2-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing after a stellar first effort
If you aren't a hard-core fan don't buy this CD. Spend your money on their first CD or "Hearts of the Innocent". If you have those two, be content that you have their best.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
The lyrics on this cd are amazing!I especially love "Passion."It describes just how I feel about Christ. The album is beautifully written with the sweet sounds of bass and guitar.I'd recommend this cd to anyone who enjoys the sounds of Linkin Park but wants to enjoy heartfelt worship.Definitely worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsomeness
This CD as well as all the others is amazing. Good hard rock with great strong lyrics. Many people will say "This CD is a lot better than Strong Tower", or "Dissapointed with S/T because the songs were too slow", and even "This is a lot more mature". What they don't realize is that Strong Tower ISaworship album! Being able to slow down for a while and praise God with music like that is not a bad thing!

This is one of those thrown together soundtracks. All the cookie cutter, whoever is on the "popular music chart" crap music. There was only one cool song in the entire film and it's not even on the soundtrack.I hope the band sues.Don't waste your money on this garbage. There is nothing remotely interesting about anything on this soundtrack, but if you are a gullable sheep who doesn't mind being led to the slaughter,by all means buy the C.D,we need stupid consumers like you out there, you help the economy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Vol. 17
The 17th 'Now!' disc presents a few problems...namely in the rap area, where three of the songs sound as if they have the same beat...those three songs being Lil' Flips 'Sunshine', J-Kwon's 'You & Me' and Jadakiss's 'Why?', Jada's taking the crown as the better of the three. Those few flops aside, this album does sport 'Lean Back' which is one of the coolest rap songs in a long time, and yes there is Beastie Boys returning to the game with 'Ch-Check it Out' and they do a pretty good job at that.Black Eyed Peas deliver their worst song ever (hate this crap, always have) while Nelly and Jahiem (hysi) deliver a nice smooth r&b/rap track that is sure to please many.

Editorial Review

Nearly doomed by frontman Craig Nicholls's erratic behavior--which resulted in a penchant for engaging in onstage violence with his band mates, coping with a debilitating McDonald's addiction, and generally acting like a doped-up donkey (later diagnosed, according to the band's label, as a rare form of mental illness called Asperger's Syndrome)--the Vines are seemingly back on track with their third album. Having shaken the "Australian Strokes" tag, the group is free to fully indulge its Nirvana/Beatles amalgam, moving from compact, rocket-fueled garage rockers like "Gross Out" and the self-defeating "Don't Listen to the Radio," to more relaxed fare, such as the Bowie-esque closer, "Spaceship." But for all the ups and downs, there's still something contrived about them (maybe it has to do with idiotic jingles like "Futuretarded"), making Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars At least give them some credit, will you?
There's been so much clamour, ciritcism, and fuss about The Vines lately, especially with their newest release, "Vision Valley". I agree, it's not as good as either "Winning Days" or "Highly Evolved". But we should thank the band that they weren't forced to disband due to frontman Craig Nicholls having Asperger's syndrome which made him struggle with the situations. We should be greatful that Craig was at least able to make another record with the band and that he knows what he struggles with and what he has to do to deal with it. As someone who has Asperger's myself, I should know! The Vines may well bring about a better, and longer record in the future, they even plan to perfrom some occasional jigs, although they may avoid a full-length tour, as it's proven to be just too emotionally draining for Craig. But enough with all the fuss, it's time to at least give the band credit for being able to do anything at all, which they prove here, they can!

1-0 out of 5 stars Basically unlistenable
I have all of The Vines work and generally buy it without hearing it because I consider them to be one of the better bands recording today. After Vision Valley, I will have to reconsider.I don't have a problem with the length of the songs or the album, as a whole, but the quality is lacking. If "Spaceship" had not made the album, there would be nothing redeeming about the album, whatsoever.None of the other tracks would even compete for space on either of the previous two albums. Its like an album of studio filler to keep the record exec.s happy.
3-0 out of 5 stars Blurred vision valley
The Vines have to be one of the most overrated bands out right now. I'm not saying they're talentless, but I've never been able to give any of their albums higher than three stars. And Vision Valley is no different.

Sixteen-year-old Skye Sweetnam's debut sounds more like noise you might hear at the Macy's junior department than noise issuing from anybody's basement. But that's as it should be. 5-0 out of 5 stars one of the best albums ever
so a lot of people have written off skye as another bubblegum pop avril rip off, mediocre at best. i've read a lot of reviews saying "she's ok, she could be better, nothing special..." well, i consider myself a very open minded person, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion... except when it comes to noise from the basement. this VERY SPECIAL album deserves no less than 5 stars, and i will tell you why.

I heard Skye's music back in 2004 when her album had just come out. Only, they didnt release her album in my country. So i heard her music through 30 second online samples. It was then that i decided that i wanted her entire album. So somehow, i managed to get it. And i instantly loved it.

Editorial Review

With a handful of indie releases and a few hectic years of touring under their belts, this release marks the Ataris big-label bow. And if the concept uniting it is an ode to the power of memory--a conceit attributed to Richard Hell, but one that ironically might as well have originated with the likes of Billy Joel--Kris Roe and company blitz their way through it with kinetic power and hooks to spare. But therein lies the rub: Fans will find this an album rife with positive energy, bright, well-constructed songs, and upbeat deliveries (if sometimes in service of awkward intellectual pretensions like "Unopened Letter to the World"'s parallels between Kurt Cobain and no less than Emily Dickinson); cynics may hear at as further evidence that punk and alternative rock have been co-opted in service of formulas as well-honed--and rigid--as anything the dreaded Corp Rock '80s ever yielded. Still, if play-it-to-the-back-rows, unabashed power-pop is what the Ataris were after here, they've delivered it with nigh perfection, right down to a slick, pumped up cover of Don Henley's classic-rock warhorse "The Boys of Summer." 3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, not bad at all...
Sure, not every song is worth listening to, but I have major respect for this band. They're classed with other pop-punk bands who I have no respect for at all, but The Ataris are somewhat different. The band is levels beyond other bands in their genre. I can't quite put my finger on it though. I'm not sure if it's the sound, the lyrics, the vocals, or something else. However, I do know that they deserve a listen.
4-0 out of 5 stars To all the reviewers who gave "So Long Astoria" a bad review.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of Their Best
This cd deserves a grammy! One of my favorite cds ever. Every song is good. One for the Razorbacks is a great song. The story in the paper about Laurie L. is awesome. Parents should be warned that the following songs are innaproproate: 2,000 Light Years Away, My Generation, Best Thing in Town, Words I Might Have Ate, and Dominated Love Slave. "Love Slave" is sung by Tre Cool which is a big change. The first 5 songs are the best. (You gotta listen to "Private Ale.") All in all, this is an excellent compact disc.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great pre-major label Green Day
I hope that since it's not available, this will some day be re-released because it's what deserves to be noticed from Green Day. Besides, this is the album that has the first recording of "Welcome to Paradise." This album is one of my favorites from Green Day, maybe even my actual favorite. Every one of the tracks stands out well on their own, whether it's really goofy like the Tre Cool-penned track or just the plain greatness of songs like the first two on here. Also, people are saying NOW how they're so simliar to the Who, but did you know that on their "Sweet Children" EP (the actual first GD release; tacked onto the end of the release) that there is a cover of "My Generation"? Oh, and it's a fun cover at that. This may have not seen the success that "Dookie" and "American Idiot" have seen, but it is at least as worthy in your collection. Before they had the ambition to make movie-like albums or get real big, there was "Kerplunk!"

There are few things more depressing than a goofy punk rock band that suddenly decides it needs to be taken seriously. Sum 41 did a brilliant job parodying corporate rock, pop and a large chunk of the '80s with breakthrough hit "Fat Lip." But over three albums, the Canadian band has unwittingly gravitated in that very direction. On Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Rock on Sum 41
I heard of Sum 41 from the Cheaper by the Dozen soundtrack. They sang "In too Deep"I love that song so I check out some other songs by them. This album is pretty good, I like three songs on it: Pieces, Some Say, and There's No Solution. They're mostly Punk and Hard Rock.Sometimes they'll play some metal.I don't like metal.Anyway, this album is pretty good.I'm not sure why I never heard them on the radio. They rock hard!if you like Green Day you'll probably like Sum41

4-0 out of 5 stars Sometimes Rock, Other Times Punk
This is a good, decent record. It's not their best, but it is a good decent record. It seems that Sum 41 is attempting a sort of evolution toward a more serious rock band.Given their brief history, it's an interesting choice.I can't decide if they have decided to embrace their punk roots or shed them with this record.
5-0 out of 5 stars VERY VERY good
I love this CD... I'll honestly admit.. I didnt even know who Sum 41 was until my BFF played this CD for me... I loved it!!!! Unlike SImple Plan... some of these songs actually have meanings if you listen to the lyrics... like No Reason,Pieces, Some Say and 88...All the tracks on this album are good... youll find yourself humming them constantly...like i said.. the lyrics really have meanings... Sum 41 is catching up to bands like Green Day...I love 88.. "i hope someday you have it all" I like the message in that song...BUY THIS!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Vol. 14
Boasting a slur of hits but failing to nail down any real standouts 'Now! 14' falls short of the pack a bit. There are some strong tracks like '(There's Gotta Be) More To Life' by the very talented Stacie Orrico, and even the overplayed 'Where is the Love?' as well as Justin's 'Senorita' but with an overabundance of trash like Ginuwine's horrible 'In Those Jeans' and the overplayed and nausiating 'Suga Suga' by Baby Bash and Frankie J, not to mention Foutains of Wayne and Ataris delivering more and more crap.At least there's Good Charlotte to make up for that.
4-0 out of 5 stars don't buy this : i'd give it 0 stars but i put 4 by accident
most of the tracks on this CD aren't worth it. i mean, it seems as if the majority of them are rappers talking about how they're such pimps...that's not what i call music. and the lyrics can get pretty vulgar, too.

This CD is awesome. This is what really established Less Than Jake in the public scene. This is a great album, full of catchy horns and just overall great ska. 5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!
SO, I'm not a kid. I'm actually 17, but I never spend time on amazon, so you get the point. Anyway, I really hate most new music these days. It all sounds the same. Nobody ever catches my attention anymore, and of all the so-called "AmAzInG" bands that rule the scene, 90% of them don't impress me. ANYWAY, I really REALLY liked "controversy loves company" by the audition. I wouldn't have even known about this band had it not been for a friend, and now, I'm telling everyone I know! The last modern CD I ever actually got the urge to buy was Green Day's "warning", and that was like 5 years ago! Trust me, the audition are worth knowing about. Even if you hate most new music, "controversy loves company" is a must have. You'll be playing it until the plastic chips, and that's no lie!

okay, i never review anything for amazon.ever.at all.until i bought this cd.every song is awesome.this is not one of those cd's where the two singles sound awesome with the rest of the songs sounding mediocre and bland.every song sounds as powerful as the last.i highly recommend this for anyone/everyone.i can already tell that theaudition is going to be the next "it" band. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars It was for the betterment man...
this is a good album by NoFX and a really good listen. There are some great songs on here with some really good/funny/creative lyrics. anything from "getting high on the DL" to the awesome political "The Man I Killed" which is probably my favorite song on the album, it's so powerful... and don't we all just want to do that? Great punk, great music, great lyics, great message. A very solid release from an outstanding band.
5-0 out of 5 stars they are back
I must say, this album really blew me away. even though I am a NOFX fan, I thought their last 2 albums were not up to par (gently speaking) so I thought that albums such as "so long and thanks..." would not be matched any more - what a shame.
3-0 out of 5 stars Far from their best.
I don't have much to say about this album. It's a real shame to see them slowly hit the downward slope that so many other older bands have, and I was really counting on them to keep hitting on strong (See Pennywise, Lagwagon etc) in terms of musicianship and songwriting. Don't get me wrong, I still listen to it and enjoy most of the songs and the messages are all still there in their humourous, crude and sometimes dire form, but this is not the same NOFX I hear when I throw Punk in Drublic on or Ribbed. I'm glad they're still going strong after 20+ years, but maybe this record will mark the end of the road? Who knows. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hell of a way to go out
This is a great album, though it has a much more polished sound than their previous work. This may be a problem for some, but it's full of great songs and if you had nothing to compare it to you'd be blown away with no questions asked. Hard to believe this was the final act for Jawbreaker.

4-0 out of 5 stars My mouth is open, my book is shut.
I had never heard of Jawbreaker until reading an interview with Blake - then in Jets to Brazil - in Giant Robot magazine back in 2001.
5-0 out of 5 stars That Rare Perfect Album
I've said this before (very rarely, mind you) but this is a perfect record.A friend of mine used to play this at work around the time he was dropping out of high school (and for many years after). He epitomized every lyric on "Dear You."He actually dropped out of school for admirable reasons (faculty and teachers didn't respect the students) and I really admire him for doing it.(By the way, he is now in his second year at a major university and is a straight "A" student.)He's cool because he stands up for what he believes in and does things his own way (not to spite others but because he doesn't need to "fit in.")This is the album version of his life.It very eloquently expresses the angst (real angst, not the cliched version postured by so many "alternative rock bands" today), hurt, guilt, pain, and even love (and lust) experienced by your average young person (but in a completely above average way)."Dear You" is one of those rare, absolutely honest, artistic records where everything rings true (lyrics, music, attitude, and even the production quality). It is a deeply inspired piece of work. That's saying a lot for punk/pop album. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this cd-you'll regret it
Wow, I hope Precious M was joking when she/he said that the lead singer would brag about how he's a "musical genious". Musical idiot is more like it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Still a good Buy
When i firsted listened to it i put it away and didn't both with putting it on again untill i ripped it to a mp3 cd for the car and now that it has grown on me it has become one regular tunes for my ears. looiking at there other cd's it's still not the best but if you do like some of there Songs then it's still a good buy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good CD, from a not so good band.
Stories and Alibies is an excellent album. It's origional, catchy. Upbeat, and carries a beat. What is a joke is the band. They suck live. I give their crew a lot of credit for making this album sound good. Becuase they didn't sound good live, and they sound good on here. They are deffinately an album band. Good on CD, bad in person. Also, their other releases suck. They are a one hit wonder. They need to see what style works for them, and what doesn't. On their first ep, they tried to be screamo, and it was disgusting. Un orgional, he has a terrible screamo voice. Than on their full length, they went to emo, smart choice. He has great melody. Turned out to be a great CD, than their new CD (which isn't out yet, I downloaded it. It's called Voices), Is completely awful. They are now a weird rock style, which is neither instrumentally impressive, nore vocally impressive. It's garbage. I've lost respect with them. I like when bands change styles and all, if it's for the better. But if you have a good formula, why change? Buy this album and none of their others. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Every Band Evolves
I've heard the full catalog of Alkaline Trio and every album offers somthing different. If they were to write and sing songs that sounded the same and constantly touched on the same topics then they would get flamed for that. Why is it people can't just let a band change over time instead of producing the same songs over and over again. If Weezer did that then noone would like any album after "Pinkerton" because it would get compared to every song as an abomination or combination of two gems from the original album.Say what you want but this is a good album. The songs are well done, well written and they even make an effort to touch on their orignal songs in tracks like "Burn" and "Back to Hell".
3-0 out of 5 stars Impressed... 3.5 Stars..
I bought this CD on a whim without having heard much of it. That said, after having listened too it awhile it has impressed me. It isn't the most groundbreaking album I've ever heard, but its just good music. Compared with older Alkaline Trio cd's this does have a more mature sound. However, it does have the feeling that they are trying to attract a broader audience, so it does have a more pop feeling too it. While I wouldn't call it over-produced, for lack of a better word, thats the feeling this album gives you. You can tell by the album cover that it has a more "produced" feeling too it. But thats not a bad thing in my opinion.
2-0 out of 5 stars Just another band
I'm not really feeling this album.A coworker recommended it to me adamantly, and said that "Mercy Me" is the best song on the album.Well, they were right about that, with "Time to Waste" following in second place. All other songs kind of lag behind and/or sound too similar to other songs.I love the piano introduction to "Time to Waste," and "Mercy Me" is catchy, but other than that this album is a waste of time.Crimson is the color of my tears of boredom. ...
