Bad Religion's Brett Gurewitz once called frontwoman Brody Armstrong's voice a "gravel truck with a broken axel," and his compliment isn't far from truth. The Australian native has a set of pipes on par with those of Joan Jett, Courtney Love (during Hole's Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A great modern punk album!
I'm not usually the biggest fan of modern punk -- most of the punk cds in my collection are from the late 70's and early 80's -- but I absolutely love this album. The Distillers are loud and angry, but are very capable of writing catchy songs.Brody's a fantastic frontwoman for this band, with her gritty voice and really solid lyricism.I saw the Distillers play a few years ago at Lollapalooza, and they play hard, too!Every song is good on the CD, but my favorites are "That Crazed Young Peeling" and "City of Angels".

4-0 out of 5 stars hell yeah!!!!
From the moment i put it in my cd player its never been further from the pile and i doubt its ever been in the box. One of my freinds told me to listen to The Distillers and ever since ive been jammin along with them, he thinks Brody's sexy and frankly so do I. Sing sing death house has everything a punk album needs, all the power and energy of the guitars and Brody's voice makes it complete. It's been in my mums car for months and she says she hates it but it's still in there, if my frank sinatra loving mother can like it anybody can. Anybody who is into good music should try it, even if you do like power-pop, this is nothing like it, you'll love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Oh. My. Goodness.
This is one of the few CDs I can listen to from track 1 to 12 without getting bored and changing the music; in fact, from the first 15 seconds of the first track ("Sick Of It All") I am hooked and therefore absolutely incapable of turning it off. This album ropes you in wholly and completely. It sends electric shocks through my body and makes me dance around my room like a big idiot and wish I could play the drums and scream as well as Brody can. An absolutely fantastic album, it's worth fifty times the price you pay. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Addition to blink
this cd ws made directly after 'CHESHIRE CAT' and was originaly a tape called 'FLY SWATTER'. the digitaly remastered it(as much as they could at the time) and added a few tracks to it. i'm glad they did what they did. some of my fav tracks are.....
5-0 out of 5 stars Punk-pop- oh, whoops.... JUST STRAIGHT PUNK!
Great cd. Love every song. Fentoozler is really good and its a little smoother than Chesire's Cat's. Carousel is good, and this is also the better version of it. Case in point, this is punk rock at its finest. They've gotten more pop, granted but go ahead and check out their other albums. It's not as good as this in any way shape or form, but Enema of The State comes close. God Bless Musicians, George Bush and Johnny Ramone. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Just the best music you will hear!
Sublime is just the greatest band ever to come out of CA and this is the best of their best!
2-0 out of 5 stars Good for what it is, yet doesent do Sublime any justice.
Song wise, this is a great cd. This has all of the mainstream Sublime radio hits, and they're pretty darn good. Overall though, this could have been so much more. Yet, this is 20th Centure Masters were talking about. The vast majority of the 20th Century Masters cds are under ten songs, and dont do the artists any justice, so I really wouldent reccomend buying these unless you just want a few radio hits. I hope one day we get a proper Sublime collection, though. More like Pure Cult (The Cult's greatest hits cd) or even like '....And Love Said No' by Finnish rockers H.I.M. Even if you're a new Sublime fan, their self titled would be much better if you are just getting into them. Heck, that has more than half of the songs on here and only costs a few extra bucks. You'll thank me later.

3-0 out of 5 stars what the !!@#$#@
I give it a 3 only for the fact that it is SUBLIME the other two stars are missing for a very large what the H*ll were they thinking when they only put 10 best of's.....what about the rest of them? Caress me Down !!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars AFI's best...the AFI that could have been
well, in this day and age, i think most people heard AFI's music or at least know who they are. today, the only thing tying them to this release is davey havok's signature vocals and the three letters "AFI."
4-0 out of 5 stars Loud, fast, agressive, and pissed off!
My God, I love this CD.I love AFI's punk stuff in general, but this has to be my favorite album by them. It's loud, fast, agressive, and pissed off!Everything a punk rock album should be.The lyrics are also very well written, and they're almost poetic. Not quite.AFI really started getting poetic with 'Black Sails in the Sunset', which is this band's second best.Anyway, the best songs on here would definately be 'Today's Lesson', 'The Devil Loves You', 'pH Low', 'Lower Your Head And Take It In The Body', 'Three Second Notice', and 'Third Season'.Definately reccomended to ALL punk rock fans.New scene-emo AFI fans, you probably won't like this at all.Haha.

5-0 out of 5 stars AFIs change
This is where AFI began their sound change from their first 2 cd's (answer that & stay fashionable, Very Proud of Ya). It is much more serious than the first 2, alot angrier, heavier, Darker, and more screaming/yelling as well. Some people say this is their best, I disagree, I prefer their "punkier" 1st 2 BUT i still enjoy this alot, it's all down to personal taste, it gets a 5/5 for me. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff
this album reminds me alot of the old saves the day with a new edge to it.i loved the older stuff by them and i think they really went back to their roots when they made this album.after "stay what you are" came out i started to pull away from saves the day but after hearing this new album, i'm all about them.its has a punk/pop punk/indie sound to it.a lot of the sounds are fast and i love that about it.so go buy it, its a good one.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent album
I'm going to start this off by saying that a lot of people have said they don't like this because it's not "classic Saves the Day."Here's my thing with that: artists let themselves progress and grow as they work, but still leave little touches that remind everyone that it's them, and that's exactly what Saves the Day did. They have the driving energy on this album, though the music is darker, but they've always had a little bit of a dark touch to them, always using complex and darker chords, even if it's only really brief and subtle in some songs. That is the only "classic" Saves the Day sound I can think of.Aside from that, if when people say "classic" they mean "the way Stay What You Are or Through Being Cool sounded like," then they should only listen to one of those albums and stop complaining about their new stuff (though I see absolutely nothing to complain about).
5-0 out of 5 stars They can do no wrong.
In my opinion STD has been outdoing themself with every new album and this is no exception."Eulogy", "Bones" and "Delusional"are my favorite tracks on the disc but they are all mostly good."Dying Day" is a pretty much the weakest track.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ups and downs
The Libertines are a band that would have fitted in perfectly in the golden days of rock'n'roll, and it's only a shame that they have yet to really reform. In their debut album, "Up The Bracket," this London band churns out catchy, gritty rock'n'roll with a Britpop twist.

3-0 out of 5 stars READ THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
O.K. I bought Maybe Memories at fye because that is the only place i could find it. (...)How insane is that! I love the Used so i had to have it so i looked at the conetents and it says live footage,videos,2 making the videos, and a documentory and a CD with unreleased tracks and live songs. So i think well this will be worth it. So i watch it and the documenaty portion is amazing with home videos, watching them record and Bert with his shirt off!!SWEET! So i am all excited for the live part and it is 3 songs!!! THATS IT!!! Granted they were amazing but still!!!!Bullet in a bible is 2 hours of live GREEN DAY and interviews and stuff (...)So now in thinking the making of the video is gonna be great and it sucks! They barly interview the band! The second one is even worse! So i watch the videos and they are good but come onive already seen them before. The C.D. only has 10 songs on it only 2 live and some unrealsed, but only 10. I reccomend this only if you are a hardcore Used fan (...). The only thing that is keeping me from HATING fye right now is that they are in partnership with FUSE T.V. FUSE rocks!! I love Stevens Untitled Rock Show!

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprising!!!
No, I don't mean surprising as in The Used put out a good CD (They always do :)) But most live CD's suck. This one was great!!! They are very good live and it is also very interesting hearing their stories. Actually...I'm gonna have to say they are the best live band I've ever seen. I've seen Underoath, A Static Lullaby, My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, and many, many more. So I think that my opion is very unbiest (Even though The Used is my favorite band)
5-0 out of 5 stars Best live cd ever!!!!
This is one of the best live albums that I have heard ever. The lead singer dosen't need anything done to his voice. He is a really good singer live.and the other tracks on the cd are good too.like alone this hoilday is really good, bulimic (home demo), sometimes I just go for it is really good. That is just some of the good songs on this album. The dvd is really good it tells the life story of where they all came from. And it has the making if there videos.Hope this helps someone. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars As close to perfect as possible...
The Alkaline Trio is one of my all time favorite bands. This cd is absolutely amazing. Each song is well crafted, and Matt Skiba's lyrics are stronger here than on much of their newer stuff.
5-0 out of 5 stars Still The Best Trio Album!!!
I have been a fan of Alkaline Trio for awhile now and I've heard every one of their albums several times. In every one they have a certain unexplained genius that flows forth, but with "Maybe I'll Catch Fire" they jump beyond that, into a sort of world all it's own. It's a beautifully depressing record for the down hearted. The songs "She Took Him To The Lake", "F+++ You Aurora" and "Radio" are my personal favorites and contain some of the best lyrics they've written, but you really need to listen to this one as a whole to truly appreciate the deepness. I would recommend this over all other trio records, truly their best.

5-0 out of 5 stars just a retort
this goes out to, Ryan C. Dunisch. The afformentioned song "Radio" that was done better by Hot Water music, that was Alkaline Trio, it was just a live recording. As for the rest of the CD I found it to be pure Punk ingenuity ... Read more

Editorial Review

In an era of math-rock calculations and emotionally scarred alt-metal, the rock & roll party feels a little dry on humor. Thank god for Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, a punk supergroup whose only purpose in plugging into an amp is to have a good time playing covers of songs from the days before concert venues had metal detectors.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars pretty good and even hilarious
there are some great songs on here.the 50's and 60's seemed like a good time for music.the tracks "stand by your man" and "my boyfriends back" are hilarious because guys sing them.id say add it to your collection. its really good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best covers since the Ramones
I haven't heard covers this good by a punk band since the Ramones....

3-0 out of 5 stars Good covers but....
They could have chosen better songs to cover. I think by this being their third album the luster has worn off. they should pick crowd favorites instead of some of these songs. i think there is about 5 really good covers and 2 decent ones and about 5 that should have never been recorded. I think if you want to get into the Gimmes buy "Have a ball" or "are a drag" first. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Visceral, poignant, reflective, phlegmatic. Never dull.
I am not what you might call a Placebo "fan". My favourite rock bands are Sonic Youth, Mogwai, The Fall, My Bloody Valentine - that sort of thing. I tend not to go for anything with a strong glam or prog feel. BUT...

5-0 out of 5 stars The Murphys At Their Best
Recorded shortly before the departure of much-touted piper Spicy McHaggis (immortalized in the raucous "Spicy McHaggis Jig"), this is an excellent live album and a great way to get into the Murphys if you aren't too familiar with them. The three shows it showcases span the band's catalog, picking out great song after great song, with the energy that can only be captured live. From the fastest "Curse of A Fallen Soul" to the slowest "The Torch," there really isn't a stinker in the bunch. The covers of "Fortunate Son" and "Dirty Water" are very well-done. It's not often you can get a great live album comprising 26 songs from a great band for 11 bucks. Plus you get to hear from the Reverend Ken Casey about how moderate his fees are. These guys are fun, serious, just generally a real band that will show you a real good time if you just give them a chance and buy this album.

4-0 out of 5 stars For Boston
I'm envious of Bostonites every St. Patty's Day (for a couple reasons) but most certainly because the Murphs throw a 3 day party (not just a concert, a PARTY, as author Dennis Lehane says in the liner notes) for the city. These guys embrace their fans and their fans embrace them and it's just one slambang three day celebration with punk, hicks, micks, and brews pouring. In fact, on this album is a recording of a wedding engagement that occured onstage at the show.Great stuff man!
3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as being there but pretty close
Nothing can take the place of experiencing the sheer energy of a Dropkick Murphy show, but this is pretty close to it.Some of the lyrics can be hard to understand because of all the backgroup noise, but hey that's their band. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Lots of young indie bands call the music industry on its superficiality but few do it with such obvious distaste as the Riverboat Gamblers. On the feral, catchy track "The Biz Loves Slut," the Austin, Texas punk band looks at the world through the eyes of a record company suit and, well, it's brutal: "We think your songs might need a better hook/ I promise on the good book, it won't hurt/ I won't get it in your mouth." 3-0 out of 5 stars decent punk album
This is decidedly not as good as "Something to Crow About".Not as many hooks or "singalongs" as STCA had, which is disappointing. The songs aren't as memorable, which is unfortunate.
4-0 out of 5 stars come together!
This CD is a fantastic collection of songs. My particular favorite is the "Unicorn Shave Your Horn" tune... quite humorous with the Pegasus and what not.I imagine a unicorn prancing through a green flowery meadow with beavers and lady bugs and a rainbow off in the distance.Brilliant.
2-0 out of 5 stars What happened?
I've never written or stated anything negative about a record or band in my life... However, after listening to the gamblers latest and most anticipated album, I am pissed. I was completely let down. If you are a huge fan of "Something to Crow About" or the self titled (wich are both pretty f'in high on my list) stay away from this one. This album is way over produced and "catchy". There were a couple of bangers here and there but nothing that made me want to down a pint of Jim Beam and wrestle my fridge. I didn't even here a single YEAH! through out the whole album. I love the Gamblers, but this album just plain sucks. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Desert Island Album
Yes, folks. This is one of those "10 Essential Albums" that you want to take with you when you are stranded for years on a desert island.Just about every song here is crisp, clean, fresh, catchy, driving, and just plain musical. The vocals are great, the musicianship is excellent, the material is superb. How can a punk band sound so polished? It doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but from my first listen of the first song, "Prisoner of Society", I've been a believer. Now years later, this album stays close to my CD player at all times.
4-0 out of 5 stars The Living End is such a wonderful band.
This is an excellent album. I have listened and own all their albums and i have to say this is pretty much there best. I like this album and roll on alot. This album i think is a little better though. There is just something about this band that distingushes them differently from every other punk or rock band. They have a certain style or flair to them. Maybe its that they decided to use an upright bass instead of bass guitar. I dunno. But this is a great album and great band. Get this album if your a fan of rockabilly, punk, or if you would just like to hear a great guitarist by the name of Chris Cheney. Just get this cd. Its awesome. i will tell about the best songs on the cd.
4-0 out of 5 stars the real pop-punk sound
Catchy pop-punk hooks, booming ska rythyms, and furious rockabilly swagger is what we get treated to with The Living End's self-titled cd. Elements of Green Day, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Stray Cats with a little dash of Shadowy Men on a Shadow Planet make this record an absolutely brilliant listening experience. This is one of those albums that shine completely throughout without any urge to press the skip button, as every song has a different groove than the last, and all just plain kick ass. Guitarist/Lead Singer Chris Cheney has a voice that is very reminiscent of Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, and has guitar licks that recall Reverend Horton Heat and Duane Eddy. The band is a three piece power trio who deliver the same kind of punch as Green Day as well with their pop-punk sound, but have a knack of spontaneously jumping into Fishbone-like ska interludes and surf-rockabilly guitar wind-outs. For an alternative to the likes of Good Charlotte and Simple Plan check these guys out right now as this is what pop-punk should sound like. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Blackout! done better.
I initially heard this album through doing Music Staff for my campus radio station. At that time, what I heard was Mike McColgan attempting to relive his glory days in DKM. Eight months later, however, it's quite apparent to me that while this doesn't quite stand up to DKM's Do Or Die, it does stand out in its own right. This is punk not so much for fans of DKM, but for the Ducky Boys. Somehow, though it manages to successfully combine the sound of DKM's Blackout! and the Ducky Boys' No Getting Out. Not quite Oi!, but nevertheless a good slice of PFR.

4-0 out of 5 stars accessable fluid street rock n roll
Mike-the vocalist for these guys made his name with early Dropkick Murphys stuff.
5-0 out of 5 stars Once again, amazing.
Mike was always near and dear to me, back in his Dropkick days and I must say, when he left and Bruisers boy Al Barr took over, I never quite felt the same (though I continue to LOVE the Dropkick's and have everything they put out). When Street Dogs came along, and I heard what they were laying down...I knew that what I'd been waiting for, for so long, had come around.Once again, with this release, they do not fail to deliver the goods that never fails to reach right into me and touch me every time.

5-0 out of 5 stars an album you will listen to for years to come...
Okay, I admit that when I first received this album I wasn't exactly blown away by it, but that is one of the beautiful things about music and having a large CD collection. Here it is almost 4 months since and this album hasn't left my player in over a week. This is one of only a hand full of albums I can honestly say I love every song. From the opening therapy session of "belt" to the more hardcore punk parts of "an orgy of critics", and finishing with the anti- anti-anthem of "Admit it!!", this album is perfect from beginning to end. I could honestly want nothing more or less in between. The amount of layers on "....is a real boy" is astonishing. My head has been filled with lyrics and musical hooks for over a week straight at this point. The only thing I would reccomend is to seek out the re-release with 7 extra tracks, even though the additional tracks haven't stood out to me near as much as these 13 it's always nice to have the extras. If you are even considering buying this do yourself a favor and let Max Bemis and the band inside your head, you won't want to let him go. Although there may be other acts to compare this band to, there is no album as whole and complete as this. If you are a fan of more lyrically introspective albums that turn your thoughts inward you will love this masterpiece of an album. It is an album that possibly in 5-10 years time will be known as collector's classic. 5 stars hands down. I will be listening to this for years to come!

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars isn't enough
Max Bemis's Say Anything ...Is a Real Boy is nothing short of perfect a masterpiece up their with the likes of Sgt. Peppers, Tommy, Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust. Many people who complain that music is too bland nowadays have obviously never listened to this album. Buy this now if you haven't already.
5-0 out of 5 stars Progressive
The mainstream label debut of Say Anything is, in most respects, a real gem of deliciously sinful postmodern originality. It's suburban to the very core, almost comparable to the best qualities of The Bloodhound Gang with just a tinge of the self-honesty of Bright Eyes. A merging of those two bands would likely yield offspring comparable to ...Is a Real Boy (and it's sister disc, the slightly darker ...Was a Real Boy). Musically speaking the disc reflects painstakingly crafted pop production with scintilating rythms and hooks which are accentuated to the point of dark irony by frontman Max Bemis's devilishly engaging lyrical debauchery. It is in fact the lyrics which separate Say Anything from the hoardes of Hollister Era mall-core pop-punk outfits of the current times, for they reflect fiery vitriol unmatched by a good number of much more "hardcore" outfits. When Bemis's pen touches the pad it goes captivating places, from the bleak plasticization of the sexual experience through the mechanical anonymity of the internet as a medium for forming new relationships on "Wow I can get sexual too" to the shades and dimensions of drug-induced protcrastination as a sole means for inspiration on "Red Cat/Yellow Cat". There is indeed a ferocity on some of the songs that recalls the merging of rawness and production on albums like "Appetite for Destruction" with blistering thrashers like "Little Girls" and "Every Man has a Molly". Creature-horror lyrics as an analogy for sexual dependence makes "Spidersong" an especially twisted variation on a normally PG-13 genre of music and songwriting, and produces yet another standalone banger which can be played again and again. The succint message that Bemis is broadcasting seems pertinent enough, the recognition of banality, the transformation of malaise and frustration into inspiration and progress, the dismissal of superficiality and snooty postmodern intellectual entrenchment (Admit It is a vitriolic attack on the modern dumbed-down intellectual "elite" that carries a fire and energy rarely even grazed by tired modern pop music, overproduced and overplasticized. Say Anything is a compelling portrait of the mechanical, devoid face of modern American culture that is at times horrifying, but ultimatley beautiful in the end, as love prevails. ... Read more

Download No Cigar and Penguins and Polarbears and pretty much forget about the rest.Spend your money on For Monkeys and Life on a Plate, though I can't take too much of their whiny lyrics at one time.

5-0 out of 5 stars STUFF
Okay, this is definately not Relient K's best album, but it is great.I like their older songs because they actually say "Jesus" when they're talking to him, unlike in their newer stuff.Anyone who doesn't like them because of religious songs heres wut i say to you, "GO DIE YOU FRICKING CRACKHEADS!!!" hehee that was fun. anyway, yeah good CD and yeah and um....
3-0 out of 5 stars A so-so debut for an otherwise phenomenal band.
I am one of the most faithful RK fans you will ever find, so that statement is significant. In comparison with every subsequent CD, their self-titled debut is severely sub-par. While they establish early on their lyrical wordplay and tongue in cheek attitude, the band's musicality is painfully undeveloped at this point. The melodies for the majority of the songs meld into one, making them indistinguishable from each other. However, RK's potential is also obvious, particularly in the stand-out track "Softer to Me." Along with "Wake Up Call," this song shows a sign of better things to come from this young band. (And we were not disappointed!) While I think they've definitely done better, any good RK fan needs this album to know their band's roots.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reliant K......"DROP YOUR LABEL!!!!"
I was fortunate to be introduced to this band via a live video of "Be My Escape" which was a great introduction. I immediately took to the song and the band and bought the album. A truelly first class record on all fronts. As the months went by I kept wondering why they havn't broken out. Then I recentley witnessed the trainwreck of a video for the same song. Who the *^%$ put the "Okay Stamp" on that one!!! My advice to the band..."drop your label and move on!!!" Any label that would allow that piece of crap to be paid for and released needs to have their heads checked. Judging by the exceptional quality of this album and the little air play and attention it's recieving I'm gonna have to repeat the afformentioned advice. DROP YOUR LABEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic garage rock with a punk feel
The Exploding Hearts were a bunch of young kids playing a musical style twice their age but you wouldn't know that from their flawless recreation of the sounds of the classic rock n' roll/garage movement of the late 60's. Despite their youth, there's a timeless feel to their modern take on this genre as they belt through a series of rock n' roll originals that surely would have been chart toppers in that era. Helping this out is the absolutely retro straight out of the amp, fuzzy around the edges guitars and a strict adherence to blues based rock songwriting but with a superb flair for writing memorable songs that stick out from the considerable amount of bands playing this style past and present. They also incorporate some of the energy of the early British punk movement, keeping things moving at a brisk pace that keeps the interest level high from start to finish.
5-0 out of 5 stars they could have been big......
Most people who adore the Exploding Hearts have the secret of this wonderful album kept. This may be a good thing, because it is cool for bands to have a cult following, espacially as good as this. I am sure that the Exploding Hearts could have been popular, but I think it would be harder to enjoy their music if they were. At least we are lucky enough to have an album like this. God bless the Exploding Hearts.

5-0 out of 5 stars I really have never met anyone who didn't like them.
Every kid I've shown this band to either immediately fell in love with their incredible garagey power-pop sound or sheepishly added them to their 'favorites' list a few days later.
