5-0 out of 5 stars Deeply dark Eighties
While not an official Bauhaus album, this collection, with Volume 2, is the very best way to appreciate the musicianship and influence of what was one of the greatest early 80s post-punk bands.Yes, I would recommend this over In a Flat Field, but only because of the inclusion of the single "Bela Lugosi's Dead," and the fact that this cd is comprised of the best songs from the afore mentioned album, plus a few from their second: Mask.Of course, for compelete-ists like me, the full albums are definitely worth buying, but for the more casual listener this (AND the second volume) will supply enough of an experience to enthrall and educate, therefore making itself an essential addition to any music library."Dark Entries,""Double Dare" and "Mask" are some very, very great highlights in a compliation full of highlights. If you love this stuff, then by all means get the full albums. If Love is too strong a word for you, this should still be a highly enjoyable cd.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fine Cd
Bought this a few weeks back but I was slightly disapointed when I realized that most of the songs on this album were taken from Swing The Heartache, The BBC Sessions...but honestly, I didn't mind much because the additonal songs that were inculded with it were one's that I hadn't heard yet (My collection of Bauhaus is depressingly small) so I feel that it was still worth it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great Music, Redundant Release
The review has nothing to do with the actual music, which is great. Rather, it's the "best of" collection status. It's really a redundant waste. Just buy In the Flat Fields and The Mask, and you have all that's on this "Volume 1" and more. Maybe at the time, they weren't available on CD, but they are now. GET THE COOL ORIGINALS! ... Editorial Review

A genre-bending sonic onslaught, this disc is not for the faint-hearted. Static-X skillfully blend angry staccato guitar, dark metallic noise, and mutating synthesizer washes to construct an ominous (though occasionally humorous) wall of sound. Lead vocalist Wayne Static's high-energy delivery alternates from whisper to roar on tracks such as "Bled for Days" and "I Am," and he often uses his voice as a potent rhythmic sound effect, as on "Push It" and "Sweat of the Bud." Tony Campos's distorted bass riffs and drummer Ken Jay's confident beats add a human feel to the mechanical rhythms, adroitly creating the tight grooves of "Otsegolation" and "Fix," as well as the rigid swing in "Stem." Wayne Static and Koichi Fukuda skillfully combine guitars and keyboards on "The Trance Is the Motion" to produce crashing waves of sound, while their programming on "December" results in a more subdued piece to close the album. 5-0 out of 5 stars Masterfulnessence
This is one of the best CD's I own. It never gets old no matter how many times I listen to it.I am not that big of a fan of hard music but Wayne is incomparable and their music just kicks ass.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Brutal Masterpiece
Wayne Static has more in his arsonal than really really bad hair...he has an insane scream coupled with one kick @$$ band that knows what they're doing and knows how to do it.With their debut, Wayne, Koichi, Tony and Ken serve up some of the most brutal offerings the industrial metal crowd has to offer. With the opening "PUSH IT" blasting onto radios across the land we were all given a taste of the phenom. that is Static-X..."I'M WITH STUPID" continued the brutal bliss with chanting chorus lines of "he's a loser" coupled with barking doors and some old woman talking about a shovel, but it's "BLED FOR DAYS" that is the best, heaviest and most amazing piece of brutality that this band has ever served up.The remainder of the CD is great, sporting killer songs like "LOVE DUMP" with crazy lines about someones @$$ smelling like a rose, and "FIX" which is just so freaking awsome. There are some low slumps like "OSTEGOLATION" but songs like "I AM" and the bone crushing title track "WISCONSIN DEATH TRIP" make up for it.This is the best CD this band has done, and even though their following CD's were not terrible they will never reach the bar they've set so high for themselves. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars After almost 2 decades still one of the best
The Cult is the best under appreciated band in history. They date back to 1982 where they were known as The Southern Death Cult.Unknown to most The Cult is the first Alternative Rock Grundge band.During the Big hair rock days they were so different that they had no category, they were to dark for rock, to heavy for pop and too slow for punk.
5-0 out of 5 stars SONIC TEMPLE
I HAVE HUNTED FOR CDS BY THE CULT EVERY WERE
5-0 out of 5 stars After Goth, music begins.....
Well, it certainly seems like the guitar player got tired of playing the semi-goth tunes of "Love" and "Electric", sat down one day and finally listened to a Led Zeppelin CD some friend gave him. This is an awesome project. This is real hard rock in the Zep tradition. If you are not a goth this is the recording of The Cult you are looking for.Power, pure power.I love early Cult, but this is something else, this is "sonic maturity"."Ceremony" is also very good, but not as coherent as "Electric" or "Sonic Temple".And I'm a goth......but I love great music....... ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Best
I have for a long time considered this Sisters of Mercy to be best. I never tire of listening to it. If anyone needs an intro to the Sisters then try this one! It is amazing!

5-0 out of 5 stars My Personal Favorite
I bought FALAA after I had bought Floodland, and I was suprised when the former was so noticeably different from the latter. This is, in my opinion, the Sisters of Mercy at the top of their form; the album is an absolute treat.
3-0 out of 5 stars Better then than now
When this album came out in the US in 1985, it seemed really interesting to me.The mood...Andrew Eldritch keeps the accelerator going up and down, always feels like the band has a terrific pent-up energy that is never released.Perfect innovation in a time when rock music was going either to simple basics or to wretched excess. This is dark without drone. It was appealing to a college student who didn't want any more sappy love music or "Slow Ride."I cannot highlight one song over another; the theme is consistent.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars buy this cd!
When i first heard this CD i hated it. i had heard about it from several people and decided to buy it. i actually bought the box set that has all three Aria cd's. As i checked this cd out, the woman ringing me up said this was themost beautiful thing she'd ever heard and told me i'd love it. i told her i was more of a metal fan. Here i was, a fan of Metallica and Danzig and Tool, buying opera!? i did like the programming on this cd. the drum beats are clean and accompany the music just right; not too loud and not too quiet. the vocals, which at first i didn't like, are really endearing and beautiful. Rebecca Luker sings many of the songs here. i enjoyed this cdmore and more with each listen. I like the fact that the lyrics were translated in the booklet so i could understand the words. Bottom line: this is an excellent CD! i would recommend this to anyone. give it a few listens and let it take you. Ignore what you think you know about opera and let his music enter you and enchant you and speak to you. your heart and soul will thank you. let the vocals of Rebecca Luker wash over you and show you the trueemotional range of the human voice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible music from opera's master composers
If I could give this CD 10 stars, I would certainly do so. Five stars is not sufficient to describe this wonderful work of art. I am an opera fan but I am certainly not offended by these contemporary arrangements which brings these wonderful works to a modern audience.
1-0 out of 5 stars Attn. Opera lovers
This is just a little warning to fellow operatic fans out there, I glanced over the back of this cd at the bookstore and thought these were actually real versions of these pieces, and thought "Huzzah! A multiple disc set of opera with all kinds of cool stuff on it!" but then I listened to the first couple tracks and realized Great Brunnhilde! This is one of them new-fangled cross-over deals.I personally wish people wouldn't do that, it's so irritating, but if they want to I guess no one can stop them (although I haven't really made a concerted effort yet...).Anyway, if opera's your thing, this probably isn't. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Get lost in the Vortex
I really liked this album, while some of the songs are remixed more than once they're still able to keep a semblance of uniqueness. Then there are the little gems added to the mix "The Lunatics Have Taken Over The Asylum" and "Feed Me to the Lions" are really fun songs that quickly moved their way into my top 10 lists.
5-0 out of 5 stars What an awesome find!
You will all think I'm crazy, but I was looking for new music one day at work, came across Collide because it was "similar" to other music I like, and bought it without even hearing it! I wasn't somewhere that I could listen to the samples, so I trusted other user reviews, and couldn't be more pleased. This CD has become a staple in my collection, and frankly, hasn't left my CD changer yet! My boyfriend even added it to his iPod. My personal favorite is "The Lunatics...", don't ask me why. I always play it on my way to the gym...and sometimes before work...perhaps it's something Freudian. :)
5-0 out of 5 stars remixed to perfection
before picking up this two-disc package, i was not familiar with the works of Collide. i bought this item on a whim, and am very glad i did. the variety of style approach is refreshing, you really don't hear the same song twice, though there are a few mixes of a few songs. these are good cds to put in on a trip or chill at the house, and i've had the album for a few weeks now and am not tired of it. enjoy the haunting effects of a great band rearranged by great artistic minds. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars MUSICAL PHENOMONA
This is probably among the most best band of today, or at LEAST lyrically, they are miles ahead of many musicians today, Standing is extremely emotive, beautiful, the lyrics are great throughout this whole CD, heck all the melody on this cd, along with his voice, is all outstanding, it's sad that this cd or Futureperfect isn't on the Rolling Stones 500 greatest cd's of all time, especailly considering some of the cd's they have on it that don't even compare with VNV

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome.
At some point in 2005, someone recommended that I give VNV Nation a listen and suggested that I find "Matter + Form" first. I agreed and was satisfactorily impressed, but I had the nagging feeling that there was something more to this group than what that album had let onto. I dug a little deeper and discovered "Empires," and rather than being mildly content with my find, I was blown away. "Empires" was everything I had wanted from an electronic music album but had previously been unable to find.
5-0 out of 5 stars Musical Masterpiece
Really, I only wanted to add a review to argue a previous reviewers 1 star rating.Especially concerning lyrics/vocal style.

Only", the second single from "With Teeth", has something in common with its predecessor-- its of limited value. I picked it up and was pretty disappointed.
4-0 out of 5 stars Cool song
This song is pretty catchy, but the remixes are pretty bad, the only change in the Love is not enough, is that there is live drums. Instead of buying this, buy the whole cd, unless you're an extreme NIN collector

5-0 out of 5 stars there is no you there is ONLY me
I rather enjoy the new and improved sounds of Nine Inch Nails. This is the catchiest Nails song since....The Hand that Feeds. The beat is hard to erase.the words are easy to remember, the song is greatly admired. The use of in-studio real drums rather than the industrial drum machine beats as days of old. more calmer Nails than pre-Fragile material, a change indeed but nonetheless, masterpiece. The video is very interesting, in an office like setting, very non-ninesque. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, but still good.
The Head on the Door breaks away from The Cures previous traditon of releasing dark and goth like albums. This album is much more mainstream and poppy then what I had come to expect from the cure. It is more inline with Three Imaginary Boys then Seventeen Seconds or Pornograpy. Highlights of the album include Kyoto Song, Push, and A Night like this.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Cure Album! Bar none.
When this album first came out, it was a total revelation. I had been a casual fan for a few years, but never rabid. This record changed that.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not just the best Cure, an all-time great by any band
There isn't much point in me reiterating what just about every other review here says.Into the late '80s, I'd heard and owned every Cure album at one point or another.Today, I own one and only one Cure album, and this is it.I even went out of my way to grab a copy on vinyl.

Ritchie and Candy struck gold again with this cd,a great blend of the old with the new.

4-0 out of 5 stars For what it is, it's pretty good
This is the first of the Blackmore's Night records I have listened to, but I know more or less everything Blackmore and the various incarnations of Deep Purple, Rainbow and earlier stuff he did. Blackmore is still a fine guitar player, and the Perfect Strangers style is here again, but in a medievel guise. The lyrics aren't wonderful (they don't often pass the read-it-out-loud test) but the music is stunningly well-produced, the vocals are beautiful, and a couple of songs are just about perfect in every way, the Diamonds & Rust cover being the best. The great thing about Ritchie Blackmore is that he usually outclasses faster guitar players by playing just the right notes, and he does it here again. Nice. ... Read more

This was the record that definitively turned Ministry from an electro-industrial dance band into a cutting-edge metal act. With distorted vocals, pounding drum machines, and ripping guitar chords, songs like "Thieves" and "Burning Inside" merged computer technology with metallic riffology, setting the pace for dozens of second-rate computer nerds to follow. 5-0 out of 5 stars great album
This is one of the best albums from Ministry. Along with of course Psalm 69, and Houses of The Mole. For those of you wondering, I think that beautiful singing heard in the background of "Dream Song" is Bulgarian choir singing. That's probably my favorite track too. I agree with the reviewer who said it's mesmerizing. An incredible mix of electronics and Bulgarian choirs. My other favorite tracks are Burning Inside, the strange Cannibal Song, and So What. Pick up this album if you're a Ministry fan! Laters.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic
If you were not around when this first came out, you will never understand the intensity that it signified. There were hard groups, but nothing that sounded like this cd did. After The Land of Rape and Honey, which was just as great, there was something missing in the whole "industrial" scene. This filled the gap, and lost the "disco" edge and lameness that had become of the scene before and after this release. Pure class, get it no matter what.

4-0 out of 5 stars Terrible to taste, good to hear.
There are some album covers you can look at, and just know the music within is going to be hard and heavy. This is obviously one of those albums. Some may argue, but I believe more than other bands, and even more than Ministry's prior album, this is when industrial and metal came perfectly together. Sure there's a few repetitive low-points, but the majority of this album is like a punch to the face. The opener "Thieves" with it's power-drill sample sets the tone, and "Burning Inside" and "Never Believe" take it from there. The next powerhouse is "Breathe", which leads to the climax of the album "So What", which includes the choice lyrics "I only kill, to know I'm alive". These tracks aren't simply heavy, they're also well written, and basically catchy. "Test" even makes rap sound good. I recommend a proper stereo for this. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Sumptuous, soothing, sensual--the heavenly voices of the Mediaeval Baebes continue to enchant the ears with the group's fourth album. These talented Baebes (and their main composer Katharine Blake) borrow lyrical material from medieval prose and find inspiration in medieval music. While most of Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars you can't go wrong with this band
Soaring vocals, period (correct for the time) instruments, and more as you would expect from this group, but a wider range of music and tempos than is usual for one of their CDs.This Cd gives you a good overview of the styles and voices that Medieval Babes is capable of, but is *not* a consistant album, more like a sampler.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sounds of Angels and Wild Women
I really REALLY love this CD.I've been listening to the Amazon.com music clips for weeks and finally bought it.It is a gem. The music is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ravishing!!
This group is simply phenomenal, and this is the best of their amazing output. It is gorgeous, ravishing, creative, original, inventive, and a whole lot more. But it is too short. It could be twice the length and still be too short!!

3-0 out of 5 stars A Flawed Masterwork
Seventeen Seconds is rightly considered to be the real jumping off point of the trademark sound that continues up to the present(Three Imaginary Boys wasn't very indicative). So, this is a must have, being remastered and everything. And a bonus disc. Oh joy!
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This is a great addition to all Cure fan's collection. If you love the Cure and you already have this album, this collector version is perfect. If you're new to the cure and you dont have seventeen seconds already, buy this version instead of the single disk. This has lots of great tracks on it that have never been released before.^-^

4-0 out of 5 stars Good effort by The Cure
Seventeen Seconds is not the best Cure album ever but it is also not the worst. Unless you are a hardcore Cure fan I wouldn't recommend buying the Deluxe Edition. Most of the B sides and rarites are just more of the same of what you will find on the original tracks. To me this album seems like a sister album to Faith. Both have a simple yet dark(not as dark as Pornograpy) sound to them. Highlights include, Play for Today, A Forest, and Seventeen Seconds. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Groundbreaking for its time
This was probably THE most influential album in 1989.It started a huge wave of heavy industrial music that resonated throughout the 90's.The electric sound is similar to Depeche Mode, but the lyrics and subject matter are definelty darker in tone.Much like Mode's Ultra album.Definitely worth buying and listening to over and over again.

1-0 out of 5 stars I'm not angry, just disappointed
Introducing the world to Industrial music in 1988, Pretty Hate Machine set the standard for the underlying trend of pop sensibility/ depressing atmospheric sound NIN was about. However, this is NIN's first album, and it definitely shows.
5-0 out of 5 stars how can you do this to me?
pretty hate machine takes me back to those long forsaken days of my youth.sad and lonely, miserable and needy, mistaking sex for love.just when you find someone who understands you, it's over.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hard II Label - Easy II Love
Celldweller has gained alot of respect and fans since the release of this. With many of these songs heard in Movies, Video Games & Internet Radio and a MySpace page filled to the brim with loyal Klayton fans. The ironic part is this guy is from Michigan (where I happen to live) where Industrial & Techno are far from the main trend. Yet this One Man Army is easily one of the most idolized idependent artists in the state, If not the country.
5-0 out of 5 stars 4.5 Stars.Excellent album.
I was fortunate enough to get this disc a little while back, and I had no idea the version I acquired was a low bit rate, internet leak. So, about 2 months ago, I buy the album and never really do much with it, but yesterday I brought it into work and I was floored at the difference.Lesson learned:Buy your CD's, even if you get the "early" version.Or just wait for the final to drop.
5-0 out of 5 stars can't describe
This is truly an industrial masterpiece. I don't know what else to say. If you've liked Circle of Dust, Argyle Park, Level, or anything along that line, you won't be disappointed by this one. On another note, I had the opertunity to see Celldweller live, and it was honestly one of the most entrancing things I've ever witnessed, kind of like a cross between Rob Zombie and an opium den. ...
