5-0 out of 5 stars Loves It
A VAST fan since 1999, the newest cd is always my favorite and I think there's no way to top it...then the next one is even better. These songs were MP3's but the sound quality is still good. Ecstasy and Be With Me sound awesome in my car with the bass crank'd. I like the Turquoise disc best.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a great release for true Vast fans
A lot of people are recommending you skip NUDE and just buy this album. But those people must be deaf, because this album is completely different.Sure, there are songs on TURQUOISE & CRIMSON that were already released on NUDE, but people don't realize that these songs are the original MP3s.They sound a lot different than the tracks released on NUDE.Also, all of the songs that were not released on NUDE are fantastic.I was afraid that buying this album would be a mistake, but I was very pleased after just one spin. The previously released songs are different than on NUDE and there are plenty of new tracks that make it worth the buy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Refreshing and just as powerful
I've always loved VAST since I discovered the music 9 years ago. Jon Crosby's self titled album was my favorite. When "Music For People" came out I was a little disappointed because it wasn't as emotionally charged, lyrically beautiful, and musically creative as the first. Then I picked up "Turquoise and Crimson" and it revived my faith in this band's talent. Songs like "Dead Angels" and especially, "Where It Never Rains", leaves you with a deep and soulful feeling. I don't find it to be VAST's best but it's definitely worth listening to and has a different, but just as impacting, sound as the first. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I wanna hold you like a doll...
I followed the infectious scent of Just Like Heaven (the greatest pop song ever written) to this album, and found myself listening to one of the greatest records I've ever heard. A few of my favorite songs on this record are as follows:
4-0 out of 5 stars In response to SRS
"Breathe" and "A Chain Of Flowers" are available on the Join The Dots boxset.
3-0 out of 5 stars Problematic
Firstly, the CD is still missing Hey You, even though modern CD players can play 80 minute discs. Further, it's missing the songs Breathe and A Chain of Flowers, which are B-sides that should have been included since they're better than songs that made the cut like Torture, Fight, and The Perfect Girl.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Industrial Metal
I really can't say that I'm a big fan of industrial metal, but I can say that Rammstein isn't a band to pass up. Having heard Sehnsucht before this, I was a little sceptical. Sehnsucht was a okay album but it really didn't impress me much. This on the other hand did. From the first track to the last, I was in awe. It basically blew their next album (Sehnsucht) out of the water. I love the mix of some techno, industrial, and metal. Every song sounds different from thefirst to the last, which is somewhat a rarity for me. I also love the lead vocalist's singing. It's very operatic. Every song is good, though I have to say Seamann is the best. I had never heard of a industrial ballet before this and thought it sounded ridiculas when my friend told me about it. Then I listened to it. I can describe it in one word: beautiful. This is just an awesome cd.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of Rammstein's Heaviest Albums...
This is Rammstein's very first album ever released. I would consider it one of their best releases. The keyboard is much more dominant on this album than laters ones, and the guitar riffs are much harder as well. I would recommend this album for people who like Heavy Metal, Electronic, or Industrial Rock.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wollt ihr Rammstein in Flammen sehen?
First off my cd cover is different, it only shows their heads and the rest is all white. I think that cover looks better but either way it's the same cd whichever cover you get. This is their first cd and it's the most raw and fast paced album that they've made. Wollt ihr.. is their best riff ever but the song goes on about a minute too long. Asche zu Asche has a great fast paced riff but it's not as heavy as I'd like but it still rocks. Seemann is a ballad that slows down the album but it does have some cool heavy sounding guitars throw in it here and their. Things pick up again with Du riechst ... which is another fast paced fast song with a great riff and beat. Herzeleid is slower but still heavy and the singer does the lyrics a word or 2 at a time and it has a nice keyboard solo. Heirate mich has a mediocre riff but it still works very well. Das Alte Leid is the strangest song here, it doesn't sound like the rest of the songs but it's still good. Rammstein is also slow but heavy and it took me a while to like it but I do. The other songs I didn't mention are also faced paced and good. This cd also has their best guitar solo's, they have a nice warpy feel to them Yes the lyrics are in German, which give it a great sound plus the singer doesn't sound that good singing in English. So if you're a fan or like fast paced music then you should buy this cd. ... Read more

Hey, this is as good as the Nineties get. Right here. The idea thatthis EP is about Trent's backlash against the TVT label is irrelevant and probably falsified for trivia fodder. Who cares anyway, right? This is all about freeing the music demons. Trent did everything right and is still really the only one he did total justice on.
5-0 out of 5 stars FLAWLESS!!! BUY IT NOW!! NIN
THIS IS MY FAVORITE NINE INCH NAILS CD NEXT TO FRAGILE. THIS CD REALLY HELPED ME THROUGH MY DEPRESSED JOCK INVADED HELL I WENT THROUGH! IF IT WASNT FOR THIS CD AND SOME OF MANSON'S I WOULDNT BE WRITING THIS REVIEW. I SAW NIN A FEW MONTHES AGO AND THEY STILL GOT IT! TRENT SHOULDNT BE BALD OR A BODY BUILDER..ITS PRETTY GAY. OH WELL, A CLASSIC EP WORTH BUYING INSTANTLEY. ANY METAL FAN OR HUMANS WITH MINDS WILL TRULEY RESPECT THIS CD.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest CDS ever..
Wow.Thats all I can really say about this CD.My first exposure to NIN came when my friend gave me this cd and further down the spiral. At the time, I was really into punk rock, so i wansnt that interested, but i started to listen to it anyways. From start to finish (well, with a little break in between) this CD is just amazing. The hook to Wish is one of the catchiest things ive EVER heard, but it doesnt compromise how heavy the song is.When I think of NIN, I think of this CD...I know it focuses less on the industrial element of the music, the songs are just so wonderfully crafted.I love the fast drum machines in Wish and Gave Up, and how Last comes in thrashing right after the super chaotic Wish ending.Happiness in Slavery is my least favorite of the first 6 tracks (I love the interludes, the songs dont sound right without them), but it is still head and shoulders above the majority of songs I have heard. Its very interesting how to make a song heavy without the guitar being the main focus...one of the reasons I love industrial so much. The 2 secret songs are alright...The cover of Adam Ant's (Youre So) Physical is a song i skip every time, its just...boring.Suck is a great song though, although I probably prefer the live version on halo 17.Trent has really gone downhill nowadays, I heard with teeth was going to be hard like broken, man i was dissapointed...I actually sold my With Teeth. All music should sound like this. ... Especially now in 2006 I find this album even more amazing. Pick this album up if you like good music. Jon Crosby is an amazing singer and song writer. The music just moves you. It's truly great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome CD
This has to be his best work.It is unlike any music you'll hear. The only problem I have with VAST's music is that you don't hear it in the clubs or radio enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brooding Darkness Meets Rococo Enlightenment
I first heard Vast when "Free" was on mainstream radio...probably circa 1999 or so.I figured the band to be a one-hit wonder and was pleasantly surprised to find two tracks -"Touch" and "Candle" -featured in Riding Giants, a surf documentary.I have since become a full fledged Vast fanatic and have bought both Naked as well as Visual Audio Sensory Theater CDs.Other reviewers have compared Vast to NIN but that merely demonstrates the utter cluelessness of the reviewer.Reznor couldn't ever hope to possess even one-tenth of the musical talents of Crosby in this life or any other for that matter. Vast is a hybrid between the vocals and dark poetry of Jim Morrison combined with the dark synth soul of Echo and the Bunnymen. This CD is the best music I have heard in a long time. The only other album I liked this much was Echo's "Heaven Up Here."Other fans of this genre might also enjoy hearing the music featured on the soundtracks to Step into Liquid and Riding Giants surf documentaries.

5-0 out of 5 stars Even better than the last...
Well, Filter did it this time. They were able to put out something that has much more of a variety among each track. "Short Bus" was good but this is just a lot better. It's filled with great tracks throughout the entire record. What I've noticed with some average albums is that when it isn't amazing it's usually due to not enough variety among tracks. "Title of Record" continues to have great tracks throughout the entire cd and not just one or two either. From the hard crunching sound of the opener "Welcome To The Fold" to the soft melodies of "Take My Picture" it's all good. There's just so much to enjoy with this release. My favorite tracks would probably be "Welcome To The Fold", "Skinny", "The Best Things" and "Take My Picture". Here's what I think of everything else... (excluding 1st track)
4-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't get enough...
At first I wasn't sure about listening to Filter until my bro got me into them and after that I loved it. I hate when an artist will put out a cd and all the songs sound alike and pretty soon you are really irritated and bored. But Filter uses alittle of everything in their music! I definately didn't get bored listening to it over and over again. BUT, I think that you should only listen to it if you are one of those people who like variety in their music and have an open mind. Filter probably won't be a smash hit with people who are only into one kind of sound.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Filter's well-balanced sophomore album
From the brief, ambient opening track "Sand", to the tenor goodbyes at the end of the closing track "Miss Blue", it's easy to see at all points in between that Title of Record was an open-minded step forward from the band's mostly angry debut four years earlier. This sophomore release presented an infectious blend of alt rock and raw energy, and yet it sounds the least industrial of Filter's two albums up to that point, save for a staticky burn-out which closes "The Best Things" on an awesome note. While this humorously titled release offers a hypnotically shiny platter of promising numbers, the real winner of radioplay on this disc turned out to be the lyrically sublime "Take a Picture", which hooked a plethora of new fans by way of a lazy tempo and a sudden confrontation toward the vocalist's father near the end. After an extended listen or two, Title of Record ends up being a must-have release for all who find themselves at home with intelligently written songs featuring just a hint of industrial aggression. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The logical successor to "Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me".
The album that thundered the Cure into the collective consciousness courtesy of pop charting single "Friday I'm in Love", "Wish" puts aside the brooding soundscapes of "Disintegration" to make a more logical successor to the diversity of "Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me".
3-0 out of 5 stars Don't believe the naysayers
While this album is derided by many "real" Cure fans as being too "commercial", the truth is this album still mixes in plenty of moody sulkers amidst the flashier radio-friendly fare.

Alright, I've heard alot of people say that they don't like this album, purely because of the song 'Friday I'm In Love'. Well, this is quite possibly one of my most favorite albums ever recorded. 5-0 out of 5 stars A great example of creative remixing.
Trent Reznor through Nine Inch Nails has developed a steady habit of remixing large volumes of his work and releasing countless Halos dedicated solely to these remixes. While this is certainly a boon for hungry collectors, fans interested in the music alone are often disappointed by the paltry turnout of a lot of these remix discs. Fortunately, Closer to God is a huge exception to the rule, displaying a powerful mastery of creative and thoughtful mixing practices.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ya gotta love the song, or else you'll hate this CD
I loved this CD, it has several different versions of "closer", often long ones.I love the different mixes and I rarely get bored by the variety of styles. There are a few other songs included.Sometimes the style of the other songs just does not match what mood the album is putting me in, and I get jarred out of my trance enough to go over and flip to the next song.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Somewhat Bland Release.
"Every Day Is Exactly The Same," a six-track EP for the release of the third single off "With Teeth," is perhaps one of Trent's least interesting releases. Combining a few new remixes with some you most likely already have, this is the perfect EP to irritate the hardcore Nine Inch Nails collector.
4-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good remix EP.
It might disappoint "halo collectors" when they get a hold of this, seeing as some remixes previously appeared on other singles. However, this is much cheaper and considering I wasn't big on "With Teeth", I'm surprised how much I enjoyed this.
1-0 out of 5 stars Trent Reznor needs drugs.
Seriously.Somebody force Trent Reznor to get back on cocaine as quickly as possible.Without his source of inspiration, his music will just get worse from here on, and his idea of purchase-worthy releases will continue to confound and anger his fans. He'll wind up like Pink Floyd after Roger Waters left, with only a mere shred of his former musical glory left. For the good of the world, give Trent Reznor drugs right now. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars definitely worth buying!
I have never been a heavy listener of industrial/gothic/electronica until I found Collide. "Crushed" was the first song I ever listened to and after that I was hooked. Despite other reviews that I have read about being repetetive or lacking in meaningful lyrics, I believe every song on Some Kind of Strange is unique and takes you on a trip you'll never want to come back from. I love every song, though I do have my favorites which include Crushed, Euphoria, Inside, Tempted, and Complicated. But I promise you, every song is worth a listen!
2-0 out of 5 stars Lacks depth
I'm a big fan of Collide's "Chasing the Ghost" album... I hear those songs in my dreams even, magical stuff.Based upon the other reviews I bought this album hoping to be similarly entranced.I was very disappointed. The songs lack the range and depth and passion of "Chasing the Ghost", perhaps the mixing could have been better, but they just don't grab me.I'm afraid that Collide may count as one of the many one-album-wonders of the music world.

1-0 out of 5 stars what a waste of money!
It's good to support the underground alternative bands and I bought this album based on many ads I saw in alternative music magazines. I have to say that a "sensual" voice is not enough to make great music. The singer tries to much to sound sensual sometimes its almost ridiculous but anyway, the big problem with this album are the compositions. There is no melody, all the album sounds very monotony, just a voice with no direction around very basic sounding guitars and drums. Overall there is a total lack of musicality. I wouldn't even use the album as background music, the music is very predictable, boring, unremarkable. What a waste really. It's funny, even in the underground scene a band can be over advertised. Caveat emptor. ... Read more

Guilty pleasure alert No. 2013: Filter absolutely, positively would not exist without the dirty, gritty musical formulas laid before him by Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor. The on-the-edge screams, the heavy industrial rhythms, the full-frontal guitar sounds--it's all been done before. And if that weren't enough, vocalist-guitarist-rhythmatist Richard Patrick lived a pre-Filter life as a touring band member in an early version of the aforementioned Nails. Indeed, Read more

      4-0 out of 5 stars Not Filter's best but it's a start.
Now to start off Filter is a really good band. I enjoy a lot of the music they put out. I just don't think this album is their best one. It does however have one of my most favorite songs they have ever done on it, "Hey Man Nice Shot". This isn't a bad cd but it isn't great either. What it comes down to is it has a bit of sameness about all the tracks. Not to say the tracks are bad they just don't grab your attention as much as the opener song did. My favorite tracks from the cd though would have to be "Hey Man Nice Shot", "Dose", "Under", and "Consider This". Here are my ratings for everything...
5-0 out of 5 stars Filter's gritty roots on full blast
This debut album from the musically explorative group Filter produced, among other things, the band's most successful and hardest hitting single to date. Many years after its release, the song "Hey Man Nice Shot" is still heard in light doses on the radio. However, to measure this album in proportion to its one big hit is to apathetically forsake the ten other tracks of cynical flare that can be heard when riding the Short Bus all the way to the end of its route."Dose", the less successful follow-up to the album's initial single, keeps the Short Bus horn blaring with venomous lyrics and crunching distortion. It paves the way for a rocky slide into the next three tracks of equally explosive power and confrontation.Soon after, the album temporarily saps its aggression for the reflective and almost acoustic "Stuck in Here", and then promptly picks back up its hatchet for the bitter second half of the disc.During the next few songs, the album's lyrics seem to grow progressively more bleak at each stop.Highlights in this territory include the analytical "Gerbil", the defensive "White Like That", and the emotionally gripping "So Cool", which closes the album on a beautifully nihilistic note.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best.
Yeah, this is my favorite record, not just from Filter, but favorite amoungst all.It has truly stood the test of time with me as well.I've listened to it since middleschool and its still amazing.Sincerly inspirational. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Andrew's Musical Breakthrough
Floodland is a very lovely album, period.I simply love it.Having said that, let me now state that at times it is bogged down by some very uninteresting moments."This Corrosion" is a grandios Operatic masterpiece that is truly awe-inspiring at certain points but also includes about 5 minutes of horrible dullness."1959" is a slow piano driven composition that thinks about being mournful before being in any interesting.Gone is the sort of immediacy of Edrich's previous work, First and Last and Always; Floodland is the sort of album that feels at times over-thought and over-produced.The term "Self indulgent" probably best sums up these flawed tracks. But (and it is a large BUT) the great songs are really, truly great."Flood I" and "Flood II" are both moody works that completely fit the Sister's sensibilities, and the terrific "Driven like the Snow" is the complete antithesis of "1959," a song that is mournful but in a very sweet emotionally honest way, and will be especially meaningful to those sad romantics who have felt and lost true love. Now, is this gothic?I have no idea.I love Bauhaus.I love Tears for Fears.Forget this whole Goth nonsense and simply revel in the beauty of the experimental era of underground 80's music.I, for one, love it and hope that a similiar era of experimentation returns at some point.

the pouring rain. the great rusty railroad investing the huge dark city with its looming machines, alive with a soul of their own, their silhouettes frightening. the sky rips in several places from which, the lightning seeps, outlining the graceful form of a woman. she stands on the highest of the city's towers.
5-0 out of 5 stars 20 years later this CD still Explodes !
Back when I was in college this CD played a big part in my underground/goth/alternative life and then over the years, I kind of strayed away from that scene, but I just pulled this CD out again to convert it to my new iPod and as it was playing back, I just realized how completely amazing it still sounds. This is one of the genre that hasn't lost any of it's power and certainly doesn't seem dated in any way. Starts out powerful and then just builds exponentially, so that by the time they hit Lucretia My Reflection, I dare anyone listening to remain sitting still. It's a real crossover from dark goth to almost a goth-electric or dark wave sound. Very upobeat, powerful and dare I say, even danceable.

5-0 out of 5 stars They should be huge.
As a music collector, i'm always pissed off when I hear some one who doesn't really listen to much music or look for new stuff complain "that they don't make good music anymore" or that "there's nothing interesting", or something along those lines. If your musical exposure is along the lines of whatever the radio or MTV,etc play i'm sure your view of music is that it is incredblely boring. However acts like the Birthday Massacre are direct evidence against the idea that music is going stale.I must admit I often do wonder myself why we can't have more interesting, young, creative, and very driven acts like this out today.
5-0 out of 5 stars Something Different
I really like artists that aren't worried about which category their CD will be placed under at the record store. My only disappointment is that there isn't more music like this.It is difficult to describe but the best I can do is female vocals, a bit of retro 80's synths, crossed with some industrial.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love at first listen.
First of all, a little history of how I discovered this group. My main musical background for the past couple of years has been mostly made up of hardcore/metalcore, bands such as As I Lay Dying, Hopesfall, The Bled, Norma Jean, etc and the whole warped tour scene, such as From Autumn To Ashes, My Chemical Romance and the likes.Anyone who listens to this genre knows that it has become completely saturated.I have discovered some fairly new bands that have impressed me however, such as Bleed The Sky, and Versus The Mirror, but for the most part, my favorites are the ones of old who seem to have left their legacy behind (such as Poison The Well). So, being one who always likes to discover new and great music, I began to try and think of other musical genres that I might like. One day, while I was listening to an old favorite of mine, Type O Negative's October Rust, I decided that I would like to look into more music that was similar to it, since no other cd I owned was comparable.Of course, I came on Amazon and began using the listmanias and so you'd like to.. lists which I find really handy in situations like this.Suddenly a whole new world of music was opened to me.

      5-0 out of 5 stars KICK A$$!!
Not many bands can bridge the gap between rock and electronic. And even fewer seem able to bridge the gap between rock and industrial. The two have faced off at each other for years. There are obvious comparisons to Nine Inch Nails. But Kidney Theives are not trying to be NIN.They have their own difinitive sound,Female vocals, and, in my opinion, a sharper, clearer image of whatever they are focused on.They paint a clearer picture of what they are singing about.I am shocked that this band is not getting more attention.

5-0 out of 5 stars These jerks need to release another album.
With all the noise pollution going on these days its nice to pop Zerospace in the old CD payer now and again just to remember how good music can be.Buy this now.No seriously, buy it.It's like NIN without the irritation factor.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great stuff - Not just gothy metal crap like Otep, etc.
Unlike a lot of modern music, the vocals on this aren't that terrible screaming/growling metal nonsense. This CD is the best elements of NIN, and Garbage (before they sucked) combined. As much as I like both these bands, I really think the kidney thieves excel both.If this CD was released in the mid-late 90s, it would have went platinum. Now, everyone listens to screamo, emo and Disney "actresses." ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Semantic Spaces an above-average CD
This CD is pretty good. It is definitely above average. I was not disappointed. For $13.98 it is an excellent value. However, the $2.98 for shipping was a little too high and it destroyed the original value that came with paying $13.98 for a CD. I would have liked to pay $2.00 or less for shipping. Other than that, the music is above average. I would have given my purchase 5 stars instead of 4 if it had not been for the expensive shipping costs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Aural bliss
This is a sine qua non for anyone's music collection. On comparisons to Enigma, I'd say Enigma are definitely the epigone in the standings.Newer Delerium is not as good since Rhys moved to a more commercial production style but this is splendid -their best release combining the sonic architecture of previous albums with the pleasant sensibilities of the newer albums.Semantic Spaces is one of the best produced sonic experiences I've found. It provides a complete healing journey into the multiverse and definitely tops Posford and others for psychedelic soundspaces. With a collection over 5000 CDs strong, this album easily makes it to a desert island 10-pack.

5-0 out of 5 stars Indulge in your 80s nostalgia
It's obvious from the long list of reviews that purists will quibble over which tracks from which artists represent their quintessential 80ness. But us ordinary folks, who just want a cross-section of the playlist from the alternate radio station we listened to in the 80s, won't care nearly as much. If you like a particular artist from this selection (and there are 82, so you probably do), you probably have several albums by that band or performer. I know I do.
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent listening for '80s music junkies
This is a very comprehensive collection of all the "unheard" classics of 80's alternative/underground music scene. I use "unheard" in quotes because many of the songs were heard on college radio, independent music stations, etc. I was surprised by the inclusion of a few songs ("Message of Love" by Pretenders and "Ways To Be Wicked" by Lone Justice) as I wasn't too sure how "underground" they really were. I'm sure some more mainstream stations played them. But anyway it was really good to hear the Lone Justice song again after so many years. And I was REALLY pleased with the inclusions of "Swamp Thing" by The Chameleons and "When Love Breaks Down" by Prefab Sprout.
5-0 out of 5 stars The music that really matters.
I bought this box set when it first came out and it still holds a prominent place on my shelf and on my iPod.Broad blanket statements are often useless, but in this case, they apply: This box is the best collection of 80s college rock/alternative rock for your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars The heaviest HuG effort
Hanzel und Gretyl is easily my favorite industrial/metal band. It has been two years since they unleashed "Scheissmessiah" upon the public. "Oktotenfest 2006" isn't a full length HuG cd but rather a tasty sample of what to expect next year when the band puts out a new album. Unfortunately the four track EP is only twelve minutes long. Too short for my personal taste but it sure beats waiting until 2007 to hear new HuG. Track #1 and #4 are more samples than songs themselves. Tracks #2 and #3 are absolutely mindblowing. "Stern Krieg" and "Fukken Uber Death Party" are the heaviest songs that Loopy and Vas Kallas has ever put out. The songs are simply brutally aggressive industrial/metal, almost death metal like especially on "Fukken Uber Death". The two songs are aggressive and melodic similiar to "SS Deathstar Supergalatick" and "Disko Fire Scheissmessiah". Awesome songs to listen to at top volume. I wish "Oktotenfest 2006" was a full length album but beggers can't be choosers. This is an excellent appetizer to whet my Hanzel und Gretyl fix. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars There was more to the 80's than U2...
As a longtime U2 fan, I believed that there was precious little else in the mid-80's. But this CD proved me wrong. While this is clearly an 80's production with all the sheen of the era, these songs are far stronger and diverse in scope. Not a bad song on the disc either. "She Sells Sanctuary" was the biggest hit (and still gets airplay!), but in reality most of the songs are even be
