsequent ELEPHANT and GET BEHIND ME SATAN albums in my view.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best White Stripes Album
This is the best album of theirs. Its full of lessons and tales of life and experience.

Editorial Review

Forever the buzz on Flogging Molly: the records are terrific, but wait until you see them live. And you can do both with the Los Angeles band's fifth record, a dual-disc CD (10 songs) and DVD (106 minutes) that pulsate with a remarkable mix of Irish pub traditional and enthusiastic punk rock. The audio CD is crammed with fan favorites--"Drunken Lullabies," "Black Friday Rules," "What's Left of the Flag"--that have been recreated either live on stage or acoustically in studio. The latter treatment strips down the wall-of-sound live band until the mandolin, accordion, and tin whistle echo like a Saturday night in Kilkenny, turning rampant rocker "Wanderlust" into a gentle waltz and "Another Bag of Bricks" into a pub-rock sing-a-long. The album's lone newcomer is a full-band studio take of "Laura," a farewell-thee love song featured on the DVD, which includes Bridge Regan's frenzied fiddle playing and vocalist Dave King's croaky Irish twang. Recorded in seven different countries, the DVD nails the genuine spirit of Flogging Molly's live performances and tracks the stories of each band member, especially King, who recalls bolting hometown Dublin for America. Wow, just when I thought Flogging Molly couldn't get any better, they topped themselves again! This is a fantastic set with one of the best music documentaries I have ever seen! The acoustic and live versions of all the classics are incredible! My entire family loves "The Molly" as we call them, and this CD and DVD does not disappoint! We all enjoyed it together!Dave King is a musical genius, and he managed to bring some of the best musicians in the world together.Their fun and haunting melodies will be around a long time!Keep rockin' Flogging Molly!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth it
I had looked forward to this and counted down the days to release. Much old material rehashed, inferior to the original recordings.
5-0 out of 5 stars It's nothing new but still very worth it
In "Whiskey On A Sunday," you get what the product description above so helpfully states. As far as what I think of the contents, I'll let those five stars above speak for me, although I'd make it 10 if I could. Flogging Molly is the best live band I know of and it seems that they're too talented to make anything not worth listening to over and over again, or, in the case of what the CD here has, acoustic or live when you already have the album version. The only reason not to get this is if you don't care about the musicians who make what you listen to. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Music for your mind, or at least your hips.
Gogol Bordello's latest album has two layers. The first layer is aparent after a fitst listening, the second takes a while. One of the first things that drew me to this band, and probably what gets most people hooked on them, was the fusion of sounds they produce.I'm a big fan of bands like Flogging Molly, bands who manage to fuse their ethnic heritage along with good ole' punk rock. The eastern gypsy music (as well as reggae, flamenco, and whatever else they decide to throw in) adds a fun twist on what would normally be considered simple, three-chord-or-less rock. The music is just so fun that everytime I hear it, I want to jump around the room like I'm at some crazy wedding (note: "Dogs Were Barking" is exactly this)! However, after I calmed down, I started listening to what Eugene Hütz was singing (some call it screaming, but screw them). What wasn't in Hungarian (or Ukranian, I'm not very good with Eastern European languages) was very smart, politically-charged comments on culture and where one belongs.Songs like "Immigrant Punk" and "Underdog World Strike" are near-brilliant critiques about how Americans handle culture.Although there are some songs that are just for fun ("Start Wearing Purple" and the mostly-instrumental "Not A Crime" and "Mishto!"), this album is packed with brilliant social commentary backed, or perhaps masked, by wonderful hip-shaking musical variety.I true pleasure to listen to!

5-0 out of 5 stars Crazy Gypsy Frenzy
I bought this album based on their appearance of visual frenzy when they played a late show a while ago.I couldn't hear the sound because I was at a bar--but their music will kick you in the nuts and make you like it.
5-0 out of 5 stars This album is a golden one!
Wow!This album is my favorite. It has many songs for many moods and is a good introduction to Gogol Bordello. They are an extremely talented band.
