5-0 out of 5 stars A must and a classic
This was the first Goth compilation I ever bought - I was at a little used record place in Boston and was drawn to it. I've used it for my own compilations and as a teaching tool to learn about the Dark at Heart. Excellent choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent compilation
Im probably considered a newbie to Goth and Darkwave, but I have found this compilation to have some really interesting and good tracks from a variety of artists. Artists I have not been exposed to yet.CD 3 is my favorite with many songs I liked. I recommend this release

4-0 out of 5 stars A good starter set, not for every fledgling batling.
This set was one of the first "Gothic" CD sets that I purchased, and I truly believe that it's an excellent sort of sampler to the different types of music that make up the Gothic music genre. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Another good deal with a broader range of styles
For this second "Grave," they build on the success of the first one by keeping the same crazy-[low] price and switching the lineup. Some tracks, like The Cruxshadows' "Marilyn, My Bitterness V2.0" straddle goth, techno and 80s new wave all at once. 4-0 out of 5 stars Had to mention Matrix
my review was mainly to point out a great song on disc 2 that failed to get mentioned previously. while the rest mentioned are good, i find the best song to be Matrix's Dreams are Real. I have since searched for other music by this band. It is compilations like this that make great bands like Matrix rise to the occasion.

4-0 out of 5 stars An affordable cross-section of the dark underground
Fortunately the first Unquiet Grave release warranted a sequel, this timewith EBM and Industrial thrown into the mix.Like the first, there's muchgood, bad and in-between among the 33 tracks, but all in all it'sdefinitely worth the low price tag.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Muito bom !!!
Como eu gosto muito de musica gotica, sou suspeita..
2-0 out of 5 stars classy goth type stuff.
the music can be explained and defined pretty much as the title itself just think of "classic". I assumed the music was going to be very club material that has a history of songs being played after the years by clubs.. a large portion of the cd i cannot see it as a gothic "club" material esspecially throwing in some type-o.. i been through alot of clubs and i cannot find a way to hit that song in the dance floor.. if not i guess i have been in the wrong places.. it looks to me they ran out of ideas and threw in some mainstream that everyone listens to so they wouldi was very dissapointed in the whole cd. listened to a few songs here and there, if you are into the old stuff then this is the stuff for you.. i really dont recomend this cd to any collection besides you want to be blasted in the past..

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad....Not Bad At All!
Having left my Gothic Club mix CD at home, I decided to buy this one. What hooked me first was the live recording of "Bela Lugosi's Dead" by Bauhaus, which is classic Goth music. Some of the bands I liked, some I didn't, but all in all this is a great CD. My favorite is "Sheryl" on the second CD. This is a great CD for chilling, dancing, or showing the uneducated masses what Goth music really is. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Response to shadowvein
Referring to your comment on Switchblade Symphony, the song Mother is found on "The Black Bible", a 4-disc compilation of goth and industrial music. Most of the songs on there are unreleased, rare mixes, b-sides, or anything else that makes a track hard to find. I suggest anyone with an ear for Goth and related styles, check this set out!

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice
This is a great start for the "Beginer Goth" and those looking for a few popular and hard to find songs on one cd by well known and lesser known artists. The song 'Drool(Mother)' by "Switchblade Sympany" is an example: hard to find song (at least by me) from a very popular artist. I've only found it on one other disk, and for the death of me, I cannot remember what it was! Grr >:( The 3-disk set "This is Goth" is similar in feel and content -a great companion to Goth:M.O.T.S vol.1 that isn't in the M.O.T.S. series.

4-0 out of 5 stars Goth: Music of the Shadows
i bought this album a little while back and i have been listening to it non-stop... it is totally fantastic and a very good introduction for those interested in the darker side of the goth scene... it has a great selection of songs, including classic goth superstars Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, and All About Eve, along with a few i had never heard before, like Gitane Demone, Switchblade Symphony, and X-mal Deutschland... in fact, i wholeheartedly believe this is a great addition to a record collection of new and seasoned goths alike... as with all compilations, there were one or two tracks that didnt take my fancy, but that is subjective... if u can get it second hand on the cheap, grab it! ... This is a OK comp of older Goth bands, ... but its a good comp to own if your curious about some of the older bands.4-0 out of 5 stars Has some really good songs
This compilation is one of the better Gothic compilations I've stumbled upon.It has some really good songs, but I gave it 4 stars because I don't always listen to half of the songs. It is still worth buying though.Fans of Southern Death Cult and Theatre of Hate will be delighted to find unreleased mixes of Moya and Black Madonna.5-0 out of 5 stars La mejor introduccion a la musica dark

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly Purrrr-fecto!!!Ambient Cat-Relief^_^
Simply want to add my unequivocal recommendation that Amazon.com shoppers, especially those of you who love cats and/or things that go goth in the nite, add this to your collection. In fact, better get multiple copies. You may need to give it as a gift to keep friends and xluvers from scarfing your only copy. Can you relate? How many chances do you get to tithe a heartfelt cause and get a CD that seems to take up perpetual residence (like the neighbor's kitten) in your player? Jaded and newbie creatures of the night alike will find new coalescences of talent to get manic about, as well as experience xstatic fits of affirmation for the familiar obsessed over prior. This Projekt compilation covers a spectrum of goth sects with an admirable, seamless poise. There's even purrrty pictures of the feline companions that no doubt inspired the musicians - like that cool cat, Cayman (Mira). If you would like a breakdown of tracks, amble over to Caitlin R. Kiernan's eloquent review. Then bring this home for you and your cat. Don't have one? On the way home, stop by a local shelter and let one pick you out. Could be the start of a beautiful friendship. Uhm, I gotta go now. I just heard the can opener and I think it's tuna night; albacore, yum!... ^_^

4-0 out of 5 stars Otherworldly (and sometimes worldly) gems.
I was new to the heady delights issuing forth from Projekt Records when I bought this album, and I have to say, it blows me away and has inspired many a foray in search of more from some of the artists featured. I still play it frequently (usually with a couple of tracks ommitted, I have to say). 4-0 out of 5 stars Mira says it best... Divine
I love buying compilation albums (especially from Projekt records) because it's a great way to discover new bands. There's usually several duds among the bunch but there's always a few hidden gems that really catch the ear and make it all worthwhile. "Seireenia" is a collection of relatively slow numbers with ethereal singers that spellbind like sirens, enslaving you with their haunting voices... This contains some of the best ambient darkwave groups presently around, such as Black Tape for a Blue Girl with "Overwhelmed, Beneath Me" and Lycia with one of my favorite songs by them, "Baltica", but there's also a slur of lesser known acts that are just as talented. Rajna, which opens the album with a tribal feel that will certainly appeal to Dead Can Dance fans, the short yet remarkably stunning "Questo Mostrarsi" by Love Is Colder Than Death, the transcending beauty of "Maare Illucescend" by Stoa and "It Swallows Me Whole" by Rosewater Elizabeth impressed me in particular. And while "Dissolve" by Switchblade Symphony may sound a bit out of place it fits in perfectly. Besides, an upbeat tempo was definitely in order.

3-0 out of 5 stars Very Average
There isn't much to get excited about on this cd.All of the voices and music pretty much blend into each other and there is very little distinction between artists. It is not bad, just not very inspired.Switchblade Symphony is the best of the bunch but you would be better off buying one of their cd's.Marginally good ritual music.Save your pennies unless you can get it used. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for setting the mood.
I've been running a Vampire: The Masquerade game now for over three years. This year I decided to try and incorporate more music into the game but have had difficulty finding music that could be intense and creepy without being distracting.Lyrics are rare on this CD and what there is, is very soft. The focus is on the music itself. It helps get me and the players into the mood whether I want desperate, excited, haunted, or frightening.I am very happy I bought this CD.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous collection of electronic/gothic tracks
Most theme albums of this sort have, in my experience, two or three really good cuts on them, with the majority being mediocre to bad tunes that serve as filler to be skipped. 'Vampire Rituals' is a rare and welcome exception!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best
This has got to be the number one greatest gothic compilation I have ever heard. Rather than sticking really bad darkwave bands on a really bad compilation, they stuck amazing mind bending music on here. This is goth to a "T"5-0 out of 5 stars Nice old school goth
I bought this album on a whim, and have never regretted it.It's got a great mix of mostly English goth bands who started the whole scene.Bauhaus' "Bela Lugosi's Dead" is a real classic of course and theanchor for the rest of the album.I also especially enjoyed the aural washof Love and Rockets' "Saudade"While a lot of the album could bedescribed as somber rock, it ends on a goofy note with The Cramps'"Goo Goo Muck," an irreverant take off on old American horrormovies.Great liner notes with pictures of all of the bands too.I can'trecommend this album enough. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars about Tommy Demise
I didn't see the main review as it has now apparently vanished. I'd probably back up your thoughts completely, as I chose what went on the CD! Thanks, whatever it was about.

3-0 out of 5 stars In response to the main review.
Well, after reading the first couple of sentences, it became painfully obvious that this reviewer knows ABSOLUTELY NOTHING at all about Deathrock, Gothic rock, and apparently Goth in general. I am sure he was quite proudof his review, and felt he did a great job for a guy that has only heardone *Goth* related album, and it seems very much so that this happens to bethe one. I really do not understand how this *reviewer* can remotely claimthat James Ray is an Eldritch clone. The reviewer apparently isn't aware ofthe fact that James Ray was once the vocalist for a Sisters side-project;The Sisterhood. So, wouldn't this make James Ray an Eldritch PEER? And whyone would mention Jim Morrison and David Bowie in this review is beyond me.Goth sprung from punk- NOT 70's rock, metal or hardcore, seeing thathardcore didn't emerge until the 80's and goth type bands were around inthe 70's( Such as Joy Division, UK Decay, Siouxsie and The Banshees, etc.).I've also noticed that you seem to have had a problem figuring out why allthe bands on the compilation sounded very different from each other, dearreviewer. The answer being- because most of the bands on the comp. are fromdifferent subgenres of goth..Yes! There is a difference between Deathrock,Goth, and Gothic rock! You can not compare a band like Specimen (Adeathrock band that adopted a glammy look) to a band like Nosferatu. (Straight up gothic rock, that should be called a Sisters clone.) The sadthing about this whole thing is that, YOU are getting paid for this, andYOU have no idea what you are talking about, but on the other hand; I seemto have done my research, actually taken the time to get my facts straight, and *I* am not getting paid. Someone give me a job!5-0 out of 5 stars Sometimes you have to start with the basics
To get a feel for the music.A wonderful compilation of Gothic bands, both old and new.Virgin Prunes are so damn hard to find anywhere else,I'm glad they can be found here.If you're new to the genre or want tohave a small idea about it, this is a must have album. ... Read more

I don't know who this Saint Thomas guy is, but dedicating a compilation of music to Italy's version of Eva Braun makes me guess about his politics and possible racist motives. The artists represented don't seem to contributeto this questionalbe dedication (none of the songs appear to be writtenabout her), but just seemed to be dropped in at random with no flow or feelto the disc at all. There are actually a couple of nice tunes on here, butalot of "been there done that" but done better by others beforethem. ...
