5-0 out of 5 stars brings back fond memories
Never mind the garbage that the Corporate Media tries passing for Punk Rock! This CD brings back fond memorieswhen Punk was Not on MTV! This music is "old school" and 20 years later it can still get your toe tapping!5-0 out of 5 stars A Tulsa Tradition
NOTA was the one.I saw them multiple times during the early 80's and they OWNED the scene.Everyone who saw them knew what a phenomenon they were. This album gives you the opportunity to hear them at their top level. There are very few copies of their early records (toy soldiers, moscow) but this cd offers even more, a glipse of their live show.

4-0 out of 5 stars NOTA-Punk Gods from Oklahoma!
I saw these guys live several times in the early 80's and they typically stole the show from numerous headliner acts.NOTA had an extremely fresh sound for 1982 and several of the songs still sound original today, especially tunes like Night Stick Justice, Moscow, Toy Soldiers, and Propaganda Control. Some of the other tracks sound a little played simply because the genre has run its course.NOTA was very critically acclaimed in their day.I remember one of the progressive record labels released an international compilation of punk bands from around the world and NOTA was selected with the Crucifux to represent the US. This was quite an honor because there were over 100 bands in contention. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible
Long before Korn, or Limp Bizkit, or any other band claiming that they were responsible for "rap-rock", there was Biohazard. The best band you've never heard, they are every bit as tough as they sound; hailing from the Bronx and delivering a punishing metal rhythm fused with some rhymes that made the band unique in their day."No Holds Barred" finds the band in Europe of all places, clocking in with 24 tracks of pure adrenaline pumping, headbanging music that's better than just about anything else the genre has pumped out today.Classic tracks like "What Makes Us Tick", "Urban Discipline", "Business", "Better Days", "Black and White and Red All Over", "Tears of Blood", "Chamber Spins Three", "Wrong Side of the Tracks", and "Punishment" are brought to life live, and the recording quality is surprisingly tight.Although I would have loved to have seen "Loss" included on this set, I can't complain with how just plain awesome this collection is.A must have for any and every Biohazard fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!
One of the best live CD's ever. Over 20 tracks of quality Biohazard music. A definite for any true metal fan!

5-0 out of 5 stars RAW, LIVE AND AWESOME
This is a great cd, the sound is very raw and how they would sound as if you were listening to them right there!Check out "Love Denied" and "What Makes us Tick"!24 tracks you cant go wrong! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars BAD BRAINS@ THEIR BEST!!!!
FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH,THE BRAINS FIRST BAY AREA VISIT LASTED ABOUT A MONTH.THEY STAYED @ BARRINGTON HALL(ACROSS THE STREET FROM ME!),& PRACTICED DAILY.I CAN SAY THAT I'VE SEEN THEM LIVE MORE TIMES THAN I CAN COUNT,& I SAY THIS IS ONE OF THEIR BEST RELEASES,A MUST HAVE FOR ANY FAN.I'VE ALWAYS FELT THAT THE BAD BRAINS NEVER GOT A FAIR SHAKE ON THE MIXING BOARD WITH TREIR EARLY RELEASES,WITCH HAPPEN TO BE MY FAVORITES.LIVE IN S.F. HAS AN EXCELLANT BOARD MIX,EQUAL TO THE "YOUTH ARE GETTING RESTLESS"RELEASE.WHY DO I GIVE "LIVE IN S.F.THE EDGE? BECAUSE THE SET LIST IS LESS DEPENDANT ON SONGS FROM "I AGAINST I".LIVE IN S.F.FEATURES MORE SONGS FROM MY FAVE BRAINS L.P.'S(BANNED IN D.C.,ROCK FOR LIGHT,COPTIC TIMES).IF THESE ARE THE BAD BRAINS YOU LIKE THE MOST,THEM THIS IS THE LIVE BRAINS FOR YOU!-----SPECIAL ED

3-0 out of 5 stars More for completists and longtime fans than anything else...
...This is a well-mixed album (much better than The Youth Are Getting Restless, which, strangely, suffered from Ron St. Germain's pompous, hair-metal style), but a generally middle-of-the-road performance from a legendary band.Much has been made of H.R.'s completely-incomprehensible babble between songs on this album--while it's true that he's pretty far out at this point (read: insane), it doesn't negatively affect his performance. To be sure, his singing is far more sedate than it has been on prior recordings (virtually gone is his hardcore growl), but that's not entirely unexpected from a bunch of fortysomething guys still playing hardcore punk.
4-0 out of 5 stars Bad Brains Reunion Tour Coming!
I was at this show... I really liked it... my understanding about why they reunited as Soul Brains is because of HR's nervious breakdown and the demise of the Bad Brains during thier tour for thier major lable 'debut' on Madonna's Maverik records back in '95... (I saw that tour also)... all I can say is that I give mad props to any band that never gave up and made such ritious music... the word on the street is that there is another reunioun tour comming and a new album in the can; watch for them! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars A collection of rare stuff. For fans and collectors.
This 22-track album is a collection of of previously released 7 inches, B-sides, contributions to compilations and live recordings made between 1991 and 1993, which are no longer available anywhere else. The quality ofthe songs varies greatly, with some excellent moments ("FlameproofSuit", "World Tour") alternating with some pretty mediocreones. I guess this is an album for fans and collectors. Other people mightbe a bit disappointed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A magic "highway band" in its full majesty...
These recordings have been remastered from tapes belonging to Ernie Brooks and it is a shame they were not released before. This is pure rock in progress and the unique chance to catch the young and angry Jonathan with his perfect "highway" band, the Modern Lovers.5-0 out of 5 stars Legendary & Live
This cd is worth it just for "96 Tears" & "Wake Up Sleepyheads", which you can only find here.Throw in the only live versions of "Old World" & "Modern World" out there, & an "I'm Straight" that's different from the one on "Precise M. L.s Order", & it's essential. All in all "Precise" is better for rarities, but until they come up with a "Complete Live Lovers", you must have both. The most interesting songs to me are the cover songs "96 Tears" & "Foggy Notion", which sound like they could've been written by Jonathan & point out the influence that 60's garage rock & the Velvet Underground had on them. What was completely new was Jonathan's lyrics & delivery, which were very influential (the guy from the Violent Femmes is the only one that really came close). ... 4-0 out of 5 stars ...

4-0 out of 5 stars "Utterly" Great Album
I wish this was a ten star rating system, cause I would give this album a nine.I just have to reserve a five for a pinnicle record.Anyways, this is a really good live record.Like all of the "Live in a Dive" series, this record really represents the specific Utters show.I've seen them twice and it is picture perfect. Why are the Utters the Bay Area's favorite band?Listen and find out. After getting home from the enitial drive from buying the cd, I was on song 12, only half the way through.Yes!!! So many good songs! If there is one thing you can say from a Fat Wreck Chords release is that you are guarenteed to get your money's worth and more. PS. I was surprised at how well the backup vocals came out, they can't be easy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Live in a Dive
This release, the latest in the Fat Live in a Dive series, sees San Franciscan punks Swingin' Utters perform 23 of their fun punk tunes live.As with most punk bands, the Utters are at their best in their live element, proving that they can do their thing on stage just as well as they do in the studio, but with the added bonus of the on-stage banter, screams from the crowd, and of course the energy of a live punk show. All of these elements come together to give Live in a Dive that unique atmosphere that you can only find on a good live release. It's hard to pick highlights because it's all so good and so varied, with songs spanning the better part of their 15 year career having been included. With the acoustic `Fruitless Fortunes', and `All I Can Give', the faster, rawer, punk classics `Five Lessons Learned' and `Here we are Nowhere', and, of course, the fun sing-along favorites `The Dirty Sea' and `Catastrophe', the Swingin' Utters ensure that all bases are covered, making Live in a Dive accessible to all fans, new and old. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Time Travel
Okay, the reviews are either 1 or 5. I give it a four because I bought it, ignored it on my iPod for almost a year, and have listened to it three times all the way through in the last 24 hours.
2-0 out of 5 stars I love the Germs, but really...
OK, let`s get one thing straight. The Germs are one of my favorite punk bands ever, and I really like their music, as they recorded some of the best stuff the L.A -scene had to offer. But really, can anyone say that they like listening to this album? Admit it, the Germs were pretty disasterous as a live group. I`m not saying this about the band, in their last active years (circa 1979-80) the band was a tight gang, and everyone knew how to play their instruments. But even in their "heyday" (can you say that about the Germs anyway?) their live shows were a complete mess. For God`s sake, Darby had to consume a crapload of drugs to perform! And if Darby was the reason that their live shows were a train wreck in their best days, this one, this album was recorded in 1977. That was when the Germs couldn`t even play. Add to that the wasted performance by Darby (in the time of this album, Bobby Pyn) and you`ve got yourself a very, very bad live album.
1-0 out of 5 stars One star for the music, but...
...five for pure atmosphere. This is not the band that would later record "Germs(GI)"; this is four kids screwing around, having fun. There are hints of talent in songs like 'Forming' and 'Let's Pretend', but most of the set is a mess. Still, the importance of the moment that "Germicide" documents--the infancy of America's most influential punk scene--cannot be diminished. For a frightening contrast(and I'm not using "frightening" in a hyperbolic way), listen to this CD and then watch the documentary "The Decline of Western Civilization" in which the late-period Germs appear. It will give you an idea of the dark depths plumbed on the L.A. punk scene in the space of two and a half years. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Classic Scumbag Depression Noise
First of all ignore the live tracks.GG was in prison and some dude released the live tracks as a cassette only release just to make money, they are utter crap. Now SUICIDE SESSIONS is an album recorded in 1988 that was one of GG's personal favorite albums. To most people it sounds like noise and garbage. BUT if you seriously delve into the album, it's brilliant! The opening track "(Thinkin' Of You Is Like A) Dagger In My Heart" is full of emotion, GG must've been thinking of his ex-wife who many say he never got over losing. The studio version of the concert-favorite "I Live To Be Hated" can be found here. One of my personal favorite GG songs, "Liquor Slicked Highway" is a killer as well.Only downside to SUICIDE SESSIONS is that it contains the worst song GG ever recorded, the too-long instrumental (GG on drums, Mark Sheehan on guitar) "Pain & Suffering".The track listing is wrong as well..."Kiss Me In The Gutter" is actually a song called "Jailed Again", you have to get the "No Room" single to get "Kiss Me In The Gutter".There are also two songs from these sessions only available on bootleg cassettes, they are "Fire & Fury" and "Isolation" one of which I've heard is another instrumental.
2-0 out of 5 stars GG's worst recording
This is GG's least successful recording (Suicide Sessions). He must have been on a bigger drunk than usual (other substances also involved, I assume) when this was taped. Not sure if GG had a hand in its release. TheCD consists of a bunch of extremely rawly recorded numbers, more noise thanmusic. Sounds like it was recorded in a cement mixer. Not that that'snecessarily a bad thing: it is here. Skip this (unless you're a GGcompletist). For GG's best material get hold of: CARNIVAL OF EXCESS(country-style material); FREAKS, FAGGOTS.. (extremely raw, & shocking:but great tunes: at its best, astounding); BRUTALITY & BLOODSHED FORALL (last studio recording, with his last - and best - backing band, theMURDER JUNKIES: super shocking, yet amusing & highly curious, with someof GG's best ever songs). Also check the MURDER JUNKIES post-GG releases :the group is not cashing in on GG's fame, they're doing their own thing, ina similar, but definitely distinctly different style to the music of theirtime with GG: particularly good are some of the songs on the FEED MY SLEAZECD (or 10" record). The Murder Junkies features GG's brother Merle onbass: definitely an amusing & entertaining figure. People miss the factthat GG was a genuine musical talent. The Murder Junkies are definitelyworth checking: really one of the only combinations I can think of that aredoing any material of any interest here in 1999. GG we miss you. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars HARDCORE SUX!!!
THIS BAND IS TERRIBLE!!! I had to sit through them live when they were opening for the dropkick murphys. The guitars suck the lyrics are crappy and they have a crappy singer. It amazed me that people like these guys actually got a record label. Old school hardcore punk like this is crap. I recommend u dont waste the time on ur computer to download this stuff.

5-0 out of 5 stars Blood for Blood, Jersey Hardcore at its best.
I have to say that out of all the hardcore that I've listened to in my time Blood for Blood in one of the most influencial bands that I've heard. There lyrics speak of the hidden life of the people kicked out, beatin in, and forced to live on the street. This able, like all others, has all of those explicitly true lyrics. If they still played shows I would be the first one on line to get tickets, and the first one in the building to see them. By far, one of the best albums of all time, five stars in my book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Buzzcocks forever
Two great shows from the best pop-punk band in the world. Here you can find two cds: The first one called "Small songs with big hearts" recorded at London Rainbow 1979 during the Another kind of tension album tour; and "Beating hearts", recorded live at Manchester Apollo 1978 during the Love Bites album tour. 36 songs of pure Buzzcocks energy and melody with superb sound quality. Forget about todays trendy and lame pop-punk and go for the real thing. Get this double cd, you wont be disappointed. Some of the songs are repeated on both cds but, how can you get tired of listening to gems like "What do I get?" or "Ever fallen in love". Check out their more recent albums, theyre great also. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars gg allin, ruler of the world
good cd, but sometimes very bad quality!5-0 out of 5 stars Not About Me
Back in 1988, I spent time with G.G. in Montreal, Vermont, and Boston(at Merle's). G.G. would tell people (jokingly) that the song "Hangin' Out With Jim" was written about me. Actually, it was written about hisfondness for Jim Beam. Just thought I would clear that up.
