5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing as expected
I cant say anything bad about this cd. The music is so beautiful.. I love his poetic lyrics. Even though I am agnostic I can appreciate how elegantly he expresses his belief in Christianity. I cant wait to see them perform their new songs Oct. 21st! They put on such an amazing and energetic show.. If they come to your town DO NOT MISS OUT ON IT!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple amazement found on a compact disc
Once again, MeWithoutYou has done it! No other band that I have heard has come even some-what close to capturing the feelings and originality that these fellows have. There is a distinction in their music that is unreachable by all other bands! "Brother, Sister" is a wonderful addition to their collection of fascinating music. I admit I was, as with all bands, a bit skeptic before it came out. Seeing as how I am in Iraq right now, and my wife is in the states, I knew she would buy it, so i found somewhere to download it (a bit ahead of time, actually). I listened to it, and listened to it. I was in a strange MWY daze, as with all of their albums, so I knew it was another winner!
5-0 out of 5 stars their best album yet
Throughout the last few weeks on our messageboard, members have been coming out of the woodwork and reluctantly saying, "this new mewithoutYou CD is really good," while I can only imagine muttering and staring at their shoes. It's not that mewithoutYou ever created anything but exceptional music; 2002's [A-->B] Life created a stir in the stereos of a few limited people aching for something truly different to listen to. While well-received in some circles, it was more than likely panned by just as many critics who were unable to digest the overdriven guitars and the meandering vocal patterns. As 2004 rolled through, however, the band began to win over skeptics with their second CD, Catch for Us the Foxes, and later subsequently won mtvU's "Left Field" award for "most original artist." Yet, even then, people have written the band off for their ties to Tooth & Nail and more importantly, the band's Christian faith.

2-0 out of 5 stars Uneven Song Selection
The only reason I bought this soundtrack was for the version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," sung by Rufus Wainwright. I couldn't find that version on another CD. Didn't care for the rest of the songs on this CD that much.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's Ok
It's an Ok cd I'd Rather watch the movie than listen to the soundtrack some of the songs R either too slow and old or the fast songs need action or something . I got the cd 4 smashmouth's songs really .

4-0 out of 5 stars A Pretty Cool Soundtack. SHREK ROCKS
Shrek is, like, one of my "Top 10" movies. Er, that list is in my mind. The soundtrack is equally good. Some of the songs were in the movie, some were'nt. But, whatever.

Editorial Review

Emotionally over-the-top pop extravaganzas like the string-swelling "Tonight Tonight," the Metallica-influenced alternative rock of "Zero," the techno via new wave of "1979"--the 28 songs on this swell two-disc album are as eclectic as their themes are epic and ambitious. Billy Corgan's thin whine isn't much of an instrument, but he makes the most of it by writing smart songs that take emotional chances that more-typical alt rockers would deem uncool. Pessimistic and feeling trapped but still wanting to believe in love, in a future, in something--this is the sound of Gen X at the millennium, with all the self-indulgence and power that would suggest. 5-0 out of 5 stars The Wall of the 90's.....Yes!
I at first didn't care for the album that much and only listened to the songs which had videos playing on MTV. Later I decided to put the album on and just let it play through while I cleaned my room...it was then that I saw this album for what it is...a complete masterpiece!
1-0 out of 5 stars Sadness Leads to Godliness Leads to Emptyness
I had been a Smashing Pumpkins fan for 10 years. I formerlly collected every CD that ever existed. I've met James Iha, Jimmy Chamberlain, and even Billy Corgan.
5-0 out of 5 stars MCIS
I don't know, why it has taken me this long to write a review for this album.I purschased this album in 1995 when it first came out. After my first listen, I was impressed, but I did not truly apriciate this album, until I listented to it several times all the way through. This is truly a masterpeice of an album. It has every emotion on this album.Yes I love Siamese Dream and Gish, but this album is the best and I understand why Billy went a differnt direction after this album, because how do you top a masterpiece.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ewww...
Let's face it. Once in awhile, life hands us something that makes us want to say "ewww".That happened to me last night about 2:30 in the morning after listening to the debut album Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs! from cute boy band Hellogoodbye.
2-0 out of 5 stars Fluffy Pretentiousness
HelloGoodbye has a sound that's really in vogue right now. The problem is they forgot that no amount of 'being hip' can replace 'tired cliche writing'. In many regards - most of the songs on the album could have been sung by a female pop group in the 90s and it would have sounded perfectly in place (especially Touchdown Turnaround (Don't Give Up On Me) which is borderline annoying).
4-0 out of 5 stars Hellogoodbye scores with Debut CD
Hellogoodbye has recently become one of my favorite new bands. They have a unique emo sound , with a touch of techno . The best tracks on their Debut " Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!", in my opinion are their first single " Here (in your arms)", " Baby , It's Fact" , " Touchdown Turnaround (don't give up on me) " , and " All of your love" . Their lyrics are just plain catchy , and their songs vary throughout the album . Some are loud , and some are soft love songs . Out of all the songs on the album , I can totally see Touchdown Turnaround as their next single . It's a great song , with really fun lyrics . If your a fan of Bright Eyes , you'll like this band . For some reason , they remind me of them in some songs . It's a fun CD that can be played over and over again. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Mix of Songs
I really liked this as a full album. The songs all fit really well together, but they all had very different musical influences to them from old timey to funky.I love a good beat and all the songs had that. The lyrics were also inventive and fun.It is really the type of record that you can get into and listen to over and over again.I highly recommend it for rock lovers and people who like to listen to music that makes them bop around in the house, car, or on the street with their ipod.Give it a try and have a little fun!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Instrumentals, but too Simple Songwriting
"The White Stripes" is a band that has some perfected examples of instrumental composition. Yet, the band's minimalist lyrics make them a little too basic when they begin to concentrate on them; and through that they then begin to loosen their sly, diverse, and devilish charm that they have propelled exceptionally onto the listener, otherwise.
5-0 out of 5 stars If you think the songs, Jack wrote em all wrong, well ya just don't belong man.If you like it but try to resist, do the twist!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wear Yourself Out With REAL Rock To HANG High
There's nothing sweeter than REVENGE and this album has songs that will cause you to storm up a room of blastin rock 'n' roll that will cause your parents to scream, your neighbors to feel annoyance, and most of all to boost rebellious minds - the ultimate aphrodisiac!
4-0 out of 5 stars Take it for what it is: this is a good album
In certain crowds, you're not supposed to like bands like My Chemical Romance, because you're supposed to despise anything that gets air time on MTV. If you're that type of person, stay away from this album. If you can appreciate music for what it is and not worry so much about what's politically correct to listen to, you may really like this album. The songs are catchy, the lead singer does a good job and the production is good overall.
5-0 out of 5 stars Technically great, but people refuse to see it.
I like MCR. There. I said it. MCR is good, despite what all the haters say. I've found out that the main reason people don't like Green Day, MCR, etc. is because they don't want to be associated with "that kind of person." I can see that, and that's why I don't openly love MCR. I don't want the haters to shun me, and I don't want the lovers inviting me into their crowd.

4-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly, this album doesn't suck!
I thought this album was not going to be very good, but I gave it a chance and was extremely surprised. It does not suck, as a matter of fact, it's actually pretty good! It's growing on me, "Let it Enfold You" didn't.The addition of Heath on guitar has DEFINATELY changed this band for the better. This is worth a listen or two, it'll grow on you.
4-0 out of 5 stars Senses Fail has yet to "fail"
This album is good. I feel that I have now given it enough listens to give an accurate opinion.
4-0 out of 5 stars Still Searching for SF's Older Stuff
Okay so Senses Fail is known to scream. Scream their god damn lungs out. They're there to give you a headache but to entertain you at the same time. Their older stuff is WAY more screamo then this stuff. This new stuff is good but way different than From Depths of Dreams and Let It Enfold You. It's still good but I will have to get used to it first. I'm so used to their old stuff where all they do is scream. But SF is like one of my favorite bands, so I will make an effort to get used to them. "Everyday Is A Struggle" and "Can't be saved" are two of my favorite songs on this CD so I guess I recommend them to you. Or anybody reading this right now. So yeah, if you know Senses Fail by their older stuff, this CD is a little different because they don't scream as much, it's more guitar licks and more singing. But it's still good so I'm not complaining. So uhh go buy it. It's different, but a good different. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Saosin got it right!
For me, this album rates right up there with AFI and Rise Against's newest releases as the best albums to come out this year. The songs are very catchy and I like that Saosin doesn't fall back on trite screamo tactics that everybody else seems to be doing these days.As bummed as I was this summer when they didn't play "I can tell" at the warped tour show, they fell back into favor with this release.Lastly, I hardly ever notice drummers but this guy is unbelievable!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful LP
Saosin truely proves itself to be a strong force in the music industry with its first self-titled full length release. Between the sharp guitar riffs of Justin Shekoski and Beau Burchell, to the fierce bass line of Chris Soreson, the expert drumming of Alex Rodriguez, and the wide vocal range of Cove Reber. The album truely shows off their musicianship in this long awaited album. The album moves from its post-hardcore roots (fronted by Anthony Green) in songs such as "Come Close" and back to its now mostly area-rock type feel shown in the single "Voices". The differnces between the "Translating the Name" EP and this album are immense but still are the same in many aspects. Though the band has been through various line-up changes they still manage to keep a strong focus on their music. Also despite them being on a major label they still seem to have a very loyal fanbase that stays true to the band as well.
5-0 out of 5 stars Saosin goes softer, but still is good
At first, i have to be quite honest. I didnt like this cd because it was completely weak and 100% totally different from their old stuff with Anthony Green. Ever since he left the band has gone down in a direction for worse in my opinion. The guitar players can do sooo much better and the drummer is holding back beyond belief. I cant believe he doesnt even do any double bass solos, its very dissapointing compared to thier old stuff. But, like said before, this is the new Saosin. The old Saosin was one of a kind and this is the new of it. The new Saosin contains lyrics that can be understand and guitar melodies that are slow but still catchy. They are plain standard rock. Which i actually like, its a good start for a band that lost an unbelieveable singer but still gained a whole new type of music that anybody who likes rock will enjoy. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Make Damn Sure
If you happen upon the video for MakeDamnSure and the sound on your television is off, then you would think that the band Taking Back Sunday is ripping one hell of a energetic and explosive tune. They look like the MC5 in the video, jumping off amps, winging guitars around there head, looking serious as all hell. But if your like me and you turn the sound back on, your going to hear that it's another whiny and droning effort from the emo machine designed to make kids in high school feel self important.
3-0 out of 5 stars ugh
TBS is my favorite band, no matter what. Tell all your friends and where you want to be were amazing cds with amazing songs. Everything about TBS was perfect. I was really pumped for Louder Now and when I finally got it I was really dissapointed, yes their sound is different but thats not really the problem. The songs just didn't have that special something that the other two albums had. I do however very much enjoy "ill let you live", "error operator", "whats it feel like to be a ghost", and "make damn sure"
4-0 out of 5 stars Slightly Dissapointed...
Yes, I have to be honest, I'm slightly dissapointed with this album, yet I'm giving it 4 stars. My reason for being "slightly "dissapointed, is that the album really starts off with a bang, but then drops of a little. The first 3 songs are so strong and sound so amazing that the rest of the album really just can't keep up. What It Feels Like To Be A Ghost, Liar, and MakeDamnSure, are just fantastic songs, some of the best work that TBS has done. For those three alone, Louder Now is worth buying.

It's hard to pinpoint the exact moment Modest Mouse started sounding like a real band. For the longest time, singer-songwriter Isaac Brock seemed to exist solely to defy the established rules, forging forward on sheer momentum and ingenuity. Even Pavement looked relatively ordinary in comparison to the band's early releases like 1996's Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars brilliant and accessible
Modest Mouse is hard to love. Many of their albums are grating. I know they are good, but for the life of me I can't enjoy them wholly. Maybe this makes me less intelligent somehow, that I prefer the more mainstream Good News... to their other albums. But I find that Good News gets stuck to me and I just can't shake the songs. This album all feels very new. It is welcome on mainstream radio, but remains unique. The single Float On was a bit hit and rightly so...it feels good and honest. It's what pop should sound like. The album is still intensely creative, and while sometimes that is tiring (I get older waiting for genius songs to grow on me) here the songs immediately catch. Favorites are Ocean Breathes Salty, The View, Satin in a coffin, and black cadillacs.
2-0 out of 5 stars Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Love Bad News
Not what I expected. It wasn't as 'manly' as I had hoped.

4-0 out of 5 stars Really unique and fun to listen to!
I got this CD in January or February and I really like it. I've heard Float On a million times before I bought it and I thought " Wow, this is pretty weird music but I actually like it ". My aunt also has this album and the songs are really good. My favorite songs are The World At Large and The Ocean Breathes Salty. Some of the songs on the album are really nice listening to and SOME of them are calm. One song where Isaac sings F**k F**k F**k is calm, hehe, but I still really like this CD. It's great and unique. I recommend this album to anybody who loves soft rock/indie music. 4.5/5 stars! ... Read more

First of all let me say that i'm really rating this album with THREE STARS. I gave it 5 stars to balance the rating due to all the idiotic hate reviews this album and band are getting.
5-0 out of 5 stars Crazy
This cd is one word Crazy.I Love every song on it.If you love rock/metal.You will love this cd.

4-0 out of 5 stars Don't give them all the power when your future's in desperate trouble
Since I bought this album a year ago I've moved onto harder and heavier bands, like Slayer and Cradle of Filth, and even some older ones too, like Iron Maiden and Ozzy. Avenged Sevenfold has evolved into something that fits right in the middle of all of that. They even seem to have an anti-war feeling in two of the songs, despite the fact that they claim to not be a political band at all.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad.
Bullet for my Valentine basically take emo/hardcore elements, and serve them up with a healthy dose of thrash and melodic death metal, to create a sound that is definitely a cut above the rest.Sure, frontman Matt Tuck can get a little emo-ish at times, but he's also a good screamer, and the band is always quick with a blazing riff, a scorching solo, an Iron Maiden-ish melody, or a blistering double bass attack.I'd say this album is really more metal than anything, so if you've always wanted a bit more metal in this type of music, then you're likely to find plenty of enjoyment here. These guys are great musicians, who really know how to rock hard.Best song is "The End", a 7-minute epic that alternates between dark, haunting melodies, and powerful climactic riffs. The rest are in the 3-4 minute range, and a bit more straight-forward, but still full of interesting dynamics. It never gets boring for a second.
5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, a band that does new metal the right way.
First off, I'm an 80's metal guy. I love bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Dio, Megadeth. And for years, it's been difficult for me to get into any new metal bands...until now! What an amazing band. Finally, you have a band that has the makings of a great modern day metal band, yet their music still firmly reflects their 80's roots. I love this album. If you love your metal with pounding riffs, killer solos, and a whole lot of attitude, buy this cd. This is the best British rock band to come onto the scene in years.

When the Velvets recorded this debut, they were best known as the protégés of Andy Warhol (who designed the sleeve), and as a grating, combustive live band. Fueled by drummer Moe Tucker's no-nonsense wham and John Cale's howling viola, some of the straight-up rock & roll and arty noise extravaganzas here bear that out. But before Lou Reed was singing about sadomasochism and drug deals and writing lyrics inspired by his favorite poets, he was a pop songwriter, and this album has some of his prettiest tunes, mostly sung by Nico, the German dark angel who left the band after this disc. Even the sordid rockers are underscored by graceful pop tricks, like the two-chord flutter at the center of the classic "Heroin." Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Velvet Underground and Nico
When this album came out in 1967, it changed rock and roll and added a new dimension to the rock lyricism. People who listened to it wanted to form rock and roll bands. This was the beginning of proto-punk and experimental rock. If it werent for VU & Nico, there wouldnt be any Sonic Youth, MC5, New York Dolls, and Alice Cooper. Avant-garde music for real music fans. Favorite songs are There She Goes Again, Sunday Morning, Femme Fatale, Run Run Run, I'm Waiting for the Man, and Heroin.

5-0 out of 5 stars This album may take some time to "break in"
A common reaction to this album is initial hatred, followed by becoming curious enough about it to want to give it a few more listens, follwed in turn by fascination with the album, followed by simply loving it. Such was my reaction. The lyrics are about dark topics such as drug addiction and S&M and they're very frank and direct, without any sugarcoating. There is good use of feedback, distortion, and noise in many of the songs, and this album ended up turning me on to that kind of thing. Check out European Son and marvel at the fact that every little bit of feedback in that track was supposed to be there in the first place.

4-0 out of 5 stars Warning: NOT FOR EVERYONE.
If your idea of rock is good-timey, happy and fun, avoid. To quote one of the group's most famous songs, "Sick and dirty" is a good way to describe The Velvet Underground and Nico. Themes of choice include kinky sex, drug abuse and murder. Not exactly the Monkees.

Editorial Review

Take one part Ramones, one part Buzzcocks, and one part Husker Du, and you've got the basic foundation of Green Day, a punky, witty, melodic San Francisco Bay area trio who became overnight stars in 1994 when this album, their third overall release and major label debut, catapulted them to the top of the pop charts. Led by guitarist/vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong and their secret weapon, powerhouse drummer Tre Cool, Green Day put '70s and '80s punk in a compact '90s package with songs like "Longview," "Basket Case," "Pulling Teeth," and the hit semi-ballad, "When I Come Around." One the few modern alternative rock bands with a bona fide sense of humor. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!
Green Day rocks! I love the old Green Day. My opinion is you aren't a true Green Day fan unless you've at least heard their old stuff. It's so true. THIS IS A VERY GOOD CD. GET IT.

Let's get some things straight before we start, yes?First off, I was in high school when the record released.I bought it, ostensibly to give as a birthday present to somebody else I knew, but for complicated reasons ended up keeping it.Over the course of the next few years, it was one of the few records I actually owned (hard to get those buggers when you don't have, you know, an income), so it got played a lot.Quite a lot.
1-0 out of 5 stars "Dookie..." an apt title
Let me put it like this: there is not ONE good song on this album. Not only that, but it's a collection of fifteen crappy songs, especially Longview, Welcome to Paradise, Basket Case and When I Come Around, all of which I have heard a million too many times on the radio. This isn't a punk album, the Clash and the Sex Pistols are punk. It sucks. That's the short and long of it. Get the Velvet Underground's third, self-titled album if you want an example of an amazing album. Get something by the Stooges if you want good punk. Or the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Cream, Who, AC/DC, Crosby Stills & Nash, Neil Young, Bob Dylan... all are much better. But if you MUST have some alternative rock, either the Chili Peppers, R.E.M., U2 or Nirvana will do. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a masterful work
This is a perfect album...and I am not even a big Bowie fan! Sonically, production wise, musically, the arrangements, the pacing as well as the strength of the songs...this is a brilliant work.
5-0 out of 5 stars Stardust Memories
David Bowie's fifth LP transformed him into (duh) a rock 'n roll star. There was much promise of him becoming one with his third CD, The Man Who Sold the World. However, he then backed up a bit - in terms of volume, not quality - with the unbelievably masterful Hunky Dory, a mosaic of rock, pop, folk, psychedelia, and whatever else was in arm's reach. On The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust & the Spiders From Mars, Bowie's flair for the dramatic became a full-blown obsession. While uptempo hard rock once again formed the core of the record, gentle acoustic numbers and genuine pop was not neglected. The result was what may or may not be his greatest record, but it is certainly his definitive one, ie, it is the one that best defines him.
