4-0 out of 5 stars Nice, but the synapses are already there
Weezer know what you like because you have heard it before.I guess in a way I would give this 3 1/2 stars. It really is just a continuation of their debut. They could package the two discs together and you really wouldn't be able to tell they were done 7 years apart.
5-0 out of 5 stars 100% Fun
There has been much debate among critics and fans alike as to which Weezer album is the best. Although not often cited as Weezer's best, the Green Album arguably offers the goods more than any of their other albums in the category of basic rock n' roll fun. This by and large is because the melodies on the record are of the highest order. The melodies here not only are more consistent than those heard on the other Weezer albums, but superior to just about any album released in the last decade. While some might dismiss the album as nothing original, very few artists carry out the pop/punk style as good as Weezer. Catchy pop/punk songs such as the ones demonstrated here will never go out of fashion. In fact, the album often reminds one of a distorted Beatles.
1-0 out of 5 stars Uhmm...
What a waste of time and money. 10 songs and hardly 20-30 minutes... of pure mediocrity.

Editorial Review

In some parallel, '70s-groove-askew universe it's Eagles of Death Metal who are the superstars, not merely the studiously dizzy spin-off of Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme and his Palm Desert school chum/lapsed journalist Jesse Hughes. Building forcefully on the charms of their '04 debut, their camaraderie foregoes ego (QOTSA mainstay Homme is EODM's drummer, pal Hughes its falsetto-voiced, ax-slinging rock star) for a retro, ambitiously naïve garage-rock-meets-boogie-down ethos that labors under the delightfully perverse misconception that the New York Dolls, Hot Chocolate and T Rex were all actually the same band - one that Muddy Waters and The Big Bopper occasionally sat in with. Less demented talents have pumped similar shtick full of self-conscious irony; here H&H simply grab it by the neck and shake furiously, yielding "I Gotta Feeling"'s Bolan boogie, the Stones-ish "I Like to Move.." and Dolls-swaggering "Keep Your Head Up," before moving onto such enticing genre demolition derby entries as "Ballad of Queen Bee and Baby Duck," "Chase the Devil" and the giddy "Shasta Beast."Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars too absurd, really
I've never heard the music of Queens of the Stone Age, but if it's anything like this side project then it probably ain't 2 good. All the music on here has way too much variety; normally that's a good thing, but in this case it's just plain inconsistent. There are a few tunes I liked such as "I Want You so hard", "Just Nineteen" and "cherry cola", but the rest either didn't have good chord progressions or were extremely strange melodies that made no sense usually. I got bored of listening to it at about song seven. don't buy this CD, it's weird.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
This CD by the Eagles of death metal is pretty good 70's style boogie rock.

3-0 out of 5 stars this is sleaze rock!
This cd is fun, the music is okay (there is no lasting quality, great work, feeling that you will get) but it is a fun, almost perverted work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thanks, Jim!
Jim Morrsion died while this album was climbing the charts.I can't listen to "L.A. Woman" without mixed feelings of joy and sadness.Joy- because the music, lyrics, and vocals are so fantastic.Sadness- because this is the last Doors studio album.
5-0 out of 5 stars LA Woman LA Woman
This was by far the best Doors album that they put out. After everything that they went through putting up with Jim this was a masterpiece. This album really showd that Jim could write some amazing songs.
3-0 out of 5 stars An uneven, but worthy, finale
At this point, Jim Morrison had pretty well drank himself to the state of uselessness, at times showing up for sessions late (or not at all) and not usually cooperating when he did. So it's a surprise that there's anything even remotely listenable about this album. And there is - six of ten songs are quite good, but this one's still quite overrated.

The Ramones' April 1976 debut, recorded for little more than $6,000, long ago passed into legend. Its exalted status as the inspiration for thousands of punk bands worldwide, though, hasn't overshadowed its monolithic roar, the knowing hilarity of its lyrics ("Judy Is a Punk" crams the SLA, the Ice Capades, and a salute to Herman's Hermits into a 90-second frame), and the impulse to blast it for everyone within earshot: Hey, listen to Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It's Not My Favorite Ramones Album, But It's Still A Punk Rock Classic! (4.5 Stars)
The Ramones are one of my favorite bands. I just love them to death. Joey Ramone has got to be one of my favorite singers of all time. Johnny Ramone can turn 3 or 4 power chords into a masterpeice. For a while, I only had Ramones Mania to my disposal, so I knew I had to get more. So I started my Ramones album collection with The Ramones S/T.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Ramones
The Ramones what can i say? Greatest band ever? Maybe not but pretty darn close. For all those to stuck up to like the ramones because the poor production and lack of fast guitar solos are really missing. The Ramones were born on 50's bubblegum and the new york dolls the stones and beatles. If you are new to The ramones i recommend not starting with this album because you might be turned off cause lack of audio quality. Try A greatest hits or Rocket to russia, road to ruin, End Of the Century, Brain drain, or pleasant dreams. The Ramones debut is a great great album really what rock n roll should be about not 30 minute drum solos.

2-0 out of 5 stars Johnny Ramone does NOt play electric heavy metal guitar!!
Frist of all this isan okay album don't get me wrong, but I bought it because Johnny Ramone is supposed to be a great guitarist but he really isn't. Plus it kinda sounds like it was recorded with the band playing in a bathroom, with two tin cans on a string: one in the bathroom withthe band and the other running out to the hallway with a radio shack microphone sitting in front of it. Catchy tunes but if i had it to buy over again I'd probably just d/l essential tracks like I Can't Be and I Don't Wanna Be Learned/I Don't Wanna Be Tamed and spend my hard hustled scratch on a better produced Ramones album like End Of The Century or Pleasant Dreams. ... Great Songs In THis ALbum:
4-0 out of 5 stars Great release, a little raw....
I was introduced to MCR through Three cheers for sweet revenge, which is one of the best albums to ever be released. I brought you my bullets, you brought me your love is a very, very good release. All the songs are awesome, and the intensity and ferocity that drew me MCR in the first place is well in place on this album. But, it seems that they were still finding their sound and direction on this album. Very good album, but the recording is very raw, semi-okay production. But nevertheless a great release that you must check out...My favorite song is Drowning lessons.

5-0 out of 5 stars an awesome cd from a band that has lost its touch
this is an amazing cd from mcr.their recent stuff such as "three cheers for sweet revenge" and especcialy the "life on the murder scene" cd(the dvd was nice but still could've been better)are awful! get this in your heads.... EMO ISN'T REAL!! it's a musical term.it is impossible to be emo... ive never seen a real one atleast... all i see are wrist slitting freaks who brag about how sharp their razors really are... This double record from 1972 remains the definitive collection of Rundgren's long career. With Rundren acting as a one-man-band for three-quarters of the session, it was also his bid for a Ph.D. from the college of musical knowledge. He deserved the degree for simply writing the lead-off track, "I Saw the Light," a melodic pop-rock gem that remains Rundgren's greatest hit. Rundgren excels at Beatles-esque pop-rock ("Couldn't I Just Tell You," "Wolfman Jack") and Philadelphia-styled soul ballads ("It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference," "Hello, It's Me"). He also sticks his toe into heavy metal ("Black Maria"), jazz-rock fusion ("Breathless"), and cerebral pop ("The Night the Carousel Burnt Down"). Like most double albums, there's fat on the play-list, but the best of Read more

An amazing double album by , at the time, a very young Todd. An interesting variety of songs. Todd can rock, he can croon, he can play bubble gum, he can jam, he can harmonize, he's got soul. "Hello it me" was a fav when I was young and it is still way up there today.
5-0 out of 5 stars excellent double album
todd rundgren really proves to be great in many different areas on this double album. he dabbles in a bunch of musical styles, writes some great songs with great melodies, produces everything, he's a one man band, he's a band leader, he's a one man carole king album, he gets heavy, and does some pretty weird experiments. one man... doing all of that! wow! listen and enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE THAT TODD

4-0 out of 5 stars Bowie and Eno Deliver the Unexpected
David Bowie's first collaboration with Brian Eno holds up remarkably well. Released in 1977, "Low" mixes the experimental with commercial pop -- leaning heavily toward atmospheric instrumentals. Highlights include "Speed of Life," "Always Crashing in the Same Car," "Be My Wife" and the classic "Sound and Vision." Not for all tastes, but a must for any Bowie aficionado.

5-0 out of 5 stars Portrait of Another World
The cover is the clue to this iconoclastic album. It's an altered still from "The Man Who Fell to Earth". When this was released on LP, the songs of the first side were leftovers from more commercial albums (somewhat like the second side of Abbey Road, where small piece of unfinished songs were turned into one of the must successful musical montages ever committed to vinyl.) Though Bowie presents more finished pieces, they are short but strange vignettes (my favorite is Always Crashing in the Same Car). But side two is where Eno steps in, and it helps to know that Eno and Bowie were continuing the mythology presented in "Man Who Fell to Earth". It's the portrait of an ancient, sophisticated world, tribal evidently, whose sun is becoming a red giant. Warzawa captures the spirit of this civilization. Art Decade is the memory of it's great past, in better times. Weeping Wall is conflict as water disappears and a planet loved by it's inhabitants dies before their eyes. Subterraneans are the temporary survivors, forced underground to eke out a much reduced life away from the sun that will eventually consume their world. The music is heart-breakingly noble, eloquent, tragic, melancholy. It's a history. A portrait of ending. And a tribute to a beautiful thing, now past. I recommend it to anyone who wishes to hear in music the the soul and spirit of an alien world.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Visionary Masterpiece
Out of my ridiculously extensive record collection, "Low" is in my Top Ten. I was floored when it was released because it combines the talents of two of my very favorite artists. This is the first album in what is now referred to as the Berlin Trilogy, Bowie's collaboration with composer/ambient god/theorist/producer Brian Eno. "Low" was followed by "'Heroes'" in '78 and "Lodger" in '79 and the subsequent music got progressively (regressively?) more pop/rock and less experimental. I should note that "Low" came out at the (arguable) height of the punk movement so it sounded like nothing out there at the time and after the hit-and-miss blue-eyed soul of "Young Americans" and "Station To Station", this was a consistently brilliant surprise.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Let Go" of Your Shekels and Buy This CD
I'm a latecomer to Nada Surf, and now I rue the lost time I could have spent replaying the songs of this excellent cd. LET GO is funny, plaintive, poignant, but not syrupy. Just when the material seems a bit melancholy, the next song is confident and upbeat.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Mellow Rock, For The Most Part
I think somebody compared Nada Surf to Toad the Wet Sprocket. I think it is a fair comparison. Most of the songs are mellow, guitar based numbers with a few faster songs thrown in. One of the latter types is "The Way You Wear Your Head" which is the reason I bought the CD. It's the best song on the CD in my opinion and one of my favorite all-time tunes. It may be an easy, pop-hook tune, but what's wrong with that? It's fun as heck!! Another song, "Hi-speed Soul" could very well be a Toad the Wet Sprocket song."Treading Water" is another faster paced song with good hooks. The rest are good, fairly mellow tunes which I enjoyed. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars I like it!
I think this is a good album. Not quit as good as the last one, but still good. I wasen't to thrilled with the first song, but it took off from there! My top picks would be: Happily Ever Cadaver, Faith in the Devil, My Home Sweet Homicide, and Till Death do us Party.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what the witch doctor ordered...
Fang Bang is the best horror metal/punk available.Wednesday 13 continues to take the lead (Zombie didn't put in that much effort on his latest). After a warm up 'Morgue Than Words' & 'American Werewolves In London', the album kicks into gear and rocks as hard as AC/DC on 'My Home Sweet Homicide' & 'Faith In The Devil'. The punk that rounds the album out is above standard. And by no means does this one leave out the creepy tunes, as evidenced by 'Curse Of Me' (the most Transylvania 90210'ish) & a soon to be Halloween classic cover 'Burn The Flames'.Don't let the naysayers put you off - this is 5 star material!

4-0 out of 5 stars It's October agian and you know what that means? 3.5 stars
Well is getting closer to Halloween again and Wednesday 13 has woken from his grave to give us another dose of tricks and treats.Maybe a little more trick than treat.Having discovered Wednesday 13's work two years ago I have been a diehard fan ever since.I was extremely excited for his next release.I will say I was a bit disappointed.Part of the reason for this is that it is the follow up album to "Transylvania 90210".That album is pure horror rock greatness that "Fang Bang" had a lot to live up to.Compared to "Transylvania 90210" I'm sorry to say "Fang Bang" comes up a bit short.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just short of perfect- I would give it 4.5 stars
Suffocation returns with their best CD in 10 years and some have been calling it Pierced From Within part 2.It's time to put the word out; Suffocation is back in full swing
2-0 out of 5 stars Doug Cerrito's absence is felt. And Mike Smith needs to step it up.
I'm not talking about chops and solos, because anyone can do that. I'm talking about WRITING. The writing on this album resembles the not-terribly-inspired writing of the last album, Souls to Deny. However, I do think that a big part of my disappointment stems from Mike Smith. He was one of the most innovative death metal drummers back in the day -- way ahead of his time. I mean, Effigy of the Forgotten has virtually every death metal drum pattern you'd hear over the next 15 years, plus Mike's own signature chops. But on this album I don't hear the innovation, nor do I hear the nuances that made him stand out years ago. I feel that even if they were to write the same riffs, but have more interesting drumming underneath, then the songs would be more interesting.
4-0 out of 5 stars Not their best, but still darn good
All veteran (metal) bands who have been around for more than a decade eventually face the challenge of competing with younger groups who have recently cropped up and stolen some of the spotlight. This happened to Pantera throughout the Nineties, and Suffocation are dealing with it now. The seminal grindcore quintet formed in 1990, and like Pantera, they have so far survived every musical trend (like grunge, funk metal, and nu-metal), and they're now competing with new-millennium bands who play deathcore, modern thrash, and metalcore.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the most influential albums of the 1970's
In my opinion, T.Rex is one of the most underated bands of all time. I also belive this is one of the greatest rock n' roll albums of all time. Next to Bowie's Ziggy Stardust, this is the most difinitive album of the Glam Rock era. Every song is great, and the extras make the album even better. Marc Bolan was a true musical genious, and one of the great forgotten artists. I would recomend this to any fan of old school rock.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Most Disappointing Album
I like Talking Heads.I have liked them since 1983, when Speaking in Tongues rocked my world.I have all of their records. I routinely defend David Byrne against the hipsters who despise his very existence.I have known and loved "The Name of This Band is Talking Heads" since I was in graduate school and played it on the tape loop in my volkswagen.
5-0 out of 5 stars Their best live set
When this was released on double LP twenty years ago, it offered an incredible overview of the Talkinh Heads live. Indeed it covers the early years up to the Remain in Light-era big band. Musically it is much more interesting that the Stop Making Sense soundtrack. The sound recording is maybe not as nice and Byrne's singing is not as polished. The playing is however much more strong. However the set represented is overall much stronger and it is also quite evident that the Remain In Light band was the best line-up simply. Songs such as The Great Curve are simly great and these versions are actually the definitive ones in my opinion. Rhino has again done a superb job by adding may songs to this beautiful CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Intro to Talking Heads: 101
Long time Talking Heads fan here. I had this on tape years ago and finally bought the CD - without question the best Talking Heads recording available. If you're new to the Talking Heads, this CD should be your "Intro to Talking Heads: 101". Having seen them numerous times in the '70's when in college in Providence, this CD truly captures the live energy and emotion they were known for. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars AFI goe out with a bang!
AFI's Art of Drowning, is their last good CD in my eyes. The era before Sing the Sorrow is a different one, its dark, gloomy, but still rocks. AFI died in my eyes when Sing the Sorrow was released. But the last song, Morningstar could of been tacked onto Sing the Sorrow, and it would of been in there perfectly. Don't bother with Sing the Sorrow or DecemberUnderground (their WORST album to date). If you want to see AFI shining in their true last days, buy The Art of Drowning.

5-0 out of 5 stars its my duty to write this review
ive written a lot of other reviews on AFI cds, but being that this one is my favorite, i cant pass it up. 2-0 out of 5 stars i gave it another chance, and still, its not too good
now, i gave this ablum a pretty nasty beating earlier, but i feel that it deserves more, not too great, but still...

5-0 out of 5 stars Bowie and Eno's sophomore effort.
In 1977, David Bowie and Brian Eno were riding a creative wave-- their first collaboration, "Low", was an artistic triumph and stands among the best work in the catalog of either musician. The followup, "Heroes", nearly equalled their first collaboration.
5-0 out of 5 stars There's no "Sense of Doubt" about this album: It's a classic
David Bowie and Brian Eno improved upon the already perfect 1977 album LOW with the ambitious HEROES. The album starts off with the legendary "Beauty and the Beast," and from that moment on it's obvious that this album defines Bowie's excursions in electronic, German-influenced music. It's the best Bowie album in the entire catalogue besides ZIGGY STARDUST, and one listen to each of the album's tracks is all it takes to realize this.
5-0 out of 5 stars Highroad Gone Right
Though Bowie laments about his highroad gone wrong in the opening track of this album, the general consensus is that his better music requires some insanity on the side.

Editorial Review

Good thing we live in an age of internet-accessible lyrics. Otherwise, millions of teenage girls might find themselves mumbling through this collection of burn-the-joint-down pop instead of belting it out, which will be not only their first instinct but also their feverish, feverish desire. As a flip through about any teen magazine confirms, the Veronicas are a pair of identical twins from Australia who ooze coltish charm, volatility, and an aversion to jugheaded songcraft. Their debut does not belie the glossy claims: "4ever," the single leading the flock, crashes the gate with a punk-slanting, slightly Avril Lavigne-y boy tease, and though the energy stalls a bit on sleepers like "Speechless" and "Nobody Wins," it more than resurrects itself with the smart lyrics of "Secret" and the lathered-on boldness of "Mother, Mother," the most smokin' track Lindsay Lohan never sang. Part Bangles, part Benatar, and all babe, the Veronicas have crafted a 12-song bender that crushes the short-skirted competition. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ONE AWESOME CD!!!!!
I remember the first time I heard 4ever and I hated it. I really dont know why though, for some reason I just couldnt like it. But after seeing the video many times on Mtv Hits and hearing it on the radio I slowly started to love it. I finally gave in and listened to the cd at a local cd store that lets you listen to cds before you buy them. I was completely stunned at how good the cd is. They really can sing and sound awesome together. The blend of their vocies at times sounds soo good it sounds as though its one person but then they break and sing the verses and you can tell its two completely different girls. My fave songs on the album are When It All Falls Apart, 4ever, Everything I'm Not, Secret, and Leave Me Alone.

3-0 out of 5 stars Shows Potential
Down under natives "The Veronicas" caught my attention with their single, Revolution. Had it not been for hearing that song by mistake, I'd have never even known they were making music. Revolution was catchy enough to make me want to buy the record, although after listening to it the whole way through, I'd have to say it was probably a mistake to do so. Unlike Avril or Skye Sweetnam, The Veronicas tend to hold back on the pop-punk energy (omit Revolution and 4ever), making for a somewhat generic listen. Another gripe I have is with the lyrics. They honestly could have been written better by a first grader, and that is NO lie.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome...
I just recently bought this album and I cannot stop playing it on my cd player. The songs are catchy and fun to listen to. "4ever" is a fun song that makes you want to dance and "Speechless" was done amazingly especially when we got to focus on the girl's voices. "Mother, Mother" was one of the songs that I did not particurlaly love but overall the rest of the songs is awesme an if you lover rhe Rock/Pop genre then I definetely recommend this to you. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A fantastic intro!
This may or may not be a definitive Doors collection, but one thing for sure it is a fantastic introduction! There's alot here to give one a true sense of what The Doors were all about, moments of poetic and musical genius. If you're curious about The Doors, then get this cd!
5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Collection
This is a great collection of Doors tunes. I'm glad that it's not a "Greatest Hits" compilation. I, for one, usually like an artist's songs that don't necesssarily lend themselves to popular opinion or radio play. Now the Doors did squeak- through some killer hit records. I remember when "Light My Fire" was my favorite song when I was seven (Good Lord, that's when it was first released!) It's still a great tune today and I think that the reason for that is that the Doors were so far ahead of their time. I believe they truly "broke on through" the doors of perception and decided to graciously take some of us along. Now, as the liner notes (well done!) mention, some of their songs were very primal, sexual, and I like those as well. It was a reflection of the times, man, when doors of inhibition were being kicked- in as well. I think this collection is a good representation of their psychedelic (nobody does it better!) and bawdy tunes. Many of these (probably half) have been added to my MP3 player so I can jam onthem anywhere and relive some awesome times. The sound is great, the liner notes cool and a wonderful collection of photos. Once again, Rhino has really delivered. Dig it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Virtually all the Doors you need...
...which is both a good and bad thing. At least four tracks from each of the Jim Morrison-era Doors studio albums can be found on this album. Eight songs (Break On Through, Soul Kitchen, The Crystal Ship, Twentieth Century Fox, Alabama Song, Light My Fire, Back Door Man and The End) were taken from the debut. Believe it or not, if you were to swap out the weak Alabama Song for the much-better End of the Night, you have the best of that LP! Six tunes were pulled from Strange Days (Strange Days, Love Me Two Times, People Are Strange, When the Music's Over, Moonlight Drive, My Eyes Have Seen You), but two of them were unnecessary: While The End was brilliant, When the Music's Over is endless, with lyrics that range from bland to ridiculous. In other words, eleven minutes of wasted space. And My Eyes Have Seen You was unnecessary. The next five tunes come from Waiting for the Sun. Smash hit Hello I Love You doesn't add much to this collection, but is a catchy song. Still, you'd be better off with the four first-rate songs from that album: Five to One (the Doors' best song not to be found on the debut), Spanish Caravan, The Unknown Soldier
