5-0 out of 5 stars Just correcting the guy under me
it was Mikey who said "take it mikee" not cliffy. cliffy did a couple "1-2-3-4"s but thats it as far as between songs. This album was recorded in studio, but this was tehir EXACT show they did on the tour it was recorded (summer 98) i know, because i saw them on that tour and video-recorded the show i saw and it syncs up to the cd EXACTLY. i think this is the best live album i've ever heard. 5 stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars 4 1/2 Actually.
While Most people Don't realize this isn't a REAL live album....(yes, yes..cliffy admitted it has a prerecorded live crowd) Anyway, they made a Fun album here, however it loses a half star because of Cliffy's Annoying "Take it Mikey!" before each song!!!!!!!!!!!! EVERY song!!!! ARRRRGHHH!!!...that sounded horribly cheesy! 4-0 out of 5 stars Really nice offering
it's good but it kinda get repetitive over time. I prefer their full lenght cd's because there the songs are complete, not just excerpts like in some tracks. Anyway a fun cd and nice live photos in the booklet adds up for a great product. A must have to complete your Huntingtons collection. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Rock and Roll
This really is a superb collection of live recordings from Boston's legendary Real Kids. If this is the first Real Kids CD you buy, then I can assure you that you will want more! Straight ahead, high energy, no B.S. rock and roll in the fine tradition of the Ramones, Iggy, Dolls and the MC5 (as the MC mentions in his intro) with the melodic quality of the Beatles and Kinks thrown in for good measure. After I bought the LP, I discovered that the CD had extra tracks. Doh! What to do but by the CD too! Yeah, this is good.

5-0 out of 5 stars This and their self-titled debut are essential
Essential because there are loads of good original songs that I don't think are on any other Kids releases, including "Shake Outta Control," "All Night Boppin," "She Don't Take It," and the list goes on. The title track is a relatively obscure early Stones tune. The cream of the crop is tracks 19-24, which are from 1976 (the same year Boston debuted and Aerosmith was at its peak, but the Real Kids are sure up to the "competition"), before they had an album out, and the early Damned-like speed and energy are pretty contagious. They even have the Ted Nugent rhythm guitar sound blaring in "All Kinds of Girls"! Sound quality is fine except for two tracks from CBGB, but that's OK. Finally, I like the way the Kids jump into a song IMMEDIATELY after being introduced by an MC. Way cool timing!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Live Real Kids CD
This CD provides an excellent overview of the Real Kids live performances in the '70s. They are captured live in a college radio station, at CBGBs, at Boston's Rathskeller, etc. Raw, passionate and full of the kind of driving, primitive garage rock that most others bands can only dream of producing. Other than their classic first album, THIS is the Real Kids CD to own. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the most amazing performances ever
I was lucky enough to be in attendance at this show way back in the summer of 1997.This was one of the first times I had seen Avail and it was nothing short of an amazing experience. The intensity of Avail is unmatched by a lot of bands I have seen and this album is so effing great and takes me back to a long sweaty night in San Francisco!A nice mix of all of their stuff up until 4AM Friday (in fact I think this was the supporting tour for that album), they performed 2 songs that later appeared on Over the James.4-0 out of 5 stars Live at the Bottom of the Hill in San Fransisco
Avail are much better live than in the studio. I'm not normally a fan of live albums but "Live @ the Bottom of the Hill" brings the listener as close as possible to Avail in it's purist form. The recording quality is much better than on V.M.L. Live @ the Fireside Bowl- Chicago or Live @ the Kings Head Inn. The songs range from early classics to newer, uh, classics. The intensity, however, is relentless. That's something you won't find in a recording studio.

1-0 out of 5 stars ARE YOU PEOPLE ALL DEAF OR ON DRUGS?????
The only song that sounds decent on here is Heart of Glass but the guys should sing on it like on the album.Call Me is a mess. Clem Burke is still an awesome drummer- one of the best- but even he can't always save this ensemble.I have seen them twice live and both times I was disappointed. They should make more of an effort to sound like the albums. I was a kid in the 70's and 80's and never saw them back then... but Deborah Harry's voice just isn't strong anymore.I like the fact that they got back together but if I'm being honest they just aren't that great anymore. And they would be more interesting to watch if they really reunited and brought back Nigel Harrison and Frank Infante and not have these stand-ins.Jimmy Destri seems to have suddenly stopped touring with them too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Blondie's toughest live album yet
This Cd is my favorite Blondie live cd. It has a very raw, tough rock sound which reminds us of Blondie's punk roots. It sounds more rock and roll than the 1999 live cd. comparing to the latter, the following songs sound much better here : Hanging on the telephone, Rapture,X Offender, Dreaming, etc. However I have two things to complain about, what happened to atomic and maria?? If people actually requested the songs played in this concert, i am surprised that maria and atomic were not requested!
5-0 out of 5 stars SOLID BLONDIE PERFORMANCE!
Do you recall "Rapture", "Call Me", "One Way Or Another", "Heart Of Glass", or "Dreaming".Well they are all here in this great live performance back in 2004.Some songs are from the new album THE CURSE OF BLONDIE.Debbie performs "Presence Dear" just like it was 1977 again! So if you love Blondie get this cd and check it out!Live is always the best! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good live album.
"Spirit Electricity" is almost worth getting just for this version of "Return To Heaven", and the whole thing is actually very good. But if you're looking for their best live album, that's "The Youth Are Getting Restless". It's a near perfect performance, and 11 tracks longer than this disc is. This one will still shock you though.

4-0 out of 5 stars If you haven't seen them live....
While Spirit Electricity is not the length of The Youth Are Getting Restless, the live intensity of Bad Brains is there.Any dub by H.R. is worth hearing, and while the studio recordings are great, they are nowherenear the sheer power contained in a live Bad Brains show.Who knows?Thismay be the only way to hear them live... ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Too Rockin for the Lil' Punkers
It's so obvious by the two other lonely reviews that this record has been missed by countless morons too busy listenin' to fuggin' Limp Brisket and Linkies' Pork.I was turned on to this group a while back and it instilled my faith in good old fashion Rock n' Roll once again.Being an avid fan of 50's R n' B, Rockabilly and 60's/70's garage punk, I can attess to the fact that this slab of vinyl or plastic will kick your booty into next year. This is the perfect record to play when your dimwit neighbors are playin' that boring old CLASSIC ROCK poop on the radio.Wish these folks were still kickin', but if your interested check out the HARD FEELINGS, which features some of the members of this band.GOD BLESS ROCK N' ROLL, BABY!

5-0 out of 5 stars Forget all other mop-top 80's
Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Dig the crazy sounds bustin' out of yo' speakers fillin' the room with the grease and prime raunch of the mighty Lyres! This record blows 90% of what passed for garage rock in the 80's away and threatens to inflict total destruction on lame-o acts like the Hives and Strokes! Mono and his crew can take almost any 60's tune and turn it into pure, souled-out gold! Listen as The Lyres give tunes like "soapy", "love man" and "swing shift" the Mono treatment and come out wailin'! Dig it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Maxymum Mono-Dynamyte-Man
This recordings are as vital as Jonathan Richman' Precise Modern Lovers Order, with the essential difference that Jeff Connolly and his band are still doing the same music today, in the quest of the Grail ofthe perfect garage sound. These "Early years" are great because you can verify there that when the Lyres are inspired as they are some evenings, they are the most fantastic rockin' band one can imagine. THIS RECORD IS A PURE NUGGET and its speeds up a 100 miles per hour. You can nearly feel the sweat beads coming of Jeff's hair to your face. A great collection of classic Lyres songs and covers, they are all there, plus some "dialogues" with famous persons in the audience like Franck Rowe of the Classic Ruins, the Lyres are covering "Geraldine" so cleverly it sounds like a product of their own. Jim Topper is introducing the band and exalting his admiration speaking of its "majesticity". Bob Colby, famous for the "boob" - see the Real Kids first album - asks for "let's get a Party" and of course Jeff Monoman is treating the audience as if he was giving the ultimate party of the sixties. 3-0 out of 5 stars Spotty but worth owning
This was originally a Factory Records compilation, long out of print, then reissued on CD (and it seems to be out of print again).Basically, it's a handful of live recordings from the last shows at the Electric Circus, a Manchester club from the 70's.Some of the bands, such as the Drones, sound dated and boring, but the Buzzcocks' "Time's Up" is fantastic; the Fall contributed two solid performances ("Stepping Out" and "Last Orders"); Steel Pulse ("Ku Klux Klan") show that reggae doesn't have to come from Jamaica to be good; and John Cooper Clarke's wacky beatnik-style poetry still works. It's a shame that the Joy Division track, "At A Later Date," is not one of their more memorable efforts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best collection of live songs
Now while i'm a fan of just 1 full live show and not just a bunch of songs mixed together my opinion changed when I first heard this cd. The mix of songs are excellent and i love how it just seems like 1 full show you are listening to! This in my is the 2nd best live punk album out ther (The Clash's From Here To Enternity is my fav and also happens to contain a few shows mixed together but it sounds like one show). Most people prefer Hanx over this album but I just cannot agree with them. Like The Clash (in my opinion both The Clash and SLF are the most important and best punk bands ever..The Ramones would be 3rd)Stiff Little Fingers must has branched out from the early raw punk sound of Suspect Device and Alternative Ulster to songs like Just Fade Away and Silver Lining, which are two excellent songs. Roots, Radicals, Rockers and Reggae is the highlight of this set for me mainly because it's my fav SLF song (it's also up there with The Clash's White Man In Hammersmith Palais as being the best punk tunes). I think my only problem with the 2 disc set is that the first disc seems like it should be the 2nd one. Alternative Ulster should be the final song on disc 2, not disc 1 and Roots should be the 1st song on disc 1! Opening up the 1st cd the way they do sounds like there is something missing. The first thing you hear is Jake explaining what the song is about and you can tell that that song wasn't played first at the show. Just some minor gripes but nothing major! Go buy this cd!

5-0 out of 5 stars oh no, not another SLF live album!
Ahh, but no.Somebody was thinking when they put this together. It is a "Greatest Hits" culled from 3 different SLF live albums; sort of a Greatest Live Hits venture. The three live albums that are anthologized on this 2-disc set are, in chronological order:Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Crew
The good:
5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have For Harccore Punk Fans
7 Seconds were, along with Bad Religion, one of the originators of the "fast and melodic" format that harcore punk bands adopted in the early 90's (NOFX, Lag Wagon, Pennywise are some of the bands that adopted this style). "The Crew" must be the epitome of 7 Seconds "hardcore " era; the band plays at a furious thrash-like speed, but the vocal delivery always remains melodic without sounding sugary or happy go lucky (sorry, Simple Plan fans!). After this album, 7 Seconds started to "experiment" with their sound, drifting farther and farther away from their faster-than-thou sound and into a more "U2 on steroids" sound. Anyway, "The Crew" is an album that should stand side by side with other hardcore classics like MINOR THREAT, BAD BRAINS, AGNOSTIC FRONT, DRI and BLACK FLAG. The sound varies slightly from song to song (as if the band were trying to improve on the mix each time)but the overall sound is clear yet powerful. Troy's drumming, though simplistic, cuts through the songs like a hot knife and the rest of the instruments sound intense enough. The lyrics were a bit of a departure from what was going on with the hardcore scene in the mid 80's; the band sang about unity, tolerance and respect, instead of fearing nuclear warfare, which was the common thing to sing about."Here's your warning", "Definite choice", "Bully" and the heartfelt but tough-as-nails "Trust" are just some of the stand out tracks. This album, without a doubt in my mind, 7 SECONDS' finest moment, although newer releases such as "Good To Go" almost match this gem with its raw intensity!

5-0 out of 5 stars SPOKEN WORD OR STAND UP COMEDY?
you really could call it either. regardless, this is an album worth picking up, whether or not you're familiar with Rollins, his stories or his energy. Picture Dennis Leary's energy mixed with the posative enthusiasm of a guidance counsellor and the stories as tall as ewan mcgregor in a tim burton film.
5-0 out of 5 stars Rollins just gets better with age!
After the disintegration of the highly influencial punk rock band, Black Flag, lead singer Henry Rollins should have slid slowly into obscurity. However, Rollins' relentless drive to achieve and succeed have helped him to become one of the most respected figures in rock'n'roll today. In addition to his Rollins Band records, television appearances, and books, Rollins has also made a name for himself as a spoken word artist, telling tales of his rock'n'roll exploits, his opinions on current events, and his everyday life to loyal fans all over the world.

4-0 out of 5 stars The best Meat Puppets live album
Despite only featuring one original member in lead vocalist/guitarist Curt Kirkwood as well as a setlist that is short on classic material and long on the Golden Lies album, Meat Puppets Live is a far superior live release to the one that features the original lineup, Live in Montana. With the instrumental interplay with his brother Cris gone, the focus here is on Curt and he certainly makes up for the loss as his vocals are much stronger here and his guitar work remains stellar. Most of the Golden Lies tracks are very good as "Armed and Stupid", "Wipe Out", "Push the Button", and "Way That It Are" resemble the quirky rock tunes on Too High to Die while retaining some of the looseness of their '80s releases. The psychedelic "Lamp", the haphazard "Take Off Your Clothes", and the reflective "Pieces of Me" are also strong tracks. As for the older tracks, the versions of "Oh, Me", "Up On the Sun", "Lake of Fire", and "Plateau" are all great and the crowd really gets into them. Finally, the album closes with an absolutely wicked version of "Touchdown King." All told, while Meat Puppets Live is not definitive, several albums such as Meat Puppets, Mirage, and Too High to Die are not represented; it's still a very good live album and certainly the best one out there.

2-0 out of 5 stars Live in New Jersey
I liked live in Montana better. This recording is a step above bootleg quality. The guitar music is very good (Armed and Stupid, Wipe Out, I Quit, Push the Button, Up on the Sun, Fatboy). I have never liked anything but the "Meat Puppets II" versions of "Lake of Fire" and "Plateau" and this record does not change that. The highlight for me is the excellent performance of "Up on the Sun" sans the extension and "Wipe Out". I like the live versions of the songs from "Golden Lies" better than the studio, although, I was disappointed with "Lamp". If you don't own the albums "Meat Puppets II" and "Up on the Sun", go buy them now.

4-0 out of 5 stars in their natural habitat
I just picked this cd up today and it pretty much sounds like the concert I saw from this tour, the selection is heavy on songs from Golden Lies. The concert intro and the extended jam of Up On the Sun are great, definitely the highlights for me thus far. This isn't a perfect disk, but worth checking out.I'd have to say I prefer it to Live IN Montana.I would have liked a more diverse selection (maybe a "violet eyes" or "backwater" thrown in) but I can't complain too much.If you've seen the band recently, you won't be surprised by it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Mind-Blowing!
Unlike a lot of people, I prefer studio music over live music when it comes to recordings, but this is my fav NUFAN album ever. These guys are totally awesome live, and it translates remarkably well onto the CD.The song selection is great as well, and I simply can't get enough of this album.

Surely this is the best nufan cd... Lately they have been making slower songs (but it doesn't mean they are bad), but in this cd they show how hardcore they were...4-0 out of 5 stars A good NUFAN retrospective
In terms of technical ability you can't knock NUFAN at the time they made this live record. Despite changing lineups after every album they've ever made, the people on this record know the songs well and play them perfectly. Some real NUFAN classics are present and correct; Soulmate, On the Outside, Feeding the Fire and Justified Black Eye are all just as you'd want to hear them. The main flaws with this record are more down to the changing musical tastes of the band themselves. There are too many slow ones! When you're playing live everyone expects to hear the up-tempo danceable numbers, not the tearful slow stuff! Growing Down or Revenge would have been welcome instead of Chasing Rainbows etc. But I guess there's always songs you wish a band had played live. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Well worth buying for Dino Jr fans
In England this is probably the easiest Dino album to find. I bought it to hear some raw early music and wasn't dissapointed. The screeching guitar madness of tunes such as Leper are perfectly balanced with thesemi-accoustic beauty of Get Me and Keeblin. This is a raw live insightinto Dinosaur Jr. If you have never seen them live, this is as close asyou'll get. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Cash From Chaos
Before the Sex Pistols began a swift decent into back-stabbing oblivion that destroyed so many Stadium Rock bands of the 1970s, there was a group that pounded out some great music in the English clubs.
4-0 out of 5 stars Complete Shows are nice. Complete shows with Matlock are even nicer.
I recommend this for anyone who's ever wondered what the Pistols sounded like with their origonal bass player, who could, you know, play bass. It's June of '76, the club is tiny, the PA system gives out before the set's over, half the time you can barely make out what Johnny's singing, la da di da...
