5-0 out of 5 stars DOCUMENTO EXPLOSIVO E IRREPETIBLE!!!!
ESTA EDICION ,QUE GUARDA LAINCANDESCENTE ACTUACION DE MC5, DEBE SER UNO DE LOS TESTIMONIOS EN VIVO MAS CREIBLES DE TODA UNA EPOCA, MUY PARTICULAR, POR CIERTO... LA CRUDEZA, DESPROLIJIDAD Y CREDIBILIDAD DE ESTE SONIDO REALMENTE ERIZA LA PIEL...ES COMO HABER ESTADO AHI..EN ESE PRECISO INSTANTE DONDE DOS GUITARRAS DESQUICIADAS DESMORONAN CONVENCIONALISMOS QUE LAMENTABLEMENTE HOY SIGUEN PRESENTES... ES LA EXPLOSION DE UN VOLCAN QUE LUEGO SE APAGARIA PARA SIEMPRE, PERPETUANDONO ERUPCIONES SINO ERUPTOS QUE TOMARIAN LA FORMA DEL PUNK ROCK.....

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Hard Rock
This is insane for 1968. Comparable to Motorhead, and years ahead of it's time. It would definately give Lemmy a run for his money, and even many modern alternative artists such as Disturbed don't even compare to the ridiculous hardness of the MC5. Rock On!

5-0 out of 5 stars Pure genius -- but not punk!
The only reason I mention the fact that this is not punk -- I was there at the Electric Circus in Manchester, England in 1977 to see the Stranglers, the Damned, and many others -- is that it might put people off who would otherwise be amazed by this album. I once managed to convert a rabid Ted Nugent fan, for example. Punk is essentially speedball thrash (in a good way!), but this is akin to Led Zep and the Who (the MC5 supported them at a Toronto gig in 1968: sheer musical mayhem!). The MC5 were not a Nuggets-style band (and again, I have no problem with such bands), but heavily influenced by the likes of boundary-pushing jazz giants like John Coltrane and Sun Ra (in fact, there's a Sun Ra piece on this very album). The true "soul brothers" of this all-time classic are the Who's heaven-storming Young Vic live album (Who's Next deluxe edition), Live at Leeds, Albert Ayler's Live in Greenwich Village, and Peter Brotzmann's Machine Gun.

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic album
No doubt this is the coming together of two brilliant musicians at a moment in time which has produced the most brilliant album which has clearly started a movement.Every song is brilliant.Sensational buy this before any other alt country album its the best

5-0 out of 5 stars American and Essential
This is a fine roots album if ever there was one. Before Wilco, before Son Volt, there was Uncle Tupelo. And of all the Uncle Tupelo discs, this, in my mind, stands supreme. The songs alternate vocals between Jeff Tweedy and Jar Farrar.Farrar, in his preacher's baritone, tends to sing more politically oriented songs, songs of the early twentieth century, socialist songs focusing on coal miners unionizing or the ills of capitalism on the small man.Farrar's version of Moonshiner is like a priceless relic suspended in amber.Tweedy (his voice sounds younger and more contemporary than Farrar) also tackles some good old Americana in "I wish my Baby was Born" and "Satan, Your Kingdom must Come Down."Overall Tweedy leans more toward the personal and emotional while Farrar seems more comfortable with traditional ballads. Most of the songs are traditional tunes - folk songs, blues songs, spirituals. The guitar work is strong, with both men playing acoustic to fill out the sound. On some songs there are mandolin and violin - but it's really an acoustic guitar driven record. The band does a superb job of capturing the timelessness of the older music, and does well to blend their tunes with such a venerable canon. This is folk music as it was meant to be - raw, intense, masculine, topical. There is nothing cheesy on this record - and "Atomic Power" is probably the standout cut on the disc.Buy this music - you won't be disappointed - I guarantee!

5-0 out of 5 stars Do not miss this one
If you are looking for one of the best Alt Country / Americana (whatever those are) CDs ever created this is it.Look no further. These guys were the masters of it.With so much crap on the radio, its nice to look back in time and find some real gems if you are willing to branch out and spend some $$.This album will lead you to buy CDs from Son Volt, Wilco, and Jay solo.A must for the critical music lover. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The essence of the 90s alt-country movement
Anodyne catches Uncle Tupelo at their zenith. At that moment when a band realizes their potential just before the wheels come off. Each of these songs have much too offer."Acuff-Rose", "We've Been Had", the Doug Sahm cover "Give Back the Key to My Heart" are the highlights of a cd full of gems.Buy this record, turn it to 11, pour a glass of bourbon of your choice, and become a part of the greatest American alt-country band doing what they do best. ... Editorial Review

Laurie Anderson scored an improbable hit in the early ‘80s with the atmospheric "O Superman," a song that appears near the end of this exhaustive two-disc live set. Despite a new arrangement, the track sounds just as entrancing as it did 20 years ago, if only because the 90 minutes leading up to it features some of the most complex, dreamlike, and unnerving music ever produced. But given that these concerts were recorded just days after the September 11 attacks in New York, the effect is all the more chilling--just try to hold back the goose bumps when Anderson sings, "Here come the planes / They're American planes / Made in America." The air of intensity is palpable throughout Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Stellar!
I've seen Laurie Anderson live on a half-dozen occasions, and the shows are always somehow new.
5-0 out of 5 stars Love
A maximum of 1,000 words is not enough to do justice to one of the most glorious artists of our time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Attending the event
Playing this CD makes the listener feel they are attending the event itself. The music itself is amazing right through, as are the spken word pieces. There is an intimacy, some intensity, some discomfort but some delight too, for example when the anecdote ('Beginning French') about French 'traffic testers' gives way discreetly to the intro of 'O Superman.' But the intensity is felt most when Laurie refers to 9/11 and her reactions, playing that evening, the sense of an entirley changed world. Her songs fit. My favourites here are O Superman, which I knew from the 8os and Strange Angels, which I didn't know before. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars You had to be there
ALL THE BEST SONGS ARE ON OTHER ALBUMS.
4-0 out of 5 stars Overdue for digital remastering
I remember seeing this performance series being advertised in The Village Voice & wanting desparately to go...but at 17, I didn't quite have the wherewithall to get the $ together to go & have always regretted this. But it was soon enough after that I had a summer job & the LPs were available. The sound was rather thin & scratches noticeable, so I bought the CD box soon after that. I always see this box set around (new & used), so I'm surprised that people say they haven't been able to find it. I always had half-wished that it had gone out of print, if only so that it finally gets the digital remastering (from the original tapes) that it deserves. The one thing that has bugged me about the set is that there is occassional popping/crackling noises that makes it sound as if the cd's were mastered from a pristine LP.The sound on the LP's was always very quiet & you had to turn up the volume, which made any surface noise extremely unpleasant. The CD's are louder, but the tape hiss is more obvious. Some cd's are already on their 3rd remastering.....so it seems that an upgrade is long overdue, SACD would be nice too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy it, relive it or live it for the first time...
I had the good fortune of attending this two day performance in Brooklyn. It felt then like we were participating in something special.Looking back it was as I can't think of anything else from the 80's that was in anyway cultural or arresting.Maybe the Clash's first night at bond's before the fire dept showed up?Anyway during intermission the second night my current wife then girlfriend accidently kicked Grace Jones in the ankle while she was sipping champagne. We thought she was going to kick both of our asses.Luckilly Phillip Glass was walking by at that moment and struck up a conversation w/ her and save us from such humiliation.Plus it was so hard to get a cab to take you from the city to brooklyn back then. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good music... just too short.
Don't get me wrong, the music on this CD is very good. It's in usualMelvins fashion, heavy and melodic. The thing is, the entire album is lessthan 22 minutes long. It's often been bemoaned that the Birthday Party, Nick Cave's postpunk outfit, never managed to capture on record the confrontational frenzy of their live performances. These four sessions, recorded for the John Peel radio show between September 1980 and November 1982, arguably form the most accurate portrayal of the band ever released, as they were under severe time constraints on each occasion. The 16 tracks survey their finest work--"She's Hit," "Big Jesus Trash Can," "King Ink"--all with simple, portentous bass lines and Rowland Howard's vicious stabs of reverberating guitar. The juddering rockabilly of "Release the Bats" (which, much to Cave's disgust, became an anthem for Goths worldwide) is also featured, along with the seldom heard "Marry Me (Lie! Lie!)" and a churning cover of the Stooges' "Loose." As the tracks (and the years) pass, one can see Cave's progression toward writing somber murder ballads, such as "Deep in the Woods." And there is undeniable evidence that he was a tremendously funny man from the start: "Even my dog kicks me!" he howls during "Figure of Fun." Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars yet another 5-star Nick Cave recording
The more that I listen to Nick Cave, the more I strain my imagination as to any other musician who can touch him. No one else rocks so hard.I ran across this CD in a used bin today and have listened to it three times already. "Blistering" is the word for this one. One observation: I swear I hear influences of the Captain's Trout Mask Replica....which is by no means a bad thing.

4-0 out of 5 stars About time this came out...
The first release I heard by the Birthday Party was actually their Peel EP (the old ones with the grey cover) that I picked up while in high school years ago. I really dug it -- at the time, it was possibly the most horrifying thing I'd ever heard -- and I really enjoyed tracks like "Sometimes Pleasure Heads Must Burn," probably my favorite BP song. Anyway, this Peel session brings the EP back, along with a lot of other material. Generally, Peel sessions don't disappoint, and neither does this. Play it loud for someone you love.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Fun Party
It's simply another album of collected songs from the greatest band in the 80's or any time before it, The Birthday Party. And so, simply put, it's an album of fantastic quality and electrifying fun from Nick Cave and his group of rebel musicians that will get your blood bumping and jumping if you are a fan of old, rough and original rock from the creators of such masterpieces as Dead Joe, The Six Strings that Drew Blood, and Sonny's Buring. This album is the greatest collection of The Birthday Party's songs yet to be released. ... You'd have to look long and hard to find a more unclassifiable artist than Diamanda Galas. Her mesmerizing voice sounds something like Tina Turner, something like Janis Joplin, and something like Jessye Norman. It's hard to pay attention to what she's actually singing at first; Galas's voice is that compelling, from the deep, heavy notes of "Iron Lady" to the high, shivering pitches of "The Thrill Is Gone." She takes everything from French writer Baudelaire's "Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars STILLLISTENING TO DIAMANDA
I wrote a review awhile back in 2001 and my view of this cd hasn't changed. I still very much enjoy this cd. Since then, I have bought her two other subsequent releases: "La Serpenta Canta", and oh I forgot the title of the other cd. Oh well, check this cd out; I'm sure Diamanda would appreciate it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Scary...
...I first heard of Diamanda Galas more than 15 years ago, and before her music I knew about her outspoken nature.I read in a magazine about how she wanted to f--- a man because she wanted one to know what it was like to be raped.Okay...a few years later at a conference about AIDS she proclaimed one of the big problems about the disease was she couldn't get laid easily anymore (though someone else on the panel said he'd be glad to oblige her).
5-0 out of 5 stars crystalline horror
When you've listened to Galas before, and felt chills down your spine from the cries on Vena Cava or Litanies of Satan, this will probably surprise you. Unmistakenly Galas, with her voice somewhat richer, deepened in musical texture, the songs nevertheless are sometimes actually beautiful to listen to, instead of little musical displays of horror. Both the recording and the music are, in want of a better word, clear. Dark sides are, of course, crucial to this clearness. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Brown is good
Every Ween enthusiast should own this, but it is definitely not their best cd (nor their best live cd - buy Stubb's first). However, true fans will not want to miss out on owning the prayer-call intro to ICPMFOI.I saw that preformed live once and it was beautiful! So that song in itself makes it worth buying this cd.

2-0 out of 5 stars For fans...
I remember when I bought this CD... it was during my post-college, pre-employment phase. I woke up at about 3:00pm, swallowed a handful of asprin to stave off a bad hangover, went to pick up the CD, came home, popped it in and sat on my couch with a bowl of fruity pebbles... the full Ween experience! Anyway, I was pretty disappointed. I mean, I had sprung for the CD instead of another fifth of Early Times whiskey!! The first disc is listenable, with some great moments from their awesome '96 tour (best Ween tour ever??), but also some really badly recorded early stuff. There is a great version of "Mountain Dew" though, that will make this disc worthwhile for hardcore Ween fans. The vastly varying sound quality is what ruins my enjoyment of the first disc overall... if it was all lo-fi (a la "The Pod") I could have dealt with it, but going from crisp, pro-engineered multitrack recordings to amature DAT stuff is just annoying. The second disc has the best version of "Poopship Destroyer" and a hell of a lot of noodling that doesn't sound so good when one is sober.... hmm... A few years down the road, and I'm a respectable member of society. I still love Ween, but this is definitely the disc I reach for the least. This is aimed squarely at serious fans, and newcomers or general listeners should definitely start elsewhere... Not bad, but certainly in the "For Fans" category.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you don't know WEEN, you ain't brown...
Lets face it -- if this album is your first exposure to Dean & Gene Ween's music, your response will probably range from mild annoyance to outright cringing. But for us Ween officianados, and especially for thosewho have been fortunate to be blessed with a 4-hour live show or two, thisalbum is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.Early super-sloppyinclusions such as "Mushroom Festival in Hell" and "MountainDew" demonstrates the band's remarkable ability to really rock withoutreally worrying about how they sound (you'll see what I mean). But beforeyou dismiss them as just another over-indulging garage band, check out thehard-as-rock licks by Deaner in "Awesome Sound" or Gener'ssoaring vocals in "Can't Put My Finger On It" or Claude Coleman'sother-worldly drum solo in "Vallejo". Ween rules.God bless theBoognish. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Authentic look at raw authentic punk
To begin, this CD is very good and a buy for seasoned DK listeners. The quality is good and so is the set list. However this is not a CD that will likely be enjoyed by those not already familiar with the works, as some of the songs are performed a bit sloppily. Understand though that this is the Kennedys live in their hay-day and that is what punk is, especially harder punk; pretty inconsistent and rough on stage. If you buy this CD don't expect studio tracks, expect to smell the sweat a little if you know what I mean. I have read that Biafra condemns these reissues, however his opinion is obviously biased considering he no longer holds rights to the "dead kennedys". In summary this is a naked look into the actual past of one of America's best punk bands live and in their element, it is a very worthwhile album and valuable to the true listeners. If this CD was not released the public would be hard pressed to ever peer into that evening in San Fran and get their fill of smoke, sweat and speed, but thankfully the recording is now available to those who want to listen. Good packaging too.

1-0 out of 5 stars Get your snake oil here!!!
Ha!! This is crap!! There is nothing at all here that is worth the purchase. The only cool thing is the disco version of "Kill The Poor" which is actually REALLY good. This set was recorded before FFFRV was released and it shows. Every song pales in contrast to the later studio versions. I was very interested to hear how the extra guitar would embellish the songs, but a very curious mixing job almost hides it in back. And as for all the 'hype' about the unreleased song "Gaslight".... there was a reason it went unheard: because it out and out stinks!!! A strong chorus catch phrase does not make a good song. It sounds unfinished and chaotic. The cover songs at sets end are also pointless and boring... This cd sucks. 'First Mutiny On The Bay' (which was pretty atrocious... don't tell me those were the best versions of songs they could find for that turd, that's pathetic), then this... Come on Biafra-less Dead Kennedys... stop living in the past. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see these guys are only out for the bucks. This release would NOT make a fan out of the band. I'll repeat that one: It will NOT make a fan out of the band. Why not a "new" live album with their newest replacement (i won't say scab) singer? Play all the old crappy, forgotten tunes you dropped, rock out your best karaoke versions of your 'greatest hits' and give us a real treat to hold in our hands. Better yet, instead of rehashing the past, why not put out a NEW album, with NEW songs. I triple dog dare ya!!! See if Biafra was really as unimportant to the fans and band as you seem to imply in interviews. If he was, why this crap rehash? The only good points about this are the very clean sound and Ted's killer drumming on "Ill In The Head". Oh and nice booklet of "new DK art".... not!! Pathetic... another half hearted attempt at cashing in on past laurels with absolutely no clue. I admit it, you got me again with the proverbial carrot on the stick!!! Forked out another dime on you snake oil salesman. And like true snake oil, the promises were in the packaging. Stay Away!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good But Not The Best
This is a good live Dead Kennedys cd but I think that the cd Mutiny On The Bay is a much better live cd. I don't know why everyone hates Mutiny On The Bay and loves Live at the Deaf Club. I bought this album because I have never been lucky enough to get my hands on a bootleg.I wish I would have tried a lot harder to get one now. It's also difficult to resist the urge to buy a "new" DK album-especially when, like me, you were too young to get the opportunity in the 80's.The most notable songs are rather mediocre on this album, so my favorites on "Mutiny" would have to be "This Could Be Anywhere", "I Am the Owl" and "Riot."Jello always managed to keep the songs timeless with his live takes, and it's a shame the new singer can't at least do the so without the same level of creativity. It is obvious how this whole lawsuit/Manifesto/reunion thing came about when you look to the solo efforts of the other members too.I would especially recommend a good long look at Klaus' "The Light is Flickering",or Ray's "Sex is Sex" before anyone goes defending them.I saw Peligro at Social Chaos Tour in Lawrence,KS in 1999 and they were good live, but the albums didn't have the same resonance (plus all he talked about was being the drummer for DK, even wore a DK shirt-geez move on!Meanwhile he was suing his former frontman over money!Way to carry on the legacy!).This album, like any other DK release, is worth having-as long as you can sleep at night knowing who you're supporting. It's the same feeling you get drinking a Coke after you hear stuff about them assassinating union leaders in South America...diirrrty!

4-0 out of 5 stars Dead Kennedys - 'Mutiny On The Bay' (Manifesto) 4 1/2 stars
Full title:'Mutiny On The Bay-Dead Kennedys Live! From The San Francisco Bay Area'.Apparently, former vocalist Jello Biafra had lost a lengthy court battle to block the release of 'Mutiny...',the one of just two legit live Dead Kennedy archive performanes. This fourteen track CD was pulled from four(4)different live shows that took place in 1982 and 1986,which is 'strung' together as one.I LIKE that in a live release.Overall, just great body slammin' all American punk.Tunes that did it for me were "Holiday In Cambodia",the in-your-face "Moon Over Marin",the radical "MTV-Get Off The Air","Too Drunk To F**k" and "Hell Nation".Line-up:Biafra-vocals,East Bay Ray-guitar,Klaus Flouride-bass and D.H.Peligro-drums.A must-have for any and all true fans of 'angry/misguided' punk.Should appeal to fans Minor Threat,Black Flag,T.S.O.L.,Circle Jerks and The Germs.

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolute crap
Horrible. A cash-grab. A fecal-footprint on the amazing DK live-experience.

4-0 out of 5 stars Concert movies
Concert movies tend to suck, the very fact that it's recorded and you're watching it in your living room breaks with what's happening, and they tend to end up feeling "guh."You can't feel the energy in the room, you can't look where you would normally look (take a glance at a person around you and you can see how they react) so all of that "ambience" is lost.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Concert DVD
I was sure glad to hear of this band. My first introduction was this concert DVD.I guess if I were there I would consider it as one of the best live shows I've been to.The band effortlessly shifts into different genres with enough skill that you wonder why they never tried to tackle them seriously.Maybe they don't want to, or maybe they don't want to risk being pretensious. The guitar player is almost as deft at his instrument as Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix, while the singer brings some expert melodies that only a gifted songwriter can conceive (the rest of the band is great too). The result is that Ween's songs appeal to one's humorous tendencies (though I admit I didn't laugh along to all it).

5-0 out of 5 stars The best live band of the last 10 years
Yeah, maybe the concert is only 3 stars, when compared to other Ween shows (like Live At Stubbs or Live In Toronto), but it's 5 stars compared to any other music concert DVD available. It's a very good Ween concert and includes songs from all of their CD's.The bonus audio CD really adds to the value of this package.Their range as a band is amazing. They skillfully swoop from metal to country to 70's jam rock to cabaret to jangle rock with scary ease.Dean Ween is our generation's Jimi Hendrix. He is THAT good. His solos are like train wrecks crossed with airplane landings. The band's version of Led Zeppelin's "All Of My Love" is a dead-on, perfect replica, and it alone makes this worth purchase. There aren't many bands around today that can equal Ween with live performing talent.A few that are in their realm are Los Lobos, the Mekons, Primal Scream, Wilco, Midnight Oil (they were, at least, until their recent breakup), the Roots, and that's about it.Ween should be selling millions of records.Don't miss out on one of the era's best groups. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Holland 1990
To the extent that a Nomeansno show was exactly like a spiritual revelation, this cd is the resurrection and the life.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic live show of the Andy-era NMN
What can I say? I've seen these guys live at least 6 or 7 times, and this CD is representative of their best shows. Their interplay with the audience is hilarious. Just check out Andy mocking an obnoxious individual duringhis "solo"...

4-0 out of 5 stars power-punk trio in tight form
This is NoMeansNo's album from their Wrong tour. The band is in great form, and the sound quality is excellent for a club gig. as live rock albums go, I would put this up with the Stones' Get Yer Ya-Yas Out. Theseguys are punk predecessors of many 'alternative' bands out there (Tool andKorn come to mind immediately). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 2.5 Kicks To The Head
This collection is a great buy. Not only is the packaging superb, but there are extensive liner notes and the official bullet-points of The White Panther party so you can understand the rights, people, and beliefs this band stood up for.
5-0 out of 5 stars I am ready to testify!!!!
The MC5 are one of the most influential and underrated bands of the late 1960's.They only released three albums before they imploded in the early 1970's.This is a great re-release of some previously released bootlegs. The sound quality isn't the greatest, but these are bootleg recording from over 30 years ago. That does not take away from the passion that the band plays with, nor there skills as musicians. This is an excellent release for anyone interested in a band that has been an influence hard rock, heavy metal, and punk rock.

2-0 out of 5 stars poor sound quality make this box problematic
the sound quality of this box set is lousy. it varies somewhat from cd to cd (separate performances) but it's never good. vocals are muffled and distorted throughout and even some spoken song intros are hard to understand. at times the bass isnonexistent. in short, real bootleg recordings from 1968 & 70. so although the band seems to be in very good form here, only ardent MC5 fans need consider buying this because the sound quality's a real problem. 2 and 1/2 stars. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars baddass
I dont know what two stars here is talkin about, this cd's awesome, its a live cd, of course the quality not goin to be the best, but its completely raw, fresh sound, that doesnt require the best quality to sound good, which is chevelles greatest attribute, buy with confidence, if you liked point no.1 this cd is for you

4-0 out of 5 stars Hmmmmm...
I should say this is the best live album i've ever heard...I live the lurching riffs, and the high and low vocals of the songs. I don't really likea lot of music with high screaming vocals, but they really compliment the music. If you never heard Chevelle before I suggest you pick up a cd....i think point #1 is the best CD i've heard so far....

3-0 out of 5 stars God playing but bad singing
Pete is a great guitarist, but the voice when he sings on live is much worse becouse it's false many times false in the songs when he sings but, like i said before he's very good on guitar and and the two brothers play's good bass and drums, but thats my opinion, so i suggest to buy the other cd's "Wonder what's next" or "This type of thinkin", but if you like bad singing sometimes thiscd is great! ... Editorial Review

Angular art punk fronted by a dagger-wielding madman with literary pretensions? The Birthday Party didn't simply flirt with chaos, they inhaled it; chaos flowed through their veins and ignited the spark for every firing synapse of this exquisitely dark band. 4-0 out of 5 stars Put The Birthday Party on a stage, where they belong!
Nick Cave has always been one of these artists who is more than just a singer: he is a performer. He belongs on stage, in recent years with his Bad Seeds ensemble, and in the early years with The Birthday Party.
5-0 out of 5 stars Set to fry your brain
If you are brave enough to buy this CD, be prepared for this CD to scour your brain inside and out. It's fiendishly noisy. There was an old review I read on the internet with the band and Nick Cave had said that he was unimpressed with some of the recordings of that time because they did not capture the intensity of their live performances. After listening to this, I can see what he means. This is obnoxiously ferocious. The sort of take-no-prisoners live album that shreds it's instruments for an all-out aural assault. Some of the songs are virtually unrecognizable from their studio counterparts. While I've never gone to a Birthday Party concert, this CD would pretty much give me a clear indication about how it would be like. You could probably end up empty headed, sore and in desperate need of paraceteamol to cure that thumping headache. If you are brave enough to listen to this, make sure you have aspirin at the ready....because your headache could get nasty!

5-0 out of 5 stars Are you listening, sonny?
Every track here is a classic.Better than the studio versions. The bass and drums are set to pulverize, every note sounds like a punch in the stomach. The guitars are chaotic and Nick Cave is brilliant. I first heard the Birthday Party when I picked up the hits album when I was 16. I had never heard anything like it and was hooked immediately and spent the next few years tracking down all the studio releases.I was completed saturated and sated with the Birthday Party albums I had and eventually moved on to other bands. This album again has just blown me away.I'm hooked again.Great stuff. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars The Muppets Take Copenhagen
OK - it's not as if Galaxie 500's live show ever was much to brand with superlatives. Check out Damon & Naomi's modern-day wankfests for evidence (and bring me back some Romilar as a souvenir ... zzzz ... ).Aside from serving some sentimental purpose for the G500 folks now mopingthrough middle age, ain't much this CD, documenting the band's finalEuropean performance, has to offer. Like most live recordings, the bass ismixed too high, the guitars too low in some sort of a jagged murk, thevocals from some cave north of Omsk. And those voices - yeesh, and this iswhen Wareham's forlorn whininess actually sounded most at home. On"When Will You Come Home," though, it sounds as if he's beenhanging out in the kitchen with the Swedish Chef and a puppeteer has a handup his rear. The covers (Yoko Ono, George Harrison) are interesting in andof themselves, but God bless y'all if you see the need to listen to themmore than once.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent
Before Low, before Mogwai and before Luna, these guys were perfecting the perfect slow core pop, I was lucky enough to catch them play live and since they wont be doing that anymore this is a perfect document as to how greatGalaxie 500 sound outside of the studio.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Diamanda: a sparkling Diamond
I enjoy this cd very much. Diamanda is definitely on my top 10 of solo artists. However, I prefer the live version of INSANE ASYLUM featured on "MALEDICTION AND PRAYER" than this studio recording. It's less gothic soundingand on MAP it sounds bluesy and her vocals are spunky and just has that "OOMPH." It's clear that she's influenced by blues but also is well rounded and diverse as she tackles spirituals and classical as witnessed on MAP. The cover photo is attractive and I like the blue-gray tint the used. I seem to enjoy Diamanda when she's at the piano and singing-the shreiks and noises(and ya all know what I mean), doesn't bother me as much. But "PLAGUE MASS", "VENA CAVA" and "SHREI-X" are very disturbing and I can only handle sections of those cd's- no disrespect to Diamanda. I do, really admire her.

5-0 out of 5 stars A landmark recording
Galas' performance of these songs is simply awesome. Many have sung them before her, but who will dare to sing them after her? Her performance somehow transfigures these very familiar classic blues and spirituals, bringing out a depth of emotion, an awesome power and force, a wonderful subtlety of feeling that was hitherto unknown. Her voice blends perfectly with the piano, her vocals are perfectly balanced, each "scream" and intonation neither too much nor too little, but just perfect. I don't think I will ever again be able to listen to someone else's interpretation of "I put a spell on you" or "A balm in Gilead" without somehow finding it lacking in comparison with Diamanda Galas' performance. She simply outshines them all.

5-0 out of 5 stars A real performance...

Editorial Review

Dead Moon is an exception to the rule. For most bands, a live album is a toss-off, either a hastily assembled package released as a stopgap until the next studio project or something shoveled under management's door as a half-spirited contract fulfillment. For Dead Moon, a live album is like church on Christmas: an occasion for reverence and genuflection. Recorded somewhere in the Slovenia--in Europe Dead Moon are treated like living treasures--Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent live show on cd as well as in person
I just saw this band last night, and their energy on stage is amazing.Hard Wired is a great collection of their older songs, and definetely captures what makes them so good live.

2-0 out of 5 stars if you are buying cuz of Pearl Jam don't...
The Ramones meet AC/DC. A live record with the song covered by Pearl Jam. Not a great recording. The songs are good, would rather hear studio versions. If you are looking to buy cause of the Pearl Jam song.. don't waste your money. Otherwise they are a good band but the production is no good!

5-0 out of 5 stars Real Rock N Roll
