5-0 out of 5 stars I'm Not Sadistic!
Hello all. This review is to help you decide whether or not you want this album, right? Well. i have to tell you, you're stupid if you don't buy it. but apparently. you need more than just an insult to convince you. so....On with the show. I'll rate the songs by tracks. But First, what you have to realize about the Dresden Dolls, is that their is only 2 members. Amanda is piano/keyboard/toy piano/Vox, and Brian is percussion/drums/guitar/vox. Their sound is VERY UNIQUE, there is no other sound like them. It's a mix of Punk/Cabaret/Rock. Now, you may think that if it's only got a keyboard and drums, then it can't be rock. it can't be viscious, it can't be head-bangingly beautiful. You're wrong.
5-0 out of 5 stars And no one cares if your back is bleeding
My introduction to The Dresden Dolls came in the form of Yes, Virginia... That CD blew me away and I expected nothing less from this, their self titled release. This CD doesn't pack as hard of a punch as Virginia does but it's there, and it's as swift as can be. The lyrics aren't as controversial and comical as they are on Virginia, yet there's still room for controversy with Missed Me and Coin-Operated Boy. The one thing that is completely the same as Virginia is the fact that Amanda and Brian sound amazing playing off of each other, and Amanda's vocal adventures from song to song are fascinating to listen to.
5-0 out of 5 stars Love this CD...One of the best I've heard. From a fan.
Love this CD. I purchased it not knowing what it was about and I'm glad I did. My favorite songs are:

5-0 out of 5 stars Too great for words...
Tell me how in the hell a band like Green Day with their simple guitar and drum rythyms get to be so big and an alternative meets punk band like SD doesnt get near the props they should? Its all marketing strategy in my opinion.SD blows the lid off with this album.Johnny Cash's remake, Ring of Fire totally rocks along with the jazzy lyrics of story of my life and sick boy make you think about the "good times" that everyday people can relate to...a perfect five stars for me.This is easy listening that anyone can enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Favorite "New" Band since College
Every song is superb.Driving, running, daydreaming, this Social D classic makes me feel young and glad my hearing is still good."She's a Knockout" is as good as any song I've heard since college."Ring of Fire" is the only cover and it's worthy of the original."Story of My Life" is the best song and its lyrics are as good as the incredible music.Buy this CD and then "Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell" and you won't regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars SD rocks 15+ years later
Wow, this is such a great album throughout. One bonus is that it's relatively short and there are no wasted, throwaway tracks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome CD For True Bon Jovi Fans !
I have been a Bon Jovi fan for over two decades.I love their original songs and hearing them in this re-done relaxed and jazzy style is fabulous.I wouldn't have believed the CD to be a "greatest hits" in the original format, because I researched the album before making my purchase. This is an awesome CD and any true Bon Jovi fan will appreciate its artistic value.Jon's voice is better than ever and he was correct when he claimed in "This Left Feels Right".

2-0 out of 5 stars unexpected twist - hated it
I saw the song list and greatest hits in the title and bought it expecting the "greatest hits" in the form that made them "greatest." I was really sorry to hear that they were all re-made in a fashion that just was not my style.Nice try guys, but hated it.I did more research and bought "crossroads"

5-0 out of 5 stars Contrary to several buyers I love this CD!
I am a Bon Jovi freak and just love this CD.The only song on it that doesn't quite flow is Bad Medicine, but otherwise, I love to listen to it when I need something to calm my nerves.I find it very soothing. If you're a true Bon Jovi fan you will love, or at least like it too.Give it a try. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Once again, Great Sound, (Good) Lyrics
My purpose in highlighting (good) lyrics is that the lyrics are NOT as good as the sound. They are occasionally quite catchy, and sometimes even worshipful, but most of the time these guys are singing in metaphores. WHY OH WHY! But I am definately impressed with the mature musical sound these guys have developed, and semi proud of their lyrics compared to complete ride the fence bands like "Switchfoot."
5-0 out of 5 stars Loads of fun, depth, and great music on a tiny disk! Rock!
First off, I really enjoyed 'Letters to the President.'I thought it was a great debut for Hawk Nelson. There was enough fun and depth through it that I could really see them going places, and I hoped they would.

Call them the Nine Inch Nails of punk. Like NIN, the Offspring preserve the essential ingredients of their chosen genre--guitars grinding out three chords, shouted vocals, and plenty of vitriol--and layer them over a melodic base that packs considerable popular appeal. The singles from Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Offsprings' Best Release To Date
The Offspring has always been a fairly unique band. Even today they still are able to produce good sounding punk style music even with all of the mainstream radio and emo punk taking over the airwaves. Back then, in 1994, Instead of going up against bands like Nickelback or Fall Out Boy they were up against Alice n' Chains and Nirvana and still managed to sell a great deal of albums. Smash is probably the best album they have ever put out. The overall sound of everything on the album is just great. It's its own masterpiece. Just one big energetic, angsty, skate punk attitude album. I love the whole thing. Although, my favorite tracks would have to be "Gotta Get Away", "Come Out and Play", "Self Esteem", and "Smash". Pretty much everythings amazing though. Here's what I think of each track...
5-0 out of 5 stars Will always be a smash!
Ive been listening to this album for what feels like forever. and i still analyse the songs and relate. For those who know the offspring and what there newer albums have to offer please for the love of god check this out and it will be a life changing experience.. then thank me! After all who else writes legendary lines like "if you look away, you'll be doing what they say, and if you look alive you will be singled out and tried" i mean who? Also(going off the album) you get a cance to see them live, the atmosphere created is one of a kind.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE OFFSPRING'S BEST!
this has got to be the offspring's best album ever! with the classics "come out and play", and "self esteem" this IS a classic! "gotta get away", "bad habit", and "nitro (youth energy)" are a couple more of the great songs on this CD. so if you're thinking about listening to any of the offspring's albums - this should definetly be your first choice! the songs in the beginning are better than the ways later on the album.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nimrod- Possibly a classic with more editing
It's amazing how Green Day never release a dud album. Sure, everything between Dookie and American Idiot was largely unpopular. But if you ignore the critisism and actually listen to some of these albums, you may well be suprised if you have your doubts.
4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
Nimrod is a very good album by Green day. It has alot of good songs. My favorite and what i think is one of their greatest songs "time of your life" and it is the best one on the cd. It is overall a decent Green day album.

Every single one of you that gave blink 182's greatest hits a 1 star still liked them but didnt like the selection of songs they put on the greatest hits.......blink 182 sucks period.

This CD has several good songs on it but the majority of songs on it, in my opinion, are not great. I WOULD RECOMMEND buying this CD IF you like Blink-182, and you don't mind buying a CD with some songs that aren't great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Discovering Flogging Molly is better than falling in love.
I have long been a big fan of traditional Celtic music and never thought I would find myself liking music that is often classified as Punk.I got turned onto Flogging Molly accidentally on the internet and was instantly addicted to the driving beat mixed with awsome lyrics and more than one surprise per song.I immediatly bought this album and have never regreted it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Flogging Molly a great live band? Indeed, However I liked it better when it was called The Pogues.
Ahh!!, the genre of Celtic punk has really now just become a real cash cow comodity, thanks to bands like Flogging Molly, The Tossers, and to a lesser extent Dropkick Murphy's.First off Irish music is something that I hold sacred to my heart, I'm third-generation Irish-American, so bands like The Dubliners, The Chieftains, and the Clancy Brothers, are the godfathers of the genre. However, when I first heard the Pogues, I was completely blown away, it sounded like The Sex Pistols setting fire to The Chieftains, sure Irish tradition music had been around for a long time, but when the Pogues got a hold of it their sound was really pioneering."Red Roses For Me," "Rum, Sodomy and the Lash," "If I Should Fall From Grace With God," I'll even throw in "Peace and Love," still to this day rule my life.Which brings me to the question, who is the best band in the genre of Irish punk, after the Pogues.Well, none of the new bands have the fire, energy, and spirit of the Pogues, but Flogging Molly is pretty close, with The Tossers coming in at a close second, every other bands needs to get their own thing and stop looking up to granndad.
5-0 out of 5 stars THE FIRST FROM THE FLOG!

4-0 out of 5 stars More great stuff from Yellowcard
The hard stuff is some of their best. Kind of like later Journey, they focused a bit too much on the slower side, but the album is a great listen. Song #4, "Sure thing falling" has one of the best guitar riff intros I've ever heard, but you are sorry to hear it end as the song softens up, but the album is a good one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mature
I like the little more classic sound on this album, I think that it's a very mature album by Yellowcard.
4-0 out of 5 stars I loved it!
If any of you have heard the last CD Yellowcard made, then be prepared for a different sound. Ocean Avenue is a lot different than this new CD. The Lights and Sounds CD was a great CD. I'm gonna rate the songs in my opinion.

Just as Green Day aped the Ramones, their contemporaries in this Southern California punk quartet aspired to be the Clash. But also like Green Day, Rancid's fresh approach and excellent songs (including the ska-punk MTV hit "Time Bomb" and the anthemic "Roots Radicals") rose far above tribute-band level. And poet Jim Carroll (Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars might as well enjoy it...
Like them or loathe them, Rancid is passionate about music. This album is 4 friends playing music they love and it ends up sounding like it.
4-0 out of 5 stars this really isn't a review just a thought
I started reading some of these reviews and the whole "rip-off"/"wannabe" clash thing came up a lot. Yes this record in particular does have a lot of clash influence. but than again were SLF heavily influenced by the clash as well? and weren't the clash influenced by the ramones? then again who wasn't?

5-0 out of 5 stars Not for the "punk was dead in 1986" types.
First off, to all the jaded and grumpy punk elitists, I feel for you.I really do.Punk is probably the most afflicted of any music genre. But if your sole purpose of writing a review is to "school" the ignorant and tell Rancid fans to listen to Op Ivy and The Descendants and The Ramones and Bad Religion etc, you're wasting your time.

4-0 out of 5 stars AFI goe out with a bang!
AFI's Art of Drowning, is their last good CD in my eyes. The era before Sing the Sorrow is a different one, its dark, gloomy, but still rocks. AFI died in my eyes when Sing the Sorrow was released. But the last song, Morningstar could of been tacked onto Sing the Sorrow, and it would of been in there perfectly. Don't bother with Sing the Sorrow or DecemberUnderground (their WORST album to date). If you want to see AFI shining in their true last days, buy The Art of Drowning.

Editorial Review

Billy Talent delivers a rock-intensive and at times eclectic disc that highlights the group's inability to write songs that have depth or elements of surprise. True, "In The Fall" has a hook that's as catchy as a soccer anthem and the anti-scenester rant "The Red Flag" proves excitingly attitudinal and carries with it a spot on Clash-meets-Green Day vibe; "Falling Leaves" and "Perfect World" demonstrate the unit's knack for crafting ear-perking opening riffs. But each of those tunes––and virtually all those found on Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Talent Rocks
I have this CD and it is awesome. First heard "Red Flag" on a video game (Burnout Revenge) and loved it. Bought the CD and now that song is not even in the top 5 on the CD. I like every song on the CD. Can't loose with this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great Cd!!
A friend introduced me to Billy Talent and I loved it right away. This Cd is great, with a lot of gritty punk songs. Some of my favorites are A Devil in a Midnight Mass, Red flag but the whole album is great. Billy Talent is a very talented band and some friends of mine even went to their concert. I personally enjoy it very much and would like to listen to their first debut too. This is a great Cd for pretty much anyone who likes loud music or punk and I would defintely recommend it.

1-0 out of 5 stars What Have You Become?
A good majority of the people here and elsewhere will have you believe that "II" is a quality extension of Billy Talent's self-titled debut. THAT couldn't be further from the truth. The energy, atmosphere and character of Billy's debut is all but absent on "II", leaving behind and in it's place over-production and spotty songwriting. If the ballad were going out of style, Billy Talent was that first to be notified, with over half of "II" being filled with just that; ballads. Aside from that, "worker bees" is probably the worst song I've ever heard in my entire life.

Ah, this is a great album. Very feel-good. Contains some of the most rampant catchiness allowed to run around on a disc. Frontman Justin Pierre's voice reminds me of Cedric Bixler on large, large amounts of barbibtuates. His is an extremely pleasant singing voice.

On their 1997 release, Dude Ranch, juvenile hardcore-pop band Blink 182 tickled the funny bone with an assortment of dumb sex jokes, off-color artwork, and between-song skits, including one of a dog drinking from a freshly peed in toilet. 1999 was a crazy year. Everyone was getting prepared for Y2K. Everyone was out seeing Star Wars Episode 1, Toy Story 2, and The Sixth Sense. It was a year of popstars (Britney Spears, N*SYNC, Christina Aguilera, Backstreet Boys) and rap-rockers (KoRn, Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock), but among them came a little punk trio of guys in their mid-20's singing teen anthems along to simple, catchy, energetic music that would inspire hit music for years to come. That band was blink-182, the band that created tons of hits, inspired millions of teens to start bands, and popularized the term "pop-punk", and it all happened with this album.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great cd, even though it is old
Just Adam's Song makes this cd worth getting. It is the best song I have ever heard. Besides from it, there are other good ones on the album. All The Small Things was the first blink-182 song I ever heard. I don't understand what it's about, but it is really good. What's My Age Again? has hilarious lyrics, but it is still a great song. blink-182 may be gone, but this cd is still one of the best ones ever. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars I don't get it
A pop rock band with a violin?I'm sorry, I just don't get it.It's not like the band sucks, they're good musicians if you're into that poppy sound, but the violin just confuses me.There's a time and place for violin in rock music, with an ensemble arrangement for example, but not solo.IMHO.

5-0 out of 5 stars They finally got somewhere
Ocean Avenue did wonders for YC.They finally got onto the radio after about 7 years of working their @$$es off.And this album does not dissapoint. It has everything a good band needs to make it big.And compared to their first albums, "Midget Tossing", and "Where We Stand", this album is proof that any band can go from struggling to famous if they try. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Skip this and go for the real thing
At first listen BFS sounds like a great power pop band with catchy lyrics of self deprecating humor. After a couple of listens though you'll realize they're really just a cheap rip-off of Fountains Of Wayne, who instead write really smart/funny lyrics, great power pop hooks and awesome arrangements.
5-0 out of 5 stars we'll convince the world to sing la la la la la...
i've finally found the most cheerful rock album ever :)
