Editorial Review

Barely out of high school when signed as the first act for Powered By Ramen's new Decaydance imprint, guitarist Ryan Ross and drummer Spencer Smith of Panic! at the Disco had previously cut their musical teeth in a local Las Vegas Blink 182 cover band. It's that familiar, contempo-punk-pop sensibility, bolstered by the amped-up emo-core ambitions of singer Brendan Urie (typified by the snarky gem "The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage") that dominates the opening tracks of the album. It's a shrewd hook, one the band steadily expands -- sonically and lyrically -- thereafter. The nervous energy of "London Beckoned Songs About Money Written By Machines" is set off by sonic embroidery that's sounds as intriguing as the vocoder shtick of "Nails For Breakfast..." does dated. Yet "Camisado" quickly shakes up Supertramp's prog-pomp with a double-shot of modern punk-pop smarts, an alchemy the band and producer Mint Squire performs with similarly inventive, genre-blurring ambition (complete with a quasi-Grand Guignol "Intermission" nearly worthy of Queen) on "Lying is the Most Fun..." and such standouts as "But Its Better If You Do" and the arch delight "Build God, Then We'll Talk." Too many young bands are content slaves to fashion; this one has forged a promising debut by shrewdly taking fashion hostage, then standing it firmly on its head. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good CD
I personally love this CD. It is a mix of rock and tech in a sense, and is different from other things that I've heard. My favorite songs from it were "The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage", "Nails for Breakfast, Tacks for Snacks", "Time to Dance", "Camisado", and "There's a Good REason Why These Tables are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't Thought of it Yet".
4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
This was awesome. My favorite songs were It's Time To Dance, Camisado, But It's Better If You Do, Build God Then We'll Talk, but my number one favorite song was I Constantly Thank God...
4-0 out of 5 stars Eh.
When the video for "I Write Sins, Not Tragedies" came out, I never bothered to watch it or listen to the song. When "But It's Better If You Do"'s video was released, it just seemed to pop up on almost every music station. I listened to it once or twice, thinking it's not that great. Suddenly, one day, (mind you, my friends had the album already) I was in love. I borrowed it from one of them and I'd been listening to it for about 2 days tops. Final opinion:

5-0 out of 5 stars One Of The Greatest Cd's Of Our Time
Epic and anthemic, and yet every track can be listened to without the others. It tells a great story and has a great set of characters.Jesus of Suburbia and Homecoming particularly stick out in my mind.If you don't have it already, get it.

4-0 out of 5 stars You tell 'em
OK, fair enough, Green Day were the first band with the guts to actually call the Bush administration out for what it is (or what they think it is, anyways).I'm puzzled how people can say the lyrics don't even make sense - I have no problem figuring out what the songs are about! That's the lyrical review - 5 stars.I'm not a fan of punk rock so I can't fairly review this CD in musical terms, so I gave it the 3 stars of middle ground. The average # stars is therefore 4 stars.(I wonder if the people who can't figure out the meaning of the lyrics, will be able to follow that.)
1-0 out of 5 stars Brainless, mindless trash...if you like Greenday...you must be a retard.
Green Day is a completely talentless pop rock band.Ths type of music takes no talent what so ever. Its three chords played on a guitar...and nothing more. Then they put those three chords through a bunch of distortion and fuzz boxes to mask the lack of talent.Well Greenday, you little bas.ards didn't fool me with your noisy guitar pop.I know a lack of talent when I hear it, and Green Day are absolutely talentless at playing their instruments. And what are these lyrics anyway?Half the time you can't even understand what these punks are saying because the music is such a noisy guitar pop racket. And whenever the lyrics are audible, they sound stu.pid and don't make any sense."The New Media"?"The Redneck Agenda"?Lyrics like that are such a bunch of pseudo intellectual nonsense that its almost laughable.Green Day are a bunch of juvenile delinquents who probably aren't even old enough to vote, let alone know anything about politics. And the harder they try to be intelligent, the more idiotic they sound.SO Green Day, please stop writing those pseudo intellectual "social commentary" tunes that take no talent. You don't sound smart. You don't sound intelligent.Every word you sing on your pseudo intellectual "rock operas" just shows your ignorance abou t the topic you're writing about.ANd Green Day fans...how can you actually enjoy this noisy, three chord, guitar pop racket? How can you like listening to a bunch of bratty juveniledelinquents from the suburbs shooting their mouths off about politics when their knowledge is limited to riding skateboards, smoking joints, and playing 3 chords on a guitar?I'm begining to think that in order to be a Greenday fan, one must not have a brain cell. After all, that's the only way one could listen to this brainless, mindless cr.ap.Come on Green Day fans, this CD isn't a five star unless you're reta.rded. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Listen - but stop this Punk foolishness
A good buy - fast, catchy, easy, and very polished. But Punk? No. Closer to US Corporate Rock than anything else, but don't hold that against them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Growing Pains?
What people seem to dislike about this album is that it does not sound like the New Found Glory we all know and love, despite the band's repeatedly stating that it would be completely different. Whle they did that with Catalyst as well, it still retained the lightning-quick, high-pitched NFG sound yet showed signs of things to come.
4-0 out of 5 stars NFG- New Sound
I have been a New Found Glory fan forever.I absolutely love their music. After listening to the new CD I had mixed feelings about it. Overall, it is a great CD.They are one of the only bands that I feel hasn't really ever "sold out."They changed their sound a bit but just because it is different does not make it a bad CD.I really like most of the songs on the CD and I think that their music matured a little.I would definitely recommend this CD to anyone who listend to the pop-punk genre and New Found Glory fans.Just listen to it with an open mind before you judge it. ... Casting Crowns got it right.I love this CD and so does my youth group. My favorite song on there is "If We are the Body" because it speaks the truth about the church. This song hits home and asks questions along the lines of - "Why does the church judge people seeking help rather than reach out to them?"

3-0 out of 5 stars POWER POP ROCK
Firstly the new generation have a different understanding on the 'punk' vibe. Punk was more hard and aggressive than what is being pumped out today, take a listen to The Sex Pistols and Black Flag and this should give you a flavour of what punk is/was....
5-0 out of 5 stars Just funning...
Fall Out Boy "From Under the Cork Tree" is pure fun for me. I'm in my early 20's, probably over the intended demographic, but I love this band and their music. It's just fun stuff to dance around to or sing along in the car. I think the band had a lot of fun making the album, and I have fun listening to it. Okay, occasionally, some of their stuff is heavy-handed (to say the least), but I believe they meant it ironically, and even if they don't, I sing it that way.
1-0 out of 5 stars Poor
Ok, first things first, FALL OUT BOY IS NOT PUNK! Fall out boy is emo. Not punk. Punk Is black flag, agent orange...but NOT fall out boy! Their songs are bad, mostly about how their girlfriends wont sleep with them and they can not play their instroments at all. Listen to the bassist!

2-0 out of 5 stars Uneven Song Selection
The only reason I bought this soundtrack was for the version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," sung by Rufus Wainwright. I couldn't find that version on another CD. Didn't care for the rest of the songs on this CD that much.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's Ok
It's an Ok cd I'd Rather watch the movie than listen to the soundtrack some of the songs R either too slow and old or the fast songs need action or something . I got the cd 4 smashmouth's songs really .

4-0 out of 5 stars A Pretty Cool Soundtack. SHREK ROCKS
Shrek is, like, one of my "Top 10" movies. Er, that list is in my mind. The soundtrack is equally good. Some of the songs were in the movie, some were'nt. But, whatever.

4-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly, this album doesn't suck!
I thought this album was not going to be very good, but I gave it a chance and was extremely surprised. It does not suck, as a matter of fact, it's actually pretty good! It's growing on me, "Let it Enfold You" didn't.The addition of Heath on guitar has DEFINATELY changed this band for the better. This is worth a listen or two, it'll grow on you.
4-0 out of 5 stars Senses Fail has yet to "fail"
This album is good. I feel that I have now given it enough listens to give an accurate opinion.
4-0 out of 5 stars Still Searching for SF's Older Stuff
Okay so Senses Fail is known to scream. Scream their god damn lungs out. They're there to give you a headache but to entertain you at the same time. Their older stuff is WAY more screamo then this stuff. This new stuff is good but way different than From Depths of Dreams and Let It Enfold You. It's still good but I will have to get used to it first. I'm so used to their old stuff where all they do is scream. But SF is like one of my favorite bands, so I will make an effort to get used to them. "Everyday Is A Struggle" and "Can't be saved" are two of my favorite songs on this CD so I guess I recommend them to you. Or anybody reading this right now. So yeah, if you know Senses Fail by their older stuff, this CD is a little different because they don't scream as much, it's more guitar licks and more singing. But it's still good so I'm not complaining. So uhh go buy it. It's different, but a good different. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wear Yourself Out With REAL Rock To HANG High
There's nothing sweeter than REVENGE and this album has songs that will cause you to storm up a room of blastin rock 'n' roll that will cause your parents to scream, your neighbors to feel annoyance, and most of all to boost rebellious minds - the ultimate aphrodisiac!
4-0 out of 5 stars Take it for what it is: this is a good album
In certain crowds, you're not supposed to like bands like My Chemical Romance, because you're supposed to despise anything that gets air time on MTV. If you're that type of person, stay away from this album. If you can appreciate music for what it is and not worry so much about what's politically correct to listen to, you may really like this album. The songs are catchy, the lead singer does a good job and the production is good overall.
5-0 out of 5 stars Technically great, but people refuse to see it.
I like MCR. There. I said it. MCR is good, despite what all the haters say. I've found out that the main reason people don't like Green Day, MCR, etc. is because they don't want to be associated with "that kind of person." I can see that, and that's why I don't openly love MCR. I don't want the haters to shun me, and I don't want the lovers inviting me into their crowd.

Take one part Ramones, one part Buzzcocks, and one part Husker Du, and you've got the basic foundation of Green Day, a punky, witty, melodic San Francisco Bay area trio who became overnight stars in 1994 when this album, their third overall release and major label debut, catapulted them to the top of the pop charts. Led by guitarist/vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong and their secret weapon, powerhouse drummer Tre Cool, Green Day put '70s and '80s punk in a compact '90s package with songs like "Longview," "Basket Case," "Pulling Teeth," and the hit semi-ballad, "When I Come Around." One the few modern alternative rock bands with a bona fide sense of humor. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!
Green Day rocks! I love the old Green Day. My opinion is you aren't a true Green Day fan unless you've at least heard their old stuff. It's so true. THIS IS A VERY GOOD CD. GET IT.

4-0 out of 5 stars Biased by Influence
Let's get some things straight before we start, yes?First off, I was in high school when the record released.I bought it, ostensibly to give as a birthday present to somebody else I knew, but for complicated reasons ended up keeping it.Over the course of the next few years, it was one of the few records I actually owned (hard to get those buggers when you don't have, you know, an income), so it got played a lot.Quite a lot.
1-0 out of 5 stars "Dookie..." an apt title
Let me put it like this: there is not ONE good song on this album. Not only that, but it's a collection of fifteen crappy songs, especially Longview, Welcome to Paradise, Basket Case and When I Come Around, all of which I have heard a million too many times on the radio. This isn't a punk album, the Clash and the Sex Pistols are punk. It sucks. That's the short and long of it. Get the Velvet Underground's third, self-titled album if you want an example of an amazing album. Get something by the Stooges if you want good punk. Or the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Cream, Who, AC/DC, Crosby Stills & Nash, Neil Young, Bob Dylan... all are much better. But if you MUST have some alternative rock, either the Chili Peppers, R.E.M., U2 or Nirvana will do. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Forever the buzz on Flogging Molly: the records are terrific, but wait until you see them live. And you can do both with the Los Angeles band's fifth record, a dual-disc CD (10 songs) and DVD (106 minutes) that pulsate with a remarkable mix of Irish pub traditional and enthusiastic punk rock. The audio CD is crammed with fan favorites--"Drunken Lullabies," "Black Friday Rules," "What's Left of the Flag"--that have been recreated either live on stage or acoustically in studio. The latter treatment strips down the wall-of-sound live band until the mandolin, accordion, and tin whistle echo like a Saturday night in Kilkenny, turning rampant rocker "Wanderlust" into a gentle waltz and "Another Bag of Bricks" into a pub-rock sing-a-long. The album's lone newcomer is a full-band studio take of "Laura," a farewell-thee love song featured on the DVD, which includes Bridge Regan's frenzied fiddle playing and vocalist Dave King's croaky Irish twang. Recorded in seven different countries, the DVD nails the genuine spirit of Flogging Molly's live performances and tracks the stories of each band member, especially King, who recalls bolting hometown Dublin for America. Wow, just when I thought Flogging Molly couldn't get any better, they topped themselves again! This is a fantastic set with one of the best music documentaries I have ever seen! The acoustic and live versions of all the classics are incredible! My entire family loves "The Molly" as we call them, and this CD and DVD does not disappoint! We all enjoyed it together!Dave King is a musical genius, and he managed to bring some of the best musicians in the world together.Their fun and haunting melodies will be around a long time!Keep rockin' Flogging Molly!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth it
I had looked forward to this and counted down the days to release. Much old material rehashed, inferior to the original recordings.
5-0 out of 5 stars It's nothing new but still very worth it
In "Whiskey On A Sunday," you get what the product description above so helpfully states. As far as what I think of the contents, I'll let those five stars above speak for me, although I'd make it 10 if I could. Flogging Molly is the best live band I know of and it seems that they're too talented to make anything not worth listening to over and over again, or, in the case of what the CD here has, acoustic or live when you already have the album version. The only reason not to get this is if you don't care about the musicians who make what you listen to. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Rock Solid Album
This album rocks from start to finish. I agree that the songs aren't all as catchy as the "Start Static" album, but at least they didn't go screamo, or turn out a batch of lousy "mature" songs like NFG and Yellowcard. This album is the real deal (although I am surprised that the lead singer's voice has started to sound SO MUCH like A.J. from LIT) even if the material is not all that original. Overall, much better than "Palm Trees and Powerlines" and nearly as good as "Start Static."Since all of the reviewers seem to enjoy their first album the most, perhaps Sugarcult can combine this "new" sound with the sound on that album, for their next album. Definately worth the 12 bucks - check out "Riot" because it is the best Sugarcult song ever.

5-0 out of 5 stars Their best effort to date
If you're looking for the Sugarcult CD that rocks you from start to finish, this is the one. From Lights Out to Hiatus, standby to beaten up by the best punk-pop I heard in years. Driving guitar riffs, pounding drums, pumping bass and vocal harmonies that get stuck in your head for days. This CD will have you anxiously waiting for there next effort. My favorites are:
5-0 out of 5 stars Keeps getting better and better
Have loved the previously released music from this band, and this new CD seems like an amazing culmination of musical and personal development. Songs like "Los Angeles," and "Out of Phase" stand out to me as shining examples of Sugarcult's development as a band. The lyrics are amazing with depth and sophistication, but the music is still rockin'. Some nice 80's-like elements give the music a fun, bright sound, but the core of the music is still guitar-burning rock n roll. Lots of musical styles, but each seems to merely reflect different sides of the recurring themes in the lyrics. Sorry this sounds so nerdy, but I'll finish by saying that this is a great rock album with plenty of musical and lyrical elements to attract a wide audience from teen emo heads to older folks who miss good ole rock n roll. ... There's a classic episode of The Little Rascals where one of the gang can't join everybody else on the ballfield because he has to stay home with his younger brother, who has the croup. "I can't come out and play," he whines. "I've got to stay home and grease Wheezer!" Nobody at Geffen Records knows whether this was the inspiration in naming Weezer, but it makes sense. Like many of their peers, the members of the Los Angeles quartet seem to have spent their formative years in front of the TV; when they were a little older, they were just as entranced by college rock. Finally, ala the Rascals, one of the gang said, "Hey, kids, let's put on a show!," and the result is Weezer's uplifting, unpretentious, and extremely endearing debut. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Joey woulda liked this
I'm positive that Joey Ramone liked this disc.In a decade where "nothing really knocked me out anymore", this disc did it.And it's still spinning. In a lackluster, harmonically bland decade, with Rubbish flannel clad grunge bands like Pearl Jam, this was a standout. An anger veiled in sugar. Rivers and the geek boys are king.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best albums are simply colors
Once in a while an album will be produced and it will have no name, simply because the amount of talent and energy put into it could not be defined or summed up in any set of words. And these albums will go down in history as being the best of their time. The White album in 1968, Metallica's Black album of 91, and Weezer's Blue album of 94. That's right, I hold the Blue album up next to the White album. And why not, Rivers is not only the appealing front man but also the humble song writer and lead guitarist. The album creates an immediate first impression on your ears with a catchy verse chorus verse, but with better guitar riffs and licks then you would hear any normal punk rock musican pull off. The album progresses through and all of the feelings that 90's alternative (yes alternative) rock gives a fan come shooting into your veins. The teenage angst pulls you back into your garage by your sweater and you find yourself staring at old posters on the wall and when you ask your friend...whats the name of this album...you are surprised of his response when you only hear...."the blue album"....

5-0 out of 5 stars Hands down, one of the best albums you'll ever listen to.
Definitely one of the best albums there is. Every song is great, Say it aint so is a favorite, as well as The world has turned. I recommend this album to anyone aspiring to buy a weezer album, the BLUE album should be a first pick. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars well, it's progression.......but backwards
lets revisit the history of the band plain white t's. their debut album "stop" was a very anthem filled songs about life and relationships that would appeal to mostly to people in highschool or perhaps young college students. this being said because the album talks alot about doing something with your life at pivotal moments and of course relationships.
5-0 out of 5 stars improvement
are you people serious? their last album "all that we needed" was terrible! i was so disappointed because of my pure enjoyment of their old stuff, i just didn't think it was up to par and i think that the band felt the same way because they didn't wait long before releasing "every second counts" which is awesome! it's exactly what i was hoping for from this band, and if they keep it up, they'll make it big!

1-0 out of 5 stars Uninspired.
Half the effort of their previous work. The lyrics for every song are about relationships. Gets real tedious if you listen to the album straight through.

4-0 out of 5 stars 4/5; Senses Fail is not failing here!
I lifted this album from the rack at the local record store, after the clerk recommened it.The man was spot-on and had a great record of finding music, so I took his word and bought this album.
5-0 out of 5 stars Senses Fail puts out another great album
Now, i have listened to this cd non-stop since i got it. There is not a single track on this cd that is not a solid hit for the fans of SF. I hear all these people talking bad about them and i say why? I have bought each of the cds and listened to them way too much and this one is easily becoming one of my favorites. Still Searching was an advancement from Let It Enfold You. There is a lot more guitar notes that are harder and faster. They are still the same SF that came with From The Depths of Dreams. If you're a SF fan than you should love this album. If you're not a fan, go buy thier first cd and get into them, this band is amazing and will go far in the music industry. I look forward to keep listening to this cd non-stop and i hope you will to.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is simply perfect.
Without a doubt Still Searching is pure genius.

Editorial Review

While comparisons to nerd-rock dandies Weezer are probably inevitable for the fabulously named All-American Rejects, discerning listeners will note that where the cheeky lyrics about painfully awkward love end, the group's rhythmic force picks up, positioning the Oklahoma crew more as a geeky Green Day than the above-named preppy pop dabblers. No shame in that--on their major label debut, the All-American Rejects marry punk and pop with a clear sense of purpose and no particular loyalty to either form, cherry-picking the best of each and arriving at a spiky, effervescent middle ground. Singer Tyson Ritter is especially convincing in his role as hapless lover. But on tracks like the muscular "Too Far Gone" and the vaguely orchestral "The Last Song," Ritter's comrades drive the whole shebang home with instrumental freight. And you'd have to be pretty hard-hearted not to find yourself echoing the sing-singy strains of "Swing Swing" and "My Paper Heart." Fans of ironic pop--Box Car Racer, Fountains of Wayne, and their ilk--get crackin'. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars All Their Hits!
It's what I expected. All their hits, plus a couple more. The additions were a little off the wall of my normal Green Day likes, but all-in-all it's a good CD!

Editorial Review

Taking three-years between albums has made Weezer grow slower and more sober. But on its fifth disc the Los Angeles quartet is no more secure about its place in the world than it was a decade ago in longing tunes like "The World Has Turned And Left Me Here." Singer Rivers Cuomo, still struggling with adolescence at 34, is all apologies. "All I have to do is swing and I'm the hero/ But I'm a zero," he sings on "Perfect Situation," and "I am terrified of all things/ Frightened of the dark," on the lighters-aloft power ballad "Hold Me." The band, meanwhile, keeps things from getting too heavy by punctuating the songs with a familiar rush of bouncy new-wave melodies and fizzing power-pop riffs resulting in the hair-flinging metal of the future D.A.R.E. theme song and album high-point, "We Are All On Drugs." 5-0 out of 5 stars THIS WAS AMAZING!
Ok, there are some people I can tell from previous reviews who just don't click with this album. Let me tell you, this is the album that got me hooked on Weezer. I toatally LOVE this album. It might be that I haven't been a Weezer fan all my life and this was my "test CD", but this album doesn't seem to get old. In fact, to me, it became more catchy the more I listen to this. I can now say I have memorized all of the songs and love singing to them all the time. I bought the other Weezer CDs after this one and I can't say I enjoy them more. If you are expecting the old Weezer, you won't get it........ they have definatly gotten better.

3-0 out of 5 stars Instrumental rock, anyone?
I'll give this 3 1/2 stars.
3-0 out of 5 stars umm... what is this?
There are maybe 2 and a half good songs on this album.I mean, it's not horrible, and it's listenable, but their earlier studio albums were much better. I think Weezer kinda died a little with this CD. This is not rock anymore... it's pop-rock. There are a couple songs with interesting lyrics and rythem, but most of it is just the same over and over again, with no realy meaning. It's an okay buy if you love weezer, but still...
