5-0 out of 5 stars everything matters but nothing matters at all
Sorry, if I offend some of the TSOL fans out there....but, TSOL's Revenge is TSOL's best work and is my absolute favorite music album of all time. Yes, I said "of all time".Need I say more?

5-0 out of 5 stars joe wood is in fact a great vocalist.
i dont like how every so called "punk" dismisses this album as "not really tsol" or say "anything without jack sucked." while yes, change today was just an okay album, this album ranks up along with dance with me, beneath the shadows, and disappear as the best tsol albums. id like to see a tsol fan say songs such as "madhouse" and "nothing for you" arent that good...and yes, i do prefer this album over their first self titled ep some of the time. other notworthy songs are "no time" "memories" "colors(take me away)" and the title song. this is definately the forgotten classic of the tsol family being overshadowed by change today? and disappear. i recommend people listen to it. sure, its not near as great as jack grisham's TSOL, but thats like saying 22 karat gold isn't as good as 24 karat.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's A Shame Really
This album is really good. a 3 and a half, but not quite a four. The sad part is that TSOL gets a lot of crap for putting their name on this album. People expect the old TSOL and this is NOT the old TSOL. I love the old TSOL and to compare it to this album is wrong. The drums are very punk but wood adds an incredible rock feel to this album. If you only listen to something if its punk don't get this. If you just like good music pick this up. ... Read more

Punk ain't dumb. Not with a creative lineage that includes everythingfrom the Clash to Nirvana. Bad Religion has been part of that history since1980. Whatever they lack in instrumental virtuosity is made up for here insinger Greg Graffin's urgent two-minute manifestos on society and worldpolitics. 5-0 out of 5 stars Very very good.
So many people give this album bad reviews.I think that most of it is just the "no Brett" prejudice, but the rest is probably just going along with everyone else's closed-mindedness.I just got this album, and it is AMAZING!It starts off with a great song, and it just keeps on delivering. The fact that Brett Gurewitz didn't write any songs on this album didn't make Greg's songs any less good. This album has tons of energy, catchy melodies, and amazing lyrics. It doesn't really sound like the typical Bad Religion album, but believe you me--it is DEFINITELY worth buying.
5-0 out of 5 stars This album is incredible
Pay NO attention to the reviews dissing No Substance.I am a *huge* Bad Religion fan.Boots, singles, CDs, hell, I even have the early hard-to-find vinyl.AND I am a huge music fan in general with 3500+ CDs.This isn't my most favorite Bad Religion CD, not sure what that would be.BUT, this is the most listened to CD in my entire collection, by FAR.
4-0 out of 5 stars one of their worst, but that is no problem for BR
this album still is basically better than many bands' best.this album is great! i dont see how you could rate it lower than 3 stars even if brett was absent. defiantely has the best single songs of the no brett years. it dwarfs recipe for hate by far. the only albums lesser than this are new america and recipe for hate. id put it on par with into the unknown and gray race.

Hardcore is in general a genre that produces a lot of "dime a dozen" bands. The plus side to this though is that every now and then, there's a diamond in the rough that comes along and releases a fantastic album. One such band is Buffalo, NY's Dead Hearts. I really enjoyed their debut EP No Love, No Hope and it's safe to say that the band have stepped up their game here on Bitter Verses which serves as their full length debut.

Editorial Review

There was never anything fancy about these New York hardcore pioneers, just the aural equivalent of a swift kick to the nether regions followed by a brass-knuckled rap on the noggin. Then again, that's probably what made Roger Miret & Co. so popular with the testosterone-fueled adolescents that related to the band's might-makes-right approach. The band drew some criticism for its avowedly right-wing political stance--"Shoot His Load" praised subway gunman Bernhard Goetz, while "Public Assistance" knocked those who accepted it--but repeated exposure reveals them to be total misanthropes, rather than antagonists of any specific group. If a feel-good album is what you're looking for, steer clear. But those hankering for a shot of no-frills punk-metal with a side of malice will certainly feel sated. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars NYHC Classic!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hardcore at its best
These guys are the fathers of hardcore. You can't go wrong buying every other bands influence.

4-0 out of 5 stars D.K. Malone, you are Definitely WRONG!
I had to stand up to D.K. Malone's "one eyed" review of this 2 classic hardcore albums. For starters, this CD includes AGNOSTIC FRONT's 1st full album release, "Victim In Pain" and their second, more metal oriented "Cause For Alarm". Production wise, there IS an abysmal difference between both albums. "Victim" is a decidedly low-budget affair, but what it lacks in the production department more than makes up in the attitude and aggression zone. Granted, Vinnie Stigma is NOT hardcore's answer to Eddie Van Halen...but in that sense, NO hardcore guitarist ever was! Gregg Ginn

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best!
I picked this album up used about 8 years ago, and after listening to it I asked one question."Who the hell would sell this CD?" selling this album is the equivalent of selling a human soul! For the next 8 years this album along with "Hello Bastards" have had a helping hand in molding me as a person and individual.People have forgotten the days when Saves the Day were nicknamed "Jersey's Second Best Dancers" because of there unapolgetic Lifetime impersonation in the early days of that band.
5-0 out of 5 stars monumental...to say the least
This CD, this band itself is definitely one of the most influential and monumental bands in recent time. Showing lyrical and moral comparison to bands like Braid, Rites of Spring, and Sunny Day Real Estate, Lifetime plays simple, straigh-forward, honest music. Honesty is the one thing most bands seem to be missing lately, and it's also the element that seems to separate the good bands from the great bands. I'm in a band myself, and I'd have to say Lifetime is one of if not the greatest influence we've had. Buy this cd or anything from Lifetime! It will surely last that long.

5-0 out of 5 stars will never get old
rarely you come across a cd that will stay with you your entire life.this is one of those cd's.this record is a classic, pure and simple.back when it came out I thought they had broken up.I didn't even know this album was coming out.when I opened the packaging and saw the "exit" sign printed on the disc, I knew it was over.but what a way to go out!

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than 95% of what's currently being played on rock radio
Those who are used to the hard-hitting, edgy, raw feel of Stavesacre's earlier albums, Friction and Absolutes are in for a bit of a surprise when they pop this one in the player. With Speakeasy, Stavesacre tones down much of their prior edginess in favor of a more radio-friendly feel. There are still some aggressive tracks on the album, including, "You Know How It Is" and "Disquiet," which will definitely appeal to those familiar with the older material.Similarly, Stavesacre's first album, Friction, had its share of ballads in "At the Moment," "Burning Clean," and "Stars and Clouds" so it's not like they've never played more subdued material before.Still, those who are familiar with the first two albums will definitely notice a new feel with Speakeasy.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Creative Milestone for Mark Salomon and Company...
If you've heard Stavesacre's previous material, you can see the progression and artistic vision that brought them to this record. This is where it all began to take shape.Friction and Absolutes are great collections of songs, but in the end that's all they are.Speakeasy finds the band in full stride, having learned from past inadequacies, and ready to put out the album of their career.I can best describe the music as atmospheric post-hardcore rock, and musically they do a stellar job. However, the thing that strikes me most about this record is the atmosphere or mood that permeates these songs. From the beginning right down to the simply stunning cover of The Cure's "Fascination Street" and beyond, there is some kind of eerie, autumnal shadow lurking behind every riff and lyric that simultaneously makes you shudder and tingle. Not to make the comparison too easy, but the progression of songs on this record are not unlike The Cure's Disintegration, each song sending you deeper into a corner of yourself that you'd rather not have to face. And that's where this album succeeds. It is journey through the questions that seem to have no answers ("Gold and Silver," "Sundown Motel,") to a place of total despair ("Fascination Street,"Rivers Underneath") and ultimately a place of understanding and redemption ("This Love").The journey will be well worth your time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Speakeasy presents change to Stavesacre fans
Speakeasy represented a turn in Stavesacre's direction with the departure of Jeff Bellew on guitar and the introduction of Ryan Dennee. It is considered by the band members to be one of their best albums; an opinion shared by many Stavesacre fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars unexpected by welcome
the market is flooded with bands that people think are creative. Sure a band can go from big breakdowns and screaming to slowing it down and singing... that has all been done before. but how bands do you know can go from thrashing riffs and screaming to a jazz outro on one song? Or from big spoken word entries to huge melodic choruses that are so catchy but at the same time do not match the hectic music under it? not many bands can do this...
5-0 out of 5 stars Another completely undiscovered and very talented ROCK act
I'll start by saying the bands that Far-Less is grouped with is completely off. These guys sound more like Hoobastank with some metal thrown in here and there more than anything else....and the genre, though most say this band is too hard to define, is undoubtedly ROCK...or if you're into specifics, Alternative Rock.Anyway, This should be grouped with bands like Breaking Benjamin, Hooba, Finch, etc...just plain good music and if you're hesitant based upon the "similar items" category then quite literally pay no mind at all because it's not alike most of them and you're missing out if you haven't heard this cd.Also, the other 2 cd's by this band are great too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good stuff
This a really good album. I'll make my praise for it quick. Everyone on this album are talented musicians. Most noteworthy of them all is the singer(Is his name Brandon?) He ads extra depth to the songs and his voice is one of the best i have heard. The drummer moves like crazy on the drums, and the guitars are pretty good(no break out solos, though) The bassist has some cool parts in the songs too. Get this CD, it will be worth it, trust me. I can't wait untill their next album, i fully expect for it to blow me away. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What?
I don't know what's with all the complaining about this album.I am a long-time get-up kids fan, and I think this was a great album for them.It showed immenses artistic depth, a great amount of atmosphere, and very solid songwriting through-out.Unfortunately, they only made one VERY different album after this, and then they broke up on the 4th of July. Definetly my favorite song is Walking on a Wire.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Get Up Kids- 4.5, whats with the 3.5 average?
I just bought this cd recently, after going to the store to get 'a four minute mile.' They didn't have it, so I got this instead. Now, I am pleasently suprised by it. It has a bunch of great songs with great lyrics, and I can not think of one song I do not like, Though the title track is probably the weakest.
5-0 out of 5 stars Final Word to all potential buyers
First of all, it saddens me to see so many people ripping this album apart. While I appreciate a band's connection and obligation to its fans, the band has to be allowed to move in whatever direction their inspiration takes them.Who is the random fan from Nowhere, USA to tell Matt, "That's not what you are passionate about, write something better!"Get off these guys backs and let them write and play what they want to.If you don't like the direction the band is going, don't buy their CD's.It's your right as a consumer just as producing unique albums is their right as a band.Anyway, On A Wire is my personal favorite GUK CD.Yes, for all those that are skeptical of my level of devotion, I do own all of their CD's and have seen them live multiple times in different stages of the band's career. It is a stylistic departure from their previous work.Rhythmically there is more variation in here than in previous works where a quick driving beat was prevelant. The acoustic songs (Overdue and Campfire Kansas) are incredibly beautiful and flowing.Though they won't start a pit, they might actually evoke real emotion, not that I'm labeling the band emo or anything so utterly inexcusable.Walking on a Wire is possibly one of the most powerful songs I've ever heard live. When I first got the CD, I kind of glossed over it.When you hear it in a small club with the sound pulsing through you, the crecendo over the last minute or so is simply moving. While I didn't mention any of the other songs, there is no filler here.I'll finish with that and a disclaimer: Listen to it a bunch of times. It grew on me, it might do the same for you.If you don't like it, fine but at least give it a shot. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Classic of both extreme metal and experimental music
The Dillinger Escape Plan's debut and masterpiece, Calculating Infinity, struck the music world from, as far as I can tell, out of nowhere. As far as influences go, the closest I can think of is the Dazzling Killmen's technical hardcore, Meshuggah's dissonance and lack of melody, Cynic's mix of jazz and metal, and John Zorn (Naked City, to be precise)/Mr. Bungle's need to encompass as many genres into one album as possible. But none of those bands really come all that close to sounding like Calculating Infinity, although I suppose they were precursors to The Dillinger Escape Plan's defining attributes - the intricate, staccato riffs, the number musical styles that one song can cover, the ultra complex rhythms that are played at nearly unbelievable speeds, and of course the total lack of cohesive melodies that leads many to call them "pointless noise". These elements are all then tied together by their method of songwriting - which involves taking the number of musical movements that progressive bands put into their 20 minute epics and condensing them down to 2-4 minute long doses of insanity.
5-0 out of 5 stars noise? please...
BOO HOO dillinger are teh untalented peoples! they make teh ugly solos at the same time! OH YEAH I KNOW TO PLAY TEH ARPEGGIOS ME MAKE POOPIE TEH DILLINGER PLAN GUYS! NOISE! RUN FOR YER LIVES!
5-0 out of 5 stars Math Metal at its best
While some people may be unable to understand the complexities that The Dillinger Escape Plan shows throughout their music, and simply write it off as "noise" or "soundtrack to a train wreck" they just are simply too ignorant to try to understand what is happening.

2-0 out of 5 stars Boring album..
The Dead Kennedy's had a pretty stellar discography with the classics fresh fruit and In god we trust under their belts. THey were young, fresh, and were one of the most interesting bands in the hardcore scene... and then Frankenchrist came out. Jello was always political on his albums but he had a sense of humor to it and some interesting music to go along with it, but frankenchrist, was little more than a series of speeches/rants with some boring guitar riffs behind it. While Jello does have some interesting things to say... they aren't on this album. Everything is exageratted so much that you stop taking him very seriousley and almost start thinking of him as some unremarkable conspiricy theorist. All and all this is a hard listen. Five minute rants with (on this album at least) an uninteresting, washed up jam band backign them doesn't make for good music.. it makes for a boring dissapointment from a previousley great band.. avoid this album and Bedtime for Democracy unless you are a fanatic. If not.. Stick with Fresh Fruit, Plastic Surgery Disasters/in god we trust, Live at the Deaf Club, and The b-sides collection give me convenience or give me death they are much more interesting listens.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic
Many narrowminded people will put this down ,Seriously read the lyrics and the sound is mastered. This was the last Dk release and controversial.get it punk.

5-0 out of 5 stars To all the non-believers...
As much flak as this album has recieved, it still is, in my opinion, the best DKs album.

5-0 out of 5 stars I can't believe it!
I've been on a C.O.C. binge lately. I drug out the old cassete tapes and decided to look for them on disc. It's a shame I can only find "animosity" on cd, It's probably their best recording but "Eye For An Eye" is just classic. It's the pre thrash, hardcore punk masterpiece that paved the way for DRI and all those other bands that had such an impact in the early 80's. C.O.C. was just that, dirty. I've sen them in 90's and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Old C.O.C. is something original, If you can get it, get it!

5-0 out of 5 stars COC at the Eagles Lodge in Denver 1986
This is one of the best crossover records! The others being CroMags "Best Wishes" and the Crumbsuckers "Life of Dreams" and S.O.D - Speak English or Die. I can say I was there in 1986 and saw COC at the local Eagles Lodge. No stage. No fights. Just a great pit and the low down creepy crawly mosh. We helped set up the gear on the floor and helped carry gear out to the van when the show was over. That's just what the shows were like back then.Hell we even cleaned up after the show so we could have more shows at the Eagles Lodge. Kids today have no idea what we would do to have shows. Yep I'm old but you can f*%# off hipster AFI, SOAD, Disturbed fan. We'd buy a bands merchendise or just pitch in and give them money so they'd have gas to get to the next town. For me Corrosion of Conformity ~ Animosity is a big part of the soundtrack of my life. Eye for an Eye is also a favorite but what could top the 7" record Six Songs with Mike Singing? Nothing! F*%$ing Nothing!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best
Hearing this album ten years ago changed the way I thought about music.I was listening to only punk at the time, and was handed this by a good friend. It opened more doors than I can explain. Crossover, metal, hardcore, there is really no label for this album that fits for me.Animosity is fast, brutal, intelligent, and was way ahead of its time.If you have tried other coc albums and have not been pleased, try this one.....Its one of my top three albums of all time. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great stuff!
Excellent record, better than just about anything else being put out these days.Good for fans of all kinds of ROCK music. The singer reminds me of '70s metal (in a good way) and the mix punk and metal guitar sounds is a great combination.Fans of Strung Out and Rise Against should like this.My favorites on this are Slowdown, Three Years, Know Your History, Poverty For All.Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Turning The Dark Days Bright
Ignite have really come back and surprised the world with their latest offering "Our Darkest Days". Seeing as how the band's last outing came back in 2001, it's hard to believe that after a five year absence they could come back and even make a dent in the music scene again. But their newest effort sees them strongly laying down the gauntlet and getting punk rock back to what it was all about to begin with. With screamo and metalcore so dominant over most of the underground music scene right now, "Our Darkest Days" is a breathe of fresh air in such a stale environment. From the inspiring lyrics, to the melodic song structures to the excellent musicianship, "Our Darkest Days" has all the ingredients of a Grade A punk rock or melodic hardcore record, and it's about time an album of this nature was unleashed on the public.
5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING
ignite are the best at what they do, old school hardcore mixed with melodic skate punk - this is the first album in 5 freking years!!! i rem seeing them back like in 2001 when they said thata new album was coming out SOON, wow did it take forever but it was worth the wait this is as good or maybe better then a place called home, and i really LOVEthat album, this was a surprise i didnt think they could top it but they did IMO, i cant wait to see them live later this month - IGNITE RULE!

This album is brilliant.I had no prior exposure to Mojo Nixon and limited Jello Biafra time, and this album has me hooked on both. One of the beatiful things about this album is that, unlike in Biafra's punk work, you can actually understand a lot of the lyrics (well, I can actually understand them, which means most people probably could). It fills my need for twangy, made for singing music and anti-authroitarian lyrics.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
This is just beautiful.Admittedly, I'm incredibly biased; I love Jello, his political views and the fact that he used such a traditionally "God, Apple Pie and the U S of A" genre to get them across. It's difficult for me to pick a favorite off this cd because everything is just great.I initially wanted the CD for "Will the Fetus be Aborted?" and was so pleasantly suprised.
5-0 out of 5 stars A whole lot of rip roarin' fun

5-0 out of 5 stars life in a moment
this is one of the only live albums id ever spring the payola for.the raw energy in the performances is just unbalievable.after seeing B.R. live about 6,7 years ago i was very pleased with the album for it brought back that show.this is definetly one of those albums you can listen to over and over driving everyone around you crazy unless there die hard fans too.id give this three thumbs up along the five stars.two of my thumbs and one from the guy standing next to me.a most definet worthy purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow
This CD is amazing.I give it four stars only because of certain songs that weren't included.5-0 out of 5 stars does any band sound better live than BR?
As someone who has listened to Bad Religion since they first came about, I am not only impressed by this album, I am obsessed with it. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars hyped up for a massive fall
SSD were one of those bands, every review in a magazine praised them as the ultimate punk band.as i live in england, the early eighties were spent listening to "discharge, rudimentary peni, chaos uk".not until around 83 did i sample the delights of american punk."bad brains, necros, soa and minor threat blew me away.when i finally heard SSD...i was let down, what makes it worse i bought "break it up"....nothing but crappy rock...

2-0 out of 5 stars I concur-- bring the original releases to CD
We need the original releases in chronological order. There's no sense including poor live recordings while omitting perfectly good studio tracks. "Power" is like a pizza with no tomato sauce.

2-0 out of 5 stars Bring back the original releases!
I loved SSD, flaws and all and was looking forward to this reissue. Sadly, this is quite a dissapointment, actually it is a mess. The original records in their original order of release made sense, you could chart the progress of one of Boston's greatest ever hardcore bands, this CD gives you little if any clue as what the fuss was about. I understand that bandleader Al Barile wanted this CD done in this way but I honestly can't imagine why. He has done his band a disservice by releasing this hodgepodge of poorly selected, badly programmed yet great "period" hardcore songs. I guess I'll just burn my vinyl to CD and hope that "they" see the error of their ways.Read more

Editorial Review

By far the most unrelievedly aggressive of this seminal D.C. foursome's seven albums, this 1993 collection assembles all the essential elements of Fugazi's aesthetic--strafing melodic tension, dynamic shifts, and unrestrained lyrical fury--and drives them into the psyche with nary a hint of sonic subtlety. That might sound one-dimensional, but somehow Ian MacKaye and company manage to wring a full spectrum of emotional impact out of that small patch of territory. From typically vociferous political plaints ("Smallpox Champion") to decidedly personal missives designed to provoke self-examination ("Great Cop"), the songs invariably cut to the bone. The highlight? "Cassavetes," which stutters and swells with remarkable grace, paying oblique tribute to John Cassavetes, an outsider director who was to Hollywood what Fugazi is to the music industry. Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars a very very very rare miss
I love fugazi they are one of my all time favorite bands and imo one of the most talented bands on this planet and that is why i am so dissapointed with this album the first two songs are ok but after that the album just goes downhill all the songs mainly just sound like straight forward verse chorus verse chorus boring songs that you can hear from any other indie band they dont at all show the bands creativity and usually progressive nature i give it two stars becuase it sais fugazi on it and that in itself is respectable but i think its safe to say that this is that one record that all bands put out that just isnt that good if you wanna listen to some mindblowing music check out red medicine and end hits

5-0 out of 5 stars IMO this is Fugazi's best album
Ive been listening to this album on and off since it first came out, and it still grows on me. Catharsis is the first word that comes to mind... moments of extreme raw power

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good album.
I own most fugazi albums, so why have I chosen to review this one first? simple: Im listening to it now, and it is the most aggressive album they have ever done (aka it will wake you up)from the start of facet squared, it is instantly recognizable that this is not a regular fugazi album, but more along the lines of a punk album, and that variation stays for most of the album. public witness program has a catchy chorus that sounds like a combination of the minutemen (in terms of lyrics) and minor threat. smallpox champion is one of the rare instances of Guy writing straightforward political lyrics. Great Cop is the predecessor to Back to Base on Red Medicine, while Walken's Sydrome is just Guy rocking out.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Might as well get this one too...
If you loved the first 4 Boot CDs like I did, you should get this as well.Great collection of street punk, psychobilly, skacore and reggae.

4-0 out of 5 stars another good compilation from Hellcat
Hellcat Records is definantly my favorite record label and I like, probably, most of the bands His label has produced. With that being said, this compilation is good, though I liked Give 'Em The Boot III and IV better.Either way if you like good punk and especially if you're new to the Hellcat label, there is no better way to dive in than to get these compilations, though I wouldn't recommend this one first off.
3-0 out of 5 stars No reason to buy this if you know the bands already
I personally have no reason to buy this cd because I know and like most of the bands on this comp already. There is no denying the quality of this music--hellcat bands are always great as they are hand picked by mr. armstrong himself.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE DEAD SHALL F*CKING RISE!!!!
Whaddaya know another really underrated awesome album. This is a pretty interesting band because as others mentioned we definitely have a supergroup on our hands. The band is Oscar Garcia doing the vox, Jesse Pintado who went to Napalm Death (is it a coincidence that once he joined ND they got A LOT better?) two guys from Morbid Angel, Dave Vincent doing the bass of course and then PETE SANDOVAL!YES! PETE IS HERE!!!Geez, that should be more than enough for you to buy this but let's get into some more details shall we?
5-0 out of 5 stars Original, seminal, influential, essential, and bah-roo-tal!
Napalm Death and Bolt Thrower are often credited for being grindcore's godfathers, but Terrorizer were every bit as responsible for making and popularizing this type of music. In other words, if Napalm Death (who debuted in 1987) and Bolt Thrower (1988) planted grindcore's seeds, then Terrorizer watered them and helped them to grow and prosper. Thus, all three bands were at the root of grindcore's creation.
