Editorial Review

While Blink-182's pop-punk has given more than its share of entertaining moments over their career, "sonic experimentation" is hardly what you'd expect from their sixth studio album. Within their guitar-bass-drums template, however, they offer moments of playfulness and lyricism that stretch their definition of sound. The tempo changes and uses of (relative) silence in "Violence" and "Stockholm Syndrome" borrow post-punk conventions, and lend a new feel to the band's trademark cranked-upness. (The use of treated piano on the latter song also suggests that they’ve bent an ear to a few psychedelic-pop classics in their time.) As with 2001's Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Going out on a high note.
So, I've never cared much for Blink 182.In fact, I've always pretty much hated them.Aside from acknowledging that Travis Barker is a pretty damn good drummer, they've just never really been my thing. However, their final album turned out to be pretty good. This is much more solid and mature songwriting, and a huge step forward for a band that previously seemed to be perpetually trapped in adolescence.Barker, who was by far the most talented member of the band, is given much more room to do his thing, contributing some really interesting and killer drumming.
4-0 out of 5 stars Not a Blink fan, but...
After hearing the absolutely stunning Angels and Airwaves "We Don't Need To Whisper", I decided to check out some Blink 182.I never had any interest in them, but Angels and Airwaves really peaked my interest.
5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible
I always categorized Blink as some no talent happy go lucky pop wanna be rock wanna be alternative band until hearing this CD. I heard "Down" at the gym one morning and was floored by the depth of the song. I raced out and bought it and was captivated even further by the deep and meaningful lyrics of the rest of the album. This is not the Blink 182 of the past. I don't know what happened but this CD takes a very serious turn into the anguish and hurt experienced obviously after the break up of Tom DeLonge and his girlfriend, or another member of the band and his, but this CD takes a much more SERIOUS tone than previous. The lyrics are incredibly meaningful, the music is compelling to say the least. I was never a fan until now, and now I anxiously await the follow-up. I cannot think of anyone that cannot relate to the feelings and angst of this album. It is amazing and deserves much higher accolades than I am giving it now. If you wrote off the band years ago like I had, please do yourself a favor and listen to this masterpiece, you will not regret it. ... Read more

Inevitably labeled "pop punk," Simple Plan's sophomore album finds the Montreal quintet settling in as a straight-ahead rock band. Yes, lyrically, their concerns remain grounded in the adolescent petulance and alienation of classic punk. They're "the ones you love to hate." "You don't know what it's like to be me," they insist. "We're the kids that you pushed away," they huff. Musically, however, the follow-up to 2002's popular Read more

WOW PEOPLE ACTUALLY LISTEN TO THIS!!!!!!!!!!! That is unbelievable. I would seriously be just as embarrassed to be caught anywhere near this as I would with a Barney DVD. Im serious, I kinda cant help but think tyheres something wrong with the teens that listen to this stuff. i meen I guess I understand if your a teenage girl or something, but I can't imagine why a male older than the age of 11 would listen to this? Look this isn't an insult, its a cry for help.

2-0 out of 5 stars Neeeext...
I bought this album when I was 20 and drinking a lot of crappy beer, it goes along perfectly with that mind set in that you don't haft to really do much thinking or worry about getting stimulated into thinking. It's pretty juvenile. What I'm trying to say is this, if you're still listening to and enjoying tripe like this when you're 25 and up than you got some developmental issues.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!
This is one of NOFX's greatest albums. It's not thier best, though. That would have to be THE DECLINE.The best songs are PERFECT GOVERNMENT, LINOLEUM, THE BREWS, and FLES, but the rest are great too.NOFX RULES!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Punk Album.
Punk in Drublic is NOFX's masterpiece. Every song is punk, there's no other NOFX album as good as Punk in Drublic. NOFX will never top this. Songs like Linoleum or The Brews are the best songs in the album. NOFX luckily never sold out because they are not in the s****y MTV. If you are starting with NOFX please buy this. You can buy also So Long and Thanks For All the Shoes which is great. This album is %100 underrated. Easily one of the most underrated albums of all time. Thanks NOFX for a Classic Punk Album. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars average
What first brought me to the attention of this band is the obvious saosin who I found to be catchy and a pretty good listen but what stood out for me most of all was the vocals ofAnthony Green. So looking at a lot of reviews on the high pitched, angelic vocalists new band circa survive made me eager to give them a listen. I heard a good three tracks including "the great golden baby" and was looking forward to purchasing the album. I thought the songs were sang beautify and the instruments were played well but something was missing, I just found the album repeating itself and every song sounding not dissimilar to the next. It lacked that little extra kick, I understand the idea genre of it but it just didn't seem to build up to anything. The songs are mono toned and the lyrics aren't anything special. In all honesty it was disappointing but there are a few gems on it having said this. I recommend you buy this album but don't expect to be blown away. Its nice easy listening but hardly tears into your emotions.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not terrible, just forgettable
There's just nothing that stands out on this album--no catchy hooks or melodies, the guitar work is nothing amazing, the vocals have a certain sameness on all the songs--and to be honest, I find Anthony's high-pitched coo-to-screech vocal range rather grating and obnoxious.
5-0 out of 5 stars creates some impossible hybrid bridging the gap between classic progressive rock and modern emo metalcore
We've been super into that new strain of epic, super complex emo prog lately, bands like Chiodos, Coheed And Cambria. Groups that combine killer metal riffing, super dense and complicated prog arrangements, with super emotive wailing vocals. Like a whole new breed of punk rockers re-discovered Yes and King Crimson and managed to create some impossible hybrid bridging the gap between classic progressive rock and modern emo metalcore. 4-0 out of 5 stars A good preview
These guys are amazing musicians; perfect together - a modern Simon and Garfunkel. This album is pretty good on it's own, basically the best modern rock out there, if you'll call it that. It's hard to call it anything because these guys are totally unique; it's a sound I've been lookin for but haven't found in other artists.Even better are there next two albums, and more diverse.

5-0 out of 5 stars BOMB!
If you like the guitar and some chill mellow music, you gotta have this CD.

Long Beach garage kings Sublime rode the cresting wave of late-'80s/early-'90s Cali punk to a well-received 1996 major-label debut whose success was overshadowed by tragedy: frontman Brad Nowell died of a heroin overdose just a month before its release. This 1994 album was their freshman indie outing and the record that largely secured their ticket to the majors. 5-0 out of 5 stars don't expect to be blown away
As someone else said, FOR FANS ONLY. Do not start at this CD whatever you do. A very layed back listen. A lot of remix dub type songs and it was very rushed. a follow up of the timeless masterpiece "40 oz. to Freedom". From the first song you can tell the CD isn't exactly super melodic and well thought out. it is great though, a lot of catchy tunes, easy listening. you don't have to think about it just cruise. I don't know how to classify sublime they are a whole bunch of genres put together but this CD is good stuff. not a lot of people know about it either. Buy 40 oz to get started but after that this will surely fit right in with the rest of your sublime collection.

3-0 out of 5 stars great songs sadly brought down by a bunch of messing around
this album has some great sublime songs! songs like "saw red" "stepping razor" "greatest hits" and "all you need" are truely great...poolshark isnt that bad either...but many things on this sound too weird and much like a live recording would..with all the voiced talking and stuff like raliegh soliquies..or just demos.
5-0 out of 5 stars Come join the sloppy drunken revelry!
Im a huge sublime and music fan, and this is probably my favorite album by sublime and my fav album of all time. Everything about sublime that i love, (the sloppy, randomness, vast range of musical styles, large amounts of bizarre dubs) is here to behold. I think this album shows more of the personality of Bradley and the band than any of the studio albums, everybody seems like they are having a great time, and I would love to think about Bradley jamming and having fun with lou-dog where ever he is.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hell Yeah! is right!
This band is one of the most talented to make an appearance in this century.Miss Patricia Day Makes the band, in my opinion.Shes a talented beautiful singer who can play her bass worth a damn and actually has quite a diverse style of playing as well. Her slaps are well timed and placed in the songs, and the vocals nhance this.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely
This is one of my favorite CDs.. Every single one of the songs on the CD are different and unique, but not to the extent that it sounds like a mix CD. The band's style of music matches up so perfectly with their lyrics.

5-0 out of 5 stars sellout schmellout
I would like to start by bringing up a point...(well other than my opinion of this album which is a whole nother point in itself) anyway...a lot of people write this album off because of the departure of the sound from "..and out come the wolves". but for some STRANGE reason you rarely hear anyone complain about the vast sound differences from "lets go" to "..and outcome the wolves"."Lets go" was fast straight up punk rock 21 (or is 22 or 23? i can't remember) tracks..in less than 45 minutes. "..and out come the wolves" was a VERY different album.more mid tempo songs...with a few ska numbers (no waynot ska from the guys who were in op ivy) and at times sounds a lot like the Clash. don't get me wrong i LOVE both these records. Now onto "life won't wait" I absolultely love this record. When i firt picked this upon vinyl back in 1997 I was not really sure what i was hearing. But the more I listened to it, the more it grew on me. Over the years it has become my fav rancid album. It was a good range of a few musical styles straight up fast punk "warsaw" some mid tempo and slower punk songs "something in the world today" "1998" , "hoover st."some up beat ska "hooligans" a rockbailly influenced number "lady liberty" and some great reggae infleunced stuff "coppa de corzo", "awkward position" overall just fantastic...if you're looking for an album that is a lil more than just fast punk rock singing bout drinking, anarchy, and other fairly generic topics (which has it's place) this may not be the album for you..but if you're looking for something a lil different (who am i kidding? 90% of people reading probably already have or even own this record).

5-0 out of 5 stars Rancid's Best Album!
I think Life Won't wait is Rancid's best effort to date. It's almost like Rancid going back to the good ol' Operation Ivy days. Not that this CD sounds like an Op. Ivy CD(cause it doesn't), but I get this strange but comfortable feeling whenever I listen to Op. Ivy's music, and I get that same feeling on a few points of this album.
4-0 out of 5 stars Tis a good one!
1st of all, it's a shame that Rancid had to "prove themselves" after thsi album and what's more a shame is that they FELT they HAD to. To me that borders on selling out. Selling out doesn't have to do with money.

This is an excellent introduction to America's most overlooked rock and roll band.Dead Moon is the real deal, playing unadulterated old-fashioned no frills rock and roll.Fred Cole, guitarist, singer & songwriter, opted out of the baloney of the music biz in the late 60's, forsaking the potential to be a big rock star.Instead, he did it himself.Dead Moon embodies the DIY ethic.Fred even creates his own master vinyl, using the record lathe he bought from the Kingsmen. The record lathe used to make "Louie Louie".

Editorial Review

Remember the guys in your school who were too smart and sarcastic for their own good? Put guitars on them with a punk-pop penchant and you’ve got Relient K, Canton, Ohio’s most famous import since the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The band’s third release is a thoroughly enjoyable romp of rambunctious buzz-saw guitars and smart-aleck lyrics churned out by singer Matthew Thiessen. Who else could get away with lines like "Let’s get emotional girls to wear mood rings/ So we’ll be tipped off when they’re ticked off" in the wildly clever "Mood Rings," or "Hoopes I did it again/ Relationships are something I can’t comprehend" from the suburban-boredom tribute "Hoopes I Did It Again." Yet, the band never loses sight of its faith in these matters, always finding God at the end of their collective ropes. The tight rhythm section of bassist Brian Pittman and drummer Dave Douglas shine again, laying a foundation upon which Thiessen and Matthew Hoopes blaze away on their 6-strings. Maybe all that time in the principal’s office did do the guys some good!Read more

Okay, for starters I got this CD with a different cover, it had all four cars in a junkyard on the front. The CD is....eh...hmm...AWESOME.

5-0 out of 5 stars A pop-punk CD that stands the test of time
3/4 of the cd's I own, without exception, rarely get played after a month or two. Some grow tiresome after just a few listens, others after more, but rarely do I listen to a cd 2 years after I buy it! Relient K's "two lefts don't make a right...but three do" is the exception to the 3/4 rule. This is truly one of the best pop-punk cd's I own, with great lyrics, chorus' and guitar parts. It's catchy and driving, but it's also got nice melodic moments to even things out. I don't even have to mention that replay value is very, VERY high.

I've been on a constant high since the first time I heard Chiodos. I saw them live with Armor For Sleep back in February.
5-0 out of 5 stars break out of the scene
All's Well That Ends Well has to be one of the best records that came out last year. Chiodos can't be labeled by a simple word like 'screamo' because it's so much more than that. The band incorperates (yes screamo) with prog., metal, hardcore, etc.I know many bands say that they do this, but Chiodos rises far above those bands. The music has so much energy, you just have to rock out to it.These guys also put on a crazy show.I haven't had so many elbows to the face as I had at their show.If you're bored of the scene, check these guys out.
5-0 out of 5 stars ALL BUYERS BEWARE!
Becasue this CD is AMAZING.It's easily understood how people dont like the sound of the clean vocals, yes it sounds girly, buti dont see anyone complaining about Coheed and Cambria or AFI. Once you get past the vocals, your set to go.Brad does an awesome job on the keyboards, it gives it a different feeling compared to some other Screamo/Post Hardcore bands. But, these keyboards arnt like the usual, its more of a classical style instead of a progressive(Drop Dead, Gorgeous) or synthisizer (Blinded Black) style.

3-0 out of 5 stars more horns
When I first bought in with the out crowd I was very dissapointed. It is nothing like Losing Streak. It's a pretty good cd, but it's not less than jake. There is way to much guitar and not enough horns.

3-0 out of 5 stars The self-proclaimed "true fans" are overrating this album... we're now "In With the Pop Crowd", a.k.a. the 14 to 16-year-olds.
I don't know, guys.On track number three, I think something burst in my head and forced my arm to spasm towards the eject button.I put it on my shelf for a while, and now it's been a few months, and I listened to it again.I still think it's their worst album yet.I don't hate them for wanting to change their sound, but they didn't have to go to this extreme.Read on, though, I promise to not totally snub the album. There are a few decent songs on here.I'm not giving up on them yet, but I am a little annoyed with LTJ right now.
4-0 out of 5 stars Best Album Yet
This is, by far, Less Than Jakes best album Since 'Losing Streak'.The albums released between 'Losing Streak' and 'In With the Out Crowd' were, dare I say, boring.Every song on this album has a different sound, but, at the same time, Less Than Jake manages to stay true to their ska roots.Bravo LTJ! ... geez,im listening to this on itunes, and thinking about how much better other bands are then them.im completely against flooding with 'This band sucks!!!' no,i own this Cd and i listen to it...and the songs sound the same!!!i listen for the guitars and music, and the songs vocals and riffs sound like the same old ideas being repeated...seriously,like 'pens and needles' and 'this is who we are' begginings sound like they just took a guitar or two out.Listening to this,i just keep thinking 'havent i heard this song before!?' i havent heard their entire other album, but the tracks i heard were way better than half the repeats on this album!!!
3-0 out of 5 stars Listening With An Open Mind
I'm sick of the extremists of the musical audience. 1's and 5's just because they're emo or they're your favorite band respectively? IF YOU HAVEN'T LISTENED TO THE FRIGGIN' ALBUM, DON'T POST. Seriously, it's not a difficult concept.
5-0 out of 5 stars best album ive ever heard
this is an AWESOME album! every song rox...

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Debut-A Little Shallow on the Lyrics Side of Things
Well, as Hawk Nelson's first album, I'd have to say it's VERY good. The songs are catchy, fast, and for the most part a good comfortable rock sound that most people should enjoy almost upon putting it in.
4-0 out of 5 stars they're from canada
i love this album; it's great, it's fun, it's catchy.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
I had never heard of Hawk Nelson before I attended Winter Jam 2006 not too long ago, and I was impressed. They have very catchy songs, and it was amazing to see their bizzare personalities on stage. They sang 'Every Little Thing', which was very good, and 'Take Me' which is now one of my favorite songs. The beats they have in their music stick in my mind, I love them. Their music isn't purely Christian, however, they are leaning more towards the secular side of Christian rock. But, I would rather listen to secular Christian rock than regular rock. I enjoy listening to their music, and I will continue to follow them. Definately worth the money. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Anti-Flag delivers its own State of the Union with 39 minutes of spunk rock that preaches, teaches and leaves the listener thinking that maybe if high school civics classes were this much fun we might all very well be in a better, more enlightened place. Not everyone will agree with Anti-Flag's take on world events and, frankly, even those who do might call into question how effective it is to write a three-minute song about depleted uranium. If the group’s intended audience ends up caring as much about voting as it does bobbing its head to "I’d Tell You …." And "1 Trillion Dollars," then that same audience might soon put its favorite band out of work. In fact, Anti-Flag might forever be tied to the time in which it now exists rather than transcending it and that’s perhaps the main downfall of this otherwise strong record––in 10 years it might not have the same sense of urgency or the same blend of fear and hope. But right now Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars ok what the hell is this
I could never understand these kind of bands. You say you hate big business and talk the talk, but can never walk it. I'm not a huge fan of the Bush Administration, but after the lousy "Terror State", how much more railing against the government can you do without sounding like an a-hole? Crass was a much better band than these guys. This doesn't even float in the same toilet as Crass, and nowhere near as inventive or creative. Oh, and to the reviewer who said "There must be a reason why they signed to RCA", there is. It's called getting more money.

5-0 out of 5 stars This political shakedown! coming correct from the underground...
whoa... this CD rocks, one of my favorite anti-flag albums for sure. This CD may not be what some of the harder punk fans want from anti-flag but i think it also shows they're growth as a band. They can play more than just really loud hard punk (though they play that awesome too!!). Some of the songs on this album incredibly powerful, and some are really catchy too. War Sucks Lets Party is a great anarchist anthem, and One Trillion Dollars is amazingly moving (i mean, seriously! 1 Trillion $ spent on weapons around the world in 2004!) Every track is good and has its own message! They seem to have no problem coming up w/ new songs... there are so many things to ridicule in our gov. I just wish that more people would listen to this band's message.
3-0 out of 5 stars A true fan
Anyone who babbles about Anti-Flag "riding the anti establishment bandwagon" has obviously never listened to them. Ya this record may be a little more mellow but dont accuse them of being something they're not. Anti-Flag has always been Pro Peace and Anti War. Support the warrior not the war. Bring them home now. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Thrice just keep getting better...
And I'd like to say one thing before getting into my review. All of those stupid metal-head reviews deserve to be deleted, because they're bashing this music for simply the type of music they play. Not only that, but at times Thrice are far more closer to hardcore than they are emo. They have their "facts" wrong and just stereotype it because it isn't brutal. (I hate Hawthorne Heights, by the way). I don't go reviewing Cannibal Corpse albums and then suggest hearing real music and lyricism such as VAST, Depeche Mode, and VNV Nation, although it's way closer to what I prefer.
1-0 out of 5 stars The Most Disappointing Album Of The Year
I am a huge Thrice fan, and I love every album that they have done up to this point. If you like any of Trice's earlier albums this album will surely put you to sleep. It is a total change from punk/hardcore to a mellow, easy listening, pseudo Cold Play music. The radio friendly We Are the Invisible is the only half way decent track on the album, but you'll be sick of it after you listen to it twice. This album is boring, lyrically weak, and bears no resemblance to anything Thrice has ever done. If you like anything you've ever heard by Thrice buy any other album but this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Holy Moly
In the past was never really into Thrice due to my intense hatred of anything whiney. This changed immediately as I came upon their performance of "the earth will shake" on Youtube - one of the best live videos I've seen lately. Not many bands evolve and progress this fast in their entire careers, let alone from one album to the next. To throw out some comparisons you will never hear anywhere else: Mix the tightness of RUSH, the snazzy guitar licks of AT THE DRIVE IN, the beautiful atmosphere of U2 or COLDPLAY's x&y, the great, important hardcore of CAVE IN's "until your heart stops" and mature lyrics that take themselves seriously without being overly pretentious. Wow, do I like this. Some REALLY good production, too. Actually, the only qualm I have with this record is that it is SO polished that some (just one or two) parts ALMOST sound like the backstreet boys.... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great debut from a great band.
Motion City soundtrack is a band that never fails to impress me, no matter how many times I hear each song. They get better with each listen, rather than becoming tired and overdone. I would reccomend this cd to almost anyone. The album doesnt have abad song on it.
5-0 out of 5 stars A refreshng change
Let me start off by saying I really love classic rock.I've never heard of these wierd sub genres many reviewers speak of such as emocore, screamo etc.But what I do know is that these guys rock. The lead singer's emo tinged voice behind the pop sound of the rest of the band make for a great combo. The keyboardist is just crazy. I never thought keyboards could sound that way. There really are not any bad tracks here.Every one could be a single which makes it all the more strange that these guys arn't more popular. To say this album is underated is an understatement. They're lyrics are inventive, smart, and even funny.I urge you. give this a listen, even if you hate pop or emo they will completely change your mind.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy It!
This CD rocks! Motion City Soundtrack is an awesome band. This CD is very catchy. I saw MCS at Warped Tour, and they are great live. And they are from Minnesota, which is where I'm from, so that makes me like than even more.
