5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely...luh luh luh luh luh luh luh luh lovely..........
Suicidal Tendencies is one of those metal bands that I knew of when they were popular but I didn't really start listening to them until many years later.I was only familiar with some of their earlier hardcore-punk-type stuff, like 'Institutionalized'.A friend of mine started listening to them and slowly but surely, I really started to dig them too. This was the first album I bought, after listening to a few of them with my friend.I would say this is my favorite album by them.
5-0 out of 5 stars I Feel Lovely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Suicidal Tendencies are on of my all time favorite bands and their album Lights...Camera...Revolution is their greatest. This album is recomended to anyone who wants kick-ass "cheerful metal." Highlights on this album are "Lovely" "Discos Out Murders In" and "Give It Revolution".

5-0 out of 5 stars When your emotion gets the best of you
Everyone wants to control your life. Everyone tells you what to do and how to live. This is the album that breaks all the rules and fights hard to destroy the opposition. When life's problems are too much to aborb there's always one band to tune to: Suicidal Tendencies. Powerful up front lyrics, powerful guitars and sections of interludes that makes you free. ... Editorial Review

When punk rock met the formless rebellion that permeated L.A.'s working-class suburbs in the early '80s, a weird hybrid was born, drawing equally from heavy-metal thunder and Ritalin-generation aggression. Suicidal Tendencies' frontman Mike Muir was one of them, and they knew it immediately, latching onto the half-spoken, half-screeched brain bomb "Institutionalized" as an instant classic. That song is certainly the best-known track on this, the group's debut, but it's hardly the only essential one: "Fascist Pig," "I Shot the Devil," and "Possessed" all rage on mightily, the arcs of guitar from Rocky George and Mike Clark serving to push Muir to new heights of blind frenzy. In less powerful hands, this album would be little more than an extended temper tantrum, but in the mitts of Suicidal, it's something far, far more dangerous. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Give credit where credit is due
Reguarding your Editoriol Reviews, per amazone.com's David Sprague on Suicidal Tendencies first album release, erroneously credits Rocky George and Mike Clark's guitar playing for being instrumental in part for the albums success. However, the original and actual guitar players on that album where bassist Louiche Mayorga and guitarist Grant Estes.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great album that everyone should try listening to
I, like a lot of people, hate all of the whiney little posers that call themselves punk. Before you ever say you like punk music, I think you should base that off of an actual punk band (not Green Day or Good Charlotte). So here is one album that I find very easy to listen to and enjoy. It pretty much represents what hard-core punk should be.
5-0 out of 5 stars for the record.......
This record was their first and as far as i'm concerned. . . . their best. The amazon review is incorrect regarding who played guitar on it though. Nothing agains rocky or mike but Grant Estes played ALL guitars on that record. Those other guys did the remake and it's not even close. Don't waste your money. the original kicks azz and was the total precursor to sooooo many bands today it's not even funny. Mike's insane lyrics spoke to a generation trying to find itself and Grant's guitar work was groundbreaking for that genre of music. NOBODY had solos in punk at that time. This record was ahead of it's time and still holds up today. check it out, you'll play the siht out of it like i do. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Only Good Compilation
The only compilation worth buying is a compilation of all old Bad Religion songs. Period. This CD mixes a variety of songs from "Suffer", "Against the Grain", "No Control", "Generator", and "How Could Hell Be Any Worse?", probably the highlights of Bad Religion's long running career. Personally, I don't think there was ever a dull moment, even with albums like "The New America", "Recipe for Hate", and "No Substance", I think Bad Religion has made every album strong and full of thought and Greg and Brett's own opinions and bits of wisdom (which they have plenty of). But that's another subject matter. "All Ages" combines a lot of great songs off of the before mentioned albums like "Generator", "Anesthesia", "Walk Away", and "Sanity". It also contains live versions of "How Could Hell Be Any Worse?" and "Do What You Want". If you've never heard Bad Religion and want a good gist of their previous albums, pick this up. If you like what you hear, definately pick up the rest. "Generator" and "No Control" have tons of songs you can't afford to miss.

4-0 out of 5 stars No One cares about yourEx-Girlfriend
How can anyone fault bad religion, one of the longest running punk bands in history and easily one of the best. You would think there is only so much you can do with power chords and simple melodies, well Someone forgot to tell these guys. Here lies 20 odd tracks of political, state of the world, think for youself punk rock not a skateboard or emo kid in sight. There is not one bad track on this collection and for a band that has 20 years of material behind them thats a hard thing to do.If you are either an Old BR fan or new to them This is the definative guide to the bands former years. If only there were more bands like this one. ... This CD rock just as much as Revolutions Per Minute and it's awesome!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars "Live for Something Outside of Your Own Mind"
These guys rock. Finally there's a band that is easy to find out about that is actually good. Tim's lyrics are great, they're not your average "boo-hoo she broke my heart, now I'm gonna kill her" lyrics that these so-called emo bands write about. They actually mean something, they're political, but even your average "angst filled adolescent" can enjoy them because at times they mention girls in a political sense.

5-0 out of 5 stars I maintain against the grain
This is the hardcore album without a doubt from BR, filled with angst and agression you'll probably p**s alot of people off when playing this next to them. But thats what i love about this cd, all the songs are fast and to the point. Also your gonna need a dictionary while listening to this, if you can catch what Greg is singing. The best songs on the album are: God Song, Faith Alone, track 6 (cuz i cant spell the title lol), Against the grain, The positive aspect of negative thinking, unacceptable and 21st century digital boy.
5-0 out of 5 stars the last truly amazing BR album of the 90's
yes, i believe that this is BR's pinnacle. they were at their top game here. the album starts awesome, but kind of drops off near the last few songs....the closer "walk away" is amazing though! i think that suffer and no control beat this one, but being 3rd or 4th isnt bad. i believe that the only album to come close to the holy trinity is "stranger than fiction." i recommend this to all punk rock fans. BR was on a roll, but sadly this was the last truly amazing thing they made until stranger than fiction.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm a new fan and I think this record is great
I read the other reviews on here and I can see why people who have liked AFI for a long time and have everything may not need this album, but I just got into AFI when Sing The Sorrow came out and then I just bought decemberunderground. This album helped me figure out which of the other albums I might like.Turn out that I like the Black Sails and Art of Drowning albums better than the earlier stuff but the really early songs on this album are cool but not really my kind of music.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not Very Essential
Since AFI had spent years in the underground expanding their fan base and appeal to ridiculous heights, it was only a matter of time before a cd of this nature surfaced. Given the success of their commercial breakthrough "Sing The Sorrow", no one should be surprised in the least that Mr. Holland and Nitro records decided to put out this compilation to cash in on AFI's popularity. Also considering the band was not even involved in the arrangement or selection of this disc, and it makes things seem even shadier. While if you've never listened to AFI before and you are looking for a good place to start, "A Fire Inside" might be appropriate, it's nothing more than a compilation of old songs, and will seem fairly disappointing to any fan who's been around a lengthy amount of time.
4-0 out of 5 stars an introduction to AFI !
This was the first afi album i bought and i wasnt let down. Ok mybe it was just nitro making a compilation and alot of afi fans arent happy about it but if your just getting into the band like i was, i think that this albums holds many of afi's great songs ( some might disagree!). But after you'v got this album you should buy "ART OF DROWNING" true hardcore! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It sounds like LARS, NOT like RANCID
If you love the ska-punk sound of RANCID and are not into heavier styles of punk, then this albumn is likely not for you.
4-0 out of 5 stars Oh what's lar's to do during down time....
Whats lar's to do during down time with rancid while Tim attends to producing lp's for others and doing side bands with blink members ect....Why produce some albums here and there for some of the bands that Tim has no time for on Hellcat and to keep it real do some for a label that's slowly going alacart BYO.So, finally Lar's set's off to do his first solo side project since being in Rancid.Lar's had been in some bands prior to Rancid most notably Aunti Christ which hailed kinda from Olympia, Washington and thanks to Lars also from Campbell, California. (hence the song Olympia, WA) So, we start this lp with an intro ala Rancid style and it goes straight into a Rancid style song you'd expect to hear written by Lars. So, far good. Than have a song flashing back to Lar's early years with his brother and what not. Step up a bit to the next track "to have to have not" a great song done by Billy Bragg which one can easily figure why it was a no brainer to cover this classic Folk/contempary punk song. Then it goes on mostly sounding like a tribute album to Lar's favorite bands. You'll hear more of that classic rancid "life won't wait" style music with guitar riffs of Black Flag's "rise above" Motorhead "ace of spades" riffs with lyrics that kinda sound like a Motorhead song. And if you just pay attention theres lots of riff's one will easily recognize from big punk songs. So, this album overall isn't really origional considering who wrote the songs and had his mate Tim help produce this album.(both can make good orgional songs when they put their talents to work)But, it turns out alright cause Lar's put's down how he see's the world and gives one a glimpse on his life up to the the new Millinium. And this album still gets good life in my CD player after all these years. Not bad for a first solo album. Be weary of the second lp though....

5-0 out of 5 stars another Rancid side project
This album's really good, it's like Rancid, but without Tim. I still don't see what people have against Indestructable. Oh well ... Read more

Editorial Review

After the first of their countless breakups, the Bad Brains reconvened in 1986 to record this, their undeniable masterwork. Fusing dub reggae and funk rhythms into the mix, and slowing the tempo down enough to appeal to hardcore's emergent metal crossover audience, the Bad Brains created one of the most powerful collections the '80s produced in any genre. On "I Against I" and "House of Suffering," the quartet suffuses traditional Jamaican spiritualism with modern urban concerns, while the soaring "Sacred Love" is guaranteed to send shivers down the spine of anyone with any soul whatsoever. An essential release. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This Ain't Your Son's Punk Rock
I Against I is one of my oldest, most-played, best-loved CDs. I was 16 when I bought it from my "favorite" snobby Denver record store (I won't name any names, but its initials are W.A.X. T.R.A.X.), the messy-haired hipster behind the counter looked at the Bad Brains catalog written on a piece of cardboard behind all the CD longboxes and said, "OK, you want to buy 'Against'-- those 'I's on either side of it mean it's an import." Yeah, OK, record geek, don't tell me what you don't know and just sell me the CD, you fool. I truly hope he was fired for incompetence and moved to Portland, where I'm sure he thought the people were much cooler.

there is something about this album that just rubs me in a unique and special way. i dont know if it is HR's voice or the fact of the funk and punk hardcore mix.i think all of the songs are amazing. this is bad brains' best album. by far.

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, inventive and extremely important.......the debut from DK about 4 1/2 stars
DK burst on the scene in the late 70's with an innovative and extremely funny sound. Blending elements of punk, hardcore and rockabilly with lyrical content based souly on political awareness the Dead Kennedys were leading the charge on the movement of getting the word out. Lead by master lyricist Jello Biafra (who was a man on a mission), surf rock guitarist East Bay Ray, bass player extraordinaire Klaus Flouride and Ted on drums. The Dead Kennedys were embarking on a dangerous and untraveled road against all odds. This reissue of their debut is a perfect starting point for all those revolutionaries out there who truly want to listen to something important. Many great songs here. There are a few fillerson the album but those tracks don't take away from the intensity of 'Fresh Fruit'. As a bonus with this reissue you get a 55 minute documentary dvd which offers insight into the beginnings of DK. Early performances of the band which are out of this world, interviews and Jello's short run for Mayor of San Francisco. Incredible to say the least.

5-0 out of 5 stars forget alternative tentacles, get this!!
first, i am surprised at the amount of obviously brain-washed people giving bad reviews to all DK albums. okay, so the profits are not going to Jello Biafra. first, who cares? there are 3 other band members who still deserve profits. hell, Jello didn't even start this band! East Bay Ray was the guy who was responsible for them coming together!....and if you do end up finding a used alternative tentacles version..who gets the cash then? some second hand cd exchange seller who will probably spend it on beer?..... all i can say, is Jello Biafra will not get any money from any DK album you buy. so why not at least support the three other musicians who worked hard on the DK albums?
5-0 out of 5 stars Still As Fresh 25 Years On
Just a cursory glance through the titles of this 1980 San Francisco punk classic should prepare you for the madness contained within the album's 14 tracks. Landlords are being lynched, children and the poor killed, drugs and chemical warfare indulged in, and somewhat tamely in comparison, people's mail stolen. It all rounds off with one of the classic punk covers, as the DK's tear through the King's Viva Las Vegas. Hearing them lambast then-Californian Governor Jerry Brown and the American army- on California Uber Alles and When Ya Get Drafted respectively-you get the impression Messrs. Bush Jnr and Schwarzenegger are relieved this lot were born twenty-five years too early to shower them with vitriol.

5-0 out of 5 stars It is the Sounds of Science
This IS the most incredible album ever. How many artists can boast that they're punk, hip hop, funk, soul, and about 3 others??? (Did I forget country?) The thing I like about the beasties is that everything they do always sounds new and fresh. Let me put it this way, it's not like a good charlotte album.

5-0 out of 5 stars This album saved my life.
My War is one of the most important albums in my collection, because it helped me get through some really tough times in my life. The whole aura of the release is depression and anguish, but at the same time the album can sooth because the lyrics are deep and moving. Some people might not like this album, because they can solve emotional issues on their own, but if you need comfort and guidance to let off anger and pain, put My War on maximum volume with the lyrics booket in hand and begin to heal all emotional pain.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Album is a smack in the jaw
Henry rollins and Greg Ginn Working together for this 1983 master piece. You can feel rollins spitting in your face while he sings "My War! your one of them you say, your my friend but your one of them". this album is nothing to f**k with buy it but warning don't listen to if, your having relationship problems, job problems, school problems exc.. because if your in a good mood before this album you will want to kick someone in the n*ts after this. plus we don't want to see you on the news.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Tonight I sit right down in my room..."
This album is Black Flag's best, without a doubt. The songs are packed full of emotion, Henry can deliver words with such intensity, the guitar is muddy and sounds almost like you're listening to Black Sabbath's Master of Reality. This album also contains the infamous 3 slow songs, which most Black Flag fans did not like. Out of all the songs on the album, those 3 are my favorite. They are so intense, you feel every word hit you like a trainwreck. I cannot describe the way I felt when I first heard "Three Nights" or "Nothing Left Inside", JUST GET THIS ALBUM. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars good hardcore
This is good 80's hardcore,If you are new to punk I suggest you pick this up and add it to your collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic album...... until about two/thirds through
Until the track "Jesus Was A Communist," this is a flawless, breakneck speed early 80's hardcore disc. After that point, it gets a bit too metal-ish for my taste (I mean, come on.... there's practically a guitar solo on What Will the Neighbors Think.)
5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite hardcore albums
The riffs are heavy and the drums are fast what more can I say other then this is an amazing hardcore album. I'd reccomend this to any fan of punk or hardcore.

4-0 out of 5 stars Walking around with your head in the clouds.
This CD features the a-sides and b-sides of two Husker Du singles."Eight Miles High" is a good cover version of the classic Byrds song."Masochism World" is a poorly recorded live version of a song from Husker Du's third album."Make No Sense at All" is a great original song by the group."Love is All Around" is a good version of The Mary Tyler Moore Show theme song, which could have been great if the group had learned the second verse, instead of just repeating the first verse.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Track in the History of Rock
What do you get when you shove oceans' full of adrenaline, melancholy, anger, joy, yearning, nihilsm, optimism, surrender, ecstasy all into one 45 rpm single?A rock explosion that has never been surpassed. In the summer of 1984 I had dropped out of school, moved to the East Village, NYC, and started playing guitar in some crappy band. All the neighborhood record-store and rock band hipsters, who rarely looked for music produced outside New York and London, were talking about the band from Minneapolis and their incredible cover of "Eight Miles High."I loved it too, played it a thousand times at maximum volume, but never would have thought a track so raw would hold up over time.Twenty years later it actually sounds ten times better. An unbelievably great achievement.

5-0 out of 5 stars UNBELIEVABLE!
Husker Du's version of "Eight Miles High" is amazing! The screaming, agonized vocals of Bob Mould combined with the thundering bass and drums of Greg Norton and Grant Hart make this a must buy for any Husker Du fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars Oldschool Punk/Hardcore Champions
Not much to say here that has not already been said one thousand times over. AFI can do no wrong! Fast, catchy, hardcore pop with great melodies, riffs, and ton of sing alongs. Yes, that's correct pop, but this dose not count them out of the hardcore game. Think of Minor Threat, Bad Brains, and Gorilla Biscuits , and try to deny the catchy nature and pop sensability. This CD is drenched in oldschool over tones and Davey Havoks lyrics and voice are great albeit alittle girlie. On a side note don't discount decemberunderground, and this goes to new and old fans alike. There newest release is not and I repeat NOT EMO!! It's a great disc reminiscent of 80's new wave and post-punk (goth)synthpop, complete with New Order-esc dance beats. Don't fret it can still sever up killer 2-step beats and amazing sing alongs. Not to mention, decemberunderground has Hunter's bass lines sounding full and more amazing then ever. If you like Depeche Mode, The Cure, Sister of Mercy, Razed in Black, and U2 then you will fall in love with it. Especially 37mm.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great album, shows the roots of a great band.
The afi featured in this album is actually pretty much a diffrent band than we see in later albums. afi stood for anthems for insubordinates while it later stands for a fire inside. there are two diffrent band members than later on. two diffrent members makes a big diffrence. for anyone who knows anything about punk, the only diffrence between operation ivy and rancid is two members, but they are very diffrent bands. so now that ive established this cd as a "diffrent band" ill say that this is a great album. truly fantastic. it is youth energy and teen angst in music form. it basically defines every teenage loser. haha its true though, and thats what makes it fun. yes this is a FUN album. thats the best way to describe it. davey sings about cereal, and wanting a mohawk, and not wanting to get up in the morning and stupid jocks, its very immature, but that immaturity is refreshing. when compared to black sails in the sunset, or the art of drowning, this album seems meak and irrelevent. afi later would go on to make creative music that would blow my mind, but this album is always something ill come back to, because its fun.theres nothing else to it. its fun fast and punk. so when you feel overwhelemed by afis later, more intense albums just pop this in, its simply a fun album to listen to.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Of AFI's Very Best!
Hmm, I'm not sure how to open this review. Probably by saying that, despite what the Jade fanatics say, this is one of AFI's best albums. I swear, those people are so close minded, it kills me. Though, I can see why some people don't like it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Punk Album
First of all this is not your typical Lemonheads album. It is nothing but pure Punk Rock as opposed to their later music. This is by far my favorite Lemonheads album and falls in my top 10 of all time great Punk albums.
2-0 out of 5 stars It's fine...But if you love this, you have issues
Folks who LOOOOVE this album, then call later LEMONHEADS "wimpy" "60's sounding" and "changed by major labels" are obviously still in high school, or just immature and don't really like MUSIC...They like a SCENE.Namely punk.If it ain't fast and sloppy, then it ain't good to these folks.
    5-0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece!
I don't care what the other compilation album claims to be-- This CD is the best of the Lemonheads! The first few songs are from the excellent but out-of-print "Laughing All the Way to the Cleaners" album.Almost every single song (and there are 20 of them) is amazing and sticks in your head.Probably not for the fans of latter-day Lemonheads.Although there are a couple of slow-tempo moments, overall, this is garage rock played at hardcore punk speed. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best work ever
Suicidal Tendencies has never been a "popular" band but they seem to manage to stick around."How Will I Laugh" is probably their best work to date (and probably the best they will ever do judging from their more recent releases).Awesome riffs and strange vocals (but typically lame guitar solos). If you only get one ST album, this is the one to get.

5-0 out of 5 stars The reasons ST made their best effort HERE.....
Having seen the band at a tension filled show 6 months earlier at an odd metal/punk dual bill in Oakland, I was not surprised to see new faces on the cover. Gone was co-founder Louichi Mayorga on bass, and they had added Mike Clark on rythym guitar.Mike Clark also wrote the music almost across the board on this album, and I don't know if he'd been storing up these gems for a rainy....er...band, but WOW!
5-0 out of 5 stars A THRASH METAL ADVENTURE,MY ALL TIME FAVORITE ALBUM !
"How will I Laugh Tommorow if I Can't Even Smile Today" is a unique album and in a class of its own. (kind of like Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and the rock genre.) This awesome thrash metal album performed by Suicidal Tendencies is one of the most "feel good" albums created in the genre.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Vicious Circle-CLASSIC
The Zero Boys w/ Terry Howe, guitar, were one of the best bands of the 80s & of all time as far as classic Punk. I also happen to be a big fan of Toxic Reasons, Terry's subsequent band (Bullets for You being my 1st intro to his guitar playing). I had the pleasure of not only meeting Terry & his wife, but having played w/ him in Urban Disturbance in Naples, FL in the early90s. Terry's guitar playing is CLASSIC. You won't be disappointed if your a fan of SO Cal & DC Punk. Sheila, Terry is sorely missed.

5-0 out of 5 stars i love it..
this album has to go down as one of the best ever...

5-0 out of 5 stars Discover this punk classic.
Vicious Circle is a classic punk album that doesn't get the recognition of other punk classics. Most of these punk lists don't even have it on them. One girl who did called them english pop-punk, but they were a punk/hardcore band from Indiana. Their sound was simalar to DEAD KENNEDYS. Fast and hard but still very catchy and without the political preaching. If you claim to be a fan of punk rock you have to have this cd. I guarantee you'll like it and put it at the top of your list. And one more thing, how can the woman who was married to the guitar player only give this 3 stars? ... Read more
