As good as Orgy's 1998 debut Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a real Orgy CD
This album was a huge disappointment. Orgy moves in more of a guitar-centric metal direction, away from their original synth rock style. While focusing on the harder style of this record, they seem to lose touch with their melodic, electronic rock roots found on Candyass (and Punk Statik Paranoia, afterward). The album as a whole just falls flat and sound like the numerous other "nu metal" stuff that's out there. Sure, there's a few good ones on here like "Fiction (Dreams in Digital)", "Eyes, Radio, Lies"; "Suckerface" and "Eva". But, overall I was very disappointed at the direction they started heading in with this record. Luckily for the few of us who feel this way, Punk Statik Paranoia heads back towards the same "death pop" feel that made us fall in love with them on their first CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Orgy!...
A great follow up to their CandyAss debut! The band has an original sound that's totally kickass! I dig bands with a sound that's all their own!...

3-0 out of 5 stars "She dreams..." of a better CD?
Kicking things off with an intro that could be in any sci-fi film, Orgy get ready to unleash 'Vaper Transmission', their sophmore effort."SUCKERFACE" does it's job, getting you hooked and ready for more.Jay Gordon has this very unique voice and it just fits this band perfectly."THE ODYSSEY" gets heavier, yet less convincing. Not a fan of song. The verse is crap and the chorus is even worse!"OPTICON" is one of the best Orgy songs ever, and the remixes (yes they made remixes for this CD as well and you need to buy those to FULLY appreciate this CD) are even better... "and the lies, lies!""FICTION" was the first single off the album and it shows where Orgy was when writting this album. It's much more melodic then anything off 'Candy@$$', and while thats not a bad thing, it's not what you'd expect from Orgy. The best part of the song is when Jay says "guilty by design she's nothing more than fiction" because it's the only part of the song with an edge."EVA" sounds like it could come off any rock album, nothing techno-glam-rock about it.It's just not Orgy."107" sounds like somthing off 'Candy@$$' and I like it alot.A very Manson sound to it, creepy and infectous.I'd skip through the next tracks until you hit "RE-CREATION" which is one kick@$$ song, even though it's really not 'Orgy' sounding, but the lyrics are tight and the whole song, from beat to vocals, are spot on."CHASING SIRENS" is another great songs. Not a huge fan of the chorus, a little too forced, but the beat and the verses are great...not to mention the bridge... "don't you find it strange, strange?"The last track here "WHERE'S GERALD" is a great way to close becasue it's close to the best song here. The only problem here is that they may open and close with the best, but everything in between is unfullfilling. The thing with Orgy is that, while they may never be able to turn out a PERFECT album, at least with Candy@$$ the songs that where good were SOOOOO good that the filer tracks were forgivable. Not the case here.I mean, "WHERE'S GERALD", "OPTICON" and "107" are awsome, and "RE-CREATION" and "SUCKERFACE" are good, but everything else is so mediocre that it takes away from the album as a whole.I wish I could give this album more than 3 stars, but I can't, because to me, it's really not worth it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Album
Whenever I listen to this album, i cant stop! orgy is one of my favorite bands.
5-0 out of 5 stars "Loving you is strange"
Okay, so maybe 5 stars is a bit much because there are a few skip over tracks (Dizzy is just plain awful) but the good ones, like "STITCHES" and "GENDER" are so good they make "DIZZY" a forgivable mess. After hearing "BLUE MONDAY" on the radio I ran out and bought the single...by the way, for the record, you need to by each single put out by this band because the remixes of these songs are at times even better than the originals...anyways so after buying the single I then ran out to buy the album because I couldn't get enough."STITCHES" is a standout and rightfully so...it's catchy and dark and just perfect techno-glam-rock... "DISSENTION" is one of the best songs ever...although Orgy has a problem with repeating offensive lyrics (I'm floored this doesn't wear a PA label) and so the repeating of "don't waste my f'ing time" was kinda lame...BUT IT'S FORGIVABLE!"FIEND" and "SOCIAL ENEMIES" are freaking killer tracks, awsome killer tracks and "REIVAL" feat. Jon of KoRn is a MUST LISTEN TO track!I'm a big fan of "FETISHA" as well and think that Jay Gordon has a great voice, perfect for this type of music.I wish this band would have stuck to their guns, but sadly their latest efforts have lacked all originality and quite frankly don't deliver...stick to Candy@$$...it's as good as it gets!

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars definitly!
I really love this album. I had first heard of orgy when they were on the family values tour with korn. after downloaded a few of their songs onto my comp. i decided to buy their album "candyass" i HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM. I listened to this album so much i think i wore it out.

This is a brilliant hybrid of electronic music and conventional guitar-heavy rock. The first three tracks in particular pound out the overall method: furious, punk-metal guitars over slamming, machinelike rhythms. This release exemplifies Al Jourgensen's and Paul Barker's skill at producing remarkably creative musical aggression. "You Know What You Are" and the album's title track are fist-in-the-air electro-anthems upon first listen. But upon closer scrutiny, the songs reveal themselves to be works of complex sonic architecture, with components drawn from a wide variety of sources. The same is also true with "Flashback," a techno-punk foray into loosely controlled fury. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good god....
There are just too many close minded morons on this site, who can never try something different.
5-0 out of 5 stars Unadulterated rage
30 seconds of a curious ticking noise, followed by a shriek so extremely distorted and chaotic as to destroy speakers at high volume.Such is the beginning of Ministry's "Land of Rape and Honey".It's funny imagining what fans of the synth pop and subdued electro records "With Sympathy and "Twitch" faces looked like when they pushed play for the first time.Whatever the reason, this album marks the abrupt transition into the Ministry we know and love today.
5-0 out of 5 stars The album's an experience.
And one that was ground-breaking as well. It must've been shocking for the people who actually did follow all of Ministry's stuff in the '80s. The classic synth-pop singles "Cold Life" and "Everyday is Halloween", the more dated stuff of "With Sympathy", and then with "Twitch," Ministry became a Front 242-type industrial group, with a lot of techno elements and movie sampling. Then there's "The Land of Rape and Honey" which is nothing like anything done before from Ministry. I've got the domestic cassette version that doesn't include "Hizzbollah" or "I Prefer", but it still shines in that version. "Stigmata" is one of the greatest songs ever made, Ministry's shining moment. The main riff is kinda like a buzzsaw, the drums rule, and Al's distinctive vocals give it a totally unique feel. I kept on repeating this track when I got the album.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
"Further Down the Spiral" is, without doubt, the best of the NIN re-mix albums. It has an internal coherence unmatched by the others.Rather than serve as just a collection of alternate versions of songs from "The Downward Spiral" (arguably NIN's greatest achievement, though I think "The Fragile" edges it out slightly), it is actually more like the second of a two CD set, with the original "Spiral" as the first volume.
5-0 out of 5 stars THE remix benchmark
I generally tend to avoid remix albums, for the same reasons everyone else does: they're too commercial, the remixes don't sound good, etc. Given the reputation Nine Inch Nails remixes have, though, I decided to give this one a shot.
4-0 out of 5 stars my first foray into dark music
back in 1995, I was used to hearing pop on the radio, classical, folk, jazz, new age, and indian music.i visited a friend and he let me listen to this album.i was completely blown away.i never heard hard edged industrial sounding music before.-mmmmm, pleased i was-this is not pure industrial, though.it is far better than being pigeon-holed into a specific genre.very dark, though.i consider it even better than the downward spiral, or broken, both of which i've had.although the self destruct 2 and final are somewhat repetitive, the art of self destruction is mind chillingly frightening, especially with headphones on.hurt is hurt, only acoustic and a bit shorter than the original.the eraser mixes are good for the most part -:polite is a bit too simplistic for me, but erased, over, out is a real mind trip, definitely belongs where it is on the album.the two aphex twin songs (at the heart of it all, and 2nd 1/2 of the beauty of being numb) are really wierd, in a cool way.piggy is a very different song than the original, more mixed up, from smooth jazz to grinding moans and bass, to fast furious rock, to industrial beats, and even dance hall, wierd, eh?Over all a very good album, especially if you add a few track onto it from the downward spiral and put them in the right place, which, if i may say so, works best with a minidisc player/recorder.4 1/2 stars actually. ... Filter's third album was inspired by a cross-country trip that imbued lead singer Rich Patrick with patriotism and appreciation for both the diversity and sense of freedom he found out on the road. While the recording is purported to be a celebration of that diversity, most of the record hasn't strayed much from the alt-metal template that Filter cut their teeth on back with their 1995 Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars About as dynamic as a coffee filter
I bought this CD as sort of a blind buy off Dell's Musicmatch service last year. I'd heard "Where Do We Go From Here" back when it was getting regular airplay, and parts of some songs sounded good, so I bought the whole CD. I can't say this was the best idea.
5-0 out of 5 stars Another Excellent Release from Filter
Again Filter puts out another record I can love. Many of the tracks on here are great. Again, as with the last there is much variety among the tracks going from soft to harder. This one does go a little back to their "Short Bus" roots and is, at times, a bit harder than the last one but all that does is help make it masterpiece that it is. It's a very good album. My favorite songs on this one have to be "You Walk Away", "Where Do We Go From Here", "So I Quit", and "The Missing". Here's my ratings for everything...
5-0 out of 5 stars Filter's most diverse work to date
Filter's third release sees the band continuing along their own tried and true path of heartfelt anthems balanced with a reasonable amount of experimentation. This effective formula continues to hold up well in the constantly evolving state of modern music.Although The Amalgamut's leading single, "Where Do We Go From Here", misfired on the music charts, the album as a whole is deeply catchy and uncompromising in its assorted flavors of musical expression.Filter can rock out one moment with songs like "So I Quit" and "Columind", and then become a mellow lounge act the next with "The Missing" and "God Damn Me".

5-0 out of 5 stars It is as good as they say.
From the first song, this album explodes. I'm not a live album fan either, but this one is an exception. As an old time fan I also like the very nice blend of both old and new songs , both fast and slow songs. It is very well done. Too bad every album cannot be as good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!
Being just about the biggest NIN fan in the area that I live in, I own both the DVD AND the CD version of And All That Could've Been. As I said in my review for the DVD, Trent's songs are a lot better performed lie. Terrible Lie has a lot more energy live than it did on Pretty Hate Machine (don't get me wrong, the original is great, but the live version is even better), as do Sin and Head Like A Hole. There's just something about how raw and powerful Trent's voice is that makes NIN's concert's spectacular. The audience doesn't drown out the music, which is always good to know; and they know when to keep quiet during softer and more melodic songs like The Great Below, The Mark Has Been Made, The Frail, The Day The World Went Away, and Hurt. Trent also extends a few of the songs, like Sin, March of the Pigs, Starf***ers Inc, and more. He also adds a few extra words in songs, like in The Wretched where Trent chants "there is a place... in the back of my mind... where I used to try... try" during the interlude with the jumpy keyboard.

I was fortunate enough to have encountered the Cruxshadows when they were playing in Atlanta, so my first experience with their music was first hand, and I was completely blown away. The energy level was through the roof.

Awesome that this talented band is getting the national recognition they deserve. This is a great dance track and bodes well for the upcoming album, Dreamcypher, in January. And, unlike many singles, this includes extra "b-side" songs like they used to do.Well worth the price!

Here's where the trippier directions of the electronic movement run smack into its Sturm-und-Drang industrial heritage. Trent Reznor's peak achievement through 1997 is reshaped five times over with profoundly weighty beats, dub textures, and trance soundscapes. The Orb's mix, which makes Reznor sound like he's drowning in his bathtub, is a bit silly, but otherwise this is fascinating stuff. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the perfect single
One of my personal favorite halos! I think some of the haters have their collective heads up their butts when they say this and fixed are too weird. Come on!! Get out of your parents dank and dingy basements and live!! Imitation is the greatest form of flattery.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hypnotic and enjoyable.
The Perfect Drug remixes are likely to throw off most un- and under-informed purchasers, who (as I have heard numerous times) were expecting something much more faithful the original version of the song that first appeared on the Lost Highway Soundtrack. That is not to say that the CD isn't good; far from it, it's quite innovative and fun to listen to. But like other NIN remixes (think Fixed or particular songs like "Piggy (Nothing Can Stop Me Now)"), The Perfect Drug goes far away from the original drum-and-bass recording of "The Perfect Drug" and opts for a much more rave-friendly, house electronica-inspired sound. Each track is drawn from a different artist, offering a diverse array of sounds that all tie in to a similar theme of the hypnotic electronic. I personally think that Meat Beat Manifesto's mix of the song is brilliant--perhaps the very best on the CD--but each track is worth several listens, although some take more patience than others depending on your stylistic preferences (I actually had the hardest time with the Nine Inch Nails version, but I've come to accept it).
1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money!
This cd is another dissapointment, just like Fixed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dunno why everyone's so down on this one
I think Gravity Kills gets unfairly dumped on just because they happened to get famous after NIN and Skinny Puppy.Quite frankly, I don't know what it is you wouldn't like about this CD if you liked all those other ones.OK, so it's not the most original thing on the planet, but so what? It's fun to listen to, and that's honestly all I ask.Maybe others demand some kind of earth-shattering experince, but I think that's just being unreasonable.
1-0 out of 5 stars Few FEW catchy parts, but mostly generic...
I'm finding it hard to believe that this received a 4.5 cumulative review. Now I generally love this kind of music;I am a huge NIN, Skinny Puppy, and somewhat of a KMFDM and Stabbing Westward fan. This is just so lifeless, and by-the-numbers though and you really can tell listening to it.Take the lyrics for "Guilty" for instance (one of the higher points of the album)."1 and 1 and 1 make three.1 and 1 why can't you see.Im killing you, you're killing me"Don't kill me if those aren't the exact lyrics but whatever, just generic uninteresting stuff. There's a reason you can buy this used for what was it....$1.94?OH and you can get there follow up (i think it was the follow up) "Perversion" for one cent!!Yes that's right one f**king cent. There's a little guilty pleasure to be found on here with (i didn't mean to do that) "Guilty" and "Enough" almost shows some promise. Everything else is predictable garbage with the same disco beat to all of it.I don't like being harsh on CDs I own, since I did buy the thing after all, and I did try to give it a fair chance. Some deserve it though.I'll sell you my copy for a quarter if you want it.
5-0 out of 5 stars their best work!

3-0 out of 5 stars Worth hearing, but it's nothing special
"Matter + Form" has it's moments, but it lacks the catchiness that I like in electro. Some of the songs stand out more than others. The tracks that don't stand out are basically boring and repetitive techno that lacks variety. The singer's voice is great, the programming is genuis at points, but they lack the cathy melodic chrouses that make electro so great. It's a cool album at first, but it's nothing that I can spin over and over again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very underrated
First off sure there is a few songs on this CD that is like others, but the 5 songs that i really like on this CD, are well worth giving this CD 5 stars for, among my favorite on this CD would have to be Arena, the melody is so emotional, then there's Endless Skies, abit too short but the melody is intensely emotive, and the lyrics are outstanding, so this is NOT generic EBM.

3-0 out of 5 stars Generic Euro-trance anyone?
I bought this album whilst browsing for new industrial music. I didn't know anything about the band so thought I'd give them a listen, and I really don't know what to say. Firstly, this just doesn't have the hard-edged attitude that a good industrial album would. A couple of the tracks are truly excellent, saving the album from a worse score, but the rest are simply non-descript space fillers as far as I'm concerned. Give me distorted vocals and screaming basslines but please, leave the horns and uplifting lightweight dance music where it belongs.

5-0 out of 5 stars KMFDM's Hau Ruck...crusade in the days of rage
A little recap of KMFDM. In my own words, they are perhaps the best-kept underground secret of the music world in the last 20 years. Their mixture of dance, pop, synth, metal guitars, industrial, and techno among other disciplines at their beck and call has helped their music stand the test of time, and also become anthemic in the modern times we live in. To read their lyrics or look at their colorful and bold album covers, you would think they were a group of rebels trapped in some virtual reality world that has George Orwell's "1984" as the backdrop, with the tankers from Tiananmen square closing in. Defiance against oppression, exposure of corruption, and voice of youth all come to mind when hear their music. Driving beats, parody filled quips from presidential speeches and dictators of the past, and electric synergy blend with a sonic boom that makes their most powerful songs something to behold. Just when you think they are formulaic, they slow it down with odd, circus type sounds or bouncy techno beats that blend in the female vocalists voice with conviction. It's more than a band, it's a unit. A team. And although the team has changed some via free agency over the years, it works. Unlike other bands that have played the swapping game, with KMFDM, the center DOES hold.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good stuff!!
I'm sick of all the reviews I'm reading telling people to pick up the older albums that have been out of print for so long...

yes, i removed my other review because i was still growing with my KMFDM tastes and i must say this is still one of the worst they have done. people really should start to understand that kmfdm are not a metal band. they may have gone metal-esque with albums like angst, wwIII, nihil, and this one, but really, that is like 4 albums out of 13.(14 if you count mdfmk)anyways. i would say hau ruck is about as good as don't blow your top. yeah, three of the first 5 songs(free your hate, new american century, and real thing)are amazing, but after that it drops off greatly. ruck zuck made some of the lesser songs better(amazing version of professional killer!), butm sadly this album gets little playtime by me. i would say picture attak without all the collaborators. i know some people hate tim skold, but i feel they needed him here...or at least raymond watts....a real gift would be en esch though!

5-0 out of 5 stars If your a H.I.M. fan then you have to buy this!
I don't really have to say much about this item, so I'll some it up in two words, H.I.M. ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars good stuff
lots of good remixes, and rareties. last in my collection, now i've got it all.

5-0 out of 5 stars the single collection essential
this "album" is essential to any true to worship H-I-M fan. it had most of, if not all, the singles up to DSBH. lots of rarities, lives, and unheard of's. my only complaint is that buying The Single Collection takes the fun out of ebaying and scouring online for each individual single, by hand. it takes the fun out of searching and digging, being a fan at heart. oh well, doesn't mean you can't get the 'version with 1 song only." ... 5-0 out of 5 stars INDUSTRIAL AND CONCEPT MASTERPIECE!
I have been a fan of NIN since 1990, and although they have a rather sparse collection of major works (4 LPs and 2 EPs), The Downward Spiral is by FAR the closest thing to perfection that any work of art can ever aspire to.From the opening words of "Mr. Self Destruct" to the final verse of "Hurt", one's mind and soul are taken for a non-stop emotional rollercoaster, albeit a downward one.Even today with sensibilities that have become so jaded, this album will make an impression on ANY enlightened, intelligent mind.

5-0 out of 5 stars Baloney is what I say
I played this very album in my computer many times.Just because your computer is garbage doesn't mean this album deserves one star.It is a foray into emotional turmoil that everyone but the most sheltered mommy's boy has gone through.

1-0 out of 5 stars This version will not operate on computers... No using with MP3!!
Will not run on my computer... love the content however I keep my music on my hard drive and was looking forward to working out with this album on my MP3.I will be demanding a refund!DO NOT BUY if you have a MP3 supported car stereo, if you plan on playing at your computer.. IT WILL NOT WORK DUE TO ILL CONCEIVED PIRACY PROTECTION!!!!!!!!!!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A KMFDM Classic
This is a great time to be a KMFDM fan. Not only are they releasing awesome new music in the form of Hau Ruck and the Ruck Zuck EP, they are releasing remastered versions of their classic back catalog. One thing I always disliked about old KMFDM was the sound level on their discs was always so long. Not anymore! Everything about this package is great. Old and new fans alike owe it to themselves to pick this up.

5-0 out of 5 stars thank you so much...FINALLY!
i would say that these albums are a much needed breath of life into the rotting corpse of classic, lost, and forgotten KMFDM awesomeness....everything is better about the new metropolis records releases than the wax trax/tvt releases. first, they are a TON cheaper, not to mention easier to find...you can buy a brand new one for less than you would spend on those used things...second, the sound is mega improved over the old ones...so now you can actually mix these UAIOE, DBYT, and WDYKD tracks in playlists with Attak, WWIII, and Hau Ruck without being frustrated at the scratchieness and volume differences...and finally, the packaging is much more attractive and informative....you get a nice little story about the album, some nice photos of the band, and lyrics finally!...and this album, UAIOE, informed me that the Jamaican band member Morgan Adjei, had died....sad, since i loved his voice and contribution to this amazing album and i know why this lineup was never present again.

This thrilling dance/techno/industrial OST shines with UB40's irresistible revamp of "Can't Help Falling In Love," Shaggy's "Oh Carolina" and an Enigma cut. --Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars sliver
The reason i'm giving it a 4 is because.Carlys song was not the same as it was on the movie. On the movie it had a lot more felling and saddness. The other trackes are really good.I love oh carolina my fish like to dance to it.Pretty good soundtrack except carlys song.

5-0 out of 5 stars A lost and found classic
I remember two things about the movie "Sliver": One--it was one of the stupidest movies I'd ever seen, and two--that the soundtrack was so good it was ALMOST worth watching the whole film just to listen to the tunes contained herein.
4-0 out of 5 stars 10 Year Old Soundtrack That Still Sizzles...
Released in '93 while the techno rage was still emerging or going strong some tracks will sound dated...Others still hold their own ground pretty good.UB-40's take on an Elvis classic was blasphemy to die-hard Elvis fans. Plus, the fact it was a video played to death on MTV didn't help matters. But, leave it to UB-40 to give it their special spin with their electronic reggae and horn treatment and make it their own (remember Red, Red Wine?!...the old Neil Diamond classic).Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty solid...
I'm not a huge Covenant fan, but after seeing them live just the other night, I'm a couple of notches closer. And now I feel the need to write a review.
5-0 out of 5 stars Stunning
Wow, I was amazed when I came here and saw all the negative reviews. While I appreciate everyone's entitled to their own opinion, I find it difficult to imagine how anyone who appreciates this style of music could consider it a sub 4 star album. Personally, I was blown away by it's clean synth lines and its beautiful sonic textures, I only own 2 other Covenant albums though I have other works by bands such as VNV, APB and Assemblage 23 and I feel compelled to say that is easily one of the, if not the, most beautiful album in the "genre" I have heard. ( Appreciating the folly of tying this in to any particular genre ).
