5-0 out of 5 stars The only CD set you'll ever need
I didn't know I was a Clash fan until I bought this CD set. I went to the store and saw it on the rack. There were four songs that I already knew and figured there'd be at least a few more I would like so I bought it. Out of the 40 songs, I can listen to atleast 22 over and over and over again and never get sick of them! I copied the my favorite songs onto another disk and put it in my car's CD player... I haven't put another disk in in over six months. For the amount of great music you'll get, there isn't a better value out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Beatles of Punk
Out of all the classic punk-rock groups, the Clash were the most skilled, most important, and best. From their days of loud, intense screaming which you can barely understand (White Riot, London's Burning, Complete Control) to the London Calling/Sandinista! (not sure if I spelt that right) era, when they were experimenting with everything, to their last days, the Essential Clash covers the Clash perfectly, with very few fillers.
5-0 out of 5 stars This Is Real Punk!
Forget bands like Green Day and Good Charlotte. For real punk rock, I suggest going back to the core, to the originators, such as The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, and my personal favorite, The Clash. The Clash define punk rock for me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Overall a GREAT soundtrack
Was expecting all songs in the movie to be in this CD and was somewhat disappointed; HOWEVER, the remaining songs are still GREAT!

3-0 out of 5 stars Missing Songs
It would be much better if they included every song from the movie, but they definitely did not. The first song in the opening credits is call No Sleep Tonight by The Faders. IF you search Yahoo Movies, you can find a list of every song used in the movie.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great music, not so great recording quality
After I heard the NPR story on the Heartless [..], I ran out to get their new CD.Erika Wennerstrom has an incredible voice and a knack for writing songs that stick in your head.Listen to "Came a Long Way" and "All This Time" for a good taste of what they do.My only complaint is the recording quality - it almost sounds like it was recorded in a barrel. The bass guitar is too heavy, and the bass is boomy.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good but somewhat boring
The first track on this album is very very good.Track 5 and 6 are the only other songs that caught my attention. I think this bands sound would be better if they added another guitar player. I do think it is admirable that the bastards sophmore release sounds different from Stairs and Elevators and is produced really well. Windstrom has a great voice and is a very good songwriter I would imagine this band will continue to grow and find there sound.

4-0 out of 5 stars More than solid sophomore album
One of the most ecxiting new bands to come out of Cincinnati in recent years is the Heartless [...] (urrgh, what a TERRIBLE band name), a power trio led by singer-songwriter-guitarist Erila Wennerstrom. 18 months after the release of their very promising debut album "Stairs and Elevators" now comes the second album.

With their interstellar (really!) lyrics and angular song structures, Modest Mouse tend to defy their self-deprecating band name. In truth, the trio's got some lofty ambitions, and The Moon and Antarctica indulges their grand dreams with pristine production and a vivid sonic backdrop. It also dives deeply into their geographical obsessions--always with the same subjective twists that made Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Album
Modest Mouse made the transition to major label artist very well with this record. An expertly crafted collection of music, with pristine production quality (a first for the band) and a handful of excellent songs. In my opinion, the album is front-loaded, with the best songs being sequenced at the first half.Towards the middle of the album the songs begin to meander a bit, but don't weigh the other songs down much as they are able to maintain the overall atmosphere and mood of the album very well. The last few songs on the album are great, and make up for the forementioned spacy, mildly uninteresting songs of the album's midsection.
5-0 out of 5 stars This is why...
...I consider Modest Mouse to be one of my favorite bands. While I enjoy their previous work and their latest release 'Good News For People Who Love Bad News', none of those albums can touch 'Moon'.
5-0 out of 5 stars Tripping with Modest Mouse
These three guys are obsessed with space and distances, guess that's what the North West does to you. It is spacy, meandering, but also vibrant. If they were aboriginals, they would sing their surroundings while driving through America.

The Pogues aren't great musicians. They're not great at rock and if you want great Irish music you'd be better off with Planxty, Patrick Street or Danu. But the Pogues are unique, entertaining, touching and influential.

Don't be nervous about buying this CD. It is an amazing listen. All the songs are crisp excellent quality full of fresh melodies. Some slowed pacers, fast pacers, good dancing fun. Old fan or new get Rum Sodomy & the Lash.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic
This kinda reminds me of the way saves the day had their sophomore effort which blew up and became popular. The mixing is about the same. Every Second Counts does not compare to this album. This defines their sound and original composure. They kinda varied off into commonville with the release of Every Second counts, but this release, is distorted enough to not get annoying and crafted beautifully. The pop nature of Plain white t's is becoming popular and this album is one of the contenders in that category. And to set the record straight, there is only one acoustic number on here and it is Hey There Delilah.

4-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Acoustic
I really, really love this CD. I was hooked indefinetely when I heard "Hey the Delilah".
3-0 out of 5 stars Buy it if you've already got their other cd.
"Hey there Delilah" is the obvious standout on this one. The rest of the album is also good, but it's the reason to keep it in rotation. If you're debating which album to buy, go for Stop and come back for this one later. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Promosing Future For This Band..........
It definitely took me by surprise. each song has a purpose.... and yes she can actually sing!, and best of all it doesn't sound forced like those wannabe fem artists ex: hillary duff, ashlee simpson.... you get the idea!) i feel that the success of the band will rely more on what they are willing to push instrumentally, and from what i'm hearing they are definitely headed in a promising direction... i beeen listening to bands like emery saosin, and this band definitely is holding it down, but most of all showing a real female artist coexsist with the music, rather than cram it down our throats... can't wait to see what is more in store!

5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, I too am in love with this adorable singer
Ok, lets get past the fact that this girl will turn out to be the next gwen stafani - she's smoking hot. The music rocks too, the lyrics are heartfelt, they are not as cheesey as they appear to be, this is a solid release. 16-years-old, right at the prime of the suffring years - perfect for songs that tug at your heart strings. The whole band is talented. The song structures may be basic, but damn they get stuck in your head. And they sound just as good live - this girl can sing!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Don't Get Excited, It's Just An OK Album
I really had high hopes for this CD.I really did. After hearing Emergency a few times I was hooked and decided to buy the CD.I wasn't looking for anything revolutionary, or even anything unique.I just wanted something catchy.Plus, the sticker on the jewel case said that it was like Jimmy Eat World with female vocals so I was totally on board.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sublime
Although not quite as utterly phenomenal as their peerless debut, and hardly comparable to the abrasive sonic assault of White Light/White Heat, the Velvet's epynomous third album does indeed stand up on its understated, simple, yet hauntingly poignant set of folk and garage inspired rock/pop. Despite their avant-garde inclinations, most of Lou Reed and Co's (of course this being the first album without John Cale) songs were still elementally 'pop' - with recogniseable song structures, melodies.etc. This probably refines and simplifies that which was glimpsed at in the Velvet Underground and Nico.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best VU album, and a must-have
This also makes a better intro to the group than any compilation, since it balances the sleazy decadence and bizarre experimentation of the first two albums with the pop savvy of Loaded, throwing in a few sensitive ballads that turn out to be among the group's best work. For starters, the fragile, heartbreaking Pale Blue Eyes steals the show in its own understated way. Candy Says comes close, though, an excellent introspective number from the prespective of a drag queen who wants escape from the underground (no pun intended) scene. Newcomer John Cale provided his best vocals for the group, too.
5-0 out of 5 stars Reed takes control for the classic self-titled album
After two mold-breaking classic albums, "The Velvet Underground and Nico" (1967) and "White Light/White Heat," (1968) founding member John Cale was fired from the group and replaced by Doug Yule. While the loss of the avant-garde classically trained Cale, arguably the most artistic member of the band, in favor of the vanilla Yule, may have seemed like a major misstep, it actually wasn't a hindrance at all. While Cale and Reed were both sort of copilots on the first two albums, the loss of Cale and the addition of Yule gave Reed full artistic carte-blanche, allowing him to point the band in the direction that he wanted to go. While Cale favored experimentation and an abrasive sound, Reed favored a softer, more polished one. This is clearly evident on "The Velvet Underground," (1969) the band's first post-Cale album, which is far less course and far more conventional than its predecessors.

5-0 out of 5 stars My opinion...
I'm not going to lie I wasn't a huge fan of this whole album when I first listened to it the day it came out.I had heard four or five of the songs previously (live or on compilations) and liked all of them, but some of the other songs I didn't care for.But instead of tossing it to the side I listened to it again. It didn't take long for it to grow on me and probably within the next couple of days, I loved it.I now listen to it practically over and over.Yes, it is a lot different from "E. Von Dahl...", but it's a good different. The guys were pretty young when they wrote the first album and this shows how they've matured and grown, both musically and as people.I suggest that if you buy the album (which I, of course, recommend that you do) and you don't like it at first, give it another listen or two. This cd brings out so many different emotions for me, and I just love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Cd of the Year
If you like music, then this cd is for you. There is alittle bit of punk, some opera tones, some heart felt songs. When I hear this band it always makes me smile. This album is full of producers and with that comes 4 guys who are full of passion and would give anything to make music.
5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best music I have heard in a LONG time!
I will get straight to the point, you are either going to fall deeply in love with this album or you are going to strongly dislike it.I am deeply in love with it.Forget VDKTL which don't get me wrong is a great album and one of my favorites, but decomposer is a completely different piece of work. You will realize this right from the first couple notes of Salty Eyes.It was apparent from VDKTL that The Matches were trying to create something unique. With Decomposer they have succeeded in creating something special and unique. It's hard but soft, electrifying but smooth. The album definitely flows great. It's predictable yet extremely unpredictable.I really don't think there is anything to compare it to.If you are a fan of music and have been hoping that someone would finally go beyond the norm and experiment a little bit, this album was made especially for you!! ... I loved The Fire Theft, and hope that they put out another album sometime, but this is just amazing. Like someone else stated, this is not a Frog Quenn sequel. In many ways, its almost like a 2nd Fire Theft album. It is a progression from what he was going for on that album in many ways, but a more mellowed out version. He sated that many of the songs werewritten to be on the 2nd Fire Theft album. This album holds some gems that rank at the top of all teh material Jeremy has released over the hears, in all his different bands and what not.

Just as Green Day aped the Ramones, their contemporaries in this Southern California punk quartet aspired to be the Clash. But also like Green Day, Rancid's fresh approach and excellent songs (including the ska-punk MTV hit "Time Bomb" and the anthemic "Roots Radicals") rose far above tribute-band level. 4-0 out of 5 stars this really isn't a review just a thought
I started reading some of these reviews and the whole "rip-off"/"wannabe" clash thing came up a lot. Yes this record in particular does have a lot of clash influence. but than again were SLF heavily influenced by the clash as well? and weren't the clash influenced by the ramones? then again who wasn't?

5-0 out of 5 stars Not for the "punk was dead in 1986" types.
First off, to all the jaded and grumpy punk elitists, I feel for you.I really do.Punk is probably the most afflicted of any music genre. But if your sole purpose of writing a review is to "school" the ignorant and tell Rancid fans to listen to Op Ivy and The Descendants and The Ramones and Bad Religion etc, you're wasting your time.

4-0 out of 5 stars David Bowie - 'Aladdin Sane' (Virgin) 4 1/2 stars
Review number 68.Originally released in 1973, as this was Bowie's stunning follow-up to the 'Ziggy Stardust' album. Many have stated that 'Aladdin Sane' is a stronger, harder and stranger work than 'Ziggy...'. Not sure if I totally agree with that, but I do like both lp's. Basically, just all around great '70's British hard rocking/glam rock, the WAY it should be. Best cuts here, without a doubt are "Drive-In Saturday",the title track "Aladdin Sane","The Prettiest Star",his nicely done cover of the Stone's "Let's Spend The Night Together" and the late night FM staple "Jean Genie" (never get burned out on this gem). After listening to this on CD for the first time,I can only say this piece might've very well been one of guitarist Mick Ronson's (R.I.P.) best work ever. Recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Of Bowie's Best
I have listened to this album and liked it since I was a teen. It is a world class effort with some wicked guitar and sexy nasty vocals. My favorite tracks are "Panic In Detroit" and "Cracked Actor". All of the songs are good and a must for anyone into Bowie.

4-0 out of 5 stars a very fun glam album
I feel like I am being unfair comparing this album to Ziggy Stardust and Hunky Dory (Bowie's previous masterpieces), but since Bowie, as an artist is so unique and truly had nobody remotely like him in the 70's (even amongst the glam-rockers) - I am obliged to do this..disservice.Aladdin Sane, while being a collection of amazing songs does not hold together as well as 'Ziggy' or 'Hunky'...that being said - what great songs! 'cracked actor' is a favorite of mine! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Best known for their alumni (Rod Stewart, the Stones' Ron Wood, the Who's Kenny Jones), the Faces' brief early '70s run was as musically rewarding as it was boozy and sideshow spectacular. A revamped, bluesier edition of '60s English pop notables the Small Faces, the Faces established a rollicking musical identity that threatened to overshadow the Stones at their own game. Though the group dissolved under the pressures of Stewart's burgeoning solo career and Wood's recruitment into comfortable career Stonedom, the Faces were about much more than just individual talents. The folksy vulnerability of the late bassist, songwriter, and vocalist Ronnie Lane (well-represented here by "Debris" and "Ooh La La") kept the lads close to roots both geographical and class, while keyboardist Ian McLagen alternated between barrelhouse-boogie and Hammond B-3 soulfulness and Jones loosely locked into irresistible grooves. They could pillage Motown ("Three Button Hand Me Down") and Chuck Berry ("Cindy Incidentally") for riffs, and turn from countrified blues ("Sweet Lady Mary") to the breakneck boogie of "Too Bad" in a heartbeat. They may have been cheated of hits, but the Faces' music remains warm, heartfelt, and enthusiastic--a legacy that's aged much better than the cheap hootch they once drowned themselves in. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars More great stuff from Yellowcard
The hard stuff is some of their best. Kind of like later Journey, they focused a bit too much on the slower side, but the album is a great listen. Song #4, "Sure thing falling" has one of the best guitar riff intros I've ever heard, but you are sorry to hear it end as the song softens up, but the album is a good one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mature
I like the little more classic sound on this album, I think that it's a very mature album by Yellowcard.

If any of you have heard the last CD Yellowcard made, then be prepared for a different sound. Ocean Avenue is a lot different than this new CD. The Lights and Sounds CD was a great CD. I'm gonna rate the songs in my opinion.

Editorial Review

There's a lot to be said for continuity and high concept, and Coheed and Cambria have invented an elaborate geeky parallel sci-fi world that spread over four CDs. If you follow the story line, it unfolds like some punk Harry Potter series; equally ambitious and didactic and almost as tightly written as the Moody Blues' "Days of Future Passed." You can also listen to each of the albums without a thought about the story and marvel at the musicianship, the intricately layered guitars, Claudio Sanchez's overwrought and rather pinched vocals and the sheer imagination displayed by these four musicians whose idiosyncratic emo seamlessly flows into prog rock. Epic, surreal, bigger than life, and utterly unlike anything you've heard in decades--even Geddy Lee expounding on free will. -- Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars 3.5 Actually
This is a pretty good album. I'd have to say that this is my favorite from this band and the production is top notch, allowing every element their space within the mix. I still find the lead singer's voice a tad annoying. It's got that munchkin meets a warbling bird (tons of vibrato to his voice). I like the overall super-geek concept of the band and the songs. I also like the little touches of sound design used throughout the album that give it more of an epic feel.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good Apollo I'm Loving this Album
Coheed & Cambria and their whole series of adventures might seem a little geeky. But hey everyone has a little geek in them! Second Stage Turbine Blade (Technically the second album, the first album will be released as a prequel) was very good also and simmiliard to Good Apollo, then came in Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3, which was also wonderful but less so than the follow up album Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV: From Fear through the Eyes of Madness Volume I. Yes! Volume ONE!. There will be a TWO which makes the cd total five not four. This album included many wonderful songs a few leaning more towards Led Zeppelin style rock such as the song Welcome Home. Other good songs are Ten Speed, Crossing the Frame, Apoll I and II, The Suffering, The Lying Lies and Dirty Secrets of Miss Erica Court, and The Final Cut all very good songs. Believe me, even if you have never listened to the other albums buy this one! It will get you hooked! (A note: It really does not deserve its explicit lyric label. The album only swears briefly.)

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best albums out there.
Coheed and Cambria's 3rd effort is, without question, a master piece. After displaying more of a pop-rock oriented sound with "In Keeping Secrets...", the band returns to more of the sound displayed in "Second Stage..."

Editorial Review

Like most true originals, the Ramones embodied a dizzying array of contradictions. As punk godfathers, they became the archetype for a rebellious musical ethos that could often confuse the baby for the bath water, yet at heart they were 1960s pop- and bubblegum-worshipping reactionaries. The seeming unity symbolized by their street-hood uniform (ripped jeans, deck shoes, and black leather jackets) and name (nicked from an early Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Ramones Anthology
If you're looking at this, and you're not a Ramones fan already, I know what you're probably thinking -- "I have to listen to 22 songs just to get to 'I Wanna Be Sedated'??"But I implore you to resist the temptation: Do not get "Loud Fast," do not get "Ramones Mania."Get the Ramones Anthology.
5-0 out of 5 stars prontuario...
MUY RECOMENDABLE recopilacion de una banda que demostro que la sencillez, la ingenuidad, la ignorancia y el resentimiento pueden llegar a ser ingredientes y justificativo de la explosiva e incoherente actitud de toda una generacion............
