5-0 out of 5 stars BTE--Most Under-Rated Band in America
This CD is an awesome, concert-like experience. If you can't see them in person, this is the next best thing.

5-0 out of 5 stars BTE rocks!
Live At The House Of Blues New Orleans is a great set from a great band!

5-0 out of 5 stars Never a disappointment!
I have been waiting for Ezra to release a live album, and I'm thrilled. I purchased the DVD and the CD and both are worth every penny. While no recording can entirely capture the "live show" experience this is a noble effort. I would recommend it to anyone Ezralites and newbies alike. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Police - 'Live' (A&M)4 1/2 stars
Apparently, there must be simply SO many 'new' releases put out at any given time, one obviously cannot keep track of EVERY one.As a result,I've only recently become aware of this live Police archive 2-CD title.Sound quality here could be a bit better, but it'll do.Disc one is from a 1979 live radio broadcast direct from the Orpheum Theater in Boston.I remember hearing this on a special late night radio show, don't believe that I taped it,or other wise,I wouldn't be so thrilled to finally land a copy of this disc.Better tunes are "So Lonely",the well written "Walking On The Moon","Message In A Bottle",their very first smash hit "Roxanne","Can't Stand Losing You" and "Born In The 50's".Disc two comes from a major gig in Atlanta in 1983 off their 'Synchronicity' tour. Most memorable cuts here are the awesome "Synchronicity II","De Do Do Do,De Da Da Da","Wrapped Around Your Finger",Sting's signature song "King Of Pain","Don't Stand So Close To Me" and "Every Breath You Take".A must-have for most Police fans.I was fortunate enough to catch The Police on the second leg of their 'Synchronicity' tour,as I never thought it would be their last.I've spoken with a couple of HUGE old school Police fans and they tell me they want NOTHING to do with this 2-CD release, that they're simply tired of seeing Sting out on solo tours and they feel somewhat betrayed that The Police will likely never reunite.Have to wonder how many others feel the same way.

1-0 out of 5 stars did't play
I tried it in a cd player dvd player computer came up blank
4-0 out of 5 stars A truly great band
I had the pleasure of seing the Police live four times, each time while they were touring a new album. The shows were incredible, mainly because Sting and the boys were born performers. They really thrived when in front of an audience, more so than when they were in the studio. Personally, I think they reached their peak when touring Zenyatta Mondatta. They had mastered their ska-rock style to perfection. Even though you knew "So Lonely" and "Can't Stand Losing You" were coming up, they were always fresh and different. These CDs give you early Police, touring the first two albums and pre-breakup Police touring their last album. I would be lying if I said they were equal CDs. The first CD is better, much more pure and honest. I am not going to blast the Police for selling out, even though they kind of did. However, the Atlanta concert was jammed full with bandwagon fans that owned exactly one Police album, Synchronicity. Sting tries to draw the loyal crowd responses that he was used to getting from core fans, but they were not there. The boys still put in a good show, but not as good as the Boston gig. To be honest, if you want to hear the greatest recorded Police concert, it was one done in Melbourne Australia in 1981 and recorded by an Aussie station. To this day it is one of the greatest concerts I have ever heard. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING live disc
I worship Smashing Pumpkins. I honestly think they are one of the greatest bands of the 90's, much less one of the greatest bands of all time. This live album by them contains tracks from siamese dream, gish, and a couple b-sides as well as a few studio interludes. the live tracks all differ from the studio versions in interesting ways and in general this album is incredible.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great!!!
This album is amazing, with the highest possible quality recording of the band at its live and creative peak. With great alternative and acoustic versions of their biggest hits alongside a varitety of fun, generally lighthearted original material. Some of it, especially the annoying "Pulseczar", can come off as filler, but it generally balances out quite well and shows the band's variety. The only thing better is the DVD of Vieuphoria, an even amazing documentary on one of rock's most underrated live bands.

5-0 out of 5 stars Do your homework critics!!
This CD is a re-release of the original Earphoria of which very few copies were made.So comparing it to the "Greatest Hits," as the media reviewer has, is about the dumbest thing possible. It was originally released in 1994 as the soundtrack to the VHS of vieuphoria. One last comment on the media reviewer's comments: the guy obviously hasn't listened to this album. The version of Disarm on this CD is distorted and faster compared to the slow acoustic version on Siamese Dream.Get a brain Kim.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I Was There
I was lucky enough to be at this, the greatest progressive super "group" concert of all time.(I even saw the cover being photographed looking through the glass doors.)
3-0 out of 5 stars That guitarist was--
--Mike Oldfield, not "Brian," and yes he was and still is a master. Check out his own albums for better compositions. I just can't quite get into Nico's "The End" but am gonna hang with her a bit more on her other stuff. Cale's earlier solo stuff works better than here (try PARIS 1919 for artsy). Eno & Cale teamed on WRONG WAY UP, one of the most irresistible art-pop albums of all. Ayers: You're better off getting THE BEST OF-- .

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you very much!
This is one of my favorite live recordings ever. John Cale sings a great version of Elvis Presley's Heart Break Hotel, Nico sings The End, Eno does a brief selection from Here Come the Warm Jets and it is all topped off by Kevin Ayers melancholy, unclassifiable pop tunes. Wonderful sound, stellar British progressive blues musicians and an eccentric lineup of cult stars at their artistic peaks. It's a one of a kind recording. I would suggest this CD to Nick Drake fans. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Hugely popular in their homeland of Ireland, the Frames top the charts and play to 30,000 people in Dublin. The aptly-titled live album is their fifth and the one they're hoping will connect in America. The quintet's sound draws upon such acts as the Clash (with whom they share a love of the anthemic) and the Pixies (with whom they share a quest for more oblique explorations), as well as on native traditions (albeit updated with a big wallop and galloping propulsion). Recorded before an enthusiastic audience, the band is clearly spurred on by the adoration, as well as a sense of community. The songs often feel like they're giving voice to their countrymen, celebrating a shared sense of justice, outrage, home, faith, and hope. One of the secrets to the band's dazzling and incendiary sound is the mix of full throttle guitar and soaring violin. Lead singer Glen Hansard builds heartfelt ruminations into his between song patter, and leads the band down many surprise avenues, with bits of Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" and Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" appearing out of their own numbers. 5-0 out of 5 stars Very little risk....
This is the first review I've ever been compelled to write. An Irish friend suggested The Frames to me based on my taste in music. I bought "Set List" on a whim, having only heard the song Fitzcarraldo. Sometimes live albums are best appreciated with prior knowlege of the music, but this album is so verstitle and impactful that I will waste no time aquiring the rest of their albums. Very charismatic with a huge style range. The lead singer is clearly a wonderful storyteller, both with lyrics and onstage. I haven't taken the CD out of the player since it when in, and have told everyone I know about it. I feel ill-prepared to rate the songs, or even discuss the styles, as I am very new to them. Still, its important for me to share my newfound musical love, in case there is a newbie weighing whether or not they should take a risk. DO IT!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best music
I saw The Frames at Irving Plaza in NYC in the Fall of 2005 and still get chills thinking about it.It was the best show I've been to in a long time.Anything by The Frames is worth a listen especially a live album. This cd is great!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best bands out there
Having spent almost a year in Ireland, I had heard of the Frames a bit, and a friend of mine made me a copy of Set List.I immediately fell in love with them.I also had the pleasure of seeing them at Oxegen, and in Boston. So I have seen them in their home country, and in mine. They put on a great show no matter where they are, and this album really shows their abilities off.Their sound is very together, and you can feel every word that Glen sings. The violin really makes their sound combined with Glen's voice. They do have a unique sound, but it is one worth listening to.I prefer their live sound to their recorded sound, it's more real and heartfelt. If you ever have the opportunity to see them, I highly reccomend them. And if not, Set List is a decent substitute. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good live recording
Yes,this is a very good live devo cd i definatley recommend this plus it has many many good songs on it.

5-0 out of 5 stars I don't even LIKE live CDs, BUT THIS ONE'S GOOD!
"Somewhere in Time" is really the clincher on this CD--addictive, even--, but if you've seen the spudboys in concert (and I have, three times!), this CD is the next best thing and may even give you goosebumps! (shiver) Better than their 1980 Live CD, fer sure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Duty Now for the Past
I am preparing to see Devo live this October, and while searching through their catalogue I saw this CD.I never knew this CD existed, and while I should be fair in mentioning that I don't actually have it, I WAS AT THIS SHOW!!This was the last time I saw DEVO, during my college days, and this show is/was still one of the best I've ever seen. First, they blew the audience away with an opening acoustic set - imagine DEVO in the yellow suits sitting on stools - that included some unpredictable numbers like "jocko homo."Second, they left and returned with the flower pots (okay "energy domes", and played an electrifying tour through most of their greatest songs.Remember, this was a time when DEVO was waning. Most of us original fans exited after "Shout" - it was just too, well, synthesized and without edge. But this show restored the faith, at least for their live performances.I'm looking forward to seeing them again after 16 years.Oh yeah, I still carry a scar on my right hand from taking a stage dive at this show and landing on some broken glass on the floor. Memories. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Super Dooper
This is without a doubt my favorite live record ever recorded.Every song is solid. The sound quality is great for a live recording. Most live recordings annoy me, but this one rocks. Great sound and great songs.I miss this band a lot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Live Album Ever
Of all the live albums I've heard, this is easily the best. The EQ'ing and performance are top notch. If you like Face To Face (or punk rock for that matter) you have to have this album.Consider it a "Best of Face To Face" album but even more spectacular due to the fact they're actually playing this live.My favorite Face To Face album and a top 10 favorite album of all time.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this album with all my heart.Ultralistenable HC
Ordinarily I don't write a review for items with over say, 5 reviews. But, not surprisingly, this record gets love it or hate it reviews. All hardcore punk rock enthusiasts love it (how can you not?) and all heaven's to Murgatroid alt post punk lovin' musical sweethearts (we could use other terms but maybe you get the idea?Sure we do) hate it because it is so intense and unrelenting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great stuff; even better REALLY live
If you're a Commander Cody fan and you have all the Cody/Airmen stuff you can find, then get over to the "K" aisle and start picking up on Bill Kirchen.
4-0 out of 5 stars The First Four Tracks Alone...
The first four tracks along are worth the price of admission. With Track 4, "Hot Rod Lincoln", you will understand why Bill Kirchen is known as a "Master of the Telecaster".It wasn't until my middle age that I began to understand the importance of "Live Music".Bill Kirchen is an actual *musician* who sounds as good on the road as he does in the studio, sometimes better. "Rockin' over China" and "The Finger" are good finishers for this set of excellent live music.
5-0 out of 5 stars top notch
A truly fine performance by a master. I enjoyed the songs, humor and variety. The portion where he imitates a couple dozen other guitar greats is worth the price alone. Sound quality of disc is very good. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Be carefull, it's NOT REALLY an extended versions collection.
Hmmm... this one was, first of all, not nicely marketed. The real title of this album, as released in the 80's, is ''Lou Reed Live''. Its content is no more than rests from the ''Rock & Roll Animal'' sessions, which despite of being his best-selling album is not EVEN a register of one of his best live performances. The first time I saw this item announced here, with no cover picture and the 'live' thing excluded from the title, I instantly bought it hoping that it was a compilation of extended versions and that I would, for instance, get the complete sax session of ''Walk On The Wild Side'' and other nice stuff for freakie fans. But this has not been the case, and due to the misleading title I got a 3rd unnecessary copy of ''Lou Reed Live''. If you really know what you're getting here (so-so Reed live performances), then go ahead and complete your collection. Otherwise go check ''Take No Prisoners'' for the raw, real acid Lou or ''Perfect Night live in London'', ''Animal Serenade'' or ''Lou reed live Italy'' for more anthological live performances.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best live albums ever.
The searing guitar work alone is worth the price. This CD is the necessary companion to Reed's "Rock 'n' Roll Animal."

5-0 out of 5 stars after intermission
I was pleased to hear about this album because Rock & Roll Animal is one of my favorite "live" albums of all time. If not one of my favorite of all time period! The musicians on that album are great, especially the bass player. My only complaint was that it didn't seem long enough. Then a friend told me he thought there was another album that contained the rest of the show. This was before I had internet access, so it was hard to find what I was searching for, espesially without a name for the album. I finally found it and the name said it all "Lou Reed Live" If your a big of a fan as I am of Rock & Roll Animal then you'll love this. It has all the songs that you might have imagined or wished were on Rock & Roll Animal, it was like coming back to the concert after a beer & bathroom break. As I said it has the same great musicians on it & Lou's singing couldn't be more emotional. The sound quality isn't up to todays standards but that's what I think gives it that great 70's "live" sound. The only thing that would make this album better is if they would package it as a 2 disc set. That would be a great introduction for any listener to Lou's genius. If your not a fan of live albums I'd suggest "Transformer & Berlin" for a great start. Both of those albums have songs represented here, as well as some of his work with The Velvet Underground. If you've purchased this c.d. grab your beer, take a seat & enjoy the show! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must for VU Fans
More raw and experimental than "69 Live." Better (and warmer) sound, to my ears, than Max's. Never mind the tape hiss and lo-fi--the music gets through. As others here have said, this is not the best place to begin listening to the Velvets, but if you already are a fan, you will love it. The sprawling stretches of "Sister Ray" and other extended versions of VU songs are a revelation. There is nothing like the shock of hearing a band you revere live for the first time. This set can bring you quite close to that experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars AND THE ANSWER FOR ALLTIME
IS THE Velvets, who went Underground "a thousand Years ago",resurfaced and are proof positive that being underground and the "Consequence" for returning is as enigmatic, pure, solid, like Stonehenge.Do not worry if this is your first Velvet Cd.You are now solidified into the master's of the Dark. Now my people, go buy this CD and find out why such a progressive group in the mid 60's are just as exhilirating, provocative and even so they remain such.Buy this Cd, like 3 cd's for $30.00 andforget about seeking out "The Man".There's alwys "Tomorrrow's parties!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Cest Genial Oui oui je acheter une cd de lan velvet underground pour noel
these cds are good and all and people should get them or download them (pirated or whatnot) the velvets were a very underrated band, (jacob ingerson stfu, you dont know music) but i recommend this to people who have listened to them beefore ,and are used to them. This album is live and i think peopel should listen to them at hi-fi studio recorded sound first but, hey if you want to dive right in and hear what the music and what they were live at their best get this album. The thing that i like best about them is the simplistic package design and, that these tapes actually exist, its amazing, if your going to complain about the sound quality, you should try and record a live show and preserve the the tapes for a quater of a century. the magic and the moments that happen a great and you get thrre disks of it so i think its pretty good. Also there are extensive liner notes in a booklet that are entertaining ... Read more

Pearl Jam's unprecedented documentation of their Europe 2000 tour hasdone more than offer their fans an affordable alternative to music pirates; iteffectively ensures their stature as one of rock's greatest live acts. Recordedbefore an unusually ecstatic audience at Milan's Fila Forum, the album finds theband playing off the crowd's good vibe with wild, sometimes antic abandon.Building from one of the tour's favored openers,Binaural's "Of the Girl," withthe crowd hanging on every word, the vibe grows as the crowd joins in on "SmallTown" and a number of others. The band seems unusually energetic, with MikeMcready repeatedly giving in to the temptation to make like a soaring guitargod. Eddie Vedder introduces a driving version of "MFC" fromYield by telling the crowd thathe wrote it in Italy after falling in love there. "But," he notes, "she had fourwheels and was called a Mini." A great feel-good show from a band once notoriousfor its dour shoe gazing--maybe it really is the dawn of a new millennium.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great performance
Milan is amazing. Brilliant. Pearl Jam rocks from the beginning untill the end of the show. Really great versions of RVM, Light years, Not for you and RITFW. When you decide to pick up a few of these bootlegs you definitely have to get this one. I loveMilan!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Crowd Favorite
One of the best loved shows in the European 2000 Tour series, this is also one of the longer performances.Pearl Jam is having a great time here, and it shows. The audience returns the favor by getting into the thick of things from the very beginning, singing along to practically every song. Their singing and cheers become so loud that they raise the distortion level, a problem throughout this series, to new, ear cracking heights. Still, it's easy to see why so many fans love this release. The band is happy, the crowd is in rapture, and the set list is outstanding. This show is also easily available if you know where to look, and you can't beat that!

4-0 out of 5 stars Momentum builds as the show goes on
Like a lot of the Euro shows, it takes awhile for the band to get truly comfortable here- despite the proficiency and great vocals on Corduroy and God's Dice, Mike McCready doesn't sound as into it as he usually does. By 'Given to Fly', he wakes up a bit, and provides a riff unlike any I've heard on the other bootlegs. It's not the best performance of the song, but it's unique. For most of the rest of the main set, the entire band is on- Rival and Thin Air, Binaural rarities, are stunning and perfectly executed. The crowd participation on "Small Town", "Present Tense", and "Daughter" makes each of those among the best versions I've heard. Ed flubs a few songs in the encore- Betterman and Insignificance- but makes up for it with Sleight of Hand, Garden, and rocking performances of the acronym songs, RVM, SoLaT, and RitFW. This show just keeps getting better, which is a tall order for a show that clocks in at almost 2 and a half hours. Definitely a highlight of the Euro tour. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Primus Album
Energy. What a great vibe. The audience on this live album is having a time of their lives. The chemistry is just as good as it gets on this record. One reviewer called this a "challenging" listen. To find it "challenging" would mean to ignore the feeling - to ignore the feeling is to cease living. This album is so charged they'll just come and get you, you don't have to do a thing.

3-0 out of 5 stars A curio for the fans of this bass heavy band
Primus seems to split so many opinions.
3-0 out of 5 stars only primus album I like, I openly admit i'm NOT a primus fan
I'm not a primus fan obviously, or at least a "true" fan by any means. But, I do have a liking for this album.John the Fisherman is my favorite Song on this, and I only like the live version of it on this album.Didn't like it on the other album, frizzle fry I think it was, could be wrong.Vocals are so funny, the minute I turn on the album, I can't but laugh at claypool's vocals. They CAN'T be taken seriously, this band has a big joking manner. But a serious note about the band is the bass playing of Claypool which most people know him by.I give the other members credit too of course, they play good music.Overall, 3 stars for me.Not a primus fanatic. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the 3 or 4 Dwight Yoakam albums you need to own
Even if you have his greatest hits, the Reprise box set, or albums containing the studio versions of these songs, this live album is STILL a MUST. The energy and musicianship, not mention Dwight's own incomparable vocals, are fantatsic. And there are great live versions of songs you can't find anywhere else, like Rocky Road Blues, Fast As You, Long White Cadillac, Two Doors Down and more. Whether you're just now catching on to the genius and talent of DY's music, or are already a fan with lots of his albums, this is one you won't regret owning. It'd certainly one of my top 3 favorites.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Debbil Himself Stirring up the Rabble
Now, if this doesn't stop you, nothing -will-... unless you're truly the adventurous sort. I am -not- a country music fan. I'm not even a Dwight -fan- (unless I'm seated in front of a stage he is -on- or a movie he is -in-.) I admit to being a rocker, and a -progressive rocker- at that.
2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing ...

5-0 out of 5 stars Intimate
Close your eyes.On the left of the stage sits Elvis Costello, geeky glasses, geeky smile, a microphone in his hand.On the right, Bill Frisell sits on the edge of a little Fender amp, rocking gently, picking his guitar in only the way he can.5-0 out of 5 stars 2for2
live at the meltdown is truely one amazing piece of music. the pairing of elvis and bill was nothng short of genuis!! whether they are doing costello's "lovefield" or a mingus song "wierd nightmare" or the odd pair of writes (cait o'riordan/mac manus)"baby plays around" this CD offers nothing but talent from beginning to end. and i for one love elvis's voice

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting combination!!
Costello and Frisell happen to be two of my favorite artists.I had no idea that this album existed--I happened to stumble upon it one day while browsing through Amazon.com.I think they compliment each other pretty well.I particularly like the rendition of 'Baby Plays Around,' a gem from Costello's 'Spike' album that unfortunately often gets overlooked. The album has excellent sound quality.Fans of Costello and/or Frisell will dig this album. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Really quite good
I agree with all of the positive views expressed by those that wrote before me. But my personal favourite is Stigmata Martyr. Nice creeping bassline. If you're in two minds about buying this album let me solve the problem for you: buy it. Simple, and I've saved you valuable time, that you can now use to listen to one of the best live albums out there. In fact, just buy all of the Bauhaus albums. Then check' em out in concert. They've still got it, and the bass will shake you from the top of your dyed black hair to the tips of your pointy black boots.

5-0 out of 5 stars Give me more than 5 stars.
The greatest live rock album ever made.
5-0 out of 5 stars BAD PRODUCTION ? NO WAY !!!!!!
EVERYTHING STATED BY THE PREVIOUS REVIEWERS IS TRUE EXCEPT MAYBE THE BAD SOUND COMPLAINTS.I HAVE THE ORIGINAL EDITION BRITISH VINYL RECORD AND THE SOUND IS GREAT !!!!!! BUT SOMETIMES THE TRANSFER....OR THE DIGITAL MASTERING....OR THE ORIGNAL MASTER TAPES FAIL...IT'S NOT UNHEARD OF.ANYWAY THIS IS NOT TO BE ABSENT FROM ANY TRUE BAUHAUS'FAN COLLECTION,AND IT'S WAY BETTER THAN THE FINAL CONCERT BY LIGHTYEARS !!!!!!!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Lets set the records straight.
I was very dissapointed to read all these BAD reviews about the Warped Tour '05 Compilation. Allow me to set the record straight. The Offspring are one of the best bands of all times, and finally recorded a track especially for this cd. Already making this one better than the previous coupies. To add, we have some of the best punk bands of the past couple decades making a come back, and a couple great new bands. To explain this, We have MXPX, who have been around forever, but justifying their taste of punk to a more mature level that anyone can appreciate. The Dropkick Murphys, quite possible the best irish punk band of all times, with their most irish influenced song they have ever released. Plain White T's have always been a thrash emo sound. Except minus the thrash a little, an put in more of a indie sound. All changes made for a changing society. As for new day bands, Fall out Boy, they won't let any of their pop/punk fans down with the catchy "Saturday". From First to Last, let's just take hardcore and turn it into a roller coaster, this song is very unpredictable, and the sound is rad. The very only thing I can say was malfunctioned in the making of this album was the Gogol Bordello song. WE all know what "Track Skip" is. Enjoy the rest of the 49 songs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Compilation
This has to be one of my favorite warped tour comps. All the songs are great except the Offspring song "Beheaded".
2-0 out of 5 stars punk guy on cover, with one, maybe two punk bands of CD
yea, hmm, what can i say. justin sane, singer/guitarist from Anti-Flag on the front cover. and i think that may be george from the casulaties on the back cover. two punk bands, two good punk bands, and whats on the CD?...EMO. why advertise an emo cd with two punk people on the front and back cover? can you get any more controversial? i have to admit i do like some of the bands on the CD, good songs, good bands. i like it back in the day when there actually was punk bands on a CD that advertised punk people on the covers. if was justin sane, i'd be so ashamed to have my face on the cover of this CD. ever since last year, this CD, no tour, has gone down the drain, more and more crappier bands, and more and more controversy. whoever made this tour/CD is only looking for money and thats all he cares about, he doesn't care about the music. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Live Album I Own!!
I can not say much about this album except that it is pure genius. Every song on this album has tension, buildup, and a connection between a band and an audience that is rarely seen. I recommend this to all James fans, and especially to those who have not heard James. This CD is a great way to see how great this band was. James Lasts!

5-0 out of 5 stars LONNNNNG!!! Time FAN.
I currently don't own this CD but I intend to remedy that real soon. However I feel qualified to rate it because I have been a James fan since 1989 when I first heard "Ya Ho" and was intrigued by the bands mix of folk and pop rock. This is far too simple of a description for this wonderful band, as over the years they have done many different styles while still remaining James. For examples of their diverse songs you should hear tracks from "Strip-Mining" "Laid" "Wah Wah" and "Whiplash", as each album has very different songs for James while still maintaing some tracks that sound like JAMES.
5-0 out of 5 stars Pop doesn't get much better than this.
Think of them as U2 without the ego. Instead of the popular kid at school who was always visible and outspoken, James was more like the unassuming quiet guy you'd see every day and barely notice. But down-to-earth as they were, this group could write a mean hook and a joyful soaring chorus with the best of them. Combine that with some intelligent lyrics and a staying power underneath the catchiness, and you've got one of the most modest but fascinating pop catalogues out there. (Even with several hits, they'll always seem like an under-the-radar treasure to me. I'm sure I'm not the only one.) This set can't help seeming like a memento - farewell shows tend to do that - but as a live album it's also top-notch. The band puts everything they've got into a heartfelt performance, and a few small warts only make it that much more honest & personal.
