5-0 out of 5 stars Helped me get through some tough times....
This particular Black Flag album has gotten me through some really tough times in the past. All I have to do is put it in my car stereo, start screaming the lyrics along with Hank, and everything feels better afterwards. Have you ever been in an awful relationship or been screwed over? Instead of going to a shrink listen to this album. It's worked for over 15 years for me. Try it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Grrreat!
Black Flag's best album.Rollins writes half of the songs!Must have now.

5-0 out of 5 stars black flags experiments in stoner college rock.=
black flags experiments in stoner college rock (well now its called alternative rock)when i first heard this album i was only 15 i had never gottin stoned or went to college .so i first take on this album was it was very experimental.coming from the band that did MY WAR (the only other album i have heard at that time)I was very obsessed with this album.it was very color full .alot of out of this world guitar playing (kind of loose heavy)the vocals where all running through effects like massive echo reverb(not the typical screaming).the bass was solid but jazzy.the drums where solid(kind of like that bonham sound)there was all sorts of weird guitar overdubs with incendental noise stuff. so at the time i just liked it for basically being different than any other record out there.but some years later i listened to this album at a college stoner party andhit me .this was there little college rock experiment of an album.it all made sence(well things do when you are stoned) but anyways this is a very highly recommended album from the flag . but if you are still in the damaged phase this will seem lame.but for me this is probably there best album to listen to loud .its one of those louder is better albums .not because its an old recording but because it was ment to be heard loud so when you are at a college keg party you will get the party really going ..a litte thing also everysong on this album is like verse chorus verse chorus.so its with the chorus parts you can sing along to.sing along to "bastard in love" or "annhilate this week"or "loose nut" and espically "modern man" at the time it made those violent femmes/replacements/remcollegerock partys really seem lame!!! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars I don't get it
A fellow music fan told me to give this a listen. I hated it
5-0 out of 5 stars Emergency & I is the pinnacle of 90's indie
After thinking about it for a while, i realized something. The Dismemberment Plan is really the perfect band. They tried as hard as possible to stay away from the muck that is the major label music industry, yet they were pretty well known and easily accessible. They were one of those bands that someone would tell you about, and youd buy their cd, and you would never regret it. They give you the feeling that you discovered something wonderful, and in a way, it belongs to you.
4-0 out of 5 stars this album makes me laugh.... in a really good way
i like this CD a lot. i downloaded it a few weeks ago, i know that i'm seriously behind the times. this is a band where the vocals make/break the experience for the listener. i've read a lot of the reviews here and they're pretty dichotomous: you either love or hate this album. the singer can be anywhere from coy to well... coy i guess. the lyrics all seem like they were delivered with a sort of smile and an unspoken request not to take them too seriously.i think that people CAN take music too seriously sometimes as well as art. i don't understand how someone could listen to a song that proclaims a lack of sex is going to lead to a nervous breakdown (girl o'clock) and still say the lyrics are "pretentious" and "poorly-written". musicians are people, they want to have fun, they have a sense of humor. this band is really unique, extremely fun and what can i say... i think we all know the Plan makes you want to open that car door in a freeway traffic jam and put some moves on the other gaping drivers.

2-0 out of 5 stars Sweet Jesus...
I am an open minded guy when it comes to music. I go for mostly death metal and grindcore of all sorts, but this also branches off my interest in technical hardcore, such as Drowningman, The Dillinger Escape Plan, The End, and Every Time I Die. However, this album was a disappointment to me. The clean vocals are annoying as heck on this CD, and it tends to be steering more into a mainstream sound. It's kinda disappointing if you're mostly into "Last Night In Town" era ETID. Overall, if you're fan of technical hardcore/metalcore, or older metalcore before the explosion (circa 2003), stay away from this and stick to their older stuff. If you can stand the clean vocals and the "party lyrics", well, you can get it, I guess. Whatever.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's damn good
For the first few times I listened to this album, I wasn't hooked. To be honest, I hated it. But after pushing through the whole album about 6 or 7 times, I loved it. It's different but the hooks are there for sure. You just have to listen to it a few times.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hot damn!
Last year, Every Time I Die released the fourth album of their career, the follow up to 2003's "Hot Damn." Some music fans probably think that "Gutter Phenomenon" (which was named album of the year by "Revolver" magazine) isn't very easy to listen to. Some might be frustrated that it doesn't flow more fluidly, or that the singer isn't very multi-faceted. But, on the contrary, most mathcore fans will find this disc's constant, punching, groovey, Sabbath-y riffs, pounding/thumping drums, throat straining vocals, and lurching/shifting rhythms as familiar as church bells. But "Gutter Phenomenon" does have a few defining characteristics. First of all, Keith's vocals are a lot higher pitched than some other noisecore bands (like Norma Jean). Second, upon further inspection (once you listen closely), you'll realize that some of these songs (like the first track, "Apocalypse Now And Then") have real, clean singing. And lastly, a lot of these songs have actual, honest-to-goodness hooks! Highlights include the catchy, staccato beat of "Kill The Music," the very fast and heavy "Tusk And Temper," "Champed At The Bit" (where Glassjaw screamer Daryl makes a cameo), "Guitarred And Feathered" which is brimming with breakdowns, and the unexpectedly rhythmic album closer, "Pretty Dirty," which is complete with stop-start guitars and a very catchy hand clap pattern. So, once you know what to expect from this album, you should definitely realize this is some pretty damn fine hard/mathcore. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Not the same Zack de la Rocha you're used to...but still awesome nonetheless
Before Zack de la Rocha conked heads with Tom Morello and created one of the greatest bands of all time, he was the frontman of a small hardcore band in California. They only released one studio record, and EP, and this is it.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Covers Cover Perhaps too Well
Between the Buried and Me had much success from their last release "Alaska" but this, their fourth release is very different. They take the many musical influences they have from Depeche Mode to Metallica and form and squish it all together into a group of cover songs that sound very much to me like the original versions. Yes, the cover songs are so close, too close to the originals, that it seems almost like the band has no sound of its own. Between the Buried and Me fans won't find much of the band's trademark "Screamo" sound here. While "The Anatomy Of" is worth a listen, it's not a must buy, because the covers cover perhaps too well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Better than you'd think...
I'm normally not into cover albums, especially by a young band that should have more original music under their belt before resorting to the contractual obligation album. But these guys are talented and this album impressed me. The Anatomy Of is a nod to the bands that influenced BTBAM, and the covers are impressively dead-on, especially given the range of styles and vocal imitations. This is also a band unafraid of losing punk points - there are unironic covers here of everything from Pink Floyd to Counting Crows to Queen (Bicycle Race, no less), as well as somewhat more expected covers of bands like Pantera, Sepultura, and Metallica. The song selection is an interesting look at what makes this band tick, plus any band covering Faith No More and Depeche Mode is okay in my book.

2-0 out of 5 stars *sigh*
I didn't truly see anything special about this item. After listening to it I decided that it really wasn't worth the money. However, I do have to give them credit for doing a great job sounding like the original vocalists (except for select songs). I didn't see any creativity in this album and it looks like it was just a way to get a little cash. Covers like Atreyu's "You Give Love A Bad Name" showed some creativity (regardless of whether that was my favorite cover or not). I would not recommend this album, but I most certainly would recommend their other albums (my favorite being Alaska). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I usually don't like Bad Religion, but.....
....this is one of the best punk albums (er, collections of albums, EPs and comp tracks) that I've ever heard.I bought it because I'd heard the songs "Bad Religion" and "Into the Night" on the radio.Lo and behold, I buy this disc and find that I like every single track on here, which honestly I never thought I'd say about a BR album. If you can get your hands on this, buy this.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best BR cd ever
this cd is music from the time when Bad Religion was playing hard hitting hardcore. But it is surpising how different all the songs are from each.At times this cd is as hard as Black Flag and other times as light as Pennywise. Songs 1-14 are the songs off thier first cd "How Could Hell Be Any Worse".These are the most hardcore songs on the cd.These are of the best songs Bad Religion ever recorded, including "We're only gonna die", "Fu*k Armageddeon this is Hell", "Faith in God", and "Eat Your Dog".After song 14 the album then spans BR's EPs.Song 15 is their theme song simplely titled "Bad Religion".By that song the cd has slowed down a bit. Then comes my personal favorite song "Slaves".It has great vocals and a nice melody meanwhile staying true to Hardcore speed, they even have a little jam at the end.So overall this is a excellent cd. It has everything speed, rage, and even some good melody.Pounding drums, a rough dual guitar sound, huge riffs, and excellent lyrics.Greg's voice is intenese going through 28 songs barking about religion, ignorrence, and suicide. The only downside is they repeat a lot of tracks over again as demo or alternative versions.Ignoring that little flaw the cd is perfection.

5-0 out of 5 stars The same set list than How could hell be any worse'04
Well I bought the remastered version of How could hell be any worse that been released in April! The sound is really raw, energic and agressive, it has an old-school flavor that's not on others Bad Religion album (well all the material on this had been released before suffer!) but the whole thing is great from the beginning to the end! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I've got the answer to the title- if this didn't exist.
Into the Unknown would have been nice here as well, but I'll just review the compilation that there is here. Each song blows me away, with catchy hooks, stabby claws, and Greg Graffin's voice delivers perfectly, while Brett, Jay Bentley, Pete Finestone and Jay Ziskrout throw out a set of blazingly incredibly fast yet melodic songs.
2-0 out of 5 stars early Bad Religion
The recording quality is poor and it just isn't the same as 'adult' Bad Religion.

5-0 out of 5 stars classic punk rock
This is a good example of some good ol punk music. I really like this Bad Religion compilation album, the songs are fast and get straight to the point, plus there are like 28 songs on here, even though some are repeats but sound slightly different, such as there being three versions of the song Bad Religion. I especially love the song "Were Only Gonna Die" because Sublime covered it on their 40 Oz to Freedom CD and I love Sublime. If you like fast classic punk music then buy this, it is awesome. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of their finest moments.
After the very successful "Stranger than Fiction" album, Bad Religion came to release perhaps their best album so far and a true gem in the musical scene. Fifteen songs in the usual Bad Religion style with fast tempos, catchy melodies and singing , and the very caustic lyrics by singer Greg Graffin. It's truly amazing to hear Bad Religion play in such great shape using all their energy and freshness providing a very pleasant listening experience while also spreading their political stigma and raising the middle finger to all those who deserve it. Some of the highlights of the album are "The Streets of America", "Spirit Shine", "Ten in 2010", and my favorite from this album "Pity the Dead" where we're faced with a critical dilemma on why we pity the dead looking at all the living. Overall this is a very pleasant album to listen to, an album that can accompany you through almost any activity you choose to do. Friends of punk rock or any other open-minded fans of good music will definitely find this album pleasing and will enjoy each and every second of it.

Well firstly scrap the last review i gave for the process of belief,I now love that song epiphany. This is the 3rd Bad Religion I've brought within the past 4 days! That must tell you something. This is another classic BR album. Sure it sounds a bit different to the other 2 I've got: Generator and Process of Belief but thats not a bad thing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wait this isn't punk rock...
I bought this with what little graduation money I was given after escaping high school, and was initially surprised by the overall poppiness of this album. But who cares? It's one of the funniest albums you can buy and also has the Vandals best cover.

2-0 out of 5 stars EH-
Semi-alright punk band. For the most part the majority
5-0 out of 5 stars The Culmination Of What The Vandals Do Best
In my opinion this is the best Vandals album to date. Their musical split-personality really irritates me because while they can produce some of the most cleverly written, witty, melodic punk songs around, so often the Evil-Less-Talented Side of the Vandals comes out and their musical skill seems to go by the wayside in favour of a more "hardcore" angst-driven sound. So many of their albums feature both types of songs, but Hitler Bad, Vandals Good contains only the well-written ones. It is upbeat, ridiculous fun from start to finish and shows why the Vandals hold the title of being the Fathers of Dumb-Arse Punk (I am an Aussie afterall) that the younger bands like Guttermouth try to emulate. Highlights include I Know, Huh?, My Girlfriend's Dead and An Idea For A Movie. ... Read more

I was greatly saddened to hear the news that the only original member of the band, bassist Dom, had finally left Throwdown to focus on other things. just when the band had finally reached the moment and popularity they had always been struggling for, he decide to leave. Oh well................maybe he'll be back.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful album full of emotion.
The sound on this is pretty much Post Rock styled music with spoken word vocals (like Mogwai) and emotional screaming. There is truly no band like these guys and this may just be their finest work. If you like bands like Mogwai, Godspeed You Black Emperor, and Explosions In The Sky, then you'll probably like these guys quite a bit.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Most Devastating and Beautiful Records You're Likely to Ever Hear.
For over a decade, Envy has been creating and crossing their own boundaries in regards to what is possible within emotive hardcore. In 2001 with All the Footprints You've Ever Left..., they provided listeners with the chaos of Orchid and a certain melodic quality that would have previously seemed more suited for post rock or indie; all of this done with astonishing success. Building upon this unique quality was their 2003 release, A Dead Sinking Story, which found Envy at the highest artistic level of their career. Much of the chaos that had been present on their prior releases had been replaced by the more quiet and somber moments that began to surface on their previous record. This, of course, did not take away from the sheer emotion of the music, greatly heightened by Tetsuya Fukagawa's passionate vocal delivery. In fact, in many ways, the emotion was taken to new levels, which more than ever would lend itself to their most recent album, Insomniac Doze.

This is one of the best AFI releases (along with Very Proud of Ya', Art of Drowning, Sing the Sorrow). It is much more original than the All Hallows ep. I also like Davey's screaming better on this release better than on the next two (Black Sails, All Hallows). I'll rate the songs individually.

i am a huge afi fan and i think this ep is as good as if not better than the all hallow's ep.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pick this one up!
Botch have such a great original sound, though some people can draw comparisons to the new norma jean (which is still great), and the dillinger escape plan, something about botch just blows TDEP out of the water. Botch though probably assumed to be "just another pretentious noise band" or something of the like, has true talent in the metal world. They are one of the, and yes i would dare to say, pioneers of this brand of chaotic metal.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Anthology of Dead Ends
Sadly, I didn't hear about botch until after they had broken up, but after seeing guitarist dave knudson play live (with minus the bear) I knew that I had to listen to some of their stuff. This was the first cd of theirs I listened to and it just blew me away. This cd is amazing.Although yes, it is very short (and the song names are weird), it is still all encompassing and it is a great introduction into Botch's music. The first song, Spaim, is just a short 14 second intro and I don't really care too much for it.Next up is Japam, which is probably my favorite song on the album. This song is heavy yet melodic and the guitar just screams technical throughout the whole song. The same can be said for the next two songs, Framce and Vietmam, and although I would describe them similarly to Japam, all three songs are very different from each other. The one thing they share in common is that they are all very excellent songs.Afghamistam is the longest and slowest of all the songs, but even though its slow I still think that it is a great song.It just hits you in a certain way that the other heavier songs can't.The last song is Micaragua, and this song starts out by building up with a massive drum solo, and then just when you would expect it, it gets extremely heavy.Overall the cd is very good, and even though it is short I would recommend it to anyone as an ample introduction to the music of Botch.Give it a listen, I'm sure you won't be disappointed (if you can find it, amazon doesn't like to keep it in stock).

5-0 out of 5 stars Swan song of one of the finest noiscore/metalcore bands
I don't know how they do it...but Botch are simply incredible, being instantaneously catchy and technical with their amazing musical chops and songwriting abilities. I'm going to keep this review short just like this album...if you're into or just getting into the "scene" and haven't heard Botch do yourself a favor and pick up "We are the Romans" and "Anthology of Dead Ends", you won't regret it. Easily some of the best noisecore ever made. ... Read more

I feel sorry for the band Grade and this great CD getting low ratings and reviews by illiterate American Idol viewers. If you are a fan of post-hardcore/hardcore/"emo" then this CD should be a part of your collection. You may say it sounds like everything else out there today but let me remind you that this band pre-dates most of them and they were amazing.

Punk O Ramo Vol. 1 is the best period you don't even have to hear all of the other ones. You can tell this one is just the most original because it's the first...duh! Some as they call themselves "punk" bands of day suck. They just suck like New Found Glory and Story of The Year, NFG has basically nothing but saying things that have no point, and Story of The Year are basically just covering songs off of Good Charlotte's The Young and The Hopeless. Trust me on that one. Get it and you'll see EXACTLY what I mean. But anywayz, Punk O Rama Vol. 1 is the best of all. You HAVE to have it in your punk collection!!!!!

      Editorial Review

Led by Los Angeles punk legend Rikk Agnew, the Adolescents lived up to their name, bawling out song after angst-ridden song about how much everything--mom, dad, the cops, and, most likely, you--totally sucked. Admittedly, that was nothing special for the scene that spawned them, but Agnew's jaw-dropping array of guitar tricks vaulted the Adolescents near to the top of the heap.Equal parts Dick Dale, Johnny Thunders, and Chuck Berry, Agnew didn't flaunt virtuoso moves, but the riffs he laid down on classics like "I Hate Children," "Wrecking Crew," and "Section 8" were instrumental in creating America's first mosh pits. 5-0 out of 5 stars the Debut album from a very great band
I thought that this debut album from the Adolescents was pretty good and should be great for newbies. I thought they were a great band (even without Tony Cadena, they were great) this was a band that had really evolved. their next album Brats in Battalions was a little slower and Balboa Fun Zone (if you weren't paying attention) had two singers.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is O.C. not L.A.
The Ad's were from Orange County not L.A. The two places were a totally different life experience. I went to high school with these guys and that's when they wrote these songs. The base player, Steve Soto, went to El Dorado High, the same school that Mike and James from Agent Orange went to. The music was inspired from the f@#ked up mind set of everyone in O.C. back then. AO's song, El Dorado, was a statement of frustration at the mindless people around them in their school. These were the days when jocks would beat you up for being a punk. The Ad's wrote and played with a fury that I had never seen before. Seeing them play at parties and shows was incredible madness. It was glorious. Being an adolescent myself at the time, and having the same experiences that these guys were going through made this music even more powerfull. It was a drug. It was dangerous. It was punk at it's purest, at it's best. I saw these guys play in Seattle last month and even though it's been 25 years since I first heard these songs, they still gave me goose bumps. This is punk rock. This is music. All the new punk is crap when compared to this.

5-0 out of 5 stars L.A. had the cream of punk bands
i remember listening to "someone`s gunna get their head kicked in" for maybe the 80th time and thinking the adolescents are ok but far from the best band on the album.and now today i listen to this adolescents album all of the time, "kids in the black hole" and "ameoba"....thats what i call music.. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Bad Brains at full throttle
The Bad Brains: four rastas,ex-jazz-fusion musicians, turned into one of the most powerful and creative punk bands of all time. Some claim that they were the inventors of the Hardcore genre.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Originators
The originators of Hardcore Punk in 1979, come together in Amsterdam for 1987's live album recording. The music is played as fast and furious as ever as HR and the crew play classic after classic. Comprimised of material between '79 and '87, classics such as "Right Brigade", "Re-Ignition", "Coptic Times", and "Pay to Cum" are all on the same disc, and live at that. Hardcore never sounded better. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Oxeneers
Simply put, "Oxeneers" and "This is Meant to Hurt You", TAAS's previous EP, are epic. Both CD's possess a charged sound that stands apart from the clichd hard-metal-mathcore garbage that has reared its head via Myspace's unwelcome infestation of a once-sacred music scene. These arms are snakes have a musical presence (both live and recorded) that proves both refreshing and overwhelming. These Arms Are Snakes is leagues above anything that Botch ever dreamed up: layered and simple, poetic and depraved + driving and jaded. It's my favorite as of now.

2-0 out of 5 stars High expectations, low yields
I was expecting so much from this band after their EP came out, and I couldn't wait for the full length to follow it up. With intensity and fury to match The Icarus Line's Mono, and the sort of complexity that only ex-members of Botch can provide, I was sure this band was going places.
4-0 out of 5 stars a little like jesus lizard on some songs
