1-0 out of 5 stars COME ON NOW
Honestly who in their right mind gives these guys a record deal. They are a true example of the MTV music video money gubbin record producers world of music. I mean these kinds of bands are destroying the music world. I can prove it first of all these guys songs are not meant to appeal to the music fan they are to appeal to girls so that they all will come to their concert and become groupees so they can have sex. They don't feature any instrument whatsoever. There is no such thing as an instrument solo and if there is it's just a rif. And third of all the lead singer for Fall Out Boy sounds excactly like that of Panic! At The Disco. That just goes to show you how copycat the music industry is. In the world of music every great band has a sound that makes them unique from everyone else. They also show off their musical talent alot. Fall Out Boy does not do that which is why I am givnig this 1 star.

Editorial Review

It's hard to resist a singer who fully indulges her sexual obsessions on CD, especially when they involve songs about transsexuals and--to paraphrase a bit--girls who leave out used condoms on their bedroom dressers to make their boyfriends jealous. And that's just Amanda Palmer in her tamer moments. As the mouthpiece for the carnival-like Dresden Dolls, she certainly knows how to scintillate. The Boston cabaret-punk duo's second album is a no-holds-barred affair that sees her singing about Nazi sympathizers ("Mrs.O") and bedroom antics ("First Orgasm") with equal zest, while the music she bangs out with drummer Brian Viglione fits the very definition of perverse. For some, it's the soundtrack to a kabuki-faced nightmare; for others, the stuff of strangely captivating dreams. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars CONTROVERSIAL....
It's easy to spend the following review telling you how talented, intelligent and special Amanda Palmer is. That goes without saying. I think for a change though we should kick things off with a little controversy. Brian Viglione might be one of the best drummers in popular music. Imaginative and complex. He supports and enriches the following fifty minutes like a full orchestra. If you need further proof do yourself the favour of checking out there live DVD `Paradise' fast forward to Half Jack (Still there most effective song, there `Everlong' if you will.) and watch his frankly AMAZING drum solo over the intro.
5-0 out of 5 stars They've never head of a sophmore slump
Wow.From the piano at the beginning of "Sex Changes" I knew I was going to like this CD.I think it's a little more accessible the their self-titled album, but unlike many artists, they haven't lost themselves in the process of making this one.

Every single one of you that gave blink 182's greatest hits a 1 star still liked them but didnt like the selection of songs they put on the greatest hits.......blink 182 sucks period.
4-0 out of 5 stars Some pretty good songs, but....
This CD has several good songs on it but the majority of songs on it, in my opinion, are not great. I WOULD RECOMMEND buying this CD IF you like Blink-182, and you don't mind buying a CD with some songs that aren't great.

Editorial Review

The precursor to Bowie's masterpiece, The Rise And Fall of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars, Hunky Dory points in many of the same musical directions as Ziggy, with Bowie camping it up outrageously through a mixture of cabaret piano, coquettish lyrics and soaring vocals. After the hard rock "The Man Who Sold The World", Mick Ronson's guitar is turned down in favour of plenty of piano and acoustic guitar, as Bowie proves his mettle as a masterful singer-songwriter. Not a dull note is struck on the whole album, which flits from opener "Changes" to the vampy "Oh! You Pretty Thing" to the heart-wrenching "Life On Mars" with a seemingly impeccable ear for a tune. Flirty, sexy and irresistibly seductive. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars love this album
amazing. rick wakemen from yes plays piano in this and plays better than I have ever heard him play in anything else that he did apart from yes. intenese and unique. listen to this. a genuine record. harmonies and instruments fit together perfect the sort of intensity that only Bowie could pull off. best songs are life on mars, andy warhol, and the bewley brothers, and oh you pretty boy. i enjoy the lyrics. anyone have anything to reccomend to me?

4-0 out of 5 stars Some fine moments but not as strong as ZIGGY overall
Those pointing out this disc is not a 'rocker' are correct: Mick Ronson's guitar is seldom allowed to strut his stuff here so those who only like jam-o-ramas will think this one is "weak". Instead, there's a lot of focus on strong piano lines to guide the melodies here (YES' Rick Wakeman on the ivories). Midtempo poppers like the well-known "Changes" and "Oh! You Pretty Things" exemplify the sound here.

Green Day managed to produce another great heart pounding punk-rock gem. You get:
5-0 out of 5 stars Green Day Rocks in Concert!
After seeing Bullet in a Bible on FUSE, I knew that I needed to get this CD/DVD. Some may disagree with Samuel Bayer's choice in camera changes during the movie but I personally didn't find any problem with it. It sort of captures the spirit of the band itself, coming at you from many directions and you never know what's going to happen next. Green Day is AWESOME in concert and this DVD is evidence of it. From Billie Joe's crazy antics in St. Jimmy to his heroic and heartfelt performance of Wake Me Up When September Ends, Green Day shows it's versatility as a band and their highly polished skills as musicians/entertainers.
4-0 out of 5 stars Green DayBullet In A Bible(Live Album)
This is a great album 14 songs 65:36. All of the songs are live for one thing. Green Day makes realy good LIVE albums. I realy like the part where they introduces a band named Green Day at the end of Brain Stew or Basket Case. But otherwise it is realy great, especilly if you are a true Green Day fan. Whats great about it is you get alot of the new songs but you also get some of the songs from older albums like Nimrod, Warning, Shanegins, and Isonomic.

Call them the Nine Inch Nails of punk. Like NIN, the Offspring preserve the essential ingredients of their chosen genre--guitars grinding out three chords, shouted vocals, and plenty of vitriol--and layer them over a melodic base that packs considerable popular appeal. The singles from Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Offsprings' Best Release To Date
The Offspring has always been a fairly unique band. Even today they still are able to produce good sounding punk style music even with all of the mainstream radio and emo punk taking over the airwaves. Back then, in 1994, Instead of going up against bands like Nickelback or Fall Out Boy they were up against Alice n' Chains and Nirvana and still managed to sell a great deal of albums. Smash is probably the best album they have ever put out. The overall sound of everything on the album is just great. It's its own masterpiece. Just one big energetic, angsty, skate punk attitude album. I love the whole thing. Although, my favorite tracks would have to be "Gotta Get Away", "Come Out and Play", "Self Esteem", and "Smash". Pretty much everythings amazing though. Here's what I think of each track...
5-0 out of 5 stars Will always be a smash!
Ive been listening to this album for what feels like forever. and i still analyse the songs and relate. For those who know the offspring and what there newer albums have to offer please for the love of god check this out and it will be a life changing experience.. then thank me! After all who else writes legendary lines like "if you look away, you'll be doing what they say, and if you look alive you will be singled out and tried" i mean who? Also(going off the album) you get a cance to see them live, the atmosphere created is one of a kind.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE OFFSPRING'S BEST!
this has got to be the offspring's best album ever! with the classics "come out and play", and "self esteem" this IS a classic! "gotta get away", "bad habit", and "nitro (youth energy)" are a couple more of the great songs on this CD. so if you're thinking about listening to any of the offspring's albums - this should definetly be your first choice! the songs in the beginning are better than the ways later on the album.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nimrod- Possibly a classic with more editing
It's amazing how Green Day never release a dud album. Sure, everything between Dookie and American Idiot was largely unpopular. But if you ignore the critisism and actually listen to some of these albums, you may well be suprised if you have your doubts.
4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
Nimrod is a very good album by Green day. It has alot of good songs. My favorite and what i think is one of their greatest songs "time of your life" and it is the best one on the cd. It is overall a decent Green day album.

5-0 out of 5 stars Too great for words...
Tell me how in the hell a band like Green Day with their simple guitar and drum rythyms get to be so big and an alternative meets punk band like SD doesnt get near the props they should? Its all marketing strategy in my opinion.SD blows the lid off with this album.Johnny Cash's remake, Ring of Fire totally rocks along with the jazzy lyrics of story of my life and sick boy make you think about the "good times" that everyday people can relate to...a perfect five stars for me.This is easy listening that anyone can enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Favorite "New" Band since College
Every song is superb.Driving, running, daydreaming, this Social D classic makes me feel young and glad my hearing is still good."She's a Knockout" is as good as any song I've heard since college."Ring of Fire" is the only cover and it's worthy of the original."Story of My Life" is the best song and its lyrics are as good as the incredible music.Buy this CD and then "Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell" and you won't regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars SD rocks 15+ years later
Wow, this is such a great album throughout. One bonus is that it's relatively short and there are no wasted, throwaway tracks.

I bought this new version because of the great job Buddah Records did a few years back with Rock and Roll Heart and The Bells in remastering. I was hoping for more of the same from RCA/Legacy but it's not quite as good.

Emo-rock band Jimmy Eat World exemplify all that is the modern radio rock sound. Singing and playing with a conviction and sincerity that will melt the heart of even the most stoic of listeners, they produce rousing, well-crafted anthems along the lines of Third Eye Blind at their roughest or a more polished Green Day. These guys appear to be able to write ready-made singles at the drop of a hat, as evidenced by "Your House" as well as the title track. In fact, there is a rather shocking maturity to their material that belies the band members' ages (all in their 20s). While they sometimes veer into cringe-worthy power-ballad territory, overall Jimmy Eat World give the people what they want with Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Emo Album Ever?
...That's a good question! Thus begging the question, what are the best Emo albums?Well The Green Album has to be noticed, Weezer's influence on the genre to obvious to ignore. The Used gets several votes, Ocean Avenue not far behind, Panic!'s debut deserves some recognition for its current popularity, All Killer No Filler's inconsistent but a classic...Any more?Well sure if you count American Idiot, From Under The Cork Tree, Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, and a few other wannabes but are those albums really quality? No.So is the commercial break though and best ever effort from one of the new millenniums most talent artists the greatest Emo album in existence?I say yes.Nothing beats `Bleed American', a new age anthem in the prestigious vein of `One Step Closer' and `Crawling In The Dark.'And with `A Praise Chorus', `The Middle', and of course everyone's favorite, `Sweetness', Jimmy Eat World has three of New Rock's grandest and most memorable songs.Even softer numbers `Here You Me' and `If You Don't, Don't' (which by the way, has excellent lyrics) have a special something that sets them apart from other mangled Emo ballads (i.e. the new Dashboard album). One complaint common among JEW fans is that the second half slightly lowers the quality bar;in other words `Cautioners' and `The Authority Songs' lack the quality of the anthems in front, thus creating some filler allegations. There are two problems with that argument:First, what songs are as good as `A Praise Chorus' and `Sweetness'?Not many period.Just because `Lounge Act' and `Drain You' aren't as good as `Teen Spirit' and `In Bloom' doesn't mean that they are filler, and it certain doesn't mean that Nevermind loses its impact during the second half.Because after all, what's as good as `Teen Spirit' and `In Bloom'?And secondly, it's not true anyways.I enjoyed the second half just as much as the first, especially after the first few listens where I just played the first three songs over and over.In the end, Jimmy Eat World has timeless classic written all over it.Classic Rock for the Emo generation.

4-0 out of 5 stars 4 1/2 stars for the third album.
This was the first cd by JEW that I bought little knowing that they would soon become my favorite bands of all time. They have a very soft way about them that can only be explained as brilliant. The closest comparison I can come up with is a more diverse, mature, and stupendously lyrical version of Death Cab for Cutie. It is amazing that they were this far ahead of their time when they were about 21. If you haven't listened to this album, I would very strongly consider this to be your first JEW album and then get the better CD clarity. But for you who have listened and are curious about my favorite tracks, here is a list of them:
5-0 out of 5 stars Who cares about the genre?
alot of peoples reviews have been moaning about it being an emo album, or a pop album. I dont know if it is pop, punk, emo, pop-punk, punk-emo, all i know is that this is a very underated album. there are no songs on this album that i want to skip, it has slow and fast songs, and catchy guitar riffs(i think the word im looking for is riffs)so all in all i think if most people listen to it with an open mind they will enjoy it. if you start slaging it of before you have even heard it, the you wont ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Heels over head for Boys Like Girls
What a diamond in the rough this turned out to be!I went to the Butch Walker show in Minneapolis back in August not having a clue who Boys Like Girls were and half-way through their opening song I was hooked. They had a very good stage presence and I got to meet Martin afterwards and it was just a very pleasant surprise.
4-0 out of 5 stars Nice Debut
Saw these guys open for Butch Walker in Boston a couple months ago and they played a nice set. Since I liked what I heard I picked up the album. Good stuff, give it a listen.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great New Band, Must have CD !!!
This debut album is a great buy !!!.If you've never heard of them, get ready to enjoy some catchy tunes that almost everyone can relate to.Five Minutes to Midnight is my personal favorite, with Dance Hall Drug and Heels Over Head tied for a close second, but the entire album is very good, very catchy, and very listenable.Listen to this CD once and you'll be singing along, moving your feet and just diggin' the groove.

3-0 out of 5 stars Strange Days, Indeed
Since my youth I have had an ear for roots music, whether I was conscious of that fact or not. The original of that interest first centered on the blues, then early rock and roll and later, with the folk revival of the early 1960's, folk music. I have often wondered about the source of this interest. I am, and have always been a city boy, and an Eastern city boy at that. Nevertheless, over time I have come to appreciate many more forms of roots music than in my youth. The subject of the following review is an example.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the essential 60's albums.
I like most of the Doors albums--they all have certain qualities that make them unique. But "Strange Days" is on a level all by itself...not only when compared to other Doors albums, but all albums of this genre. As my poor mother said when she heard me playing it for the first time back in '67: "He sounds like a depressed crazy." She must have heard "Horse Latitudes!" Back then when parents would say something like that, you knew you were on to something! This is just a deeply dark, emotional piece of art set to haunting rhythms...the Doors "blue period"...even the bluish hued album cover conjures memories from the movie "Freaks." If I were to leave a time capsule from the 60's, I'd almost be afraid to put this ablum in the capsule just because the finders would think we were a bunch of depressed psychotics! Without going through all the songs, since this album is truely on a par with "Abbey Road" in that everyone is very familiar with all of the songs on this album--but from beginning to end each song paints a blue image in black light psychedelia of existing and impending doom...with the exception of "Love me Two Times" which, when compared to the other songs, sounds light hearted! Written by Robby Krieger, it seems a little misplaced on this album. Robby Krieger finally stepped to the foreground and played some great 60's, west coast guitar, something that was pretty much missing from the first album; I always thought the first album was a little heavy with the organ and a little light with the guitar...that evened out with Strange Days. This is an essential 60's album; without it, your collection is missing the dark psychedelic mood that sometimes permeated the 60's not to mention several great great songs. Besides, this album contains the audible "scream of the butterfly"--probably the only time it has been heard since time began. This album came at a time when the Doors were at their creative peak; before all the drugs, booze and notariety took its inevitable toll. I think it is their most creative and interesting album.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, Dark Psychedelia
The Doors had already achieved mainstream success with their smash hit album "The Doors", and from the hype that came of that exceptional studio album, they knew their follow-up album would have to be commercially appealling. "Strange Days", while producing several radio hits, can ultimately be seen as the band's most eerie, psychedelic work.

4-0 out of 5 stars Once again, Great Sound, (Good) Lyrics
My purpose in highlighting (good) lyrics is that the lyrics are NOT as good as the sound. They are occasionally quite catchy, and sometimes even worshipful, but most of the time these guys are singing in metaphores. WHY OH WHY! But I am definately impressed with the mature musical sound these guys have developed, and semi proud of their lyrics compared to complete ride the fence bands like "Switchfoot."
5-0 out of 5 stars Loads of fun, depth, and great music on a tiny disk! Rock!
First off, I really enjoyed 'Letters to the President.'I thought it was a great debut for Hawk Nelson. There was enough fun and depth through it that I could really see them going places, and I hoped they would.

2-0 out of 5 stars The Unsolved Mystery
There are certain unsolved mysteries in life. The existence of the Loch Ness Monster.Jimmy Hoffa's whereabouts. The popularity of the Hold Steady.I bought this album after various media outlets from NPR to the New York Times fell all over themselves to proclaim these guys the New Saviours of Rock.I don't get it.If these guys are the Next Big Thing, then maybe rock and roll really is dead.
5-0 out of 5 stars "The Perfect Debut"
Some of the best lyrics I have heard in quite sometime.Oh, and also...This album ROCKS! Get it NOW! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Welcome to the Tragic Kingdom!
This is the best album No Doubt has ever made. I still remember in 1996 when don't speak was No.1 for long weeks. I thunk this song is the best No doubt has ever made. A performance deserving a standing ovation. The rate lies down:
5-0 out of 5 stars Fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Roxy Masterpiece- 5 stars ain't enough!
This album is by far the best of Roxy's catalogue (I own all their albums except Heart Still Beating and Live 2001). It deserves 10 STARS! If you buy only one Roxy studio album (hard not to, they're all bloody brilliant, even a few tracks of Manifesto), this must be it! Here are my opinions on the tracks:
5-0 out of 5 stars What a Great Album!
This album is everything that is good about Roxy Music. It's hard to imagine any album that so perfectly encompasses what they're all about. Don't let the racy sleeve make you think this album is trying to sell itself on that. It rocks all the way through, and it just sounds like a great exercise in how to sound stylish and not at all boring.
5-0 out of 5 stars It's the COUNTRY LIFE for me !!
For the fan of ROCK and ROLL who loves immediately memorable hooks accompanied with amazingly hard driving Pop Rock.No one who LOVES rock and roll couldn't love "The Thrill Of It All" or "Casanova" or any other song on this superb album. This is the hot whip crack ROXY MUSIC; the band that does not have a bad album, but despite the bickering between fans that occur due to allegiances to particular incarnations (all the way through AVALON) COUNTRY LIFE is undoubtedly one of their very best.Brian Ferry could not stop writing wonderful, masterful, Rock and Roll songs, exploring all of their roots, which come to fruition with this album and Roxy's next masterpiece SIREN.COUNTRY LIFE is one of the 1970s most fun, resonant, compelling, and, well, offensively wrapped albums...please note only BLIND FAITH's eponymous album cover was presumed more scandalously overt (or maybe Lennon and Ono's TWO VIRGINS which was, however, discreetly blank on the outside)...okay, I expect Brian Ferry did not mean to offend, but merely to lampoon his lusty ideals. One cannot listen to this album, look at that cover, and not love the 1970s and ROXY MUSIC, and this HOT as HOT POP ROCK CAN GET record album. And ROXY MUSIC, at that point, would apparently do nearly anything ("All I Want Is You") to chart a record in the USA...and they did, with those booby models on the cover, this record album peaked in March of 1975 at number 37 on the BILLBOARD Top 40 Albums chart with a mere 3 weeks on that chart (and there were still no USA single hits at this point). There were a lot of great albums out there in 1974 and 1975.Even with its scandalous (so to speak) cover, COUNTRY LIFE was overlooked in the USA, yet, relentlessly, has slowly floated to the surface, elbowing its way past contemporaries to be recognized as one of the VERY BEST of that year and that decade. You can hear everybody who was influenced by it...just listen to it!!
