4-0 out of 5 stars A Semi-Industrial Goth Rock Album
This is your typical moody, semi-industrial goth rock album. The band definitely takes their influence from he more popular Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Ministry and Frontline Assembly. The four-piece from Florida is painted up with Black eyeliner, makeup and the typical dyed hair of black to hot pink.
1-0 out of 5 stars Bad super-manufactured electro-crap from FL
The fact that some people call music like this "brilliant" just makes me cringe. This band is nothing more than a bunch of Hot Topic models playing the same tired metal riffs(static-x anyone?). The vocals are so over-processed that you would never know one way or the other if the guy could actually sing...which he cannot.. I live in their hometown and have witnessed their debauchery first-hand and...well....it sucked. From the stupid clothes and band names to their derivative boring music, this band is just about as bland as a warm glass of club soda. Even Crossbreed's music was WAY better than this drivel. I know I am breing harsh but really, its 2006 and we are still hearing the same stuff that we heard over a decade ago. If you love electronic rock you might as well do yourself some good and buy an album by Deadsy or Zeromancer...or dig out your old Orgy albums. But please stay away from this bad excuse for a marketing scheme. A total bore of an album. Nuff said.

5-0 out of 5 stars Deadstar Assembly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, I'am mind blown by this cd. It is sick! From the first track to the last. Not a bad song on it! No track skipping needed on this one. I don't know what else to say except, it's like they took the first album and smacked you in the face with it and this album they grabbed hold of your lower jaw and slammed it down your throut. I have got to see this band live! Buy This Album!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And join the DeadStar Army! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars KMFDM's Hau Ruck...crusade in the days of rage
A little recap of KMFDM. In my own words, they are perhaps the best-kept underground secret of the music world in the last 20 years. Their mixture of dance, pop, synth, metal guitars, industrial, and techno among other disciplines at their beck and call has helped their music stand the test of time, and also become anthemic in the modern times we live in. To read their lyrics or look at their colorful and bold album covers, you would think they were a group of rebels trapped in some virtual reality world that has George Orwell's "1984" as the backdrop, with the tankers from Tiananmen square closing in. Defiance against oppression, exposure of corruption, and voice of youth all come to mind when hear their music. Driving beats, parody filled quips from presidential speeches and dictators of the past, and electric synergy blend with a sonic boom that makes their most powerful songs something to behold. Just when you think they are formulaic, they slow it down with odd, circus type sounds or bouncy techno beats that blend in the female vocalists voice with conviction. It's more than a band, it's a unit. A team. And although the team has changed some via free agency over the years, it works. Unlike other bands that have played the swapping game, with KMFDM, the center DOES hold.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good stuff!!
I'm sick of all the reviews I'm reading telling people to pick up the older albums that have been out of print for so long...
3-0 out of 5 stars i gave it another chance, and its still pretty bad
yes, i removed my other review because i was still growing with my KMFDM tastes and i must say this is still one of the worst they have done. people really should start to understand that kmfdm are not a metal band. they may have gone metal-esque with albums like angst, wwIII, nihil, and this one, but really, that is like 4 albums out of 13.(14 if you count mdfmk)anyways. i would say hau ruck is about as good as don't blow your top. yeah, three of the first 5 songs(free your hate, new american century, and real thing)are amazing, but after that it drops off greatly. ruck zuck made some of the lesser songs better(amazing version of professional killer!), butm sadly this album gets little playtime by me. i would say picture attak without all the collaborators. i know some people hate tim skold, but i feel they needed him here...or at least raymond watts....a real gift would be en esch though!

5-0 out of 5 stars From Light to Renaissance
I first saw Faun in 2004, at Germany's underground music festival: The Wave Gothic Treffen.I had only heard a bit about them in terms of being "folk" musicians. When they took the stage I found myself immersed in a world of ancient Bacchic rites.

5-0 out of 5 stars If your a H.I.M. fan then you have to buy this!
I don't really have to say much about this item, so I'll some it up in two words, H.I.M. ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars good stuff
lots of good remixes, and rareties. last in my collection, now i've got it all.

5-0 out of 5 stars the single collection essential
this "album" is essential to any true to worship H-I-M fan. it had most of, if not all, the singles up to DSBH. lots of rarities, lives, and unheard of's. my only complaint is that buying The Single Collection takes the fun out of ebaying and scouring online for each individual single, by hand. it takes the fun out of searching and digging, being a fan at heart. oh well, doesn't mean you can't get the 'version with 1 song only." ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Deff Not their best!!!
This album sounds like a follow up to their first, as if the 2nd and 3rd had never happened. It's a real step back from the last 2, much cheesier, lotsa cliches(ie let's fu*k, lame or what!!). There are some cool sounds and they rock well but the 2nd and 3rd disc's are much much better!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Breaking Any Barriers, But Worth A Listen
It would have been very easy to trash this to album, to completely rip it apart. Afterall, Dope have always been somewhat of a secondary act in the nu-metal genre, and the fact that the genre is struggling to keep alive makes it all the easier to criticize a band like Dope who stubborningly stick to their guns. But this is actually a good album. "American Apathy" is quite possibly the definitive Dope album, combining elements from all three or their previous releases into one pleasing album.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not extraordinary
I bought this cd mainly because i heard dope was great from a friend, and for the most part i agree with him on that. The only downside is this was supposed to be a metal album, yet a few songs sound kind of whiny/punk to me, like Dream. Overall though the album was great, and if you got the bonus edition with the extra trakcs, the remixes are just as good. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Do ya think i'm sexy
Damn, man this gotta to be one of the best Al Jourgensen's creation... dont miss that one!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Listen to this, Listen to this!
Offensive to some, but the fun thing about this cd as well as the other RevCo stuff is that it's presented as a tossed off jokey affair. While the discs do contain humor, in title and lyrics, sonically and atmospherically, there is much attention to detail, musically. The musicianship on this disc is superb, especially the grating, distorted guitar work. As an aside, the front cover art features the track listing and running times of the songs, much like a promotional release would. Nice touch. Until this gets the proper rerelease treatment (w/ bonus tracks) seek out the Crackin' Up cd single as well, as it features Gila Copter 2 as an additional track, with a completely different stream-of-consciousness lyric by Dr. Timothy Leary. Out there...way, way out there. Recommended!!

4-0 out of 5 stars For real
On separate occasions, I killed a set of speakers with this CD, and managed to clear out a party of "normals" in under 5 minutes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Almost able to complete your collection . . . . almost.
I remember when I first saw this album in the "New Release" section of the "Alternative" aisle at my local record store (which was over 10 years ago, by the way). I about flipped my wig because I thought the Sisters had . . . finally . . . followed up "Vision Thing" with a surprise new release! Well, I was still pleasantly surprised to see that it was merely a collection of their early singles and EPs, but I was admittedly a bit let down that it wasn't a shiny new release. Still, "Some Girls Wander By Mistake" is ESSENTIAL for your Sisters collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Some Girls Wander By Mistake~ Sisters of Mercy
I distinctly remember listening to this cd in a store in Gothenburg in the summer of 1992.I had just turned 18 a month or so ago and I thouhgt it was astounding. I had never heard anything like it. So untamed and out of control and very cutting edge and different. Even though I do not dress like that anymore and my palate has grown considerably I still consider it to be a grand album with amazing tracks such as the extended temple of love, heartland and 1969. The book-let is great with all the images of the the singles and eps. The story written by Eldritch is hillarious and inteligent at the same time. This is a very well done compilation from the very intriguing mind of a certain Andrew Eldritch. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Only glimmers of the greatness to come
This is, not, technically the band's debut: that came in the British release of THREE IMAGINARY BOYS (which has a slightly different track lineup). But for us Yanks, this is the album that introduced Robert Smith and company. The multi-layered wash of guitar and keyboard is nowhere in evidence on this one, though. [Think stripped back angular post-punk new wave rock.]
4-0 out of 5 stars Underrated Punk
This album is consistent from begining to end.Every track can be liked the first time you listen Boys Dont Cry.Most ardent punk fans inundate themselves with crashing wave of Sex Pistols, Ramones, New York Dolls, and possibly MC5.However, this album amalgamates raw punk with an ethereal quilaity thats present throughout the whole album.Get this album today.

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS ACTUALLY 1000 STARS!
THE GUY WHO WROTE THE REVIEW ENTITLED "WHAT FUTURE LEGENDS ARE MADE OF..." IS SO RIGHT! THE CURE HAS RELEASED LIKE 13 ALBUMS BUT, BELIEVE ME, THIS IS THEIR BEST ONE! THE MUSIC IS QUITE PLAYFUL AND THEN IT COMES TO MORE SERIOUS MUSIC ("ANOTHER DAY," "THREE IMAGINERY BOYS") BUT I THINK THE PLAYFUL MUSIC IS THE BEST. I LOVE "FIRE IN CAIRO," "BOYS DON'T CRY," AND "SUBWAY SONG" (THAT ONE IS REALLY FUN IS A HALLOWEEN SORTA WAY), ALTHOUGH I WISH THAT THEY KEPT SELLING THE COPY WITH "WORLD WAR" ON IT. "WORLD WAR" IS EXCELLENT (I HEARD IT ON "THREE IMAGINERY BOYS (DELUXE EDITION).") THIS IS NOT ACTUALLY THEIR DEBUT, IT ACTUALLY COLLECTS THE LAST THREE SINGLES THAT THEY DID THAT WEREN'T INCLUDED ON 1979'S "THREE IMAGINERY BOYS," WHICH WERE "BOYS DON'T CRY," "JUMPING SOMEONE ELSE'S TRAIN," AND THE EXCELLENT SONG WITH AN UNPLEASANT TITLE BUT ITS ACTUALLY BASED ON THE NOVEL "THE STRANGER," "KILLING AN ARAB." THERE IS ALSO THE BEST SONGS FROM "THREE IMAGINERY BOYS," PLUS A REALLY COOL B-SIDE CALLED "PLASTIC PASSION" FROM THE "BOYS DON'T CRY" SINGLE. GET THIS NOW IF YOU'RE A FAN!!! I AM A 12-YEAR-OLD AND HAVE BEEN A FAN SINCE SEEING THEIR "END OF THE WORLD" MUSIC VIDEO. ANYWAYS, ENJOY THIS ALBUM. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars is this worth the money?
Yes!I fell in love with Jesu's first full length, and now this one has expanded my understanding of Jesu.Gorgeous album art that accurately describes the sounds. When I got this I listened to it about 4 times back to back... something I never would do with a full length record, so being a short EP has its advantages.Beautiful record.Justin is brilliant.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stunning Epic Experimental Metal.
This ep (approx 28 minutes running time) is exactly what I had hoped it would be. I am unfamiliar with Justin's work, although I am a big fan of most the bands on Hydrahead (Isis, Pelican etc).Firstly, the four songs combine to create a great piece of music, crushingly heavy but beautiful guitars, a mixture of up-tempo and doomy drum patterns, and almost pop-esque vocals.Melodic and ambient interludes interwoven with industrial rhythyms and swirling lead guitars - all capped off with Justin's fantastic vocals.
4-0 out of 5 stars Justin does it again...but just a little different
Most of Justin's legion of fans we're just head over heels in love with Jesu's first full length from last year. And, myself included, we all doubted whether Justin could at least match the greatness of that album. So, Silver is released. And while there's a progression from the drone elements of the Jesu s/t, this has plenty to offer still.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best
This is the best album of Covenant, evenpeople might say it was a commercial attempt because they were on a major label , this album is a classic , no doubt

4-0 out of 5 stars I dig it
I forgot how i heard about this group but when I first gave this a try I instantly liked it because it does have a depeche mode sound that I love, check it out G.

3-0 out of 5 stars EBM PULSATORS FROZEN>>>>
This cd is a good cd, but not excellent. I am a fan of Covenant, but this cd isn't one of their better ones, how ever it does contain a some important gems. Covenant is like Blondie in the respect that they do try new things, but this time around they don't seem as into it as usual. You can tell the songs they put their all into, and you can tell the songs they really weren't interested in themselves. The cover is haunting and one of the best EBM covers ever for a cd. A man frozen in a chair! This cd contians 4 really great important songs along with so-so songs. "Monochrome" starts out monotone and pulsing and grows to thunderous passion by the end of the song. "Call The Ships To Port" is perhaps my favorite of all Covenant songs. The synths wail in the background, the lyrics are haunting, and the bass throbs. "Bullet" is just pure EBM passion."We Stand Alone" is just a haunting danceable song. Would I buy this cd? Yes, even though it is uneven. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A KMFDM Classic
This is a great time to be a KMFDM fan. Not only are they releasing awesome new music in the form of Hau Ruck and the Ruck Zuck EP, they are releasing remastered versions of their classic back catalog. One thing I always disliked about old KMFDM was the sound level on their discs was always so long. Not anymore! Everything about this package is great. Old and new fans alike owe it to themselves to pick this up.

5-0 out of 5 stars thank you so much...FINALLY!
i would say that these albums are a much needed breath of life into the rotting corpse of classic, lost, and forgotten KMFDM awesomeness....everything is better about the new metropolis records releases than the wax trax/tvt releases. first, they are a TON cheaper, not to mention easier to find...you can buy a brand new one for less than you would spend on those used things...second, the sound is mega improved over the old ones...so now you can actually mix these UAIOE, DBYT, and WDYKD tracks in playlists with Attak, WWIII, and Hau Ruck without being frustrated at the scratchieness and volume differences...and finally, the packaging is much more attractive and informative....you get a nice little story about the album, some nice photos of the band, and lyrics finally!...and this album, UAIOE, informed me that the Jamaican band member Morgan Adjei, had died....sad, since i loved his voice and contribution to this amazing album and i know why this lineup was never present again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great-sounding collection, with a retro gem
This CD has the first Creatures song I ever heard, the delirious "Right Now," which if I recall dates back to 1983.This Las Vegas-like number sounds sort of like what Siouxsie and Budgie might do if they were to lure Frank Sinatra into some type of bizarre collaboration.Siouxsie kicks off the song in a tense, husky warble that soon explodes into an all-out swing dance, with bongos and a brass section that could have come straight out of the 1960's.
5-0 out of 5 stars far edge
terribly fascinating and soothing tracks with a master percussionist and his visionary goddess on magical vocals.5-0 out of 5 stars Souxsie and Budgie make love in public

5-0 out of 5 stars night ride on eldritch boulevard
people who bash this album for not being "floodland II" are not to be taken seriously; they're simply being too narrow minded.
4-0 out of 5 stars Less goth, "More" metal.
Though I admit this isn't as good as "First And Last And Always" or "Floodlands", I still really like it. "Vision Thing" has been knocked by some for being too commercial, or too sell-out, but I don't really see that. I just see it as really good goth-metal, not quite like "Type O Negative", but good. In fact, I don't see how someone could like their other albums, and not this one, it's still very similar. "More" seemed to be the only hit from this, but I also really like "Detonation Boulevard" and "Vision Thing" too. Also, "Doctor Jeep" has a great repetitive driving beat, and is great for, well, driving. I also enjoy the two slower tracks "Something Fast", and the great closer "I Was Wrong". Actually let me say that I really love every song besides "When You Don't See Me", which is still ok. Four of these eight tracks made it onto their "Greatest Hits" album, though in different forms. Overall, I call it a strong, yet 3rd place finish to their three proper albums.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Floodland, but still worth listening to.
Being a long-time Sisters of Mercy fan, I decided to purchase this recording despite the waves of negative reviews that have flooded the band ever since it's release. Most of them claimed frontman Andrew Eldritch sold out the band's original darkwave sound for more of a glam/power rock approach which is somewhat true because most of the tracks on this album sound awfully similar to something Motley Crue or Poison would put out. Eldritch has now hired a full-time band for the recording of this album (with former Gun Club member Patricia Morrison on backing vocals, she was also on the band's previous release...."Floodland") including two guitarists, a bass player, and a drummer which meant he no longer had need for the band's long time drum machine....Doktor Avalanche (how odd to give a piece of equipment a name, hmmm....). And yes, the Sisters did receive a lot of mainstream attention when it first hit store shelves all over the world 14 years ago, but attention from the media and changing musical styles doesn't necessarily signal selling out. Sure, this album was a drastic change from their previous releases "Floodland" and their debut "First and Last and Always" but it doesn't lack the potential for it to be a good album. In a way, I'm pleased with the change in style, a band can only keep up with their original sound for so long before it becomes boring and repetitious. Besides, it was the 90's when this album was recorded, their 80's retro sound would have been passed off as out of date and uncreative seeing as how grunge and alternative rock were making their comebacks and synthpop was going flying out the window. The Sisters started experimenting with hard rock music and the resulting album was dubbed "Vision Thing"....a tiring yet still enjoyable release with hit singles such as the title track and "Detonation Boulevard" which became instant hits amongst clubs and received quite a bit of radio airplay, especially for a band that wasn't well known prior to this recording. The album gets a bit boring and tiresome after the first five as there is really no change in tempo in most of the songs which really makes it bearable for only a couple of listens. First time listeners of this band will enjoy this album because of it's catchy rhythms and simplistic song structures. But if you're a long-time Sisters fans such as I, you will tire of this album quickly and might want to pop in one of their better albums into your CD player such as their crowning acheivement and in my opinion, the best goth album the 80's has to offer...."Floodland." Overall, this is a good album, but only die-hard Sisters fans will enjoy what this release has to offer and fans of more gloomy, Depeche Mode-style, synth-based goth music would enjoy previous Sisters recordings such as like I previously mentioned "Floodland" or "Fist and Last and Always." ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A beautiful knife to the heart
After recovering from the buzzsaw guitar wash of "Sweet Heart Dealer" we get nearly two years later this surprise of an album from these LA darlings. Yes, the spectre of MBV does loom over the guitar work but the sound is cleaner (though still raw in its urgency) thereby revealing the melodic flow. The oversll production reveals the bass to hold the center of songs so that thte guitars can wash over one another instead of coalescing into a dissonant buzz. They hum instead of roaring. And the songs? Still littered with moments of disappointment, bleak and stark relationships and hopelessness but swirling around an amalgam of sound that's part Cure, MBV, Jack Off Jill, Joy Division and Jesus and Mary Chain. Best moments are City Noise, Bummer (neat chorus and hook), Manorexic, Stapled to the Mattress and the title tune. This is music that will rip your soul from its blood soaked foundations and having you thank them for it.

5-0 out of 5 stars the mix tape in your heart....
First off, it IS different from Jack Off Jill... don't purchase this CD expecting it to be a duplicate of Jack Off Jill. This CD shows growth in both voice and music depth. The tracks can go from bouncy and bubbly to solemn and somber, but flow smoothly and creates balance. I can't say I love one band over the other because they are two completely different sounds. All I can say is that I LOVE So Long, Scarecrow and that I recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind change.

5-0 out of 5 stars Scarling surpasses Jack Off Jill
This proves that Scarling is an original and creative band, far surpassing Jack Off Jill. All JOJ fans can be sure, that Scarling is no JOJ reborn, but is it's own band, inovative and brain-tickling. What a refreshing break from the norm!

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Album of 2004?
I have always thought that Skinny Puppy were one of the most innovative bands producing music, despite the fact they were never capable of writing a truly catchy hook. Finally, they have proven me wrong. Without sacrificing their distinct sound, Skinny Puppy has taken the next step in their long evolution as a unique musical outfit. Easily the best thing they've recorded since the unexpected death of Duane Goettel, The Greater Wrong of the Right is a surprisingly strong return for Nivek and Kevin.
5-0 out of 5 stars Industrial Meets IDM
I really enjoy the sounds of Industrial music.I have SP's complete catalog and really dig all of their stuff. It's great to know they're still out there doing music as SP again. This disk combines elements of Ohgr, with Download, and a guest artist by the name of Otto Von Schirach.Schirach adds some really cool elements to some songs on here like the end of Ghostman and my favorite track, Goneja(You can listen to these entire songs on the SkinnyPuppy Myspace account btw).As a fan of Aphex Twin I really liked these touches and it's nice to know that SP are adding elements such as this to their music to further evolve their sound.I hope that Otto becomes a permanent member.I've heard he will be back on the next album.I actually think these two tracks even outdo some of Aphex Twin's later work on his Chosen Lords disk and is definitely better than Druqks.I'd love to see a collaboration between RDJ and SP.That would be interestng. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars What Do You KNOW?
Let's put this in proper perspective, people. This sure isn't a 5 star release. Some of the ideas are fantastic and the lyrics are certainly intriguing. But what dates ( and ultimately flaws ) this collection is the super thin sound and production, and the stiff programming and instrumentation. Several bracing moments aside, this is nothing more or less than mid-Eighties synth-based industrial influenced rock with super-flanged hip hop-ish beats. As with Ministry and Nine Inch Nails, untilreal drums and guitars were integrated into their music, KMFDM were obviously finding their footing on this, their debut, and as such, "What Do You Know, Deutschland?" is really only for the truly rabid KMFDM fan interested in a history lesson of their favorite band.

Old and new fans alike owe it to themselves to pick this up. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Anyone conscious during the early '90s is probably already familiar with anti-anthems like "Rough Sex," "Let's Get High," and "I Must Increase My Bust," Lords of Acid singles that combined the rough sounds of '80s Belgian new beat with England's emerging rave scene and added enough nasty thoughts to make Larry Flynt blush scarlet. But for those who were left out, here's a synopsis: Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love This CD!
Ok, so I was in High School when this came out... and I LOVED it.I lost the tape somewhere along the way and always wondered in the back of my mind "What the heck is the name of that group that sings about sex"?Thank goodness for the browse styles option here on Amazon because it helped me find this album again.
5-0 out of 5 stars Some of the greatest f__k music ever
This album has served as a soundtrack for some of the HOTTEST sex I have EVER had. If you're looking for a superb mood setter for your next group sex orgy this is a must-play. Though it came out many years ago, it still pumps out lusty, sexy, nasty groovy-ness without fail. Pick this up and let it work its power on you and yours

5-0 out of 5 stars Lust... A Very Sexual CD
Well though the sexual noises seem very noticeably fake indeed this CD is pretty good... I think it's mainly made for people who are busy getting busy most of the time and the CD would work to play while doing so... since it sings about sex most of the time.... song 10 is my personal favorite.... ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome
You can't make a HIM greatest hits cause all of their songs rock, but this cd is good for people who haven't listened to HIM before.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Epitome of Goth Romance
Love, death, and more love. HIM is flawless in this collection. This CD encompasses the epitome of Goth romance. I have two copies. One for my car and one for home. It's extremely difficult to pick a favorite track or two but if I must...they would be "Join Me" and the amazing cover of Chris Isaac's "Wicked Game". The lyrics to this whole collection are simultaneously creative, beautiful, and dark. The music passionate and crisp. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates the pleasure and pain of both love and death.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Best Band Ever" Yo!
The best thing about HIM is that not only do they kick ass in the studio, their live performances kick even more ass! And Love Said No, has some of their best songs ever, but there are truely soooo many more. If you haven't heard a HIM song yet I stongly urge you to. Lead singer Ville Valo is an incredible ar
