4-0 out of 5 stars Good buy
I'd like to comment on the heck of a job the audio people did in creating this CD. They pulled the songs off of some old tapes and yet the quality is pretty good. It's awesome to hear Jeff really 'get into' the music on these songs. This CD is quite unique I'd say. Sounds like he really owned Kick Out the Jams on this version.

4-0 out of 5 stars To short, but incredible none the less. . .
I'm Still waiting for "vancouver" and a few other songs of his to be published on cd, but until the time comes when all of Jeff's material is released, this cd in wonderful. "That's All Ill ask" is a good unrealesed song, and the versions of "dream brother" and "Eternal Life" are great. I'm dissipointed there isent a good quality live version of "Last Goodbye". The one of "Mystery White Boy" is the only bad quality recording on the entire cd.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
Jeff Buckley's "Live A L'Olympia" is a work of art! You can just feel the happy atmosphere in the concert, and it's like you're actually there. Jeff's Zeppelin parody is hilarious, and every song will have you either laughing or crying!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Album of All Time!
This is Duran Duran at their finest- totally at the peak of their game.Although I love all of their studio albums, the early ones in particular, hearing them live is a totally different experience. On Arena, Simon's voice is raw, edgy, and sexy and the band performs with wild abandon. It is in their live performances that Duran Duran's true character and musical depth and emotion ring clear. This album contains a great cross section of their earlier hits. Those of you seeking a "greatest hits" type of album will enjoy this.I personally prefer the live versions of "Save a Prayer" and "The Chauffeur" as they appear on this album, as the sensual nature of these songs seem to be better related when performed off the cuff and out of the recording studio. The addition of "Rio" and "Girls on Film" to the remastered edition only serve to improve what was already close to perfection.I also recommend obtaining the DVD "Sing Blue Silver", which is a companion documentary to this album to experience the full effect and energy of the music and the era. This album is a classic and an absolute must for all Duran Duran fans as well as for 80's afficionados.

1-0 out of 5 stars A CRAPPY LIVE ALBUM
DONT BUY THIS HORRIBLE ALBUM.IT IS'NT LIVE AT ALL.IT IS MADE IN THE STUDIO WITH SPECTATOR VOICES ADDED ON TO THE MUSIC.ZERO STARS.GET FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE FROM PETER FRAMPTON INSTEAD.

5-0 out of 5 stars The way a live album should be DONE!
In 1984, England's beloved fab five released a live album that would forever change the way we listen to recorded concerts."Arena" is a revolutionary CD that features timeless performances of hits like "Planet Earth," "New Religion," and "Save a Prayer."Plus, we get the studio song "Wild Boys" produced by Nile Rodgers!!You NEED to get this album to believe the experience. It will blow your mind.Simon, Nick, Andy, Roger, and John are geniuses!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This IS Flipper.
"Blow'n Chunks"(the original, nine-song cassette on ROIR) was my introduction to the disturbing, amusical rumble of Flipper. I wore that tape out and then came across a copy of their debut, "Generic"...only to be sorely disappointed. In the studio, Flipper were a little too manicured, a little too controlled. Live, they were downright murderous!
4-0 out of 5 stars Four stars 'cause it's Flipper...
Outside of that, the others have pretty much nailed it about the quality of this release. So why give it 4 stars? It's Flipper. What's Flipper?Well, when I was much, much younger, I won tickets to go see Flipper off KSJS (San Jose State's radio station) for knowing that FESTUS is the deputy to Marshall Dillon on Gunsmoke. The fact that *THAT* kind of trivia question served as my ticket to go see Flipper live should tell you what you need to know.If it doesn't, you'll never get it and you should just stick to buying Olivia Newton John records.

1-0 out of 5 stars Flipper Rules OK But THIS SUCKS
FLIPPER Rules, OK?But this CD SUCKS."Generic" Their masterpiece is out of print.Roir markets this album as an assortment of their greatest hits...it is not. This CD has been hands down my biggest disappointment in music EVER.These live versions completely ruin the songs.I've been a Flipper fan since I heard "Ha Ha Ha" on AT's "Let them eat Jelly Beans".This album is the worst.Tell you what...for your money you would be better off buying the Melvin's Singles...they do an awesome cover of Flippers "Way of the World"...They also do "Sacrifice" on the Melvin's record. Will someone please reissue "Generic" and PLEASE do not re-mix it.It was fine the way it was. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Music from another time
Feel Good Now.The very name of the album is a command, and that's exactly what the Swans do.When the Swans storm the stage in all their raw, gothic glory, they don't just play music; they command the music, harnessing a vast arsenal of pure guitar energy and oppressively dense rhythms to force the audience into deaf submission.Sounding like a hellish amalgamation of Joy Division and Flipper, The Swans exhume lost sounds from another time that are truly primordial and earth shattering in their overwhelmingly mundane, militaristic rage. The music itself transcends any possible categorization, taking on a life of its own as it breathes and writhes suspended above the heads of the aghast audience. Culling feelings of hatred, anger, despair, and angst from the depths of the planet, Feel Good Now is the larger than life manifestation of all of our darkest emotions and most vile desires put on display before us.However, while the pure fury of the album inevitably leads to music that contains unparalleled violence, the heightened emotional potency of the album also gives it an equally beautiful and serene element of release that shows anger as an integral, vital emotion that should be harnessed, not suppressed.Anger is perhaps the only word strong enough and encompassing enough to fully describe the sound that is The Swans because to refer to this music as nothing more than music would be ignorant; Feel Good Now is pure emotion.Like their obvious predecessors, the legendary MC5, a live album is simply the only way to contain their immense sound and Feel Good Now perfectly captures the Swans at the height of their powers making an already lengthy album of 75 minutes feel like nearly 3 hours of intense pummeling feedback. The Swans sound is timeless and their unique culmination of pre-modern forces paint them as one of the most profound and powerful groups to emerge in the last century.Like I said before, The Swans don't just play music, they breathe and radiate it, and when Micheal Gira roars "God is Mine" in his best Tom Waits growl, you believe him.

5-0 out of 5 stars SWANS at their best
These days when I hear about all the countless supposedly "dark" and "intense" nu-metal bands, I listen to Feel Good Now and just laugh. Swans were brutal, bludgeoning, pummeling,uncompromising....and somehow beautiful at the same time. Most of all, they were REAL.This album is a prime example of Swans in all their glory, and makes more modern bands like (scoff) Linkin Park and (gag) Staind sound about as dark and intense as N'Sync or Jessica Simpson.

4-0 out of 5 stars More great live tracks from the Jam
This is a terrific addition to the Jam catalogue. Featuring 24 tracks recorded between 1979-1982 this is a great companion to Dig The New Breed (no songs appear on both records so I advise any fans to pick up both albums). The Jam were truly an exceptional live group and any fan will love this cd.

5-0 out of 5 stars Natalie Merchant "Rare On Air"
Natalie Merchant sings like an angel and this album is so cool
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
I bought this collection some ten years ago, and it has aged very, very well. The performances are great, and there's a real cohesion in them in terms of production.Whoever produced the CD really loves music, and must have made many mix tapes in his/her life, because it has the ebb and flow of a really excellent mix tape, with shifting moods and styles.I enjoy quite a bit of it, but the highlights for me are Lucinda Williams' cover of a Nick Drake song, the David Wilcox song, and the Peter Himmelman song, which also features an *amazing*, beautiful, lyrical guitar solo coming straight from the heart. In fact, "Always in Disguise" is really my favorite song overall from this collection.BUY IT TODAY!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A benchmark for live to radio compilations
This compilation is, at the time of writing, the best part of ten years old. And, in my humble opinion, it has never been bettered. Production quality is first rate, performances are almost flawless and the mix of music is spot on. You and yours can't fail to be sucked in by this one. John Cale's first poemblending seemlessly into Tori Amos doing 'Silent all these years',Beck's 'Mexico' is hilarious and wry even after all this time, The Modern's just don't want to end and you won't want them to, Lindsay Buckingham comes up with a magnificent arrangement for an old Fleetwood Mac tune (since copied badly by The Dixie Chicks) and a just wonderful ode to Chet Baker to finish. This is a CD that makes much of modern chill out laughable and shows what can be acheived by a group of people who really love music. It is a primer for the rest of the Rare on Air series and a great place to begin. Grab this while it is still in print. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best CD of 2004 - What it means to be Live!
This is clearly the best CD of 2004 if not the best of the decade. The production and sound for a live CD is incredible - clear, clean, and captivating. But to love this CD like I do, you have to appreciate piano (Gene Taylor) and background vocals (The Valvanes and The Medallions) -- all together. What The Blasters provide by themselves is incredible (Phil Alvin's singing and Dave Alvin's guitar alone would be worth the price of admission), but who they have accompying them is extraordinary. I cannot wait to receive the DVD of this concert because the CD makes it sound like a blast. Most of their classics are here (Marie, Marie; American Music; and Border Radio), an all-time (Joe Turner) classics (Flip, Flop, and Fly), and some incredible sounding "lesser classics" (Don`t You Lie To Me, So Long Baby Goodbye, and Have Mercy Baby). In the old horror classics they use to put a mirror near one's mouth to see if one were alive and breathing, now all you need to do is put this CD on and check if their feet are tapping. Try it on yourself, since you are alive, you will also want to dance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exellent come back cd, recorded in Santa Ana, CA
I love local bands from the most beautiful place on earth Orange County! This is one of OC's best rockabilly bands, and they sound as good if not better then they ever have, an extra added bonus is hearing Billy Boy Arnold's duet with them, his voice is so "rockabilly 1950's", and of course he really was a recording artist from that period, and hasn't lost a thing. This concert sounds like it could have been recorded in 1955, I mean this music sounds like the stuff from Sun Records!A great fun set of lively rockabilly and occasional jump blues, by a super tight swingin' band, recorded at the famed Galexy theatere in Santa Ana!

4-0 out of 5 stars The Blasters are back!
A blistering live set, recorded in the Santa Ana, California's Galaxy Theatre, in the band's old Southern California stomping grounds... Phil Alvin spits out his lyrics like he wants to set the mic on fire, while Dave whips through some dazzling guitar licks... These guys may be old geezers, but they sure haven't mellowed out! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars BEETHOVEN WAS DEAF : majestic, raw, and fun
a storm of a show! Morrissey and band sound tight and firing on all cylinders this night in Paris. the songs are energetic and the setlist absolutely is amazing! riding the wave of success from the awesome Your Arsenal, it seemed (at the time) that Moz could do no wrong. a real live document worthy of purchase from even a casual Morrissey fan...but please, if yoiu haven't got them already, purchase Your Arsenal, Vauxhall And I, Kill Uncle, Ringleader...oh hell, get them all!

5-0 out of 5 stars In Moz We Trust!
I feel like this is truely one of Morrissey's essential recordings (certainly of his solo carreer). I think it stands out among some of the Mozzers other live recording in terms of the amount of control exersized by Morrissey and his outstanding supporting band. Yet still it has all of the live earmarks, including the charming banter and emotional flare, that we so cherish. The more i listen to this album the more endearing it becomes to me and the more I have grown to prefer these live tracks to the studio ones.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Talent - Live!
Most people who are good in the studio, do not measure up when it comes to live performances. This is not true of Morrissey - who is good in both settings. He has a talent for supplying infinite charms in the moment - and on demand - making him a figure of grand preportions - almost a jazz singer's approach. Indeed, he is as spontaneous and in control of his voice as was Frank Sinatra. He has something Frank never had, however, a profound ability in producing intelligent imagineative lyrics - no one writes lyrics like Morrissey - he is a poet - like his idol Oscar Wilde.

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome cd
this was just an impulse buy, i saw it on sale for $6 and recognized a few of the bands, so i bought it. it is great. i'll definatly try to go to the warped tour this year. but shouldnt this carry a 'parental adivsory' sticker? the f-word is spaced out over both discs, but especially in the casualties' "made in nyc", they say the f-word at least 20 times. its an awesome song though, its a tribute to the ramones.

4-0 out of 5 stars I Should Have Been There
I got this at a yard sale because I was interested in the genre of music. The genre of this album is really more than I expected, though. I was expecting a lot of punk songs that sounded the same. But what it really is is a lot of different genres mixed into one thing called alternative. There are all kinds of music on this. There are 52 songs by 52 different artists. There were a couple songs that weren't great and I don't think I would have enjoyed live, but there were a lot of songs that really catchy. There are a lot of small name bands on this various artists mix, but there are also some big names like Yellowcard and Story of the Year. Altogether, I thought this was a good CD and definitely worth my time. I also think that any punk, metal or just plain rock fan should posess it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Insane punk compilation
This is probablly the best Warped tour album yet. Most of the bands are true punk and are incredible. My favorites are Lagwagon,Authority zero, and Avenged sevenfold. This compilation host some of the best punk groups and their best songs. For $7 by it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bloody Awesome Sounds!!
This is easily the best Billy Idol CD to date.
5-0 out of 5 stars An Album That Will Leave You Crying More, More, More!
Billy Idol is without a doubt one of the finest artists of our time, and also is very underrated. But this 2001 performance at the legendary House Of Blues for the VH1 show "Storytellers" is a great way to bring Idol back into the spotlight.
5-0 out of 5 stars It's like the old songs are new all over again!
Billy Idol is truly an enigmatic rock star. He was, arguably, the driving force behind Generation X, a late 70's punk band. He saw the wave coming (new wave) and got on it in the U.S. with his MTV good looks and bad boy style and dynamite delivery. Idol knew how to make good music, but he was an even better at marketing himself. He made sure he surrounded himself with excellent people (Steve Stevens). He kept up his style and his image and it served him well. Unfortunately, as the 90's came about, Billy seems to have begun to believe his own press and he started spiraling down a drug addicted path that saw him become creatively deprived and his career dried up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Steve is in the groove here
His songs here shoot from the heart and can be oh so related to. His political stancing is done in fine form through song and some dialogue with the audience. The album is chock full of good stuff to listen, it also sounds good in the process.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Window In Time
If you've been fortunate enough to see/hear live Steve Earle over the years, then you know how much his live sound has evolved. This disc presents a pretty good picture of where Steve and the Dukes were at in late '02 into early '03: telling it as they saw the truth to be and not pulling a single punch.Sure, there are loads of people that don't want to hear politics blended into music, so you'll find plenty of scathing reviews for this set.I find it difficult to be too critical of Earle's positions, because he presents them from a knowledgeable perspective and he is no doubt a patriot.

The joke's starting to look a little worn around the edges. It's facile to observe that the people who toss the phrase "family values" around don't have Limp Bizkit, Korn, Filter, or Primus in mind when they talk about wholesome entertainment. Well, duh. That said, this a solid collection for those who like the aforementioned bands and their allies, though just about all of this stuff is available in other versions. One highlight is Staind's heavy-duty "Mudshovel," though the best performances overall are from Limp Bizkit, which explains why they provide 4 of the 16 tracks on the album and no other act serves up more than 2. Tracks from Method Man and the Crystal Method weirdly break up the metal that dominates, and there's the obligatory acoustic bonus track, featuring Aaron Lewis of Staind and Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit. 4-0 out of 5 stars Falls a little short, but has some redeeming tracks...
All in all the concept behind 'Family Values' is a great one...get the most popular bands that parents would never want their children to listen to and throw them on one stage.KoRn started it, then Limp Bizkit carried it on, and then Staind, so on and so forth. This effort, fronted this time by Limp Bizkit, falls a little short of the first album (fronted by KoRn) and the third (fronted by Staind) but it does have some redeeming value.Lets take it one band at a time.
4-0 out of 5 stars Fans of nu-metal & alternative will enjoy this compilation...
I picked this CD up at my local music store several months back after seeing Staind and Filter were featured. I have since, listened to this album release and have quietly enjoyed the bands like Primus, Korn and Limp Bisqit who I rarely have heard of until now. The highlights for me were 'Mudshovel' by Staind and the acoustic 'Outside' sung in tandem by Aaron Lewis of Staind and Fred Durst of Limp Bisqit.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good bands, decent collection.
I would think this would appeal mostly to those who saw this tour, but it's still a good disc. I don't like it as much as the 1998 tour, but it's still good. "Limp Bizkit" dominates this collection, but there's still good songs from "Primus", "Staind", and "The Crystal Method". The live "Outside" is the bonus song here, and "Durst" also covers "I Would For You", which is an old "Jane's Addiction" song, though it's not near as great as the original. Overall this is good if you like the bands, otherwise it doesn't have much "Value". ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Primus Album
Energy. What a great vibe. The audience on this live album is having a time of their lives. The chemistry is just as good as it gets on this record. One reviewer called this a "challenging" listen. To find it "challenging" would mean to ignore the feeling - to ignore the feeling is to cease living. This album is so charged they'll just come and get you, you don't have to do a thing.

3-0 out of 5 stars A curio for the fans of this bass heavy band
Primus seems to split so many opinions.
3-0 out of 5 stars only primus album I like, I openly admit i'm NOT a primus fan
I'm not a primus fan obviously, or at least a "true" fan by any means. But, I do have a liking for this album.John the Fisherman is my favorite Song on this, and I only like the live version of it on this album.Didn't like it on the other album, frizzle fry I think it was, could be wrong.Vocals are so funny, the minute I turn on the album, I can't but laugh at claypool's vocals. They CAN'T be taken seriously, this band has a big joking manner. But a serious note about the band is the bass playing of Claypool which most people know him by.I give the other members credit too of course, they play good music.Overall, 3 stars for me.Not a primus fanatic. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars 260 Million...I can't hear you at all...
Scream In Blue takes its title from a mostly instrumental track atypical among the Oils canon, but the album as a whole is vintage in every sense.Dominated by tracks from 10,9,8... (their top early 80's album) and Diesel and Dust (their best from the latter part of the decade), SIB features improved versions of great songs, delivered with more verve than their comparatively sedate studio siblings."Star of Warburton" achieves a new vigor; "Sometime"s emerges as an all-out anthem; "Only The Strong" rocks as hard as anything in the band's catalogue.Even better, songs that originally targeted Australian issues convincingly resonate among other audiences.Peter Garrett slyly directs "Progress" at Americanism when delivered in New York, while a classic like "Beds Are Burning" remains quintessentially Australian.
5-0 out of 5 stars Midnight Oil: the best live band to exist?
Scream In Blue is worth any price. Anyone who has seen Midnight Oil in concert will tell you that the experience can be very itense. And while most live albums out there do not even come close to replicating a live setting, Scream In Blue remains very true to a Midnight Oil show.5-0 out of 5 stars Explosive!
I pretty much said it all in the title of this post. This is THE BEST live album I have ever heard.I first purchased it back in... well... my last year of elementary school. The cassette was purple! As if that couldn't be any cooler!Anyway... to this day, I can put that album (now a CD) on and still feel as excited as I did as a kid. There's more raw energy on that one CD than most bands could even dream of creating over an entire career.Honestly... it makes me want to move like Peter Garret himself... thrashing around more madly than I ever have at a punk or metal show. It's like an early greatest hits all captured live, so there's never a letdown!I know alot of people don't even like live recordings, but I'm sure this one could change anyones mind. And to think... before the end of this year (2004) we'll even have a live DVD with 2 complete Oils shows on it plus a bonus CD of one of those shows. The Oils might be done now, but this album will continue to destroy anyone elses attempt at a live album!Forever!Hopefully it'll teach a few people along the way as well... ... Editorial Review

Comprehensiveness isn't always a virtue, as this three-CD set proves. It gathers together everything David Bowie recorded for the BBC between the years referenced in its title, plus a third disc taken from a June 2000 London concert for the famed British radio broadcasting company. Head first to disc two, which focuses on Bowie's in-studio recreations of material from Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars More essential than you might think....
`Beeb' is a British affectation for the BBC, the state-run media which plans (or planned) all television and radio for Great Britain. Bowie was around when the BBC was implementing its 4-station radio broadcasting, and he became one of the first guests in early 1968. BBC rules were strange and archaic by American standards, insisting that pre-recorded music represent only a fraction of airtime, the point being that this would provide employment for professional musicians. So it was that David Bowie appeared with a crew of musicians to perform his songs live a number of times over a four-year period.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best of early bowie in one inspiring collections
David Bowie is indisputibally on of the most talented artists in music ever. His songwriting is always at a peak, and was always excellent in his early days, and that is proved on this fantastic collection from the BBC. All live, but you wouldn't know it because it's sounds as clear as his studio recordings. And how about those lyrics? Bowie is so inventive, and he's never gotten the due he's deserved. Look at the amount of work he's accomplished, and look how good he can still be; even better than most. He's amazing. One listen to this collection and you'll realize he's amazing too, i hope. If you're still in doubt listen to all of ziggy stardust, but trust me you'll love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars CHANGESBEEBOWIE
CD2 - The first CD could be a symphony of (flatus) and I'd still give this 5 stars for the nearly immaculate performances on the second disk. In particular, "Hang Onto Yourself" (track 3), "White Light/White Heat," and "Suffregette City" (featuring Mick Ronson making this totally hot kissing noise with his guitar)crackle with energy. It is truly a thrill to hear these old favorites in such a new (as such) and exciting light. Bowie and Co. burn down the BBC studios. Repeatedly. Any rock fan (but especially an old Bowie fan, of course) is likely to meltdown in ecstacy upon hearing this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
This concert was the most amazing concert I have ever attended. The CD captures the wonderful passion of PJ music and is a definite addition for any collector or fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome concert!
The is the 2nd bootleg i had purchased (first one being Jones Beach night #2) but not the 2nd i had heard, i had also heard Milan and Ljubljana (and want to buy those as well) but it is really excellent. It starts out with a rarely played Pink Floyd lyricless piece, goes into a standard version of Corduroy & Grievance--not anything exceptional--then, a nice rocker of Spin the black Circle. I don't like Dissident. Brain of J live is truly awesome, a great song made even better live. Animal is a good rocker too. Given to Fly is corny and overplayed--i skip it--Nothing as it seems a thoughtful piece. Even Flow is full of energy. Pilate is kind of a dumb song studio-wise but live, it actually sounds quite cool. Lukin is a brief and wonderful hard rocking piece. Light Years is pretty, so is Betterman. Leatherman is a little-played, addictive song, i really enjoyed it for the first time hearing it. The Not For You is awesome, so is Black, they close with indifference (not my favorite) then a real great version of Go, a sappy TYAAM, a headbangin' Evolution and SOLAT. I don't like crazy Mary. Small town is beautiful. Last Kiss is not a good song i skip it. RVM is bulletpacked and amazing, indifference the crowd claps along, Rokcin in the free world is truly a gem and 6 min long, very special treat.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is an awesome cd
I attended the concert where this cd was recorded and every time I listen to it, I can't help but think about that night. This is an awesome cd and I would recommend it to anyone who likes Pearl Jam or rock music for that matter. ... Read more
