5-0 out of 5 stars Whee! Down the spiral again!
This was a great CD before, and if you didn't own it in 1994 [I was born that year], then you should get the DX edition
5-0 out of 5 stars GoingDown The Spiral Again.........
Trent reznor suped up his re-releasing of one of the most acclaimed albums of the 90s "The Downward Spiral" with some cool packaging and an extra CD full of demos, B sides, and non-album songs. Not only do you get a great album, but another great album with it. It contains a demo version of "Reptile" entitled liar. Different versions of "Closer" and "Hurt". I have only listend to disc two a handfull of times. The first Cd "The Downward Spiral" is an amazing piece of work. If you dont have The Downward spiral I suggest you get this special addition but If you already have it dont bother getting it for the 2nd disc unless you wanna spend close to 30 dollars. Lets get back to the album people. The individual ratings:
5-0 out of 5 stars classic 90's album
Nine inch nails' second album called the downward spiral is a masterpiece, because of many reasons. First the music is very unique, and at the same time strange. It is very electronic, and mixed with industrial rock. Now, I'm gonna go through the songs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't know what brought me back to Deep, but here I am...
"While young girls fangs and crystal wrists / wait patiently for me to twist / I look away to distant rains / to waterfalls and honey days / and boys in black and blue-rinse eyes / gaze whistly at my slender thighs" ... Wow. Clearly, this song, as well as the entire record, has aged rather well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Deeply dramatic!
"Deep" finds Peter Murphy coming into his won as a solo artist, having shaken off the short-lived Dali's Car and working out the kinks on this two previous solo recordings. The previous "Love Hysteria" (1988) gave a little taste of what he would unleash on "Deep" which was warmly received by an appreciative and receptive audience.Murphy learned from the shortcomings of his two prior releases and wisely multi-tracks his vocals to add greater depth and impact to them. His backing band, the One Hundred Men, is arguably his best since his Bauhaus days, giving "Deep" a fuller, livelier pulse. The tracks are some of Murphy's best, especially coming on the heels of the acclaimed "Love Hysteria."
5-0 out of 5 stars Some of the best conteporary music ever produced.
One of the best aspects of Deep is the mix itself. I'm guessing that there was some serious time spent on mixing and mastering these songs by some obviously gifted audio engineers. Peter Murphy laid the ground work with songs that are truely unlike any other. I challenge anyone to compare the sound of this music with any other sound previously written in terms of similarity. You simply cannot. Weather you like the sound is another issue. I feel that this album is probably most appriciated by other musicians. "Cuts You Up" is indeed the catchiest tune of the lot and the one to most likley draw the interest of the masses. "Cuts You Up" however is like an appitizer before a 7 course meal. The other songs are more complex in their direction and style but all are individual pieces. You will not find one story being told in one style on this CD. Peter definatly "mixes it up". There are only two types of people that will not rate this CD at 4 or 5 stars. Those that simply do not like Peter Murphy's "sound" in general, and those with bad taste in contemporary music (post 1977). If you have never listended to this CD and you love melodic conteporary music to the absolute deepest bone in your body then without a doubt buy it. Give each song 10 listens all the way threw. If at the end your not in love, sell the CD and buy Ashley Simpsons new "piece" of work. It should be right up our alley. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars INDUSTRIAL AND CONCEPT MASTERPIECE!
I have been a fan of NIN since 1990, and although they have a rather sparse collection of major works (4 LPs and 2 EPs), The Downward Spiral is by FAR the closest thing to perfection that any work of art can ever aspire to.From the opening words of "Mr. Self Destruct" to the final verse of "Hurt", one's mind and soul are taken for a non-stop emotional rollercoaster, albeit a downward one.Even today with sensibilities that have become so jaded, this album will make an impression on ANY enlightened, intelligent mind.

5-0 out of 5 stars Baloney is what I say
I played this very album in my computer many times.Just because your computer is garbage doesn't mean this album deserves one star.It is a foray into emotional turmoil that everyone but the most sheltered mommy's boy has gone through.

1-0 out of 5 stars This version will not operate on computers... No using with MP3!!
Will not run on my computer... love the content however I keep my music on my hard drive and was looking forward to working out with this album on my MP3.I will be demanding a refund!DO NOT BUY if you have a MP3 supported car stereo, if you plan on playing at your computer.. 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome CD!
I was fortunate enough to have encountered the Cruxshadows when they were playing in Atlanta, so my first experience with their music was first hand, and I was completely blown away. The energy level was through the roof.
5-0 out of 5 stars Finally!
Awesome that this talented band is getting the national recognition they deserve. This is a great dance track and bodes well for the upcoming album, Dreamcypher, in January. And, unlike many singles, this includes extra "b-side" songs like they used to do.Well worth the price!

5-0 out of 5 stars My first taste of Numan.
As the title says, this album was my first Gary Numan album, at the time I thought of it as sort of a risk, I buy alot of stuff that comes out on the Metro label so I decided to try it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Vintage Numan, updated
I've thought his last three records were all superb, and this one is even better in my opinion. In fact, it's taken a place in my top 5 of his amazing catalog.
5-0 out of 5 stars A HUGE and wonderful sound
I've been a fan of Gary's since the 70's although I'll have to admit, I haven't had a chance to listen to every CD he's done since then.I have a few of the anthologies. The Pleasure Principle is downright one of my all time favorite albums and the next few single albums that I bought after that were always disappointing to me in comparison.Until, that is, I caught Gary's live show in Solana Beach this week (sorry if you missed it folks, I think it was the last U.S. stop on the tour.) I truly expected not to like anything that wasn't old. What a great surprise to find out I love his new songs! Both on stage and on CD, the sound is just HUGE -- with incredible contrasts from small and quiet to an absolute tidal wave of sound.I'm talking Rage Against the Machine big.Or some of the best of Nine Inch Nails. But best of all it has that big sound plus Gary's haunting vocals and the type of soaring synthesizer hooks only Gary can do that rise above the wall of sound and evoke the best of Pleasure Principle.(Perhaps it's an expression of his love of flying...)While it doesn't necessarily surpass Pleasure Principle in my book, I think it is awesome and is a worthy sibling of that landmark album.Rock on Gary! This one is Grammy-worthy in my book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty solid...
I'm not a huge Covenant fan, but after seeing them live just the other night, I'm a couple of notches closer. And now I feel the need to write a review.
5-0 out of 5 stars Stunning
Wow, I was amazed when I came here and saw all the negative reviews. While I appreciate everyone's entitled to their own opinion, I find it difficult to imagine how anyone who appreciates this style of music could consider it a sub 4 star album. Personally, I was blown away by it's clean synth lines and its beautiful sonic textures, I only own 2 other Covenant albums though I have other works by bands such as VNV, APB and Assemblage 23 and I feel compelled to say that is easily one of the, if not the, most beautiful album in the "genre" I have heard. ( Appreciating the folly of tying this in to any particular genre ).
5-0 out of 5 stars Covenant is once again shaping the future of techno
This album like all Covenant albums is cutting edge and pushing the limits of techno to a new level.Skyshaper has newer and smoother beats and rhythms then ever before. There is nothing else out there right now that keeps the pace with non stop quality songs. This album is newer and better.Unless you're stuck in the past and looking to relive older stuff you're going to LOVE Skyshaper.Once you put the CD in you will be sucked into the newest world of techno from Covenant called Skyshaper. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Overall an excellent album
Machine Gun Etiquette and Damned Damned Damned are the two most actual "punk" albums that the Damned have and they are both excellent. They have much quicker paced songs, and more aggressive (if the Damned could ever be characterized this way!) and raw.The one thing I always laugh about on Machine Gun Etiquette is that the two worst songs they ever made are both on this otherwise great album- Ballroom Blitz and White Rabbit (interestingly, both are covers of previously flawless songs! Why they covered these and made them so horrible is beyond me!)But if you're a Damned fan or want to expand your original punk collection this is a good one to get.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Damned with all guns blazing! Very Essential
Though ive always been a fan- i tended to pay more attention to the Jam and the clash (wellers songwriting and the clashs london calling and sandinista were both untouchable). Recently ive been going thru the damneds first few albums up to the black album. All great- but MGT is the one you must have if you have no other. THeres the punk energy- sensibles love of sixties garage and pyschedelia- a pop sense combined with total abandon and humor-something the damned made unique.Plus vanians vocals are just too cool for words. the guitar - the drumming- well everyone is in top form. Every track is great- (the original 12 track cdwith the four bonus)THe new remaster is nice but try to track down the original us version with only the four bonus tracks including rabid and white rabbit cover. The new 25th remaster is a little long and loses steam with collector only bsides and alternate takes. From the class of 77 this is among the royality of never mind the bollocks-all mod cons- and the already mentioned clash classics.(Released years Later ofcourse)the Damned were the first british "punk" band to chart and really are among the top three or four bands who broke free from punk. This album is a pop/punk/rock whatever masterstroke and is sorely needed in your collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best punk albums ever
After the disappointment of Music for Pleasure, The Damned released Machine Gun Etiquette, thought of as their 'classic', and the only one that the critics ever pay any attention to.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good,but the sequel's better
This is a good horror movie score.It fits the movie,and is worth a listen.But Marco Beltrami's "Underworld:Evolution"
5-0 out of 5 stars Good, listenable soundtrack
Though many people will not have seen Underworld, the soundtrack is a good solid soundtrack for those who collect movie soundtracks. Track 6 (Red Tape) is an excellent example of the trailer sound being included into the soundtrack after the film release (and since I have never heard of Agent Provocateur ever again, I can only assume that this was a onetime band put together for the film's production). If you HAVE seen the film, the soundtrack will bring back excellent memories and the sequencing of the tracks is very close to the sequence of the film. All in all, a good, solid collection of music from an average film.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice soundtrack
I really enjoyed this soundtrack. My favorite track is Eternity and a Day.Starts with delicate piano and crescendos into big sounding orchestra or maybe it's synthisizer or whatever but very nice. This is the scene after Selene killed Victor and it starts playing as she stands facing Michael and the other Lycans retreat. It represents this powerful moment of the two species comming together and not what it once seemed.I also enjoyed how the song Red Tape played throughout the trailers of this movie was included on the soundtrack. So many previews will have great music then nowhere on film. Now there are even companies that is what they do only provide short clips specifically for previews and really really stinks.

4-0 out of 5 stars In the Mean Time
This band rocks. If you like Pillar or Skillet this has a simular sound.Only difference is it has a female singer. This can also be compared to Benjamin Gate with more of an edge.Only 4 stars because only a few really rocky songs that I like.Gretchen has upside potential.Hopefully they continue releasing cds.If they keep being produced by Travis Wyrick they can't go wrong. All they need is to tour with a couple larger name bands to get their name out.I'd be about the only one at the show to see them.

Static-X and their 1999 debut, Read more

Reviews (163)

4-0 out of 5 stars A fairly good & definitely underrated album
Though the same basic qualities and ingredients which helped define Static-X's debut, 1999's "Wisconsin Death Trip," are brought back for this, their sophomore album, it's unfounded and confusing to claim "Machine" is simply a rehash. Though not exactly an innovative musical departure or creative step forward for the band, anybody with ears should be able to tell you (from listening to just the first thirty-seconds of this disc) that Static-X turbo-charged their sound at least three-fold. "WDT" sounded influenced equally by heavy and industrial metal, and sounded in the same league as classic Ministry and White Zombie. "Machine," on the other hand, draws influence only from heavy metal and...uh...heavier metal. The result is a record which is unashamed to rock hard and pack an immense punch.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not quite as good as Wisconsin Death Trip, but very enjoyable. (4.5 stars)
I really liked Wisconsin Death Trip, so when Wayne and the boys released "Machine" 2 years later I was all over it. I wasnt disappointed, but it was missing something...
1-0 out of 5 stars This album makes me wet my pants full of man jam!
That's because it's so godly not to mention heavy!I mean, if you're looking for machine-gun double bass, dual, shredding guitars, twisted solos and growls and screams that make your hair stand on end, this is the band to listen to!From the first few notes you can definitely tell they know how to play their instruments, write clever, catchy songs and sing like the Dark Lord himself!Oops! After just thinking about this music I have to change my pants again!

5-0 out of 5 stars some hits, some of Peter's fave's
As far as greatest hits albums, this one delivers just because Peter's hits are just masterful. If I was going to be nitpicky, I'd complain that this compilation does not capture all of his best work, but the collection clearly captures some of Peter's own favorites -- such as 'Deep Ocean Vast Sea', 'Dragnet Drag' and 'Jemal'. While all good songs, they probably mean more to Peter than some of his most devout fans. I would have liked to have seen 'Marlene Dietrich's Favorite Poem', 'Blind Sublime', or 'Crystal Wrists' myself.
5-0 out of 5 stars Don't get me wrong!
Some supposed fans did not buy the album for sure as they did not see "All night long" song on the album??It is on mine (track 11) and was the major reason why I have bought it.This song is really awsome with french speaking in it (done like an extract of Zelda game). Also, there is not 5 but 4 songs from "Cascade" album.5-0 out of 5 stars A great voice
Since I hear for the first time "All night long", in a brazilian radio, in the 80's, I've never been the same to hear music. He surprises anyone at every time, in every song, with his powerful voice, and his gothic atmosphere. Yes, atmospheric, this is the best definition to a singer that creates with real feeling, making something that is really deep, and at the same time, cool. It's impossible to hear "Subway" and don't hear it again and again...passing the tracks, "I'll Fall With You Knife" is there, beatiful...and so many other songs, all beatiful. So,I think that "Wild Birds" is a good choice. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars murder mayhem hurt her hate him
Sometimes people look into this world and wonder wow how great and pleasent it is.............. and then there is Otep Shamaya. With music as her weapon otep obliterates the norm of knowledge. Finding grounds between the mind of Manson and the voice of Corpsegrinder and with the help of Joey Jordison (drums) on a few tracks. This album is basically a blend of nu metal, strange atmospheric sounds together with a suicidal voice of this world. If you want something that's heavy, if you want something that's disturbing, if you want something that straight up sounds like nothing you've ever heard before buy this album...... you won't be displeased.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not for the extremely sensitive
Ok first off i would say that Otep is one of the most brutal bands with a female vocalist, the theme's to there songs can be very brutal and/or sensitive, those who don't like getting scared or are very sensitive i'd stay away from this cd, because i know someone who had a PTSD panic attack from listening to the first track Requiem....I myself love her music, and the intensity is empowering, lol, and im just writing this review for the tracks that i like.
2-0 out of 5 stars kind of ok.............but only kind of
Well, I bought this after hearing Sevas Tra and liking it (Well, liking only half of it, the rest was not really too good, but what i liked motivated me on buying it) so I went ahead and bought this one, when I bought sevas tra, without hearing it on hope it being just as good or better than S.T. So I put into my CD player and heard the opening track and was really disapointed with how it's nothing but a 2:40 intro to Warhead. Warhead came on and I thought it was great but I started hearing the rest of the album, and relized how it was mostly spoken word and overused emo type lyrics. Warhead was great, hooks and splinters and sepsis were intresting listens as well, but the rest of the album makes me want to stray away from the band other than wanting to hold the band up as some kind of revolutionary band that will change the world, as I see the band trying to attempt. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Music for People Like Me
Many people prefer VAST's debut album to Music for People, but I personally found a much more profound connection to this album than the last. I found it to be more fluid and extremely emotional. It never let me down for a moment. Once again, Crosby's voice carries a longing, lost-within-a-maze feeling, and the intrumental-orchestral mix is solid and never disjointed. His feelings of desperation are put out more subtly but just as powerfully as in the first album.
5-0 out of 5 stars Music for People who get it
This has been the latest VAST purchase i've had. After hearing VAST and Nude all the way through and loving that, Music for People was hard to find in stores. After getting it from Amazon, I had to really listen through it and listen again to adjust to the tone of the album. Anyone will really, really enjoy this album like I did. It is fairly simplistic, but has much of a rocking, groove side to it. While it's hard to really compare it with Vast's first album, or even rank it above that, it is definitely one to own, and probably up there with being one of the best of VAST. Very memorable album and a fun one to listen to every couple of days.

3-0 out of 5 stars What happened?
While I wouldn't say this CD "sucks",,, I would say that its quite a step down compared to the debut. This album seems more or less like it should have came before the debut.

4-0 out of 5 stars Electronica Zombie
The gathering of three Industrial Rock powerhouses - Rob Zombie, Rammstein & Charlie Clouser (from NIN fame) - might produce what? More Industrial Rock?
5-0 out of 5 stars Best remix album I've heard
Charlie Clouser of NIN fame along with Rammstein went to town with Rob's Hellbilly Delux, and what came out IMO is an improvment on the original albums songs, very heavy and catchy. Standout tracks are the Dragula remix (of coarse), How to Make a Monster, and the LDG remix. If you're a fan of industrial-dance music like KMFDM you'll love this album. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Worth hearing, but it's nothing special
"Matter + Form" has it's moments, but it lacks the catchiness that I like in electro. Some of the songs stand out more than others. The tracks that don't stand out are basically boring and repetitive techno that lacks variety. The singer's voice is great, the programming is genuis at points, but they lack the cathy melodic chrouses that make electro so great. It's a cool album at first, but it's nothing that I can spin over and over again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very underrated
First off sure there is a few songs on this CD that is like others, but the 5 songs that i really like on this CD, are well worth giving this CD 5 stars for, among my favorite on this CD would have to be Arena, the melody is so emotional, then there's Endless Skies, abit too short but the melody is intensely emotive, and the lyrics are outstanding, so this is NOT generic EBM.

3-0 out of 5 stars Generic Euro-trance anyone?
I bought this album whilst browsing for new industrial music. I didn't know anything about the band so thought I'd give them a listen, and I really don't know what to say. Firstly, this just doesn't have the hard-edged attitude that a good industrial album would. A couple of the tracks are truly excellent, saving the album from a worse score, but the rest are simply non-descript space fillers as far as I'm concerned. Give me distorted vocals and screaming basslines but please, leave the horns and uplifting lightweight dance music where it belongs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for "newbies" or casual fans!
Upon first glance, this is what it is: a greatest hits compilation. Okay, so "serious" Sisters fans can likely pass on by, right? Wrong! Spend a moment with me and I'll address what you get here.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Slight Case of Overbombing
Andrew Eldrige is amazing and this band coming from Leeds England holds a place in music history and a place in my heart. His voice unerves me and echos with prolific lyrics that are insightful and intelligent. The songs combined elements of rock n roll, punk, and industrial. The early synthesizer music takes a new and original position with songs about emotion and society.

Filter's third album was inspired by a cross-country trip that imbued lead singer Rich Patrick with patriotism and appreciation for both the diversity and sense of freedom he found out on the road. While the recording is purported to be a celebration of that diversity, most of the record hasn't strayed much from the alt-metal template that Filter cut their teeth on back with their 1995 Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars About as dynamic as a coffee filter
I bought this CD as sort of a blind buy off Dell's Musicmatch service last year. I'd heard "Where Do We Go From Here" back when it was getting regular airplay, and parts of some songs sounded good, so I bought the whole CD. I can't say this was the best idea.
