3-0 out of 5 stars RUN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF THIS CD!
Alright here's the deal, I bought this cd with an open mind.I understand black sabbath switched lead singers and so did ac/dc and alot of other bands and they still put out great music with both frontmen.Im not saying its not possible, it just didnt happen with the misfits.i bet with sabbath and ac/dc other bands members helped with writing the music, but with the fits, glenn wrote ALL OF IT!the lyrics and the music...he even taught some of the members how to play their instruments.so guess what happens when glenn leaves?uh-oh...now the band has to write music for itself and try and stand on its own two feet.this stuff isnt terrible, there are a couple decent tracks on here, but its a totally different band with a totally different sound.i hope glenn will forgive me for buying this...it sux.

5-0 out of 5 stars This album is awsome
i bought this album and it rocks. the new singer is awsome, but not as awsome as Danzig. I Luv The Misfits, their lineup now dosen't sound good. they have jerry and robo but no doyle that guy from black flag.
3-0 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings
Wooh-oooh, woooh-ooh-ooh!This band has a distinct, however repetetive sound. One to rock out to with other people (ie, not by yourself in your room).Highlights include the title track as well as "From Hell They Came."Overall the album is catchy, but after it's all over you might not remember how any of the songs go (only one or two measures of the choruses for each song), but you'll remember that while it was happening you were having fun.Overall, this album can wake you up at any time of the day, but I think it's probably more fun to be a band member than a fan. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Debut Tiger Army Albulm a MUST-HAVE!
One of the most original bands out of there! This is their first released albulm with all their classical songs! THIS MUST BE IN EVERY TA FAN's COLLECTION!

5-0 out of 5 stars Yay for Nick 13
This cd is wonderful, it's always fun to just put it in the cd player in the car and slap the steering wheel in time with the drums or stand up bass whichever one you prefer to do more. The songs are superb. Who doesn't love early Tiger Army? Yes, with their other two releases they progressed but there's nothing better than the old TA that I fell in love with. Buy this cd, not only to support the band but to actually know where the music started and how it developed over the years (along with who first helped Nick 13 start the band and make this wonderful 'billy music)

4-0 out of 5 stars going strong...
well... i only gave it 4 stars, as i have really yet to run across something i felt deserved a 5 star (5 stars being "perfect"...good luck).this is a very good album, and a strong debut for tiger army.of course they have now turned out three albums, and released their early stuff on ep as well.this album is a little bit more raw than their other ful lengths.this is not necessarily a bad thing.they mix up the "psychobilly" styles quite well... a creative belnd of punk rock, rockabilly, 50's style rock and roll (the roots of rockabilly, and punk rock), and even some country influences. favorite tracks are "devil girl", and "outlaw heart".which is odd, cause i regard most country music as garbage, yet tiger army blends thier influences well, and i am particularly fond of their more country influenced tracks.by all means, if you are remotely interested in this style of music, you could pick up any of their discs, and you most likely wouldn't be disappointed.the later two full length albums are a bit better produced, and are definitely cleaner mixes, but are good in their own right as well. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Duh!
Pedants would be forced to admit that this band is class. They're awesome live and are still trying to keep it real despite the detractors who want to criticise everything these guys do! Suicidal have provided just about everything to music and never get the appreciation.
4-0 out of 5 stars Suicidal Tendencies - 'Prime Cuts:Best Of' (Sony)
Well, what do you know?I was rummaging through some CD's I haven't heard in awhile and I came across this.'Prime Cuts' features tunes from five out of eight(at the time of this release,anyway)S.T. albums, plus two new songs "Beserk" and "Feed The Addiction".I've never been all THAT huge of a Suicidal fan,but I've always liked some of their better known material, here like "Institutionalized",their total ass kick-in-the-groin "Pledge Your Allegiance" and "How Will I Laugh Tomorrow".An added bonus to this disc is the art that appears on the back cover.Top of the line punk/thrash.Check it out.A should-have.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very good compilation to start with...
This compilation is fine to give you a glimpse into ST's world and to see how their music and approach changed all over the years. From thrash-punk to heavy-metal, ST delivered many albums of great music, especially the triad JOIN THE ARMY, HOW WILL I LAUGH TOMORROW? and LIGHTS, CAMERA, REVOLUTION, their second, third and fourth releases, that deserve a place into the greatest albums of thrash metal, next to METALLICA, SLAYER, ANTHRAX and many more. In addition to the regular songs, you have new 97' recordings of "Join the army" (called "JOIN THE NEW ARMY"), and "Possessed to skate" (called "GO SKATE!"), and two new brand songs, "BERSERK" and "FEEDING THE ADDICTION".

Editorial Review

Hatebreed's unrepentant heaviness puts other Ozzfest alumni to shame. The Connecticut-bred quintet combine elements of old-school hardcore with death-metal intensity for a metal-core sound that, with melodic guitar moments and double-kick drums, finds them equally suited for tours with Entombed and Danzig. 5-0 out of 5 stars A lesson in metallic hardcore
If there is one thing that most people don't understand about hardcore, it's the role of musicianship in the genre. The only important aspects in hardcore are the messages, the conviction of the band, and the band's integrity. Hardcore remains more relavant than ever because so many people see that this music leaves no room for posturing and bull. It's a genre in which the message and delivery are just as important as the competence of it's musicians (Mike Judge couldn't play drums to save his life, and no one ever accused Minor Threat of musical prowess, but each are legendary for their level of intensity and conviction).
1-0 out of 5 stars As Many IQ Points as notes
There is nothing remotely heavy and/or musical about this band. Every song uses the same three powerchords, the same drum lines, the same taking-a-dump vocal histrionics, the same lyrics of no substance and one subject.
4-0 out of 5 stars Skull crushing
One of the first things you should notice about Hatebreed's junior release, "Perseverance," is that Jamey's vocals are a lot louder and more violent this time around. His growls are now full-fledged bellows. Add this on top of a skull crushing rhythm section and the result is an album which is easily one of the most unrepentantly heavy metal releases of the new millennium. "Perseverance" is full of steam rolling riffs, stomping drums, and huge breakdowns. But there's a little more to this record than just volume, because some of the songs (like the shout-along chorus on "I Will Be Heard") manage to be kind of catchy, and a few of Jamey's lyrics (i.e. "It's our struggles that define us") are actually rather intelligent and thought provoking. The album storms out of the starting gate with "Proven," which has a pounding rhythm, face-melting guitars, and some of Jamey's heaviest yells. Later on, "You're Never Alone" has a machine gun rhythm; "Unloved" is an explosive scorcher with cannon-like, cascading riffs; "Hollow Ground" and "Remain Nameless" begin with a bit of feedback before segueing into a jackhammer beat; and "Smash Your Enemies" has a blisteringly fast riff and thumping bass drums. The last song worth mentioning is track eleven, "Final Prayer," which features two guest guitar solos by Slayer's own Kerry King. All in all, "Perseverance" may take a while to get warmed up to, but if you like hardcore or super heavy metal, this record will be your wet dream. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars not their best work...
was kinda dissappointed with this one in comparison to walk among us and collection 1.who killed marilyn and amaerican nightmare are so-so songs...some of them are just plain bad.he likes to re-hash songs too; notice static age and tv casualty and alot of other songs are thrown around plenty on different albums.i would say for the casual listener pick up collection 1 first (the best in my opinion) and then grab walk among us and static age (mainly for last caress and in the doorway) and you should be good to go.

5-0 out of 5 stars much better than static age!
this is definately a much more attractive of a listen than static age for many reasons...it is more raw, has a better track listing, and i would assume this is what they really sounded like on vinyl and what not. i would definately pick halloween, where eagles dare, american nightmare, and who killed marylan over the songs they were replaced by one static age....if you are too much of a tight wad to get this and static age, get collection 2 and this...well along with earth AD and walk among us...collection 1 is a good investment too!..i only recommend the graves era to misfits die hards and ones who already know danzig.

5-0 out of 5 stars I remember halloween!
Tthe misfits are an awesome punk band. They are the ones who started punk! In fact, LOB is their best album ever. The main singer is Glenn Danzig, who has a badass voice, probably the most badassed one ever.

5-0 out of 5 stars INSANE
Alright, so after seeing Bury Your Dead destroy the second stage at Ozzfest 2004, I had one thought that stuck with me, in my mind, for the rest of the day: "f*cking BUY A BURY YOUR DEAD album as soon as you get home!! And, sure as hell, I did, and while BYD on record doesn't quite match the sheer hardcore insanity of a BYD show, it does make for a brutal listening experience, which will no doubt pump up any hardcore fan...
5-0 out of 5 stars best metalcore/hxc CD
This is the best metalcore/hxc CD out right now.If you dont buy cover your tracks, your gay.......

3-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Breakdowns
I like the breakdowns a lot, but when they're not playing a breakdown... they lose whatever energy they gained from that breakdown. The guitars are just really boring when they aren't playing breakdowns. The drumming is really good, but I don't think the vocals are all that great. As far as lyrics go, this is probably the most emo metalcore band you're ever going to hear. I don't think the lyrics fit the music very well at all. "Tough Guy Hardcore"? Please... the only thing "tough" about this is the way the vocals are performed... the lyrics are about as far from "tough" as you can get. This album is worth it if you're really into breakdowns I guess. Download it first. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Album
Simply put, this is a great album.I found these guys on MySpace and got the CD, and really enjoyed it.They are just straight up good old fashioned punk rock.Yet their vocals are quite good and make it fun to listen to, but also retain that punk rock urgency that is missing from so many albums.Great album for fans of just good driving punk rock.

4-0 out of 5 stars These guys are tired of crappy 'punk' too!
There seems to only be a few bands left that still give a damn about having energy and writing good punk rock. The Loved Ones are among that group, and this CD proves that punk isn't quite dead.A straightforward punk sound a la faster Social D, with loud n' scratchy vocals somewhat reminiscent of Hot Water Music (but not as low and gruff, Dave can hit notes better) or Brendan from Lawrence Arms. There are only a few songs on here I could skip over, but the entire album is a great listen. For fans of the above-mentioned bands or anything of the sort.A great pick up for when all that monotonous 4/4 tempo, clean channel "indie" music is bumming you out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome

1-0 out of 5 stars Virushan is a retard
Atreyu is horrible. Their screamer sounds like he gets kicked in the balls on a daily basis and their smooth vocalist sounds like a little girl. Now, Virushan is harping on awesome bands like Kreator and Queensryche (ok, they were awesome once) and he says these guys are good. I hate him.

5-0 out of 5 stars why all the hatin?
why do so many ppl hate this band? i mean this is the 2nd most brutal and heavy band on earth. 1st is slipknot. 3rd wuld be trivium. this makes horrible soft rock groups like kreator, dimmu borgir, and slayer look like those bands almost though. the lyrics r passionate, not whiney like kreator thank god. its on mtv so its good not like unknown junk like queensryche or kreator(srry but i just hate kreator so much). this is a masterpiece that every ppl shuld own. forget kreator.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Improvement; A Beautiful Piece of Work.
What Atreyu's first album lacked, "The Curse" has in ample quantity. This is a striking, pretty album, with a vampiric story behind the words and the screams. In all honesty, Atreyu is a band that defies categorization.Their words burn the soul of the listener.Their music scorches you to your very essence.Listened to from the beginning, this album is tragically poetic and something that changes you for the better.

Editorial Review

"Ice Cold Ice," in which Bob Mould rails against "barren lands and barren minds" and Grant Hart falls in on the supercatchy chorus, exemplifies the Hüsker Dü career development that peaks on this final album. Without sacrificing the emotional intensity of earlier albums, the Minneapolis trio beefs up the guitar-based melodies and sneaks in pop songcraft in lieu of the old fast-and-loud hardcore style. On this 1987 double album, as usual, guitarist Mould supplies the personal songs ("Standing in the Rain"), while drummer Hart remains more broadly political ("Tell You Why Tomorrow"). Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Final Release
That this record gets better listener reviews than Flip Your Wig drives me crazy.Yes, there are some very catchy pop tinged songs on this release that I really do like but this record as a whole totally lacks the intensity of the SST works.Am I just a bitter fan who wanted to keep the band small and non-corporate?-Maybe, okay almost certainly.-I do understand that bands evolve and there sound changes ( I feel your pain Metallica fans!) with each trip to the studio but this recording sounds totally phoned in and forced. No, it's not terrible but clearly is the work of a band well on there way to imploding. If you are a fan you should certainly have this in your Husker Du library but if you are not familiar with the band start at Zen Arcade and work your way to this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the top bands of the 80s (Essential) (If not THE top...)
Husker Du was the greatest power post punk band of the 80s.They had a rapid, loud, searing sound like no one else. With songs like Ice cold Ice and She floated Away, HD defined their own sound in spades and waves of power chords. Both Mr. Grant and Mr. Mould combined to create incredible waves of guitars wrapped around and through Ramones-influenced short, frenetic songs that lyrically scaled poetic heights other bands just couldn't reach.
5-0 out of 5 stars "Familiar places that we turned into gardens"
Warehouse:Songs and Stories was the last Husker Du studio album. It was released in 1987.They are one of my all-time favorite bands and they seemed to get better and better with each album they made.In Warehouse they left their fans with a double-album filled with great tracks and absolutely no fillers. It's unfortunate that they broke up seemingly so soon, but both Grant Hart and Bob Mould continued with excellent solo records (I especially recommend Intolerance by Hart and Workbook and Black Sheets of Rain by Mould) as well as new bands Nova Mob and Sugar. Here is the warehouse-full of awesome tracks offered on this album:

Editorial Review

Converge duck all the rules of hardcore and heavy metal and out of a loophole comes a new beginning. These guys live on a sonic continent near the street screech of Candiria and the fluttering high-speed precision of Dillinger Escape Plan, sounding something like Slayer backed by armies of curb-cracking skateboarders instead of hell's minions. Their uptempo doom is shaded with downbeat indie-rock tones instead of infernal majesty, and there's even a hint of British-style shoe gazing on the slow five or six seconds of this CD. Mostly what you get from this 10-year anniversary release is a frightening debacle of giant objects hurtling over your head, while impassioned but utterly distorted vocals fend off certain destruction with little pleas for humanity. It's an unpredictable and elegant triumph, softened to offer catharsis rather than total brutal assault. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Here we go...
I've been avoiding writing a review for this album for some time now, in fear of not being able to convey the wonder it is. How can you put a mind-altering masterpiece like this into words? A number of wildly different adjectives can be used to describe this album, such as frightening, beautiful, horrific, majestic, chaotic, etc. One undeniable word for it; passionate. Every last note of this record is shrieked, pounded, and hammered as though it is the bandmembers' last chance in this world to truly express themselves. The conviction of this band is astonishing, unlike any other band I've heard in my 27 years. I can say with absolute certainty that this album with never leave my personal top 10, all genres included. I never really gave hardcore music a chance until listening to this album, and since then, few in the genre have lived up to my first impression. Every fan of heavy music should at least hear this album. I'm almost too personally attached to this record to give it an honest review, but music has always been a subjective topic. The title track alone is worth stacks of inferior CDs...

1-0 out of 5 stars people like this????
everyone seems to think that this is a REALLY good metal album. i may not be giving it enough of a chance or something, but in my opinion this album is just irritating. they seem to have no concept sync and rythm. the vocalist sounds like he's stuck in a large metal tube that makes his voice both grating and hollow. amazon went as far as comparing this band to Slayer, but this band isn't good enough to lick the sweat from Kerry King's butt cheak. If you like Slayer, and you hate crap, then you won't like this cd either.

5-0 out of 5 stars As You Can See From the Other Reviews...
This is the real deal. O where to begin. "Jane Doe" is easily the most innovative, complex, poetic, brutal, and flat out craziest album in heavy music today. No where will you hear anything similar to Converge's trademark sound.

5-0 out of 5 stars System! System! System!
The only Crass album to exclusively feature the Crass women on vocals (mostly Eve Libertine with some Joy deVivre)Thats a great benefit to the listener as the lyrics are for the first time completely intelligible (Steve Ignorant often sang as though his mouth was filled with cotton)This is an extremely angry, intelligent, thought provoking album and lyrically is everything anarchist rock should be (antimaterialist, feminist, and scathing in its assement of society, its power structure and norms)The music however is not typical punk rock but is much more self-conscious and artistically mature, mixing elements of krautrock, free improv, punk, spoken word, etc.Its rythmically unswinging yet dense and complex: the guitars are used more for texture and rythym than melody, tape and vocal effects abound and the songs have a greater dynamic range than on previous albums.Crass obviously really tried to hone and expand on their original (and noisy) sound. Some of these songs: "What the F...?" and "Where Next Columbus" still give me chills down my spine.Odd, angry and original.Their best work.

5-0 out of 5 stars still amazing after 20 years
Quite possibly the most important album ever made.Definelty one of my favorites. It has lost none of its power over the years, and it is still as pertinent as ever. The music sounds as fresh as ever--noone else has ever managed to sound quite like them. 3-0 out of 5 stars Crass ..
are one of the truly neat bands, i think...i think the stories of groups like crass, & dead kennedys should be in history books, taught to kids in classrooms as just a part of our heritage, really. it's high time punk rock & what it has done for us be noticed & brought out. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best by one of the best
This has got to be one of my favorite of all the records these guys have done... It's all material from their early years, and it has all of the same energy & drive that you would expect from one of the first & most influential punk bands of all time. Don't get me wrong, I love most of the stuff they did in the last few recordings they did as the original members, but all the releases have a different sound; none really better or worse than the others. If you're looking for a more metal/punk sound, I would suggest to listen to 'Quickness' or 'I against I', since this release has a much more raw punk feel to it.

5-0 out of 5 stars We can do most anything, we've got that supertouch
This is the Bad Brains as early as you can find it - 1979, recording a live demo at Don Zientara's (who later became the legendary producer/engineer of Minor Threat, Fugazi, and just about everything important to come from DC) fledgling Inner Ear studios. The band members all set up in different rooms, leaving H.R. having to stand outside to prevent track bleeding. You can hear crickets from Don's yard coming through his microphone between tracks. It doesn't get any more real than this.
5-0 out of 5 stars GREATEST PUNK ALBUM OF ALL TIME
I remember picking this album up in 95 when I first got into punk and it was one of the best albums I had ever heard. I still listen to it today and the bad brains remain one of the few punk bands that I can still stand to listen to. The Bad brains burst on to the scene in about the early 80s combining hardcore D.C. punk rock with a unique reggae sound. I personally feel that this there first album and IagainstI are there best works but this album has a certain punk rock quality to it in the recording and in the music and lyrics that I just love. It really is sad that bands dont make music like this anymore back in the 80s it was all about your local scene and going to shows and supporting the music you loved. Now its about slick record executives trying to make a quick buck off of the latest trend or fad. This music takes me back and reminds of what it was like in the good old days if you were there you will dance around your room just like the old times. If you werent youll wish you were. CLASSIC ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Production credits
Sorry to all you guys that love Primus so much, but the Lester Claypool that produced this album is not the same guy with the big bass.that of course doesn't change the fact that this record rocks the house- turn it up and listen to just the into for "a little each day" and see if your heart rate doesn't jump up!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Blend of Hard Core and Thrash
I picked this album up in the mid eighties and it took about two listens to really get into it. I can say that it is probably the only hard core I've ever liked. This album is more thrash than anything and that is what I liked about it the most. They blended the thrash with hard core and a sort of rap vibe and this is the only time I ever liked that rap vibe except when Anthrax did "I'm The Man" as a goof. I guess it is the phrasing of the vocals that gives me that impression, not so much that he actually rapped.
4-0 out of 5 stars might be a bit generic, but still awesome.
of course, this is not the hardcore punk of the wonderful debut, this is more of a thrash attempt than hardcore punk.

4-0 out of 5 stars as if
a lot of people write this band off as being a carbon copy of rancid...say what you want but rancids been one of my fav bands since i was 16...yes..the singer..does sound very very similiar to tim..yes alot of the themes (junkies, hookers, being punk, ect..) do make their way on this album.a lot like a lot of early rancid's work think "lets go" and the s/t album...perhaps with a bit of "..and out come the wolves"..but you know what? all three of those albums are amazing...so how can time again possibly suck?my fav song on this album right now is the last song "street walker" a lil ska ditty bout hookers....so damn catchy

5-0 out of 5 stars Rancid Clones? Yes... Good Music? Yes!
This band does sound exactly like Rancid, but I'm very happy with this album none-the-less.If you have been hoping for another Rancid release like "Let's Go!" or "...And Out Come the Wolves" then pick up this album, you won't regret it.You will be singing along within 30 seconds of pushing "play" on your stereo.

4-0 out of 5 stars hmmmmm....have I heard this before.
Time Again is a great band from California. They released a E.P. on Rancid Records before moving to Hellcat and releasing this fine peice of music art.People have dogged on them in the past for ripping off Rancid. But Rancid is a good band. And this band just looks up to them. The song writing is a bit like Rancid, but these guys know what its like to really go through what they are talking about in their songs. If you like Rancid then pick this up.If you dont like Rancid dont bother to pick this up because you'll hate it.I love Rancid and I love Time Again.Amazing album ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My intro. to Suicidal Tendencies
As my title says, this was the first Suicidal Tendencies album I got. I expected it to sound punky, as everyone says they're so good a punk band. I was surprised, and NOT the bad kind! This album is straight forward metal. The first two albums had a punk influence, but HCILTWICEST and everything afterwards was a metal album. This is one of the best albums of the 90's. Mike Muir's vocals are top-notch here. Rob Trujillo's bass is great, the guitars from Mike Clark and the other guitarist (forgot his name...sorry!) are great, as are the drums. The album starts out with "Cant' Stop". NO, not the Red Hot Chilli Peppers song! It's one of the longer songs, but it's a great start to this great album. The next songs, "Accept My Sacrifice" and "Nobody Hears", are my favorite songs on this album. I like all the songs on this album, but the above three are my favorites. Recommended if you like metal, speed metal, and Suicidal Tendencies.
5-0 out of 5 stars It contains one of the most mesmerizing songs ever!!!
I am 36 and have been listening to hard rock/metal since I was only nine.I own more than 1,500 hard rock/metal CDs.I am not bragging here, but rather trying to put things into perspective when talking about this album.
5-0 out of 5 stars Hard rock can be art
When I bought this album I didnt get what I thought I was getting into. For awhile I was highly dissappointed listening to it, and to be honest I didnt like it to much. I gave 'The Art of Rebellion' some time though, and it grew on me. The lyrics can be a bit corny and annoying some of the time though, and that brings it down a half point - from a perfect five to a 4.5. Thats still really great, and perfect albums that truly warrent five stars are really far in between for me though. For anyone who wants an album they can listen to years for now (unlike those whiny emo bands who will be gone after the fad wears off), then pick up this album. You cant stop the run away emotions in me, you know... Never mind. Buy the album and you will know what I'm talking about. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars 3++ stars
While not as bracing as their startlingly good comeback album "Three Sisters," the Donut stretches out a bit more on this offering, serving up a slew of solid songs that recall their adventuresome glory days.Unlike "Three Sisters," "Fuzz" drags at points, but not many -- and the trade-off is that there is greater instrumental interplay and some lovely harmonies. If you're a fan you're sure to want to keep supporting Alice Donut in their new, revitalized incarnation by purchasing this disc!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad
8.5 STARS OUT OF 10
4-0 out of 5 stars great album!
sure, the lyrics are chock full of tough guy thug-esque lyrics, but you are all missing the point. lars is an admitted sex-aholic as well as a drinker and smoker..and probally gets/got into his share of fights as well. yes, lars' first album is definately better, but that one was made to be a little bio of lars' life. this one is a fun album chock full of hard hitting punk rock. the lyrics sheet could have been uncensored though. that would have been more hardcore. the album contains some great covers, appearances by skinhead rob and tim armstrong, short fast songs, and a closing track that will make you want to laugh, but you will feel bad because lars is pouring himself out to you.
2-0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing considering these guys write the Rancid albums too
I really liked the first record these guys put out. It was somewhat similar to Rancid with big melodies and sing alongs but had a dirtier street punk style with the punk equivalent of thug life rap lyrics. On this second effort the formula is left largely intact but for some reason this release lacks any truly standout songs like the several that graced their first record. While the songs are played with energy and are somewhat faster and meaner than their first effort, they lack any distinguishing characteristics to set them apart from each other or the myriad bands playing this style.

5-0 out of 5 stars Soul men
What a band. It's too bad Yow isn't singing with the mike stuck in his throat like he did with the Lizard, but the upside is that you can understand all the evil things he's saying. Song 4 is extremely powerful.

4-0 out of 5 stars The dark primordial pool from which evolved the mighty Jesus Lizard
This is a great collection, everything Scratch Acid did is on this one CD. I call that a bargain. Scratch Acid are the band that bassist David Wm. Sims and vocalist David Yow were in from 1982-1987 before their tenure in the amazing Jesus Lizard. Musically SA aren't that far from Jesus Lizard, perhaps a tad bluesier, and much looser, not as mathematically intense, recalling Capt. Beefheart and The Birthday Party. Lyrically and vocally SA mine much the same territory as Yow would explore with the Lizard ie insanity. He developed his entirely unique style that relies on an agonized moaning and sometimes incomprehensible but always intense vocalizations, in other words howling, in Scratch Acid. This is punk when punk wasn't cool, 4 intense young men creating some of the more unique music of the eighties without hope of commercial success. God bless 'em. If you like Jesus Lizard, you'll probably like Scratch Acid.

Editorial Review

Like a slightly more sardonic, decidedly Californianized Undertones, the Descendents ran the gamut of adolescent interest, from girls to, uh, girls. And they matched that wide scope with an equally wide array of three-chord tunes. So why is this such an essential record? One word: Milo. Singer Milo Aukerrman--who really was off to college after recording it--yelps "I'm Not a Punk" and "I'm Not a Loser" with such desperation that it's almost touching. Then again, the nyah-nyah attitude that crops up just about everywhere else marks him as the sorta guy who'd probably pick your pocket as you were looking for a hankie to help dry those eyes. A quintessential American punk document. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If you don't like punk, you won't like this...otherwise, this album is brilliant
First off, I can't stand people who don't like punk and yet insist on writing a review about a punk album just so they can bash the hell out of it, call it "generic", "uninspiried", and "unoriginal" (and any other empty rhetoric you can think of), and feel better about themselves. This is punk.If you don't like punk, then you won't like this, so why bother commenting on it.I don't comment on death metal albums because I don't like death metal.Let punk be already.
4-0 out of 5 stars A tad overrated
This album is fun and has a lot of good energy. At first it sounds like a great punk record, but as the album goes on you start to realize that this sounds almost exactly like New Found Glory or Green Day or Blink 182, all those very crappy generic modern pop/rock bands. Milo has good vocals though.
5-0 out of 5 stars I'm not a punk & I'm not a loser
This is one of the best examples of 80's punk music.
