1-0 out of 5 stars Never imagined I wouldn't like a Bruford CD
As a big fan of Bruford (Earthworks, Crimson, Yes, UK, Bruford) and Levin (Crimson, Gabriel, Lennon, Liquid Tension Experiment, Bozzio Levin Stevens) I figured that a live double disc with this awesome rhythm section would be stellar... how wrong I was. This music is nothing like the ensembles mentioned above; it is very weird avant-garde improvisational jazz. Not that there is anything wrong with that... if you like Mingus, Dolphy, and Coleman there may be quite a bit to enjoy, and maybe I just can't appreciate this style of music.
4-0 out of 5 stars King Crimson Projekts meets Miles Davis
This is a 2 CD set taken from live club shows in 1998.The sound is very good and there is very little audience noise. It sounds like the audiences were very small, like the concerts were done in half filled clubs. The first disc is 48 minutes and the second disc is 58 minutes with the addition of a bonus track from the original release. The packaging is fairly cheap looking.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantstico
Fantstico. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars MC5 - 'Teen Age Lust' (Total Energy)
I've said it before and I'll surely say it again.I just love these unreleased archive concert performances released on CD.Specially when it's of a tour/gig that you wouldn't oridinarly expect. This ten track gem was recorded on January 1,1970 at the Civic Center in Saginaw,MI.It's sound quality is between very good to excellent.Several MC5 tresures included in the set, just sounds so much better when played live. Most notable cuts are the title track "Teen Age Lust","Looking At You","Human Being Lawnmower" and the foot-stomping "Black To Comm" which is squeezed into a medley with "Starship" and "Kick Out The Jams".Guitarist Fred Smith steps up to provide the vocals on "Shakin' Streets".This version kicks ass!!Nice cover.

4-0 out of 5 stars The best live release by the band since "Kick Out the Jams"
I'd probably rate the CD at 5 stars if the sound quality was a little better. The CD is in real stereo, but like many of the other live recordings that have surfaced and been released since the band broke up,the main problem is the balancing of the lead vocal with the instruments. On this recording it's sometimes difficult to hear the vocal at all.Thesound improves after awhile on some songs, but is always a little muddy andcompacted, and you can hear tape hiss, making me believe the original tapewas probably recorded at a low speed.Apart from the sound, theperformances are fantastic, more professional and tight than on Kick Outthe Jams, but not razor-sharp with no bass like on Back in the USA. Highlights would be the take on "Rama Lama Fa Fa Fa", "HumanBeing Lawnmower" (on which the vocal is nearly inaudible, unfortunately), and "It's A Man's World."The "Kick Out theJams" medley isn't that impressive at that end. It's hard to top thelive version at the Grande Ballroom. It's ironic that John Sinclairproduced this release since he had no involvement with the band at thisstage of their evolution, and some of his comments in the notes revealremaining bitterness. When MC5 played shows like this, they could blow anyother group away.Nobody who is a first-generation fan of this groupshould ever forget that at the time, this was the hardest-rocking group outthere and had a sound that was fresh and exciting, and they could outplayand outperform anyone. The "Kick Out the Jams" album exhibitsthe wild, raw and loud power of the MC5 and is the best of their original 3albums."Teenage Lust" reveals a more professional band, withjust as much power but with more depth and creativity.I keep this CD in afitting place, alongside their original 3 releases from Elektra andAtlantic.I'd recommend it for original fans of the group more than Iwould any of the other recent releases.

4-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant post KOTJ live 5
The sound isn't quite perfect, but it doesn't really matter, these boys go for it more than anyone else I've heard (perhaps bar the Stooges), but they still manage to play music that is actually quite challenging. The guitar playing by Kramer and Smith is superb throughout; they manage to convey so much energy it's unreal. A particular highlight is the great rendition of "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" by James Brown, where the two guitarists even manage to get in some delicate two-part harmony amidst the more out 'n out rocking moments on the album. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't Agree More
This was a unique band in so many ways. But what matters is the MUSIC, and the Buzzcocks were always about aching melodies for lyrics of unrequited love, guitars that ring and clang in gorgeous controlled disarray, and a rock solid rhythm section. Here you get it all plus the bonus of knowing it was just another gig for these lads ... this is one whole show and it ROCKS.The energy they had as a live band comes through LOUD and clear.5-0 out of 5 stars A great live document of a fantastic band
This is an essential purchase for any Buzzcocks fan. The sound quality is great & hearing the 'cocks playin a live environment adds an edge of rawness and energy that's missing from the studio sessions.5-0 out of 5 stars Best Live Buzzcocks
Amongst all the live and demo sets out there, it's easy to forget that the Buzzcocks only ever had about 40 fully developed songs to their credit. Entertaining Friends is proof that though the versions proliferate, thesongs remain the same. For much of the Buzzcocks oeuvre, live versions arein fact best, since they always got a tinny, bottomless mix out of thestudio. This live set is clearly their best - the mix is a bit muddy, butplayed at high volume, you don't notice, and it approximates their buzzsawattack quite accurately. The arrangements here are very similar to thestudio cuts, though Sixteen and Breakdown are clearly superior andeverything else sounds great. If you've only ever heard the studio albumsand always wondered why the Buzzcocks were considered punk, listen to thisand it will all make sense. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Album
The Velvet Crush rock a bit harder and faster on this live album. Is it because power pop giant Tommy Keene is sitting in on guitar ? Don't know. This is a fun album that catches a great power pop band playing smoking versions of some of their best songs. Great live sound production too -- no pro-tool enhancement, or computer corrected vocals. Buy this album. Pick up all of Tommy Keene's albums too (his live album is a great start). ... Read more

The first-ever authorized live album by the Dead Kennedys--following decades of bootlegs--is a DKs fan dream come true, as it contains absolutely scorching live versions of 14 of their best and most notorious songs. Whether live or in the studio, the DKs were always real players, easily some of the most accomplished musicians in American punk. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Honestly, they couldn't do any better?
I bought this album because I have never been lucky enough to get my hands on a bootleg.I wish I would have tried a lot harder to get one now. It's also difficult to resist the urge to buy a "new" DK album-especially when, like me, you were too young to get the opportunity in the 80's.The most notable songs are rather mediocre on this album, so my favorites on "Mutiny" would have to be "This Could Be Anywhere", "I Am the Owl" and "Riot."Jello always managed to keep the songs timeless with his live takes, and it's a shame the new singer can't at least do the so without the same level of creativity. It is obvious how this whole lawsuit/Manifesto/reunion thing came about when you look to the solo efforts of the other members too.I would especially recommend a good long look at Klaus' "The Light is Flickering",or Ray's "Sex is Sex" before anyone goes defending them.I saw Peligro at Social Chaos Tour in Lawrence,KS in 1999 and they were good live, but the albums didn't have the same resonance (plus all he talked about was being the drummer for DK, even wore a DK shirt-geez move on!Meanwhile he was suing his former frontman over money!Way to carry on the legacy!).This album, like any other DK release, is worth having-as long as you can sleep at night knowing who you're supporting. It's the same feeling you get drinking a Coke after you hear stuff about them assassinating union leaders in South America...diirrrty!

4-0 out of 5 stars Dead Kennedys - 'Mutiny On The Bay' (Manifesto) 4 1/2 stars
Full title:'Mutiny On The Bay-Dead Kennedys Live! From The San Francisco Bay Area'.Apparently, former vocalist Jello Biafra had lost a lengthy court battle to block the release of 'Mutiny...',the one of just two legit live Dead Kennedy archive performanes. This fourteen track CD was pulled from four(4)different live shows that took place in 1982 and 1986,which is 'strung' together as one.I LIKE that in a live release.Overall, just great body slammin' all American punk.Tunes that did it for me were "Holiday In Cambodia",the in-your-face "Moon Over Marin",the radical "MTV-Get Off The Air","Too Drunk To F**k" and "Hell Nation".Line-up:Biafra-vocals,East Bay Ray-guitar,Klaus Flouride-bass and D.H.Peligro-drums.A must-have for any and all true fans of 'angry/misguided' punk.Should appeal to fans Minor Threat,Black Flag,T.S.O.L.,Circle Jerks and The Germs.

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolute crap
Horrible. A cash-grab. A fecal-footprint on the amazing DK live-experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exreme Harshness
This CD contains several tracks that were recorded live in 1984 and 1985.It is definitely Laibach's harshest, noisiest, and most grating recording. As with many of their live recordings, the songs appear in a somewhat different form than what appears on the studio albums--some, in fact, are so different that they bear little resemblance from the studio versions apart from the titles and lyrics. The most unique aspect of this recording is the inclusion of atonal saxophone playing, which (as far as I know) cannot be found on any other Laibach recording. At extremely high volumes one can hear some fans chattering; this does not detract from the music, but it does become slightly annoying after a little while. The CD booklet contains excellent notes, two concert reviews (one from '84 and one from '85), some beautiful pictures, and a even a short glossary of persons and places mentioned in the notes.Highly recommended for anybody with even a passing interest in their earlier work--this CD does not contain techno, so it may not appeal to those who prefer their later work.Get this while there are still copies available--absolutely essential! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Bit of Bonzo on the Tongue
The four tracks here also appear on "The Complete BBC Recordings" (2002) which if you're a big Bonzo Dog fan (and who isn't) is the one to get obviously.Since both of these come from Strange Fruit Recording Company one wonders why this EP was released at all.Well it's dated 1987 so maybe it took five years to uncover the remaining tapes, or the market had to be proven, or licensing difficulties delayed the complete set, who the devil knows?
3-0 out of 5 stars For Bonzo fanatics only
With only four cuts on it, you don't need this EP unless you're an utter Bonzo Dog Band fanatic.Though it is interesting to hear their take on the "Monster Mash".(But whatever happened to the verse about the Transylvania Twist? It's not here.) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE classic Punk Collection
When I first heard this album back in 77 as an impressionable 15 year old ABBA fan, I ripped up my clothes, tore down my glam posters and stuck a safety pin through my nose.
2-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best?? Hardly...
This is indeed one of the WORST live Heartbreakers performances documented. This album is basically the full live soundtrack to the 1984 reunion concert movie, "Dead or Alive." While it sucks just as equally in the movie, at least you get a visual idea of a Heartbreakers show with the film (Not a good one, but an exciting "reunion" one nonetheless). If you want these songs, I would recommend the double disc "Street Trash," because at least with that, you get a disc of early Dolls demos to help cleanse the pallette.
5-0 out of 5 stars This is the Resurrection...
With the vast number of Johnny Thunders post-mortem releases, it's hard to know which are any good.Having picked up my fair share of them already, I can honestly say that "Live At The Lyceum" is one of the best 'live' Heartbreakers albums on the market.Read more

Dead Moon is an exception to the rule. For most bands, a live album is a toss-off, either a hastily assembled package released as a stopgap until the next studio project or something shoveled under management's door as a half-spirited contract fulfillment. For Dead Moon, a live album is like church on Christmas: an occasion for reverence and genuflection. Recorded somewhere in the Slovenia--in Europe Dead Moon are treated like living treasures--Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent live show on cd as well as in person
I just saw this band last night, and their energy on stage is amazing.Hard Wired is a great collection of their older songs, and definetely captures what makes them so good live.

2-0 out of 5 stars if you are buying cuz of Pearl Jam don't...
The Ramones meet AC/DC. A live record with the song covered by Pearl Jam. Not a great recording. The songs are good, would rather hear studio versions. If you are looking to buy cause of the Pearl Jam song.. don't waste your money. Otherwise they are a good band but the production is no good!

3-0 out of 5 stars get fried
i never really cared too much for The Kills' blend of dirty stripped down blues rock, but maybe because i wasn't listening close enough...because this little single is pretty great. i love the song "Fried My Little Brains" with it's bare drum sound and gritty guitar. and the whiskey-soaked vocals are smooth and seductive. the remaining two tracks are suitable b-sides, but you'll be coming back to the first song again and again. pretty cool.

4-0 out of 5 stars Folk Punk? Yes it's true.
Three quick, determined blasts of the kills signature folk-punk stylings. Composed of minimal drum patterns and various forms of concise yet roughly played guitar over seventies-esque vocals referencing a fast paced and gritty theif-like lifestyle. Running at under ten minutes, this single still possess enough energy and intrigue to keep the listner captivated. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Cramps-'Rockin'&Reelin' In Auckland,NZ'(Vengeance)
SMOKING!!I've been wanting to get a copy of 'Rockin'...' for a few months now.Was recorded at the Galaxy in Aukland,New Zealand on Aug.30,1986.Notice the recording has some fuzz and slight distortion intact, but maybe the producer of the disc meant for it to be that way.Really doesn't deter from the quality of the CD,at least I didn't think so.A lot of this live set draws from the band's 'Date With Elvis' album.Lux,Ivy&crew rip through a set of classic rambunctious psychobilly as ONLY they can.So many upbeat tracks to mention here, like "Hot Pearl Snatch","Sunglasses After Dark",an Elvis cover of "Heartbreak Hotel","Do The Clam" and "Can Your Pussy Do The Dog".The three bonus cuts tagged on are okay.Better than their 'Smell Of Female' CD(see my review of that disc).A must-have for any true Cramps fan.

4-0 out of 5 stars it helps if you've seen them live
OK, the sound quality on this isn't the best, but it ain't half bad either. Not quite as good as Smell of Female. The psychotic CRAMPS energy is definitely there, manifested by massive chunks of guitar spew and big drum beats and Lux's maniacally musical vocals.Having seen them live I can picture what was happening on stage when this was recorded, and it must have been a blast of a show.Definitely recommended for Cramps fans.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not that lively a live album:(
When I started buying the remastered recordings made by the Cramps, my collection had included this live album. I thought it was good at first because it introduced me to some of the songs from "A Date with Elvis" and "Songs the Lord Taught Us," but after a while I realized as a live album it lacked something. Maybe it was low on excitement or it was just plain cheesy. Read more
