3-0 out of 5 stars Send me a lullaby
As the reviewer below said, this album is just a re-issue of 1987's "Live at the Bottom Line". The sound quality isn't a big improvement over the original release, and despite the buying info, thereare no bonus tracks. However, live performances always have been animportant part of DC's oeuvre. For the most part, the songs here are takenfrom the album "The guitar and other machines", but it's hard toreproduce the complicated and powerful sound of this album on stage. Exceptfor some extended versions of DC classics like "Jacqueline" and"Missing boy", there's actually no reason for buying "Nightin N.Y.". The studio album "The guitar and.." also featuresfour live tracks with a better sound quality, recorded at WOMAD. By theway, DC's rarities collections "Dry" and "Red shoes"were recently reissued in Europe.

4-0 out of 5 stars Durutti comes alive!
This was an early 90's release, when Factory Records was still alive. It is a must for any Durutti Column fan that didn't catch the Column in concert. The live version of "Requiem" is outstanding. However, the sound quality of this recording leaves a lot to be desired. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars So sons finds devils?
The Virgin Prunes only availibal disc is horrible quality from a VHS tape? So very sad, and so very true! The Virgin Prunes should have a much better live album availbal. The album does have some intresting sound clips (that would be better suited some other place, not on a CD), and the songs are preformed good. The quality is not that awsome, but it does (in a way) make the disc more, well, distorted. If you are intrested in the Virgin Prunes, I would get thgis disc, for it is a great introduction to the band, for it was mine. ...2-0 out of 5 stars why this one?

4-0 out of 5 stars High energy and Low fidelity
I dislike this album for the same reason you might love it. Its sloppy drunk and lo-fi. It is indeed the wrong place to acquaint yourself with the Mekons. Not for the uninitiated.
5-0 out of 5 stars The tape is worn, the cd is new, I'm justnot human anymore
I was jumping like a frog when I saw that the Mekons had released New York on CD. The tape is absolutely precious to me for the simple reason that so few Mekons albums allow you to see the band at it's *personal* best. This is live, grungy, dirty, distressed, far-from-the-studio stuff and beyond that it is honest as hell. Hear the audience, hear Jon's sarcasm, but most of all hear the absolute beauty that is the Mekons.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Find It, Buy It
Jellyfish Reflector is a live disk that captures GBV in concert on 2/17/96, very near the release of their studio album, Under the Bushes, Under the Stars. For sheer quantity, this disk is a wonder, containing thirty-two tracks (!) on one disk. It's also a pretty good show, but I'm rather certain that most people would have some difficulty with its aural quality. Not that the disk sounds bad - by GBV standards, it's pretty darn good - but the tapes are completely untreated, and so the occasional flat note or strained vocal remains untouched. In terms of recording quality, it reminds me of live recordings I've made of my own band at one time or another, so I'm more inclined to forgive the lack in aural perfection than most. Thirty-two songs in their raw, live form are an awful lot for anyone to swallow, though, and I think that the `studio' recordings (I use the term loosely) would reel more people in.

5-0 out of 5 stars TG at their live coherent best
Genesis P-Orridge once stated in an interview that the LA show was the most violent and chaotic shows TG ever performed. The city of angels literally seeps in the Gristle psyche and pounds them to their knees.I have both Mission of Dead Souls and this disc and I must say that this is TG at its live best. The LA show especially. It does not contain "Walkabout" or "Hot on the Heels of Love" or any other Abba excuse. What it does contain is the most nihilistic of its artistic visions. This is the disc I play when I have a bad day- just crank it way up-IS IT LOUD ENOUGH FOR YOU!LLLLOOOOOUUUUUDDDDDDD! It is about as nasty as Slug Bait off of 2nd Annual Report cd which is just as good. Not for the faint of heart or even the so-called open-minded, this music actually bludgeons the listener and I am glad to own a piece of history.Besides a video of Discipline (Cleopatra has this on one of their dvds) this is a full length (TG only played an hour at a time) sonic masterpiece. If there are any serious Throbbing Gristle fans out there, skip all the Kreeme Corn and Assume Power Focus...that eerily seems to be poorly remixed 2nd Annual Report and get something that shows TG at their best.

1-0 out of 5 stars This CD will stop the heart of TG's greatest fans
Throbbing Gristle disbanded 20 years ago, but their subsequent releases quadruple what the band issued in its 'lifetime.' To own the complete Gristle collection requires shelfspace for a good 20+ CDs. This is one of the latest entries, and it's with this CD that I get off the bandwagon. Throbbing Gristle were always an enigma: loud/mellow/serious/stupid/shocking/cute. (Yes, cute). You could add most adjectives - an enigma is, after all, a bit of everything. But on this loud nasty CD, there is no enigma, it's all too simple. It's the sound of a man screaming while instruments run amok. It really is Chaos. Unpleasant as ever, but worthless as well. No one could like this. Perhaps TG fans will take that as a bet. If they listen to this, they'll know they've lost.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully chaotic.
This CD, Throbbing Gristle's first US live show, at Veterans Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA in May of 1981, is an amazing disconcert in true TG style. This is, I believe, the first time this show has been available on CD(although, there _may_ have been a bootleg release of it a few years ago)and I can't express how glad I am to finally be able to own it. This ismost certainly the most chaotic and truly noisey of the live recordingsfrom TG I have ever heard, although this is partly due to the slightlysub-par quality of the recording (it sounds like it was possibly anaudience recording), but honestly, the quality only -helps- in TG's case.Like the previous Dossier releases, the track-listing isn't exactly 100%on-the-dot "Still Walking" and "Principia Disciplinia"are the only songs that retain anything close to their original names. However, surprisingly for a Dossier TG release, Peter Christopherson's namefinally appears in the credits! This CD is a must for anyone who is a fanof the chaotic "industrial" noise of Throbbing Gristle, but Ireally don't think I suggest it to a newcomer to the band. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Dead Moon is an exception to the rule. For most bands, a live album is a toss-off, either a hastily assembled package released as a stopgap until the next studio project or something shoveled under management's door as a half-spirited contract fulfillment. For Dead Moon, a live album is like church on Christmas: an occasion for reverence and genuflection. Recorded somewhere in the Slovenia--in Europe Dead Moon are treated like living treasures--Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent live show on cd as well as in person
I just saw this band last night, and their energy on stage is amazing.Hard Wired is a great collection of their older songs, and definetely captures what makes them so good live.

2-0 out of 5 stars if you are buying cuz of Pearl Jam don't...
The Ramones meet AC/DC. A live record with the song covered by Pearl Jam. Not a great recording. The songs are good, would rather hear studio versions. If you are looking to buy cause of the Pearl Jam song.. don't waste your money. Otherwise they are a good band but the production is no good!

5-0 out of 5 stars Real Rock N Roll
Fred Cole has been around since he was the lead singer for the Lollipop Shoppe when he was 16 years old in 1966.Him and his wife Trudy formed the Rats in the mid 70's, some great well written punk music. I have a couple of the records. Then they did some country punk before it became popular. I have seen Fred and Trudy live a few times and they are great. Dead Moon has put out a bunch of stuff since the 70's, try to find the out of print stuff.have fun,EVL.. PS. The Rats and Dead Moon had a great impact in the NW with Punk and Country Punks. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars MC 5 - 'Extended Versions' (BMG Special Products)
Ten live tracks here, mostly aimed at the true MC 5 hardcore fans and completists.Sound isn't that good,STILL I've heard worse. Not sure if this live concert has been released under any other title. If you're patient and are willing to take time fiddling around with your stereo controls, you MIGHT be able to 'set' the dismal sound to appear to be semi-acceptable.I sort of did just that. Some of the listenable cuts here are the opener "Kick Out The Jams","Revolutionary Blues",the classic MC 5 foot-stomper "Looking At You",a Booker T.Jones classic that was made well known by Cream "Born Under A Bad Sign" and their eleven-minute closer "Black To Comm".If you want to check out some really great archive live MC 5,hunt down a copy of 'Teenage Lust' and 'Live At Sturgis Armory'(see my reviews of both). ... 5-0 out of 5 stars THE classic Punk Collection
When I first heard this album back in 77 as an impressionable 15 year old ABBA fan, I ripped up my clothes, tore down my glam posters and stuck a safety pin through my nose.
2-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best?? Hardly...
This is indeed one of the WORST live Heartbreakers performances documented. This album is basically the full live soundtrack to the 1984 reunion concert movie, "Dead or Alive." While it sucks just as equally in the movie, at least you get a visual idea of a Heartbreakers show with the film (Not a good one, but an exciting "reunion" one nonetheless). If you want these songs, I would recommend the double disc "Street Trash," because at least with that, you get a disc of early Dolls demos to help cleanse the pallette.
5-0 out of 5 stars This is the Resurrection...
With the vast number of Johnny Thunders post-mortem releases, it's hard to know which are any good.Having picked up my fair share of them already, I can honestly say that "Live At The Lyceum" is one of the best 'live' Heartbreakers albums on the market.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars just plain not that good
This is a 2-disc set that includes Kilburn National 27-11-90 on disc 1 and Caught In Session on disc 2.Neither of these albums were tremendously vital upon release, and even both together don't warrant that much of a look.Kilburn is a live show with a lot of banter between songs intact. The performances aren't incredibly energized and the sound quality isn't of the highest caliber, making this disc passable but hardly necessary.Disc 2 is Caught In Session, comprising 4 tracks from a 1989 Peel Session and 9 tracks from an "Evening Session" from late 1994.The former are fairly uninteresting, and the latter are either pointless "jingles" that last < 30 seconds, or versions of tracks from Demmamussabebonk.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Yet another repackaging of the same old shows
Don't get me wrong, some of the material on this set is first rate (though the sound quality is always mediocre at best...), but the bulk of this 3cd set is material already available as "Teenage Lust" and "Starship". The remaining "EP" CD is from the Unitarian church show of September '68. I haven't checked yet to see if these last tracks are the same previously released on various discs including "American Ruse", but it seems probable.....
