2-0 out of 5 stars I don't understand...
I wanted to hear Dashboard and instead I get a bunch of idiots singing instead? It doesn't seem much, but I wasted [...] on this cd. I should have bought new strings for my guitar. At least then I wouldn't have to listen to these idiots screaming the songs. I hate this and the DVD is even worse because then you have to see all these rich idiot kids playing extra sad for the cameras??? WTF Dashboard? MTV Sucks!

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste
Why did I pay money to hear kids yelling to the accoustic playing of Dashboard Confessional? If you're an old fan, you'll like it.But me being a new fan . . . this is a waste of money.I paid to hear Dashboard sing accoustic versions of their songs. Not kids.I felt like I was sitting at a campfire at Vacation Bible School. Stupid!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is by far Dashboard's best album
How could anyone give this cd a rating below 5 stars? This cd fully encaptures what it is like to be standing in front of Chris at one of his shows. The audiance sing-along makes this cd what it is. This is not only my favorite Dashboard cd, but it is my favorite cd of all time. There is not a week that goes by that I find myself not listening to this album.

5-0 out of 5 stars DOCUMENTO EXPLOSIVO E IRREPETIBLE!!!!
ESTA EDICION ,QUE GUARDA LAINCANDESCENTE ACTUACION DE MC5, DEBE SER UNO DE LOS TESTIMONIOS EN VIVO MAS CREIBLES DE TODA UNA EPOCA, MUY PARTICULAR, POR CIERTO... LA CRUDEZA, DESPROLIJIDAD Y CREDIBILIDAD DE ESTE SONIDO REALMENTE ERIZA LA PIEL...ES COMO HABER ESTADO AHI..EN ESE PRECISO INSTANTE DONDE DOS GUITARRAS DESQUICIADAS DESMORONAN CONVENCIONALISMOS QUE LAMENTABLEMENTE HOY SIGUEN PRESENTES... ES LA EXPLOSION DE UN VOLCAN QUE LUEGO SE APAGARIA PARA SIEMPRE, PERPETUANDONO ERUPCIONES SINO ERUPTOS QUE TOMARIAN LA FORMA DEL PUNK ROCK.....

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Hard Rock
This is insane for 1968. Comparable to Motorhead, and years ahead of it's time. It would definately give Lemmy a run for his money, and even many modern alternative artists such as Disturbed don't even compare to the ridiculous hardness of the MC5. Rock On!

5-0 out of 5 stars Pure genius -- but not punk!
The only reason I mention the fact that this is not punk -- I was there at the Electric Circus in Manchester, England in 1977 to see the Stranglers, the Damned, and many others -- is that it might put people off who would otherwise be amazed by this album. I once managed to convert a rabid Ted Nugent fan, for example. Punk is essentially speedball thrash (in a good way!), but this is akin to Led Zep and the Who (the MC5 supported them at a Toronto gig in 1968: sheer musical mayhem!). The MC5 were not a Nuggets-style band (and again, I have no problem with such bands), but heavily influenced by the likes of boundary-pushing jazz giants like John Coltrane and Sun Ra (in fact, there's a Sun Ra piece on this very album). The true "soul brothers" of this all-time classic are the Who's heaven-storming Young Vic live album (Who's Next deluxe edition), Live at Leeds, Albert Ayler's Live in Greenwich Village, and Peter Brotzmann's Machine Gun.

The band's goofy charm and sure-footed melodic sense is in full flower here, and the singalongs on "Brian Wilson" and "If I Had $1000000" are proof of the bond between band and audience. A hidden rap tribute to Ed Robertson's "Uncle Elwyn" is vintage Bill Cosby. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Being Naked Live Ain't Embarassing
Here is a live record containing a band that sounds as good live as they do in the studio. In the Spring of 1996, The Barenaked Ladies performed amazing rock sets at both the Rivera in Chicago and The Oympia in Montreal. With a group trained on the double bass, bass guitar, keyboards, accordian, acoustic guitars, electric guitars, drums, and vocals; it is pretty obvious that the Barenaked Ladies' music is very musical and unique. Their songs are a light rock, very poppish, but ear catching. Some of them are even given a Swing feel and beat. This album is a must have for any fan and for anyone who enjoys listening to music. Enhanced CD features include footage of skits and and live performances.
5-0 out of 5 stars Energized
So many live albums can be "flat".You can't go back and redo anything and if the crowd has an off night or isn't into your show, you can't go back to the studio and re-record cheers or fill in the "other" instrument (the audience).
5-0 out of 5 stars Why aren't they on the NOW CDs?
This is an incredible live album. I honestly don't think that I've ever heard anyone do a better job on a live album. Standout songs are Brian Wilson, When I Fall, Straw Hat And Old Dirty Hank, and If I Had A Million Dollars. How come these guys are never on the NOW CDs? They're more talented than Nelly or Snoop Dogg or Coldplay! ... Read more

The defining moment of 1985's Live Aid music festival was U2's pulsing, magical performance of "Bad," where Bono climbed down into the audience and danced with a young woman while millions watched, for almost 20 minutes. The album version of the song wasn't anywhere near that amazing, so the centerpiece of the four-song Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars '85 Memento Awakens Us
'Wide Awake in America' is a fine postcard from America. The title hearkens a theme that "In God's Country" U2 would elaborate on for 'The Joshua Tree'.Their live versions of "Bad" and "A Sort of Homecoming" are nice mementos that don't really add to their legacy. The latter rendition is breezy and relaxing without the tension and build-up of the original 'Unforgettable Fire' opening anthem. It is heartwarming, even if it lacks passion.Similarly, their live version of "Bad" is more engaging than firey or urgent. The originals are essential, however."Three Sunrises," which can now be found on the B-sides of their "limited" 1980-1990 collection, is exhiliarating.Sounding like a beautiful Native American hymn at the beginning, Edge's fine guitar interplay and the propulsiveness of the band meet the occasion with a passionate love song, sung for humanity."Love Comes Tumbling" is also a gem.Closing the album, it is a complexly layered, but quietly beautiful love song.

4-0 out of 5 stars No spoken words, just a scream
Wide Awake in America is an EP released after U2's career-defining appearance at 1985's Live Aid.It consists of live performances of "Bad" (NOT the version from Live Aid) and "A Sort of Homecoming," both from 1984's The Unforgettable Fire, as well as two outtakes from that album, "Love Comes Tumbling" and "The Three Sunrises."
4-0 out of 5 stars Wide Awake In America EP
This mini-album EP version contains live in concert reprises of 'Bad' and 'A Sort Of Homecoming'. However just as in previous reviews, I would like to warn that this is not the LIVE versions performed at LiveAid in 1985. But this 8 minute rendition of 'Bad' is great in it's own right. Song 3 'Three Sunrises' and song 4 'Love Comes Tumbling' are actual B-Sides of U2 finally released as fillers for this EP. 'Three Sunrises' was an experimental song that made the Irish group sound like wanna be 'Beatles'. 'Love Comes Tumbling', well this is a U2 sounding song through and through with a catchy tune and a enjoyable song to listen to.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Live Performance
I usually avoid 'live' albums whenever possible. The fans screaming and yelling much too long and entirely too loudly usually clouds my thoughts on the lyrics themselves. I could do without the added aggravation of the windy verbal intros on a couple of the tracks, too. Let's face it, once you've heard the witty remarks, they don't change any.
5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!
three doors down is awesome! everysong on here are awesome and the rendition of lynard skynards "that smell" is worth buying the cd for just that song, there all vey good songs. highly recommend to anyone. and its only 10 dollars, even more of a reason to buy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved it Live
This is a great sampling of 3 Doors Down. If you are a fan of the band then you will be impressed with this CD mainly because they take on some of the great songs from their first 2 releases "The Better Life" and "Away from the Sun." 3 Doors Down is an excellent live band, so it was great to see them finally produce a live disc. I almost didn't bother with this one. I loved Pete Yorn's studio albums, but played them to death. Another 2-disc set just seemed too "Been there, done that."
5-0 out of 5 stars Buy "musicfor..." first, then get this album!
I was turned onto Pete Yorn when "Life on a Chain" was handpicked on MTV2.That was enough for me to buy MUSICFORTHEMORNINGAFTER."Black," "June," and "On Your Side" are my favorites, and they really come alive on LFNJ.If you love "On Your Side," the intro will throw you a bit, but you'll fall in love with the song all over again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Get it for the live disc
Disc 1 of this compilation is a pretty good introduction to the band, though you have to wonder at some of the choices. Unsurprisingly, all five singles from "Sixteen Stone" are included, as are "The Science of Things"' three singles. I guess the compiler aren't fans of "Razorblade Suitcase," because it's represented by a paltry two songs even though the album spawned five singles. The poorly received remix album "Deconstructed" wins three slots-- space which would have been better used for album tracks like "Alien" or "Mindchanger," or the missing "Razorblade Suitcase" singles.
4-0 out of 5 stars If Only it was...
If this CD was packed with "Zen x 4" then we'd be set. a DVD & a cd companion of their singles. Better to call it a "singles colelction" rather than "hits" when we all know some of bushs best stuff wasnt released on radio or MTV. Still, this cd is badass & if you want "hits" you HAVE to order this because of course, Zen x 4 is a damn DVD that comes with a lousy additional cd. if i want hits, i want to hear the studio versions, not live (unless its relased as a live track) & i LISTEN more than I WATCH so of course this gets a better rating than zen x 4. just remember than THIS is a CD & Zen is a DVD. they fool you by putting zen in the cd section. go & import this if you have a Bush craving :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Such a great band...

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome Sublime live CD
this is a must have album for a Sublime fan... you can feel the vibe as if you were there in the concert.

5-0 out of 5 stars Live = Better
I wish I had a van. Vans are pretty cool. I mean...there's just so much room. And sure, they can't drag real well, but you don't drag in a van. You got subs, and room for gals. And if you're really classy you can get a couple of couches back there and a TV, and you can roll in it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Sublime........................................
Ok.I'm a big Sublime fan.I have All their cd's but the acoustic one, but anyway, that's not the point.I'm a sucker for live records, and this one is one of thier best. There are a lot of bootleg live albums on the net, and they have their moments, but the sound quality is hard to handle cuz alot of them suck. This is a very good cd.It shows sublime in their true form: "three guys and a dalmation playing reggae and punk songs at parties for beer" to quote, incorrectly, but close enough, the liner notes of this cd.If you are a Sublime fan, get it.Otherwise get 40 oz. To Freedom and s/t.This is a good mix of songs from 40 oz. and Robbin' the Hood.Speaking of which, it does Robbin the Hood justice because they do actual full band versions of the home-produced 4-track songs that were usually just Brad by himself.Highlights include "New Thrash", "Don't Push", "Let's Go Get Stoned", "Greatest Hit's", "Date Rape", "STP", "Pool Shark" (which is a mix of the original and acoustic versions), and an early version of "Caress Me Down".Good Luck. ... Editorial Review

Nevermind that Alanis Morissette's career spans back to her early teens and she has four prior CDs to her credit. It's just too early to go unplugged. Performances like this are better done in the privacy of one's acoustically appointed bathroom. An expressive, emotionally naked singer, Morissette bares a little too much on this outing. Recorded at New York's Brooklyn Academy of Music and produced solely by Morissette, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the carefully wrought songs and slices of her inner life, but there's little to be said about her shrill, thin delivery. Included is the never-before-released "No Pressure Over Cappuccino," which shedebuted on her Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great addition to the Collection
I bought this upon release, have played it a lot. It's not my favourite ALanis album, but I like Alanis' music a lot, and I must say that this live album is very nice indeed. The live versions of Head Over Feet, You Learn, I Was Hoping and That I Would Be Good are a joy for the ear, and especially You Oughta Know is wonderful on this album. As for the new songs, I especially enjoy Princess Familiar. The only two songs I do not enjoy as much here are Ironic and Uninvited. I love the originals, but the live versions lack "something". But in all, a great purchase, and a nice addition to her best of CD The Collection!

5-0 out of 5 stars Unplugged But Strong
That's not my first review about this album.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
As a 40-something man, I didn't expect to like this CD this much. What an original singer.Alanis has her own style and nobody can come close to copying it. She is brilliant, and I'm sure her searching lyrics speak to the hearts of millions. Some language may be offensive, she doesn't hold back on bluntness and direct messages. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Salival salvation
This CD/VHS set was a stop gap between 'Aenima' and 'Lateralus', and consists of a CD featuring live and rare tracks, as well as a video containing the bands ambitious, biazzare and at times grotesque music videos (now sadly out dated due to the release of videos from the 'Lateralus' album). This is an essential live document for Tool fans, for the versions of some of the songs featured here surpass the originals in places. The live version of 'Third Eye', the 13 minute epic from 'Aenima' is imbued with far more atmosphere than the original, has a different sample at the start (Timothy Leary on freedom of thought), and is simply required listening for fans. 'Pushit' is also revamped, with a slower, more thoughtful opening, lengthy bong-drum interlude and alternative lyrics. Elsewhere on the disc, we have 'Part of Me' live, which is the discs weak point, as one feels a better song could have been selected for inclusion. Also, the song is very little changed from the studip recording: hardly a new criticism of live material, but when viewed against the quality of the other material here it is a severe defect. A version of Led Zeppelin's 'No Quarter' surfaces finally here, which is thankful, as Tool do a fine job of making the classic song their own. A cover of 'You Lied' by Peach (Justin Chancellor's previous outfit) is very welcome, as is the hidden track towards the end of the album, which I would urge the listener to discover for themselves. Overall the disc is very strong.5-0 out of 5 stars AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH
Proves well beyond a shadow of a doubt that Tool is the greatest band in the history of the galaxy and the best that ever will be.This album demonstrates what it's like to be at a live show. The songs, no singles (no "Sober" for you fratboy wannabes, sorry) are absolutely stunning. The covers, especially "No Quarter" are difficult to describe in words.Go buy this and enhance your thinking (wink, wink).

5-0 out of 5 stars great collection
Salival is great because it allows you to listen to the band live as well as to look at the videos from aenima and undertow. The live songs on the CD are great, the live version of third eye really adds something new to the song. The cover of New Quarter is great. I think the video is awesome because I'm a big fan of the band's videos and having them on a tape reminds me of when I first heard tool in middle school. ... Read more

I didnt think Bowie could outdo the studio versions of Sweet Thing (it actually smells like a street)and Cracked Actor...but he actually has here. Incredible live recording....And the live version of Aladdin Sane is just stupendous...

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Record
Sure. The original release of this record wasn't the best it could have been but that was primarily because of technical reasons. Even the original liner notes acknowledge that there were overdubs.
3-0 out of 5 stars A must only for hardcore fans
The critics have always been hard on this album, and no one more so than David Bowie himself."That album!I've never played it! ... it must sound like a vampire's teeth coming down on you.And that picture on the cover ... like I've just stepped out of the grave... that's actually how I felt at the time."

Editorial Review

Even if Social Distortion have lost some their edge on more recent studio releases, this new live set is solid proof that the band's musical urgency is still intact. Seventeen years of classic Orange County, California, punk is represented over 17 tracks, as the band moves through speaker-rattling alternative-radio hits like "Bad Luck," "Let It Be Me," and "Ball & Chain." Singer Mike Ness's rockabilly roar is in fine form, as is the grinding rock energy his bandmates put out. Recorded over three nights at Los Angeles's historic Roxy nightclub, the disc serves as a great testament to one of America's finest punk bands. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars live
1 hour ago just saw Social Distortion Live in Atlanta.People yelled all the way through the concert.Whoops and yells spilling out on the street after the concert."Live" is the best word for this band when you see them in concert."Live" for both girls and guys. All seemed to linger after the concert.Total adrenalin. Why see the Rolling Stones live when you can see the real deal?
4-0 out of 5 stars Transition album for Mike Ness
It's during Ball and Chain, more than Ring of Fire, where you can FEEL the Johnny Cash influence on Mike.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Band in the USA
You can forget about the debate over who the best band in America is.It begins and ends with these guys.Although not the same Social D of the 80's and 90's, in part due to aging, retirments (Johnny, we need you back on bass man!) and largely to the tragic loss of Dennis Danell, these guys simply put on the greatest show, every time.I just saw them live in Poughkeepise NY (for like the 30th time since 1992), and that show was as powerful and rocking as that first time I saw them at the Sting in New Britain, CT (and like a young dum-ass, offered Mike and Dennis a beer in the parking lot before the show).

One disc of this deluxe two-disc set serves up 74 minutes (eight songs) of live material and outtakes; the other offers a DVD (in Surround 5.1) of Tool's four grotesquely artistic videos, plus the bonus clip, "Hush," from their 1992 Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tool live
There are millions of Tool bootlegs of their lives shows available to download, or purhcase from your underground record store for about #30 a piece, all with horrible quality. I actually heard one bootleg where Maynard was sick and couldn't really sing at all.
4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad but...
This set is awesome, yes, but it is limited addition and costs way too much. This is a prime example of why people share files on the internet.$200?No way, download it.

1-0 out of 5 stars For all those who gave a one star review...
It got such a positive response the first time, I thought I'd repost my love for Tool's insightful music. Keep that positivity flowing!

4-0 out of 5 stars "Live '88", "Steady On" Live
I love Shawn Colvin, her sound is fresh, creative and original. Live 88' does not disappoint on any of these counts. However, having listened to Steady on for many years, I thought Live 88' might be the raw version - it is not. This set is polished and very, very similar to the studio recording. If you are a collector or unfamiliar with the Steady On album, Live 88' is well worth having. If you are looking for something new from an old favorite, you will be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars An unadorned diamond
Most of these songs subsequently appeared on Steady On, but that album's production - too lush and sweet - runs counter to the meaning of these gems. Here we see the other side of the spectrum in terms of production - a woman singing great personal songs accompanied by just her own guitar. These are the best songs that Shawn Colvin ever wrote by far. You'd have to go back to Joni Mitchell in the 1960s before you found anything better than this for this genre of popular music.
5-0 out of 5 stars Emotion and Earthly Beauty
Having known Shawn Colvin just from her overplayed studio efforts, I was unprepared for this album, which not only approaches but achieves true greatness. She should NEVER return to the studio, given the capabilities on display here: a voice of lyrical sweetness and flawless intonation, perfectly integrated guitar playing of great imagination, and song-writing capabilities that are, if not exactly on the Joni Mitchell level (whose are?), impressively mature.Read more

Editorial Review

Gomez must think of themselves as a live juggernaut to release a double live album as their fifth release (and first for Dave Matthews’ ATO label). Recorded over the course of a three nights at a sold-out Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco in January 2005, the British six-piece plays a bluesy, psychedelic pop that’s breezily anthemic. And yeah, they are great live. Among the highlights is a spirited and spaced-out cover of one of Nick Drake’s best and least-covered songs, "Black Eyed Dog." Some of the songs are a bit lazy (the bloozy "Fill My Cup," the stoner anthem "Get Myself Arrested") but here’s a band that’s clearly awesome in their element. They might mix up genres, but unlike their Mercury Prize-winning debut, they rarely do so in unexpected ways. That is not a diss, either; this is very smartly done, shake-your-hips-and-make-out-with-the-cute-person-next-to-you party music. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Live album from one of the best bands of the new millenium
Into the new millennium and Gomez together with Muse, Mercury Rev, Elbow, Coldplay and The Flaming Lips (from "Soft Bulletin" (1999) onwards) were the bands that really excited me the most. (Previous to these recent years Kings X and Dream Theater "did it for me" in the 90's, Marillion were "my 80's" band together with Simple Minds, Big Country, Waterboys and U2. My 70's favorites were largely Genesis, Rush and Jethro Tull.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not for Gomez fans and faithful
This album disappoints. The album is poorly mastered and the songs do not do justice either to Gomez's sound in concert or to that on their albums.Gomez favorites, such as Free to Run or Make No Sound, lack the special licks that made them stand out.No violin, no intricate chord progression; the detail is missing, and the bass overwhelms the composition that you expect from Gomez.Overall, the album sounds flat and lifeless.

4-0 out of 5 stars Stellar Live Act
I've attended multiple Gomez shows and this 2 CD set definitely captures their energy.Three January 2005 concerts in San Francisco were condensed into one show-length setlist for this release.Luckily over half the songs come from the first two Gomez albums, classics that the band has failed to match."Here Comes The Breeze" and several others clearly eclipse their respective studio treatments. ...
