5-0 out of 5 stars One of Their Best
This cd deserves a grammy! One of my favorite cds ever. Every song is good. One for the Razorbacks is a great song. The story in the paper about Laurie L. is awesome. Parents should be warned that the following songs are innaproproate: 2,000 Light Years Away, My Generation, Best Thing in Town, Words I Might Have Ate, and Dominated Love Slave. "Love Slave" is sung by Tre Cool which is a big change. The first 5 songs are the best. (You gotta listen to "Private Ale.") All in all, this is an excellent compact disc.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great pre-major label Green Day
I hope that since it's not available, this will some day be re-released because it's what deserves to be noticed from Green Day. Besides, this is the album that has the first recording of "Welcome to Paradise." This album is one of my favorites from Green Day, maybe even my actual favorite. Every one of the tracks stands out well on their own, whether it's really goofy like the Tre Cool-penned track or just the plain greatness of songs like the first two on here. Also, people are saying NOW how they're so simliar to the Who, but did you know that on their "Sweet Children" EP (the actual first GD release; tacked onto the end of the release) that there is a cover of "My Generation"? Oh, and it's a fun cover at that. This may have not seen the success that "Dookie" and "American Idiot" have seen, but it is at least as worthy in your collection. Before they had the ambition to make movie-like albums or get real big, there was "Kerplunk!"

4-0 out of 5 stars High Quality Power Pop/Alterno-Rock
This is a really good album of punchy rock... while it is labeled "alternative" by some, Nada Surf is so straightforward and refreshing on HIGH/LOW, they seem to be channeling the best parts of Jimmy Eats World and Weezer at the same time. The songwriting quality is excellent, and the lyrics are often meaningful, witty, or poignant, hinting at the moments of genius to come on future CDs like LET GO.
2-0 out of 5 stars Slightly above generic
With few exceptions, this album sloshes through with pretty mechanical inclanations..Nada Surf were obviously just starting out, and by no means is it a bad debut rock alternative album, but it is definitly the wrong place to start, hardly hinting at their greatness to come..

5-0 out of 5 stars Nada Surf's Shining Moment.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Top Five Live Albums of All Time
If you can only have one Talking Heads album, then get this one. Frenetic energy, fabulous changes, perfect pacing, it captures the entire Talking Heads legacy. "Life During Wartime" and "Take Me to the River" are unbelievable to end the set. I wish The Clash had something like this for posterity. This compares to The Band's "Last Waltz" for best rock performance in a live setting. Daniel

3-0 out of 5 stars I like the liner notes better than the music.
I love Talking Heads.I do.But I love them in the way that someone who knows them mainly through hearing his older siblings constantly playing them as he grew up loves them.I don't own many of their albums, and I've never even see the film "Stop Making Sense," though I've watched David Byrne's "True Stories" dozens of times.I picked this CD up out of a bargain bin a couple of years ago, and though I like it, I just don't feel it's Talking Heads at their best.

5-0 out of 5 stars Emo/Punk Meets the 80's - Brilliant Match
I lived in the 80's.I love the 80's.I grew up listening to bands like New Order, Tears for Fears, OMD, the Cure, Depeche Mode, Siouxie and the Banshees, the Church, etc.You should know the drill. In my adulthood, I found emo/screamo (which equals punk according to groups listed on this cd) because these harken back to those days.Oh, it's different alright but the spirit is in the right place. So this compilation was exactly what I would have dreamt up.If you are an 80's lover looking for a primer of what bands you might enjoy, this CD is a great introduction.Bands such as Relient K, Sugarcult, Emergy, Halifax, Motion City Soundtrack will give you a great peak at current music. They don't always break new ground with new arrangements.I think the most inspired retread was Straight Up by Halifax. You will never hear that song the same way again.I was amazed how a frivolous dance song suddenly had musical depth.Emery brings the best vocals of any track with their version of Holding Out for a Hero.Sugarcult holds their own quite nicely with I Melt with You.You will want to run out get these bands cds.Because I checked them all out shortly after these covers. They really are as good as their covers on this CD.Give it a try.
5-0 out of 5 stars Get Over The Title
First off, in this day & age...anything titled "punk" is not the 70's rebellion most want it to be. Nowadays, punk is anything with a distortion in the amp. But you know what? Get over it...times change. It's all about the music, not the label.
3-0 out of 5 stars Punk?
Johnny Rotten it ain't.When did punk go pop? These versions are well done, and I'll be the first to admit that I'm not familiar with many of the groups covering the songs (sorry, I'm an old guy), but this is not punk anything. It's pure pop.In fact I find it pretty hard to believe that any of these groups have a handle on the spirit of what PUNK was all about in the first place.

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth it
This EP contains two really good B-sides from Vheissu (Flags of Dawn and The Weight of Glory) and live versions of Red Sky, Under A Killing Moon, Of Dust and Nations, and For Miles. The live versions are softer renditions of these songs, and it really changes the dynamic of the songs and I think Dustin does a fantastic job on them.
5-0 out of 5 stars Must have for any Thrice fan
Only 6 songs, but it's great. I can't believe "Flags of Dawn" and "Weight of Glory" where kept off of Vheissu - they are absolutely incredible songs.

Editorial Review

Fellow Californian Mike Love of the Beach Boys is sampled to introduce this latest Offspring release and immediately it's down to business as usual. Which for the Offspring means the best-produced punk rock money can buy. Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam) turns the knobs in the producer's chair and he works pure sonic architecture. The guitars crunch with perfectly defined distortion, the drums come down the middle, and--most importantly--singer Dexter Holland is juiced to the max. Though his voice sits in the "whine" range, double tracking and other studio enhancements give the vocals an incredible presence beyond standard range, and Holland works them to convincing effect. "Come Out Swinging" does exactly that. "Want You Bad" recalls the southern California punk pop of the Descendents. "One Fine Day" double-times into both hardcore and a galloping country terrain. Essentially, it's full speed ahead with the pedal to the metal and no airbags in sight. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Good Release!
Conspiracy of One is very similar in sound as well as rating to Americana. Both have great songs mixed in with some okay ones. Still no release yet has been as good as Smash even though each album released so far still satisfies. The album is just another good release by the band. My favorite tracks are "Living In Chaos", "Special Delivery", "Denial, Revisited", and "Vultures". Those are my favorites even though there are still really good other tracks on the album.
4-0 out of 5 stars My first Offspring CD........but definitely not my last
I've wanted to check The Offspring out for quite some time and finally got a chance to. After listening to the CD for the first time I thought it was pretty decent, I also like Green Day and thought that Conspirancy of One even sounded a little better than Green Day. After about my 5th listen to the CD i realized how genius it was. Track #8 "Special Delivery" is my favorite, it's one of those songs that just pump you up.
2-0 out of 5 stars My least favourite Offspring disc
My most recent purchase of this disc ellicited only "modified rapture". I found many songs to be irritating at first, with "Original Prankster" being the most offensive. I actually had to turn it off - I've NEVER done that with an Offspring song but once and that was during "Cool to Hate" (Ixnay), which I eventually warmed up to, and this one too, after another chance. Is it odd that "Dammit I changed again" has a similar reappearance in "Lightning Rod" (Splinter)? And listen to "One Fine Day" (my favourite on the disc) - tell me you don't immediately think of Green Day! OK, maybe only the introduction. One of the few highlights for me was "Special Delivery", but probably because I can relate to the words.

3-0 out of 5 stars An Angsty Saga
I've given up my Good Charlotte fan status and tried to chuck my "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" CD ages ago. It's kind of personal, but I just kind of outgrew them.
1-0 out of 5 stars hey, this album is pretty bad
Just when you thought Good Charlotte couldn't get any worse, they go and release this pathetic excuse for an album. I don't know how they did it, but GC actually managed to produce an album so bad it almost makes "The Young and the Hopeless" sound somewhat decent (almost). This band really needs to hang it up. Does anybody even listen to them anymore?
2-0 out of 5 stars GET REAL!!
This is a big dissapointment from GC.This whole album is pretty much a fake cry for help, trying to make GC fans think that they're miserable."I Just Want to Live", "Predictable", and "Believe" are the cheesiest songs I've ever heard. They should have applied themselves instead of having false breakdowns saying, "Oh, God, feel sorry for me!"GET REAL!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest Pop Punk Record Ever?It Just Might Be...
First off, I a not a kid,I'm 17.
3-0 out of 5 stars Garage pop-punk?
New Found Glory is one of those bands out right now with the sound of a proper punk band, but filled to the brim with poppy hooks and high, whiny vocals. While looked upon with disdain by many rock fans, it is actually a pretty fun genre. You get rock but with all of the fun of power pop. New Found Glory was one of the first of these bands, and really has become one of the more popular ones.

2-0 out of 5 stars Tenderness
I completely agree with the other reviewer. The whole reason I came here was to find the final track that plays in the movie ("Tendernes") and was surprised not to find it in the compliation!

1-0 out of 5 stars about 2 good songs
I listened to this cd and was sorely dissappointed. I loved the movie and the music in the movie. usually the songs that you listen to are in sequence with the movie and this was not. Not only that but the good songs that were in the movie were left out for some reason. I am not someone that is picky about her music either. I love music. I hate this cd.

2-0 out of 5 stars Where's "Tenderness"???
Some good songs, some okay songs, some "ehhh" songs as well... but it's not really the Clueless soundtrack without General Public's "Tenderness". Big omission. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Following in the footsteps of Foo Fighter Dave Grohl, American Hi-Fi frontman Stacy Jones put aside his drum duties with Veruca Salt and Letters to Cleo to form American Hi-Fi--a wise move since Jones proves here to be a gem of a singer-songwriter and guitarist. The quartet's 13-song debut disc runs the gamut from booming, bubblegummy rock with edgy undertones ("Surround") to infectious, Offspring-like pop punk ("Flavor of the Weak"). Muscular guitars create an arena-rock feel, while producer Bob Rock (Metallica, the Cult) helps make the group's stylistic shifts seem smooth as they move from the metallic "My Only Enemy," which sounds like a more organic Nine Inch Nails, to near Nirvana on "Hi-Fi Killer." American Hi-Fi cranks out delectable ear candy for fans of pure, guitar-driven power pop. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank God for Parties!
A few years ago, after a party at my house, I found a burned CD with Flavor of the Weak on it. I absolutely loved the song and so I looked up the band online and consequently bought this CD. -Absolutely love it! The band is great and is still on my favorites list after years. I'm looking forward to purchasing their other albums.

1-0 out of 5 stars If I hear Flavor of the Weak one more time I'll kill somebody
Think I said all I needed to in the title of this review, but I'd also like to ask what is up with these teenage punk bands with the hold-my-nose-while-singing vocals? Maybe I'm just an old and bitter ex-punk rocker, but seriously kids, the bad singing has got stop.

5-0 out of 5 stars I wish I could make her see...
I bought this primarily after hearing "Flavor of the Week", which could well be one of my favourite songs of all time.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW.
This album has showed the maturity throughout the bands career.
5-0 out of 5 stars yeah!!!
This is relient k's second best CD and i totally love it, i love the religious songs, and even the weird ones are okay.Anyone who disagrees with me is on crack.

4-0 out of 5 stars Certainly a step up from their debut!
Not to knock their debut, but The Anatomy of the Tongue in Cheek makes their first album look like child's play. The overall musicality and songwriting improved TREMENDOUSLY, and the slight chessiness present in some tracks from the debut is basically gone. "Sadie Hawkins Dance" has become a RK classic, and is just a fun song. In fact, there is an abundance of fun songs on this CD! :) Additionally, there are plenty of serious, profound songs on Anatomy. "For the Moments I Feel Faint" is a gorgeous statement of faith that tells you to "never underestimate my Jesus." An essential message to hear when going through a trying time. Survival and overcoming obstacles is certainly a theme present in this album; see "Pressing On" and "Breakdown" for examples. The boys also make social commentary in songs like "Down in Flames" and "Maybe It's Maybelline." Overall, the songs complement each other well to make one great CD. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The most underrated punk-pop band out there right now
These days it seems like when people talk about punk-pop, all sights turn to Fall Out Boy. While that foursome is a good band in their own right, what's unfortunate is that people are overlooking other great bands like the Click Five. They deliver their fair share of good stuff on their full-length debut, Greetings From Imrie House.
1-0 out of 5 stars boring....
my sister got this cd for christmas of '05, and i pray for the day that she stops playing it 24 hrs straight. I thought the music industry was starting to recover from the "boy band" era, until bands like, fall out boy, all american rejects, and the click five came out. Apparently life is ONLY about love to them, they NEVER sing about any other aspect of life. The click five is just another phase in the collapsing of the music industry. At this rate, originality in music, will be a time long lost.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Punk Album
First of all this is not your typical Lemonheads album. It is nothing but pure Punk Rock as opposed to their later music. This is by far my favorite Lemonheads album and falls in my top 10 of all time great Punk albums.
2-0 out of 5 stars It's fine...But if you love this, you have issues
Folks who LOOOOVE this album, then call later LEMONHEADS "wimpy" "60's sounding" and "changed by major labels" are obviously still in high school, or just immature and don't really like MUSIC...They like a SCENE.Namely punk.If it ain't fast and sloppy, then it ain't good to these folks.
5-0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece!
I don't care what the other compilation album claims to be-- This CD is the best of the Lemonheads! The first few songs are from the excellent but out-of-print "Laughing All the Way to the Cleaners" album.Almost every single song (and there are 20 of them) is amazing and sticks in your head.Probably not for the fans of latter-day Lemonheads.Although there are a couple of slow-tempo moments, overall, this is garage rock played at hardcore punk speed. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Real entertainers
I got this after I heard 'Are A Drag' and figured that it couldn't be for real. Well, I'm sure that it is. These guys are great. I turned a lot of people onto them that wouldn't even get into punk but know these songs and enjoy what they do with them. The quality of the recording is pretty amazing. It might be lame to say, but it's probably one of the best live recordings that I've come across. Their remakes of tunes are just great and you can tell that they are pretty serious about their love for the music that they do. I didn't cringe like one reviewer did at Stairway to Heaven, it was as short as it needed to be without being blasphemous. The singing is really great on this and the things that they say between the songs are quite humorous. One wish? They recorded their break (which was kind of odd but not unlike them probably) so that it ate up time on the disc. I would've like more songs, they were just sounding great!! If you like music because it entertains you, this is for you. I am a pro musician and usually analyze music. I don't to this; it's meant to be for enjoying and nothing else.

5-0 out of 5 stars ???
I know they cover a lot of songs and all that, but am i the only one who thinks they should be shot for their rendetion of stairway to heaven?

Ok...if this album only contained "take it on the run" it would STILL get 5 stars. This thing rocks and it really is one of the better albums they've put out. There is hardly any "lack of refinement" on this album...these dudes straight up jam.On top of the music...the banter is funny as sh*t and gets more funny each time you listen to it.Stairway to heaven...bomb!Thank you! thank you very much!O solo mio?? forget about it!Hava nigila? oy vey that's a good track.and the styx cover, come sail away...eat that doubters."take it on the run" is still one of THE best songs these guys have done. Now you've heard it from a friend...(who heard it from a friend) ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Shenanigans is petty good.
This cd was pretty ok, most of the songs were catchy and punk style, but i also wish they could of put the lyrics to the songs in the booklet! Oh well, pretty good album to add to your Green Day collecion!

5-0 out of 5 stars "Ha Ha We're Not Dead Yet!"
You could fill 3 discs with the shenanigans of Green Day, and I'll admit they left a lot out on this album, but this is the ultimate prelude to the operatic, arena-rock smash hit to follow. Remember the good old punk days of Green Day with "Shenanigans".

4-0 out of 5 stars The Longest Barrel Ride/Self Titled Album 2 CD Set
I don't know what the track listing that Amazon offers is of, but this is a 2 CD set that includes Slightly Stoopid's original self titled album (the original pressing of which is extremely rare to come by) and the classic `Longest Barrel Ride' album. The self titled album shows the band in their early, rawest form. It is a 14 track CD primarily consisting of straight punk rock songs with touches of reggae and hip-hop here and there. Overall, it's a decent punk CD with above average bass work.

Editorial Review

The Donnas proved themselves more than apt at playing fast and fun party rock in a Ramones-y mold from their teenage get-go in 1998, then quickly amassed a huge following for their increasingly "pro," deliriously fun retro-rock. In 2002, they surprised lots of folks with Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars good album, where's the next?
As previous reviewers note, this album was definitely more 'produced' than previous records.Surely it was record company pressure, like, okay girls, now we're going to cash in, turn you into big stars. But the girls maybe weren't so comfortable, so it's not their best effort. And guess what, two years later, still no new album.Wonder what's going on?

4-0 out of 5 stars A Transitional Effort
It's been mentioned before, but the thing that struck me most about "Gold Medal" is the production. There is NO reverb or delay or ambiance at ALL - in some ways this makes the end result more immediate and accessible - but in others, oddly enough, it makes the band (make no mistake about it - this is a GREAT band!) sound somehow distant and sterile. The appeal of previous Donnas CDs was the sense that you'd turned the wrong corner on your way home and just happened upon the coolest and most rocking band on the planet.Listening to The Donnas was a bit like being in the garage while they cranked it out like only they can. They CAN crank it out and they do so here with a maturity and a willingness to expand their horizons that takes some serious balls.I'm sure they could recycle the familiar Donnas formula if that's what they wanted to do - but, to their credit, they're smart enough to know that in the end they'd end up being little more than a parody of themselves (unless I've missed something there's not a single reference to underwear on the entire CD!) After repeated listenings I realize that I LIKE these songs - I'd love to hear them in the garage - or on the stage. As good as the production on this CD is (Hell, I'm considering experimenting with a similarly "Dry" sound on my projects - I can see places where it would work well..) it's just WRONG for The Donna's.They need the "live" feel for their songs to have the immediacy that hits you between the eyes and keeps on hitting. They are growing as artists and musicians and I salute them for the effort and I'll be in line to buy the next effort.Go Girls!(Women?)This CD will one day be seen as the boundry between "The female Ramones" period and whatever they decide to become as a unique entity carving out a place in Rock'n'Roll history of their own.(PS - I'm available to produce and my rates are extremely reasonable!) But PLEASE - next time choose a producer who understands what makes The Donnas special instead of one who only knows what makes HIM special.

4-0 out of 5 stars Donnas grow up
Gold Medal stands apart from other Donna's releases in that it actually sounds like an album instead of a quick battle of the bands set...I can actually tell the songs apart! Don't get me wrong, they always deliver, but this more mature, polished sound with no less spunk is refreshing. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a class album by Less Than Jake
I've just recently gotten into this band and I have to say they are awesome!Hello Rockview is a great album that's fast, upbeat, and just overall really fun to listen to from beginning to end. Some standout tracks include "History of a Boring Town", "Scott Farcas Takes It on the Chin", and "All My Best Friends are Metalheads."
5-0 out of 5 stars Welcome to Rockview...
Ok, first off, I'm not a kid, but I don't have an account on here.
5-0 out of 5 stars A CD worth your money
This is a CD worth buying. I listen to it a lot and it doesn't get old. Includes cool songs like "Nervous in the Alley" and "All my Best Friends Are Metalheads" (which was feaured on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4"). If you like ska, punk, or just plain anything fun to listen to, get this CD. Every song on here is worth listening to. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Vol. 16
This album isn't as strong as some of the others, mostly because the singles on the airwaves at the time were lacking in themselves. No talent hacks like Nina Sky and D12 were taking up valuable airtime and polluting our minds with crappy music. Thank god for 'Freek-a-Leek'! Ha, well, that's true in a way.
