4-0 out of 5 stars Sometimes good sometimes great...
but never bad.Buy it just to play loud and feel like you're not really a complete sell-out (even though you are).

5-0 out of 5 stars Great CD
I loved Rage Against the Machine before this album, but this album made them my favorite band ever.It blew me away right from the start with "bulls on parade".The intro to that song works perfectly with the bass that would later start it off. This album might have been the worst thing that has happened to Rage.Because after listening to all those songs live, it made their studio versions sound quieter and not as energetic and fun.Especially songs like "born of a broken man" and "know your enemy".Most of the songs were nailed perfectly like "killing in the name", "calm like a bomb", and "testify".I think that is just a tribute to the band and shows how talented they are.Zack is very explosive and i love how he changes his singing styles. I could just feel all of his emotion in "FREEDOM!"
5-0 out of 5 stars (4.5 stars) Not a Greatest Hits album--better!
A couple of years ago, I was beginning to wonder if Rage Against the Machine were ever going to release a Greatest Hits album. After all, they were a very popular and influential and innovative group, and I'm sure Zach de la Rocha misses the income (no matter how much he is against money/greed/wealth).

5-0 out of 5 stars it's really lovely
This LP in it's original Double-album form was one my favorites of the era (the early seventies being a little sparse and sometimes unoriginal), but when the CD's came out, they split the thing into 2 separate discs. So this one has lots of dreamy, drug induced pop ("pale blue eyes', "I'll be your Mirror') , and some atmospherics ('Ocean')as well as the classics ("Heroin, White Light/White Heat').
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing.
Basically, if you're into the vu, you'll be into them live. There's almost no other way of looking at it. Their live performances are the most innate I've ever heard. So, if you're having some sort of dilemma regarding which live albums to spend your hard earned currency on, here's a suggestion: 1969: The Velvet Underground Live Vol.'s 1 & 2, Live at MKC, and the Quine Tapes. Those are the best live performances I've heard from the band. My personal favorite is the 1969: The VU Live Volume 1, but it's all personal preference.
5-0 out of 5 stars No collection is complete without it
The version of "Ocean" on this album is mind-blowing.You have to buy the CDs just for that. The rest of the Vol. 2 CD is excellent, as is Vol. 1, but that recording of "Ocean"...oh, it's impossible to do any justice to it here. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars keep on rockin...
i remember when pearl jam played state college in 93[?]with the red hot chili peppers. grunge exploded, and pearl jam was leading the way. eddy and the band rocked; it was raw and mad and wonderful.
5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty darn good
I've listened to many many many Pearl Jam concerts and this one is great. Though I'm not a big fan of Eddie's voice that night (though I am a big fan almost any other night), there are many memorable rarities such as "Release" and "Leaving Here".
3-0 out of 5 stars Just keeps going and going and going...
Ok, so I'm not the world's greatest Pearl Jam fan, but their records do spend a decent amount of time in my CD player.I got this CD because I had never heard them live, and kept hearing that any live recording was more than worth it.This one got strong reviews, had an enormous set list, so seemed like a good deal.

5-0 out of 5 stars It is as good as they say.
From the first song, this album explodes. I'm not a live album fan either, but this one is an exception. As an old time fan I also like the very nice blend of both old and new songs , both fast and slow songs. It is very well done. Too bad every album cannot be as good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!
Being just about the biggest NIN fan in the area that I live in, I own both the DVD AND the CD version of And All That Could've Been. As I said in my review for the DVD, Trent's songs are a lot better performed lie. Terrible Lie has a lot more energy live than it did on Pretty Hate Machine (don't get me wrong, the original is great, but the live version is even better), as do Sin and Head Like A Hole. There's just something about how raw and powerful Trent's voice is that makes NIN's concert's spectacular. The audience doesn't drown out the music, which is always good to know; and they know when to keep quiet during softer and more melodic songs like The Great Below, The Mark Has Been Made, The Frail, The Day The World Went Away, and Hurt. Trent also extends a few of the songs, like Sin, March of the Pigs, Starf***ers Inc, and more. He also adds a few extra words in songs, like in The Wretched where Trent chants "there is a place... in the back of my mind... where I used to try... try" during the interlude with the jumpy keyboard.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ignore Show
SHOW is just a cash-in on the pop hits that have been played too many times. PARIS is a fantastic live CD that shows The Cure to be brave enough to release dark songs that are much less well-known. I'm especially pleased with the inclusion of "Dressing Up" from THE TOP. Always a nice song, it's even better live, and no one seems to have ever heard of it, which is a shame.
5-0 out of 5 stars This along with Show makes for a fine live experience
I had Show for years and really liked it but kept reading reviews that talked about the superiority of Paris.I ordered a used copy from amazon and found the reviews to be true.Show is still highly recommended but if you're a big fan of the group you'll also want to get Paris.

4-0 out of 5 stars a forgotten album that needs a wider audience
Poor Graham Parker. His timing was bad and this excellent album never got it's full acclaim. This was hist first album that attracted attention in the U.S. he was very inaccurately grouped in with the New Wave movement. When that petered out, he seemingly fell by the wayside along with all the other skinny tie groups. The problem was this was reallya singer/songwriter/rocker. When he asserted his true identity, people viewed him as a former new waver shifting styles. I saw him open for a number of rock groups and he was booed off the stage. It is a shame b/c Graham Parker has a vast, rich body of work where he should have a better reputation as an accomplished artist. "squeezing out the sparks" ,I think, is his best work.
5-0 out of 5 stars You Can't Be Too Strong
To XraySpex: the song "You Can't Be Too Strong" is not anti-abortion. Listen to it again. If you knew anything at all about Graham Parker, you would know he is the furthest thing from a religious fundamendalist that you can get. The song doesn't take a stand one way or the other. It's simply *about* an abortion, and is likely a true story.
5-0 out of 5 stars Live Sparks from cyberspace! How an email friend & I met Graham Parker
I bought the vinyl LP back went in came out in the late '70s (yep, I was still in the 8th. grade!) and to this day still drag it out and play it from front to end.I guess I can say that was one of the best things I ever bought with my allowance $$, LOL. Although it was a shame Graham Parker never received as much attention in the US compared to other artists who were of the "angry young men" school of rock, Squeezing Out Sparks was a great calling card to introduce his music to other people--so much so that at times I felt I could have collected some royalties myself for turning others on to Graham Parker! Fast forwarding to 1999: I got wired to the Net at home then quickly fell into a message board community of old school punk and new wave affectionados. The first person I was emailing on a daily basis was a fellow GP fan from Germany who noticed all the posts I wrote about Squeezing Out Sparks, also in his 30's at the time, who needed someone to help him better understand what most of the album's lyrics meant due to his limited English. One particular track I patiently explained to him on more than one occasion was "You can't Be Too Strong", that poignant anti-abortion song; I guess the angry, yet emotionally empty feelings Graham Parker used in his that song sangwith much passion really confused him along with most of the phrasing that trying to graspe such a powerful song as a non-English speaker, and non British English to boot, was really overwhelming for him. We kept in touch for several months and at one point after finding Graham Parker's own website, my German friend went to look at it himself, sent an email to GP which Graham had personally answered!! =) My friend mentioned how Graham was pleased to have been emailed by a German fan, then GP being a big football player himself, the two of them talked about football teams then Graham had made a standing offer to play a little football with my fellow German GP fan should my friend ever visit England. Having heard him tell me about this conversation with our favorite singer almost make *me* feel like I had met "the man himself", too! Sometimes the Internet can be a wonderful thing! =) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Real entertainers
I got this after I heard 'Are A Drag' and figured that it couldn't be for real. Well, I'm sure that it is. These guys are great. I turned a lot of people onto them that wouldn't even get into punk but know these songs and enjoy what they do with them. The quality of the recording is pretty amazing. It might be lame to say, but it's probably one of the best live recordings that I've come across. Their remakes of tunes are just great and you can tell that they are pretty serious about their love for the music that they do. I didn't cringe like one reviewer did at Stairway to Heaven, it was as short as it needed to be without being blasphemous. The singing is really great on this and the things that they say between the songs are quite humorous. One wish? They recorded their break (which was kind of odd but not unlike them probably) so that it ate up time on the disc. I would've like more songs, they were just sounding great!! If you like music because it entertains you, this is for you. I am a pro musician and usually analyze music. I don't to this; it's meant to be for enjoying and nothing else.

5-0 out of 5 stars ???
I know they cover a lot of songs and all that, but am i the only one who thinks they should be shot for their rendetion of stairway to heaven?

5-0 out of 5 stars one of the 80s finest musical hours
When I saw the Gang of Four perform live in the early 80s, bassist Dave Allen, a brilliant musician, was, sadly, gone, though in his place was a fairly decent replacement, Sara Lee. The Go4 were true post-punk progressives, who sought to elevate women rock musicians as the equals of men, at a time when this was still a novel concept. In fact, the Gang of Four's progressivism was partly the result of the earthshaking consequences of 1970s British punk, of which this band was definitely a part (their first recording - the Damaged Goods EP - was released in 1978, still the punk heyday). Their progressivism was also a result of their university education in philosophy, and specifically, in the neo-marxist critical theory of scholars like Walter Benjamin, Theodor Adorno, Max Horkheimer, Herbert Marcuse, and Antonio Gramsci, all of whose work informs the Gang's lyrical content and sensibilities. But these were also smart young men, loaded with talent, living in a world in which they felt alienated. Seeing them live was great! They rocked, and they connected with the audience, a large gathering of mostly Americans who were deeply in to them. And lead singer John King certainly had the funky white guy thing going on, as he was constantly in motion on stage, as guitarist Andy Gill riffed away, fearlessly and energetically.
5-0 out of 5 stars Remastered! (not)
One of my all time favorite albums. I have listened to the newly remastered version of "Entertainment" side by side with my "Infinite Zero" version from the early 90's. Oooohhhhh! ...now there is so much more midrange... the treble doesn't bleed into white noise nearly as much... its louder too. So I'm ordering this one now and looking forward to the same improvement.
5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful
Had the band never recorded a suitable follow-up to "Entertainment", they'd probably have left us wondering forever (as with Captain Beefheart) "How great would they have sounded if recorded with a fuller, more life-like sound rather than the dry clipped one they favored (on Entertainment)".Here we get a full sound, lots of bass, lots of everything.

5-0 out of 5 stars just jumped into my top 10
i've always craved Pearl Jam music. Well, when 10 first came out, honestly it didn't impress me that much. Maybe all the frat boys at UTexas blaring it at keggers put a bad taste in my mouth.
5-0 out of 5 stars Pearl Jam Live - Nothing Better Man!
Pearl Jam headed by the front man 'Ed Vedder' delivers a stunningly magical CD that covers the old songs with the newer sounds of Pearl Jam. I have yet to see PJ live in concert but hearing them on a LIVE CD is the next best thing. 'On Two Legs' is supposedly Pearl Jam's first LIVE CD coming out of the 1998 Tour around the US. This CD includes 17 songs includes the hits of 'Given To Fly', 'Daughter', 'Even Flow', 'Nothingman' and 'Black'. These songs are also great to listen to LIVE with audience participation and the ever clear deep resonant voice of Vedder. Other songs I enjoyed and many PJ fans should also enjoy are the songs 'Better Man', 'Go' and 'Off He Goes'.
4-0 out of 5 stars A good live record, but lacks the energy of the unedited shows.
Known by its fans for its stunning live performances and having flooded the market with seemingly endless (146 as of now) live albums, selecting a live Pearl Jam record can be a bit of a chore."Live on Two Legs" has two distinctions the other live work doesn't-- it's the only live record from the 1998 tour and its a compilation of shows rather than a single show.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better live than in the studio
These two discs rank right up there with the Heartbreakers' "Live at Max's Kansas City" as some of the best live music ever recorded. The band is loose, John Cale is gone, and the VU sound comfortable being a rock and roll band. The flawed sound just makes it all the more poignant.I agree that some of these versions are better than the originals. One difference from the original LP is the version of "Heroin".The original is on volume 2. I still like the one on volume 2 better, but this one is different enough to be interesting, a little more urgent. These might be the albums I'd take on a desert island.

5-0 out of 5 stars If your Looking for a "Live" performance of the The Velvet Underground....
Apparently, the story goes, that one of "Maureen Tucker's" (Velvet's Drummer), biggest regrets, in her tenure with the band, was that there is a distinct lack of quality `Live' performances of the band. And a quick peruse through the bands discography points to this being the case, with only a small handful of releases available and most largely lacking a suitably reprehensivedocumentation, of the band at a key point in their existence, as one of the most progressive and influential Proto-Punk, Experimental-Rock, and druggy Rock & Roll acts to ever take to the stage. And so, this is...far and away, the best `Live' Document of the bands performances, with each member giving the songs here a grittier and more dramatic/ aggressive feel.Arguably what this means is that the tracks that most will only be familiar with via the studio albums, will be surprised at how different some of these slightly re-jigged `Live' performances are.Whether it's the hypnotically slow and detached drone of "Sweet Jane", or the beautifully dramatic ebb and flow of "What Goes on", lend each of these songs seem to have a more sleazy and precarious edge, that although the studio versions were certainly not lacking in, these versions feel more visceral, and truly representative of the band.Lou Reed, in particular...growls/sneers/scowls...throughout the more up-tempo numbers, and maintains a sombre/bittersweet/poignant tone whenever the songs necessitate are slow ballad-style.With his guitar work throughout being particularly impressive. But this isn't to take anything away from the rest of the band, whom give as committed a performance as Reed. With Sterling Morrison guitar work, chiming perfectly with Reed's to make for a truly thrilling rhythm section , and Doug Yule's contributions on bass, just about holding the whole thing together, like some dangerously out of control vehicle, with the wheels about to fall off.
5-0 out of 5 stars it made me forget I hate texas.
Great album, "Waiting for my man" and "Lisa Says" are my favorite songs on this but "Heroin and "Rock n' Roll" are pretty close, all the songs are classics and played perfectly. I think my favorite thing about this is the beggining when they talk about the cowboys/eagles game. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Correction on A. Stuheit "andreaabs" review
I think he/she missed out on the track "Freedom" and thus confused it with "Intro(Black Steel In The Hour of Chaos)". That song is NOT"Freedom". The track that A. Stuheit was talking about where Zack shouts out "anger is gift", THAT is "Freedom".

"Live And Rare" is an import, so it's pricier and harder to come by than Rage's 2003 live album "Live At The Olympic Auditorium." But I still prefer this C.D. to that one.

In 2000 Oasis wisely dispensed with theatrics and concentrated on being the world's greatest stadium-sized pub-rock band. And so, with just three mammoth video walls in tow, they toured the world. Big as the video screens were, however, the band's straight-ahead rock and Liam Gallagher's mouth were even bigger, and contributed much to the drama, tension, and entertainment of the tour behind Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars "Hello, Manchester!!!"
It was July 2000, Oasis played Wembley Stadium in London for two nights in a row. The heat was on, the expectations were high, and the thousands of fans that crammed the famous soccor field were "mad for it!" Everything was going good; Oasis were and still are the biggest band in England with a timeless influence on most of the bands coming out of America and Europe today, and they were to take the stage by storm, but there was one too many problems: Liam had just broken up with his then wife actress Patsi Kensit, was seriously drunk, and Noel wasn't talking to him. The effects of all of the above are evident on this recording.
2-0 out of 5 stars Well done (to the crowd)
Ive always been a big fan of oasis but they really let themselves down here. This was an opportunity to perform a memorable, energetic and musical show, well it was certainly memorable.
4-0 out of 5 stars Lay off the cigarettes, Liam
Instrumentally, Oasis is still a tight band, and Noel's vioce still sounds good, (his cover version of Neil Young's "Hey Hey My My" is a highlight) but damn Liam really sounds like he just woke up after a rough night. They rush their way through "Wonderwall" like they're bored with it,and their version of Champagne Supernova also sounds weak voiced. Now some times the ragged effect does work, versions of "Stand by Me", "Live Forever" and "Cigarettes and Alcohol" are still pretty rousing.

5-0 out of 5 stars better than the studio versions
on the CD, i prefer the live versions to the studio versions. they have much more energy and excitement. the DVD is great too. it has all of their biggest hits plus some fan-favorite album tracks. i love how they get the audience involved. my only complaint is that there are a few times when mike and chester say some cuss words that get edited out, and there isnt an un-edited version available. for some reason linkin park wont have bad words in their music, or in this case, dvd's. also, the dvd is sorely lacking of any features, such as back-stage interviews or anything. its still a great CD/DVD combo though, and i highly recommend it to any LP fan.

3-0 out of 5 stars DVD was good, but CD songs mediocre
I thought getting a dvd of the Texas concert along with a cd of 12 songs was a good deal compared to buying one cd for around $15. The dvd met my expectations of seeing LP in a live concert. However, the songs chosen from the concert that were recorded onto the music cd were mediocre and lacking in song quality, especially when compared to the original songs recorded in the studio.
3-0 out of 5 stars Almost Like A greatest Hits Album!
I use to like this band. That was before I got into metal. I don't really listen to any rapcore anymore but LP did have some good songs. In fact, this live album has most of their best songs on it, it's just missing one or two I think. If you want to get the best of Linkin Park, then this set is for you. ... Read more

Editorial Review

The Clash were the only first-generation punk band capable of (or perhaps interested in) tailoring their up-from-the-gutter firepower to suit arena-size audiences. Here, at last--a decade and a half after their demise--is proof of their substantial stage skills. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
This is an awesome album! Best songs: London Calling, I Fought The Law, Career Opportunities, Train In Vain, and Rudy Won't Fail. Still, only bad part is the lead singer's voice cracks a couple times and sometimes you can't hear the guitars very good. Still awesome.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Most Important Albums Ever Produced
This disc will always serve as proof when people like myself that grew up during the 1980s make the statement that the Clash was the greatest rock band ever. This disc has several of their many great songs recorded live and larger than life. The versions of "Capital Radio" and "Whiteman in Hammersmith Palais" are not to be believed. However, what is so incredible about this album is that all of the songs are so incredible. The sound quality is excellent and the playlist is first rate. I say the Clash is the greatest band ever, if you disagree, listen to this album and get back to me.

4-0 out of 5 stars please, sir, may I have some more?
We can quibble over the track selection and varying sound quality forever, but the one indisputable failure of this disc is that Sony failed to fill it. Why would they do such a thing?

4-0 out of 5 stars better than expected
It took me a few years to finally buy this album, even though I am a big Built to Spill fan. The reason was simple, most of the songs were from an album I didn't particularly like when it came out (Perfect From Now On) and only a few were from my favorite two (There's nothing Wrong with Love & Keep It Like A Secret).
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Live Album Since "Band Of Gypsys"
Sorry, overserious music critics, that's the truth. This is a guitar player's wet dream, a sonic masterpiece. The sound is crisp and clean, and the interplay between the left- and right-channeled guitars is amazing. Song selection and sequencing is perfect.
5-0 out of 5 stars A guitar hero celebrates his craft!
Doug Martsch is a true guitar hero. While he operates out of the mainstream, he is an accomplished and powerful player, and most "classic" rock fans would enjoy this if given a chance. The songwriting is excellent, as always, and the live setting really makes the sound even more powerful than in studio. Buy it for the people who just listen to the same songs over and over, and they'll be converted! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Intricate And Complex Work Of Artistic Genius
Where to begin with such a musical treat such as this? Describing how much I adore this nifty little arrangement is near impossible because my love for Bjork blinds it so much. It was a few days after Christmas in 2003 when I saw Bjork's debut album "Debut" for sale and bought it on the off-chance that I would like it. Little did I know that I was about to embark on the most profoundly amazing musical experience of my life. 2004 for me was Bjork. No one else. In the space of the year I have acquired pretty much her entire back catalogue on CD, and "Live Box" was a welcome addition to this last month.
