5-0 out of 5 stars G R E A T!!!!!
Great record! It's true a lot of people think the original punk bands were Black Flag & Circle Jerks which are great, but hear you see The Weirdos which is the FIRST California punk band and The Bags which, was probablythe FIRST hardcore band with a female singer. The Germs is probably thebest live show they've done that's been released. If you want to know aboutearly LA punk rock (we all know how expensive those Dangerhouse singles canget), or just the first wave of punkers this is a great place to start!

5-0 out of 5 stars you had to be there
Lost but not forgotten, these recordings capture a moment in LA music history that the establishment(maan) preferred to ignore. Thanks. We didnt need you anyway. This where it started, not wBlackflag not vanhalen, realRnR NOTPLASTIC! ... Read more

The first-ever authorized live album by the Dead Kennedys--following decades of bootlegs--is a DKs fan dream come true, as it contains absolutely scorching live versions of 14 of their best and most notorious songs. Whether live or in the studio, the DKs were always real players, easily some of the most accomplished musicians in American punk. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Honestly, they couldn't do any better?
I bought this album because I have never been lucky enough to get my hands on a bootleg.I wish I would have tried a lot harder to get one now. It's also difficult to resist the urge to buy a "new" DK album-especially when, like me, you were too young to get the opportunity in the 80's.The most notable songs are rather mediocre on this album, so my favorites on "Mutiny" would have to be "This Could Be Anywhere", "I Am the Owl" and "Riot."Jello always managed to keep the songs timeless with his live takes, and it's a shame the new singer can't at least do the so without the same level of creativity. It is obvious how this whole lawsuit/Manifesto/reunion thing came about when you look to the solo efforts of the other members too.I would especially recommend a good long look at Klaus' "The Light is Flickering",or Ray's "Sex is Sex" before anyone goes defending them.I saw Peligro at Social Chaos Tour in Lawrence,KS in 1999 and they were good live, but the albums didn't have the same resonance (plus all he talked about was being the drummer for DK, even wore a DK shirt-geez move on!Meanwhile he was suing his former frontman over money!Way to carry on the legacy!).This album, like any other DK release, is worth having-as long as you can sleep at night knowing who you're supporting. It's the same feeling you get drinking a Coke after you hear stuff about them assassinating union leaders in South America...diirrrty!

4-0 out of 5 stars Dead Kennedys - 'Mutiny On The Bay' (Manifesto) 4 1/2 stars
Full title:'Mutiny On The Bay-Dead Kennedys Live! From The San Francisco Bay Area'.Apparently, former vocalist Jello Biafra had lost a lengthy court battle to block the release of 'Mutiny...',the one of just two legit live Dead Kennedy archive performanes. This fourteen track CD was pulled from four(4)different live shows that took place in 1982 and 1986,which is 'strung' together as one.I LIKE that in a live release.Overall, just great body slammin' all American punk.Tunes that did it for me were "Holiday In Cambodia",the in-your-face "Moon Over Marin",the radical "MTV-Get Off The Air","Too Drunk To F**k" and "Hell Nation".Line-up:Biafra-vocals,East Bay Ray-guitar,Klaus Flouride-bass and D.H.Peligro-drums.A must-have for any and all true fans of 'angry/misguided' punk.Should appeal to fans Minor Threat,Black Flag,T.S.O.L.,Circle Jerks and The Germs.

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolute crap
Horrible. A cash-grab. A fecal-footprint on the amazing DK live-experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfectly captures the fury of their live shows
Don't let any negative reviews scare you away:If you really want to know what Mission of Burma were about Back In The Day, look no further: The Horrible Truth perfectly captures the brilliant, brutal fury of this hugely influential band at their very peak.
5-0 out of 5 stars Better Than in the Studio
Mission of Burma were a classic indie rock band. Unfortunately, though their songs are excellent, thought provoking pieces of material, their producer never quite got their sound right so that the live experience was never fully captured. This documents them on their farewell tour. I saw them live on their reunion tour and this really lives up to the Mission of Burma experience. All of the songs are filled with the raw energy and sincerity that was supposed to be there on the studio versions but is somehow lacking. This is a great album to start with.

4-0 out of 5 stars Still Avant-Garde After All These Years
This album is a real nostalgia trip for me. I became aquainted with Mission of Burma as a student in Boston in 1979. It was a time of great creative ferment in the avant-garde scene, both in jazz and in rock. MOB blew me away when I first heard Revolver on WBCN. I followed the band as much as I could at the time, and continued to be interested in Roger Miller's followup band Birdsongs of the Mesozoic. But MOB had it all. It had the raw rage of British punk, but the experimental attitude of other avant-rock groups like Pere Ubu, who are their most clear forebears. And the lyrics were smart...this was college student's punk. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars How NOT to record a live album
1.-I'm a L7 fan. Let's make that clear
3-0 out of 5 stars Let's rock tonight!
Since I continue to wait for a "Best Of" disc from L7, I thought I'd take a gamble on this live album. I found the performances to be fairly good, while the sound of the disc is not. After the marching band medley to start, which is unique and interesting, we get ten tracks live in Omaha, and the remainder from Osaka. Also this is obviously part of the "Beauty Process" tour, as half the tracklist is from that album. I won't complain about missing songs, since this is actually a decent mix. I can safely say this is for the bigger L7 fans out there, and newbies should just stick with "Hungry For Stink" or "Bricks Are Heavy". Still, if it sounds good go for it. It's cheap used.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just an incredible live album
I've never seen this in a store except for the copy I bought. I already loved L7 but this album really blew me away. I never got to see them before they broke up but this album makes up for it. This album also serves as an unofficial "greatest hits" of a sort since the songs range across 3 albums.

5-0 out of 5 stars Holland 1990
To the extent that a Nomeansno show was exactly like a spiritual revelation, this cd is the resurrection and the life.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic live show of the Andy-era NMN
What can I say? I've seen these guys live at least 6 or 7 times, and this CD is representative of their best shows. Their interplay with the audience is hilarious. Just check out Andy mocking an obnoxious individual duringhis "solo"...

4-0 out of 5 stars power-punk trio in tight form
This is NoMeansNo's album from their Wrong tour. The band is in great form, and the sound quality is excellent for a club gig. as live rock albums go, I would put this up with the Stones' Get Yer Ya-Yas Out. Theseguys are punk predecessors of many 'alternative' bands out there (Tool andKorn come to mind immediately). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The night punk rock died.
This is definitely a top-ten album for me. This live album was released at the height of long hair metal-mania, and the few punkers left around were debating whether to pack it in, grow their hair, and admit nobody wanted garage band rock anymore. It was all about rap or faux-metal. And who would save punk? Nirvana? Give me a break...Some stayed true to the music though.4-0 out of 5 stars Good songs, good playing, but something ain't right...
The only official All album (released in 1989) gives the fans a small idea of what All sounded like during the Scott Reynolds era.Scott does a killer job doing the Smalley era songs and the Allroy's Revenge songs aswell. The musicianship is flawless. And the song selection is okay(except for Copping Z....never liked it, never will). The thing is, theycompressed the mix way too much, to the point where it doesn't sound live. Bill's drums are punchy but too synthetic sounding (like there's no snarewire on his snare drum). The guitar and bass are flat in in the mix, andScott's vocals seem to flow in and out.I can't complain too much though, since for a new fan who might already have the s/t best of CD or Allroy'sRevenge, this is a place to get caught up on more obscure All stuff.DanArmstrong guitars rock, and allow nothing to deter you in your quest forALL. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Live, loud and superb
For anybody who has never heard RCR, this is the album for you. The quality is excellent considering it is live and the whole 'buzz' of the album makes toes tap and fingers snap. Eddie Nichols' vocals are razorsharp, sharper than the whole bands dress sense. All the tracks areoverflowing with snappy, fast beats and some exceptional horn work fromScott Steen. Tracks of note are Mousetrap and hot rod. This is one albumyou will wear out before tiring of that RCR sound.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best live swing album by the best swing band!
This album is what swing is all about: you got you got fast swing, some slower swing to use while you and your honey cool down, and it's allperformed by the best swing band around.Eddie Nichols' vocals ringcrystal clear (as they should in any good live recording) and as usual,he's in perfect pitch. And of course, the boys all got his back and playtheir instruments to swingin' perfection. The great part is being able tohear every instrument and all the vocals clearly, and boy do those cats puton a show!I've seen RCR live and this cd completely does them justice. Now I just wish they'd come out with another live one!If you're a fan ofRCR, or swing in general, buy this cd!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best live band I have ever seen.......
First of all I do not have this cd ( I am going to buy it ). When I gave it 5 stars I was really just giving the band the rating. I have been to a lot of good shows, but this one kicked the crap out of any other. It really angered me, because I just saw them last night in Atlanta with the briefs and hardly anyone showed up for them. People started showing up for the briefs which don't even deserve to lick the crap off of the real mckenzies boots. What struck me is they didn't have a lot of people there but they still performed like it meant everything. They are what true punk is supposed to be about. Even if I do not like this album when I buy it, I would never recommend that people not buy this, because if you love the band you need to show them your support.

2-0 out of 5 stars Love the band... HATE this CD.
For the first time I feel ripped off by this band and since I love what they do and what they stand for (HARDCORE pride in heritage & their punk attitude) that makes the feeling even more painful. Let's start with the content. Considering that this is the same group that put out "Loch'd & Loaded" last year (one of THE best CD's that I've bought in the last 5 years) I just have one question... Where are those songs? Not one of those kicking tunes has a live counterpart here. Second, the sound quality and production is terrible!! It's song continuity seems spliced, the audience sounds like they're asleep and , let's be honest, Paul's voice was not in the best shape that night. Still, there are highlights; "Stompin' Intro" & "Will Ye Be Proud" are good (not great). I don't understand why other people have given this such high marks? 5-0 out of 5 stars Clan Davidson approved for good times
The Real McKenzies are an excellent live band, and this collection does good justice to the energy and spontaneity of their live shows. "Pissed Tae Th' Gills" is a great mix of songs from their previous albums, along with some new tunes not released elsewhere.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Ska Junkie is correct
This is without doubt the worst album ever released. that should explain enough why not to buy it. but other reasons are: the band sounds nothing like original catch 22. theyve turned into bubble gum pop ska.. and its terrible. Most of this live album are great songs.. but with the worst vocalist i have ever heard. In my opinion he should never attempt to sing Tomas's songs if he writes songs that say the word "started" a million times. his voice reminds me of Kermit the frog and he should get back with the muppets(and also should stop singing jeff davidson era stuff). the other half of this "album" is full of songs from Dinosaur Sounds, a poor excuse for a catch 22 record. if i could give this album negative stars i would.. so do yourself a favor and buy a cd with more original catch 22 members than catch 22 itself has now Streetlight Manifesto, or get Alone in a Crowd or Keasbey Nights both are good albums. I hope one day this band realizes what a sad excuse they are.. well thats all good night and good luck

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
This is a great album. I have seen Catch 22 live so many times, the dvd is great to watch, it just gets broing at times.

5-0 out of 5 stars EVILIVE
Yes This Cd Doesn't have the best recording quality but hell it's the MISFITS live in concert so how the hell can you go wrong

3-0 out of 5 stars Explaining the sound quality issues...
if you are a hardcore fan then you have already owned either the Fiend Club singles from which these recordings first appeared, the German import EP or the full length bootleg where Glenn verbally insults former guitarist Bobby Steele... yes, kiddies, the German import sounds superior to this release... either Glenn held onto the pristine master tapes after being ripped off by the German label and refused to give them up for the American release or the tapes were damaged at some point... Jerry has claimed that Glenn will not release the master tapes and that some portions of the box set were taken from second and third generation cassettes...
2-0 out of 5 stars Tape Version Was Better
Is it just me, or does this CD sound horrible in comparison to the release on actual audio tape? It sounds very tinny on CD. Furthermore, they removed the most interesting, hilarious track, the one where Danzig improvs his "Bobby Steele's an a-hole" lyrics during Teenagers from Mars. That was half the reason I bought this, and was very annoyed to find it missing. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars X - Very live!
I have been lucky enough to have seen X quite a few times and this is pretty close to the live experience. All that's missing is the sheer volume (which you can adjust to your neighbor's limits!), the swirling mosh pit and a sticky beer soaked floor.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than the first volume.
Don't feel like typing too much, but I like this volume more than volume one. Most of the songs here are also from the years 1977-1981, so in that respect this is like volume 1, part 2. But the unreleased and live tracks on this compilation make it better than the first, and definitely a keeper.

5-0 out of 5 stars do the dance do the dance do the dance!
a truly amazing compilation with lots of previously unreleased tracks. there are a few songs off condor, but most are early 80's or late 70's. live versions of some familiar tunes like "destroy all music" along with experimental stuff that never made it beyond the stage. this runs the gammut through the weirdos entire range. awesome ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Live, Tight, Awesome !!!
Bad Brains have to have been at this time, the tightest band I have ever heard play live (which I did on numerous occasions 1988-1993).And this recording captures their tight, high energy performances perfectly.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Live CD
This is a really good cd, it shows the Bad Brains could play great concerts in front of little crowds. The songs are all good choices, and sound even better than the album versions. My personal favorite is I and I Survive. H.R.'s voice is really energetic on songs like At The Movies and Secret 77. This was of a concert from around 1988, when they were really into metal. Bad Brains were original, and you can hear their performing talent.

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome live Brains.
This is a really great "Bad Brains" album, with a good live performance, and even better song selection. Included is "Right Brigade", "I Against I", "Re-Ignition", and the cover of "Day Tripper". I could listen to this punk reggae forever. But, even though this and "Spirit Electricity" are great live albums, neither is as good as "The Youth Are Getting Restless". That's 17 tracks of furious perfection. Too bad they don't play like it anymore. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars First Class Hardcore
I love this record. This has been one of my fave NYHC releases since i first got into it around '91. This is Agnostic at their absolute peak, in my opinion. When they were at their most original and genuine. The later Matt Henderson stuff is great, but a bit of a Biohazard rip-off, i'm sorry to say. This is when Steve Martin on lead guitar gave Agnostic their OWN SOUND!
5-0 out of 5 stars Landmark Recording
I was at this show and let me tell you that this album is an important document in the annals NYHC history. Not only do Agnostic Front perfectly represent the NYHC style of the time, it represents it at it's pinnacle moment. Agnostic Front was in top form and their performance that day was mind blowing. Everyone there knew they were witnessing something special as this album was recorded. This was supposed to be Agnotic Front's farewell performance. After that day it seems the hardcore scene was forever changed, it died a little, and "Live At CBGB" is it's swan song. As "A Music Fan" notes below, the recording is very clean, and he feels that the vocals may have been re-recorded. It's possible. Agnostic Front had to perform their trademark tune "Eliminator" twice because of microphone problems (that unfortunately wrecked both performances), but otherwise this album is exactly as I remember it being performed. If you are a hardcore fan, or a music historian, you owe it to yourself to own this album.

4-0 out of 5 stars 1 minor flaw but still essential
This album captures the essence of a Sunday Matinee at CB's (minus the beatdowns). The only thing that prevents this album from garnering a 5 star review is the fact that alot of the tracks and vocals sound like they were re-recorded - it sounds a lil too clean..some of the rawness is missing. I would have liked all of the feedback and sound drop-outs when the band is getting jumped on by the crowd left intact, but having said that, this is worth it just to hear Vinny Stigma telling the crowd to "sing this song in uni-since." Also killer versions of "Anthem," "Blind Justice/Last Warning," and Iron Flag's "Crucified." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If it itches....SCRATCH IT!!!
I was going to write a review complaining about Sioux's voice and the head scratching decision that they left off my favorite song "Cities In Dust"....ok, well I'll still complain about that! But for the voice, one of the reviewers had written that it wasn't about bland precision of the vocals, but art. And he's right. Early Banshee recordings showcased Siouxs almost tone deaf screeches of an unexperienced punk singer. And it worked! Now, with time and a whole lot of cigarettes, Siouxsie's voice is lower and harsher, but still retains the passion of an up and comer. We were pretty spoiled with her 80s near perfect range, and really that was her best songwriting and singing era. But...it was still different from the melisma "let's sing loud and hold a note for 5 minutes to disguise no talent" like what's been going around now *coughamericanidolcoughcough*. It seems every Disney channel/Nickelodeon pre-teen has magically produced the ability to "sing"(i'll use that term lightly).
5-0 out of 5 stars siouxsie - chopped and screwed.,
yup, she drops it all an octave and throws in some scratchin'.
5-0 out of 5 stars truly magnificent
i really agree that sioux voice is not the same like in the past

5-0 out of 5 stars An awesome album of the king of SCUM GG Allin!!
This is not a studio album. It is, in fact a compilation of studio tracks and live material from 3 or 4 different performances.Still it lives in my mind as one of, if not THE BEST GG Allin album. This was my first GG album purchased in 91' when I was only 11 ( no wonder I'm so @#$%ed up!) and I STILL listen to it all the damn time. The version I bought back then didn't have the three bonus tracks thats on the current version though so your getting an even better deal now.3-0 out of 5 stars got poop?
i'm in a quandry as to how to address this disc. on one hand, redeeming social value of any kind is absent, musically its either generic hardcore or sluggish metal, & lyrically its about as offensive as possible. this cd is the aural equivalent of being thrown up on. on the other hand, a lot of it is kinda fun! the in between "song" patter (recorded live) is frequently uproarious (i wasn't aware of gg's love of animals until i heard this) and the "songs" recorded early in his career are at least entertaining (classic line: "you tell me to kiss your a--/well bend over buddy, here comes my foot!" - dylan has never written a line as great as that). unfortunately, "tunes" recorded only a few short years later are quite awful: badly recorded, badly played, and badly "sung". most of the reviews for this platter are along the lines of "if you have to get one...", which is about as good of an endorsement as possible for a gg allin cd. so buy it and have a merry christmas beating up your family & pooping on them.

1-0 out of 5 stars I've heard better
This is truly a sad & disgusting CD, filled with vile and degrading lyrics that anyone with a four-letter vocabulary could easily write. Amazingly, a label produced it and people buy it. Don't waste a nickel on this noise. ... Read more

Editorial Review

This New York aggregation got more of a name for their extracurricular indulgences than for their music, which is a crying shame, since--as this dreadfully recorded, yet brilliant debut proves--they were as potent a rock force as the early punk scene produced. Junkie paeans like "Chinese Rocks" and "Born Too Loose" stagger along with defiant, on-the-edge vitality, due in large part to the street-waif yowl and post-Keef guitar wrangling of leader Johnny Thunders. But don't get the notion that the Heartbreakers were one-trick ponies: Tracks like "All by Myself" and "I Wanna Be Loved" rank with the most poignant rock songs of the era. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best L.A.M.F.
Tragically, the Heartbreakers' fabulous studio album, L.A.M.F., could be the most-overlooked record of the punk era. This is its second incarnation, mixed in the early 1980's by Johnny Thunders himself. He brought his guitar way, way up...it's loud, it's sharp, it melts the wax in your ears. I am an admitted Johnny Thunders fanatic; my final words on this CD are: it's my favorite of all my Thunders CD's.

4-0 out of 5 stars Venus with Mustache
Buy the Lost Mixes from Amazon. Poor Johnny re-mixed this---that tell you anything? But it's still the same great stuff. The mixes are richer, but still enough to shake the graveyards to break the band up yet again.A flawed masterpiece.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great album but buy " The Lost '77 Mixes"version instead
This great album by The Heartbreakers has been around in at least three versions since 1977.The original release on Track records suffered from a terrible mix that doomed this fantastic and overlooked album. This version "LAMF Revisited" was released in 1984 and boasts only marginally better sound than the original. As best I can tell the treble was boosted on this release. I listened to it back to back versus my Lp version and the sound and mix is better but still poor.Read more
